the older I get, the more the technological changes I've lived through as a millennial feel bizarre to me. we had computers in my primary school classroom; I first learned to type on a typewriter. I had a cellphone as a teenager, but still needed a physical train timetable. my parents listened to LP records when I was growing up; meanwhile, my childhood cassette tape collection became a CD collection, until I started downloading mp3s on kazaa over our 56k modem internet connection to play in winamp on my desktop computer, and now my laptop doesn't even have a disc tray. I used to save my word documents on floppy discs. I grew up using the rotary phone at my grandparents' house and our wall-connected landline; my mother's first cellphone was so big, we called it The Brick. I once took my desktop computer - monitor, tower and all - on the train to attend a LAN party at a friend's house where we had to connect to the internet with physical cables to play together, and where one friend's massive CRT monitor wouldn't fit on any available table. as kids, we used to make concertina caterpillars in class with the punctured and perforated paper strips that were left over whenever anything was printed on the room's dot matrix printer, which was outdated by the time I was in high school. VHS tapes became DVDs, and you could still rent both at the local video store when I was first married, but those shops all died out within the next six years. my facebook account predates the iphone camera - I used to carry around a separate digital camera and manually upload photos to the computer in order to post them; there are rolls of undeveloped film from my childhood still in envelopes from the chemist's in my childhood photo albums. How You Find Their Birthdays:

Kira’s Journal: You snuck into Kira’s room and borrowed his neatly organized personal planner, which he kept for his old life. Naturally, this included his birthday.

“Kira, I know your birthday’s coming up! Do you like cake or pie better?”

“…How do you know that?”

Pucci’s Notes: You peeked in one of Pucci’s journals during one of his long monologues and found a note about his birthday in the margins. He now keeps all his writings locked up.

Dio’s Ranting: Dio casually mentioned his birthday during one of his speeches. Later you ask for the exact date. You immediately jotted it down.

Doppio/Diavolo’s Documents: You’d have to have hacked into Diavolo’s personal records because he would never divulge that information. Diavolo is still trying to figure out how you did it.

Wamuu: Gets a polished silver armband. He accepts it graciously and bows, earning him the title of your favorite.

The Aftermath: Most of the villains are deeply unnerved by your stalkerlike knowledge of their birthdays, but your gifts are always so perfectly tailored that they can’t bring themselves to refuse.

I 3D printed Isobel Thorm’s spear from Baldur’s Gate 3!

The spear head was printed on a Bambu Lab A1 with eSun PLA, STL by Ultima Props on Cults 3D.

The staff part is a pine dowel from Home Depot (it's a little warped unfortunately), and I "engraved" the designs using my rotary tool. The 3D printed pieces were connected with a 1/4" threaded rod which runs about a foot down into the wooden dowel, so it's fairly sturdy. Overall height is about 72"!

Out of curiosity, are you using a dremel to etch the glass?

No! No dremels!!!

... ok so anyways. The tool I use for etching glass, carving eggs, stone, whatever else I get my hands on, is a rotary drill. It is not, however, a dremel.

Basically dremels (dremels are a brand of drills/tools btw for anyone who didn't know) are not small enough, with small enough bits, or fast enough rotation, to be delicate enough for all the stuff I do. Glass especially- the rotations and vibrations can easily be too much if I go too deep. Overall to etch glass and eggs like I do I need... a dental drill!!

Uhh so yeah, I can and absolutely will not cut your teeth out. The rotary drill I use looks like this:

It can go to 50,000 rotations per minute (really fast!) and has a pencil handpiece. This isn't exactly a drill you will see in a dental practice, but it is a dental drill. Me and my dentist have regular arguments about who's drill is better (mine goes faster but his has more power behind it lmao)

I had to save up for a bit when I was younger to get this drill, and it's about as cheap as it'll get. The thing is for glass etching/engraving, egg carving, stone carving, etc, is that there isn't enough demand with the small amount of artists to justify anyone making drills specifically for it. So artists like me who want to make stuff in that area literally have to buy dental office drills, which, while hilarious, is really expensive.

Sorry if I've rambled too long- I'm proud of my drill <33 if anyone has questions about my uhh throwing whatever together art process, feel free to ask, I know yall are curious bc it's not exactly common.
