kale/rosie "i can't believe you talked me into this"
[ f l a s h b a c k ]
Kale laughed, "And yet, here we are. What was it, little Rosie, that finally persuaded you?"
Rosie raised an eyebrow. "You will get no such answer from me, Kale Brennan. I might have fallen victim to your convincing arguments, but I will not be helping you corrupt my sisters and friends in the same manner in future."
"You make it sound as though I've asked you to be an accomplice -- "
Rosie raised an eyebrow. "Did you not?"
" -- in something illegal."
"Just because it is legal, doesn't mean it is right. I don't think father would like it ... "
"No, but it will be quite funny."
Rosie couldn't help but smile, "I suppose it will be funny." A pause. "But Kale ... Cassimir is our brother now. Perhaps we ought to try to be a little nicer to him, then maybe he might be nicer to us."
"Perhaps to you and your sisters but ... not to us," The light in Kale's eyes darkened at the thought of what he was to say next. He had decided to spare Rose the details of what had prompted this latest attack against Cassimir, but the words tumbled out, just the same. "Yesterday he had little Charlie Reaves whipped just because he forgot to relay the message that he wanted his horse ready to ride in the afternoon."
"Why did you not say so at the first? I would have eagerly agreed to help you if I had known that. The punishment does not fit the crime. In fact, I think that now he is getting off rather easy, considering." She put her hands on her hips, "Really, Kale, is stealing his clothes and replacing them with Lord Cormac's really the best you can do?"
Kale laughed, the lightness in his eyes returning, "I think I've becoming a rather bad influence on you, Lady Roisin. For I can think of no worse punishment than having to prance around dressed in the ridiculous things that Cormac Calleary chooses to wear."

percy & rose: its not what it looks like!
~ Flashback ~
“Thank the gods,” Percy said dryly, raising an eyebrows. “Because it looks like you’ve just stolen the housekeys from your poor housekeeper.”
Rosie held the ring of keys behind her back, not quite as inconspicuously as she had thought. “Well.” A beat. “Perhaps it might be exactly what it looks like, but I can explain! It isn’t really stealing. It is my house.”
Percy raised his eyebrow, “Cillian’s idea?”
“Brigit’s.” Rosie replied, abruptly. Percy raised a suspicious eyebrow. “… and Cillian’s may have contributed.”
“Whatever this is, they shouldn’t have gotten you involved.” He crossed his arms, annoyed that Cillian and Brigit had roped her into it.
“Percy,” Rosie began, quite seriously, “I am eleven. Quite old enough to make my own decisions and deal with the consequences. And just now, I’ve already accepted the punishment that will likely come with it.”
“What, exactly, are you planning to do now that you’ve gotten the keys?”
“Sneak into Valentina’s room.”
“To what purpose?”
“She has our mother’s necklace. It was her favorite necklaces. And it shouldn’t be her’s at all. It should be Eithne’s. Valentina swears she doesn’t have it, but we all know she does. Father says we must trust her word but —- oh, Percy! She’s trying to wipe out any signs there ever were of mother and we won’t stand for it. She has the necklace and she has hidden it somewhere in her room, I know it.”
“They sent you alone to do all of this?”
“I volunteered! I’m the smallest and can hide in all sorts of places they can’t.” She informed him, proudly.
Percy sighed, “They are going to be the death of me.” He said under his breath as he came to the realization that not only was he not stopping this madness, he was now involved.
“If you are going to do this, then I’d better be your lookout.”

ooc | Aine & Rosie
Aine honestly adores all of the Malconaire girls <33 Also, Rosie was only 10 years old when Aine married her cousin and I feel like she was probably the Astairan equivalent of the flower girl in their wedding <3 (also it probably blows aine's mind every time she realizes how old rosie is now no lie she'll always be like 11 years old in her mind)
she's def lowkey pleased that Clea is demonstrating some Rosie traits and I feel like Clea idolizes her almost as much as she idolizes Fiona!

When Malconaire called, Percy answered.
He may have left many years ago, but Malconaire was his home and if they had called upon him to help rebuild the entire estate -- brick by brick -- he would have done so. And done so eagerly.
Especially now. He knew that the Malconaire girls did everything they could to continue in their father's footsteps, but they were fighting an uphill battle with Valentina at the helm. His former mistress cared only for herself and her children. The people she governed meant little to her beyond what she could gain from them. And it saddened Percy to see the changes that her spending and carelessness had wrought upon the place.
He had not thought twice when he heard that the barn needed repairing.
"It was a good day," Percy agreed. It felt like the old days, when they were younger and more carefree. It had made him miss his own brothers, though, who would have been working right along side him if they hadn't ....
... and the presence of Lord Malconaire and Ronan and Kale was missed, too. Still, there was something renewing in working side-by-side again with the people he'd had grown up around.
"I noticed Valentina didn't bother to show her face," He couldn't help but take a jab at her, "Nor did her son, except to pretend to supervise." Percy rolled his eyes. They hadn't needed his help, anyway.
He cocked his head and managed a grin, "Perhaps that was one of the reason it was such a good day, eh?"
Percy took on a more serious tone when she mentioned the Queen. He was afraid, for a moment, that she was going to ask him questions about the riots. As he had been near the palace gates at the time, he had been everyone's man to ask but the truth was, he did not like to relive those moments more than he had to -- and he certainly had no intention of sharing that information with Rosie, who he still felt was too young to even know about such things.
But she'd asked about the Queen and while that was an easier question to answer, Percy didn't particularly want to discuss that, either. She had been through a lot and Percy suspected that she suffered much more than she ever let on.
"She is as well as can be expected," He finally managed, "But she is strong, Rosie. Very strong. And if anyone can withstand it all, she can." He did not know what was in store for her -- the emperor could easily blame her for the revolts and after declaring her a bastard, did he still have plans to marry her? As abhorrent as that prospect was, Percy did not like to consider the alternative. What use would he have for her then, if he did not mean to make her one of his queens?
Percy couldn't help but smile as Rosie took it upon herself to thank him as though she was the Queen, herself. "Nicely done," He said, clapping his hands, "I feel as though she were standing before me."
He did not think that the Queen gathered much strength at all, if any, from him, but he did hope that, at least, he was able to reassure her that Astaira was still behind her, even if he could not voice it as explicitly as he would like. However, he had no intention of shattering any illusions Rosie had of the Staffords finding comfort where they could, and so he did not say as much.
"I think you could have been very successful with playacting, you know, if you had not been born a lady," He winked at her and, although he gave her a laugh, he found that he meant it. Her imagination and empathy, both, would be handy tools for such an occupation.
Snow Falls | Rosie & Percy
With the heavy snows falling so suddenly, the House of Malconaire had not gone without its share of troubles. As the snow turned to ice, one of the heavy beams of the great barn had finally cracked and collapsed. While the others remained, holding the structure aloft, it was a precarious situation, though one that oridinarily would have been easily put to rights with the correct number of hands. However, with the Valentina-imposed shortage of servants, it proved an impossible task with only those on hand, though necessary with the bulk of the storage of food for the winter and a number of the Malconaire farm animals, alike, housed within.
As a result, a number of friends and locals had been called in specially to help (with even Valentina allowing that -- as she did not wish to go without food this winter -- perhaps this was, indeed, a worthy investment and worth some of her precious coin!). Rosie's heart swelled, watching Malconaire once again set to life with all its old familiar souls buzzing busily about the estate to help however they could even in the cold weather. Somehow, however, Rosie did not seem to feel the cold, however much her breath clouded before her, surrounded by all her old friends once again.
For her part, no matter how heavy the lumber they heaved or how high to ladder they climbed, the conversation never abated as she asked after that cousin and that aunt. It wasn't that Rosie no longer saw these people -- she was always sure to visit with baskets whenever she could -- but to see them here again put her in mind of all the festivals her parents used to bservere here with them, causing the event to take on what was, to her, a sort of party atmosphere.
With the barn fully raised again, however, and the day dwindling to evening, the villagers began saying their goodbyes and slowly peeling off back home and, with their departure, Rosie once again felt the cold.
Spotting Percy by one of the hedgerows, Rosie hurried off towards her, leaning back against the fence behind him. "I don't think the barn has ever been steadier, with such good hands reaching out to support it," she chirped. "I'd be shocked if anything else so much as budges it, come the winter!"
Of course, Malconaire sported a large number of barns, with this being only the largest (and most important) of them, so other collapses were possible -- perhaps even inevitable if the winter were terrible -- but Rosie meant what she said. Granted, she was far from a barn or architecture expert, but she did not believe the great barn was in any danger, whatever, after the help it had received today.
"Today was a good day, wasn't it?"
Rosie was a proud young woman, to be true, and did not much like serving her stepmother, but spending useful time doing something jointly with people she cared about -- that was something she did like. After all, this food would benefit the whole Malconaire community, not merely the noble family. It was a good thing they had done today, Rosie thought, done with good people, and that -- to her -- was enough to make it a good day.
"May I ask you something, Percy? Is this...Is this how you feel everyday, working at the palace, making life better for the Queen?"
She frowned. For a moment...for a moment she had forgotten. Forgotten about Roderick. Forgotten about Valentina. Forgotten...all the bad. For a moment, she'd been her father's daughter again, and not merely her stepmother's stepdaughter...or servant.
"I mean..." she shrugged, tried to brush it off. "It was how I felt when I served her...however briefly," she chuckled. "And however relatively useless. I swear, I only figured out half of what I was doing about a fortnight before I returned home."
She was exaggerating, of course, hoping to win a laugh from her often serious friend, but it wasn't that far off the mark. Her service had been brief, indeed, compared to what she'd expected. Her mother, after all, had served Eilia's mother for years before she'd at last gone to Malconaire to wed its lord.
"How..." Rosie sighed, glanced to the ground. "How are they? I'm sure things haven't been easy since..." Since the conquest? Since they'd been declared bastards? Since the riot? Rosie hardly even knew which calamity she meant. She'd hardly seen them since it had all began and she'd been sent to Malconaire with Eithne's plans in a last ditch efforto to help before the battle overtook her home, once and for all.
She turned to Percy, then, her eyes shining and confident. "I know their troubles are great, but...I know, too, however great they may be, your loyalty and bravery in the face of everything helps them to bear it. I also know they're not in a position to thank you so, as one who once served the Queen...Let me do the honors and give you a last message in her name."
Straightening from where she leaned, she smiled and looked him in the eye and said, just as she had been accustomed to doing when she was lady-in-waiting to many a court official. She took his hand. "Her Grace the Queen of All Astaira bids me bear you all her thanksgiving and gratitude in this trying time. May the guardians bless you, Percival Reaves."
Squeezing his hand, she released him and smiled softly. "Did I do her justice?"

OOC | Astairan Wedding Traditions
ok so this is inspired by [ this ] post and these tags:
#ooo.... is handfasting a tradition in astairan weddings?#bc i could see#valentina malconaire objecting to this!#and then astairans not considering the eithne/cassimir union#as valid since it didn't happen#also its just a pretty tradition i love!
i loooove this!!!! both for the tradition and for the ~general vibes for astaira andddd for the plot point it could play!!!!! and i thought we might take this opportunity to talk about weddings in general -- i was literally reading up on traditional irish wedding vows just last night bc we were talking about domhnall's wedding etc!
i can also 100% see @forgottenvalentina specifically objecting to a tradition the astairans hold dear on ~roderick grounds or vice versa specificially w the hope itd invalidate the wedding too smdh so this verrrrrry much fits!
also the wedding vows:
[ “Ye are Blood of my Blood, and Bone of my Bone. I give ye my Body, that we Two might be One. I give ye my Spirit, `til our Life shall be Done. You cannot possess me for I belong to myself. But while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give You cannot command me, for I am a free person. But I shall serve you in those ways you require and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand." ] “I vow you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine, from this day it shall only your name I cry out in the night and into your eyes that I smile each morning; I shall be a shield for your back as you are for mine, never shall a grievous word be spoken about us, for our marriage is sacred between us and no stranger shall hear my grievance. Above and beyond this, I will cherish and honor you through this life and into the next." “I, (name), in the name of the spirit of God that resides within us all, by the life that courses within my blood and the love that resides within my heart, take thee (name) to my hand, my heart, and my spirit, to be my chosen one. To desire thee and be desired by thee, to possess thee, and be possessed by thee, without sin or shame, for naught can exist in the purity of my love for thee. I promise to love thee wholly and completely without restraint, in sickness and in health, in plenty and in poverty, in life and beyond, where we shall meet, remember, and love again. I shall not seek to change thee in any way. I shall respect thee, thy beliefs, thy people, and thy ways as I respect myself. By the power that Christ brought from heaven, mayst thou love me. As the sun follows its course, mayst thou follow me. As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart, May thy presence be with me, Oh one that I love, `til death comes to part us asunder. “We swear by peace and love to stand, Heart to heart and hand to hand. Mark, O Spirit, and hear us now, Confirming this our Sacred Vow.” “You are the star of each night, You are the brightness of every morning, You are the story of each guest, You are the report of every land. No evil shall befall you, on hill nor bank, In field or valley, on mountain or in glen. Neither above, nor below, neither in sea, Nor on shore, in skies above, Nor in the depths. You are the kernel of my heart, You are the face of my sun, You are the harp of my music, You are the crown of my company.” “Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and just be my friend.” “May the gentle breeze bear witness to this ritual, and carry its message to all lands. May the sun warm their hearts, and its ever burning fire fuel their desire for each other. May the water provide for them from its bounty, and comfort their souls with their sounds. May the land lend its strength and reveal its mysteries."
and like literally swearing by the breeze and the sun and water and land like????? if that aint so astairan!!!!!! there's def tons of other stuff but yeah
also apparently irish brides traditionally wore blue, back in the day, that were long and flowy w intricate embroidery, celtic knots, and a big sash or belt! often including a hooded cloak in weather!
she also traditionally has a handkerchief embroidered w like a motto or the couple's initials or an emblem or smth of significance to them, and then that's used as the bonnet for the firstborn child at their christening, and handed down to them to potentially use at their own wedding etc generation after generation
also the handfasting probs means that 'tying the knot' is an expression in astaira (that would baffle the varmonts too btw!) which is fun <3
[ Ever heard the phrase “your goose is cooked”? ] Traditionally, the night before the wedding, a goose would be cooked in the bride’s house for the groom’s wedding meal. When the meal was fully prepared, it would be seen as bad luck for life to back out of the wedding. So, the phrase, “your goose is cooked” pretty much means there’s no backing out now!
there's this thing w the child of progue that might be done w statues of the guardians?
[ This is a funny Irish wedding tradition. The child of Prague is a statue popularly known to ward off bad weather, which can rue the day. The figure is placed in different ways but performs the same function. ] Some parents leave their children in their hallway the night before a wedding. Others abandon their children outside, while some put the child out under a bush. In addition, people tend to behead the statue before placing it at the selected spot. The rationale is that the figures are not of the best quality. Their head usually fell off by themselves when left out overnight; hence, it was better off already beheaded. Some people even reattach it afterward.
guests have bells to ring ward off evil spirits and discord! they set to ringing them as the couple walks down the aisle and bells are sometimes included in the bride's bouquet
Weddings were civil, not religious, affairs. While some involved a vow of lifelong fidelity, that wasn’t universal. The ancient Celts recognized several types of marriage. And they also had very liberal divorce laws. They knew not all marriages would last, and they planned for it. In ancient Celtic traditions, one could opt for a one-year trial marriage. If all went well, they could take more permanent vows. If it didn’t work out, they each went their way, free to try again. Men and women enjoyed equal rights in the 1100s. Irish brides owned their property; if the marriage ended, they took it with them. They would also take a portion of any wealth the couple acquired together.
so yeah obv there's lots more these were just some things that jumped out at me after a cursory review that felt astairan for one reason or another <3
#lore#cassimir malconaire#eithne malconaire#awww look they already have the same last name ;DDD lkajdsfkljd#valentina malconaire#eabha calleary#cormac calleary#aine lorcan#finn calleary#fiona calleary#kale brennan#ronan frost#saoirse frost#cillian frost#brigit malconaire#aoife malconaire#roisin malconaire#sorcha malconaire#macdara malconaire#domhnall stafford#percy reaves#about#aria stafford#siobhan stafford#also you know rosie has gushed abt all of these to cassandra <3#ooc

ooc | Cassimir & Cormac
I'm sorry I know you haven't even made his site yet, so this is premature, but I went on a walk today and I just thought about this relationship????
So, first, I feel like Cassimir did NOT like Cormac at all when he first met him! I imagine they met pretty soon after Cassimir came to Malconaire and he was like "who is this loser??? and why won't he leave me alone????" Honestly, he probably was kinda mean to him atp but I can also see where the sarcasm might have just gone over Cormac's head #facepalm
I do think he treated him better as they got older and Cassimir started being a tad bit more empathetic and while he might have been friendly at times, I don't think you could have considered them friends (even if Cormac did lmao) -- that being said, I feel like Cassimir was still frequently pretty annoyed with Cormac, but even then he did like the attention/compliments that Cormac would pay him!!
I think they've become more of a duo though, since the war?? Both because I think Cassimir feels a little isolated and lonely since the events of the battle and part of him wonders if that is justified, but keeping people like Cormac around makes him not think about any of that!!!!! I feel like Cormac is just Cassimir's personal hype man and between him and Valentina, Cassimir is really out here thinking he can do no wrong sometimes ;D
I'm crying because Cassimir does NOT consider him and Cormac to be friends, but in reality Cormac probably ~is his best friend. #facepalm [ Honestly, I imagine that there are some Gaston/Lefou parallels here lmao ]
But Cassimir definitely takes advantage of Cormac!!! He's come to realize that Cormac will do pretty much anything he says and he knows it?? And I feel like Cormac is half his friend/half his servant (even though he's a legit lord in his own right alsjflasjfldsfj -- although that being said, I'm sure he knows that Cassimir has ~royal~ blood)
I think Cassimir is also pleased that a) Cormac is currently residing at Lorcan b/c Cassimir thinks that that should pass to him and not Rian since he is a step-cousin to Padraig Lorcan and he definitely wants any and all dirt he can get on Rian and b) that Cormac is now going to have an estate of his own to manage, which I feel like Cassimir pretty much feels will be his own to control?!??! Like, he can tell Cormac to do whatever he wants him to do and he will do it!
I also think he sees Cormac as a potential husband for either Rosie or Brigit tbh??? I imagine that the northern estate he has been gifted is further away than Lorcan/Hanthom/Malconaire/the capital all are in relation to each other (which reminds me that I should construct a map soon!!) and that it is farther away that they wouldn't be a ~constant problem to him. I think he'd prefer Brigit, because he imagines that she would run away as soon as they are married, but that the harsh winters up there would (~conveniently) kill her but he knows he has talked a lot of shit about Brigit over the years and its a hard one to try to turn that around and start saying good things about her to get Cormac on board??? So he does think that Rosie will be the easier sell

cillian/brigit kid
Name: Caoimhe Frost
Gender: Female
General Appearance: Golden curls; chocolate eyes; tall and slender
Personality: Kind, quiet, and curious! She is also rather cautious and whenever she sees her parents try to "out dare" the other, SHE'S the one who is telling them that it might not be a good idea! Can definitely be a people pleaser after seeing her parents be soooo headstrong/stubborn! Caoimhe is definitely also very likely to give in to other's desires/go with the flow -- just to avoid the hassle sticking one's heels in can be! Plus, she truly does want everyone around her to be happy and that makes her happy. While this sometimes makes her rather susceptible to the influences and manipulations of others, Caoimhe will always stand up for the people she loves (even if she is less likely to stand up for herself) Inherited her parent's sense of adventure, but tends to like to explore the world through books and visiting cities and museums and gardens than the more wild and reckless adventures her parents would get up to.
Special Talents: Singing, dancing, and a general love of things that grow!! She loves spending her days walking about Malconaire and tends both a flower garden and a little kitchen garden. She has also planted a bunch of flowers at Malconaire in honor of her grandmother <3
Who they like better: It's a tie!
Who they take after more: Aunt Aoife, honestly!
Personal Head canon: Aunt Rosie taught her how to make flower crowns when she was six and she was obsessed!! Likes going to visit her Aunt Aoife and Uncle Sebastian where it is quieter ;D Named for her grandmother who was a mother figure to both of her parents <3 A seer like her mom (or possibly just a half-seer like her aunt) A romantic --- but also is a firm believer that you should marry your best friend, like her parents did, and is determined to be great friends with her future husband. She also loves hearing stories about her parents from when they were younger! Cillian loves to point out how he was the first one to realize that they were in love with each other and should be together, and that Brigit was just too stubborn to admit that he was right! ;D Was gifted a kitten by her Uncle Ronan when she was seven and they went everywhere together!! Loves animals in general, honestly, and while she's never been a great rider, does like helping her mom with their horses and bringing them apples and sugar cubes. Has always been something of a disastrous cook but she can bake lemon cakes and brew an exceptional pot of tea, thanks to lessons from her Aunt Eithne.
Face Claim: Lily James

The lily has a smooth stalk Will never hurt your hand But the rose upon her briar Is lady of the land
When with moss and honey She tips her bending briar And half unfolds her glowing heart
There's sweetness in an apple tree And profit in the corn But lady of all beauty Is a rose upon a thorn
When with moss and honey She tips her bending briar And half unfolds her glowing heart She sets the world on fire
When with moss and honey She tips her bending briar And half unfolds her glowing heart She sets the world on fire

SAOIRSE FROST / FLORENCE PUGH
♛ Age: 24 ♛ Relationships: Ronan Frost, Cillian Frost (brothers), Kale Brennan Percy Reaves, Ciara Varmont, Fiona Calleary, Isolda Vane (fellow resistance members/friends), Finn Calleary (interest/fellow resistance member/friend), Aoife Malconaire (best friend), Eithne Malconaire, Brigit Malconaire, Rosie Malconaire (friends), Aine Lorcan (mistress)
if saoirse's brothers had any say in the matter, saoirse would have never even found out about the resistance -- let alone be a part of it
but saoirse could tell that her brothers were both up to something and she wasn't about to let them do anything this stupid unless she was a part of it, too
they are, at least, grateful that saoirse's job keeps her busy enough
saoirse has been working for lady lorcan, mainly as a nursemaid to her two young children
saoirse adores them as though they were her own
loves storytelling and often entertains them with fairytales and stories of her own making to help distract them from the fact that their father is v likely dead since no one has heard from lord lorcan since the war
ends up re-telling a lot of the same stories to the resistance by night to keep spirits up!
saoirse may be the youngest frost, but sometimes she's the most mature!
certainly spoiled by both of her brothers, but they can both be wild and impulsive and have quite the knack for getting themselves into trouble
ronan is a wanted man and saoirse is sure that cillian will join him on that list one day
knows they can both be idiots but loves them more than anything in the world!
didn't initially trust ciara varmont, but has warmed up to her
ronan seems more like himself when she's around and honestly it has made her blind to any suspicions she might otherwise have
saoirse can't see the guardians but sometimes she swears can feel their presence!!!
isn't sure if this is just her imagination or not, she's never even heard them, but she is always the one to make sure that they are still left offerings both at her own home and the resistance hideout

isolda thinks that kale sitting next to cillian is bad, but that's because she's never experienced the full chaos that rosie x cillian x kale x brigit could unleash together. (@ cassimir & valentina: sorry not sorry they were probably the target of 99.99% of whatever plots/schemes/pranks the four of them thought up together)
kale thinks that rosie is an absolute GEM and he's here to always encourage her rebellious/mischievous side

Percy loves Rosie lots!!! He enjoys her adventurous spirit, her charm, her sense of humor!! all a+++ but tbh he def worries a LOT about her!!!! Friends with Cassandra??? And Edmund????? He's v protective of the Malconaire girls, but especially Rosie and Aoife tbh and he's not going to let anything bad happen to them!!

ooc | Cassandra & Eithne
Cassandra is really good friends with Rosie and she honestly just adores her and tbh probably the entire Malconaire family (except for perhaps Brigit who does nOT like or trust Cassandra but Cass may or may not have picked up on this, depending on how much Brigit has been able to control herself when Cassandra is around)
ANYWAY! Cassandra thinks that they are all wonderful and loves to spend time there and she has decided that Eithne and Arthur are pERFECT for each other!! And Cassandra sorta lives within her own little world and tbh she'd love to see the fairytales and happy endings she loves so much play out in real life. And tbh she thinks Eithne's situation is tragically wonderful -- having lost her parents and living with a horrible stepmother and then Cassimir is also in love with her and honestly Cassandra is just waiting for the day that Arthur has to come and rescue Eithne and fight off her evil step-brother and then he will take her away and marry her and they will live happily ever after!! And then the Malconaires will also be family and this is Cass's plan to make everyone happy!
She's definitely not told Eithne any of this, but she certainly talks up Arthur whenever she can ;D
(Also I'm not sure that she knows that Eithne has been reduced to a servant in her own home, on top of everything else, since I know Rosie has been keeping that fact from Edmund , so maybe Cass doesn't know either but if she did, that would just add to the drama)

brigit & rosie: "if you die, im going to kill you"
"I'm not going to die."
Despite her precarious position, Brigit was confident. Eleven-year-old Rosie was somewhat less convinced. This was hardly the first time that Brigit had climbed up and down from her bedroom window, making use of the combination of vines, stones, and tree branches that lined their home, but it was the first time she was attempting a lateral move. Her destination? Cassimir's locked room that was on the far side of the family's wing.
"Hmm, maybe not from the fall, but Cassimir will kill you when he finds out! He will know it was you."
Brigit laughed, "Maybe, but he can't admit to it. His ridiculously huge ego won't allow it. If he does, he will have to admit that he cannot climb these walls, but a fifteen-year-old girl can."
In fact, his failed attempts to climb up the side of the house had been the reason Brigit was attempting this, at all. That and the glaring fact that Brigit was not especially appreciative of the attentions Cassimir had been showing her sister ever since she turned seventeen. She wanted it to stop and she was planning on making Cassimir's life hell until it did.
Two days ago, Rosie's kite had slipped through her fingers and managed to get stuck high up in the branches of one of the trees. Cassimir, it seemed, had been desperate to show off in front of Eithne and made a big show about how he was to get it down. Since the branches of the tree started too high up -- even for Cassimir -- he was tried to start his ascent by climbing up the side of the house first, but he never made it. Brigit wished she'd been there to see it (and show him up), but she felt that -- ultimately -- she preferred this form of revenge better.
She was lost in her own thoughts when she nearly lost her footing and slipped half a foot down the wall.
"Brige!" Rosie cried, covering her face with her small hands. "Be careful!"
"I am careful. You are distracting me."
Rosie silently watched Brigit go the rest of the way, peering through her fingers at her sister - almost afraid to watch.
Brigit snuck into Cassimir's room from his balcony. She hadn't been into this room since his father had remarried and these guest rooms had been given to her step-siblings. Cassimir kept it locked at all times -- only unlocking the great wooden doors for the servants or occasionally his mother.
Brigit half excepted to have walked into a den of secrets, but she was surprised to find that his room was rather unremarkable -- rather like Cassimir, himself. She smiled to herself: It wouldn't be that way for long.
The floorboard underneath the window was loose and had been for years. The girls used to keep some small, secret treasures there before this room was Cassimir's, but now Brigit had a more sinister purpose in mind for it. She pulled from her pocket a small trout that Cillian had caught that morning and slipped it inside. It would not take long for the entire room to smell terribly -- and she doubted Cassimir would any idea as to where it was coming from.
She hope it drove him mad.

Lord Malconaire, his second wife, step-children, and Eithne had all been invited to a neighboring lord's for supper and, when they returned, Eithne found Brigit and Rosie still awake in Rosie's bedroom, giggling under the covers.
"Hmm, what are you girls up to?" She asked.
"Nothing!" Rosie replied through a fit of giggles.
"Nothing? What on earth has you laughing so?"
Brigit exchanged glances with Rosie, "Fish!"

LADY BRIGIT MALCONAIRE / IMOGEN POOTS
♛ Age: (25) ♛ Relationships: Eithne Malconaire, Aoife Malconaire, Roisin Malconaire (sisters), Valentina Malconaire (step-mother), Cassimir Malconaire (step-brother), Sonya Malconaire (step-sister), Percy Reaves (friend), Cillian Frost (best friend)
a mess™
if you can't find brigit, she's probably outside
her hobbies include archery, horseback riding, storytelling, tormenting her step-family, and protecting her own
has never been any good at being an lady tbh! polite small talk? embroidery? music? showing up to events in a gown that doesn't have a rip or a stain somewhere? these are all absolutely foreign to brigit
never liked attending balls, but makes a point to always go now b/c she knows she's an embarrassment to her stepmother and the more often she is seen in public, the less likely her stepmother will find anyone to marry her off to
never been any good with a sword, but is getting cillian to teach her b/c someone in this family is going to have to challenge cassimir to a duel if he keeps harassing eithne
all brigit wants is for her step family to leave them all alone and things to go back to the way they were!! is determined to ~save the family~ before eithne or rosie decide to marry someone rich
just wants the four of them to be together forever <3
brigit has taken to looking after the horses and maintaining the stables since her stepmother took charge -- something which suites both of them well because it keeps them out of each other's way and brigit knows that the horses are being treated well
recently a stray white mare wandered onto their property without any trace of where he had come from
cassimir tried to tame him, but would have nothing to do with him
it is amongst brigit's proudest moments that she was then able to tame the horse who now lets no one else hear him
what's strange about him, is that brigit can understand him and he seems to understand her (she feels as though she might be crazy, but what she doesn't know, is that this is no ordinary horse -- he is the first being to have crossed over from the other realm and he belongs to a god)
brigit hasn't told anyone about this -- not even her sisters -- as this is not the first time something strange has happened to her
what brigit doesn't realize, is that she has the second sight. when she and her sisters were young, they used to pretend that they could see the guardians of their own home and used to talk to them, but it wasn't until brigit was older that she realized that she was the only one who could actually see them ...
