Some moments in season 3 of Young Royals that stand out for me ep.2

I have some free time now, and there is ALWAYS a good time for rewatch of Young Royals, so here we go episode 2. I'm sharing outstanding moments from season 3, that made me gasped, yelped or laughed. This show is so dear to me. Hope you'll enjoy :) Have a nice Sunday :3

The beggining!

At first I cringed a little bc I thought Wille's talking to the picture, but then we hear Simon's voice and my heart melted. Also, this whole scene made me balance on the edge of cringe bc I was with my friends while watching, but... well... Wilmon is just too lovely and soft for that, so yeah more melting body and heart from this scene.

2. I will repeat - The Music

Always the music <3 It just flushes into my soul and meander there with whole show emotion package. Ugh! I love it.

3. The casual pretty packed racism Felice is facing from the headmistress of the school...

It was the same kind of discrimination words as Kristina said to Wille in season 2 about him being the first one who decided to start unconventional relationship. It is said smooth and soft and It's even more disguising bc of that.

So I just screamed when I saw Felice's reaction. Go girl! They won't fvck with you! It was also very thoughful way of relieving the emotions by creators. I like that.

4. Them

5. New choir member

I'm still kicking my feet while watching this.

And then...

Wille is so gone for Simon. My teeth are gonna decay because of the amount of the sugar this season. And it hits even more bc of how much they suffered in previous seasons.

6. The moment I realised

that when August and Nils were 1rst years in Hillerska, Erik was a third year student. I gasped.

7. The fight

Up until this moment the series is just walking around talking about how jokes are used as excuses of violence, yet here we go again. I burst out laughting.

And then the knowing Erik thing.

It's just so satisfying how August repeats the sentence without any shame. It felt good. In time, extremely quick answer. Ohh, I LOVE THIS SERIES.

8. Simon being done with looking after Sara

and being honest about it with his mom. I think this season Linda hears lots of uncomfortable words from Simon, but he needs to let it out and she need to hear it so it felt good also how is he saying that. We can hear how tired and pissed he is. I'm proud.

9. More speaking up about what we could witness in previous seasons

I just screamed "THANK YOU!"

10. Small moment for nonbinary people.

I felt seen. <3

I know that the show is not about that, but just this small moment of acknowledgement for us - pure bliss <3

11. Feliece the biggest support for the gays

Idk I was just happy with this, probably bc of all the stories in fanfiction hahaha. My favourite combination :3

12. And the Rosh and Ayub!

Like - them all in one place finally! My heart, the joy, I can't, I loved it.

13. And the Roshella - Noone expeted it, yet everyone needed. My computer can't handle it so no screeshot from this scene. But I love the way the showed it, the close ups, and the Fredrikas face. Chefs kiss :D

And then I was getting more and more angry. So, I'm ending this post here.

Slates of Standard Pairings

Does your fandom have a Slate of Standard Pairings?

Maybe there’s a better term for this that TVTropes came up with years ago. But this is what I call it in my head.

A Slate of Standard Pairings is a phenomenon where if you have a fic with multiple pairings and almost every character being paired off, it will most likely include the pairings on the slate. This doesn’t mean the fandom only ships those pairings. It just means that those pairings have gained enough momentum, and enough momentum in proximity to one another that they sort of… show up together quite frequently.

For instance, I would argue that the Slate of Standard Pairings for Young Royals fandom is as follows:

Simon/Wilhelm, Sara/Felice, Maddie/Rosh, Stella/Fredrika, Walter/Henry, Nils/Vincent

If you are a boy in Young Royals and your name starts with the letter A, you are SOL for romantic relationships according to the Slate of Standard Pairings.

(Back when I was more active in Les Mis fandom, there were I believe two competing slates of Les Amis pairings, both of them headlined by Enjolras/Grantaire. Is that still the case, or have things shifted?)

For the most part, Slates aren’t intentionally created, but they do sort of drift together by probability. The thing about the Slate of Standard Pairings is that it can sometimes feel like a fandom rule, in an unconscious way where its structure is sort of encoded into the background of a lot of fics and discussions. They can also influence the prevailing fanon at any given time, in terms of which configurations of an ensemble hang out the most, who tops versus who bottoms, etc. There are some folks who actively choose all the pairings in the slate. Others choose some of the pairings in the Slate when writing a fic, but they may not choose all of them. Other people’s reading of their work may be affected by the Slate.

There are always ships that get popular outside of the Slate. For instance, Young Royals fandom has a fondness for Madisander. At one point we were getting into Roshella. Are we still into that? We should still be into that, it coulda been fun.

The Slate is not an inherently bad or an inherently good thing, but I think it’s good for fandoms to be aware of them. It’s also good to recognize the influence they have on fanon and interpretations of canon. It might also make you aware of which characters do and don’t get shipped a lot, or patterns in who your fandom recognizes as more dominant/more repressed/more desireable/whatever else.

You can also go against the Slate to shake things up once in a while, because it’s not actually a rule. I say this because “chronic desire to shake things up” was on my paperwork when I got diagnosed with hyperactive-subtype ADHD. (Yes, that was a neurodivergent joke, sorry.) For instance, Sara/Felice means so much more to me as a platonic relationship than a romantic relationship, because it reminds me of some of the strong platonic friendships that make my life rich and livable, but I’m totally here to ship Felice romantically with Rosh or maybe even Ayub. Or like, as far as non-canon August pairings go, I think we’re really sleeping on August/Nils. It could be so good! And then sometimes you get ideas for a crack pairing, because we all love a good crack pairing.

Anyway, what do you think? Does the Slate of Standard Pairings theory hold water?

ep2: ok so in ep2 i’m sooooo obsessed with the tiny scene where simon puts his head on wille’s shoulder like a little dog or something. there’s just something sooo innocent and wholesome about it. but then there’s also wille and august’s fight and oh my god. the way wille almost killed him just because he said a few words to his bf… like calm down but also i support u. then again I actually have found myself kinda rooting for august this season so… kinda yikes too. and oh my god wait wait i have to talk about simon’s new song. FIRST OF FUCKING ALL THE REFERENCE TO REVOLUTION BY ELIAS (which im coincidentally listening to right now)??? AND THEN ALSO HIS LITTLE CHUCKLE WHEN HE GETS THR POSITIVE COMMENTS (which are absolutely deserved. it needs to be on Spotify right now) THAT SCENE. I LOVE SIMON. BUT THEN AGAIN NOT EVEN THR BEST PART BECAUSE I INOW IT WS SAD BUT WHEN WILLE CALLED SIMON TELLING HIM HE NEEDED TO DELETE THR VIDEO HIS LITTLE OKAY… !!//&&

ep3: for ep3 firstly the pre-camp scene when wille picks up simon. the “big boy”. IM CRYING. and the hammock scene …….. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. but oh my god do not even get me fuckinf started on the rave scene. that one frame of wilmon. roshella and frederika’s jealousy (ok personally i am not a stella nor frederika fan. the way they treat Felice is an absolute no but still that scene killed me). BUT ALSO WILMON’s TENT FIGHT??? I MEAN LIKE. THE SHUSHING. WILLE REFERENCINF SIMON SELLIG TO AUGUST. ABSOLUTELY. FOUL. ok but the one that really did it for me was simon and linda comfort scene. i cried during that scene. i love love love linda and simon so much no one will get it.

ep4: wilmon flirting during the inspection. no further notes . anyways sara and her dad bonding driving singing scene. I didn’t include most of sara’s scenes in my favourite scenes but oh my god can I just say sara, august, and micke this season I loved their stories sos so much. and the singing while driving scene. it hurt me. because as much as I hate to admit it micke reminds me of my own dad (and wille. wille this season. when I watched some of his scenes I got fully afraid). so yeah that’s really important to me!! ok anyway there is also the baking scene. no further notes on this one too. OK BUT THE HALLWAY MAKEOUT I SCREAMED. WHAT. I really really really need edvin and omar’s commentary on this one.

ep4: not many fave scenes in this one but my favourite scene in this ep was probably the one after simon’s home was broke into and wille runs to him and embraces him in a hug. no kissing, no sneaky flirting (as much as I love those things) just pure warmth and love and care. I loved it.

ep5: actually ep5 Broke me but since young royals is just so amazing I still managed to have favourite scenes in this one. first is the music room fight. yes yes I know it was terrible but it was terrible and I loved it. I just really loved the intensity here and it was such a huge contrast from the previous seasons too because tbh s1 and s2 to me were mostly like wille being obsessed with simon and simon being an amazing confident assertive boyfriend. but this season…. this scene… it changed. wille’s angry so much and it’s like simon is just trying his best. he’s sacrificed some of his own feelings to care for wille’s (not saying he didn’t do that previous seasons) it was biggggg. ALSO THE MORNING HAPPY BIRTHDAY. I LOVE YOU WILMON. oh OH OH AND THEN AUGUST GIVING SAFA THE LETTER. like I said previously i actually am kind of rooting for august this season and sara I love her screen time so much she’s such an interesting character. so the combo of this … it was crazy. and I honestly really enjoyed the way sara just hugged august it made me smile very hard but ngl the kiss was abit too much for me. i think that was like…not good of them to do. last but not least wilmon birthday fight. can i just say. the whole cast in that scene were amazing. you know the famous fallen angel painting. that was how amazing edvin’s acting was. it was so so intense. and simon/omar .. i respect them so much in that scene. anyways we’re not gonna talk abt the bed scene because that doesn’t exist in my little head anymore :)

okay that was it i believe. both waiting for and watching the last episode will probably include a lot of crying. but u know it is what it is!! we rock this shit right!! i love young royals with my whole heart and to the anon that sent me this ask im so so sorry for dumping all this on u but thank u for letting me talk :3 n to anyone else who saw this if u read even one paragraph of this i love you

idk how to feel about the possible rosh x stella relationship cause while i think it’d be a lot less predictable than them just having stella get the girl she’s been harboring a crush on AND it’d be better wlw rep since rosh on her own is a much more interesting and integral character than stella and fredricka are—i don’t necessarily want the show to fall down a “all the rich kids get a working class lover to make them better people” trend lol

idk where the other anon has been, but stella being wlw was celebrated by a lot of people and she’s been shipped with fredricka (cause she canonically has a crush on her) and now rosh.

before it was known that stella was queer, felice and sara were already being shipped because there was (at the time) no wlw rep and no one was about to ship the background characters like stella with a main cast member when felice and sara already had a bond going on. so even tho stella was later revealed to be queer, people weren’t just going to stop shipping an already formed ship for the sake of a canonical queer character who honestly isn’t that integral to the actual storyline.

and rosh has been an established character from the beginning who fans headcanoned to be a lesbian until season 2 pretty much confirmed that she was. so in fanfic and shit rosh was an full on lesbian who people shipped with madison (another headcanoned wlw) who’s lore of an integral character than stella.

and then when season 2 rolled around and stella was confirmed to be queer, people did celebrate that. granted, it wasn’t as huge because again, stella is far from the biggest character on the show. so her storyline wasn’t as hitting because we really aren’t attached to her or even know who she is other than that she supports the death penalty. and she isn’t really shipped with other characters other than rosh because she canonically has a crush on someone already. so if people are going to write about stella, and they definitely have, then they’re going to write her with fredricka.

(also i’m pretty sure people wrote about stella and fredricka being a thing before season 2 even came out lmao)

and the thing about yr is that it is a mlm show. the wlw rep we’ve gotten is great and i’d love more of it but it’s not what the show or fandom centers around at all. (if it did the show probably wouldn’t have gotten renewed for a second or third season cause netflix hates lesbians BUT that’s a convo for another day 🫶🫶)

wilmon isn’t the same as rosh x stella at all lmao. as other anons have pointed out, stella is classist and supports something as horrific as the death penalty. the only similarity between her and wilhelm is that they’re both white and unethically wealthy. but at least wille is a good person. stella, from the little we’ve seen of her, is not. so her being in a relationship with a working class person like rosh wouldn’t be cute at all. it’d be fucking weird considering the kind of person she is. at least with wilmon we know that wilhelm is in disagreement with the life he lives and actually admires simon for every single thing about him. wilhelm practically worships the ground simon walks on and that is infinitely better than a rich white girl who sees no issue with sending people (most commonly working class or below working class people of color) to death. hope this helps

To be fair I think another fun thing about Roshella (Stesh? Stosh? Rella? Rolla?) is that I think I’d really enjoy it as would other people, and it would be nice to have more people to enjoy a sapphic ship with. The community aspect of it would be fun!
