The first time it happened you didn’t even realize you where doing it. Seated on the couch between the arm rest and Bucky, watching Stranger Things, as a particularly tense scene unfolds, your hand reaches over and grabs his shirt. Holding tight to the soft fabric you rub it between your fingers to try to calm your nerves. Bucky doesn’t say a word, a soft smile on his face as he throws a lazy arm around your shoulder.

The second time you were standing in the kitchen while Bucky was making breakfast, the smell of pancakes and bacon floating through the air. Unable to resist, you rest against his back and sneak your arm under his, stealing a piece of bacon from the pile. You don’t move as you take the first bite, leaning your cheek to his back. His tee shirt is soft and warm, and you just stand there enjoying your bacon and Bucky.

The third time it happened you were having a bad day. You stomp into the common room in search of some chocolate. The day had finally caught up with you and you were done. Needing something yummy and sweet you search the cabinet for your secret stash of goodies. When you realize you’ve finished the last of it and haven’t been out to get more the tears start to fall.

It isn’t until strong arms wrap around your shoulders that you realize someone else is in the room. The smell of Bucky surrounds you like a warm blanket, his soft tee shirt like heaven against your skin as he holds you. Turning around in his arms you bury your face in his chest, smoothing your hands over the plush material. When you finally pull away you’ve gotten snot and tears all over it, your eyes sad as you look up at him.

“I’m sorry Buck. I ruined your shirt. I love your shirts! They’re so soft and you’re always so warm. And now I’ve ruined it!” Fresh tears start to fall after your rambling and Bucky pulls you into his chest again. “Hey doll, it’s ok. It’s fine. Shhhh, don’t worry about anything. I have plenty of tee shirts.” He rubs your back soothingly and kisses the top of your head.

Once you’ve calmed down, he leads you over to the couch, getting the blanket and covering your legs. “Wait here, I’ll be right back.” He jogs down the hall to his room, returning shortly with something draped over his shoulder. He goes into the kitchen and puts on some tea while opening and closing a bunch of cabinets. The tea whistles and he pours two mugs, walking over with the steaming liquid and a package of cookies.

“It isn’t your chocolate but hopefully it helps.” He sets everything down on the coffee table and takes your hand to help you stand, removing the item on his shoulder. “Here, I brought you one of my shirts. You can put it on if you want.” He holds up the dark blue tee, a hopeful smile on his face. “Oh my god, Bucky, thank you. Yes, I definitely want to wear it.”

You start to take off your oversized sweatshirt and Bucky’s breath hitches, his eyes wandering over your body. The small tank top you have on under it leaves little to the imagination and you smirk when you see him try to keep his eyes on yours. Taking the shirt from his hand you throw it over your head, giggling when it falls almost to your knees.

You curl your arms around yourself, rubbing the material in happiness. “I love it!” you squeal before launching yourself into his arms, “thank you.” He holds you close before falling to the couch and tucking you under his arm. “I’m so glad, doll, you can keep it. It looks way better on you anyway,” he says, before leaning down you place a sweet kiss to your lips.

Swan Princess Party

A magical black and white swan princess party with pink, of course!

The idea of a swan party was inspired by the swan pool float we have had for a few years. It just so happened my daughter was into Barbie’s Swan Princess movie when I started planning her 4th birthday.

So, the swan idea came to life around swans and princesses  - feathers, ballet shoes (as an ode to Swan Lake), swans, and black and white accented with pink. Cake by Wink by Erika with added “4″ candle, photos by Johnny Than.

Black linens on the table with our white charivari chairs pulled in the colors perfectly! And, the cute swan plates looked great on the black linens. To turn the swan plates into swan princess plates, I found gold crowns and added them to the plates. Ta-da! Swan princess plates. We added the gold crowns to the swan masks, as well.

Behind the kids’s table, we hung silk wisteria on fishing line to have a hanging floral accent. It took way more pieces than I imagined (and I still wish I’d done more of them), but it was a fun photo spot.

The  centerpieces were one of my all time favorites! I found the set of three swans in different sizes and ordered 2. My mom arranged the fresh flowers for the party and put them in the swan planters.

The food even reflected the black, white, and pink theme! Black licorice, chocolates, and chocolate goldfish were spread with yogurt covered pretzels, vanilla sugar wafers, iced animal cookies, vanilla ding dongs, white M&Ms, mini white chocolate Oreos, white chocolate covered mini Rice Krispie treats, white swirl suckers, white chocolate truffles, and pink M&Ms on my favorite melamine platter.

Another tray had the almost black colored grapes and an assortment of white cheeses, marcona almonds, macadamia nuts, and Pirate’s Booty.

We also used black rock candy in a container with more of the white chocolate pearls.  And, I found a great jewelry stand to display powdered donuts and chocolate donuts. Now the jewelry stand holds my daughter’s headbands.

White feather boas were great for draping around platters and decorations. And, we used the same flowers from our daughter’s Garden Party first birthday to add pink accents to the feathers (seriously the best faux peonies I’ve ever found).

For decorated cookies, I chose a “4″ for the 4 year old along with a feather and swans. These were done by Sweets by Shey and were tasty and on theme. She even added a little sparkle to the 4s.

The tiered serving piece has become my go-to piece for the decorated cookies at the parties, so I’m linking it here.

Another tray of food included White Cheddar Cheez-its, Pirates Booty, white cheddar popcorn, Chicken-in-a-Biscuit, Wheat Thins, and pink Goldfish to continue the white and pink foods.

I really enjoy carrying a theme all throughout the party, if you can’t tell.

I found the cutest swan cups for all of the kids that we kept on the beverage table alongside “Swan Lake Lemonade” (pink, of course!) and the cutest swan mugs from Manor used for additional florals.

In addition to the feather and floral decor, we used swan stuffed animals like the ballerina swan pictured below from Manor.

Now to discuss my sweet girl’s dress! 

Every year Cuteheads makes a custom piece for the birthday girl to wear. This year, Esther must have read my mind because she created this piece that was perfect for a Swan Princess Ballerina party - light pink tulle with swans all over accessorized with ballet flats and a peony hair piece. 

Our swan princess ballerina was overjoyed when Rapunzel showed up to let her know Odette from Swan Lake sends birthday wishes! Fairest of All Parties has the BEST princesses in the Houston area. They worked with me tirelessly to try to have Odette from Swan Lake, but the costume was nowhere to be found and there was not enough time to create one. 

My daughter’s favorite princess at the time was Rapunzel, so it was a welcome surprise for her. Rapunzel sang (beautifully) with the kids, told stories, and shared a treasure chest of treasures. She even did face painting on the kids. 

We loved her so much, we used Fairest of All Parties for the 5th birthday (post coming soon) and are now planning number 6 with another Fairest of All Parties princess. 

Favors for the kids included a swan princess holder, swan princess “Thank You” sticker, princess crown full of candy, princess lip balm, princess rings, princess bracelets, and stickers tied with tulle.

Arcana Wildcraft Layering Notes Review

Arcana has been making layering note perfumes for yeeears, and steadily keeps adding new and exciting options. They’re designed to be layered with each other or with your favorite blended fragrances so that you can customize your olfactory experience! It’s also perfectly fine to wear them on their own, which is what I usually do. They’re currently on sale on the Arcana Wildcraft site, so it’s a great opportunity to try them out!

Aged Patchouli

Scent description: Earthy, spicy iron-distilled patchouli essential oil in dilution. The very finest quality. Aging since early 2018.

I love patchouli in theory, but it’s very hard for me to find one that I really vibe with. This one is gorgeous. It’s super earthy, deep, woody, and musky without being sharp or overly pungent. It’s very, very smooth and slinky. Gorgeous!

Black Tea 

Scent description:  A smoky, rich, sexy black tea.

Oh wow. This smells like an expensive cup of steaming, rich black tea, as described. It’s very fragrant—like chai spice, or chai tea without milk. It’s so rich and luxurious that it almost smells like a fine sandalwood. Tea scents sometimes go awry on my skin (with something like anise creeping around the edges), but this is wonderful.

Candy Cane

Scent description:  Wild-harvested sweet peppermint with French vanilla extract and a hint of bright white musk.

Like most of Julia’s mint blends, this scent is a stunner! The wild-harvested peppermint is cold and bracing and nose-clearing, but natural and not chemical. It’s invigorating and beautiful. The mint is sweetened by the vanilla and made sparkling and shiny by the white musk. This is the perfect candy cane—sparkling and clean and delicious. A wonderful, happy scent!

Fresh Coconut

Scent description: A pure, beachy, almost underripe coconut with a light dusting of sugar.

This is absolutely true to the description! It’s a freshly cracked coconut sprinkled with sugar. It manages to be both fresh and a little creamy, and is utterly natural. This is not a fake coconut/suntan lotion scent. I’m a big fan of coconut, and this one is a beauty. It layers very, very well with Aged Patchouli!

Golden Musk

Scent description:  A clean, strong, voluptuous golden musk.

This is a pretty and classy musk that is of the “my skin, but better” variety. It’s hazy, like a light golden cloud hovering above my wrist. It elegant and addictive—I keep sniffing my wrist!

Hot Cocoa

Scent description:  Passionately chocolate. A rich cocoa CO2 infusion melds with the finest dark chocolate and a mug full of fluffy white marshmallows.

Oh good gravy. This is the richest, creamiest (made with whole milk), dreamiest, steaming cup of artisanal hot chocolate with melting marshmallows bobbing in the mug. Seriously, this is the best hot chocolate scent that I’ve come across. If I close my eyes, it’s like I’m smelling the real thing. It’s perfection.

Marshmallow

Scent description:  The scent of a soft, fluffy, vanilla-infused marshmallow.

This smells more like true, actual Jet-Puffed brand marshmallows than most marshmallow notes that I’ve tried. To be precise, this smells like Jet-Puffed marshmallows melting in the saucepan—in the process of becoming the base for my homemade rice crispy treats. This one applied like a skin scent, but then bloomed with the warmth of my skin. It’s warm, creamy, rich marshmallow goodness!

PB&J

Scent description: Rich peanut butter, grape jelly, and a hint of toast.

We have the lovely Shannon to thank for this creation! ❤️ This opens with a bright burst of sugary, sticky grape jelly. I haven’t eaten grape jelly since childhood, and this takes me back to my lunchbox in the cacophonous elementary school cafeteria. Warming up the cool jelly is a touch of peanut butter, which is ultra smooth and creamy. There is the tiniest pinch of toasted whole wheat crust that rounds out the experience. If you’re a fan of peanut butter sammies, grape jelly, and some serious nostalgia, do yourself a favor and try out this fantastically fun blend.

Peach

Scent description: The sunny essence of a softly sweet, perfectly ripe peach.

Errrr am I smelling a fragrance oil or an actual, juicy, ripe peach? This peach is indeed perfectly ripe-- it’s dripping with sweet juices and the skin is thin and gently fuzzy. What wizardry makes this smell fuzzy? This is a gorgeous, perfect peach scent. If you’re a peach fan it’s a must-have in your collection! I’ll happily wear this beauty on its own!

Pistachio Ice Cream

Scent description: Sweet, nutty pistachios blended with cold ice cream.  

This scent gives me a serious craving for pistachio ice cream! This blend is perfect. It smells cold, but not frigid, like it’s beginning to drip down the sides of the cone. The pistachio is perfect--it’s nutty and smooth and gorgeous! I do get a pop of bright cherry-like fruitiness with this one, but real life pistachio ice cream smells/tastes that way to me as well. It’s almost like the way a fine almond extract has some cherry-ness to it—the nut accord is so rich and potent that it reads that way. I can confirm that Pistachio Ice Cream smells exactly like Ben & Jerry’s Pistachio Pistachio!

Pollution

Scent description: Plumes of black smoke rising from coal fires, burnt vetiver, and a slick of motor oil.

Wow--this is a lot like the gorgeous, dark smoke note that I love so much in Witches Wear Big Black Stompy Boots. It’s surprisingly wearable. It’s the scent of the charred remnants of a campfire, with a generous pool of motor oil nearby. It develops a hint of sweetness with wear--like a smooth, worn weather jacket. It’s oddly comforting, if a little dangerous. If I were still going out on the town, I would wear this for a bit of confidence.

Pumpkin

Scent description: A golden gourd sugared with maple and dusted with pie spices.

I get lots of sweet, syrupy maple and a gentle sprinkling of cinnamon and nutmeg over fresh pumpkin. The cinnamon is not overwhelming for me, but is definitely present. This starts out smelling a bit moist, like pumpkin pie mix before being baked, but becomes drier with wear. It’s lovely.

Pumpkin Milkshake

Scent description: Cold vanilla ice cream blended with fresh pumpkin, milk, sugar, and Korintje cinnamon.

Hoo boy this is pretty. This scent has perfectly captured my idea of autumnal comfort--snuggled up in a blanket with something yummy to nibble and sip on while the weather howls outside. It’s a sweet vanilla pumpkin ice cream with a tiny hint of spice. It’s not overly sweet, overly milky, or overly spicy. It’s perfect. I can’t imagine anyone not loving this one.

Red Lipstick

Scent description:  The glamorous scent of classic red lipstick in a vintage gold-plated case.

This does smell like high-end lipstick—and it’s beautiful. It’s classy and elegant, a bit powdery like violets (dry violets and fresh, velvety, deep purple violets). The musk and maybe a hint of rose round and smooth out the violets, which can sometimes overwhelm scents for me and smell fake, but these are realistic and tame and beautiful.

Rich Vanilla

Scent description: A deep, rich gourmand scent laced with French creme and dark Madagascar vanilla extract.

This is truthfully the richest of the rich vanillas. It’s thick, ultra gourmand, and syrupy sweet. It smells like there’s a hint of alcohol--evoking a very fine, expensive vanilla extract. 

Seaweed

Scent description: Our proprietary dilution of seaweed absolute, this is briny, oceanic, pungent, and kelp-like.

Wow. I’m pretty sure that Julia distilled this from actual seaweed. It smells so, so incredibly realistic, and there are little flecks of briny, dark green matter floating around the bottle. At first, I’m reminded of the scent of the dried seaweed used for rolling sushi. This sounds odd, and it kind of is to be honest, but it’s also strangely addictive. There’s a touch of brine, but it’s not super salty. It’s exactly like sitting at the edge of the ocean and taking a deep breath of gorgeous, oceanic goodness. It’s the most realistic oceanic scent that I’ve come across, and it will be treasured. If you’re yearning for the scent of the sea, give this a try.

Smoked Vanilla

Scent description: A sweet, subtly smoky, non-gourmand vanilla.

This vanilla is much more dry and less sweet than Rich Vanilla. There’s a ghost of smoke--it doesn’t smell overtly smoky, but there’s a hint of subtle smoky sophistication. I much prefer this elegant, subtle vanilla to Rich Vanilla.

Trees

Scent description:  Deep and grounded, yet infused with air and sunlight. Jammy fir absolute with sugared pine, earthy black spruce, Canadian fir needle, and a touch of Atlas cedarwood.

This is a beautiful evergreen forest scent. It’s like walking through a Christmas tree farm in the sunshine. I love the jammy fir absolute that Julia uses—it’s rich and alive, not dry and brittle. All of the notes are well-blended. I do smell a bit of the cedar wood, but it’s behaving itself and smells more like living bark than a strongly scented cedar chest. Overall this is very wearable and beautiful. Another winner in Julia’s great collection of beautiful forest scents.

Truffle

Scent description: A dark chocolate ganache center is dipped in thick, generous layers of milk chocolate and white chocolate.

Sweet white and creamy milk chocolate! This smells like the real thing! With wear I get a hint of the smooth, dry dark chocolate. I avoid chocolate scents, but I find myself really liking this one! It’s rich and sweet, but not overly so. A chocolate lover’s dream scent!

Ultraviolet

Scent description:  A candied violet accord. Piquant white tea, tender violets, sweet vanilla, bubble gum, and cotton candy.

Violet bubble gum! This is a lovely candied violet scent, but it is very sweet. The sweetness does tame pretty significantly with wear.

Whipped Cream

Scent description:  Chilled heavy cream is deeply infused with Tahitian vanilla and then whipped into soft white peaks.

Soft, fluffy, gourmand, vanilla-flavored whipped cream with a wee hint of fresh vanilla bean and maybe a kick of Grand Marnier! This does smell chilled--it’s somewhere between ice cream and warm fresh cream. This is absolutely heavenly. It’s neither too sweet nor too gourmand.

Yellow Cake

Scent description:  The scent of a sweet, golden bakery cake.

I’ve had this bottle for years and it’s one of my favorite scents to wear when my spirits are flagging. I also wear it every year in my birthday! The scent is true to its description: it’s a moist, sweet, homemade yellow batter cake. Exactly the type that my grandmother used to make for all of our birthdays in the 1980s. It’s not too sweet—it’s warm and moist and fluffy. It’s a beautiful scent that should be a staple in every perfume collection. Years ago there was a sugar scrub make in this scent, and it was heaven. I wish that it would make a reappearance!

You pushed the sleeves of your sweater up to your elbows, making sure the melted chocolate you were drizzling landed on the fruit in front of you and not the fabric. When the last strawberry had been perfectly covered in dark brown lines over top a sweet, white coating, you placed them all in a plate in perfect rows. One white with dark, then dark with white, then covered in coconut, then actual nuts, etc.

You moved all of the utensils and bowls you had used over to the sink, washing away stray sprinkles and hardened chocolate. Xiumin was across the kitchen, placing just the right number of marshmallows into two big mugs of hot cocoa.

Monday morning, Xiumin met with his manager only to found out his Valentine’s Day week was booked with fan meets and practice all day and galas and charity events all night. So here you were, a whole week before Valentine’s day, making the most of things. You begged for the day off to spend with him, which thankfully worked. The two of you wanted to celebrate together in private before all the big public appearances. No fancy dinners. No flashing cameras. Not even pants. Just blankets and snacks and a cheesy rom-com or three.

“These look fantastic, baby,” Xiumin said as he looked up from his mountain of mini marshmallows.

“I hope so,” you replied, looking back at the plate of strawberries. “I spent way longer than I thought making them.”

Xiumin chuckled lightly before he looked over to you. Your legs were bare, as you never wanted to wear pants in the comfort of your own home. You had lazy tied your hair up when you started making snacks, and your sweater sleeves were still pushed up to your elbows as you scrubbed away at the dishes. You were just as much of a neat freak as Xiumin, and he loved it. He abandoned his mugs and made his way over two you. His arms wrapped around your waist from behind and he held your body close as he whispered, “You look fantastic, too, baby.”

You turned your head to look at him. He was an a navy hoodie with the hood pulled over his head, hiding the back of his faded pink hair. His eyes were twinkling behind his massive, round glasses, and his lips looked so soft you couldn’t stop yourself from quickly kissing them before you responded, “You always look fantastic.”

He kissed you back, before removing his body from behind yours to stand next to you. He pushed up his own sleeves and reached for the dishes on the left side of the sink, ready to rinse and dry for you.

“No,” you protested, “I’ve got it. Go pick out a movie.”

“But if I help, then you can come pick it with me,” he countered. You sighed, backing down. It didn’t take much for him to win this one. You didn’t want him bothered with household things on his day off, but if it meant spending more time with him, you’d let rinsing off a few bowls and spoons slide.

With all the dishes done and all sleeves repositioned, the two of grabbed your chocolate creations and made your way to the couch. There were already two massive bowls filled with chips and popcorn waiting for you. Xiumin handed you an expertly filled mug of hot cocoa, the warmth immediately spreading to your hands. You set it on the coffee table while you pulled your sleeves down over your hands as a makeshift barrier between the hot glass and your skin. Xiumin looked over at you, your legs curled underneath you and hands covered by your oversized top. He chuckled before mumbling “cute” into the melting marshmallows on top of his drink. You swat at his arms with your sleeve, which only made him laugh at you even more.

“What movie are we watching?” You asked, trying avert his attention.

“I don’t know,” he replied casually.

“You were supposed to pick, babe,” You whined dramatically.

“Oh, sorry, I was washing the dishes,” he shrugged. You laughed as he pulled out his phone, scrolling through Netflix for a moment before asking, “Do you want a good movie or one that’s so bad it’s good?”

“Surprise me,” You responded and finished off the last of your hot chocolate. You stood and took your mug to the sink, simply running some water into it before returning to your spot on the couch. Xiumin has stretched out in the minute it took for you to come back. He was leaning on the armrest with an arm behind his head, one leg dangling off the edge and the other stretched along the couch. He was focused on his phone as you crawled in between his legs. You moved all the way his legs and turned around, reclining your back against his stomach and head against his chest. Once you were settled, he dropped his phone and pulled a blanket over you, kissing the top of your head after wrapping you up.

You grabbed the tray of strawberries and comfortably sat his silence, enjoying the treat you spent so much time on while laying on Xiumin’s body. The strawberries were sweet and juicy, with just the right amount of crunch from the hardening chocolate and various toppings. You turned slightly so your cheek lay against Xiumin’s chest and set the plate back on the coffee table. You picked up a single strawberry and tapped on your boyfriend’s chest.

“Hey, Min,” you said quietly. He brought one arm down and wrapped around, squeezing your waist and giving you a short hum as a response. You held the berry up to his face and continued, “Try some.”

An adorable, curious pout graced his lips as he looked down at you. His eyes lit up, looking between you and the strawberry before smiling and taking a bite. He chewed on the combination of strawberry, chocolate, and peanut before smiling again. He swallowed, liked the excess off his lips, and went in for the rest, which you were holding for him with a grin on your lips.

“It’s good, babe,” Xiumin grinned, giving your waist another reassuring squeeze. You reached down on the plate and gave him another. This one he ate in one bite, his lips grazing your fingers as he took in his mouth. You giggled and rested your head against his chest for just a moment long enough for him to grab the next strawberry. When he rose back up, he was ready to place it against your lips.

You wrapped your lips around the end, looking up at him with big, innocent eyes and you sucked the fruit out his gentle grasp. He kept eye contact with you as he grabbed one more and brought his hand back to your mouth. You repeated the action, this time letting your lips remain on his fingertips for a few noticeable seconds longer.

Xiumin smirked, moving his hand from your lips to the back of your neck, pulling you towards his lips. You understood his actions immediately and moved up his chest so your mouths were level. You turned in his hold so that you were not longer on your side. You were chest to chest instead, on your knees between Xiumin’s legs as your lips continued to move against one another. You could taste chocolate and feel his smile. Xiumin moved his body up the couch, now in more of a sitting position that before. He brought his legs in, and you straddled him and rested your weight in his lap.

You began to move gently back and forth against him, the lack of pants on your end heightening your experience. You began to emit small, breathy moans between kisses.
