thunder crashes outside the cafe, and fred all but jumps out of her skin. “oh!” she laughs. “that scared me!”

willow’s slopped coffee all over her sweater, and she crinkles her nose at the dampness. fred puts a hand over her mouth and passes her a stack of napkins, their fingertips grazing. the air smells like sugar and damp earth.

“you want to maybe get out of here?” willow asks, curling her fingers around fred’s. “i have an apartment right nearby.”

fred blushes and looks down, nodding. they leave the cafe holding hands and giggling, and walk straight into a rainstorm. willow puts her hands up as a reflex, but fred turns her face right up into it, opens her mouth and hands to catch the rain.

“we’re in the middle of a thunderstorm and you wanna stop and feel the rain?” willow asks. she tells the rain firmly to avoid her, and it parts like a curtain wherever she moves. fred is getting soaked, and enjoying every second of it. she shrugs, mouth and hands still open.

“we didn’t have much rain in pylea,” she says reflectively. “i missed it.”

willow smiles. tells the rain to fall wherever it likes. kisses fred with the rain in their mouths.
