i cannot be the only person pissed off at the ‘Professional VS TikTok acting’ videos all over my feed right now

the videos claim that having a face full of expression and using bodily motions is not real acting - but it is.

the “TikTok Acting” IS professional acting - on Broadway. In Theatre you need to have exaggerated movements and convey emotion with every atom of you so that people in the nosebleeds can see you. the more widespread form of professional acting - screen acting - is the way it is because you can zoom into the subtle changes in a person’s face and you can guarantee that the viewer will see it

also, saying that TikTok Acting - which is really Theatre Acting - is not Professional Acting diminishes the joy and cultural impact of the Theatre.

some people I follow have taken a stand against it after commenters told them to ‘act more realistically’ (like rosemagpie on youtube) and explained that the acting done is due to theatre training.

This was brought up by someone on Tiktok, I think Rosemagpie, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

You know how birds behave when they see their reflections? Freaked out because hello! There’s another bird here! Wait-...he’s kinda good looking. Almost...too good looking. Who does this guy think he is?! And he just goes through like 5 different emotions in as many seconds. From jumping back at the sight of himself, then just checking himself out because damm he’s handsome. To just-...outright chesting up to the mirror/window/whatever reflective surface he had come across. Puffing out his chest and feathers and aggressively throwing fighting words, until he eventually just breaks it by throwing feathers into it.

But when it breaks, he just snaps out of it. Looks around to see if anyone saw what had just happened. And if anyone was with him he’d just “So I did it again but I swear I thought he was a threat this time.”

“Hawks that was your reflection. You’re not a threat.”

“I KNOW THAT.”
