Ok, chapter five of the fake dating au is up! (Emergency Girlfriend Program)

Excerpt:

“Wait,” Miguel ordered, before the other person could talk.

The line was quiet. Miguel carefully, quickly, got out of his bed, pulling the comforter over Gabi and then went out of his room. With a sigh he put the phone back to his ear.

“Alright, you can talk.”

“You sure? Or do I need a doctor’s note giving me permission?”

“Parker -“

“And would it kill you to give me a proper greeting?”

Miguel pinched the bridge of his nose. “Morning.”

“Good morning Migs!”

“Is there a reason you called me?”

“No, the next order of small talk is to ask how I slept or make a comment about the weather. And then I’d ask you and then we’d fake laugh about how California doesn’t really have seasons -“

“Let’s pretend we just did that.”

“Alright, not a morning person.”

“I like mornings. I hate unexpected calls.”

Since it’s Miguel’s birthday I’m posting the next chapter of EGP (Emergency Girlfriend Program). Enjoy!

Chp 8 excerpt:

“I’m doing the wedding gig.”

Peter turned off the car. “MJ, he hasn’t asked.”

”I’m not leaving him to face that bullshit on his own.”

“He’s got his brother and that cousin of his.”

”But he needs someone outside of the family to do and say things that the others are too scared to do.”

”Red, you picked a fight with his ex when he was prepared to leave.”

”She’s awful, Peter. Ugh, you should have seen her. Acting all sweet and innocent and so fucking haughty. Such a typical white girl routine.”

”MJ, you are a white girl.”

“I’m not a rich bitch white girl.”

Peter wanted to sigh and laugh at the same time. He settled on a shake of his head. ”Ok, I’ll give you that.” He tapped his finger on the steering wheel. He should be driving. But he wanted to make sure he was making eye contact with her for this conversation. “You know, people tend to find their special someone at occasions like weddings. What if your presence ruins that for Miguel, hm?”

Excerpt (MJ goes by Rose in the fake dating scenario):

I don’t believe we’ve met.”

Rose turned her attention away from Miguel. “We haven’t.”

The woman in the magenta jump suit smoothly stepped forward with her hand outstretched.

“Dana D’Angelo.”

“Rose Stacy.”

The two women shook hands.

“You know… there’s something vaguely familiar about you.”

Rose tilted her head. “Yeah, I have the same feeling…”

“I highly doubt it was the country club though.” Dana lightly laughed.

Rose felt herself bristle. “It could have been. Who knows?”

Peter winced on his side. “Red, don’t start something.”

”Then again,” Rose sweetly smiled. “I doubt we have the same social circles, Dana.”

“Indeed.” Dana eyed the proximity of Rose and Miguel and stiffly smiled at Rose. “Well, it’s nice to meet a friend of Miggy’s.”

“Oh honey no.” Rose smiled just as icily. “Girlfriend.”

Ok chapter 6 of Emergency Girlfriend Program (fake dating au, rosefang but poly endgame) is now up!

Excerpt (MJ goes by Rose as Mig’s fake gf):

”I’m the charming brother!” Gabri had a big ol’ smile as he hugged and kissed Rose’s cheeks. “Welcome! Miggy hasn’t brought someone to one of these things in - a while, let’s just say that.”

There was a chuckle in his earbud from Peter. “Miggy?”

Por dios. He was going to have to remember to threaten Peter not to use that nickname. Then again, the man seemed to be into punishment. It might give Peter mixed signals. But that would have to wait.

”Thank you Gabriel.”

”Oh please, Gabri or Gabe. My full name makes me feel like I’m about to be spanked for something. Or jury duty.”

Rose laughed. Gabriel put his arm along her upper back, not bothered by the fact that he was pushing Miguel aside.

”Gabri,” Miguel warned.

”I’m just getting your date a drink. You can go find your seats. Food should be coming out soon.”

Happy New Year! Chp 4 of the faking dating au is up (Emergency Girlfriend Program).

Excerpt:

In the afternoon, Miguel went to the mall where they agreed to meet.

He looked around the seating area, looking for Mary Jane. He spotted Peter in a pale pink button up first. He couldn’t hide the grimace from his face apparently. Peter’s smile waned and went flat.

“Well don’t be too excited to see me.”

“Sorry, I thought I was meeting Mary Jane.”

“Rose, actually,” came her voice from behind. “Might as well stay in character.”

Miguel turned around with a smoothie in her hands, the dark cherry wig on but the wavy hair up in a ponytail except for two wavy locks along her temples. She gave him a quick look over, making him internally glad he went with a casual navy blue polo and slacks to inadvertently match her baby blue sundress.

Peter noticed the blue tinted sunglasses were still on his face. “Even these lights are too bright?”

Miguel turned his head back to Peter. “Not really.” He lightly touched the side of his glasses. “These are more to keep people from gawking.”

Peter snorted. “I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your eyes are not the reason people stare at you.”

“My height, I know.”

“Seriously?” Peter jovially laughed. “You’re fricking handsome, man. You’d make bank as a supermodel.”

Miguel made a sound in the back of his throat, quickly looking away. MJ laughed behind her hand, using her other hand to pat Miguel’s shoulder.

“Alright, stop teasing him Peter.”

Peter shrugged. “Hey, I’m just telling him the truth.”

Alrighty fam! Chapter three of Emergency Girlfriend Program is now up (fake dating non powers au, rosefang but poly endgame)!

Excerpt:

Miguel’s cell phone buzzed. He gratefully looked at it.

Mary Jane: Happy Tuesday, Miguel. Here’s the dark auburn wig I have. Let me know what you think.

He lifted up his amber tinted computer glasses to get a better look at the photo. He frowned at it then texted back immediately.

Miguel: that’s dark brown

MJ: There’s dark orange-red shine to it. Cell camera might not be picking up on it.

Miguel: ….(typing)

Miguel: ….(typing)

MJ: Wow, that bad huh? The only other “red” I have is this dark cherry red.

Miguel paused in texting to look at the second image. He pursed his lips and erased what he was initially texting and retyped.

Miguel: that’s maroon looking, edging on purple

Alrighty chp 2 of the fake dating au Emergency Girlfriend Program is posted!

Excerpt:

“Who are you?”

The guy smiled. “I’m Peter, MJ’s associate.” He gestured to the empty chair across from Miguel. When Miguel didn’t make to stop him Peter sat down and pulled out his laptop. “I screen all potential clients before we move on with the process.” Peter pulled out a blue and red webbed glasses case and slipped the square frames on. “Are you open to taking a psych test?”

“For what?”

“It’s just some questions making sure you’re not off your rocker.” Peter typed something. “To start off, what’s your first name?”

“Miguel. Didn’t Mary Jane tell you?”

“Yes she did!” Peter brightly smiled. “That was the first question and you passed.” He clicked around. “Oh and for the record, she prefers to go by MJ.”

“I only do nicknames for people close to me.”

“Noted.”

“Are you actually notating that?”

“Yup.”

Excerpt (MJ video chatting with Peter):

Well hello my gorgeously naked wife.”

She totally forgot about that. She was hardly body shy what with having to quickly change backstage for both modeling and the theatre.

”Morning Pete.” Her smile widened. “Hello, my little spider,” she gushed when the top of Mayday’s head appeared. Her head tilted upwards so one big blue eye was in view. MJ waved. “Did she miss me?”

”She kept crawling to your side of the bed. I think she smelled your scent there the most.”

”Aw.”

”So what’s up? I got Miggy’s message that you two are coming over?”

”We were going to.” MJ bit her lip as she looked over her shoulder towards the bedroom. “But he’s still asleep,” she lowered her voice. “He looks so peaceful right now. I don’t want to wake him up.”

“Hmm. It would be a shame to.”

”He hardly gets good sleep.”

”Yeah.” A leer appeared on Peter’s face. “Must have been that good, MJ.”

She winked at him. “Let’s just say we resolved a lot of tension.”

Peter laughed. “That’s probably the most understated statement of the year.”

She smiled. Peter’s laugh always made her light up inside. “Did you miss me too, tiger?”

”MJ, you’re my forever girl. Of course I did.” Peter’s smile softened. “You miss me?”

”Of course you goof.” She chuckled. “Thanks for the care box, by the way. We still need to use the edible stuff.”

“Oh, please do.” Peter’s smile turned crooked. “There’s an edible thong in Miguel’s size too.”

”You dork.” She laughed. “Bet he’d look drop dead gorgeous in it.”

“Drop dead delicious, you mean.”

Come a Little Closer related: I found these comic pages of Mary Jane Watson and Miguel O’Hara of their childhood environments. I’m hoping to address MJ’s in CaLC more since I’ve covered Miguel’s (and this fic is RoseFang focused but poly). So I thought I’d go ahead and share here what I’m looking at when we get there.

So you got MJ who had an older sibling and then Miguel who is the older sibling trying to comfort the younger (Gabriel). I just think that’s interesting, in terms of how Miguel and MJ’s dynamics are in the story and could be in future works. I imagine what Miguel and MJ knows about the other’s childhoods came from Peter (and also Lyla in Miguel’s case but that would be limited).
