I was messing around with survivor designs and decided I haven’t had the chance to draw anything grotesque in a while..

So I decided on this simplistic, corrupted and damaged design with a mix between the base skin and the monsoon colors

railgunner headcanons feat. void fiend

ok holy shit this is longer than i anticipated and goes through an entire void fiend & railgunner plot idea instead of just headcanons like i wanted to do lmaoooooo

im thinking things atm about railgunner, void fiend, and ror1’s sniper. what if sniper and railgunner are cousins, and sniper is physically way older despite the 2 being chronologically the same age, because time passes differently in the void — if i’m not mistaken.

somehow, railgunner gets captured by the void somewhere between 2025 and 2030 (which would be in her mid-late 20s according to my headcanons), which i’m not entirely sure how to explain beyond “she disappears under mysterious circumstances (actually captured by a little rift in space) and is presumed dead by everyone she knew”

thankfully she had some of her equipment with her, thus allowing her to survive whatever the void decided to put her through. at some point she discovered the void fiend, and i think it’d be neat if one of the commando units on the safe travels (seen as the classes you can play as aren’t any particular individual) was somehow captured while the ship was traveling to petrichor — perhaps even in their sleep.

void fiend thinks they’re having a nightmare at first, but they eventually come to the realization that this is their new reality. seemingly, they had no escape, but when they met railgunner, they felt hope for the first time in what they thought was centuries. outside of the void’s distorted time, it was maybe only a few months.

the voidling’s defeat gives the duo the chance they need to escape. however, railgunner is sent to the beginning of the safe travels’ “rescue” mission, and when everyone else is preparing to leave in the rescue craft, railgunner remembers that she caught a glimpse of something that looked like herself grabbing the void fiend by the hand while fleeing the void — and continues forwards, entering the void to complete the loop and escape *with* the friend she made.

if railgunner hadn’t gone back there, the timeline would find a way to kill the voidling and free her regardless, but she wouldn’t have been able to free the void fiend as well and go deeper, deeper into the void until the two both found freedom.

they ended up back on earth, close to where the safe travels crew was landing, and that was when railgunner discovered something about the cousin (sniper) she was close with — they were dead. they were on the contact light, and they died.

it had been decades since she was last on earth, and everything had changed, but she had barely aged a few years.

railgunner was legally dead (and couldn’t take off her headwear, for fear that others might see what the void did to her face), void fiend was twisted into something that could barely be called human, and neither had any hopes of living a normal life again.

the safe travels crew invited the two to join them, and they agreed enthusiastically.
