So, very interesting episode Firstly the lose end,Alex was from vacuo pre war as many suspected.

Then the merge of Oz and Oscar, many people will be scared by how "quickly" Oscar has merged but remember it has been a good few months by the time RWBY&J get back to vacuo and we don't know when this little chat is happening.

I wonder if Jaunes journal will become significant later, perhaps he'll get inspired by it and know how to trap Salem or something

But I am enjoying it, it brought a tear when JNPR where at that campfire and the art style is still amazing.

Day 6 - The Lancaster Discord

Anyone putting RT's death squarely on Zaslav is pumping themselves with more copium than Go/jo stans. Is Zaslav to blame in some capacity? Sure. But after;

Needing to take a 5 week hiatus in the middle of Volume 8 to 'prevent overworking employees,' just to end up continuing to overwork employees anyway.

Volume 9 taking over 2 years to produce, and exclusive to an entirely different platform for another year (needing to beg fans to not pirate the show).

Struggled to even get Volume 10 greenlit, even with the hashtag movement they again had to beg their fans to do.

Still struggled to get funding for Volume 10 for a year after Volume 9 finished airing, despite an entire videogame (Arrowfell), collabs with Paladins and Smite, as well as four cash grab crossovers with the Justice Leage in two comics & two Direct-to-Video movies.

You'd have to be completely delusional to think that RoosterTeeth was just fine and dandy and had Volume 10 well into production until mean ol' Zaslav came along and killed them like Coyote vs ACME.

I know everyone on Reddit pretty much is already aware but haven’t seen it mentioned too much on tumblr but

A bunch of people have been archiving all of roosterteeths videos including all of ah/fh/screw attack etc videos. This also includes any videos posted to the website, anything that was first members only etc.

There is a good possibility all YouTube videos might go private at some point as Warner bros has a history of doing this with channels they’ve shut down (see Machinima) and we lose access to years of history. The website will also be shutdown.

I've brought up my experience and escape with the Viv cult in Lemoncritques blog but I want to provide a more deep exploration on how and why the parasocial relationship took root.

If Vivziepop never got backlash around the time of the Hazbin Pilot the current fandom wouldn't be in this state.

Its a similar situation with Spoctor. Dude almost had his life ruined because of a conspiracy so barely anyone called him out for his actions and gave him the benefit of the doubt out of pity for what happened. Kinda like a permanent viewpoint of Spoctor being a forever victim. But we all know now that Spoctor is gross.

Vivziepop has the forever victim status plastered onto her and you combine it with making her dreams come true. You would kinda see her as a hero or underdog.

The earliest members in the fandom I can recall didn't have this attachment to Medrano but we were sympathetic at bare minimum at first. Then more bad faith reviews or critiques happened do the fandom began to get protective over Hazbin but it was not to the extent the stans are now.

We get livestreams where we can ask the creator herself about the world. The passion she had for it.

I don't know at what point everything changed from a casual and normal fandom to now. I do have a general timeframe which was when season 1 of Helluva started airing and Ayy Lmao began to make videos.

At some point one of the mods for the Hazbin and Helluva subreddit quit. Not out of drama but they were tired.

The thing about the subreddit after uh Sallie May appeared there was a bit of transphobic nonsense happening in the comments and the mods weren't doing shit.

I left for a while

I eventually came back to find Ayy Lmao was a mod.

And while I may have issues with Ayy Lmao dude is pretty much the only active mod and cleans house and knows when not to engage.

I wish we had more active mods besides him because of him being biased and the power he has in the community is stronger due to mod status.

Like I told someone i was trying to post the Kendoc because i had only found it under Lovesart23 video but it was removed for "causing drama"

I know from the leaked discord dms of Ayy Lmao he was the one to remove my post from a throwaway account i made.

I really don't think Ayy Lmao should basically be the sole mod tbh. Because like if Vivziepop started a blood cult with human sacrifices and I posted a link to a news article about that... That post would be removed.

Like the RWBY reddit. The RWBY fandom has 1 to 1 the exact same problems as the Helluva Boss fandom. But they still somehow have a soul like, they had given Roosterteeth employees honorary mod status but when the workplace abuse within the company was revealed the mods basically kicked out all the employee/removed their honorary mod status I forget which. Ayy Lmao and whatever mods remain would never do that.

Hey anon firstly my condolences to what you went through with that fandom. I sympathize with you and wish you well. I wasn't so clued up on the Ayy Lmao situation as I distanced myself from being too involved with what went on there. Just sharing your ask to put it out there for others to see.

I really just witnessed someone on the r/RWBY Discord server correctly argue that RoosterTeeth has been shit at handling RWBY's production and get absolutely wailed on with the worst reasoning and corporate parasocial bull. I want to pull my hair out.

Oh yeah we've heard some bad things about the RWBY Discord so this does not surprise me in the slightest.

I feel like the original RoosterTeeth model would work better than making everything a subscription.

RoosterTeeth had two levels of membership, free and premium. Premium had access to special content (like Theater Mode, their MST3K) and all of the free content a week early, and special discussion boards (this was way before discord).

The free memberships could still see the basic shows on the regular release date (like Red vs Blue and RWBY), and occasionally special episodes of the premium shows (I think there were 2 or 3 of the Theater Mode movies that were available for free).

So maybe a few of the wider appeal or lower budget shows (Too Many Spirits, Mystery Files, etc) could still be on a free model, but other shows could be bumped up to premium. I could even see the investigation episodes of Ghost Files being free, but the analysis ones being premium, that would drive up more interest in premium memberships. Or maybe half the Puppet History episodes are free, or one or two special ones (like the one about Santa). You can still have ad-click sponsors, even Tumblr has those.

The trick is to make your content look like it's worth $6 a month. Make your audience want it. Give them a taste so they want to come back. If you can get two episodes of a new show for free, you're more likely to justify paying a couple bucks to get the rest of the season since you're hooked.

And then you can do tiers of premium. Crunchyroll has an upper tier I've never touched that gets you a discount in their merch store. You could have that, or have ticket sales for live events open to premium members first. Maybe only premium members can submit stories to Too Many Spirits (can you tell I love that show lol).

Basically, it needs to be sustainable. Everything as a paid subscription won't attract as many new viewers. Even if you only keep 25% of your content in the free tier, it would keep people coming back (anyone else remember when Crunchyroll was an anime sub group and Shippuden was the only free show, and you needed a membership for all others?).

Just don't go the full RoosterTeeth route lmao.

Death Battle Kickstarter campaign

Many people are already familiar with the Web Show "Death Battle," the Internet series that pits two pop culture characters against each other in a researched fight to see who would win

During the years the show has been going it had grew on a lot of people, from those looking for entertainment and epic animations to even veteran Vs. debaters (even though they don't always agree with the results)

The show was first hosted by ScrewAttack until 2019, and kept growing under RoosterTeeth, to the point it has a huge and devoted community, and often popped up in the YouTube trends

However, on May 15, 2024, RoosterTeeth officially closed its doors. Leaving the fate of Death Battle up in the air.

That was until one of the creators the show, Ben Singer, announced that they acquired the rights to the show. Death Battle is now going independent, and to make that happen, they started to raise money through a Kickstarter campaign to fully revive the show...

The campaign had set multiple goals, which each goal securing more episodes, and some even unlocked rewards for those who contribute to the campaign. By the time you're reading this post, there are only two more goals to reach:

hey protip to anyone watching RvB who, like me, benefits from subtitles and/or has a reason to watch the individual vids on youtube: the uploads on the roosterteeth animation channel have pretty good community captions, but you may find the end cards and "hey subscribe for more" bits to be annoying and adding unnecessary watch time

what you gotta do is get the sponsorblock extension for your browser, since its user submission based i went through and tidied up all the filters or added new ones to the best of my ability for a cleaner viewing experience :) note that you'll probs have to enable some filter categories that are not auto-skipped by default. enjoy!
