I mean this with the utmost of respect, but asking the public to fund a streaming service for ONE YouTube channel instead of downsizing (in several aspects), promoting and beefing up the existing patreon, trying YouTube memberships, not having as large of an office in one of the most expensive locations in the country, not having a show where you try extremely expensive things unless you can already afford it when there is currently a cost of living crisis, starting the paywall as an optional avenue for fans as a roll out, etc is a WILD choice.
Everything about this was done in a way that caused maximum offense to the fandom at large. Including international fans, which somehow often seem to be forgotten. This will be a case study going forward on what not to do if you want to maintain goodwill.
As a person who had been supporting the Ghoul Boys for years, from Buzzfeed to Watcher, it is fascinating to see a company say 'Fuck You' to a large portion of their fandom in real time.

Hangmanâs Mystery - J Seresin x Fem! Reader
Pairing: Jake âHangmanâ Seresin x Shy! Fem! Reader
Summary: Jake takes you to meet the crew after claims of him hiding you from them. Youâre extremely shy and arenât a fan of lots of people, making Jake be more protective of you. For once, Rooster knows more about Jakeâs life than the others do.
Warnings: Mentions of anxiety - protective Jake- Fluff!- language.
âAll Iâm saying is itâs a little suspicious.â Payback says, opening his locker up. Jake just rolls his eyes, preparing himself to go through this debate one more time.
âI hate to say this, but I agree with him.â Fanboy pipes in, pulling his flight suit off.
Somehow, the conversations lately always turn back to you. Ever since the flight crew found out Jakeâs been seeing someone and it wasnât a casual hook up, theyâve bugged him about it ever since. It had come up one night at the Hard Deck, when Coyote suggested to a perky blonde, who had been hitting on him, to focus her attention on the southern boy who was playing pool. She eyed Jake up, pleased with what was in her gaze and moved in on him.
Some of the boys gathered around to watch the cocky pilot work his magic. Coyote figured he was doing the pilot a favor since he hadnât been seen with a girl on his arm in a while. Imagine their surprise when Jake took a step away from the grasp on his bicep.
âWhatâs he doing?â Payback questions, looking appalled.
âIs he sick?â Phoenix asked as she finished her beer.
Jake had smiled politely and rejected all advances the girl made, sending her away and going straight to his pool game again.
By the time Rooster came around with a fresh drink, the group scrambled to fill him in on the alien sight they just witnessed.
âHe sent her away.â Phoenix said with a slack jaw.
âLike a poor puppy.â Coyote joked.
Rooster took a swig of his beer, then shrugged like they were idiots. âYeah, he already has a girl.â
âWhat?!â They all exclaimed.
Ever since that night a week ago, Jake was being grilled on it.
As he takes out a fresh shirt to slip on, Jake shakes his head. âCoyote is getting married, and yâall are icing me for having commitment?â
Payback nods. âWell thatâs because we knew of his fiancĂŠe, you have been hiding this girl like a dirty little secret.â
âI think him and Bradshaw are pulling our leg.â Coyote pipes in. âI think he made her up just to fuck with us.â
Jake laughs out loud. âYou are just being ridiculous now.â
Bob, who has been quiet the entire time, âlurkingâ as the crew likes to say, finally uses his smug voice. âLook, Seresin, I get it. I had a fake girlfriend too one time in high school, itâs embarrassing to admit, buddy.â His words make the guys laugh, and Jake shuts his locker with a loud clank. âSheâs not fake! She just doesnât really like hanging out with dick heads like you guys. Sheâs real shy.â He glares.
âWell, Iâll believe it when I see it.â Fanboy states. âYeah, we want to meet her. You bring her to the Hard Deck on Friday night if sheâs real, or else we will never stop bugging you about it.â He says, giving Jake a harsh choice.
His hand runs down his face. âIâll talk to her about it.â
âHeâll talk to her about it, he says.â Coyote scoffs. âOkay Seresin, go talk to your fake girlfriend about it.â
âSheâs not fake!â
~~~~~~~
âBaby?â He calls, walking through your front door. Moving to set his small duffle bag on the counter, he toes off his boots, trying to place where you were in the sea side house. It was oddly quiet, maybe you had your head phones in, oblivious to the world outside.
Down the hall he goes, pushing open your cracked bedroom door. Your scrubs were tossed in the corner, almost making it into the laundry hamper. You lay sprawled in bed, hair out of your braid, asleep in one of Jakeâs t shirts he left at your house and some boxer shorts.
Slowly, he creeps to your side, sitting on the edge of the bed as he strokes your hair. You slowly start to stir, opening your bright eyes to him. A smile creeps up your pink lips, you take a deep breath in and twist to sit up.
âHi.â You grin, happy heâs here.
âYou alright? Itâs only five, you look tired.â His voice was calm, sweet to you as he stroked the under side of your chin with his finger.
You rubbed your eyes. âLong day.â You breathe. âMr. Johnson passed this morning.â
Jakeâs eyes grow heavy with sorrow for you. He knew that this was normal for you because you were an at home nurse and a lot of the time the elderly patients pass. âIâm sorry, honey.â He says, leaning to kiss your forehead.
You lean into his touch. âItâs alright, I should be used to it by now butâŚI donât know, Mr. Johnson was a sweet man, I actually adored his company.â You softly laugh. âBut, thatâs life, Iâll be fine.â
Pushing the covers further off of you, you lean forward and sweetly kiss the man thatâs been in your life for five months. Despite the somewhat short time period, you couldnât imagine life being any different than what it is. Your mother and sister called you crazy for being with an aviator, reminding you that he wonât stay in town forever, that he is quite literally owned by the government and will be wherever he is assigned to. The thought was scary, getting so attached to someone just for him leave when his ship comes in. It made your anxiety tick higher when you thought about it for too long. But, you donât think youâve ever been this in love. Youâll be the first to admit that youâve never been a social butterfly, you were stuck in a shell, hardly bothering to get close to new people. Your handful of friends knew this about you, so it was a surprise when they met Jake and all of his infectious attitude. Somehow, Jake had a way of prying that shell open, his strong hands took you off the shelf and he learned that thereâs a light hearted, good time, girl under all the shy innocence. He loved you for both versions, and it made you love him even more.
You declared that if you could, youâd follow him anywhere.
As he takes a shower, probably using your shampoo, you move to figure out what it is that you wanted to make for dinner.
You turn on some music, cracking a beer open and taking a drink. Soon, the kitchen is full of a delicious scent that Jake smells all the way from the bedroom. He follows the waft, sweatpants low on his hips and a casual tank top over her upper half. Finding you stirring some vegetables, he kisses the side of your head, then snatches the half drank bottle from your hand. This is usually the routine, you can never finish the drink you intend to, so heâs there to finish it for you.
âI want toâŚask you something.â He says, leaning back against the counter.
You hum in question, and he loves the little look you toss him from over your shoulder.
âYou wanna go out on Friday night?â He asks, making you smile. âSure, where do you want to go?â You ask, unsure why he seems off.
âWell, I think since Iâve met your friends, you should meet mine. Letâs go to the Hard Deck with them, honey.â
You immediately stop your movements, anxiety sweeping over you. âJakeâŚI donât knowâŚa barâŚâ
âI met you in a bar.â He reminds with a smug look.
âThat was different.â You turn to face him. âI was dragged there for my sisterâs twenty first birthday and you know I hated it the whole time.â
He smiles at your pointed look. âYes, I know but this will be different. Look, weâll go, say hi, prove you actually exist, then come home and have sex on the couch.â
Your eyes widen. âJake!â You gasp at his bluntness.
âFine, weâll do it in the shower.â
âJust stop talking.â You shake your head, hiding your smile. âThe crew really doesnât think I exist?â
He comes to grips with your waist. âThey think Iâve made you up, like some sad Freshman geekâŚlike iâm Bob or something.â
âWhoâs Bob?â You ask with confusion.
His head dips to your neck. âCome to the bar and youâll figure it out.â He mumbles, inhaling your scent before nipping at your skin. It makes you laugh, desperate to push him away but his strong arms have you locked in.
Something about him could make you forget anything. Sadness, anxiety, tirednessâŚthe veggies that are burning in the skillet.
As his mouth moves up your throat, heâs engulfing you like a starved man. You try to speak before heâs inhaling you deeply, pulling you impossibly closer with his mouth on yours, searing you with a kiss that makes your knees weak.
âJake- baby- mm.â You battle. âOkay, Iâll go with you. Jake- vegetables are charring.â
He finally lets go of you, grinning at your laugh and the way you stumble slightly as he lets you go.
~~
Clammy hands run down your jeans, once, twice, three times before Jake pulls you towards the entrance.
âTheyâre not gonna like me.â You stress.
âTheyâll love you.â He states, wrapping an arm around your waist.
âTheyâll be bored of me in two seconds.â You continue.
âNo they wonât, just breathe, honey.â
Youâre submerged into a room full of talk and music, some rowdy college kids are being thrown out and youâre sure you stepped in a puddle of spilled margarita. Your eyes are wide, and you shift closer into the larger body beside you. Jake leans down to whisper in your ear that itâs calmer in the back.
By the pool table, a group is gathered there and you immediately assume this is the infamous crew.
Phoenix is the first to notice, she smacks Payback and Fanboy, motioning for them to look alive.
âWell well, here he is, the man himself.â Coyote says smugly, setting his pool stick down.
A shorter pilot approaches you. âHow much did he pay you to be here?â He asks, confusing you.
âWhat?â
âJust joking, Iâm Reuben, but everyone calls me Payback, and youâre gorgeous.â He takes your hand in greeting, making your face heat with surprise and embarrassment.
Payback is pushed aside, and replaced by another. âIâm Fanboy, his back seater which means heâd be shit outa luck if he didnât have me saving his ass.â
You shake his hand too, unsure of what to say.
âSo, whatâs your name? Wait, what was the last one, Jake? Abbi? Alison? Sorry, he has a thing for A names. Your name start with an A?â His tone is teasing, but heâs so straightforward, it makes things awkward.
Jakeâs grip tightens on you. âCut it out, Garcia.â He slowly said with a warning look.
Fanboy puts his hands up in defense. âJust trying to get to know this mystery girl you hid from us, Hangman.â He claims, then goes back to your gaze. âWhatâs your name?â
âY/N, itâs nice to meet you.â You say softly, brushing him off.
Youâre introduced to more guys, all who make some sort of snide comment about your relationship with Jake, well, except for Bob who was utterly polite. To your surprise, youâre introduced to Natasha greets you with a hug.
âWell, youâre real and not crazy so thatâs a plus.â She jokes, making you chuckle. âYou want something to drink?â She asks.
âYouâre sweet, thank you. Iâll just take a beer, Iâm not picky.â You say in a grateful tone, she nods, saying sheâll be right back.
Moving in from outside, Rooster makes his appearance.
âI missed the meet and greet? Damn.â He says, making you turn with a grin.
âBradley, hi!â You greet, stepping away from Jakeâs embrace momentarily. Rooster hugs you politely. âHey girly, how are you?â
The crew grows a sour look.
âYou two already know each other?â Coyote asks.
Rooster nods. âI was there when her and Hangman met.â He says so casually.
âBradley and Ashley come over for lunch sometimes.â You add, making the group look at each other.
âDoes no one tell us anything anymore orâŚâ Bob trails off.
The night continues with chatter and worthless bets on pool shots. At no point does your hand leave Jake, whether itâs intertwined with his or on his arm, his back, your finger hooked on his belt loop, anything. It might make you look needy, but itâs something that eases your nerves.
When you do pull away from him with intention of finding the bathroom, he immediately turns when your warmth is gone.
âWhere you goinâ?â He questions.
âThe ladies room, a place you canât follow me in to.â You tease, starting to walk away.
Heâs eyes scan the room, then watch you closely. He doesnât miss the amount of guys that turn to watch you, scanning you up and down, definitely making comments about how good you fit in your jeans.
His paranoia gets the better of him, he marches across the bar to the hallway where the restrooms are. Back leaned against the wall, he waits, standing guard, in his mind, but the pilots call him a puppy.
âMystery girl went and made him a golden retriever.â Payback laughs.
Fanboy nods. âWeâve lost him for good. Whatâs he gonna do when he leaves next month for Po-dunk, Texas- or wherever heâs from?â
They all watch as you and Jake slowly start to walk back to the group. Rooster, who finishes his beer, simply shrugs and leans to line his pool stick up. âHe says heâs gonna take her with him and marry her.â
âWhat?!â
You were just across the room from Bradley, but it felt like you were miles away right now as he pulled his front door open a little wider to reveal Vanessa. She looked completely calm, as if she was supposed to be at his house. Like he hadn't dumped her months ago. She took a step closer, ready to walk right inside, and his stomach lurched.
"Fuck," he groaned, his face heating up with embarrassment as all of the desire he'd just been enjoying started to recede from his body. "What do you want?"
She already got her fucking water bottle back, so he had no idea how she was going to respond, but he was surprised to hear her say, "I wanted to see you."
Bradley blinked at her wordlessly. He had forgotten the details of her face as soon as he'd seen yours for the first time, and now he could barely remember any of the details of the time he'd spent with her at all. It seemed like a completely foreign concept that she was here to see him. "Why?" he blurted out, and she laughed in response.
"We ended things a little rough before you left, and I'll admit I could have handled it a bit better. But I did miss you while you were away. I wanted to show you how much."
She tried to shoulder her way through the door as he said, "Vanessa. I am so confused right now. We broke up."
"Okay, but now that you're back on dry land, we can both come to our senses."
She must have thought her words sounded reasonable, but they were making his skin crawl. He didn't want her at his house. The uncomfortable feeling was creeping in that he associated for so long with being taken advantage of. He wanted her to leave even as she smiled up at him and reached a hand out to let it rest on his chest.
"I did come to my senses, Vanessa. That's why I broke things off," he said, voice dry and raspy. He was terribly uncomfortable, and he was starting to panic when he felt a warmth at his side and a hand wrap around his bicep. Vanessa's eyes went wide as soon as she saw you, and the look on her face was so comical, Bradley almost laughed.
There was no way you didn't hear every word of their conversation, but you just gave him a little squeeze and smiled as you said, "I'm ready for you to come back to the couch now."
"Who is this?" Vanessa snapped with a tone of jealousy, which was rich coming from her. She was looking at you in disgust as Bradley tried to get his thoughts in order. Was it okay to call you his girlfriend? He was debating with himself, but it didn't even matter. You were already responding.Â
"I'm someone who actually cares about Bradley. You must be Vanessa. His ex." Your tone was even, but Vanessa's face started to turn red.
"You've been back for like three days," she muttered in response. "You sure moved on fast."
Bradley pinched the bridge of his nose. "I mentally moved on as soon as we broke up, Vanessa. Months ago. You picked up your water bottle. I've got nothing else for you here."
He was already embarrassed enough, and then she huffed and stomped her foot at him. Had he actually dated this woman? He had, and now you were witness to his mortification as she tossed her hair over her shoulder. "I was going to at least offer to blow you while you thought about where you wanted to take me for dinner tomorrow night, but you can just fuck off, Bradley."
His hand on the door finally sprung to action, and he started pushing it closed as he said, "Goodbye, Vanessa."
"Bye," you said, waving your free hand. You turned so the front of your body was pressed against the front of his as he locked his door once again. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," he grunted in response, because there was really nothing else to say. He'd been daydreaming about this evening for so long, he should have known nothing would go right. "But I wouldn't blame you if you want to go home."
You started to tug on his arms as you shook your head. "The only place I want to go is back to your couch."
"Alright," he replied, cheeks absolutely burning with embarrassment. He couldn't decide if Vanessa was serious or if she just needed to get the last word in, but if she ruined his chances with you, he didn't know what he was going to do.
This time you settled down on the cushion next to him instead of on his lap. This was decidedly not where he thought he would be right now when you had your hands inside his shirt just a few minutes ago. "I'm sorry," he whispered before turning to look at you. "I had no idea she was going to show up. I never anticipated seeing her again, actually." When you reached for his hand in response, he swallowed hard.
"So... you met me through my letter right after you broke up with her?" you asked carefully.
There was no point in denying it. "Yeah. I broke things off shortly before I left home. Then a few weeks into my deployment, I got the first package from you and your kids. And I wasn't lying when I told you it changed everything for the better."
You sighed and kissed his scars, and Bradley's heart skipped around in his chest as you said, "I really had perfect timing, huh?"
"You're not upset?" he asked, holding your hand tighter. He didn't give a single fuck about his entitled ex; he just cared about you.
When you shook your head, your nose brushed along his stubble and the edge of his mustache. "Just annoyed that she tried to make you feel bad while simultaneously trying to get you back. Who does that?"
"Not you," he said easily, and he could feel you smile against his cheek.
"I'm hungry," you told him. "Let's eat pizza together. And then I'd like to get back to where we left off."
He pulled you onto his lap as he dug his phone out of his pocket. "Yeah?" he asked hopefully as you draped your arms around his neck.
"Yeah. You promised me the couch date ages ago, and I want the full experience."
He exhaled the breath he wasn't even aware he had been holding, and then he kissed you and asked, "What kind of pizza do you want, Gorgeous?"
----------------------------
You were not that surprised that Vanessa showed up at Bradley's house. He was handsome and kind, and of course his ex would eventually realize how good she had it before she messed up. But she already had her chance with him, and you noticed right away how his demeanor changed as soon as he opened the door. The sweet way he'd been looking at you since the first time he called you over FaceTime was nothing like the way he looked at her. And now you got to witness how awful she was for yourself.
When there was another knock on the door, you looked up at his face from where you were snuggled up against his bicep holding his hand. He'd been more subdued for the past twenty minutes as you and he actually watched the movie you brought along with you. That was admittedly not something you thought was actually going to happen. But when he looked at you he smiled before leaning in for a kiss.
"That better be dinner this time," you muttered, ready to rocket off the couch if Vanessa dared to come back again.
He chuckled and said, "If it's not pizza, I'm slamming the door and coming right back."
He kissed you softly one last time before standing, and once you confirmed it really was the delivery driver, you went into the kitchen to grab some beers from his refrigerator. You found four different kinds along with another bottle of Prosecco and some seltzers. The kitchen itself was beautiful, and the window overlooked his small yard. You were about to start searching for a bottle opener when Bradley wrapped his arms around you from behind.Â
"I never did take you on a tour of my house," he murmured, rubbing his mustache along your cheek. "Now or after we eat?"
"Bradley," you laughed, and he just held you tighter. The kitchen smelled like pizza, and you could already hear his stomach growling. "You won't make it five more minutes without food."
"You're so right, Gorgeous," he replied, spinning you in his arms so you were facing him. That crooked smile was teasing at his lip as he said, "Thanks for not going home because of earlier. I think I would have been devastated if you left."
He seemed almost relieved as soon as he told you that. "It's going to take more to scare me off than your ex girlfriend, but if she comes back here again, I can't guarantee she'll leave without a black eye. I don't like how she was talking to you." The words were out of your mouth before you could really consider them, but Bradley looked even more relieved as that adorable smile warmed up all of his features. "Besides, this is my couch date. Mine and yours, and nobody else is going to fuck it up."
His smile grew as he pushed you back against the island with his hands on your hips. "I kind of like it when you say bad words," he whispered, his tongue darting out at the corner of his mouth. "Why is that so hot?"
"Because I'm a fucking elementary school teacher," you replied as innocently as you could without laughing, and you were rewarded with a kiss that let you know exactly how hot he thought your potty mouth was. Then he groaned as his stomach started growling louder. "You need to be fed."
He released your lips but tilted your chin up with his fingertips. "Right after dinner and some beers, I'm going to show you around, and then we're going to get right back to kissing."
You shrugged and said, "I kind of figured we'd be kissing while you showed me around."
"That's convenient, since I can't seem to stop." This time he kissed your neck before handing you paper plates. He piled one with two slices of pizza before you told him to stop, and then he piled four on the other plate after taking an enormous bite out of one. "Meet me on the couch?" he asked, patting your butt as you walked away. When you paused to glance back at him, he was still watching you. "I'll be right there," he promised.
You only had to sit on the couch alone for a few seconds, thinking about how badly you wanted him, before he joined you with two opened beers and a roll of paper towels. "Here you go, Baby," he muttered, handing over one of the bottles before dropping down on the couch at your side.Â
You watched his tall, muscular body as he reached for his stacked up plate of pizza slices and let it rest on his thigh before he draped his free arm around your shoulders and took another sip of beer. Somehow everything he did was graceful, but it was the way he turned to you, casually kissed your lips and said, "If you like this pizza place, we can order from there again," before folding a slice in half and devouring it that made you melt a little bit.
Of course you were going to want to order more pizza and have another couch date night. You took a bite, and the food was amazing. Bradley started man-spreading on the couch which made you have to snuggle in against him a little more. And then you were both taking sips from his bottle of beer since yours was on the coffee table, and you didn't want to move away from him to get it. And the movie was all but forgotten as the two of you started ranking the local pizza restaurants as he finished his fourth slice.
"I liked the pizza," you informed him as he reached for the roll of paper towels. "And I even like that you're using paper towels instead of napkins. It's oddly charming."
With a soft groan, he took the nearly empty beer bottle from your hand and set it aside. You squealed as he murmured, "Come here," and scooped you onto his lap before stretching out along the couch with his legs hanging over the arm. You were straddling his waist with your hands resting on his shoulders as he softly said, "I'll get you pizza or Thai food or Salvatore's as much as you want." His eyes were soft and sincere as he looked up at you and said, " I don't care. I love all of it. I love spending time with you."
When you leaned down to kiss him, your knee slipped, and you started laughing as he held you in place with his big hands on your waist before you could end up on the floor. "You're too big for your couch, Bradley."
"I tried to tell that ages ago," he replied, guiding his hand slowly down your thigh until he was pulling you back into place. "Didn't stop me from fantasizing about having you on top of me exactly like this." His cheeks were pink as you leaned in and successfully kissed him this time. "God, Gorgeous," he whispered. "The real thing is just so much better than the emailed version, and that was enough to get me going for months."
"Bradley," you whined softly.
"Say it again," he groaned, hand tightening on your thigh. His head was tipped back, dark gaze glued to your lips as you ran your thumb along his scarred cheek. You'd never been this comfortable around a man before. Even now he wasn't rushing anything, though you both knew what you wanted. He'd been giving you one last chance all evening to pull away if that's what you decided to do after Vanessa stopped by. But your heart was telling you with absolute certainty that this man was a keeper.
Your lips met his scars, and the tip of your tongue grazed along his stubble before you whispered right next to his ear, "Bradley." Immediately you felt one big hand at the small of your back, hot and rough against your bare skin, guiding you flatter against his body.
"Oh hell," he gasped before devouring your mouth. Your fingers tugged on his wavy hair as his hand slid lower until you felt his fingers slip inside the elastic waistband of your leggings. He held you in place and rolled his hips up to meet you as you moaned into his mouth. He was deliciously hard just for you. If you couldn't have all of him soon, you were afraid you might pass out.
You could vaguely hear the sound of the movie playing in the background as you explored every inch of his mustache with your lips. Bradley's entire hand was inside your leggings now, and if he wasn't holding you so tight, you knew you'd be on the floor. With every exploratory grind of your hips, you got wetter. The stretchy fabric of your leggings was thin, and you could feel him through his jeans as he grunted deep at the back of his throat, "Gorgeous. I want you."
"Oh my god." His other hand was inching his sweatshirt up along your body while he sucked on your neck, and it took you longer than it should have to formulate words as the butterflies went wild. "I want you, too." You helped him pull the shirt a little faster over your head, leaving you laying on top of him in your bra practically panting as you said, "Take me to your room."
He smiled before kissing you hard, and then you were in his arms as he stood up. "You want the full tour of the house right now?" he teased, but his smile slipped as soon as you unzipped his jeans while you shook your head.
"Bedroom. The rest can wait."
---------------------------------
Bradley was torn. Part of him wanted to hold you in his arms all night and list off everything he loved about you. The other part wanted you naked and in his bed. He'd never had such strong feelings of love colliding with such strong feelings of lust in his entire lift, and it was honestly a bit disorienting. You were somehow everything he wanted, all wrapped up in one Gorgeous woman. He still couldn't believe you'd stood by his side and let Vanessa know you were with him now, and therefore maybe a third part of him wanted to reward you just for being so good to him.
"Bedroom?" It was a question this time as you kissed him, and he felt your exploring fingers make their way inside his jeans.
"Let's go, Baby."
Bradley had to stop twice on the way, because you were too fucking perfect. You were too perfect not to press up against the wall in the hallway, and it felt too good when your hand found its way inside his briefs. "Shit," he gasped, eyes wide as you touched him, his hands planted on the wall on either side of your head. He kissed you over and over again as your hand wrapped around his cock, and he never wanted this to end.
When he started to toy with your bra straps, you whispered, "Take it off."Â
His cock was held snug in your hand as he undid the clasp at your back and eased the lace away from your chest. You were looking up at him, lips parted like you were trying to gauge his reaction to your body, and he couldn't help but smile as he took in every inch of your tits. "Come on. You know you're Gorgeous. I'm sure you can tell just how much I want you."
When you gave his balls a little squeeze in response, he knew he needed to get you through the doorway and into his room. Your bra fell to the floor as he guided you inside. His desk lamp was glowing, and somehow your body looked even more ethereal bathed in the soft orange light.Â
You glanced around the room even as you let him tuck you against his body, and he kissed the top of your head as you whispered, "I've shamelessly thought about being here with you." Your hands were on his abs again, pushing his tee shirt up his body, and Bradley could feel your furled nipples against his skin as he tugged it over his head. Every time he tried to speak, a needy sound escaped him instead as your hands smoothed along his chest and down his sides. "Oh my god, Bradley," you whined, looking up at him with wide eyes. "I've touched myself, too. Imagining you were with me."
"Fuck," he groaned, the last bit of restraint snapping inside him as soon as you said his name and those sweet, filthy words. Of course he'd been losing his mind over the very same sorts of thoughts, and as his mouth collided with yours, he led you backwards to his bed. You gasped and laughed when you landed on your back, tits bouncing beautifully as you looked up at him in surprise. Then he was on top of you, tasting your nipple, hooking his hand around your thigh as it crept up to his hip.
You were panting his name quietly as he inhaled the scent of your skin and tasted both of your breasts. "You're so soft," he whispered, talking about your skin and your body and your sweet personality. "I can't get enough."
With your fingers in his hair, you were rubbing yourself gently up against him, and it was making him hard beyond belief. He didn't know how much more he could handle before he needed to be inside you, but tasting your skin and teasing every inch of you was something that should be savored.Â
"You don't have to get enough," you whispered. "Not tonight. I already want more."
Bradley's hands were on your leggings, pulling them down along with your underwear. He fought with them for a second, all tangled up with your legs, and then he kissed your giggles away as he ran his rough fingertips along your pussy. When your back arched off the bed, you gasped, and he dragged his middle finger gently along your slit, bucking against your leg at the slick wetness he found there.
You were naked beneath him, reaching for him, telling him you needed his kisses, and it was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen or heard. He tried to take his time, taste you everywhere, but he needed to fuck you more than he needed to breathe. He was dizzy as he stood, jeans halfway down his thighs, cock hanging free from his underwear. Then you sat up in bed, knees bent as you squeezed your legs together and watched him get the rest of the way undressed in awe.
His brain was buzzing as you reached for him, and he took your hand in his, kissing your fingers as he said, "Let me grab the condoms I bought." He walked to his dresser, hands shaking with excitement as he tore into the box, but when he brought one back to the bed and settled in next to you, he noticed you were chewing on your lip.
"Do we really need this?" you asked softly, tapping the wrapper as you kissed him.
Your other hand was wrapped around his cock once again as he grunted, "I don't know, Baby. Do we?"
"Nope." You tossed it across the room, looped your arms around his neck and said, "I want to feel you."
When he eased you onto your back, his cock was nestled against your pussy, and he was completely lost beyond hope. "Yeah, Gorgeous?" he rasped, easing his tip closer to your opening. "You want to feel me?"
You rolled your hips, accepting him into your warmth, and Bradley thrust deep. He felt like the wind had been knocked from his lungs as you wrapped your leg around his thigh and kissed his name against his lips. You welcomed his touch everywhere as he fucked you. Your hands and mouth found his hair and his scarred cheek, like you were made for him. There was no hesitation or uncertainty. Now that he knew every inch of you, he was never going to want anything else.
------------------------------
Bradley's body was big and warm, and you could smell him everywhere. His hands were deliciously rough on your skin even as his touch was gentle and sure. Every sensation was brand new while still making you feel comfortable, as if you and he had been here before. You had in your mind at least. You'd considered so many things when it came to Bradley's body while he was still deployed, but just like his exquisite letters and emails, this was even better in person.
You shivered as he stroked your clit, wrapping your leg around him a little tighter, wanting more. Another steady swipe of his thumb, and you were whining. "You like that," he mused softly, and it wasn't a question. "You want more." Also, not a question. He seemed to know what you wanted and how you'd respond even before you did, and when he pulled your nipple between his lips, your back arched off the bed.
"Oh my god, Bradley," you moaned, looking at his handsome face as he gave you thrust after delicious thrust. "Our texts are going to be filthy after this," you gasped, and the intense look on his face receded a bit as a smile found his lips.
"You're damn right," he grunted before dipping his lips down to kiss you again before finding your shoulder and then your neck. "I can't wait to figure out every single little thing that turns you on. I'm gonna take my time and find all of them."
You believed him implicitly, especially since he was already doing a stellar job of making you slowly lose your mind. When his big hands found your hips, he held you in place and went a little harder as sweat started to bead on his forehead. He watched your face for a reaction, and as soon as your lips parted in a long whimper, his mouth was on yours. You held onto his shoulders as he tasted your tongue and told you that you were the only girl for him. Whispered that you belonged with him.
Soon you were slipping, remembering all of the sweet things he told you, both typed and spoken. "I'm so close," you pleaded, needing him to get you all the way there. It had been so long since someone made you feel this good, and this was the very first time a man ever made you feel this vital to his own happiness. Without prompting, Bradley circled your clit with his thumb as you tasted the bead of sweat on his cheek, and you were done. Your orgasm rocked through you as you cried out his name, and his thrusts slowed to an almost languid pace that just made you get louder and clench around him harder.
"Jesus," he panted, smoothing his hand along your skin as he watched you come apart beneath him. "Fucking gorgeous." Bradley's fingers curled around the back of your neck, and his thumb grazed along your lip as he watched you. His handsome face was flushed, and his movements were jerky as he rasped, "Where do you want me to cum?"
"Anywhere."
A string of desire laced expletives flowed from his lips along with your name. He buried his face in the crook of your neck and fucked you until his hips stopped moving, and you reveled in the warm feeling of being full when he didn't pull out. His body was heavy in a good way, and you dragged your fingers lazily through his hair as he murmured, "Am I hurting you?"
"No," you promised, wrapping your calf tighter around his thigh. "Don't you dare move."
The rumble of his deep chuckle and the scrape of his mustache against your neck made you shiver. "I'm not going anywhere, Gorgeous." You just held him to your body while he stayed inside you and treated your skin to little nips and kisses. But eventually his stomach started growling, and you giggled when he groaned. "I don't even feel self conscious around you," he muttered, reluctantly pulling his body away from yours. "Let's destroy the rest of the extra large pizza together while I show you the rest of my house."
Truly, nothing sounded better to you. Bradley located his discarded shirt on the floor and collected you in his arms before pulling it over your head. Then he tugged his underwear into place while he kissed you, and you led the way back to the couch. You could feel how sticky he'd left you between your thighs, but you didn't immediately do anything about it, because he was grabbing the pizza box from the kitchen and then pulling you down onto his lap on the couch. His chin and forehead were cool and tasted a little salty as you kissed him and snuggled against his body. This was exactly how his couch was supposed to be for the two of you as you basked in the way he made you feel magical just by looking at you.
He held up a piece of pizza with a laugh and let you take a bite before he ate most of it. The movie had ended a while ago, and the menu options were playing softly in the background as you finished your snack together with his warm body cradling yours. "During the house tour, can we visit your shower together?" you asked him, running your fingers through his sparse patch of chest hair and down to his abs. "Before bed?"
"Already on the agenda," he informed you, standing again with you in his arms. He led you around, mostly showing off his piano, and then he took you into his spotlessly clean bathroom. He turned on the shower, and as the water warmed up, he pulled his shirt over your head and left you standing naked in front of him with his arm wrapped around you. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about this all the time," he murmured, running his thumb lazily along your nipple as you pressed your thighs together in need. "But I think about how much I love your face and your voice and the way you make me feel just as much. Maybe more."
"Bradley," you gasped, and he treated you to a needy little grunt that left you reaching for his face. "That's the kind of stuff a boyfriend would say."
His expression didn't change much, but his smile grew wider as he told you, "Well I want to keep saying it. So why not let me?"
"Let you what? Be my boyfriend?" you asked, heart beating a little faster as those familiar butterflies found their way back.
"Yeah, Gorgeous. I'm dying for it. And we've kind of already been doing this thing together for months, right?"
"Right," you agreed, pulling him toward the shower as steam filled the room. He came willingly, an expectant look on his face as you said, "You can be my boyfriend, Bradley."
His lips found yours, and they stayed there for a while.
--------------------------------
Vanessa wanted him to come to his senses, but he already did! HA! He and Gorgeous are like magnets that just want to be touching at all times. Thanks @beyondthesefourwalls
Last Christmas - Bradley Bradshaw
4k of fluff and a little horniness â¤ď¸âđĽ masterlist
summary: Bradley gets a 12-month assignment before he can secure a title with the hot bartender heâs been spending the past few weeks going home with⌠will she still be there waiting next Christmas?
Last year.
âI donât know you guys, itâs just too early to expect anything of her.â Rooster shakes his head with a sigh. Itâs heavy on his mind how soon the holidays are and how few days he actually has left here in San Diego.
Phoenix nods her head sympathetically, while Hangman is more focused rolling his eyes and his aim towards the dart board.
âIt is early, but also in all the years Iâve known you Iâve never seen you obsess over a girl this much.â Phoenix admits.
âJust say heâs whipped, Nix.â Hangman interjects while launching another dart at the board.
âItâs a twelve-month deployment. Iâll be gone for a year.â Rooster has to fight the urge to put his head down on the table to show how utterly defeated he feels, âThatâs a lot for any relationship let alone one thatâs less than two months old and technically doesnât even have a title.â
âYeah, whose fault is that on the title.â Phoenix kicks his shin.
âI could get a girl to wait a year for me.â Hangman smirks, his eyes still never leaving the dart board.
âHangman, you couldnât get a girl to wait a week for you.â Rooster jabs.
âNo, donât get it twisted.â He smirks while tucking the toothpick back between his lips, âI wonât wait a week for anyone, but I could get a girl to wait for me.â
On that disgusting note, Hangman leaves the two of them at the hightop close to the darts in favor of the pool table that has the rest of their group surrounding it.
âSpeak of the devil.â Phoenix teases catching sight of Y/n as she finally leaves the bar with a tray in hand. She stops briefly when a guy asks for a refill and she nods before continuing over to their table.
âWhy do you look like someone kicked a puppy?â She asks with a pout in her lips, she sets down a new beer for each of them and takes their old bottles.
âHangman is an ass.â Rooster defends, glancing to Phoenix for a brief second to remind her to go along with it.
âAwe, do you need me to take away his toys?â She says with a smirk and a squeeze of his bicep before she makes her way back behind the bar still wearing a grin. Itâs a Friday so the bar is busy and theyâre doing their normal routine.
Y/n has been bartending at the hard deck for two months and she's been hooking up with Rooster for nearly two months. Bradley had to chase her for a few weeks before she finally let him take her home and theyâve kept it up ever since.
Sheâs quick witted and isnât afraid to tell anyone off which he likes a lot. Heâs witnessed her ring the bell more times than he can count, but he always notes how smug she is to put a man in his place. Hangman has been on the receiving end of the verbal lashings a couple of times, which had Rooster dragging her home early with a proud grin.
âLet me just say this, the longer you wait to tell her the harder itâll be. Get it over with so you can enjoy the next few days.â Phoenix advises.
âWhat if once I tell her and then itâs done right then and there?â
He panics thinking about the possibility. Itâs why heâs procrastinated telling her since he found out. He knows itâs more than just sex when they hang out, but there haven't been any real serious dates. He knows how she likes her coffee in the morning, and which movies sheâs never seen that he tries to push that night. His weekends off theyâll spend the whole day leading up to her shift together, mostly in bed. Then he takes her to work and the whole group comes out to drink, and he spends the night pretending not to count down the minutes until sheâs off again.
Sheâs very quickly become the entire center of his focus.
âY/n is not like that.â She shakes her head, âYou two are feral for each other, and as much as she loves to tease you, itâs obvious she likes you too.â
Rooster nods, drinking down a few more big gulps of his beer. He catches Y/nâs eyes from behind the bar and she throws him a wink not even faltering while pouring a mixed drink. Eventually he pulls himself out of his mopey mood when they join the rest of the group. Itâs a good distraction from the upcoming deployment. Some of the group will be going with him too, so theyâre trying to enjoy their night too. Last Friday of freedom. He joins for a couple rounds of pool, still nursing the same beer so he can drive later.
âYour girl is making googly eyes at you.â Javy nods his head in the direction of the bar behind him.
Rooster turns to look and catches her eyes and this time itâs his turn to smirk, but Y/n doesnât look away. Her stare calling him over to the vacant stool in front of where she pours.
âHey Sailor.â She greets with a name she calls him frequently, âLong time no see.â
âI saw you half an hour ago.â He smiles, âYou getting lonely over here?â
âI wouldnât necessarily say lonely.â Her cheeks dust pink as she drags out the last word. She walks around to the other side of the bar to bring the drink she had just made.
âDo you have to close tonight?â
âBradley, are you trying to take me home?â She whips around with a grin. Sheâs bantering with him per usual, as if they donât always go home together at this point. And by home, they mean her tiny apartment. Rooster is living on base in the barracks for the time being as it wasnât known how long he would be stationed at Top Gun. Ironically Bradley had been looking at apartments on his phone the last few weeks before he found out about the long-term deployment he would be stuck on.
âIâm always trying to take you home.â He admits.
âWell it must be your lucky day, Sailor. I donât close, Iâm off at eleven.â
Rooster looks down at his watch to see itâs a quarter past ten. He was hoping you didnât close since he knew you were here well before him and the rest of the squad.
âIâll be waiting.â
He gives her a knowing smile, backing away from the bar and she gives him a rare soft look. He returns to the group, knowing that since heâs leaving shortly he needs to hangout with them until itâs actually time to go. He waits until she starts to untie her apron and talking with Penny before he stands and starts his goodbyes.
Y/n makes her way out the back door after bringing some more stock up just in case. Rooster is leaning in the same spot as always, insisting on walking her to her car. She reaches out a hand for him to take but sheâs surprised when they go down the stairs and he tugs her harder in the direction of the bronco.
âWe can get your car tomorrow.â Bradley insists.
âOh, is that so?â She lets him lead her anyway.
âYes maâam. Iâm requiring a car ride because I donât think I can spend another twenty minutes apart.â He leads her right over to the passenger side of the Bronco, swinging the door open for her. Instead of getting in she turns around, trapping herself between him and the car.
âWell, when you put it like that.â She pulls down on the back of his neck so their lips would meet for the first time of the night. She hums in satisfaction and he lets out a groan as she pulls on the curls on the back of his head. They give it a few minutes to get more intense before Bradley is pulling back. Heâs got her pushed against the side of the car, both of them out of breath.
âThis is gonna be a long twenty minutes.â
âDrive fast.â
They both get in the car after that, his hand glued to the top of her bare thigh. Even with Christmas only being a few days away, the air is warm in the sixties. The windows are cracked bringing a welcomed breeze for the two that are too hot to handle in the moment. Rooster keeps glancing to see how swollen her lips are and Y/n canât tear her eyes from his messed up curls.
The first parking spot in sight has Rooster throwing the car in park and they both quickly throw their doors open. He chases her up the stairs when she takes off with a laugh, it only takes a few strides for him to catch her and throw her over his shoulder.
âYouâre telling me all of this muscle has a use, not just for looks?â She asks from behind him, his arm securing her on top of his shoulder. She traces the center line of his back, leaving goosebumps in its wake.
âThe Navy doesnât do âjust for looksâ.â He reminds.
âThatâs right, you are Navy property.â She reaches down to smack his ass, not noticing the pang Bradley felt at the reminder. He is Navy property and thatâs why he has no say over leaving her for a year.
âYeah, we actually need to talk about that.â He bends down to put her feet back on the ground. She didnât even realize they were at her apartment door, but she just stands there with key in hand with her face pale at the serious tone of his voice.
âBradley?â
âLetâs go in to talk about it.â
She doesnât say anything in response, just unlocking her door and leaving it open for him to follow. She makes her way over to the couch and sets her keys and bag down on the coffee table. He sits down next to her, fully aware of the fact that heâs killed whatever high they were both on the whole way home.
âI got official orders for a new deployment.â He blurts.
âOh, okay.â She sighs, âFor how long?â
He gulps audibly which brings back her nerves. He turns fully to face her on the couch before answering her question and you could hear a pin drop with the silence that is met after.
âA year?â Her brows shoot to the top of her forehead in shock. The reality sinking in and he watches a dozen emotions cross her face before she looks up to him again.
âI donât even know the details yet, but from what I know itâs far away and itâs pretty complex. Likely now that Iâve been training pilots at Top Gun, Iâll probably be involved with training too.â
âGod, can you try sucking at your job so they donât take you very long?â She jokes, trying to lighten the mood. She pulls her legs up on the couch to sit cross legged facing him, he reaches out a hand to her knee without a second thought.
âNo, maâam.â He sighs, pushing a strand thatâs escaped her ponytail back behind her ear.
âHow soon do you have to go?â
âMonday.â
âThis Monday?â She shrieks, âThatâs before Christmas!â
âI know.â He pushes his lips together in a straight line to show his own dissatisfaction with it. His fluffy mustache on prominent display.
âYouâre gonna miss Christmas.â She says sadly.
âIâm gonna miss a lot more than that.â
He leans down to peck her lips, but it doesnât wipe the slight pout from her face.
âI like where this was headed.â She interrupts him with a âme tooâ that makes him grin, âBut I canât ask you to wait that long. I wonât be back until next December. I really like you, and I know Iâm gonna spend all that time thinking about you, but-â
âBut what?â She interrupts once again. She pushes the curls back off his forehead and lets her fingers weave through and Bradley has to fight the urge to close his eyes. âWhat if I want to wait?â
This has his eyes opening wider in shock of his own.
âWhat?â
She smirks at his reaction and climbs into his lap, no longer fighting the need to be close to him. Her fingers still running along the sides of his head mindlessly and his hands find her hips.
âWhat. If. I. Wait?â She presses a kiss along his jaw between each word, his fingers digging in a little harder.
âAre you serious?â He leans his head back to get a clear view of her face. She sits back a little so they both can actually focus on the topic at hand.
âBradley, I like you and I guarantee in a year I still will. Does this mean youâre finally gonna make me a girlfriend?â
âGod, please can I?â She nods excitedly and this time he leads the kiss, desperate to hold her as close as physically possible. âWill you be my girlfriend?â
âYes.â She grins widely.
âWill you wait a year for me to come back?â
âYes, baby.â He kisses her like his life depends on it. He likes the new nickname and she can feel just how much he likes it as he hardens under her. âTake me to bed, boyfriend.â
-
The two of them spend all day Saturday in Y/nâs apartment. Not even leaving for food, opting to order delivery and stay in the comfort of the warm bed. Penny gave her Saturday off when she found out about Bradleyâs deployment and how soon it was. Sadly she had no one to cover her Sunday shift so their bubble had to come to an end when Bradley needed new clothes and she had to get ready for work.
They decide to meet at the Hard Deck a couple hours after her shift starts. The entire Dagger Squad makes a Sunday night appearance knowing itâs going to be a long time before theyâre all back together again.
âGod, I didnât think you guys could get worse.â Hangman huffs rolling his eyes. Y/n pulls away from her boyfriend, who she had been leaning across the counter to kiss. Thereâs only one other group tucked away by the window otherwise the squad takes up all of the stools at the bar.
âJust wait and see how insufferable heâs gonna be without me.â Y/n teases, grabbing Jakeâs glass to refill it.
âYeah, leave me and my girlfriend alone.â Rooster joins in, putting an extra emphasis on girlfriend.
âThat sounds so hot.â She grins wider.
âOkay, yeah now Iâm with him.â Phoenix shakes her head agreeing with Hangman.
Itâs safe to say the two of them have been soaking in every last second they can. The bar has been quiet enough with it being a Sunday that the whole group just stayed at the bar so Y/n could still be close by. They didnât know however that it would mean witnessing kisses over the bar and a lot of googly eyes. Penny gave her the all clear to close early if it were slow, so she is all too happy to kick out the squad when they are the only ones left.
Bradley waits for her to finish cleaning up, leaving together hand in hand out the back door to the parking lot.
âWhereâs the Bronco?â She asks, noting the empty parking lot aside from her car.
âI left it on base so we could ride together tomorrow morning.â He clears his throat, âUnless you donât want to take me, I can get Phoenix to-â
âIâll take every minute I can get.â She smiles, pulling him down for a quick kiss as they make their way over to her car. âAs if I would pass up on dropping you off. I was just hoping I was finally gonna drive the Bronco.â
âYeah, maybe next year.â He rolls his eyes, knowing that she knows he doesnât pass off his keys too easily.
-
Knowing she had been working until close at the Hard Deck and he sure as hell didnât let her sleep much, she looks surprisingly awake at 6:00 a.m. She looks more than awake, she looks perfect. Her hair is a mess that he knows a brush hasnât met yet today, but it reminds him of himself pulling on it. The fact that they opted for one more round in bed rather than taking the time to actually get ready.
âWhatâre you looking at?â She teases, catching onto his stare while she looks ahead at the road. They are already on base, he gives her directions when needed for where to drop him off.
âYou.â He admits, âSoaking up every last second I can.â
âYou wonât have to rely too much on your memory, reach in the backseat.â Her all too familiar wicked grin makes an appearance.
He reaches in the back to find a Christmas bag with bright tissue paper sticking out. He cuts her a serious look, they hadnât had time to do presents and figure that out before it was time for him to ship out. He tosses the tissue paper behind him and finds a small four by six tin and opens it to find a picture of Y/n, his dog tags on and nothing else.
âI didnât have enough time to pose for a calendar, so these will have to do.â She laughs, struggling to picture him hanging one up where anyone can see. Y/n is pleased to see how pink his cheeks are turning.
âThis is the best Christmas gift Iâve ever gotten.â He closes the tin without going through all of the pictures inside, opting to pull her in for a quick kiss now that theyâre parked.
âBaby, I didnât get you anything. I wasnât sure what we-â
âCome back to me. In a year, Iâll be right here and youâll be my gift.â She reaches out a hand just to hold his face. Her thumb brushes the edge of his mustache, he turns his head slightly to press a kiss to her thumb.
They get out of the car and Y/n sees a few other couples seemingly doing the same dance of dropping their partners off. Bradley sets down his overstuffed duffle on the ground and backs her into a hug against the car. He pulls her as tight as possible while she runs her nails back and forth on his back. He pulls back to look at her once everyone has gone inside and he knows heâll be the last arrival.
âIâm gonna look so good for you when you get back.â She teases, her arms wrapped around the back of his neck while his hands grip her hips. Sheâs leaning against the hood of her car with him placed between her legs. Itâs not the right height like the bronco, but itâs working plenty fine.
âOh jesus.â Bradley sighs, already creating a picture in his head.
âYou might wanna have the medical team close by, you might go into heart failure.â She presses a hand flat against his firm chest.
âI think thatâs a good idea.â
One more kiss he tells himself, then he can go. Y/n opens her mouth wider to deepen the kiss and Bradley goes one step further by sliding his hands down from her hips to the back of her thighs and pulls her up into his arms. The kiss never breaks, the past few weeks have paid off as practice. She moans into the kiss more and he feels himself harden, he breaks off knowing they canât go any farther if heâs supposed to walk onto a carrier in ten minutes.
âBye, baby.â He plants her feet firmly on the ground again before letting go.
âSee you in a year, Sailor.â
Hours later when heâs on the carrier and heâs already had three different briefings, he finally shuffles through the pictures back in the safety of his room. Heâs still trying to wrap his mind around how she had the time to put this together in time for him to bring them, but damn is he glad.
Next year. Xx
The second picture in the stack has her wrapped up in a stunning red set that heâs dying to unravel. If he had to guess that the real in person sight wouldâve been his gift this year if he wasnât deployed. Next year it is.
-
Waiting a year to see each other in person is easily the hardest thing either of them has had to face. Communication was sketchy at best for Bradley, but he called as often as they would let him. Itâs hard for him to believe theyâve been apart longer than theyâve known each other.
His eyes scan all of the significant others waiting for everyone offloading from the ship. He takes a few steps closer, his duffle heavy in hand. The bright blue of the Bronco is familiar and like a beacon for him towards the back of the group of people, especially when he can see a familiar figure leaning against the front in a red floral dress. He fights the urge to sprint, but thereâs an obvious pep in his quick steps.
âHey, Sailor.â Y/n greets once heâs within earshot.
âIs that my girlfriend?â He asks with a bright grin. This is the first time heâs smiled that wide in nearly a year. He drops his bag at her feet and scoops her up, their lips meet and his hand is protective holding down the bottom of her dress while he spins. Finally, for the first time in nearly a year and itâs somehow better than all the build up that they had been waiting for. Worth the wait.
âThatâs a hell of a welcome.â He huffs, slightly out of breath.
âI havenât even started.â She smirks.
âBoth my girls are here to pick me up?â He asks, looking behind her to the bronco he hasnât seen in just as long. Last time he saw it, it was on base and he left Bob with the keys. He was the only one to be trusted.
âI pulled some strings.â She smiles wildly, âI did debate bringing a boombox to hold up over my head and play Last Christmas.â
He canât help but throw his head back in a laugh.
âAnd why didnât you?â He grins, taking another step closer to box her in against the hood. He needs to remember there are families around because the way she runs her hands up his chest has him ready to mount her then and there.
âTheyâre real heavy, baby.â She gives his arms a good squeeze for emphasis, âIâll leave that for you and all those muscles for our next big gesture.â
âNoted.â
âYou wanna open your gift early?â She asks, taking on her infamously wicked grin. He looks down her chest and can see a hint of red ribbon. It has to be the same set she took pictures in, pictures he became very familiar over the last twelve months. The pictures now well worn, but it doesnât matter now that the real thing is back in his arms.
âGod, I love you.â He sighs into her neck and she chuckles. Itâs the first time sheâs heard the words directly from his lips. Not in an email or the phone, directly from him.
âI love you, too.â She smiles, the soft look in her eyes that he only gets is fully on display, âAm I a bad girlfriend if I say I donât want our first time back together to be special, and Iâd rather you rail me in the car the second weâre out of view?â
âHow fast can you get in the car?â
MORE SMILING CRITTERS FAMILY HEADCANONS WAHOO!! I do apologize in advance as this post will be shorter BUT THERE ARE MORE PICTURES!!!
Bubba Bubbaphant
Bubba Bubbaphant comes from a family deeply rooted in love, passion, and a sense of responsibility towards others. His mother was a botanist, brimming with a profound affection for plants, while his father embarked on adventurous explorations as a researcher. Despite their differing pursuits, they formed a tight-knit family unit where love and care flourished.
Sadly, his mother's life was cut short by a debilitating disease that drained her vitality, leaving an indelible mark on Bubba's heart. Witnessing her struggle ignited in him a fervent desire to become a doctor in the future, driven by the aspiration to alleviate suffering and potentially save lives, just as he had hoped to do for his mother.
But even after the profound loss, the relationship with his father remained strong, as the latter balances his adventurous spirit with unwavering dedication to his family. Despite the demands of his work, he cherishes every moment spent with Bubba, recognizing the importance of being present in his son's life. He carves out moments to spend quality time with him, sharing experiences and imparting valuable knowledge gained from his explorations as the young one shares information about the adventures he has with his friends
Mr. Bubbaphant embodies the essence of a true gentleman, extending kindness and assistance to those in need without hesitation. His demeanor and wisdom reflected the refinement and kindness instilled in his son, earning him a reputation as an absolute gentleman.
Their familial circle extends to Kickin'Chicken´s family, as he is friends with his mother, Clucketta, forging a close friendship between families. Recognizing the demands of parenthood, Mr. Bubbaphant would occasionally assist Clucketta by taking on babysitting duties, providing her with much-needed respite while her husband Rockin´ Rooster is away on his own endeavors.
Through their shared experiences and mutual respect, Bubba learns the value of compassion, friendship, and the importance of standing by those they care about.
BONUS: Kickin´ was the only one of the Smiling Critters who got to know Bubba´s mother before she passed away. And after her loss he made sure to be there to support his friend all the way just like the young elephant had done for him in the past.
Kickin'Chicken (Part ||)
Rockin'Rooster is a renowned singer in the Smiling Critters universe and the father of Kickin' Chicken. Despite his fame, Rockin' spends little time with his family, prioritizing his career over them.
Kickin' idolizes his father, despite his older sister Pecky harboring resentment towards him for his selfishness. Though Rockin' favors Pecky, hoping she'll continue his musical legacy, but she rejects his expectations. Instead, she enjoys music with her friends for fun as she even plays in a band with them, but she doesn't seek for fame or fortune. Rockin' later shifts his attention to Kickin', who adores his father but longs for more family connection. The young boy feels overwhelmed by his many younger siblings, as his father's absence is often filled with new additions to the family. But despite this, Kickin' loves his family deeply.
Clucketta, Kickin's mother, once shared Rockin's passion for music, but she now focuses on supporting her family. She sacrificed her own career as a dancer before moving to Jolly Valley (I still have to think of a name for the town though) in order to live a happy and peaceful life... Despite the family's imperfections. And though she no longer wears her Merry Charm, when she does, she keeps her pendant hidden as it makes her feel nostalgic of the times where she could pursue her passion for dancing.
BONUS: Adult Kickin' design! I like to imagine that he becomes some sort of dancing teacher in the future.
Love in the Air
Pairing:Â Rooster x Female Reader
Summary:Â You weren't expecting anything interesting or exciting to happen on your flight from Virginia to San Diego. But what happens when you decide to shoot your shot with the handsome stranger sitting in front of you on the plane?
Word Count:Â 12.5k
Authorâs Note:Â Thank you so much to my dear friend, @ryebecca for giving me the idea for this one! I've been mulling it over in my brain for a while now, and the super adorable Netflix movie Love at First Sight gave me some much-needed inspiration to finally see it through to completion. This story exists outside of the Mr. & Mrs. Bradshaw Universe, which is sort of a first for me, so I hope you all enjoy!
Warnings:Â Travel anxiety, some very mild angst, discussions of parental death, brief language, lots of fluff.
If you had to rank your preferred modes of transportation, flying would probably be at the bottom of the list, beat only perhaps by public bus or bicycle. It seemed that no matter how hard you tried to make it as smooth and easy a journey as possible, your experiences at the airport always turned into one catastrophe after another.
Your flight this morning was supposed to take off at 9:30am, which meant that you had scheduled the start of your day to ensure that you would be at the airport no later than 7:15, accounting for traffic and long lines at check-in and security. That, of course, meant that you had to leave your best friend, Katieâs house in Fredericksburg at 5:45 on the dot in order to make the sixty-one mile trip to Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, and that was being generous. If the two of you stopped for coffeeâwhich Katie insisted was a mustâthat alone had the potential to derail your plans, which had you nervously fiddling with the bracelet you never took off, the one your dad had given you as a gift for your high school graduation.
âRelax,â Katie laughed, taking her eyes off the road for only a moment to reach out and squeeze your hands reassuringly, halting your anxious movements. âYouâre going to get there with plenty of time to spare. Thereâs literally no one on earth whoâs a more responsible flier than you. Have you ever even come close to missing a flight?â
âNo,â you admitted sheepishly, taking a small sip of your hazelnut iced coffee. It did little to calm your nerves, but it was one of the best iced coffees youâd ever tasted.
âOf course you havenât,â Katie smiled, her eyes back in front of her as she signaled to merge into another lane. âSo just take a deep breath and enjoy all this gorgeous fall foliage. Iâm going to get you there without incident, I promise.â
Katie knew better than pretty much anyone how much flying tended to stress you out. The two of you had been attached at the hip since the first day of kindergarten. Your friendship had survived all the ups and down of adolescence, boy drama, the separation of going to colleges hundreds of miles apart, heartache, loss, and so much more. She was truly the sister you never had, and you couldnât be more grateful to have her in your life. Even now that you were living in San Diego, and Katie and her husband had moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia for Joshâs job, nothing could keep the two of you apart.
Using a little bit of the vacation time youâd accumulated at work, youâd taken a long weekend to fly out and surprise Katie for her and Joshâs housewarming party. It had been months since you had seen your best friend in person, and the two of you had spent the past few days acting like a couple of high schoolers, staying up all night eating junk food and keeping poor Josh awake with your loud and hysterical fits of laughter.
You hadnât realized just how lonely youâd been, all by yourself in San Diego, until youâd witnessed up close how cozy and happy Katieâs life in Virginia was.
It wasnât that you were jealous of Katie, not by any means. She and Josh had met in college, and you were thrilled that your best friend in the whole world had found her person, the one who was going to be there to hold her hand through life and love her through every up and every down. You had even shed a few happy tears when Katie had confided in you this past weekend that she and Josh were finally trying for a baby.
You werenât jealous, but you desperately longed for what she had. While Katie and Josh had been happily in love since sophomore year, your love life had been decidedly marked by one failed relationship after another. The most painful of which had been your last boyfriend, Andrew. That breakup had been what had propelled you to accept the job offer that had taken you to San Diego almost a year ago.
âScrew Andrew!â Katie had told you as sheâd helped you pack up your entire life into a few suitcases and boxes. âYouâre headed to the Hottie Capital of America!â
âI must have missed that moniker on the travel brochures,â you responded dryly, although it was the first time youâd felt the urge to laugh in weeks.
âUm, hello, missy. Itâs literally called âFightertown USA,ââ Katie said, stopping what she was doing to turn and face you, hands on her hips. âYouâre going to end up with some sexy fighter pilot, and I am literally going to wither away with envy,â she giggled, winking at you.
âYeah, right,â you smiled despite yourself, nudging her playfully.
âItâs true,â Katie sighed, feigning dramatics as she draped a hand across her forehead and swooned onto your bed. âI can see it now. Youâre going to make the cutest little Marine or Navy wife.â
And yet, for all of Katieâs confidence, there you were, a whole year later, just as single as you had been when youâd first arrived in Fightertown.
It wasnât to say you were completely on your own. Youâd made some really good friends at work, and you got along with all of your neighbors. Youâd even gone on a few dates with some guys from North Island. But none that ever went anywhere.
Spending the weekend with Katie and Josh, being reminded of just how in love the two of them were, made you wonder if it was ever going to be your turn.
âYou okay?â Katie asked, breaking your silent reverie as she took the exit leading towards the airport in Charlottesville. It wasnât necessarily the closest airport, but it was the only one for today that offered the flight you needed to get back home. âYou seem so quiet.â
âHm? Oh, yeah,â you nodded distractedly, smiling as you took another sip of your iced coffee. âJust a little tired, I guess.â
How could you possibly tell your best friend that seeing her happiness caused an ache inside your chest that hurt like nothing else youâd ever known? You couldnât. It made you feel guilty enough just to admit it to yourself.
âFeeling a little nervous about your flight?â she pressed, reaching for her own iced coffee as the car came to a halt at a red light. âI know itâs long, and you hate connecting flights, but I stuck some Benadryl packets in your bag, if that helps at all. It sucks that you have such a hard time sleeping on planes.â
Smiling, you leaned over and pressed an affectionate kiss to her cheek. What had you ever done to deserve such a good friend? And there you were, lamenting about all the things she had that you didnât.
âYouâre the best,â you told her sincerely, giving her shoulder a small squeeze. âIâm so glad I was able to get down here this weekend.â
Katie beamed brightly, reaching up to squeeze your hand before placing hers back on the steering wheel. âYouâre telling me. It was the best surprise ever. Iâm just sad I canât keep you here longer.â
âIâll be back soon,â you promised, trying to mentally calculate when you might be able to get time off from work again.
âMaybe you can come down for Christmas this year?â Katie suggested hopefully, glancing over at you with her big green eyes.
âMaybe,â you nodded, twisting your bracelet once more as you saw the signs for the airport approaching. âOr maybe I can fly you and Josh out to San Diego.â
âOh, yes! Christmas on the beach? Sounds perfect,â Katie grinned, looking out for the sign for departing flights.
All too soon, Katie was pulling up in front of the Delta terminal where your flight would be taking off in just a few hours.
âSee? Only 7:11! I got you here ahead of your insane schedule, even with the stop for coffee,â your best friend teased, a twinkle in her eye as she indicated the time on the dashboard.
âYeah, yeah,â you waved her off, laughing out loud as she swatted your hand jokingly.
The two of you climbed out of the car to grab your luggage from the trunk. Youâd done your best to pack lightly, which was never an easy task for you, even just for a weekend trip. But somehow, youâd managed to squeeze everything you needed into a carry-on bag. Well, that and a giant duffel that you were claiming was a purse.
âUgh, goodbyes make me crazy,â Katie shook her head, clearly trying to hide the tears that were brimming in her eyes, which caused tears to spring to your eyes as the two of you reached for each other.
âI love you so much,â you told her, squeezing her tightly as she rocked you back and forth in her arms. âIâll call you when I land.â
âText me when you get to your gate,â she said, pulling back and taking your hands in hers. âAnd let me know if there are any cuties on your flight,â she added with a grin, waggling her eyebrows suggestively.
âI doubt Iâm going to bag any cuties looking like this,â you countered sarcastically, indicating the yoga pants and oversized sweatshirt youâd donned that morning, as well as the messy bun youâd thrown your hair into.
âShut up, youâre gorgeous no matter what,â Katie scolded you, swatting you on the butt. âNow get going. We wouldnât want you being late or anything like that,â she joked.
You laughed as well, though your heart ached a bit as you grabbed the handle of your suitcase and began turning towards the doors of the terminal.
âLove you! Talk to you soon!â Katie called out, waving and blowing kisses.
You threw one more wave your best friendâs way, then disappeared inside the terminal, which was already fairly crowded despite the early hour.
As expected, despite the fact that youâd taken pains to get there early and make sure you were on top of everything, the unlucky cloud that seemed to follow you whenever you flew made its appearance once again.
You of course ended up on the slowest moving line at security, only to be heavily questioned by the TSA agent who seemed to be under the impression that you looked nothing like the photo on your driverâs license. Then, when you finally got to the security scanners, you set off the metal detector and had to be publicly groped by another sour-faced TSA agent. As if that wasnât bad enough, your suitcase was ârandomly selectedâ for extra testing and security checks.
Katie may have loved to tease you about it, but this was precisely the reason why you always left as early as you did to get to the airport.
By the time you were finally rolling your suitcase towards your gate, you were feeling more frazzled than ever. Naturally, the gate had changed since your boarding pass had been printed, and now you had to trek halfway across the airport to find the new one.
You wondered what it felt like to be one of those lucky travelers whose gate was right at the center of the terminal, right near all the restaurants and shops. It had never been you. Without fail, no matter where or when you were flying, your gate always ended up being at the farthest corner of the terminal.
When you finally arrived, triple checking that the gate number matched your flight information, you let out a heavy sigh as you grabbed an open seat at the end of the row. To your surprise, you found that you were seated right next to an open outlet. You never got that lucky.
Turns out, you really did never get that lucky. When you plugged your phone in, you found that it wasnât charging. Evidently, the outlet was open because it didnât actually work.
Muttering under your breath, you unplugged your charger and threw it back into your duffel bag. At least your phone was still on 74%. Youâd much prefer to have it fully charged, but this would do until you could charge it on the plane.
Glancing down, you realized that you had missed a text from Katie.
At the gate yet???
Rolling your shoulders back and getting more comfortable in your seat, you opened up the message so that you could send a quick response.
Just got here. Youâd think I was on the No Fly List with how long it took me to get here.
Katie must have made good time getting home, because it wasnât long before your phone was buzzing with another text.
đđđ Get yourself a drink!
Katie, itâs not even 9amâŚ
So? A mimosa then!
You laughed, shaking your head. A mimosa didnât actually sound like such a bad idea right now. Neither did a large iced coffee. But now that youâd finally made it to your gate, you didnât feel like dragging all your stuff with you across the terminal once again. And you didnât feel comfortable leaving your things behind, unattended or even in the care of a stranger. Maybe youâd just order one on the plane.
When your phone buzzed again in your lap, you looked down and saw that it was another text from Katie.
Any cuties to share that mimosa with???
You were about to text her back that right now, the only cuties you could see were an adorable four-year-old and an elderly couple who must have been in their eighties when suddenly, the most gorgeous man you had ever seen in your life appeared, as if out of thin air. You were suddenly glad you didnât have a mimosa or an iced coffee in hand, for you were certain that you would have spit it out in shock upon seeing this guy.
Jaw hanging open and eyes widening, your brain was too fuzzy from lack of sleep to remind you that it was wholly inappropriate and rude to stare.
He truly had to be the hottest man you had ever seen up close in real life. Tall, with broad, thick shoulders and a muscular build. His hair was a golden brown that looked like it was touched frequently by the sunâas did his skin, which was an amusing combination of both tan and pink, as though he should have applied just a pinch more sunscreen than he had. Most surprising of all was the mustache that made your stomach do a strange little flip. You usually werenât all that attracted to facial hair of any sort, and most guys couldnât pull off the mustaches they tried to sport, but this particular mustache was the sexiest thing you had ever seen. And somehow, despite not knowing this man from a hole in the wall, you couldnât imagine him without it. It was like it was a part of his DNA.
Thankfully, he was still staring down at his boarding pass, so he hadnât noticed your intense scrutiny. Coming to your senses, you closed your mouth and quickly averted your gaze, your cheeks growing hot with embarrassment. How mortifying. Imagine if he had looked over and caught you staring at him, gaping like a fish out of water?
Still, despite your self-consciousness at the thought of getting caught, you couldnât help but steal another glance in his direction, this time out of the corner of your eye. He looked even taller this time around. It probably had something to do with the way he carried himself, an easy confidence pouring off him. This man knew he was hot stuff, of that you were sure. But there was also something unassuming about him, something quiet and almost humble. He was dressed in a pair of dark sweatpants and an old UVA T-shirt, nothing fancy or flashy. Somehow, however, he managed to pull it off even better than a three-piece suit.
You were startled out of your observations when your phone buzzed again. It was Katie, emphasizing her last message impatiently.
Do you have some kind of magic powers that I was unaware of to make hotties appear out of nowhere? Right when you texted me, the hottest guy Iâve ever seen walked up to my gate.
âźď¸âźď¸ GO TALK TO HIM!!! âźď¸âźď¸
At the mere suggestion of going to talk to that guy, your stomach erupted into butterflies. Looking up once again, you saw that he had evidently confirmed he was at the right gate, and had settled down in a seat a couple rows over, facing away from you. God, even the back of his head was handsome.
Are you crazy? This guy is seriously the most gorgeous man Iâve ever seen. I look like a homeless lady that wandered in off the street. I am NOT talking to him!
Your phone buzzed angrily a moment later.
Will you shut up before I drive back there to hit you upside the head?! YOU are gorgeous!!! Who cares if you have no make-up on and your hairâs in a messy bun? Itâs called airplane chic! Youâre still completely stunning. He would be LUCKY to have a girl as hot as you want to talk to him!
Chewing your bottom lip, you looked up again, trying not to be obvious as your eyes slowly wandered over the people at your gate, until they landed on him once more. He was on the phone this time, having an animated conversation with whoever was on the other end of the line. Occasionally, he would turn slightly in your direction and you could catch a glimpse of his side profile.
Damn, this man was seriously perfect from every angle.
âAlright, Mav, Iâll see you when I land,â you heard him sayânot that you were trying to eavesdropâbefore he hung up the phone and dropped it back onto his lap.
It was then that you noticed his phone was plugged into the outlet next to his seat.
Maybe this could be your opportunity? You could casually walk over and see if there were any other open outlets near his. Perhaps you could even make a joke about how it was just your luck that the outlet near your seat wasnât working. Maybe heâd laugh and tell you some horror story from his travel experiences and the two of you would end up talking until you exchanged numbers. Maybe there was some tiny, infinitesimal chance that this stunning man would actually be charmed by you and possibly even the teensiest bit interested.
Or maybe you would just remain rooted to your seat, terrified to move as you stared at the back of his head.
You were already anticipating the text from Katie when your phone buzzed once again.
The reason youâre not answering me better be because youâre in the middle of a conversation with Mr. Hottie from your gate!!!
Biting down on your lip, you turned your phone over, not knowing how to tell your best friend that you were too much of a chicken to get out of your seat and approach this guy.
At that moment, however, you were suddenly saved, at least somewhat, when a member of the flight crew announced that they were about to begin boarding. Forgetting about Katieâs texts and the hot guy sitting several feet away from you for a moment, you began gathering together all your belongings, making sure you hadnât forgotten anything.
When your boarding group was called, you did one final sweep around your seat, securing the strap of your duffel bag up on your shoulder and wrapping one hand around the handle of your carry-on before making your way to the line extending from the counter.
As you stepped up behind the elderly couple youâd noticed earlier, your boarding pass slipped out of your hand, floating through the air despite your best attempt to reach for it, and landing somewhere behind you.
Turning to find it, you nearly collided with the tall wall of man behind you, who was bending at the same time to grab it off the floor.
âOh!â you gasped, startled to find that Mr. Hottie, as Katie had dubbed him, was not only standing behind you in line, but was also holding your boarding pass in his hand, glancing down at it.
âSan Diego with a layover in Atlanta, huh?â he grinned, glancing from the boarding pass up to your face. Unsurprisingly, he had a beautiful set of whiskey-colored eyes that made your stomach do the same strange little flip that his mustache had induced. Oh, and up close, the mustache was even sexier.
âOh, um, yeah,â you nodded dumbly, your tongue suddenly feeling like it weighed a thousand pounds as your brain short-circuited and couldnât come up with a single worthwhile thing to say.
âGlad to know Iâm not the only one,â Mr. Hottie went on, holding your boarding pass out to you. âLooks like weâve got a long day of flying ahead of us.â
Mouth hanging open, you slowly reached out and took the boarding pass from him, trying frantically to think of somethingâanythingâto say. He was flying to San Diego, too? You were on the same exact flight? Including the same layover?
âIâIââ
âHey, the line's moving!â someone from the back called out, sounding annoyed.
Turning back over your shoulder, you were mortified to see that the elderly couple in front of you had disappeared and you were, in fact, holding up the line.
âOh, um, Iâm sorry,â you mumbled, ducking your head as you clutched your boarding pass and reached out for your carry-on. âThanks again for grabbing this for me,â you told Mr. Hottie, waving your boarding pass slightly before turning and practically running towards the counter.
With his long stride, he caught up to you in no time, his smile friendly and warm as the two of you joined the line of people waiting to board the airplane.
âYou werenât holding anyone up,â he whispered down to you, as if it was some special secret the two of you were sharing. âI donât know what that guy was in such a rush for. To move from that line to this one? Weâre all getting out of here at the same time.â
You smiled at his words, feeling comforted by his reassurance. Yeah, I guess youâre right. Some people are just always in a hurry.â
The two of you were quiet after that, and you wondered if that would be the end of the conversation. You were casting around for anything else you could talk about when he suddenly asked you, âSo are you leaving home or heading home?â
Your heart fluttered at his question. If he didnât want to keep talking, he wouldnât have asked that, right?
âHeading home,â you told him, fiddling shyly with your bracelet. You laughed softly. âItâs still kind of weird saying that. Iâve only been in San Diego for about eleven months.â
He raised his eyebrow, one corner of his mouth turning up in a smile. âYeah? Well, I know Iâm a little late, but welcome to Fightertown. I hope itâs been treating you well.â
âOh, it has been,â you nodded, making sure to pay attention to when the people in front of you began moving forward. âI take it youâre heading home then, too?â
âI am,â he grinned, shouldering the backpack he was carrying with him. âWell, actually, Iâm kind of leaving home and heading home,â he amended. At your curious look, he explained, âIâm from Virginia originally, but I live in San Diego now. I guess you could say Iâm a transplant, just like you,â he added with a chuckle. âAre you from Virginia, too?â
âNew York, actually,â you told him, as the two of you followed the flow of people towards the plane. âBut my best friend and her husband moved to Fredericksburg recently, so I was spending the weekend with them.â
âAh, thatâs a nice area,â he nodded, rubbing the back of his neck as he glanced down at you with a smile. At your unspoken question, he said, âI was actually down for a reunion weekend at my school. I went to UVA.â
âI gathered,â you replied teasingly, indicating his T-shirt.
Glancing downward, he shook his head and laughed. âAlmost forgot I threw this on when I woke up. Trying to get to the airport on time is a real pain, isnât it?â
âAbsolutely,â you agreed with a laugh, adjusting your hold on your duffel bag. âFlying is definitely one of my least favorite modes of transportation.â
âHmm, I donât know if Iâd say that,â he said in reply, an amused look on his face.
Before you could ask him what was so funny, however, you were being welcomed aboard the plane by the stewardesses, who were all smiling and indicating that they expected you to keep moving down the aisle.
Your heart dropped slightly at the abrupt end to your conversation. Now the two of you were going to go to your separate seats, and heâd probably forget all about you. It was one thing to make idle conversation with a stranger while on line, but you doubted he had any real interest in continuing the conversation beyond that.
Sighing softly, you rolled your suitcase down the aisle, pausing every now and then as the people in front of you put their bags in the overhead bins and got themselves sorted. When you finally reached Row 22, you stopped and looked back at Mr. Hottie with an apologetic smile.
âSorry, this is me. Iâll just be a minute,â you told him, pushing down the handle of your carry-on.
âNo worries, this is me,â he grinned, indicating Row 21. âI even snagged the window seat,â he added with a wink.
Your mouth went dry. He had the window seat of Row 21. You had the window seat of Row 22. He was sitting directly in front of you.
âHere, let me help you with that,â he said, reaching for your carry-on bag and easily hefting it above his head, sliding it into the overhead bin for you. âDo you need me to put this one up there, too?â he asked, pointing towards your duffel bag.
âOh, no, itâs okay,â you shook your head, holding onto the strap of your bag. âIâm going to keep this one with me. Thanks a lot,â you smiled, not even noticing the line of disgruntled people that was beginning to form behind the two of you.
âNo problem,â he smiled, starting to slide into his row with his backpack still on his back. âHave a great flight.â
âYou, too,â you replied, a little sadly, as you crawled into your row, doing your best to ignore the annoyed looks some people were throwing your way.
Needless to say, it was just your luck that the impatient man from the boarding line ended up sitting right beside you. You tried to smile at him, but he just grunted and put his headphones on, completely ignoring you.
Fine by you. Pulling your phone out, you found that you had a whole new series of texts from Katie, demanding to know exactly what was happening.
On the plane now. We should be taking off soon. I talked a little bit to Mr. Hottie. Are you happy?
It didnât take long at all for her to respond. You could imagine that she had been sitting by her phone, waiting eagerly for your message.
Eeeee, yes, very! What did you guys talk about? Are you sitting near each other on the plane? Did you exchange numbers??? Send me a picture!!!
You laughed softly to yourself as you tried your best to answer all the questions your excited friend had asked you.
Just small talk. Heâs actually flying home to San Diego, too. He went to UVA and was there for a reunion weekend. We did not exchange numbers and Iâm not going to be a creepy stalker and take a picture of him, but he actually is sitting in the seat right in front of me.
OMG, ITâS FATE!!! So he has the same layover and everything??? And heâs FROM San Diego?! Babe, this is the guy for you!!! Youâve got to keep talking to him!
How would you suggest I do that? Just tap him on the shoulder and whisper into his ear the whole time?
Itâs only a couple hours to Atlanta, and then youâll have the layover, and then another four and half hours to San Diego. You could practically be engaged by the time you land! Just slip him a little note or something. Give him your number!
Your stomach was doing somersaults at the mere thought. Between the two of you, Katie had always been the more outgoing one. She would have no problem slipping a note with her phone number on it to a complete stranger, putting herself out there for the possibility of rejection and utter humiliation. You, on the other hand, preferred to play it safe. It was much more comfortable that way. And sure, maybe youâd never met your Josh the way Katie had, but at least youâd never been hurt too badly, right?
Unbidden, you thought of Andrew and felt bile rise in your throat.
Luckily, you were saved from having to answer Katie right away when the cabin crew made the announcement that it was time to shut down all electronics. Switching your phone onto airplane mode, you slipped it into the front pocket of your duffel bag and took a deep breath, buckling your seatbelt and closing your eyes.
Takeoff was your least favorite part of any flight. When you were a little girl, your parents used to make funny faces and sing silly songs to distract you from your terror. Even now as an adult who was flying all on her own, you still tried to remember the sound of their voices as the plane began its ascent.
It didnât take too long before you were finally cruising at 18,000 feet and the captain turned off the seatbelt sign. Since you were a Delta SkyMiles member, you got free Wi-Fi on all your flights, so you immediately reached to turn your phone back on to let Katie know you had taken off safely.
As soon as your phone connected with the Wi-Fi, it was instantly flooded with a slew of text messages. A couple were from some of your friends back in San Diego, wishing you a safe and easy flight, but most were from your crazy best friend.
Donât think you can use being on a plane as an excuse not to answer my texts!
I know youâre a SkyMiles member and you can see these messages!
You better answer me!!!
Shaking your head, you quickly tapped out a quick message in response.
Took off safely. Thinking of watching a movie before we land in Atlanta. Youâre crazy and I am not slipping him a note.
Your phone was blessedly quiet for the next several minutes, and part of you hoped that Katie had given up this ridiculous notion. Knowing her as long as you had, however, you should have figured that wouldnât be the case.
Whatâs the worst that could happen? He doesnât answer you? The two of you never talk again? Youâve never seen this guy before in your life, and the chances are good that youâll never see him again after this. So if you put yourself out there and it doesnât work out, who cares? At least you tried. And sure, it might be a little embarrassing at first, but like I said, youâll never have to see him again. But what if you thought about it the other way around? What if it DOES work out? What if this could be the start of something great? Would you really just want to walk away, wondering what could have been and regretting that you didnât take a chance? You deserve to be loved so, so, SO much! And I know that you have so much love to give! This guy would be lucky if you chose him. Just give it a try, will you? For me? Please! You canât see it, but Iâm giving my best puppy dog face right now. And sending you all the best vibes! You can do this! I love you! âĽď¸
You groaned at your best friendâs heartfelt message. How could you possibly say no to that? You knew Katie just wanted the best for you, and she wanted you to be happy. You wanted to be happy, too. What if she was right? What if this was your chance? Would you be a fool to just walk away from it without even trying? Like Katie said, at least if you tried, you could say youâd done all you could. And if it didnât work, then Mr. Hottie just wasnât the one for you. No harm, no foul.
You were starting to feel like you might need to make use of the vomit bag tucked securely in the seat pocket in front of you when the stewardess stopped at your row to offer you all snacks and beverages. You gratefully accepted a can of ginger ale and a packet of pretzels, nibbling on them slowly in an attempt to settle your roiling stomach.
You were being an idiot. There was no reason to be so dramatic about all this. You could write a quick note and pass it up to him, then pretend it had never happened. Seriously, what was the worst that was going to happen? He was going to get up and make an announcement over the loudspeaker that the girl sitting in 22A was a pathetic, lonely loser? You doubted that very much.
Before you could lose your nerve, you reached into the front pocket of your duffel bag and pulled out the pen you always kept there. Turns out, it really did come in handy. Mercifully, the grumpy man beside you was already snoring, so you could write your note in peace without being worried about him seeing what you were doing.
Hand shaking slightly, you penned a quick letter to the handsome, charming man in 21A.
Hi there. I realized in all our talking that I never caught your name. But it might be good to know, seeing how weâre layover buddies and all. Hope youâre enjoying the flight so far.
You signed your name at the bottom, and then took a deep breath, reading over what you had written on the back of your Delta napkin. It sounded impossibly stupid, but youâd come this far and you werenât going to turn back now. What was it that people on the internet were always saying? Something about shooting your shot?
Breathing through your nose to avoid getting sick, you reached out a trembling finger and lightly tapped the broad shoulder that you saw peeking out from the seat in front of you. You suddenly realized that he may have been asleep and panicked at the thought of waking him up, but he shifted immediately at your touch and you could tell that he was turning towards you.
Not wanting to meet his eye, you immediately thrust your napkin into the small open space between your seats and the windows, silently praying that he would take it from you instead of laughing in your face.
A second later, you felt his large fingers brush against yours as he took your little note, shifting in his seat once more so that he was facing front again.
What had you just done? Oh, God, there was still another hour left to go on this flight, then a layover, and another four and half hours to San Diego. True, you would never have to see him again after you landed in California, but that was still a lot of time left to have to be in proximity to him if all of this blew up in your face.
You were just about ready to launch yourself out of one of the emergency exits when you suddenly looked up and realized that there was a small white napkin hovering above your head.
Mr. Hottie in 21A was reaching back with your note in hand. Your stomach plummeted and your face and neck grew warm with shame at the thought of him returning the letter youâd written him, until you noticed the red ink on the back of it.Â
Youâd written your note in black ink.
Slowly reaching out, you took the napkin from his hand, your fingers brushing against each other once more. His were large and warm and calloused and made goosebumps rise on your arm.
Pulse beating rapidly, you turned over the napkin to see the response he had written on the back. His handwriting was a bit messy, more of a scrawl than anything, but it made you smile to look at it.
What was I thinking, not properly introducing myself to my layover buddy? Hope you can forgive me. My name is Bradley. I donât suppose thereâs any chance youâve got some Wi-Fi on this flight, do you? If you do, feel free to text me. We seem to be dangerously low on napkins.
At the bottom, heâd written his cell phone number.
Pressing a hand over your mouth, it took everything in you to swallow back the squeal of delight that rose up your throat. It worked! Katieâs silly plan had actually worked! Oh, she was going to gloat about this forever when you told her.
Beaming brightly, you pulled out your cell phone. As much as you loved her, Katie could wait right now. You had an extremely gorgeous layover buddy to get in touch with.
Typing his number into your cell phone, you opened up a new message and contemplated what to say for a moment.
Layover buddies who both just so happen to have some inflight Wi-Fi? Clearly itâs meant to be.
You hoped the message came across as cute and flirty instead of desperate and weird as you hit send, anxiously waiting to see if he would reply.
It took only a moment before your phone buzzed, Bradleyâs name lighting up your screen.
Layover buddies who both just so happen have some inflight Wi-Fi AND spring for the window seats? Obviously itâs meant to be!
You smiled and were about to think up a reply when another message suddenly came though.
Oh, and to answer your noteâIâm enjoying the flight a lot more now.
The butterflies went crazy in your stomach as you wrote back to him.
Me, too. And thatâs saying a lot, considering the four-year-old behind me hasnât stopped kicking my seat since we boarded.
Bradley only took seconds to reply.
Oof, thatâs rough. If I could switch seats with you, I would. But I have to admit that Iâm very happy that youâre not kicking my seat.
Wouldnât be too sure about that, you sent back teasingly before lightly nudging his seat with your foot.
Hey! I thought we were friends!
Weâll see đ
You and Bradley went back and forth like that for the entire remainder of your flight to Atlanta, the banter light and easy as you teased and joked with each other. You even ended up playing a game of 20 Questions, in which you learned, among other things, that Bradleyâs favorite color was red, he once broke his arm when he was seven years old, and he absolutely despised peas.
As the captain announced that you would soon begin preparing for your final descent, you shot off a quick message to Katie, who you had woefully neglected during your conversation with Bradley.
I owe you one. The pep talk and the plan actually workedâIâm texting Mr. Hottie as we speak! Update you soon. Weâre about to land in Atlanta.
Just as you sent the message off to your friend, another text from Bradley arrived.
Looks like weâre going to have to turn off our phones, layover buddy. Iâll see you when we land. Food? Iâm starving.
Grinning, you had to pinch yourself to check that this wasnât some sort of elaborate dream.
Same. Iâll race you for some french fries.
Youâre on.
When the plane finally landed and the captain turned off the seatbelt sign, everyone practically jumped out of their seats in a mad dash to see who could be the first to get their belongings out of the overhead bins. Since you and Bradley were in the window seats, you took your time, knowing you werenât getting off the plane anytime soon.
You were surprised, however, when he suddenly popped his head over the back of his seat, grinning down at you. âGood thing our next flight doesnât leave for a couple hours yet,â he said, indicating the crowd with a good-natured grin that made your heart melt.
You had almost been starting to think youâd exaggerated just how good-looking he was, but nope. He really was that hot.
âPlenty of time to grab those fries,â you laughed, smiling up at him.
When you and Bradley were finally able to step out into the aisle, he opened the bin above your head and reached for your suitcase.
âLet me take care of this for you,â he said, lowering it to the ground and lifting the handle so that he could wheel it up the aisle.
âOh, you donât have to,â you insisted, not wanting him to think that you expected him to carry your things for you.
âHey, what are layover buddies for?â he winked, leading the way off the plane.
Once the two of you were standing face to face in the middle of the airport terminal, you began to feel a little shy and self-conscious again. It had been easy to talk to Bradley via text, but now that you were gazing up at his handsome face again, you suddenly found yourself getting just as tongue-tied as before.
Bradley seemed to sense your nerves because he smiled warmly at you, his demeanor just as open and friendly as it had been the entire time youâd known him.
âHow about we hunt down those fries?â he suggested, waiting until you smiled and nodded before turning and guiding you towards the main concourse.
The two of you ended up finding a quick and easy little fast food counter, where you ordered a couple burgers, a large order of fries, and some vanilla milkshakes with whipped cream and cherries. As soon as it became clear that Bradley was going to pay for both your meals, you tried to argue and insist on paying your share, but he wouldnât hear it.
âMy mom raised a gentleman, and she would kill me if she thought I was even thinking of letting my layover buddy pay for her lunch,â he told you, winking playfully as he handed his credit card to the employee behind the counter.
You took your suitcase from Bradley as he balanced the tray with your food in his hands, leading you to an empty table towards the end of the concourse.
âYour mom must be very proud of you, Iâm sure,â you grinned, reaching eagerly for a fry and popping it into your mouth. âDid you get to see her while you were in Virginia?â
Bradley smiled, though his eyes suddenly looked a little sad. âYeah. Yeah, you could say that.â
Deciding not to press the matter, you instead turned the attention to his college reunion. That led to the two of you happily swapping stories about your time in college, which landed you on the subject of what you do now.
âA naval aviator? Really? And a TOPGUN graduate? Thatâs very impressive,â you gushed, mentally picturing him in a flight suit. Youâd gone on a couple dates with some naval aviators from North Island, but none as handsome or as charming as Bradley. You suddenly groaned and covered your face with your hand when you remembered what youâd said to him right before boarding the plane. âSo thatâs what you meant when I was saying that flying isnât my favorite mode of transportation,â you murmured, feeling a little embarrassed.
Bradley threw his head back and laughed at that, looking genuinely amused. âHey, I get it. Flying isnât for everybody. Trust me, some days I wish I had just opted for a desk job,â he grinned, his muscles flexing as he stretched in his seat. âBut thereâs nothing quite like it, when youâre the one doing the flying. Maybe one day I can take you up in the air and change your mind.â
He looked across the table at you and held your gaze, and you felt sure in that moment that you would have promised him anything he asked.
âSo whatâs your call sign then?â you asked with a smile, resting your cheek in your hand as you looked into his eyes.
âOh, you know about that, huh?â he chuckled, the tips of his ears turning pink. âWell, uh, they call me Rooster.â
You had a feeling he expected you to laughâmaybe other girls in the past hadâbut you just grinned brightly in response. âI like it,â you said simply. âIt suits you.â
He let out a small breath and smiled in return. âThank you. My dadâs call sign was Goose. So I guess it runs in the family.â
âYour dad is in the Navy, too?â you asked curiously, lifting your milkshake and taking a sip.
Bradley cleared his throat slightly, looking down at his lap. âHe was. He died in a training accident at TOPGUN when I was two.â
You sucked in a breath at your own carelessness and looked across at Bradley with empathy glowing in your eyes. âOh, Bradley,â you murmured softly, reaching out and resting a hand over his. âIâm so sorry.â
âItâs okay,â he replied gently, a small smile on his face as he placed his other hand over yours. âBut thank you.â He was quiet for a moment before he went on. âIt was just me and my mom for a while, back home in Virginia. But she got sick when I was in high school, and she passed away my senior year.â
âBradley,â you breathed out sadly, your heart breaking for him. You winced when you thought of what heâd said before, about seeing his mom while he was in Virginia.
âShe and my dad are buried in my hometown, where I grew up. I go to see them at the cemetery whenever Iâm back in town,â he explained, as if reading your thoughts.
âIâm sure that means a lot to them, and that theyâre smiling down on you always,â you told him sincerely, squeezing his hand lightly.
He smiled up at you, the sadness in his expression lifting slightly. âI like to think so. I think theyâd like you a lot,â he added, then looked away. He suddenly seemed embarrassed.
The two of you sat back, disentangling your hands as you sat in mildly awkward silence for a moment or two.
âWhat about your parents?â Bradley asked, clearly looking for a way to change the subject. âDo they still live in New York?â
It was your turn to look sad now. âWell, we actually have a lot in common, Bradley. Only I guess my story is sort of in reverse. My mom passed away when I was six years old. She got in a car accident on her way home from work. And my dad passed when I was a freshman in college. Lung cancer.â
âShit,â Bradley muttered, shaking his head and running a hand through his hair. âIâm sorry, I shouldnât haveââ
âItâs okay,â you cut him off, placing a reassuring hand on his arm. âYou couldnât have known. And it feels kind of nice talking about it with someone who I know understands. You know what I mean?â
âYeah,â Bradley nodded, his expression serious as his dark eyes rested on your face. âYeah, I do.â
You and Bradley sat in companionable silence as you finished your meals, then checked to see how much time you had before your connecting flight.
âI guess we should start making our way over to the gate,â you suggested, glancing at the time on your phone. You had about ten text messages from Katie, but you were too embarrassed to open them anywhere near Bradley.
Bradley nodded in agreement, wordlessly taking the handle of your suitcase and leading you back across the concourse.
âHey, we got so distracted talking about my job that I never even asked what you do,â he suddenly realized once the two of you were seated at your gate, both your phones charging in a nearby outlet.
âOh, yeah,â you smiled, brushing a loose strand of hair that had escaped your bun behind your ear. âFunny enough, I actually work for the Midway Museum,â you told him, glancing up at him, only to find that he was already gazing down at you.
âNo way! Guess weâre both stuck aboard aircraft carriers for work then,â he chuckled. âWhat do you do?â
âWell, my official title is digital content specialist,â you said, biting down on your lower lip. You felt like it always sounded a bit pretentious. âBasically, I help run the museumâs digital accountsâsocial media, their website, email blasts, things like that. My degree is in marketing and communications, so thatâs basically what I do.â
âThatâs amazing,â Bradley said, and you could tell that he genuinely meant it. Some guys just pretended to be interested in your job as a pretense for trying to get into your pants, but you could tell that Bradley actually cared about what you had to say. He was actually listening. âIs that what brought you out to San Diego?â
âIt is, actually. I had been applying to a few different places, and when I got word from the Midway that they were interested in hiring me, I thought that maybe it was the fresh start I needed,â you confessed.
âHas it been?â Bradley asked quietly.
âI think so,â you nodded slowly, absent-mindedly twisting your bracelet around your wrist. âItâs hard sometimes, being so far away from my best friend, Katieâthe one I was visiting. Sheâs pretty much the only family Iâve got left. But I like the life that Iâm building in San Diego.â
âThatâs good. Iâm glad to hear it,â Bradley smiled, his hand lightly brushing against yours as he shifted in his seat. He looked like he was about to say more when the flight crew called your boarding group.
âLooks like weâre going to be sitting near each other again, 21A,â you teased, glancing down at his boarding pass as the two of you rose and grabbed your phones.
âGlad to hear it, 22A,â he joked in return, holding up his phone and waving it back and forth. âAnd now my phone is fully charged for our trip back to San Diego, so let the texting commence.â
Giggling, you nodded as the two of you walked down the rampway side by side and made your way onto the plane and to your seats without incident. When you got there, however, you saw that there had been some confusion with a young family that looked to have four children under the age of eight. It seemed as though their tickets had gotten split up so that they werenât all sitting next to each other, and the mother was frantic.
âExcuse me, maâam?â Bradley asked, quickly taking stock of the situation. When the woman looked up at him, clearly stressed out and worried he was going to yell at her, he smiled comfortingly. âI was just going to say that, if youâd like, you can have my seat. Iâd be happy to take yours since it looks like itâs next to my friend here anyway. That way, we can all be comfortable and sit with the people we want to sit with.â
âOh, thank you!â the young mother exclaimed, looking ready to hug Bradley. âThank you!â
She and her husband quickly got their children settled, thanking Bradley a few more times for good measure, while he took your carry-on and set it in the overhead bin.
Once you had settled in your window seat, Bradley took the seat beside you, grinning impishly.
âLook at that. Now we donât even need to waste the Wi-Fi,â he murmured, nudging you playfully.
âThings just have a way of working out for us today, donât they?â you laughed, settling your duffel bag at your feet. âIâm just going to send a quick message to Katie, to let her know I made it onto my connecting flight,â you told him, reaching for your phone and quickly opening Katieâs messages so that Bradley wouldnât see them.
âGood idea, I should text Mav,â Bradley said, grabbing his phone out of his pocket. At your confused look, he explained, âMy godfather. Heâs also in the Navy, and he also just so happens to be stationed out in San Diego. Heâs going to pick me up at the airport.â
Nodding, you sent a brief text to your best friend, promising you would call her as soon as you got home, then settled in for the flight and tried to get as comfortable as possible.
As soon as you felt the plane jolt to life and begin taxing towards the runway, your chest grew tight and your grip on yours and Bradleyâs shared armrest started to turn your knuckles white.
âHey,â Bradley said softly, genuine concern in his voice as he glanced over and noticed how on edge you suddenly appeared. âYou alright?â
âIâm fine,â you lied, keeping your gaze fixed straight ahead on the screen in front of you, which was currently playing some Delta commercial that your brain could scarcely register.
âI think your death grip on our armrest would suggest otherwise,â he pressed gently, his tone remaining light and good-humored. âYou trying to take that thing with you?â
Startled, your nervous trance was broken and you glanced down to see what Bradley was talking about. Sure enough, your nails were digging into the armrest so intensely that you wouldnât have been surprised if they left little crescent-shaped marks in their wake.
Letting out a shaky laugh, you looked up at the man beside you ruefully. âOkay, truth be told, I get a little anxious during takeoff,â you confessed, biting your lip in embarrassment. He would probably think that was silly. He was a fighter pilot, after all. His day job involved flying multi-million dollar aircrafts for the military. And here you were, acting like a scaredy cat over a commercial Delta flight.
Bradleyâs eyes crinkled in a way that you found devastatingly charming as he smiled over at you. The look on his face was kind, without a single trace of mocking humor.
âWant to know a secret?â he whispered, leaning in closer to you so that his nose was nearly pressed against your cheek and you could feel his breath on your skin. âSo do I.â
âYouâre kidding,â you scoffed, shooting him a skeptical look. He was probably just trying to be nice. âBut youâre a naval aviator!â
âYeah, but Iâm not the one flying this plane, am I?â he retorted with a lopsided grin. âItâs hard to put the reins in someone elseâs hands. So I understand being nervous. Hell, I still get a little nervous sometimes when Iâm flying an F-18. Just donât tell anyone I said that,â he added, lowering his voice conspiratorially.
âOh, of course not,â you giggled, smiling over at him. Glancing out the window, you realized that his conversation had distracted you so much, you hadnât even noticed that the plane had finished its approach towards the runway and was officially waiting for takeoff.
Some of your nerves returned, and you gripped the armrest once more, but this time, you felt Bradleyâs large, yet gentle fingers close over yours. Surprised, you turned your head sharply and instantly met his gaze. It was direct and disconcertingly open as he looked deeply into your eyes.
âItâs okay,â he assured you in a low voice, squeezing your fingers comfortingly. âWeâre going to be okay.â
âMy parents used to sing to me during takeoff,â you found yourself blurting out suddenly, your cheeks growing warm at the admission. âI can remember my mom doing it when I was a little girl, and my dad used to do it for me even when I was in high school,â you explained shyly, lowering your eyes to your lap.
At that moment, your stomach dropped as the plane suddenly began hurtling forward, seeking enough momentum to become airborne.
You squeezed your eyes shut, trying to recall the sound of your parentsâ voices in order to calm your racing heart. But a new voice suddenly entered the mix as you felt your newfound flying buddy lean across the armrest, his warm body pressing against your side as he sang quietly in your ear.
âYou shake my nerves and you rattle my brainâŚâ
Wait a second. You knew that song. Where did you know that song from?
âToo much love drives a man insane. You broke my will, but what a thrillâŚâ
Yes, you definitely knew that song. It was on one of the records your parents used to play when you were a little girl. Was it Jerry Lee Lewis?
Gasping in recognition, you whisper-sang the next lyric in harmony with BradleyââGoodness gracious, great balls of fire!â
He laughed in delight when you began singing along, squeezing your hand with an affectionate grin. âAnd would you look at that,â he said, nodding towards the window. âWeâre airborne. Wasnât so bad, was it?â
Shocked, you followed his line of vision and were taken aback to see that you were already ascending into the clouds, leaving the city of Atlanta far behind. That had been one of the smoothest takeoff experiences youâd had inâwell, you couldnât even remember how long.
âI barely even noticed!â you exclaimed, focusing your attention back on Bradley. You smiled gratefully, your heart melting at the adorable puppy dog look on his face. âThank you, Bradley.â
You noticed at that moment that he still hadnât let go of your hand, and your pulse began to quicken, but this time for entirely different reasons.
âYouâre welcome,â he murmured in response, his voice low and suddenly husky. It did something to you, that deep, raspy voice of his. âHappy to do it.â He squeezed your hand gently once more, then slowlyâalmost hesitantlyâlet it go.
âI havenât heard that song in the longest time,â you told him, resting back against your seat. âMy parents used to listen to it.â
Bradley smiled slightly. âItâs the one song I can actually remember my dad singing. He loved to sing and play the piano. My mom had tons of home videos of him doing it. But that songâthat song I can actually remember hearing him sing, you know? I was so young when heâwellâI can remember that one. And thatâs why itâs my favorite to sing and play.â
âYou play the piano, too?â you asked, impressed. âWow, a man of many talents.â You nudged him playfully, a big smile on your face.
âIâll have to show you what I can do,â Bradley replied, winking.
Your stomach fluttered at the implication that he might actually want to see you again after today.
âIâd like that,â you admitted, ducking your head shyly. You suddenly felt much more aware of everything around you, particularly every inch of your muscular seatmate. Goodness, he really was huge, wasnât he? Chewing nervously on your bottom lip, you began fidgeting with your bracelet, tugging at it absent-mindedly.
âThatâs a pretty bracelet,â Bradley commented, pointing at it as he watched you twist it back and forth around your wrist. âA gift?â he asked lightly, his tone almost a little too casual.
âMhm,â you nodded, smiling fondly as you gazed down at it. You could still remember the day you opened it. âMy dad bought it for me as a present when I graduated high school. I never take it off.â
âAh,â Bradley nodded, appearing surprisingly relieved. He was quiet for a moment or two, looking like he was mulling over something. Then he turned towards you and asked, âSo, um, is there anybody waiting for you in San Diego? Anyone, uh, special, I mean?â he asked, his cheeks and his ears turning red as he rubbed the back of his neck.
You felt your own skin grow warm in response. Was Bradley asking if you had a boyfriend? And was he embarrassed about it? Just when you thought this man couldnât possibly charm you any more than he already had.
âNot unless you count my neighbor, Mrs. Flores. She really appreciates it when I walk her dog on the weekends,â you told him, your lips twitching as you tried to maintain a straight face.
Caught off guard by your response, Bradley let out a loud laugh, covering his mouth with one hand as he glanced down at you, eyes twinkling.
âIâm sure Mrs. Flores will be very happy to see you back again,â he nodded, tapping his fingers on his tray table.
The two of you sat in silence for a couple minutes until you finally glanced up and said, âI had actually just gotten out of a long-term relationship right before I moved to San Diego. It was kind of the catalyst for why I decided to take the job at the Midway Museum.â
âOh, really?â Bradley asked, eyebrows shooting up. Then he cleared his throat, shaking his head. âI mean, Iâm sorry to hear that. If itâs too personal, we donât have to talk about it.â
âNo, itâs okay,â you sighed, twirling your bracelet a few times as you thought back on your last failed relationship. Surprisingly, it didnât hurt as much as it normally did. Maybe time really did heal all wounds. You took a deep breath before you elaborated. âAndrew and I were together for four years. For a long time, I really thought he was the one. Katie was convinced that he was going to propose on our trip to Greece. It was a dream vacation for me. I had the whole thing planned out for months and months. And I really started to let myself believe that it was going to happen.â
Bradley sat quietly, watching you carefully as he attentively took in every word you uttered.
âWe were in Athens, and I had the whole day plannedâall these tours and museums. But Andrew insisted that he was too tired since we had just traveled from Rhodes, and he begged me to let him stay behind at the hotel. Being the idiot that I am, I thought that maybe he wanted to put the finishing touches on his big proposal. So I went on the tours by myself. But the last tour ended early, so I came back to our hotel room a little sooner than expected.â
Your throat began to tighten as the story continued, the pain of what had happened next eclipsed only by your embarrassment that Bradley would soon know how pitifully your last relationship had ended. Why had you brought all this up?
âIâll spare you all the details, but suffice it to say, I found Andrew in bed with one of the cocktail waitresses from the hotel bar. And to no oneâs surprise, there was no ring and he never had any intention of proposing. So I flew home from Greece minus a boyfriend and with very little remaining of my dignity. Leaving everything behind and starting fresh in San Diego seemed like a really good idea, so when the Midway contacted me, I jumped at the offer. And here I am,â you finished with a self-conscious laugh, shrugging your shoulders awkwardly.
Bradley didnât say anything at first, just continued to stare at you in a way that had you feeling distinctly exposed. Your fingers immediately went to your bracelet once again, nervously fidgeting and waiting for him to say something.
Reaching out, he placed his hand over yours and stilled your movements gently. âFirst of all,â he began slowly, looking directly into your eyes. It seemed as though he was peering directly into your soul. âAndrew is a complete and total loser. If he didnât know what he had in you, then he never deserved you to begin with. Itâs his loss, and trust me, heâll be regretting it for the rest of his life if he has even an ounce of sense.â His thumb brushed lightly against your knuckles, making your legs suddenly feel like Jell-O. âSecond of all, Iâm so sorry. You didnât deserve that, and I hope you know that the way that idiot treated you in no way says anything about you. Iâve only known you for a few hours, but I can see that that guy never deserved you to begin with.â
Feeling bashful, you lowered your head, trying to escape the intensity of Bradleyâs dark eyes. It didnât matter thoughâyou could still feel his gaze.
âYou donât have to say that,â you murmured, not wanting him to think you had just unloaded all of this on him for sympathy points.
âIâm not just saying it,â he insisted, his voice serious. âYouâre a special girl, and you deserve to be with someone who treats you that way.â
Someone like you?
The thought sprang unbidden to your mind, causing you to grow flustered. âThâthank you,â you stammered, worried for half a second that Bradley could actually read your mind.
You were saved from having to make any further comment in that moment when the stewardess suddenly appeared with the food cart, asking you if you wanted any snacks or beverages.
You opted for a Diet Coke and popcorn, while Bradley took a Sprite and a bag of potato chips.
âWhat do you say? A little toast to my new flight buddy?â Bradley suggested teasingly, holding his can of soda out towards you.
You couldnât help but smile, lightly tapping your can against his. âCheers to us,â you laughed, taking a small sip.
âTo us,â Bradley grinned. âYou know,â he went on, after taking a gulp of his Sprite, âif you ever want to think about getting your pilotâs license, Iâd be happy to have you as my wingmanâer, woman.â
You laughed aloud at the notion, shaking your head. âUm, did you already forget about how well I handled takeoff? Iâm not so sure anyone would trust me behind the controls of a plane.â
âI could teach you,â he shot back, waggling his eyebrows until you laughed again. âOr at the very least, take you up for a little joyride. Iâd make sure to keep you safe.â
Your heart warmed at his words, and you found yourself wondering what it would be like to walk through life with this man, to have him be the one you came home to every day.
To have him be the one to make you feel like the most special girl in the world.
âI would like that,â you confessed, pushing your self-consciousness to the side as you looked into his eyes. âI would like that a lot.â
âSo would I,â Bradley replied, his expression earnest.
For the next hour or two, you and Bradley shared some of the snacks youâd packed in your duffel bag and talked about everything and nothing at the same time. You had never felt so instantly at ease with someone who had been a complete and total stranger just a few hours earlier. The fact that he had been in San Diego all this time, right under your nose, and that it had taken a flight home all the way from Virginia for you two to actually meet felt like more than just a coincidence. It felt like this was exactly where you were supposed to be.
At some point, you must have finally succumbed to your exhaustion and fallen asleep because when the captain announced that you were making your final descent into San Diego International Airport, you were lifting your head off Bradleyâs shoulder and blinking in confusion.
âHello there, sleepyhead,â Bradley grinned, wiping a hand down his face and rubbing the sleep out of his own eyes.
âHow long was I asleep?â you asked, stretching your arms over your head. âI never sleep on planes.â
âWell you definitely slept on this one. Iâd say you were probably out for at least an hour and a half,â he told you, running a hand through his hair, which made his sunkissed curls stand on end. âI nodded out, too. Guess we both needed it, huh?â
âYeah, guess so,â you nodded, smiling at him.
By the time you finally deplanedâafter Bradley, of course, had insisted on taking down your carry-on suitcase from the overhead bin and rolling it through the airport for youâyou were growing both eager and anxious with anticipation of what the end of your journey would look like.
You and Bradley technically already had each otherâs phone numbers, so should you say something about getting together? Would that seem too brazen? Should you just text him tomorrow and hope that whatever spark had been ignited during your travels today wouldnât be extinguished by the time you both got home?
All of those thoughts and more were running through your head as you and Bradley took the escalator down to baggage claim and the terminal exit.
âDo you, um, do you have somebody picking you up?â Bradley asked as the two of you stepped off the escalator. He stepped to the side to avoid the flow of the crowd, and you stepped with him. âMrs. Flores perhaps?â he added with a teasing spark in his eye.
âNo,â you giggled, shaking your head. âI was just planning to call an Uber.â
âNo need,â he said, his chest puffing out ever so slightly. âMav and I will give you a ride home. He should actually be here already,â he mumbled, almost to himself, as he pulled his phone out of his pocket and scrolled through his messages.
âOh, you guys donât have to do that. I wouldnât want you going out of your way,â you hurried to tell him, noticing that Bradley still had his hand on the handle of your suitcase.
âWho says it would be going out of our way?â Bradley retorted with that impossibly charming smile of his. âUnless, of course, youâre more comfortable taking an Uber. I donât want to make you feel likeââ
âNo, no, youâre not,â you interrupted, wanting to make it clear to him that you appreciated the offer.
Seemingly at an impasse, the two of you just looked at each other and started laughing.
âI would love a ride, thank you. If itâs not too much trouble,â you told him.
âNever,â Bradley insisted. âBesides, you put up with me all day. I owe you.â
âI could say the same thing,â you grinned, reaching into the front pocket of your duffel bag and pulling out your cell phone. âIn the meantime, I should text Katie and let her know I landed safely and that you havenât abducted me or anything,â you teased jokingly.
Too late, you realized your mistake.
âAh, so you told Katie about me, huh?â Bradley smirked, looking just a tad too pleased with himself. âWhat did you say?â
âOh, um, nothing, just that I made a friend while traveling,â you stammered in humiliation, your cheeks feeling like they were on fire. âIâm just, um, Iâm going to step over there while you get your bag.â
âSure, sure,â he laughed, winking at you as he hurried over to the baggage carousel to search for his suitcase.
âOh my God, how stupid are you?â you muttered to yourself, mentally kicking yourself for your careless words as you sent off a quick message to your best friend to let her know you were alive.
A moment later, she texted you back.
YOU BETTER CALL ME THE MINUTE YOU GET HOME!!! I WANT EVERY. SINGLE. DETAIL!!!
Smiling, you dropped your phone back into your bag and looked up to see Bradley walking towards you, his suitcase in hand.
âReady to head out?â he asked with a smile, watching as you grabbed the handle of your carry-on and did one quick scan to make sure you hadnât dropped anything.
âReady,â you nodded, following him outside to where a slew of Ubers and other cars were waiting to pick up their passengers.
âThereâs Mav,â Bradley told you, pointing with his free hand towards the end of the pick-up line, where a handsome older man with dark hair and an easy smile was waving at you.
âYour godfather drives a Porsche?â you asked, your eyes nearly bugging out of your head at the sight of the vintage car. It was in pristine condition and you were certain it must have cost a small fortune.
âTechnically, itâs his fiancĂŠe, Pennyâs car, but she lets him drive it when heâs been good,â Bradley joked, resting a gentle hand on your back as he guided you through the crowd.
Bradley was quick to embrace his godfather when the two of you finally reached the Porsche, slapping him on the back before stepping back and holding out a hand to you. âMav, Iâd like you to meet my new travel buddy,â he grinned, introducing you by name.
Mav, as Bradley kept calling him, offered you one of those easy smiles as he held out his hand, which you took with a smile of your own.
âAh, so this is the girl from the plane Iâve been hearing so much about,â Mav smirked, shooting a pointed look in his godsonâs direction.
âMav!â Bradley hissed through gritted teeth, his complexion instantly turning pink, even in the shade.
âAh,â you smirked, feeling vindicated from your earlier blunder. âSo you told Mav about me, huh?â you asked, nudging his side. âWhat did you say?â you teased, tossing back his question from before.
âOh, he said plenty,â Mav jumped in, clearly enjoying watching Bradley squirm as he opened the passenger side door for you.
âDonât listen to him. Heâs crazy. All those Gs heâs always pulling have finally gone to his head,â Bradley protested, although he was smiling as he said it.
âOh, I think Iâm going to enjoy this car ride very much,â you giggled, winking at Bradley as you slid into your seat.
âPromise youâll still like me by the time we get home?â Bradley whispered, leaning in close as he climbed in beside you.
You grinned up at him, thinking about how, for the first time in a long time, you didnât feel so alone. San Diego suddenly felt much more like home than it ever had.
âPromise.â
The One I Want: Part 16
Jake Seresin x plus size!reader
Summary: You're new in town and some guy named Jake is about to be your roommate. Being skeptical of new people keeps you lonely and uninterested in any entanglements, but Jake is desperate to change that.
Warnings: a little smut
Words: 1500
The One I Want Masterlist / Main Masterlist / Tag List
âI canât tell you much,â Jake had told you, but you knew that. âWeâre not a hundred percent in the clear, but itâs looking like four weeks, maybe five.â
âBeats fifteen,â youâd said, hearing a rewarding chuckle in return.Â
You were thankful no one could witness the mess you were at that moment, your face-splitting grin heavily contrasting the puffiness of your eyes from tears. But that was just the beginning of weeks of inner turmoil.Â
For forty-eight days, your stomach has swirled a storm thatâs consistently had you on the edge of nausea, whether from anxiety regarding his safety or butterflies at the thought of Jake returning. You miss him, more than you thought yourself willing to, and regardless of what he told you, nothing guarantees he will walk through the door of your apartment. And if he doesnât, you know exactly what will happen to you. Youâll crumble into unsalvageable pieces, and no oneânot Millie, not Rooster, not anyone who has been kind to you over the last monthsâwill be able to put you back together.Â
And then what? Your only choice will be to leave. Start anew. Twelfth new place. Except this time, youâll be more numb, less human, less operable on a daily basis. Itâll be like waking from a dream to a gray environment. You fear nature will lose its color, and you will lose your light once again.
â
Itâs another week before your phone rings with a name other than Millieâs plastered across the screen. Unknown Number, but the first three digits are recognizable, matching those of the number Jake has been using to call you with. What you hear on the other end of the line, however, is not Jake, but instead, a gruff voice asking you to confirm your identity.Â
âYes,â you answer. âThatâs me.â
The man clears his throat. âYou are the emergency contact for Lieutenant Jake Seresin. Weâd like you to come down to our medical facility as soon as possible,â he says before providing you directions.
You drop your phone, and then youâre running. Running to his truck, running from his truck to base, running through halls until you find someone willing to lead you to him. Youâre so terrified, your arms jittery, legs barely functioning from the panic of Jakeâs pending fate, so overwhelmed by nerves that when you finally do see him, it pisses you off.Â
That man with the voice that imbued you with dread is on your shit list for life. Maybe next time, he could lead an emergency contact call with Heâs fine or Donât worry, because his implication was severe enough that you feared lost limbs or damaged brain functioning. But there Jake is, not in a coma or with some life-threatening injury, but sitting on the edge of a bed in a room with his back to you as a nurse seals a strip of medical tape across a small patch of shaved hair on the side of his head. Â
When sheâs done with her work, she smiles at Jake and nods at something he says before walking out of the room. She jumps at the unexpected figure lingering just outside the door, and then realization dawns.Â
âOh, you must be the girlfriend,â she says. âYouâre welcome to go on in.â
So you do, cautiously easing into the room, hoping that when he turns, his face wonât be covered in slashes and bruisesâa sight youâre not sure you can handle with strength and maturity. Youâd love him all the same, but to see him in such pain would take you to your knees. But again, heâs fine. Beautiful as ever. Not a mark on him that you can see save for the one on the mend.Â
Jakeâs face brightens at the sight of you; he practically glows, and youâre shocked to discover yourself not running into his arms. Youâre frozen for a moment as you take him in. Itâs a quick momentâa brief second to recoverâbut then youâre stepping to him, your eyes watering, your bottom lip quivering, your fingers reaching up to brush over the stark white tape. Youâre careful with your feathery touch, relieved to see that his injury is not so sensitive as to make him wince.
Jakeâs arms wrap around your waist. His eyes do not break from your face. Heâs patient as you scan him once more for visible injuries, verifying for your own sake.
âItâs just the one,â he tells you, his voice soft and only a few notes above a whisper. Your eyes snap to his. He lifts his hand to cup your cheek, thumb stroking your cheekbone. âCome here, beautiful.â
You melt when his lips gently touch yours, but the kiss doesnât last long as innocent. Thereâs bites and sucking and giving and taking, and itâs perfect in its semi-sloppy neediness. Voices passing by the door is what breaks the two of you apart. Jake lightly groans before he chuckles and rests his forehead against yours.Â
âI missed you,â he says. He places another quick peck on your lips. âI want to take you home.â
âThen take me home.â
â
âJ-Jake!â
You feel his mouth curve against your core before he licks another stripe right through you, tongue like a heated blade slicing you in two halves, spreading you open and baring you inside and out. Youâre completely goneâlost in the sole way youâre willing to be lostâas Jake tethers you to this earth. Heâs the only one you trust to ground you while simultaneously letting your head float amongst the clouds.Â
His arms curl around the thickness of your thighs, locking onto you and keeping your hips steady atop the mattress as he devours and tastes and sucks and licks some more. Â
âCome on, beautiful,â he mumbles into your folds, just loud enough for you to hear through the rush of blood in your ears. âLet me have it.â
As if you could hold it back.Â
Your whole body jerks and writhes as you sink into pleasure, back arching, head digging into the pillow. Jake reaches a hand up to intertwine your fingers and you squeeze them tightly while he continues to kiss folds and brush his nose against the overstimulated bud.
âThere we go,â he coos until your body calms.
Jake crawls onto the bed, lips and tongue traveling up the soft flesh of your stomach, between the valley of your breasts, into the dip in your throat before he kisses you, demanding you taste everything you just gave him.Â
Jake introduced you to your taste during those weeks before his deployment. His head lived between your legs. He showed you how to perch perfectly on his face, encouraging you through your concerns of suffocating him. He begged you to relax when he backed you up against the wall, slipped your pants off, knelt, and tossed your leg over his shoulder as he dove in. And after each success of making you crumble to pieces, he sealed his lips to yours and pushed his tongue into your mouth.Â
You know your taste as well as you know his, and on the occasions he spills down your throat before he returns the favor, you get the satisfaction of the combination on your tongueâa mixture more intoxicating than an alcoholic binge.Â
âIâm never going to want anything like I want you,â he says after he slips inside of you, the intensity of the love in his eyes penetrating your soul.
âThen it's good that Iâm yours,â you whisper back.
Thrusts that were paced and steady and gentle falter. With your words comes a sharp rut of his hipsâunexpected to you bothâthat hits hard, deep. Jake chokes on the air in his lungs, his eyes snapping shut as you cry out.Â
âFuckâ hisses through the grit of his teeth. Then he finds his pace again.Â
His head falls to your neck. Nibbles make you gasp, and the image of examining claiming bruises in the mirror first thing come morning causes your walls to clench around the veiny column moving in and out of you. Your fingers fist into his hair. Nails dig into the toned muscle of his ass.Â
âI do love you, Jake,â you say.Â
He stops completely, but you donât question it. The fingers in his hair loosen and you lightly scrape your nails along his scalp, down to the base of his neck, then back up into blond locks. Turning your head, you stamp a tender kiss onto his temple.Â
Jake doesnât say a thing. He doesnât look at you. His thick breaths burn the delicate skin just under your ear. When he begins to move, heâs slow, taking his time before he picks up, working to nudge that special spot inside of you that tightens a white-hot coil in your belly.Â
âI love you so much, beautiful,â he whispers.
Bradley finds himself watching you more than mingling as the baby shower progresses. The room is full of joyful chatter, gifts wrapped in pastel paper, and the aroma of vanilla and lavender candles, but his focus is locked on you. Youâre at the center of the room with your sister, your head bent close to hers as you laugh over something only the two of you understand.Â
Itâs in moments like these that he sees another side of youâyour gentle, nurturing side that glows as you rest a hand over your sisterâs belly, feeling a slight kick beneath your fingertips. The look on your face as you speak to your sister, the way you beam at her when she talks about her baby, stirs something unexpected in Bradley.Â
Heâd never thought much about the specifics of starting a family, assuming the two of you would get there whenever you were ready, but seeing you this way, so tender and at ease, starts planting a longing he hadnât realized heâd been carrying.Â
Youâd be such a good mom, he thinks, warmth spreading through his chest. He wonders what it would be like to see you like this every day, to have his hand over your stomach, feeling his child kick beneath your skin.
His heart beats a little faster when someone places a babyâa friend's newborn sonâinto your arms. He watches the way your smile softens as you hold the baby close, rocking him gently with the kind of ease that only comes naturally. Bradley feels a pang of longing seeing the babyâs tiny hand curl around your thumb as if the child senses the comfort of your touch. The sight is overwhelming, filling him with the kind of ache that only grows the longer he watches. The idea of you, cradling yours and his baby in your arms, swells in his mind, vivid and powerful.
His eyes follow you around the room as you move from guest to guest, still holding the baby, the two of you looking so natural together that he canât help but smile. Itâs a feeling thatâs both new and yet feels like itâs always been there, lingering beneath the surface.Â
The image of you, pregnant and glowing, keeps replaying in his mind, and he finds himself thinking about what it would be like to share that journey with youâto see you carrying his child, to witness you transform, glowing in a way only motherhood can bring.
He takes a deep breath, overwhelmed by how much he wants this, how right it feels. Heâs always known he wanted a life with you, but today, heâs starting to see what that life might actually look like.Â
The thought is so consuming that even after the shower ends, as you both climb into the car, heâs still quiet, his mind buzzing with images of a future thatâs suddenly so clear, so real, itâs almost tangible.
Later that evening youâre both unwinding in the soft glow of evening, the living room filled with the quiet comfort of just being together. Youâre nestled against Bradley on the couch, his arm draped around you, fingers tracing small circles along your shoulder as you lay your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeatâa familiar rhythm that always brings you a sense of peace. Itâs the kind of evening you both cherish, just the two of you, cocooned in each otherâs warmth and laughter, away from the noise of the outside world.
Bradley shifts slightly, bringing his hand down to rest against your stomach, his touch lingering there with a tenderness that makes you smile. You look up at him, noticing the thoughtful expression on his face, and give him a curious smile.Â
âWhatâs going on in that head of yours, Bradshaw?â you tease, nudging him lightly.
He gives a small, almost shy smile, his hand still resting on your stomach as his thumb brushes back and forth.Â
âJust⌠thinking,â he murmurs, his voice soft and warm.Â
His eyes lift to meet yours, and thereâs a look in them you recognizeâlove, yes, but something deeper, a yearning that feels almost tangible.Â
His hand presses just a little more firmly against your stomach, his gaze softening as he whispers, âI was just thinking⌠about what it would be like if you were pregnant.â
The words settle between you, and thereâs an undeniable spark in his eyes that sends a thrill through you. You reach up, brushing a hand through his hair and giving him an affectionate smile.Â
âYeah?â you say softly, your own heart beginning to race as you take in the gentle, almost reverent way heâs looking at you.
He nods, his hand still resting on your stomach, and you can see how the thought has stirred something in him, his gaze becoming more intense.Â
âYouâd be so beautiful,â he whispers, a note of awe in his voice. âThe idea of seeing you with a bump, knowing our baby is growing there, it⌠it makes me want this with you, more than anything.â
Your fingers lace through his, encouraging him as he inches closer, his other hand gently caressing your cheek. In that moment, the love and anticipation shared between you feels almost electric, filling the room as you nod, letting him know just how much you want this, too.
âThen letâs make it happen,â you whisper, and the words seem to ignite something in Bradley.Â
He smiles, leaning down to kiss you softly at first, and then with a deeper intensity as he gathers you in his arms. Effortlessly, he lifts you from the couch, holding you close as he carries you to the bedroom, the unspoken promise shared between you filling the air.
Bradley lays you down on the bed with such gentleness, as though heâs savoring each moment with you. His gaze is fixed on you, dark with desire yet tender, filled with love that makes your heart flutter.Â
Slowly, he leans down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead, then another to your lips, lingering as his hands begin to move down, taking their time as they slip beneath the fabric of your shirt. With a slow, deliberate motion, he pulls your shirt up and over your head, his eyes roaming over you with unspoken admiration.Â
He trails kisses down your neck, his hands finding the bare skin of your waist, thumbs brushing lightly as if already imagining what it would feel like when itâs rounded, growing with the life youâll share. "
Youâll look so beautiful, you know that?" he murmurs, his voice thick with emotion. âI can already picture it, that glow youâll have⌠knowing I put our baby there.â
He moves lower, pressing his lips to your collarbone, his hands warm and steady as he slides them down your sides, slowly undressing you piece by piece, each movement filled with reverence. His lips follow the path of his hands, planting gentle kisses along your skin, exploring every inch as though heâs memorizing it.Â
He whispers in awe, âI can already see it⌠the way youâll look carrying a part of us. I donât think Iâve ever wanted anything more.â The soft pressure of his mouth reaches your stomach, and he pauses there, pressing his palm lightly against it. âJust thinking about you like thatâŚâ he trails off, his words coming out as a whisper.Â
His hands hold you with such gentle strength, grounding you in his touch as he leans up, his eyes meeting yours with a spark that leaves you breathless.
He brushes his lips over yours once more, his hand never leaving your waist.Â
âI want this,â he murmurs, his voice rough and sincere. âYou, me, a family. And tonight⌠I want to start making that happen.â His words, filled with promise, bring an overwhelming sense of warmth as he draws you close again, his movements slow and intimate, his touch conveying everything words canât.
Bradley's lips capture yours again, slow and tender, as if he's savoring every second of this moment. His hands slide up, tracing the curve of your waist, then down, leaving a warm trail that feels like itâs lingering in your skin. His touch is reverent, his kisses unhurried, and the intimacy between you fills the room, making every breath feel thicker, every heartbeat more profound.
He kisses a line along your jaw, then down your neck, his lips trailing lower with purpose, each kiss more heated than the last. When he reaches your stomach again, he pauses, his fingertips brushing over the skin in a way that sends chills through you.
âI love the idea of you like this,â he murmurs softly, as though the thought itself is a secret meant only for you. âI want everyone to know you're carrying something so⌠so perfectly ours.â
The sincerity in his voice stirs something deep inside you, and as his gaze locks with yours, you feel his love in its purest formâunfiltered, vulnerable, and full of longing. He leans down once more, kissing your stomach like itâs a promise, and his hands move with careful, deliberate motions, undressing you fully until there's nothing between you.
His lips travel back up, tasting, exploring, leaving no part of you untouched, as if heâs determined to make this moment last. With each whispered thoughtââYouâre going to be the most beautiful mother,â âI love you more than anythingââhe draws you in further, making you feel as if nothing in the world could compare to this closeness, this connection.
Finally, his hands rest on either side of your face, thumbs brushing softly along your cheekbones as he meets your eyes. âAre you ready?â he asks, his voice a mixture of tenderness and anticipation, and the way he looks at you makes your heart race.
His fingers lace through yours, and he presses your hands down into the sheets gently, anchoring you as he continues to kiss you slowly, purposefully. His eyes, filled with both warmth and intensity, never leave yours, as if heâs trying to memorize every reaction, every part of this moment with you.
He slowly starts to push into you. You immediately feel the stretch as he slides himself further and further into you. He moves slowly, pressing kisses to your shoulder as he tries to be gentle with you.Â
But itâs taking everything in him not to move faster so he can fill you with his cum as fast as possible. Once heâs all the way in he stills for a moment, and his free hand finds its way back to your stomach, tracing gentles circles, as if envisioning what heâs hoping to creat with you.
He lets out a soft, husky chuckle, his breath hot against your ear. âI canât stop thinking about it⌠you, with that glow, looking so incredible, knowing thereâs a part of us growing right here,â he murmurs, his hand pressing tenderly over your stomach.
You smile, caught up in his words, feeling the sincerity in each one. âYou really want this, huh?â You whisper more a statement than a question, your voice soft with wonder.
He looks at you, his eyes tender but filled with longing. âMore than anything,â he says. âI want everything with you. I want every moment, every memory⌠every dream.âÂ
His lips brush yours again, sending shivers through you as he deepens the kiss, his desire tangible, wrapping you both in its warmth.
âThen give it to me, babe. Put a baby in me, Bradley.â
You hear his breath hitch in his throat before he slides out and then thrusts into you. His forehead is pressed to yours, his breath warm and ragged as his hips begin to quicken their pace.
âFuck, baby,â he groans as his hips drive into you with a little more urgency now.
He lets go of your hands and your nails move down his back, grasping at him, needing him closer, deeper, as if you canât get enough of him. He grunts at the feeling, his muscles tightening under your nails and fingertips. But it only drives him harder, his hips pushing harder against yours.
Bradleyâs touch is everywhereâhands caressing, fingers threading through yours, his lips trailing soft kisses over your skin.Â
You feel your body nearing the edge, every sensation heightened as he leans close, his mouth brushing your ear, whispering softly, âIâve got you, baby. Just let go for me.âÂ
His words, filled with such desire and love, send you over the edge, your entire body shivering as he holds you through it, grounding you with his warmth. Moments later, you feel him shudder, his grip tightening as he follows you, his breathing ragged, his lips finding yours in a tender kiss that seals the moment.
Afterward, Bradley wraps his arms around you, holding you close as your breaths gradually slow together. His hands move gently, tracing soft circles along your back and shoulders, grounding you in his embrace.Â
He presses a soft kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering there as he whispers, âYou okay, sweetheart?â His voice is low and tender, full of love and care.
You nod, a soft smile spreading across your lips as you melt into his warmth. âIâm perfect,â you murmur, running your fingers lazily along his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath your touch.
Bradley continues to hold you, his hand now resting on your stomach, his thumb making slow, soothing strokes as if reassuring youâand himselfâof the connection youâve just shared.Â
âYou knowâŚâ he begins, his voice barely above a whisper, âI meant everything I said, about wanting to have a baby with you. About wanting us to start a family. ButâŚif youâre not ready, we can go to the pharmacy. Get a Plan B or whatever you need.â He hesitates like heâs trying to give you space to think without pressure, though his fingers still linger on your skin as if he canât bring himself to pull away.
You reach for his hand on your stomach, intertwining your fingers with his as you turn to face him fully. âBradley, I donât want Plan B,â you murmur, your tone soft but steady. âIf youâre taking me to the pharmacy, itâs to buy an ovulation kit and a pregnancy testâso we can know exactly when itâs the best time for this. I love you, Bradley. And I want this too. I want this with you!â
He smiles back, his face lighting up as he pulls you closer. âI love you too,â he says, his voice filled with quiet reverence. âCanât wait to see you with that big beautiful bump, and donât even get me started on what these are going to look like,â he teases as his hand moves from your stomach to reach up and cup one of your breasts in his hand.
âSorry, Iâm married,â Bradley hears you say to the man whoâs just offered to buy you a drink. He glances over his shoulder just in time to witness your suitorâs face fall in disappointment. He notices that you give him an apologetic smile and it melts Bradleyâs heart that youâre being so sweet to a complete stranger.
He eyes you discreetly as you wave with a couple of fingers at the man now departing sullenly. You turn on your stool to face the bar, revealing the deep plunge of your dress which exposes your exquisite back, and Bradley canât help but stare at you in admiration. He smiles to himself, biting into his lip. âMarried, huh?â he asks, leaning his forearms into the bar.
You glance over at him in surprise.
âAnd here I thought I could buy you a drink,â Bradley says with a sideways grin.
You stare at him for a moment before letting out a small chuckle.
âWhoâs the lucky guy, anyway?â he asks, looking around the bar.
âStrange,â you reply, craning your neck to look over Bradleyâs shoulder. âHe was just here.â
Bradley shakes his head. âIll-timed departure on his part,â he says, meeting your gaze. âI would never let a woman like you out of my sight.â
You giggle. âHeâs around, Iâm sure.â
Bradley watches you mischievously. âAnd yet,â he says, getting out of his seat. âWe canât let an opportunity such as this pass us by.â He holds out his hand to you.
You give him a piercing look and hook one of your eyebrows. âAnd what opportunity would that be?â
âCome on.â Bradley grins at you. âIâm sure he wouldnât mind you letting me have one dance.â
âYouâre probably right, actually.â You shrug. âMy husbandâs not really the jealous type.â
âReally?â Bradley asks incredulously as you stand up. âHe should be.â
You chuckle. âHe trusts me.â
Bradleyâs eyes sweep over your features when you glance up at him and he tries to recall the last time heâs encountered such beauty. You are, without a doubt, the prettiest girl heâs ever seen. But this fact doesnât intimidate him in the slightest. He takes your hand and draws you out onto the open floor, keeping his eyes locked on yours.
You smile when he takes you by the waist. âNow I feel bad for sending that other guy away,â you say. âIf Iâm just handing out dances.â
Bradley makes a face. âHe wasnât trying hard enough,â he says. âSee, I wasnât going to take no for an answer.â
You laugh. âIs that so?â
Bradley nods. âYou know what else?â
âWhat?â you ask suspiciously as the two of you move gently to the distant music of the jukebox.
âIâm going to kiss you when this song is over,â he says.
You raise your eyebrows as your mouth falls open in shock. âYou mean, assuming Iâll let you!â
Bradleyâs gaze drops briefly to your lips. âYouâll let me.â
You shake your head with a scandalized smile.
âThink your husband would mind?â he asks.
You fix him with a more serious look. âWhat do you think?â
âYou said he wasnât the jealous type.â
You lower your gaze and lick your top lip before lifting your eyes temptingly. âMy husband would fucking lose it if he saw me making out with a stranger on the dance floor.â
Bradley bites his lip, chuckling. âI bet.â
You roll your eyes, a smile still playing on your face, and Bradley just about loses it himself.
âWhatâll it take for you to come home with me?â he asks boldly.
You give him a pointed glance and he pulls you slightly closer. âGee, let me think,â you respond playfully.
Bradley chuckles. âIâll do anything,â he says in a low voice, his mouth moving right over your temple.
You shake your head and look up at him. âYouâre bad,â you say with a grin.
Bradley brings his face down to meet yours, his arms coming up to wrap around your back. He draws you closer until your head is resting on his chest. âIâm so in love with you,â he breathes.
You giggle into his chest and his heart performs a series of somersaults against your cheek. Your hands snake underneath his open Hawaiian shirt to meet behind his back. âYouâre ridiculous,â you respond calmly.
Bradley kisses the top of your head. âI love you more with every breath,â he whispers.
You raise your head slightly and he can feel the warmth of your mouth on his neck. âI think youâre alright,â you say gently.
Bradley snorts, his arms tightening around you. He rests his cheek on your head, his fingers grazing your bare back. âI could hold you forever,â he mutters. âCanât I just hold you forever?â
He feels you relax further into his embrace. âOkay,â you respond softly.
Bradleyâs arms constrict around your body, and he plants several kisses on your forehead. âI bet youâre way out of your husbandâs league,â he says with a heavy rasp as his hand starts travelling up and down your waist.
You laugh. âYou donât know what youâre talking about.â
Bradleyâs hand stops moving abruptly and comes to rest of your hip. âYou love him?â
You give Bradley an earnest glance. âVery much,â you say.
Bradley eyes you curiously. âHow the fuck did he land a woman like you?â
You laugh. âWell,â you say, âfor one thing, heâs unbelievably sexy.â
Bradley smirks. âI bet he isnât half as sexy as you are.â
You roll your eyes. âHeâs smart, and funny, and sweet, and a little crazy sometimes.â
Bradley laughs. âSounds pretty basic, if you ask me.â
You give him a tight smile, trying to hold back a laugh. âAnd his confidence is off the charts.â
Bradley raises his eyebrows. âCan he take me?â
You let out a giggle. âHe wouldnât,â you say. âHeâs not the jealous type, remember?â
Bradley gives you a skeptical look. âI wouldnât be so sure about that. I think your husband would absolutely annihilate anybody who would dare lay a hand on you.â
You watch him with a tantalising smirk. âIs that what you would do?â
Bradley meets your gaze and responds firmly, âNo question.â
You rest your head back on his chest and let out a contented sigh when the first notes of a very familiar song ring out through the bar. Bradley looks up to see Jake Seresin winking at him from where heâs standing by the jukebox. Bradley smirks, nodding at his friend in appreciation. Meanwhile, you start humming to the melody absently while Bradley sways you gently from side to side.
When the bridge kicks in, Bradley sings along, âOh, can you see it, baby? You donât have to close your eyes. Itâs standing right before youâŚâ
You detach yourself partially and look up at him. âIâve always loved this song,â you say.
Bradley tenderly runs his fingers along the side of your face. âI know, baby,â he says.
âMy husbandâs not a big fan,â you say with a playful grin.
âOh, no?â Bradley lifts eyebrows.
âI had to beg him to make this our wedding song.â
âHe made you beg?â Bradley asks in outrage.
âMm-hm.â You nod. âCan you believe it?â
Bradley lowers his head and, placing his hands on either side of your face, brushes the tip of his nose against yours. âSomething tells me your husband would do anything for you.â
You giggle. âIf only I knew where he was.â
Bradley grins, biting the side of his lip. âJokeâs on him. Heâs missing all the fun.â
You reach up to twist your fingers into Bradleyâs shirt, pulling him closer. âYou promised me a kiss.â
Bradley chuckles. âOh, you want a kiss?â
You nod, humming in affirmation.
Bradley smirks, rolling his tongue along your open mouth before letting his lips finally make contact with yours. You whimper softly into his mouth and his chest nearly erupts with desire. He loves you so deeply, so madly, so â âYou know, the songâs growing on me,â he mutters between kisses.
You laugh. âI knew youâd come around eventually.â
Bradley lets out a fevered sigh, his hands sliding down your arms as the song comes to an end. âCome on, Mrs. Bradshaw,â he says hoarsely, a bit impatiently. âIâm taking you home.â
can i request a kuroo x reader where reader is bokutoâs sib? that would be so funny and how would he act towards them? and HOW BOKUTO WOULD REACT AT THISđđ love yaa
A/N: omg I love this idea!!!
>>>>ââââââââââ>
Kuroo Dating Bokutosâ Sibling Headcanons:
⢠Ironically Bokuto was the one to introduce you to Kuroo, and he would never have shown you off so proudly if he could predict the future.
Alas - you walked into a busy FukurĹdani Group Training Camp during their second year equipped with a bento box and a string of curses.
âSee how amazing my family is Rooster hair? My biggest fan brings me lunch!â Bokuto slings an arm around your shoulder beaming with grateful pride.
âUgh, yeah yeah. I figured youâd need energy and I wanted to see Akaashi tooâŚâ You retort, looking for your fellow first year in the gym.
⢠Bokuto issued you an expression of feigned hurt, hand on his chest and putting you at arms length as he hunched over.
âYou wound me!â
âIf thatâs all it takes, I need to take notes.â The Nekoma player commented, this leaving Bokuto barking back at him before returning to ânormalcyâ.
âAnyway, this is my wonderful sibling (Y/n) and this is Kuroo TetsurĹ. A middle blocker for Nekoma.â
âNice to meet you Kuroo.â
âLikewise.â
⢠It was meant to be left at that, and each of you involved in that situation wouldâve agreed too. Except, you found that the way he matched your wit magnetic, and how heâd join you when teasing Bokuto became a highlight of your time spent at the camp.
⢠Akaashi had noticed it too, addressing it rather bluntly since he was the one you lingered around most often.
âYou and Kuroo-san get along well.â
âI know, heâs kinda cool. Iâm glad I got to met players from other teams, no wonder KĹtarĹ likes these training camps so much.â
âYouâre right, they are fun.â Heâd dismissed is as friendly acquaintances. For now.
⢠It wasnât until the next practice match between FukurĹdani and Nekoma that you saw Kuroo again (and youâd ensured to come by the gym before the match to see them). This time warmly greeting each other like friends rather than strangers. A ritual that continued very time Nekoma were involved in Volleyball events.
⢠Itâs near the end of second year that Bokuto finally started to notice, this wasnât how âjust friendsâ acted. Your brother was oblivious to this stuff usually, which is why it had taken an interaction longer to catch on, but when it came to you he was more observant with such things.
⢠Itâs written in the way Kuroo leans in to listen to you; how you refill his and Kenmas bottles; that you seem to be laughing together more often than not; and in the way you look at each other. It incurs a narrowed analytic gaze from the FukurĹdani Ace.
⢠When you felt hands clasp your shoulders and steeer you away with an intimidating undertone to his upbeat voice, you figured he was on to your little crush.
âIâm taking (Y/n) away rooster hair, my sibling and I have things to discuss. Donât we?â
âCrap.â
âOh yeah, youâre damn right.â
⢠Golden eyes boared into you intently as if expecting you to spill all your secrets, Akaashi also present to such painful tactics.
âThis isnât going to work Bokuto-san.â
âGive it time Akaashi! Iâve been unbeatable since we were kids.â The Ace dismissed, not breaking stern eye contact with you.
âKĹtarĹ, youâre an idiot.â
âAnd?â
âAnd nothing.â
âOh nothing about Kuroo hm? That scheming bastard not charming enough huh?â
âYes heâ I mean noâ argh this is so unfair!â
âHAHA! See, told you Iâd get âem.â Bokuto smugly nudged Akaashi who looked far too tired for your sibling antics right now.
⢠Well at least youâll only see each other at volleyball events, which arenât too frequent to build on. Especially a long as Bokuto lives and breathes.
âI got his number.â
âYOU WHAT?!â Heâs dramatically shaking your shoulders as of its going to realign your senses.
âHe â gave â number â in touch.â
âIâll spike his stupid face!â
âYouâd do that anyway.â
âNot the point (N/n)! Iâll do it 100x harder now!â It was rather eccentric, but youâd like to think he would actually commit to such a thing âpurposefullyâ.
⢠So your secrets out. Bokuto isnât happy about it. And Akaashi is the embodiment of Switzerland but with more conspiracy.
Oh you want a moment to talk to Kuroo without Bokuto knowing? Heâll distract him. Bokuto canât supervise all the time? Akaashi is monitoring Kuroos interactions.
⢠However you manage to meet up in Tokyo without the pretences of volleyball games or training camps. Itâs purely to see one another and through this developing friendship, and with each outing creating a level of comfort, it was natural for the flirty banter to start.
⢠Such a tiptoe game preceded to their third year, and it became dangerously obvious that the pair of you had a thing for each other but neither of you had acted on it. At first Bokuto was relieved and eager to pettily drag you away whenever the opportunity arose. But now heâd kind of understood that the growing feelings were more genuine than heâd originally assumed.
⢠Itâs still a surprise when Kuroo charismatically pulls him away to an empty gymnasium after training, only to take a more awkward and serious tone when the nerves set in.
âBokuto, you know youâre one of my best friends right?â
âYeah man, but Iâm not into you that way.â
âWoah, you wish frosty tips.â Kuroo breathed out with a smirk, more at ease thanks to that remark. âI was gonna ask for you blessing as lame as that sounds.â
âEh? What for?â
âTo ask (Y/n) on a dateâŚâ
Thatâs when the humour tainting his expression fades, when the amber in his eyes burn, and the muscles of his crossed arms tense up.
âI see.â
⢠It takes you a moment to grasp the situation too, of TetsurĹ actually asking you to hang out with him after the camp ends - with the specificity of it being a date this time. It doesnât take long for you to accept, even if you did tease him a little.
âHas becoming Captain made you braver?â
âOya, I asked before you did (Y/n). Let alone the fact you couldnât resist my offer~â
⢠Kuroo finds the situation the easiest to deal with you think, he acts natural even if he is a bundle of nerves underneath it all. His existing relationship with Bokuto and teasing personality make it easier to adjust to. Although sometimes youâll over hear conversations between the two.
âThanks for asking rooster hair. Anyway⌠howâs (Y/n)?â Bokuto asks, slightly more apprehensive than their previous conversation about teams.
âHappy I hope, though I annoyed them the other day - ate the last snack from the packet.â Kuroo snickered, only for KĹtarĹ to cut in.
âYeah? You should try taking a bunch of photos, that really gets to (Y/n).â
âHey?! Donât help him!â You shout down.
⢠It amused you in the beginning, one specific time when Kuroo came to your door to pick you up only to find an expectant Bokuto.
âWell well well, look what the cat dragged in. I canât possibly allow my beloved siblingââ
âI have fried chicken.â Kuroo held up a warm takeout bag, conniving smirk in place.
âDeal, take âem wherever you want.â
âKĹtarĹ?!â You explained, your brother accepting the food without a second thought and ushering you toward the door.
âEh? You havenât bribed me in a while, rooster hair is my favourite right now. Out you go, donât keep the man waiting.â
⢠They also go shopping together whenever itâs a celebration that involves you. They gladly put yen together for a big gift, or give one another recommendations - yet act completely innocent about it when you call them out on it.
⢠Sometimes you even feel like youâre third wheeling if TetsurĹ visits the Bokuto household, their bromance truly was one of a kind. Though you didnât mind, grateful that your brother and boyfriend got along so well.
⢠Bokuto still had that big brother protectiveness though and Kuroo was a scheming bastard when exploiting it. Heâd playfully kiss you or show affection in front him - KĹtarĹ immediately pulling you into him with a look of utter disgust.
âHow dare you lay your hands on (Y/n)?â
âKou, heâs my boyfrieââ
âHe knows what he did!â
⢠Overall itâs a positive experience, and it feels like Kuroo is already apart of the family due to the connections you each already share. They both make the effort to ensure you are happy when they can, and keep in touch fairly often. To be honest your certain they let the other know if your in a bad mood⌠so much for loyalty yâknow?
⢠However, one thing you havenât discovered yet, is that when Kuroo asked for Bokutosâ blessing, he readily accepted.
âI see.â
A look of contemplation, and then a beaming smile.
âFinally man! Course you have my blessing bedhead, I can tell you care about (Y/n) and would protect them like I would. Plus I know theyâd be happy.â
âThanks Bokuto, Iâll give it my best if they accept.â
âYou better. Else Iâll kill you.â This was sinister, it was that deranged look he got when lost in a match, the one before the most earsplitting spikes - suddenly replaced with his usual carefree grin.
âWhatcha waiting for huh? Get out there and ask (Y/n)!â
