The Kris/Erik Thesis
Or, why the Kris Letang/Erik Karlsson ship actually makes way more sense than anyone gives it credit for. And, here's all the reasons why.
Anyone who wants to add to this is more than free to do so btw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kristopher Letang
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born April 24th 1987 in Montreal, Canada.
Played Forward before transitioning to Defence.
Drafted 62nd overall in the 2005 Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Third longest tenured player on the team, and the only Penguins defenceman to play 1000 or more games for the team.
Holds just about every important record for his position in team history.
Winner of three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, and 2017) and one Masterton Award (2023). Also the only of the current core to score a cup clinching goal (2016 vs San Jose).
Hot shit and he knows it.
Labelled as his team's 'conscience' - representing them in the NHLPA.
Wears #58 (that'll be important later)
The most beautiful man in the whole team, and routinely has everyone blushing over him. As a rookie, the veterans would prank him because of how handsome they found him.
Captained Team Canada at two U-18 World Championships, winning them both.
One of Sidney Crosby's beloved Alternates since 2017/18.
Erik Karlsson
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born May 31st 1990, in Vetlanda, Sweden.
Called 'The Swedish Bobby Orr'.
Drafted 15th overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2008 NHL Draft.
Has played for three teams in his career. Spending nine seasons in Ottawa (also captaining them), five in San Jose (as an Alternate), and is coming up for his second as a Penguin.
Got Ottawa to game seven of the 2017 Eastern Conference Final by himself on one foot, where they lost to Pittsburgh.
Set a record in San Jose for points in a season in 2022/23 with 101.
Erik has won three Norris Trophies (2012, 2015, and 2023), but has never won a Stanley Cup.
Also hot shit and knows it.
His trade to Pittsburgh was subject of a lot of speculation and rumour over the summer of 2023 until it was announced that August, we all collectively lost our minds.
Wears #65 (will be important later)
Has a whole subreddit dedicated to thirsting over him called r/stupidsexykarlsson. Is one of the most handsome and best dressed guys in the league.
Captained Team Sweden at this year's World Championships, winning bronze.
Probably only a matter of time until he gets the third A in Pittsburgh.

The Lore(tm)
First Meeting? 2011 All Star Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2011 NHL All Star Game was hosted in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Featured a Fantasy Draft (like in 2024, but better, and without celebs making it about themselves)
Kris was in his fifth NHL season, with a cup under his belt.
Erik was in his second, one season from his first Norris.
Like, legit, they were babies, just two little d-men among living legends.
Marc-Andre Fleury also went, and was on the opposing team to Kris and Erik.
That's right, they were teammates at their first ever All Star Game!
This is kinda the fulcrum of the ship for me (anyone who's read my fics knows how often I reference this event!)
Make It Double! 2012 All Star Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2012 NHL All Star Game was hosted in Ottawa - Erik's home!
Also featured a Fantasy Draft, and, again Kris and Erik landed on the same team!
This time it was better, because they were partners for this one!
This was the season Erik won his first Norris.
Evgeni Malkin was also there, on the opposing team (rude tbh)
They were still young, Kris was in his sixth season and Erik in his third, but they weren't as baby then.
Kris looked particularly hot that year (gee, wonder why?)
This was also Erik's first of two All Star games in a home arena!
Three's A Pattern... 2016 All Star Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2016, the All Star Game was hosted in Nashville.
In a rude change of format, Kris and Erik were locked into their divisional teams this time. Atlantic for Erik, Metropolitan for Kris.
Which, in hindsight, would make for some heated faceoffs anyway!
Evgeni Malkin was Kris' partner again, Erik went alone afaik.
This was months before Kris scored his Cup winning goal against the Sharks.
Erik had been made Captain in Ottawa by this time, and Kris was well in charge of Pittsburgh's defence. They weren't babies anymore!
They both looked gorgeous with shorter hair (twin souls much?)
The two images I've chosen are just priceless to me!
Four For The Best: 2018 All Star Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2018 NHL All Star Game was held in Tampa.
Still locked into their divisional teams, but the last they'd attend together as Eastern Conference players.
The last ASG Erik would attend as a Senator, and as their captain, before going west.
The first ASG Kris would attend as an Alternate, and the first since his neck operation.
Overall, a weekend of firsts and lasts for them both.
This time, Sidney Crosby had to third wheel their asses (probably learning how that looks from outside)
Also: the first ASG Flower would attend as a Knight.
Both of them were true veterans by now, not the babies from 2011 anymore!
A Fifth Time Lucky! 2019 All Star Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This time, the ASG was hosted in San Jose - Erik's new home!
The second time Erik's team hosted one of these events, and Kris got to attend... which could mean nothing, y'know? Fate? Never met her.
Erik's first ASG as a Shark, but not his last!
The last All Star Game they'd attend together... which seems offensive to me, but whatever.
They were kind of glued together (a theme) while watching the Skills Comp, hence the middle image above, which makes me insane.
Sid, again, had to third wheel them with Flower. He'd probably gotten used to it by then, though.
The last ASG they'd attend as opponents, but not the last NHL event.
This also serves as a huge fulcrum to this ship for me (I also reference this one a lot in my fics, and set one of them during it.)
Bringing Home The Silverware! 2023 NHL Awards
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hosted again in Nashville, just like the 2016 ASG.
Erik was up for the Norris for the fifth time, and Kris was up for the Masterton for a third time.
Erik took home the Norris for his 101 point season with the Sharks - which would prove to be his last season with the team before the trade.
Kris finally got his Masterton for his comeback from a second stroke, foot fracture, and the passing of his father the same season he played his 1000th game.
They both looked just incredible that night, everyone else looked so ordinary by comparison.
This would be the final NHL event they'd ever attend together as opponents.
By now, Erik was already being linked with a move to the Penguins.
The Three Way Trade of 2023
Tumblr media
After failing to make the playoffs for the first time in the Big Three era, the Pittsburgh Penguins fired Ron Hextall and Brian Burke from their management staff.
Bringing in Kyle Dubas to be their new General Manager and President of Hockey Operations, and a certain Jason Spezza to be Assistant General Manager.
Jason Spezza was Erik Karlsson's captain as a Senator... so, it's all coming together.
Pittsburgh, San Jose, and Montreal formed a trade triangle that summer.
Montreal got from Pittsburgh: Casey DeSmith (sorry for bringing him up), Jeff Petry, and Nathan Legare, as well as a draft pick.
San Jose got from Pittsburgh: Mikael Granlund, Jan Rutta, and a pick. They also got Mike Hoffman (ew) from Montreal.
Pittsburgh got from San Jose: Erik Karlsson and Dillon Hamaliuk, as well as a pick, as well as Rem Pitlick from Montreal.
So, finally, here we are, with Erik Karlsson as a Pittsburgh Penguin!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Would They Get Along?
The natural question from literally everyone was about whether Kris and Erik would gel as teammates, both prideful, both legendary, one with three cups, the other with three Norrises.
But, not to worry! We started getting ✨articles✨ and ✨pictures✨ Oh my! Oh my!
Here is an article of Erik gushing about how awesome Kris is.
Here is one about Kris gushing over the trade.
And, they're attached at the hip during training.
And on gameday!
Also, they have a pre-game ritual already.
Also also, they sit together on the plane.
And, walk in together for games too!
Then, sit together on the bench!
Then, they got his and his penalties somehow?
End of season interviews were cute too!
So, yeah, all is well in the Steel City for two very sexy defencemen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now, ✨Vibes✨ Time!
Matching each other's freak
Runs on spite x runs on attitude
Match each other's yapping ability
We've been holding up three separate d-corps, and finally found someone who gets it.
Unhinged French-Canadian x Unhinged Swede.
Draft steal x wunderkind
Went to school for gym class x skipped class all the time
Bilingual Kings (or, Trilingual if you've read my fics)
Tall, Dark, and Handsome - and they both know it.
Strangers to secret lovers to teammates.
Love at first sight.
Apart we're deadly but we're even worse together.
Chaos soulmates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Numbers (& Why They Matter)
Erik wears 65, because both of his parents were born in that year.
Kris used to wear Jagr's 68, but changed it to 58 because no one else in the QMJHL was using it.
It's been long noted that the Penguins Core jersey numbers all fit together in a chain, 588771.
So, naturally, Erik's 65 completes that chain 65588771. He and Kris sharing the number five.
While Sid and Geno are 8771, Kris and Erik are 6558.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nicknames
Kris - Bang Bang, Tanger, Legend, Feral Cat.
Erik - EK65, Karl, Swedish Bobby Orr, King Karl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some Angles To Play With
Secret Relationship (as I have)
Forbidden Romance (Penguin x Senator/Shark)
Long Distance Relationship
Married Forwards vs Married Defencemen
Strangers to Lovers
Rivals to Lovers
Lovers to Exes To Lovers
Meet Cute (does an All Star Game count as a Meet Cute? idk)
Friends to Lovers (I kinda skipped over friends for them, but in my fics they're definitely each other's best friend)
Flirting Under Fire (They'd totally flirt mid game y'know?)
First Love
Friends With Benefits
Love at First Sight
Nobody Thinks It'll Work
Rivalry as Courtship
Birds of A Feather (flightless birds, but birds still)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, that's all I can think of. But, this ship makes perfect sense to me (but, I might be totally off my rocker). As I said up top, if anyone wants to add to this, go right ahead. If I've missed anything, or if you wanna link your fics, go for it. This post is for us, not for me.
Love and light!

13/09/2024 - Rookie Faceoff || SJS vs UTA
macklin celebrini scores his first goal in teal, assisted by luca cagnoni -> baby sharks celebrate
[ID: gifset of San Jose Sharks prospects vs Utah HC celebrating after a goal. Macklin Celebrini stands alone after scoring. Teammates Collin Graf (#51), Will Smith (#2), Quentin Musty (#13), and Luca Cagnoni (#42) join him one at a time, coming together to bump fists and celebrate. Musty skates at the group with speed and throws his arms around Graf and Celebrini, and firmly pats Celebrini's head just once. They break away after exchanging a few words to skate along the bench and collect more fist bumps, led by Celebrini. /. End ID]

WOLF PACK WEEKEND RECAP: MARCH 11th, 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack HARTFORD, CT—The Hartford Wolf Pack scored three of a possible four points over the weekend, extending their current point streak to five games (3-0-1-1). Thanks to their three points over the weekend, the Wolf Pack is tied with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for third place in the Atlantic Division. The Pack spent Monday morning traveling to Charlotte, North Carolina, where they will meet the Checkers on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Friday, March 8th, 2024, Vs. Providence Bruins (7-4 W): The Wolf Pack tied their season high for both goals (seven) and powerplay goals (four) in a single game on Friday night. The Pack roared out to a 6-0 lead, blowing away the Bruins to take a 5-4 edge in the ten-game season series. Brett Berard scored the first hat trick of his professional career, scoring three times on the powerplay. He struck at 7:26 and 14:20 of the first period and made it 5-0 2:35 into the middle frame. Berard's three powerplay goals tie a franchise record for powerplay goals in a single game. Andrew Hutchinson was the last to do in on February 8th, 2008, against the Bruins. Ryan Callahan had previously done it twice. Berard's hat trick goal also stood as the game-winning goal, his team-leading eighth of the season. Alex Belzile also notched three points in his return to the lineup, scoring a goal and two assists. Blade Jenkins and Nikolas Brouillard scored a goal and an assist in the win, while Matej Pekar, Brennan Othmann, and Mac Hollowell recorded two helpers. Dylan Garand made 33 saves to pick up his career-high 16th victory of the season. With the win, the Wolf Pack are now 5-3-1-0 against the Bruins this season. The Bruins, who saw a five-game road winning streak snapped, are now 4-3-1-1 in the head-to-head matchup. Saturday, March 9th, 2024, @ Bridgeport Islanders (3-2 SOL): Trailing 1-0 through 40 minutes of play, the Wolf Pack struck twice in the third period to take a 2-1 lead over the rival Bridgeport Islanders. Belzile tied the contest 6:48 into the third period, jamming home a rebound for his 16th goal of the season. Nic Petan, making his Wolf Pack debut, earned the primary assist on the goal. 2:56 later, Jake Leschyshyn scored his sixth goal of the season at 10:41 to give the Wolf Pack a 2-1 lead and put them in the driver's seat. However, William Dufour tied the game with a shot from the right-wing faceoff circle at 12:03. Dufour's 13th goal of the season would force an overtime period, the second in as many meetings at Total Mortgage Arena between the sides. The Wolf Pack got an early penalty kill in overtime, then nearly won the game when Brouillard set up Berard on a two-on-zero. Jakub Skarek made a terrific save, keeping the Islanders alive and forcing a shootout. In the shootout, Matthew Maggio and Petan both scored to make it 1-1, entering the bottom half of the third round. Ruslan Iskhakov went between the legs and scored a beautiful goal to earn the Isles the second point. The loss snapped the Wolf Pack's seven-game winning streak in Bridgeport and their six-game winning streak overall in the season series. Quick Hits: - Brouillard has been red-hot as of late from the blue line. In his first year with the Wolf Pack, the defenseman scored an assist in seven of the team's last eight games. He's also scored a goal during that stretch and is working on a four-game point streak. - Thanks to his hat trick on Friday night, Berard leads the Wolf Pack with 22 goals on the season. He is second in the AHL in goals among rookies, tied with Tucson's Josh Doan. Logan Stankoven of the Texas Stars leads all rookies with 24 goals. - Both Berard (T-5th, 39 points) and Othmann (T-7th, 38 points) are in the top ten in points among rookies in the AHL. - On Friday, the parent New York Rangers (NHL) traded forward Turner Elson to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Nic Petan. Petan, wearing #7, made his Wolf Pack debut Saturday night in Bridgeport. He recorded an assist and scored in the shootout. - On Sunday morning, the Rangers announced a one-year contract extension for goaltender Louis Domingue. Over two seasons with the Wolf Pack, Domingue is 35-19-12 with five shutouts. - Defenseman Zach Berzolla returned to the lineup on Saturday night, playing his first AHL game since November 25th, 2023. He suffered a lower-body injury that night against the Belleville Senators.
