I have tried to cop nearly every RF x Asics collab since the leatherbacks with no luck whatsoever. When I found out about the pop-up happening in Venice, I lost my shit. I was determined & nothing was going to stop me from getting my pair. Since I go to school just a few blocks away from the shop I decided to scope it out on Thursday. It was nothing then, but a mere empty space with two very kind KITH staff members (Nick & Jaimie). I was anxious to find out that they had only a handful of the shoes in my size(5), but the staff assured me that I would be ok. After an 1hr of 405fwy traffic, I was in line on Friday by 8am. I went by myself- which is usually a pain during shoe releases because as a girl you either get hit-on & cat-called or you get belittled because people refuse to believe you are getting the shoes for yourself and not for a brother or boyfriend. That wasn’t the case at this release, nearly everyone was kind & respectful (aside from the typical entitled hypebeast that jump the front of the line…. causing you to miss out on a photo-opp with Ronnie himself). As I approached the front of the line, a little over 5hrs later, I see the inside of the shop- to my surprise the modest empty space was transformed into a gorgeous showroom. I was taken back by the original architecture of the displays that also doubled as lighting and shoe shelves. Ronnie and the KITH team did an exceptional job of bringing NY to LA. I cannot stress how impressed I was seeing something NEW walking into a street wear shop, in LA a lot of shops copy designs- not KITH. They can’t be duplicated. They are not just selling products, but truly a lifestyle. I got both pairs from the release (FINALLY!) wore the “Atlantic” ones straight out of the store and I’m a happy camper. The quality exceeded my expectations, the contrast of the textures made these instantly one of my favorite shoes. Everyone that played a part in this release, I thank you. This is EXACTLY what the West Coast needed.
