This is a reminder (or notification to those who don't know) that Ron Carter is on Instagram (@roncarterbassist) , and despite being a jazz legend as the most recorded bassist of all time, he has one of the most engaging and interactive instagram accounts where his IG account is full of interviews, personal stories, and testimonials to his followers. Wikipedia says Ron Carter has recorded on 2,221 albums, which I’m guessing is a low estimate, and has recorded with some of the most notable names in jazz, including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Roy Ayers (on his 1968 album “Stone Soul Picnic” and his 1969 album “Daddy Bug”). For these gentleman, very little is beyond their reach when it comes to the instrument they play. As a photographer, what I strive to capture in a musician is the moment that seems just beyond the grasp of their ability. It lets you see they are human. Even someone like Mr. Ron Carter, who seems almost alien like in his expertise of the instrument and the music… every now then… you see a bit of a struggle in the passion to get there. There so much happening in this photo. Legendary bassist, and Guinness book record holder @roncarterbass is on stage in his 80’s looking like he’s my age. Playing with another legend @russell.malone Russell’s guitar, from where I stand, looks like a Gibson L5. I could be wrong. But that thing was sound like it cost millions of dollars. Along with Their pianist, Donald Vega I think his name was, they brought some real jazz with them. They looked as good as they sounded. NO DRUMMER!!!
