one of my pettiest gun opinions is that i absolutely abhor the existence of .278 caliber/6.8mm when .284 caliber/7mm exists and is Basically The Same But It Came First And Is More Versatile. now, to explain a bit: "caliber" as a technical term just describes the diameter of a bullet in inches as a decimal. so .308 caliber would just be .308 inches, no fancy conversions. now, the reason different calibers for a cartridge to use exist At All is that they have an appreciable difference from one another in terms of design, particularly in terms of sectional density and ballistic coefficient. in laymans terms, the way i like to describe sectional density is thus: imagine a nail and a ball bearing made of the same metal with the same weight. now, if you shoved both of them into something, which do you think would penetrate the thing more easily? the nail, of course. that's sectional density in practice, it's just the diameter of something relative to its weight aiding in penetration (for instance, an 175 grain 7mm bullet has a similar sectional density to a 210 grain 7.62mm bullet, so if you took a 7mm-08 with an 175 grain bullet and a .308 win with an 180 grain bullet, the 7mm-08 would penetrate significantly better while putting basically the same amount of energy on target). ballistic coefficient is literally just how aerodynamic a bullet is. long sleek gamers will fly through the air more efficiently than short stubby ones, not too hard to grasp conceptually even if i don't know the actual math behind it. obviously a sleek 190 grain .30 cal will fly further than a stumpy little 190 grain .45, that's a significant difference in fundamental shape.
now, comparing the .270 to the 7mm... most of the common bullet diameters have significantly more of a jump between them. a .224 caliber bullet is significantly wider in diameter than a .204 caliber, and is significantly less wide in diameter than a .243. there are some exceptions to this, but i think that as they exist they justify their own existence (a .366/9.3mm isn't that different from a .358/9.1mm, but differences in bullet selection and a myriad of other factors justify the existence of each imo. same goes for the difference between a .257/6.35mm and a .264/6.5mm). now, the key difference with the .270 and the 7mm is that the .270 has a rather limited range of bullet weights from around the 90 to 150 grain range, while the 7mm has almost all of that starting at about 100 grains and also everything up to 175 grains, not even counting obscure, usually custom outliers like 180-200 grain bullets. or in other words, ladies, you can get a man that does both. and this is setting aside the fact that the 7mm diameter has existed since the 7x57mm mauser, which was literally one of the first rimless smokeless rifle cartridges on earth, meanwhile the .270 winchester (the main popularizer of the 6.8mm, albeit definitely not the originator because i believe the chinese 6.8x57mm was the earliest example), the .270 came out decades after the 7mm was well goddamn established. winchester came out with their .270 in about 1925, 33 goddamn whole ass years after the 7x57 mauser and 8 years after the basically dimensionally identical (and slightly ballistically superior) 7x64mm brenneke. it's just the same goddamn thing, but slightly worse, and as a historical side note was created because winchester wanted to create a "distinctly american" diameter, which is so goddamn stupid. im glad the 7mm rem mag took off here, at least.

Forgottenweapons and Royal Armory are like, the 2 mainstream examples of this
Also
Paul Harrell (mostly ammo testing, number crunching)
Legacy Collectables (historic/WW2)
Ron Spomer (mostly hunting-related)
USOG (niche historic guns, most videos have <20k views)
In depth gun channels need to go back to being ran by boring ass middle aged Tom Clancy-esque accountants who get excited about serial numbers and manufacture dates of shitty Belgian optic mounts for irrelevant Chilean contract rifles that never got adopted. I am so tired some seeing fucking 33 year old dudes knee deep in faggy groyper memes taking up all the space that used to be educational and informative with videos titled "it's da OP gun from cawadoody BLOPs but irl!!???!!" that are somehow 20 minutes long and manage to offer no insight or history beyond some 2 minute garbage meme fest take that might as well be a retarded Mastodon lyric or ripped off /k/ post.

Tips To Help You Shoot Better When Wyoming Bird Hunting
New Post has been published on https://petnews2day.com/pet-news/bird-news/tips-to-help-you-shoot-better-when-wyoming-bird-hunting/
Tips To Help You Shoot Better When Wyoming Bird Hunting
If you love to hunt and fish, you live in a great state. The options are limitless, don’t believe me check out the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s seasons list.
Deer, elk, moose, antelope, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, rabbit, squirrel, grouse, pheasant, turkey, ducks and goose hunting are all happen during the fall. Throw in fishing and Wyoming is an outdoorsman or outdoorswoman’s dream.
With the exception of some archery hunting and fishing, most every other type of hunting requires a firearm and the ability to aim and shoot.
If you’re using a rifle, more than likely you’re using a scope and have tuned that rifle in. No one wants to make a bad shot and wound the animal or miss completely, so you practice.
If you’re using a shotgun, you still practice but instead of relying on optics (in most cases), you rely on gun placement, muscle memory and instinct, to get the job done.
Shotgun hunting can be frustrating, especially if you’re shooting at a fast moving duck, a pheasant that’s flying away from you or a goose that’s too high. Knowing how to hold the gun properly, the perfect placement of the barrel and the range you’re comfortable are all key ingredients to a successful bird hunt.
HuntStand is an informative app and website that is directed toward giving hunters the information and tips to help with every step of the hunt. They also have a great information filled HuntStand YouTube Channel.
I’ve been watching videos and shows from Outdoorsman Ron Spomer for years and I got sucked into a rabbit hole of hunting and shooting videos, and watched one that may help you when you’re hunting birds.
In the video, Ron says there are ‘3 essentials’ when it comes to being effective when shooting your shotgun.
Those ‘3 Essentials’ Are:
Fit – if your shotgun doesn’t fit you, you’re going to have a hard time shooting birds
Focus – keeping both your eyes open allows you to see the bird you are shooting at.
Follow Through – making sure you keep the motion of your gun following your target. Stopping  your movement will mess with the shot.
Seems simple enough, right? Watching Ron explain each step, will help you grasp the concept of the 3 essentials.
Even if you’ve been shooting for many years or you’re a beginner the videos may help you kill more birds.
Check out Ron explaining the essentials and give them a try the next time you’re on a hunt.

Styrka rifle scope earns recognition and fans.
Styrka rifle scope earns recognition and fans.
Occasionally, what happens in Vegas…needs to be shared everywhere. That certainly is the case with Styrka Optics and their big win at the recently concluded 2018 Shot Show. At this year’s annual exhibition, the Styrka S7 Rifle Scope earned the Award of Excellence for Optics of the Year from The Outdoor Wire.
As noted by Ron Spomer, Sporting Classics Rifle and Optics Senior Editor, “The Styrka brand is one of the many ‘new kids on the optical block, but it’s one that impresses us for all the right reasons. The Minnesota company is building rifle scopes like its S7 series to world-class standards with best in-world service and guarantees.”
Fast growth comes by taking a long-term approach
Styrka has quickly gained a reputation for the level of quality put into materials and manufacturing, a desire to educate hunters about what optics can and cannot do —all backed up with the Styrka Pride warranty that offers to fix or replace any product purchased. Forever.
The S7 rifle scope in addition to many other Styrka optics and can be found at the Sportsman’s Guide.
