--- It wasn’t sunny, it wasn’t raining but the dull sky above had no hope of brightening up the day or bringing with it a down fall that would wash away this towns sin. The smell of sweet coffee filled the store as a petite brunette lay hidden in the corner with books piled in front of her. Octavia had hidden herself away only a few hours prior to find herself lost in the world of literature and fiction.
‘’Every human has four endowments - self awareness, conscience, independent will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... The power to choose, to respond, to change.’’ Octavia finishes reading aloud as she closes the book with a small sigh. Passing time in this town was getting harder with each waking moment; it felt like every minute was an hour. Once the bar was up and running she’d have something to focus on, but as of right now all she had to do was wait until the gave her the go ahead. Couldn’t they speed it up? She was decaying slowly over here.
She was sure within the next twenty minutes the store would close its doors to the few customers who still remained and she would be forced to find something else to do in order to occupy her time. You see, she wasn’t usually this bored because she’d work a con to keep herself entertained or get herself entangled in all kinds of drama. But she couldn’t here. Why? Because she was still awaiting to hear from Lucas about what the job he had for her was. Until that moment she’d have to be on her best behaviour. So with a mutter to herself she packed up her belongings and chucked the bag over her shoulder.
Now on the streets of the cool town of Lakewood, eyes of emerald that matched the greenery that surrounded the place --- she decided to explore. But as Octavia turned a corner she stopped dead in her tracks; it couldn’t, right? Here in the small town, where she was certain people came to die quietly.
In front of her was a man she’d once known. A man she’d never forgotten.
‘‘I’ll be damned.’‘ She called out. ‘‘Look what the cat dragged in!’‘

Humanitarian work was tedious, but rewarding. There was the shiny reputation, the heaps of money laundered effortlessly, and the fact her bodyguards thought she was still inside the shelter, comforting wailing women and bouncing their drooling children on her hip. Elisabeth smirked as she passed the gates of the Guerra residence, shooting a quick look at her watch. Morons.
It’d been a twenty-minute walk uphill—in five-inch heels, no less—but the sight made it worthwhile. Roman’s house towered over the town and the endless green around it like a castle forged of iron and glass. The perfect place for the princess to hide and lick her wounds. Pardon, the dragon.
Her skin prickled as the wind blew harder. A brat had left an imprint of a grubby paw on her blouse, so she’d had to change in the bathroom. A simple black dress hugged her slim figure now, too thin for the weather, but perfectly inconspicuous. Even if someone had seen her sneak out the fire door, chances were, they hadn’t recognized her.
Pulling the sleeves of the coat over her chilly hands, Elisabeth reached into the pocket for the phone. Her other phone.
She glanced behind, then hit the dial. Roman took his own sweet time to pick up.
“Hey, Rapunzel. It’s Lis.” The last name omitted on purpose, of course. “I’m at your door. Alone.“

Things have been in a rush lately for Hayden and it wasn’t cause she didn’t do anything wrong. Oh no. She was sleeping in on a beautiful morning in Silicy when she got the call Roman had been arrested and put an extra pep in her step when he called her himself. The blonde heard chatter through her contacts within the Underworld that the bodyguard she answered to, Emilia, was dead. When arriving into Lakewood Hayden didn’t have time to sight see the shit hole she heard so much about and found herself waiting in the office of Roman.
What did she do while she was waiting? She got into his alcohol, of course. The man gave her a headache at times and didn’t tell her much over the phone. Despite her back facing the door Hayden knew it was him who opened them. “Can I not take a single vacation--all expenses paid by the way--without you getting your ass arrested?” Hayden takes a big sip of her glass before refilling it. “Next time you should come with me so I can make sure you stay out of trouble.” Or really get into trouble together.
Standing up to face the President, Hayden walks over and hands him the glass. “Is it true what I’ve heard--about Emilia?” It had been known throughout the cartel Hayden nor Emilia never really did get along. The only they thing could agree on was the safety of their President.
