deification as a form of cannibalism. you take someone's mortal memory and you eat it and then you become it. and you try and bury the bones of who they were in life so you can vomit up the half-digested bile-soaked image of a god. but you fail and their human ghost lingers, cold fingers forcing their way up out of your throat.

thank you SO much for this!!! many thoughts head full!!!
and they were on neighbouring dining couches! (oh di immortales they were on neighbouring dining couches)
petition to give james fitzjames a quinquereme approx. 67 bce
romebrain on main at all times but YEAH isn’t roman nomenclature impossible...... like even if the latinisations weren’t Very Not Great they would be weirdly out of place And the cold boys would still need nomina and oh god how do you translate their various positions in society into existing roman gentes...... h
OH to be a bystander at fitzjames’ extravagant aedilician games, during which absolutely no fires are set to the (suetonius life of caesar voice) temporary colonnades in the forum and capitol
you are not immune to cicero............ unfortunately i am also not immune to cicero and now i’m Invested in whatever dynamic exists between jfj and sir johnmpey and cicero, esp if that mysterious provincial governor is a nobilis or even (gasp) a patrician
literally any terror pairing you like and the au is republican rome? (cicero optional)
“Is he talking about that new aedile again?” Crozier complained to Ross, who reclined on the dining-couch beside him, the both of them far enough from their dinner-host to find fault with his opinions without fear of being overheard.
Ross turned to look with a toss of his handsome head, and nodded, and replied, “The young man who served under Pompey against the pirates? I think so, he’s said to be the illegitimate son of some provincial governor, but damned good with a rostrum – and it sounds like Marcus has a high opinion of his verse, as well.”
“Do we trust Tullius to be a good judge of poetry, though?” Crozier whispered back, and Ross snickered into the hem of his toga.

“Cicero optional” you say, like Cicero is ever optional in my life…. God, thanks for this one. I’m all over the place right now. I have NO idea how to integrate Roman nomenclature with the names of the icy boys – and I refuse to use the canonical “Franciscus” and “Jacobus” – but I did my best.
Send me a prompt (details here) and I’ll write you a three-sentence fic!
