Jey had gone to Cody’s bus as soon as he escaped his family, it felt like the only safe place he could go in the whole arena.

He couldn't stay he had to get out.

Jey could barely recognize Solo when they finally meet again face to face, brother to brother.

That grumpy but well-meaning kid seemed to have disappeared replaced by a boy trying to replicate the person he the most admired and who haunted their nightmares. Jey had felt like a complete failure in that moment, he had helped bring Solo into the Bloodline he let Roman dig his claws into his little brother, to push wedges between them and break them down. Jey had escaped but his biggest regret was leaving Solo. Jey isn’t sure how he would have convinced Solo to leave with him, but he would do anything to save him.

After that he had run into Jimmy and Roman which was a whole different kind of painful. He could tell neither of them really changed, not deep down, Roman still didn’t understand what being The Tribal Chief actually meant, and Jimmy still thought the best of their cousin.

So, he had jogged to Cody’s bus to find the other champion doing his last preparations for his appearance. He had welcomed Jey with open arms, told him to hold down the fort until he gets back. Jey had smiled and laughed along; he missed Cody, a painful amount.

The man had taken a chance on him after he left the Bloodline and even though Cody says that there is no and never was a debt Jey still wants to make it up to Cody… and he sure as hell isn’t making it up to the man by drinking some of his whiskey but Jey had a long night, he’ll pay him back later.

Jey turns on the TV sitting in one of the many comfortable chairs before turning on the small TV to watch the show.

Cody does his best to make The Crown Jewel title seem interesting but Jey knows the other man well, he can tell he kinda thinks this is this stupid.

Jey isn’t really worried about Cody in the upcoming Crown Jewel match, for one it isn’t for titles and for two Jey is pretty sure Cody doesn’t actually feel pain (he never stops fighting). He’ll be okay.

Soon after the segment ends Cody returns to his bus and settles next to Jey. He doesn’t bring up his family, they just chat about whatever. Conversation with Cody had always been easy like that.

“How is Rhea? Is she treating you right?” Questions Cody, a smile on his face.

“Yeah, uce, she’s good but we’re taking it slow. Ya know, championships and evil exes.”

Cody nods a kind smile on his face as he says

“You can always some talk to me”

Jey nods, Sami also told him that but it’s nice to hear it again.

They chat more before Jey hears the beginning of Roman’s music. They both turn to look at the TV that had otherwise been ignoring. Roman was facing off with Solo in the ring, which wasn’t surprising they both heard that Roman wanted to acknowledge Solo.

Jey rolls his eyes when Roman asks how he can fix their family. Roman doesn’t even realize he broke it in the first place, he doesn’t realize that they would all do better apart, Jey proved that. The best way for Roman to fix their family is to let them go, stop trying to make them fit into the molds he made for them and love them the way they are.

Of course, a fight starts, nothing goes smoothly in their family, but he is surprised when he sees Cody’s… pensive? Sad? Longing? Expression.

His eyes are fixed on Roman, and he clenches and unclenches his jaw as they silently watch the beat down.

In that terrible moment Jey sees something in Cody’s eyes that makes him what to… Cry maybe? Attack? Demand answers?

Cody is looking at Roman with love.

Love, deep compassion, a sea of concern, a quite swell of hope and desire. Cody fell in love with Roman.

It makes him feel sick with worry. Has Roman realized? Has Roman had Cody? Does Cody know he’s in love?

Jey knows Roman would use this to get the Undisputed Title back, he would break Cody’s heart to get back on top and then act confused when Cody leaves him. Jey doesn’t want Cody to suffer like he did.

How the hell did Cody manage to fall in love with Roman anyway? Roman had done nothing but hurt them, it seemed out of character.

Jey swallows the lump in his throat before saying,

“I want to go check on Jimmy”

It's not a lie, he would have gone to check on Jimmy anyway. Maybe not talk to his twin himself but asking the doctors if anything was really wrong always made him feel better.

Cody nods, standing up to go with him.

The real reason Jey wants to go is because he needs to see how his cousin looks at Cody. He needs to figure out if Roman is a threat to him. Jey is probably one of the people who knows Roman the best, he’s one of the only people who might be able to figure out what his intentions are with Cody.

It doesn’t take long for them to arrive at the medical center within the Arena. One of the senior doctors notices them and says

“Jimmy and Roman are in room number 6 on the left. They are doing well but there going to be here for supervision for a few hours.”

Normally now is when Jey would thank the doctor and leave but he’s on a mission today. He doesn’t like it but he walks to room number six, Cody beside him.

His handshakes lightly as he opens the door to everyone and everything he wants to leave behind.

Jimmy is laying on the bed, couple bandages and a stern expression on his face as he talks to Roman. Roman looks better, the only sign that something happened is a bruise on his neck.

The former tribal chief and his right-hand man look up as soon as they walk in. Jimmy looks delighted and Roman looks shocked.

“Jey! Cody!”

Jey focus on Roman’s face, seeing all the micro expressions pass and how he never takes his eyes off Cody.

Roman’s surprise fades and is replaced a small sad smile, there is a longing in his eyes like he’s looking at something he’s never had but deeply craves. There is a certain softness in Roman’s eyes that Jey doesn’t think he’s seen before.

Roman looks at Cody like he’s a prize, which for him might be the closest thing to love Roman is capable at this point.

Jimmy meets his eyes and shrugs, in that silent twin way he tells Jey that he knows, he sees what Jey sees.

Jey looks between Roman and Cody before giving Jimmy a look, asking him what he thinks.

Jimmy nods again and smiles as he silently mouths words Jey secretly hoped to hear,

“He’s helping”

Jey assumes that means Cody is helping Roman and judging by Jimmy’s expression he’s helping Roman get better.

Roman getting better? That dream seemed so far away for so long but according to Jimmy; he is changing. Changing back to the person he knew when they were kids… Jey would do anything to bring back the cousin he knew, but would he be willing to give him Cody? Because if this doesn’t work, if it goes south Cody is the one paying the price.

He frowns and mulls it over. He could end this all, he could call everyone, warn Cody and make sure he was protected… or he could leave it be and maybe save his cousin.

It might be selfish, but Jey leaves it, he pulls his sunglasses down makes sure everyone is okay then leaves with Cody.

If this goes wrong, he can just add this to his long list of regrets, but if this goes right? He might just get his cousin back, his family back.

There are so many ships that I am so fascinated with. There’s Cody/Punk and their star crossed love. There’s the enemies to lovers of Cody/Seth. There’s the “oh no I’m falling in love” kind of vibe with Cody/Roman. There’s this “I hate you at least that’s what I say” going with Seth/Punk. GOSH I LOVE IT ALL

This is not the fun, smutty, Electric Blue spin-off I was expecting to write for these guys next, instead have some Roman angsting over Cody in the hospital. Because they're just so good at angsting!
