Bringing this 3-year old

post back because the fuse is lit and ready to detonate. Finally, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING, PART ONE almost here.

In the time that I originally made this post a global pandemic brought things to a halt, Esai Morales stepped in as the film's big bad after Nicholas Hoult had to drop out due to MI7's delay which would have interferred with his committment to S3 of Hulu's THE GREAT.

Losing MI7 was just of Nicky's string of defeats. He audtioned for THE BATMAN and didn't get it, auditioned for TOP GUN: MAVERICK, didn't get it but that led to Tom Cruise personally calling him to invite him to MI7, then he had to drop that; and more recent he went up for the role of Superman in James Gunn's SUPERMAN: LEGACY and lost out to David Corenswet. We lost Nicky, which sucks, but we got Henry Czerny back.

And Rolf Saxon back as Donloe.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 7 and MISSION IMPOSSIBLE were to be filmed back-to-back, and I know there are filming (still) another MI7 but I am not clear on whether they just made MI8 Part 2 of Dead Reckoning or MI8 is it's on thing. What I do know is that the cast additions across the two films are:

Cary Elwes, Mark Gatiss, Indira Varma, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell (who was also in TOP GUN: MAVERICK), Hoyt McCallany, Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham.

-Simon Pegg has lovingly welcomed his new MI castmates Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff,

but his MI Day One /Work Wife remains Rebecca Ferguson.

He calls them Remon. I am sure he can workshop a better portmanteau than that.

Self-taught artist and musician Andrew Kinsman, sold his first piece of artwork when he was only twelve years old. He has painted commissions for celebrities and royalty alike, and has recorded soundtracks and albums with music novelties such as Noel Gallagher and English Rock Band, Kasabian.

Currently living in South London, after years spent in Cambridge, Bath, Bristol and Cyprus, Kinsman continues to passionately practice both art forms, dividing his time equally between the advancement of his musical career and continuing to acquire new and reputable art commissions.

“I'm often asked if I use projectors or trace which I know many artists that paint with my level of detail often do. I think these artists are generally surprised to see the beginnings of my work almost minimalist for want of a better word. To know that everything is completely mapped out, every detail to be merely filled in leaves no room for surprise. I love working and re working until I'm happy with the detail, colour and contrast of light and dark and seeing this come to life over time is the ultimate thrill of being an artist.”

Kinsman was drawn to art from a young age, but after his first major exhibition, aged twenty-one at The Victoria Art Gallery in Bath, he abandoned his art completely to focus solely on his music. In the following years, Kinsman devoted himself to the development of his musical talent and education. He began with the saxophone and would eventually learn to play the clarinet, flute and piano as well.  Eventually, it became apparent that Kinsman could no longer suppress his artwork for his music, realizing the necessity of both creative outlets in his life. He took up painting again, completing commissions for His Highness Sheik Mohammed, Sultan Al Thani of Qatar, American actor Rolf Saxon, and celebrity chef, Eric Lanlard. Following his work for Lanlard, Kinsman was commissioned by London’s Halcyon Gallery in 2011 to paint a distinguished portrait of the Hariri Family, Lebanon’s wealthiest and most powerful ruling family.  Ideas and Inspirations

During his formative years as an artist, Kinsman drew inspiration from a collection of books his parents owned entitled Great Artists. Within this collection, he found himself innately drawn to landscape painting, particularly to the works of English Romantic painters, John Constable and J.M.W. Turner. 

The trait Kinsman finds most captivating, which still influences his painting to this day, is the “ability to create a snapshot of real life;” to be able to physically paint the surroundings, emotions and thoughts enveloped in a single moment. His new collection was inspired by a painting which he completed in 2009, called 'Jeff'. This painting was in turn inspired by a lucid dream. The real life experience which later manifested into that dream was derived from a gig he did that same day. In between performances, bubbles were being blown against a black backdrop which acted as the stage. Kinsman was fascinated by the intense colors in their reflections.  Kinsman says: “I hate seeing a blank white canvas or board in front of me when starting a new painting. I think most artists find this a daunting task so I eliminate this by adding a raw umber wash to the surface, once dried its ready to start the drawing. I never labour over the drawing, as long as I have the measurements and proportions correct I'm happy to quickly block in basic colours. I almost relish the fact that this is the first glaze and so allow myself to play around knowing that this coat will be superseded by the next glaze and the next one after that. It’s always a process of correcting.”

4. favourite dish specific for your country?

I couldn't decide so have two "dishes" (descriptions copied from Wikipedia):

Currywurst: "a fast food dish of German origin consisting of steamed, and fried pork sausage (German: Bratwurst) typically cut into bite-sized chunks and seasoned with curry ketchup, a sauce based on spiced ketchup or tomato paste topped with curry powder, or a ready-made ketchup seasoned with curry and other spices. The dish is often served with fries."

The Leipziger Lerche: "a pastry of Leipzig. The name originates from the coveted delicacy popular in the Leipzig area until the 1870s. The dish used the actual songbird lark (German: Lerche), which was roasted with herbs and eggs and served as a filling in a pastry crust." Today it's not filled with birds because the hunting of larks got banned, so now it's actually a pastry, consisting of "a shortcrust filled with a mixture of crushed almonds, nuts and a cherry. The cherry symbolises the heart of the bird. It is topped with a grid of two crossed dough strips." (tho I prefer it without the cherry, seeing as it's often a sugared cherry or it got soaked in alcohol or smth *shudders*).

5. favourite song in your native language?

Uff, difficult🤔 idk... I like "Mein kleiner grüner Kaktus" either by Max Raabe or Comedian Harmonists (Max Raabe originally made music sounding just like them/like from the 20s but he started to make his own songs too and I can very highly recommend them). I also like "König von Deutschland" by Rio Reiser, or "Haus am See" by Peter Fox, same for "Millionär" and "Küssen verboten" by Die Prinzen (they have other good songs too, like "Mann im Mond" 🤣the euphemism in that song flew right over my head when I was younger🤣). For childhood memories I'd go to Rolf Zuckowski (my beloved❤️ who I'm sure shaped many people's childhoods, probably same as Peter Maffay).... Like, there are a lot, I couldn't decide in just one favorite... 😅

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?

First a word from one of the lesser liked accents (🙄prejudices that's what this is, as if the Berlin dialect or Bavarian sounds any better😜), Saxon: "Mutschekiepchen" or "Mot­sche­küh­chen", meaning "Marienkäfer", meaning ladybug🤣

Then of course a long word since this is German "Donaudampfschifffartsgesellschaftskapitänsmützen" (there are longer words but I like this one more), meaning Donau = Danube, Dampfschiff = steamship, Schiffahrt = shipping, Gesellschaft = company, Schiffahrtsgesellschaft = shipping company, Kapitän = captain, Mütze(n) = hat(s) -> Danube steamship shipping company's captains hats/Captain's hats of the Danube steamship shipping company.
