Headcanons towards animals/pets/insects? Is he a dog or cat person? Would he enjoy having pets? Is he scared/disgusted by bugs?

I assume these are for Rolan as well! What thought provoking questions!! I think I have a few ideas!

Rolan with Animals

I don't think he dislikes animals overall! He's aware that animals can be wonderful companions to have. He definitely prefers some over others though. I see him has a cat person, as most dogs are very messy and he doesn't want them ruining anything in the tower with their slobber. (Slobber grosses him out)

If his partner wanted pets, he wouldn't be against it, but if the animals tend to be messy he gets irritated. He likes having things neat, tidy, and in it's place. I think he can handle a cat or two, but nothing more than that.

It would be different if his partner had a familiar, he could never ask them not to summon them. But, respectively, if they're huge like a bear or wolf, please keep them away from certain areas of the tower. They could set off traps.

I know I said he was a cat person, but I can also see him liking bunnies! He won't admit it, but he thinks they're cute. Especially their angry thumping. He would totally argue back like how he would talk back to a meowing cat.

"You dare thump/yell at me? You're in my space and I am working! This will not be tolerated in my presence. I give you food, water, a comfortable bed, and this is how I'm repaid?"

If the animal enjoys it, he would playfully chase them if they had a close bond. It gets his mind off of his work for once and it's a rare instance of him having genuine fun. He'll feel like a child again in the best way. (He will never admit that)

He hates bugs. Mosquitos, flies, ants, cockroaches, pretty much all the pesky ones. He's disgusted by them would incinerate them on the spot if he had a choice, but he doesn't want to ruin the tower floors. He'll use Gust to push them out the door though. Gods he hated when bugs came into his tent while they were traveling on the road.

But I think some bugs would interest him! Like colorful beetles and dragonflies with their luminescent wings! He likes to appreciate them from afar when he's out in Bloombridge Park. (Hells forbid if they fly at him though)

Honestly, I've been thinking a lot about if he would like spiders or not, and for now I'll have to say no. Tiny spiders are pests at most and he wouldn't be too bothered, but if he finds one nearing the size of his palm? NO.

Thankfully, before he can think of killing them, Lia usually takes those spider outside herself. She would chastise him for nearly killing it as the spiders are part of a balanced ecosystem. Anytime there's a spider that size, just tell her and she'll take the damn thing.

He's not stupid, of course he knows how essential spiders are for the ecosystem, he just doesn't want any of them near his person. Those beady eyes they have are praying for his downfall.

Usually his main rule is no animals on the bed with him, but it's not like the animal will listen to him. It won't be uncommon to see him sleeping soundly, snuggled with the cat/dog/bunny that decided he needed company for the night.

How do the bachelors react to insects and spiders? I mean sure, they'd probably be able to take them outside or just squash them, but ever since Farkas Skyrim, dude with the strength of a God said he's disgusted by and scared of spiders, I keep thinking about these sort of things. Like yes, they can kill them, but I feel like Rolan at the very least would make the crying cat meme face the entire time in disgust.

Dammon

Dammon never notices when spiders are hanging around, possibly because he has more than a few in his forge

Despite keeping it nice and clean and outside forge is still a perfect place for spiders to hang out

Should you need someone to take a spider outside for you, Dammon is your man

He just cups it in his hands, no thoughts as to if it's venomous

The type to tease you by holding out the spider and watching you try to get away from him

There is one type of bug that Dammon isn't keen on at all, though

Praying mantises

He can't explain why, but they creep him out

Maybe it's the head eating after copulation stuff, maybe it's the way they seem to look into your soul

Dammon squeals every time one touches him

Zevlor

This brave paladin is equally relaxed around insects for the most part

Bugs or beetles aren't enough to scare him, and he's always willing to help you

Zevlor is a true gentleman and is always available to remove any creepy crawlies that are bothering you

He likes using a cup and paper to trap them before moving them outside

He's also happy to tell the kids interesting things about some of the odd insects the refugees come across

The one bug he absolutely will not touch is a centipede

And a millipede, too

Nothing needs that many legs, in Zevlors mind

You can visibly see how he pales at the mere sight of the little pests

Sorry, you'll need to deal with them yourself

Rolan

Rolan hates bugs

Hates them with a passion

There is no way this man is carefully carrying a bug outside for you because his first reaction is to squish it

He makes a face every time he sees a spider and it's all scrunched up and funny

If you laugh at him Rolan will tell you to 'deal with the damned thing yourself'

He still relies on Cal or Lia to help remove spiders from Ramaziths Tower

The one bug he not only stands, but also quite likes, is the dragonfly

Rolan thinks they're both fascinating and quite beautiful, particularly those with jewel colours

He probably gets himself a dragonfly brooch at some point

Rugan

This man talks big game

He can take on anything, he's manly as hell

But, he disappears whenever you point out a spider

Big manly man Rugan HATES spiders

He doesn't particularly like other bugs but he can live with them

Spiders are the absolute worst, in his opinion

He's willing to fight an owlbear, weaponless, in a dark cave but removing a spider is just a step too far for him

If you end up doing it yourself he's quite blasé about it all, feigning disinterest in the whole situation

However, if both of you hate spiders then you're screwed, I'm sorry

Rugan just can't get past those eight, spindly legs and half a dozen eyes

Rolan/Beetle Imagine/Short Ficlet

What if wizards channel the weave while dreaming in deep sleep?

Rating: Mature (for mention of boob grab) Fluff

Waking up next to a wizard would never cease to amaze Beetle.  On mornings when she wakes before him, she snuggles close to Rolan and watches the magical little apparitions that blip in and out of sight above his head, as if he is conjuring misty visuals of whatever he's dreaming of.  This morning, the glimmering strands of weave dancing around his sleeping head, look a bit like peaceful ocean waves. 

Beetle recalls not so very long ago, when they were living on the road instead of safe in their tower, Rolan's magic reflected nothing but pain, worry, loss and doubt.  Now, it seems like every time she gets to see them, they seem blissful, happy or playful.  While he slumbers beside her, Beetle gently caresses his horns, entranced by the shimmering halo of purple clouds above her lover's head. 

“Watching me while I sleep again?  What a creep.”  Rolan yawns, and just like that, the dream mist dissipates.  With a lazy smile on his face, he kisses Beetle's lips, wrapping his arms around her and laying his head on her chest.

“You were doing that thing again,” Beetle giggles softly, returning her hand to his head, running her claws through unruly hair and gently scratching his horns.

“What thing?” Rolan purrs, his tail twisting around Beetle’s until they make a tight helix together.  His own hands were busy kneading and groping at her thighs, her stomach, arms, breasts, anything he could squeeze with his claws to sample her flesh and assure himself he wasn't still dreaming. 

“That thing, you know, when you sleep so deeply that magic circles your horns?”  Beetle explains, tugging softly at his ear.  “Like a little ring of purple mist that moves with your thoughts?”

“Ah, that thing,” Rolan chuckles, lifting himself up on his elbows and looking her in the eyes.  “Dream Weave, I think Gale called it?”  He yawns again, a few tears forming in the corners of his eyes.  “You do enjoy staring at it don't you?”

“It's just another beautiful feature I adore about you, Rolo,” she sits up and kisses him deeply before stretching her arms to the ceiling.  As she begins to move to leave the bed, she tries to pull her tail from his but Rolan refuses to allow it. 

“Ah, I don't think so, darling bug,” says Rolan, with a sly grin.  “Tolna and Cal agreed to open the shop this morning and I refuse to let you leave this tower until the afternoon.”

“Ro, I've got to pee!!! Release my tail!!” Beetle laughs, crossing her legs and wiggling a little.

“Oh, fine!” He groans, still smiling as his tail relaxes and allows her to escape.  “But you better bring that tail straight back to me afterwards!”

“I can't even bring us snacks!?” She shouts as she walks away, swaying her rear end with enthusiasm.

“Alright!  Bring the snacks,” chuckles Rolan, as he watches the female tiefling's back side, ears twitching with every step she takes.  “But nothing that will leave excessive crumbs in the sheets!”

ive seen posts of people drawing him in his bug form(?) when becky turns him into a bug(?) idk, but i see a lot of people using spiders, centipedes, etc. BUT i think we’re all missing out on a golden opportunity of the goliath beetle.

i mean— just look at the thing!! it’s his colors and i mean the actual bug is fuckin HUGE! the goliath beetle will bite you if you disturb it, but it’s overall docile!! it can lift things up to 850 times heavier than it!! isnt that cool!!

maybe i’m just letting my love for bugs get to me but idk

Hey fellow bugs, do we have like a general consensus on what type of bug Rolan is? I think bee/wasp was going around for a bit but I’ve also seen mantis, fly, and I’ve personally drawn him as a beetle and cicada a few times so Im not sure
