How a small Portable Turntable Gadget brought my grandfather back to life.

Studies have shown that music can help heal disease. The truth is that I couldn’t believe it, but the experience with my grandfather and a particular turntable changed my perspective.

I am Jimmy. I’m 37 years old and I grew up listening to the greatest 60s, 70s and 80s rock hits. My grandfather Harold is responsible for that childhood full of fun and culture.

My grandfather used to have a giant vinyl record collection from the best bands of the time: Pink Floyd, The Doors, Guns and Roses, Poison, Metallica, Iron Maiden and so on. It was a small mountain of vinyl records; his musical artillery hidden in the closet.

He used to take his turntable out to the living room every afternoon and we both listened to the best guitar solos of Slash and Kirk Hammett. We were always humming the chorus of “Paint it Black” or “November Rain”. I had a happy childhood, although I confess that the horn of his record player was a bit noisy.

At the beginning of 2000, the economy in my home was fragile and my grandfather had to sell many things like his TV, a European coin collection, a Pete Rose-signed baseball and, of course … his old turntable.

My grandfather’s vinyl records became a memory in his closet. Then I went to a university outside the city, so I was away from my grandfather for several years.

In late 2018, my grandfather was diagnosed with chronic pneumonia. He was bedridden and down; my mom could barely convince him to eat once a day.

I visited him whenever I had time. My grandfather was always sad; even her memories were depressing. He talked about his memories of the post war, his job failures, fines, etc. He was sad and very angry. His pneumonia worsened at the end of 2019.

One day I was in his room and I noticed that he kept his vinyl record collection in his closet. It was amazing that he still had more than 100 records of the best rock of the Golden Age.

At that moment, I remembered reading an article by the neurologist Eckart Altenmüller about music and its impact on the body and mind.

The article discussed the power of music as a tool in neurological rehabilitation or as a possible mechanism to promote brain plasticity. So I thought maybe listening to the music we used to enjoy when I was a child could help my grandfather feel happier, despite his illness.

I looked for turntables at local stores, but they were expensive. I looked for turntables in online stores, so the problem was its price and shipping cost, because we live in a remote city.

Finally I found a RokBlok, when I saw it I asked myself ‘How can that rectangular box play the music on my grandfather’s vinyl records?’ I thought: well, its price is cheap, it is small and my grandfather could take it from the room to the patio because it is light. And guess what? I bought it, and it was delivered in a week, on a Friday afternoon at my home.

Next day I went to my grandfather’s house early, but he was asleep. Mom told me that he couldn’t sleep because of his cough. Still I didn’t give up. I looked for a Poison vinyl record and left it on a straight table where I placed the RokBlok… et voilá! “Every rose has its thorn” started playing and my grandpa jumped out of bed excited.

My grandfather could not believe what he saw and heard. He immediately looked at the vinyl record as the RokBlok rolled in a circle and played one of our favorite tracks. My grandfather asked me with a huge smile: “Son, what is that? It sounds great!”

Guess what? After a week, my grandfather had listened to more than half of his old rock vinyl records again. He was my happy grandfather.

Mom was surprised that my grandfather ate more often and had started helping with some housework while the RockBlok played his favorite music.

Last week was my grandfather’s 75th birthday and he looked great. His acute coughing fits decreased and he follows his treatment. And guess what? We celebrate his birthday with the RokBlok and a pair of wireless speakers, thanks to the integrated Bluetooth connection to the RokBlok. Now the old vinyl records sound great and my grandpa is always happy.

Alhamdulillah semua aktiviti berjalan lancar sehari sebelum tdo dah cari content utk ucap tido dan info Quamullail.

Tdo jam 12mlm setelah maafkan semua orang. Mmg sangat yakin dapat bangun awal.

Bangun 3:45..post kelebihan Tahajud. Bersuci diri.

4:15 solat sunat wuduk, qada solat fardu isyak (smlm solat berjemaah dgn family sempat qada 1 solat shj),

Solat tahajjud, solat hajat

Allah bg petunjuk dlm solat supaya tujuan utama sekarang ialah nak membalas Jasa ibubapa dan berbakti kpd mereka dan selepas tu baru org kekeliling dan masyarakat.

ALLAH bg petunjuk kena bagi duit kpd ma dan ayah (bg kpd ma) rm500 sebulan untuk permulaan. Dan Allah Sertakan jalan penyelesaian sekali. Tiap2 bulan aku dpt rm700 dari salah satu investment dan masuk akaun ayah.). 200 aku ambil rm500 biarkan dlm akaun akau keluarkan bg cash.. (aku prefer cash blh jumpa at least 1 bulan 1 x). Allah bg jalan penyelesaian sekali.. Alhamdulillah

Aku teruskan solat hajat. Hajat yang utama skrg sebelum hajat lain aku nak ma ayah sihat, panjang umur, dirahmati Allah, bahagia dan bg aku peluang untuk membalas Jasa mereka.. Panjang kan umur mereka.. Aku mohon sgt2 bagi aku masa untuk berjaya. Sekarang baru nak panjat tangga pertama ada 100 anak tangga.. Inshaallah aku sangat yakin boleh naik tangga sampai ke bumbung atas bangunan.. Yang paling tinggi boleh panjat.. Aku xnak jatuh lagi. Mereka lah Big Why kenapa aku buat semua ini. Tanpa mereka aku xwujud di muka bumi.

Singgah di Kg Banggol Kulim Mek Nab jam 4ptg bru selesai.. Aduh sakitnya keluaran Akbar harian. Aku buat lawatan.

Buka poso kat surau JPJ gua musang. Ada rokblok 30minit keto jalan mcam siput. Decide buka poso dalm keto sebelah surau.. Adik bagi bekalan makanan, tapau dalam packaging A A.. Lauk masih panas walaupun dah lebih 6 jam. Terima kasih adik.. Kakcik. Solat magrib & isyak (jamak qasar) xsempat nk qada klu lewat sampai.

Perjalanan di teruskan.sampai petronas raub jam1145.. Berhenti rehat dan niat nak tdo kat situ je. .. Testimoni covid.. Hntr ke semua socmed termasuk wasap.. Tiada coretan. Mungkin ubah hntr testimoni probio HD je.. Jam 12mlm hntr selamat malam..

Bil elektrik dan air mmg aku sentiasa advance byr (perancangan jika satu hari xboleh byr) masa ada duit lebih aku byr lebih. Td wife call cakap anak demam panas...minta aku balik cepat. Badan sgt panas.. Dah la elektrik tak ada. Aku bertenang walaupun dalam hati Allah shj yang tahu.. Aku ckp dah otw balik.. Lepas cuci muka buang air kecil aku terus speed balik.. Dalam perjalanan aku minta wife bg minum air gamat dan spray badan dgn probio HD sbb aku tahu akan sejukan badan cepat dan salah satu cara buang haba.. Sampai sebelum tol Gombak ada rokblok aku x perasan sebb fikiran melayang.. Aku bawak laju.. Nasib baik sempat break tp polis dah perasan. Aku buat natural je.. Mereka minta aku bukak cermin belakang nak buat sport cek.. Dia tanya barang apa dlm Gabus.. Aku cakap ikan utk buat makan.. Dia tanya lagi betul ke? Aku ckp selamber jela betul.. Akhirnya dia mitak surat... Kalut aku cari sbb gelap. Aku buka tali pinggang cari cari surat.. Jumpa bg dia tgk. Ok dia puas hati.. Selamat risau banyk kerenah rugi msa.. Aku nak tgk anak dan nk selesaikan masalah elektrik dan ibadah.. Terkejar2 masa. Akhirnya sampai kat security jam 4pg.. Aku bergegas angkat semua barang2 dalm kereta guna trolley. Jumpa security cakap elektrik ada masalah aku dah cek incoming mmg xmasuk.. Kalut 4 5 org security pg ni sbb aku sedikit Marah. (saja buat Garang.. Hihi)

Rupanya kat panel tnb luar ada masalah contact.. Akhirnya nyala tapi lampu kelip2. Aku report lagi.. Aku tutup semua alatan yg guna current besar sbb takut rosak.. Voltage xcukup sbb masalah contact.. Kemudian elektrik terpadam lagi..aku call lagi.. Dtg cek.. Hampir 1 jam aku duk main dgn security akhirnya jumpa masalah.. Dia tunjuk fius problem panas.. Aku cakap ada masalah lain. Mungkin ada wayar short buatkan jadi panas.. Tapi minta aku report sendiri dgn TNB.. Aku cakap baik lah.. Dia pasang balik fius.. Tgk macam ok dah.. Xpe klu jadi lagi aku buat report esok..

Aku bersiap. Nak solat Tahajud.. Jam 5:15 bermula, solat tahajjud, solat taubat..

Masa solat taubat, aku terlintas semua bapa dan ibu saudara sebelah ayah dan juga ma.. Dan sepupu dan semua waris2 aku..

Mula2 ingat aku suruh minta maaf Lama2 aku faham minta tanya kabar dan jgn putuskan hubungan silaturrahim antara keluarga.. Alhamdulillah.. Inshaallah. Sebelum ni aku mmg tak ambil tahu langsung pasal saudara mara inshaallah lepas ni aku akan tanya kabar semua Kalau boleh...

Seharian aku hntr produk dan barang kepada customer di Shah Alam, TTDI dan Seri Kembangan,... Batu cave dan cheras(postpone malam) xsempat nak pergi sbb berkejaran masa. Sampai rumah jam 8:10mlm. 8mlm juga aku ada kelas marketing.

Aku bergegas solat magrib setibanya dirumah, habis solat xsempat berdoa aku terus buka laptop utk menimba ilmu.

Jam830.. Aku terlepas permulaan. Nasib baik bila join baru bincang Point pertama.. Agak ya baru bermula.. Alhamdulillah aku dapat ilmu satu2 aku Catatkan.

[Masa carat coretan ni aku tgh bersahur utk puasa.. Tgk jam ada 2 minit lagi minuman belum habis. Aku stop tulis jap sambung minum sampai habis... Lepas tu aku bersuci dalam mulut (guna water frost). Habis je cuci azan subuh berkumandang..] sambung cerita

Jam 10:00mlm customer call minta hntr barang di cheras.. Aku minta masa cakap nak habiskan kelas jap lepas tu aku pergi. Dia ok je..

Aku sempat solat isyak.. Tapi Tak sempat nak zikir & berdoa terus aku bergegas ke cheras. Aku bawak anak2 sebab ingatkan hanya hantar dan explain cara guna produk. Beliau mempunyai masalah buah pinggang yang diminta buat dialisis pada 17mac2021 (buat tapak). Bacaan creatinine beliau melebihi 600 dan tahap 5. Beliau juga ada masalah diabetis insulin 4x sehari dan jari kaki sebelah kiri dan kena potong (dah sembuh) akibat diabetis tak terkawal. Ada masalah darah tinggi dan masalah obes. Umo 50an,wanita.

Aku sampai di rumahnya jam 10:30mlm rupanya mereka menunggu kedatangan aku..ada 3 orang. Mak saudaraya dan juga sepupu (anak kpd mak saudaranya itu) umo anggaran 60an. Dan anaknya lebih kurang 40tahun.

Mereka jemput aku masuk.. Aku masuk dan aku xsampai hati nak tinggal barang mcm tu je. Aku buat LIVE selepas penerangan masalah beliau dan mencuba rawatan dgn sedikit shj dulu sebb beliau mempunyai masalah potassium.. Dan xboleh minum air byk melebihi 500ml sehari. Sbb kaki, muka dan badan dah bengkak air.

Aku minta izin bawa anak 2 aku masuk skali sbb lama tinggal dalam Kereta..dia suruh bawa masuk dan tegur xelok tinggal mereka kat luar tanpa pengawasan. Silap aku juga.

Setelah sesi live dan rawatan mata ibu saudaranya, aku minta izin utk pulang.. Jam 11:30 sudah. Aku belum buat copywriting dan edit video utk post malam ni.

Sampai rumah jam 11:45 aku semakin terkejar masa dan kelebihan sehari suntuk buat kerja.

Aku gagahi juga siapkan video pasal covid-19 yang dah sembuh selepas guna probio HD. Aku masukan dlm YouTube dan post ke semua media sosial aku.. Jam 12:15 aku dah tertelap tanpa sedar tak sempat hantar selamat malam kepada warga maya..

Aku tersedar jap terus masuk bilik tdo.. Jam 12:30

Bangun jam 4:45pg (agak lewat) aku terus bersuci dan cari info Qiamullail (agak lama) dan edit balik video yang aku buat sbb ada sedikit kesilapan ayat takut orang salah faham sbb isu covid sgt sensitif.

Siap semua aku terus solat wuduk jam 5:20pg, solat tahajjud

Masa solat tahajjud aku dapat rasanya pendengaran aku sgt jelas. Mcm berfungsi 100%. Sebelum ni kadang2 macam ada sedikit gangguan mcm tertutup telinga sebelah kanan.alhamdulillah mungkin aku nak bg aku kesihatan.. Dan aku tak harapkan keajaiban setiap kali aku Qiamullail.. Walaupun xberi apa2 petunjuk aku pasrah sbb aku hanya mahu keredhaanNya sahaja dan ingin menjadi hamba yang taat kepada Penciptanya. Inshaallah

Aku sambung solat hajat.. Selesai semua aku lihat jam sudah jam 6.aku ada 17 minit utk sahur..(telur ayam kampung saiz kecil aku rebus 4 biji sebelum solat sunat.

Dan semasa sahur hingga azan subuh aku menulis coretan ini.

6:40 aku stop tulis utk solat fardu subuh.. Bersambung rutin harian harini kelas marketing dari jam 8pg hingga 6 petang. Harap dipermudahkan segalanya.. Aamin
