A-T-4 137 Muslimgauze
Empty Quarter (PTI) from Hunting Out With An Aerial Eye
youtube
Dissidents In Exile from Buddhist On Fire
youtube
Two long experimental tracks from Bryn Jones in his Muslimgauze guise. The music will become more arabesque as Muslimgauze develops over the next decade and a half. From the get go Muslimgauze's themes are political and this will become more explicit with each release
Like Zachary Francis Condon's european folk project Beirut, or Spencer Doran's various Japanese inspired releases, or David "Ram Jam" Rodigan, Bryn Jones wasn't born into the culture that inspired him. Born at the beginning of the 1960s he was a white guy from very white predominantly christian Salford
The question of authenticity and deception hangs over Bryn Jones
Muslimgauze's third (maybe fourth) studio album Buddhist On Fire was released by Southport based record label Recloose Organisation
Southport is currently in the news for the worst reason. There's something wrong if you haven't been shook by the murder of three girls aged six to nine, another eight injured with stab wounds, at a yoga and dance workshop on Monday. As Southport is grieving from the misogynist killing spree racist hooligans turned up to randomly kick off at muslims, causing more pain to the community. The rioting by the far-right has created noise that has drowned out information and diverted attention away from the murders and what is happening to the 17-year-old the police have in custody. Even factual reports have lost focus and become about Tommy Robinson's useful idiots the EDL convening in Southport to riot and how they were mobilised/duped into doing so by a bunch of grifters spreading misinformation

26/05/2024 - Cross the Tracks festival at Brockwell Park. George had booked the tickets and in hadn’t known what to expect. Turns out it was a day full of great music, with some artists I actually knew, including Eve (who George especially enjoyed given the arseless chaps) and En Vogue, who ultimately headlined as Eryka Badu had fallen ill. We also enjoyed David Rodigan, who I’d not heard of but was pretty entertaining. It was lovely to bump into Jess from netball, who spotted me bopping away.

Romain Virgo to Release "The Gentle Man" – Fourth Studio Album
New Post has been published on https://plugzafrica.com/romain-virgo-to-release-the-gentle-man-fourth-studio-album/
Romain Virgo to Release "The Gentle Man" – Fourth Studio Album
Jamaican reggae star Romain Virgo is set to share his fourth studio album, The Gentle Man, on March 1. The twelve-track project will be out digitally and on CD via VP Records.
The Gentle Man is Romain Virgo’s most candid body of work to date. The singer questions, deconstructs and affirms his beliefs, sharing clear-eyed perspectives across a dozen tracks. He challenges what it means to be a man in Caribbean culture, explores the highs and lows of ‘Afromantic’ relationships, and, in the process, blends classic, foundational sounds with modern sonics.
“I kept some important questions in mind while working on this album. Who am I to my fans? To those close to me? To myself? People saw me go from this inexperienced youth with a gentle way of doing things to a man with the same morals, but new understanding. With this project, I present my full, authentic self. This is who I am,” said Romain Virgo.
With production credits from Donovan ‘Don Corleon’ Bennett, Oliver ‘Cadenza’ Rodigan, Phillip ‘Winta’ James, Romeich Major, Maurice ‘Seani B’ Delauney, Nicholas ‘Niko’ Browne, among others, The Gentle Man builds on Romain’s soul-stirring reggae palette, closing the gaps between roots reggae, lover’s rock, Afrobeats, and more.
He’s joined by dancehall phenom Masicka on the album opener, “Been There Before”; delivers a heartfelt tribute to single mothers with Nigerian reggae-fusionist Patoranking (“I Believe”); and closes out the album with hard-hitting features from the multi-generational Jamaican talents Jesse Royal (“Bridges”) and Capleton (“You Must Pay”).
Romain Virgo has dropped four singles in the lead-up to the album: “Good Woman,” “Driver,” “Switch You On,” and, most recently, “Been There Before.” The latest track was released on January 26.
In support of his upcoming album, Romain Virgo will perform in Jamaica in February, throughout the North-East and South of the United States in March, at several festivals across the Caribbean in April, and in Europe from June to August, including at Summerjam in Germany in July.
The Gentle Man will be out on all streaming platforms and CD on March 1.
