It was evening, one of our many evenings. We were again in the closed courtyard. It was summer, and the fountain gave off damp coolness. Fire from the torches flowed in its liquid streams, the water whined and begged for rest. The serving boys poured Shiraz wine into our cups, the dense scent of musk and perfume hung heavily over the paving stones—there was no breeze to dilute it.

Initially just flirts with Fiyero to annoy Galinda, feelings develop between them after the after helping Elphaba free the lion cub.
