STEX APPRECIATION MONTH DAY 11: ROCKIES

Favorite Actor(s): Rocky 1: Danny John Jules Rocky 2: Jay Le Marrec Rocky 3: Priscilla Osegie (i must confess these choices arent really based on much lol)

Favorite Song/Scenes: They are the best part of Poppa/Momma's blues I love watching them just dance and be silly. And of course I love Right Place Right Time especially when the actors do the choreo really well.

Favorite Costume(s): I think the Japan Tour and early Bochum really had it down they were so crisp. I'm so fond of Broadway's orange Rocky 1 though it's so funny

Favorite Ships/Friendships: I really like Rocky 1 x British Engine but other than that -3-. Platonically I really like them with the rest of the freight and Rusty! I imagine they love pushing Flat Top's buttons lol

Headcanons: There are a million Rockies. All over the world. Every color known to man. If you put too many together they start having dance battles instead of doing their work.

Unpopular Opinion: I like their costumes way better without the shoulder boxes on I'm honestly glad they don't wear them for long LMAO.

Favourite Song/Scenes: Vegas boot where they fight a gang member bullying Rusty! There are also some boots where they square up whenever Greaseball's bothering Rusty or Poppa. Nobody touches their steamers! I also love watching them during Poppa/Momma's blues and Right Place, Right Time!

Favourite Costumes: I love the early Bochum costumes (pink Rocky you will always be famous to me) but I am partial to the 2018 Bochum update color line-up (blue 1, yellow 2, green 3). I like their boxing gloves too but they need to BRING👏BACK👏THE👏BOOTY👏SHORTS

Favourite Ships/Friendships: Rocky 1 x Brexit!! I don't think I have any other Rocky ships EDIT: I FOROR TO ADD FRIENDSHIPS D: They are friends with the freight crew, Rusty, Momma/Poppa, the coaches, and Memphis Belle!

Headcanons: I'm a 4 Rockies truther because the more the merrier!! (and Rocky 4 gets to be pink 😌) They taught Rusty the correct way to punch and block so he can defend himself better when they're not around

Unpopular Opinion: I have no idea how popular/unpopular this is but they could probably get away with casting the Rockies completely gender blind instead of having 1 token female (also stop giving her bright red lipstick please and thank you)

Freight Appreciation Week Day Five: Rockies

The most precious of stones! The colors have been kinda moved around throughout the history of StEx, but I maintain the current colors in my headcanon - blue Rocky 1, yellow Rocky 2, and green Rocky 3! Rocky 3 is also female. They're not actually related, but they've been around each other their whole lives, so they might as well be. Very strong sibling energy! <;3 Rocky 1 is skeptical and cynical, Rocky 2 is sweet and a ray of sunshine, and Rocky 3 is a tomboy and actually does smoke weed occasionally.

Rocky 2 stood in front of the mirror, trying not to frown as he studied his reflection. 

He didn’t look bad, not by a longshot. He looked, unsurprisingly, like a boxcar; he was a hard worker and it showed. His paint was a bit dingy, scuffed and scratched in the usual locations. His hands were rough and calloused, not only from his work on the track but from some old boxing injuries as well. He’d given himself an extra-good scrubbing, but even that hadn’t managed to get all the dirt out of the gaps between his wood paneling. 

Normally, Rocky 2 didn’t mind how he looked at all. He was always far prouder of his physical skill and how much he was capable of rather than his appearance. 

But tonight was different. Tonight, Caboose wanted to go out to a fancy restaurant. 

Fancy and Rocky didn’t quite go hand in hand. Again, that wasn’t something that usually bothered Rocky 2. He was more of a rough and tumble kind of guy, and there was nothing wrong with that. He was still kind, and that’s what mattered. 

(And if he personally found that sort of rich crowd to be stuffy and stuck-up, then that was his business.)

But Caboose? Caboose loved fancy things. The shiny jewelry and expensive food and extra polish—all of it was right up Caboose’s alley.

Despite the two of them being polar opposites in that regard, they’d never had any trouble in their relationship. Caboose, for all his love of finery, didn’t mind going out to more casual places on their dates. He was never uncomfortable in scenes like that, and while he might have gotten more enjoyment out of going to a fine dining restaurant if he were alone, he got the same level of enjoyment going anywhere with Rocky 2.

Rocky 2 had punched his shoulder and called him a sap when he said that, but that was more to detract attention away from the blush that was spreading across his cheeks.

He’d been thinking about that conversation a lot recently. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that Caboose had been compromising with him on every single date they went on. They both wanted to be together, but Caboose wanted to go someplace fancy and he knew that Rocky 2 didn’t, so they went wherever Rocky 2 wanted and Caboose never mentioned it.

It would be easy enough to write off the whole situation, to say that Caboose never complained about going to the more casual places so that meant that he didn’t mind, or that Caboose never suggested going to someplace fancy so that meant he didn’t really want to go, but Rocky 2 knew better. Caboose was a known complainer, yes, but only with people he didn’t particularly care for. With the people he was close with—most notably, Rocky 2—he’d keep his gripes to himself unless things got really heinous. 

And on top of that, Rocky 2 had recently realized that Caboose had been suggesting the fancier restaurants. A few days before they settled on the finer details of a date they were planning, he would bring up in passing some bit of news: a new five-star restaurant was opening up in the city; a local fine-dining place had just changed their menu; critics were fawning over the opera that was being performed downtown, and he’d been to a really good restaurant just around the corner from the opera house.

Every time Caboose brought something like that up, Rocky 2 brushed it aside. A five-star restaurant? Those prices must be outrageous; who would pay for that when a burger is just as good? A new menu at the local place? Why do restaurants have to change their menu? Seems unnecessary. That opera is getting good reviews? Good for them, but he still couldn’t imagine doing anything but sleeping through it.

He hadn’t been trying to be mean about it. Whenever Caboose mentioned it, it just seemed like he was starting a conversation, so Rocky 2 responded in kind. He gave his honest opinions and thought nothing of it. He hadn’t known they were date ideas. He hadn’t meant to be shutting Caboose down so frequently like that.

The next time they were planning a date, he was listening. He was ready. They were just talking on one of their breaks, the conversation meandering from topic to topic, when Caboose brought up the fact that a famous chef had been invited in as a guest chef at a nearby steakhouse.

Rocky 2 knew the place he was talking about. He’d never been, but even the outside of the building was swanky enough for him to know that it wasn’t for him. Rather than mentioning that, he said, “That’s cool. Do you want to go?”

“What?” Caboose looked startled, like he hadn’t been expecting Rocky 2 to pick up on the unspoken idea of going there, let alone be on board with it. 

Ignoring the nerves tingling up his spine, Rocky 2 shrugged as casually as he could manage. “You seem pretty excited about it. You don’t think all the reservations would be booked already, do you?”

“No, no I’m sure I can get us in. But…”

“But what?”

“I don’t know. It’s pretty expensive.”

Caboose was giving him an out. Maybe he thought Rocky 2 didn’t know the place, didn’t know how fancy it was. Maybe he thought Rocky 2 was just agreeing to make him happy, but once he saw the menu and style he’d feel uncomfortable and regret it.

But Rocky 2 knew what he was walking into. He gave Caboose a smirk. “That’s why you’re paying, right?”

Caboose laughed, and it was such a wonderful sound that it unwound the nervous knot in Rocky 2’s chest. “Sure, yeah,” he said, still laughing around his words. “Whatever you want.”

That had been two weeks ago. During that time, Rocky 2 had managed to put just what he had signed up for out of his mind. He let himself be excited for their date and didn’t give himself a second to ruminate on just how fancy of a restaurant they were headed to.

But now that it was time to leave, he wasn’t so sure. Despite all his best efforts, he didn’t look fancy. He would stick out like a sore thumb in that steakhouse, and that was just based on his appearance. When it came to how to act in a fine-dining environment, whatever sort of table etiquette he’d have to manage, he was sure it would only get worse.

He had a thought to call it off, if only to save Caboose the humiliation of having to go out to a place like that with someone like him. Caboose could take one of his other friends in his place; Electra or Carrie or even Dinah. But…

Rocky 2 bit his lip. Caboose had been so excited for this date. He wasn’t just looking forward to going to the restaurant, he was looking forward to going to the restaurant with Rocky 2. After how many times Rocky 2 had unknowingly denied him that pleasure, he wasn’t going to do it again.

He took a deep breath, trying to bolster his confidence. It was only one night. If it didn’t go well, nothing would happen. Caboose wouldn’t dump him, they wouldn’t get banned from the restaurant. If worse came to worst, he would just have to put up with one awkward date, and that was it. He’d even get some good food out of it, so really, it couldn’t be all bad.

Nodding to himself, Rocky 2 took off his helmet and gloves. He spent a few minutes fixing his hair before giving his reflection one final appraisal. This was about as presentable as he was ever going to get. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad; hopefully it was decent enough.

By the time he left their room, Caboose was waiting for him by the door. “Ready to go?”

Rocky 2 nodded. “All set.”

Caboose held a hand out to him, which Rocky 2 took gladly. As they made their way out of the house, Caboose leaned further and further into Rocky 2’s side, resting his head against Rocky 2’s shoulder at what had to be an uncomfortable angle.

When Rocky 2 turned to look at him, Caboose was smiling up at him. “You look good,” he said softly.

Rocky 2 shrugged one shoulder—the one Caboose wasn’t leaning on. “I guess I clean up okay.”

“More than okay,” Caboose said. He straightened up just enough to pull Rocky 2 into a quick kiss. Rocky 2 was smiling like a loon when they pulled apart, but so was Caboose, so he figured that was okay.

“I’m really looking forward to this,” Caboose said, giving his hand an excited squeeze.

Rocky 2 was being completely honest when he responded, “Me too.”
