This is my third attempt at posting this. I keep deleting it before I post.
This is a first draft of the scene from my VoicePlay fic on Ao3 where Geoff rescues Cesar. Geoff's original kill count by the end of the fic was going to stand at 9, but as the story went on I felt it was more "in character" for him to not have a trail of bodies behind him.
Also, in the first drafts Ir'sia was posing as a government-employed vampire hunter and employed humans to do her dirty work for her. They managed to get Kathy, William, Layne, and Eli before Geoff knew something was wrong. He's understandably furious as he goes to intercept Cesar.
***
Cesar tried to keep himself calm as the car went on, but that was hard to do with the gun pressing into his right side. The guy on his left was fidgeting constantly and kept looking out the windows, which added to his own nervousness.
And the driver's too, apparently. "Will you calm down?"
The nervous guy frowned. "I keep thinking we're being watched."
"You're paranoid," the guy with the gun said. "No one even knows the kid's missing yet. And he ain't gonna give us any trouble." The gun dug into Cesar's ribs. "Are you?"
"No," Cesar growled.
"Good boy." He looked over at his nervous friend. "Now calm your ass."
The driver sighed. "I'm gonna cut through the back streets. Get out of this traffic." The car made a right turn, and began to go down an alley. A few streets later they were cut off when a white van pulled to a stop in front of them. The driver slammed on his brakes and laid on the horn--
Geoff popped out of the van, landed on the car's hood and punched through the windshield. The glass was still cracking when Geoff grabbed the driver and bashed his head against the steering wheel before turning his attention to the shotgun seat. The gun in Cesar's ribs turned toward Geoff, and Cesar punched the gunman in the face with his bound hands as the nervous man bailed out.
The sound of breaking bone came to Cesar's ears as the man riding shotgun slumped over. A second later the door behind the gunman was literally ripped from its hinges and Geoff pulled the man out of his seat with enough force to break the seatbelt. Cesar heard the man's skull crack as Geoff bashed his head against the pavement, and when he looked out of the car blood was already starting to run over the ground. Geoff looked up at Cesar. "You okay?"
"Sure." He looked at Geoff's bloodstained hands as he reached in the car and examined the cuffs on Cesar's wrists. "What's going on?"
"Someone wants my attention." Geoff grabbed the chain with both hands and pulled, and Cesar jumped when the metal snapped. "Get in the van and drive. I'll catch up."
"Where are you going?"
"After the last guy."
Cesar shook his head. "He's long gone."
Geoff smiled. "I have his scent. Now get going."
"Wha--" Cesar blinked as he realized Geoff was already gone. He barely caught a glimpse of his friend as he rounded the corner in a blur.
He got in the still-running van and began to drive as Geoff had told him. After a few blocks he had to pull into a parking lot to gather his nerves. He rested his head against the steering wheel and took several long, deep breaths.
I don't know what's going on, but God, I hope I wake up soon.
***
Layne looked up from where he was sitting as he heard a phone ring. The elderly man pulled a phone from his pocket and answered it. "Yes?"
The man on the other end screamed so loudly that Layne could hear him clearly. "You son of a bitch!" The other captors turned to look toward the elder as the screaming continued. "You lied to us! You said those charms would protect us!"
Brownbeard took the phone from the elderly man and put it on speaker. "Todd. Is that you? What happened?"
"Castellucci happened! He killed them! He killed them!" The man--Todd--gasped for breath. "He impaled Jon on the steering wheel! He snapped Vic's neck!"
Layne couldn't help but smile, and when he looked at Eli the smaller man was grinning as well. Looks like this round went to the good guys.
Then it hit him.
Geoff had just killed two people.
Their captors looked uneasy--except for Blondie, Layne noticed. She looked...pleased.
"What about James?"
"He was fighting with the kid. I got the hell out of there."
"Coward," Blondie said in a low voice.
"Come back to the warehouse," the elderly man ordered.
"Oh fuck no. You can keep your money. I'm not going anywhere near--" The voice cut off for a few seconds.
"Todd?" The captor asked.
"No," Todd gasped in utter terror. There was a clatter as if the phone had hit the ground, and Todd's voice receded. "No. Please, no. We weren't going to hurt the kid!"
Geoff's voice was a low, angry rumble. "Where are they."
"Wha--what?"
"Where are they?! My wife! My child! My friends! Where are they! Who has them! Tell me now!"
Todd's voice became high, hysterical. "Please! I don't want to die!" He screamed, but it became muffled as if a hand had been clamped over Todd's mouth.
Geoff's tone was blood-chilling when he spoke next. "You had your chance to confess. Now, I'll find out for myself." Then quiet.
The man with the phone frowned. "What's happening?"
"He's likely drinking," Blondie said, that pleased smirk still on her face. She took the phone. "He'll find out everything he wants to know from the blood."
The other captors' uneasiness increased, and Layne's stomach began to feel queasy. Drinking. He could imagine it easily.
Brownbeard finally looked at the others. "That's it. I'm out."
The elderly man frowned. "You can't quit now."
"I'm not giving my life to save yours. You said those crosses would protect us--"
"And I told you," Blondie said, "that those crosses wouldn't help. Castellucci's older than Christianity. Those symbols mean nothing to him." She looked at Brownbeard. "If you want to save your life, you'll see this through. Now he knows everything Todd knew. He knows where we are. And he's going to come for what's his and you've already heard he's willing to kill for it. Your only hope of survival is to help me capture him."
Layne wondered at her tone. There was a seriousness about it, but also a satisfaction. As if she'd planned for all this and everything was going exactly as she wanted.
But Eli had caught something else. "Hold it. You're seriously standing there and telling us that Geoff is more than two thousand years old?"
Blondie looked over. "Of course not. He's over seven thousand years old.
"Oh sure," Eli said sarcastically. "Of course. After all, there's nothing a guy who's lived for seven thousand years wants to do more than settle down, start a family, join an acapella group, post videos to social media. Makes perfect sense!"
"Those things feed his vampiric need for love and adoration."
"Those sound like very human needs to me," Layne said.
Blondie opened her mouth, but then Geoff's voice came over the phone. "I assume you're still listening."
"Of course we are, Av'osk," Blondie said.
Silence. When Geoff spoke next, his voice was like icicles being stabbed into Layne's stomach. "Ir'sia."
"Yes, Av'osk, it's me. It's been a long time."
"If you have harmed so much as a hair on their heads--"
"Calm yourself, Av'osk. Your humans are safe. And they will not be harmed as long as you come and surrender yourself to me."
"I'm coming," he growled. "And this time, I swear on whatever soul I have that I'll make sure you're dead!"

Vance/Vic the Brake Van is a rare sight to see. I'm interested in what you have to show in the future.
I also love to see GB being hostile to Electra. Do not wait dear, help him out with your own two hands.

Beautiful BC (Jan 2020, Sept 2020, Sept 2021, Xmas 2021)
Though COVID slammed the brakes on travel, we were still able to make it out west to Van and Vic to visit fam, walk on beaches, wake up and see the mountains, jog by the sea, share some good meals, take a few daytrips (Sooke, wineries, Lighthouse Park, cycle day, Salt Spring Island), and spend 5 days in sunny gorgeous Kelowna for Em and Kav's perfect sunset wedding with unforgettable antipasti and lake views.

My list of reasons
Electra arrives late and they fail at everything you set out to do.
There is implied no/dubious consent in AC/DC with lyrics + Pearl's movements in show. This also has other trains being moved unwillingly by Electra's literal magnetic ability. (I have no idea how the entire fandom missed this acting/choreography. Why isn't he a maglev?)
....
Ways to fix the play after removal:
Pearl already goes for Greaseball in Pumping Iron. Have him take her earlier in the play. This makes time for post races for GB and Dinah to have a make up couples duet.
GB fighting with Electra before control says quiet can just be him bickering with Rusty. This also eliminates Dinah getting hurt by Electra (the zap).
CB/Vic Brake Van can plot with Rusty to take out GB to bring back Pearl to him because if he is out of the race then Pearl HAS to pick you(this happens anyway in the standard musical). CB/Vic has the same plan of taking out Rusty when talking to GB.
Rap is generally the sameish.
I could write more but work is soon!
Moment of truth here. What's THAT character in Stex that you can't stand their existence at all? Like, you truly despise this character or thinks they're totally useless
Be honest 👀

A/N: this takes place in the first episode of season 5 of SoA. Chapter 3 will be set in episode 1 and 2. I’ll be taking some liberties when it comes to the time-line, I hope I don’t make a mess out of this lol. The lyrics are from Dark Nights - Dorothy

“don't send me no angel, this city's too cold
cause I need a man with a black heart of gold
don't give me no lover, if he ain't got the stones
cause I need a man who will fight for his own.”
The sun was setting by the time I passed the Charming welcome sign. It hadn’t been hard spotting Charming in a map. Making my way there wasn’t hard either. It was an hour and a half drive through the I-580 according to Google Maps but I made it in a little less than an hour on my bike.
I would have left first thing in the morning if I wasn’t so damn tired. Those corpses Jimmy left for me took forever to clean up. Pieces of brain scattered everywhere -- I even found some on a far back wall -- and I had to make sure there was no evidence left behind.
I had taken an extremely long and necessary shower once I got to my loft, at almost 7am. I crashed on my bed totally naked afterwards, almost 9 in the morning then, still partially wet from my shower.
My whole body was sore from dismembering and carrying body parts and it took me forever to find a comfortable position in bed and finally sleep. I woke up at 4pm still feeling like shit. I tossed and turned all throughout my sleep and I hardly felt rested. This time, I blamed the nightmares on too much wine and on Taco Bell’s fat filled food -- but I knew better. I pushed it to the back of mind though. I could wallow in guilt later. Meeting my real father was more important than rethinking my sins.
Still, the guilt spoke louder and I found myself praying Our Father as I took the turn to leave I-580 and enter Charming town. I would have held the cross on my necklace if my hands weren’t on the clutch. My faith helped me constantly with my line of work and I always calmed down a little when I prayed. It would be good if I could find a church in Charming. I didn’t need to confess. Sunday mass was enough for me.
This time, however, I got a tad too distracted with my praying. I lost my grip on the bike for a second and I swayed on the street, earning several warning honks from cars. The honks startled me and I brusquely tried to straighten the motorcycle. A van had been trying to pass me on the right and when I swerved back into my lane it hit my side, sending me and the bike sliding against the road.
I landed on my side with my bike pinning me down. It took me a second to register the pain and start cursing. My left leg, the one under the bike, burned like a motherfucker and my left shoulder took most of the impact for my body. The car behind me hit the brakes, putting me face to face with its front bumper. There was big sticker on it that read ‘Jesus is my car insurance’. I doubted Jesus would cover the wreck if the guy had ran me over.
It was so ridiculous and ironic that I started laughing. God really had my back. I removed my helmet and threw it to the side still laughing.
“God fucking dammit,” I muttered to myself as I chuckled.
I looked down, trying to see the damage and wondering how much strength I would need to lift my Harley. As I tried to sit up so I could wiggle out from beneath the bike, I noticed three men jumping from their own Harleys and running my way. Bikers always helped it each other when it came to road troubles. Drivers rarely gave a shit, like the van driver who just took off after I went down.
“Hey hey, hold on,” called the first man ahead. He removed his helmet, revealing a mass of blonde hair.
I stopped moving so he and the other two men could lift my motorcycle.
“One, two, three,” the blonde guy counted and they pulled it up. I breathed out in relief once its weight was off me. The man with a big belly — made of beer and fried food, I supposed — kicked the footrest down so my bike could be propped up.
The third guy strode to me, offering me his gloved hand. I couldn’t see much of his face because the setting sun was right behind him, making him a silhouette. I grabbed my helmet with one hand before letting him pull me up to my feet.
I cursed under my breath once I was up. Pain flashed from my knee to my thigh and I stumbled. The man that pulled me up put his arm around me so I wouldn’t fall and I swung my arm around his shoulders so I could rest my weight on him.
“Ye okay, lass?” He asked. I looked curiously at him, trying to put a face to the Scottish accent, but the sun was in my eyes.
“Can’t say for sure,” I replied. I twisted my body a little so I could have a look at my leg. There was a mixture of red, black and grey and it took me a second to realise it was blood, asphalt and the colour of my jeans. It wasn’t gushing blood but it looked ugly. “Yeah, I’ll be fine, had worse before.”
“What happened?” Asked the blonde.
“I got distracted, it was my fault,” I explained. “Is she alright?” I pointed at my bike.
The fat guy checked it out from behind his blue sunglasses. “Yeah, she’s good. You took most of the fall. There’s a few scratches but we can fix it for you.”
Before I could say anything, the driver from the Crown Vic, the one with Jesus insurance, honked loudly at us. Fair enough, we were standing in the middle of the road but I had had an accident and I was hurt. I leaned past my Scottish saviour so I could give the driver my middle finger. The driver honked again and there was a collective raising of middle fingers from all of us this time and a loud “fuck off” from the fat guy.
“C’mon, let’s free up the road for that shithead,” the blonde said, nodding at the Scotsman and helping the other guy steer my Harley to a close lay-by.
I half limped, half hopped my way there with the aid of the man at my side. He was a few of inches taller than me, three or four inches I would guess, and he had to lean down a bit so I could rest my weight on him. I stole a glance at him -- actually, several glances, especially when I realised he was pretty good looking.
“Sit down,” he told me as he unhooked my arm from around him. I did as he said and sat down on my bike, hanging my helmet on the clutch and immediately looking up at him. He removed his sunglasses and met my eyes. I assumed my brain got overflowed with endorphins because I stopped feeling pain. Yeah, he was that hot. Mind numbingly and pain numbingly hot.
I noticed how hot the blonde guy was when he jumped off his bike but he was far too pretty for my taste. I liked my men ruggedly handsome, older and -- well from now on -- Scottish.
I stared at him and he stared right back. He had scars across his cheeks, I noticed -- hard to miss actually, and somehow it made him look sexier. It added to the whole dangerous and mysterious vibe he put out. He had a kutte on over a brown button-up shirt and I could read the patches if I squinted enough. Sons of Anarchy, Sgt. At Arms, Redwood Original. I stopped staring for a second so I could have a quick look at the other two men. All of them wore kuttes and the blonde one had a President patch. Rescued by a motorcycle club. Neat.
I turned my gaze back to the Scotsman. He tilted his head, his dark eyes meeting mine as a lopsided smile played on his lips. He was watching me with interest. In fact, I’d say he was checking me out. Good. I wasn’t being discreet about it -- when was I ever discreet with my flirting? Never, that’s when. I was laying on the ground a minute ago and here I was, lusting after my rescuer. And oh, there was a lot to lust after according to his tight jeans. I tried not to stare too hard at his crotch but it was difficult, especially because I was sat and he was right in front of me.
I managed to unglue my eyes from his junk and meet his eyes with a smirk. The blonde man cleared his throat. He was trying to hide his smile but he wasn’t being very good at it.
“Sorry. You said you guys can fix my bike for me?” I asked, trying to brush off the flirting.
“Yeah, there’s only a few scratches. We can paint it over at T-M but it’ll ruin the original paint job,” the guy with the blue glasses stepped forward as he spoke. He had long greying hair and a beard.
“T-M?”
“Teller-Morrow Automotive, our auto-shop,” the Scot supplied.
I felt all blood leave my face.
Of fucking course. I came to Charming looking for my real dad, knowing his name, where he worked and that he was criminal. And now I was face to face with bikers, probably criminals, who owned the place my father worked in. I knew I was bound to meet some uncomfortable truths about my dad but actually realising how close to it I was, scared me. Not only that, but I was flirting with some guy who could very well be my dad. He looked old enough.
Jesus. What if he was my dad? That would be extremely weird. But he couldn’t be my dad. My mother said I looked like him and I had nothing in common with the Scotsman.
I had to just get on with it and ask.
“You happen to know an Alexander Trager then?”
At first they stared at me, their eyebrows twitching as if they expected me to say more. When I didn’t, all three of them shifted on their feet while exchanging looks. None of them reacted to the name as someone would if they heard their own name, which calmed me a little.
“What’s yer name?” The Scotsman crossed his arms over his chest, all traces of his flirting gone.
“Giulia,” I said. He cocked his right eyebrow in response, prompting me to say more. “Giulia Lucchese.” He looked at the other two and they shook their heads. “Look, I get that you don’t know me but I just wanna talk to Trager.”
“Why?” the blonde asked, his baby blue eyes piercing mine.
It wasn’t hard to tell they were suspicious of me. I would be too if some stranger came around my town asking for a friend of mine.
I took a deep breath before opening my mouth.
“Because he’s my father.”
Blondie and Scot raised their eyebrows and Blue Sunglasses let out a chuckle. Life would be a bit easier right now if I at least knew their names. It’d be nice to be on first name basis if they were gonna judge me.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” Blondie said, running a hand over his face. “Unbelievable.”
“It’s not that hard to believe, Jax,” Blue Sunglasses scoffed. “It was bound to happen. The way Tig fucks around... I knew some lost kid was gonna pop up someday,” he shook his head to the sides, laughing. His eyes analysed me and he stopped laughing as if he just realised something. “You said Lucchese?” I nodded. “Ain’t that fucking great?” he looked up at the sky as if he was cursing God.
“What?” I asked along with Scot and Blondie (or Jax).
“Lucchese, as in Bianca Lucchese,” my eyebrows shot up upon hearing my mom’s name. “Remember her, Chibs?” Blue Sunglasses stopped so he could look at Scot. Chibs was his name? I doubted it, probably a nickname.
“Shit. Aye, I remember her. But now she’s… Fuck. Tig sure chooses them well.” He smoothed his greying hair back with both hands, looking frustrated.
“What?!” Jax shouted, his blonde eyebrows furrowed. Apparently he wasn’t a fan of being kept out of the loop. I was right with him in this one.
“Ye were a kid, Jackie boy. Ye don’t remember her. Bianca, yer mum,” he eyed me for a second, “was drivin’ on 580 when her car broke down and she called T-M fer a tow. Tig and Bobby went to pick her up…” he stopped and looked at Blue Sunglasses, who I deduced was Bobby.
“Bianca was real pretty. Italian accent. Tig was onto her the moment she spoke,” Bobby explained, rolling his eyes. I leaned forward, my injured leg long forgotten, eager to hear the details of how my mother and father met. I knew nothing, I’d take any information those bikers had to give me. “We fixed her car but she stayed in Charming for a month because of Tig. Bianca broke things up because Tig was divorcing Colleen and then she left to Oakland. Pregnant apparently,” he pointed at me. “Since Giulia is here now.”
“So? What’s the problem?” Jax asked.
“Bianca’s married to Jimmy Cacuzza now. Which makes her,” Bobby pointed one fat finger at me again, “Jimmy’s stepdaughter and italian mob.”
“No I’m not,” I replied instantly. Took me a second to realise they knew Jimmy Cacuzza. More than that, they knew he was mafia. The name meant something to them and right now it meant trouble. At best they had a good relationship with Jimmy and my, well, existing put them at odds. “Yes, I’m his stepdaughter but I have nothing to do with the mob.” Okay, I was sorta lying. “Look,” I stood up, ignoring the flash of pain that coursed through my leg, “until yesterday I didn’t know who my father was. I came here to get to know him, I don’t want to cause any problems. You guys clearly have, uh, a relationship with Jimmy and I don’t wanna get caught in between that. It’s not my fault who my mom fucked or who she got married to,” I shrugged. “I just wanna meet my real dad and if he doesn’t want to talk to me, that’s fine. I’ll just go back to Oakland if that happens. But I’m not leaving until I get to at least see him.”
For a moment we all stared at each other. The sun had finished setting, leaving the California sky in a purplish shade. With the sun gone, the wind started picking up and the blood on my leg became cold as it dried. Headlights from cars passing on the I-580 were the the only source of light.
Finally, Jax nodded.
“Fine but you only get to talk to him after we’re sure you’re his daughter.”
“I’ll take a DNA test if you want me to,” I replied, sitting down again. I could have leaped in joy but my leg stopped me from doing that and I was not doing that in front of badass bikers. “I want to be sure, too.”
“Yeah, yeah. Until then, you’re not leaving our sight,” I was sure he was using his threatening voice, yet it had little effect on me. I just stared back. “Can you ride?” He looked from my leg to my bike.
“I’m good for riding but I should probably get this looked at later,” I said.
“My old lady is a doctor, she can check it out for you,” he walked to his bike, a Dyna Super Glide, and picked up his helmet. “You follow us out,” he commanded. No shit he was President, the man ordered people around like it was nothing. He could’ve said it nicely and I would follow them out anyway.
I was getting up to swing my leg over my Iron 883 when Chibs stepped forward, grazing my shoulder lightly with his hand.
“Yer leg’s still bleedin’. Ye have anythin’ to tie around it?” He frowned as he looked at the wound.
I could have drooled at this point. Not only was he hot, he was also caring. He was actually concerned about my leg. Yeah, he was making me horny with only that and that was a good skill to have.
“I have an old shirt in my saddlebag, you can use that,” I managed to say, pointing at the studded saddlebag attached to my motorcycle.
He bent down so he could open the saddlebag and retrieve my old over-sized Ozzy Osbourne shirt. I usually slept with it but apparently I wasn’t using it tonight, since it was going to be covered in blood. He united the two sleeves before squatting down in front of me. He wrapped it around my leg, staring dead straight into my eyes with his eyebrows arched. I bit my lip to stifle my smile as I watched him.
“Not how I imagined you going down on me,” I quipped. His hands stopped for a moment as he looked up at me, a grin appearing on his face. Bobby and Jax laughed as they mounted their bikes and then Chibs chuckled too. He finished tying my shirt and made sure the knot was secured.
“No need for a DNA test, Jax,” Bobby told him but he was looking at me. “After that one, she’s definitely Tig’s kid.”
Jax nodded, chuckling as he started his bike and soon his and Bobby’s laugh were drowned out by the Harleys’ powerful engines. I meant to ask what he meant by that -- was my dad a horndog like I was? -- but Chibs still had my attention.
He offered me my helmet after getting back on his feet and then leaned forward and gave me a wink paired with a smile. On top of everything else, he had dimples. To say my panties were soaked would be an understatement.
“Try to keep up with us, love,” he told me before turning his back on me and heading towards his own bike. His kutte had a nice design on the back with a reaper and an AK-47.
I tilted my head, my eyes fixed on his ass as he strode. Nice junk and a nice ass. He alone was reason enough for me stick around awhile. But I came to Charming with a purpose and that was to find my dad -- not a lover. I wouldn’t complain if it happened, though.

Advice For Choosing The Ideal Tire For Your Car
Tumblr media
Odds are good you'll be purchasing new tires Even though tires manufactured today will provide one longer or 50,000 miles before needing replacement. Just how do you choose the very best tire for the automobile and also to that climate in which you will live?
All-Season Tires
Dependable and suitable for any street and weather state , all-season tires are the standard selection for the majority of automobiles. For people that are living in places with dramatic weather swings, this could be the sole car tyre that we can leave on year-round since they are able to handle dry, damp, sand, and also subtropical roadways.
All-season tires offer drivers excellent yearlong traction in snowy seasons, long life, and also a cozy journey. You forfeit traction and the control but they are a excellent choice for reasonable ponds and conditions. All-seasons are available to allow for wide range of vans and car.
Snow and Winter Tires
Winter/snow tires are all intended to give you traction in snow and cold temperatures below car tires44 levels Fahrenheit. These wheels that are narrow feature grooves that are ample that help the trim to boost traction. A softer rubber structure maintains the tyre deals from tingling if the temperatures plummet, giving an even more reliable traction in rain and snow. The tread on snow tires occupies speedier than all-seasons, but the reassurance which includes maximum grip while browsing turns and hills and braking when driving sleet, icesnow and snow makes these tires needed in most nations.
Summer Tires
Summer season tires supply the very best traction during the orbital grooves , thanks to this elastic rubber materials employed, hot and humid weather, and directional styles. The tread on such tires provides good performance on surfaces by simply resisting hydro-planing and shedding water. Summertime tires:
Offer responsiveness when cornering and braking
Are Created for speed and endurance
Make hot choices to be used to sports-oriented vehicles
Effectiveness Tires
Once confined to exotic sports cars, today performance tyre deals are available for almost every sort of auto, truck, and SUV. You find them designed for certain weather conditions, including snow and cold, and also in design models that are off-the-shelf. Made for"enthusiastic" drivers using an eye on type, both the shallow and vast tread on performance tires, stiff side walls, and smooth rubber provide them a much higher speed rating than conventional all-season tires.
Passengers choose high-performance tires because they feature better management, cornering, and equilibrium at high speeds, along with traction and an increase of reactive braking. While the trip is the usage faster and also rougher the trade-off has got your ability to react easily and prevent a dime.
Off-Road Tires
Able to electrical energy off road tires, through sand, snow, sand, stone, and dirt comprise the very competitive layout readily available to have the conditions. The massive lugs and heavy voids enable these tyre deals to bite difficult terrain for greatest grip. Even though ride is noisy and bumpy reinforced sidewalls and Even the puncture-resistant construction stand upto the abuse that off-roading maintains.
All-Terrain Tires
Like tires, all-terrain tires are entirely on SUVs and trucks. They give a off-road tire's remarkable grip and open-tread style, coupled together with a road tire's managing and grip capacities. Even though ride is a bit more noisy than street tires these tires function well on almost any road surface, and also the thicker rubber means a much tread lifetime.

When considering how typically your Toyota ought to be serviced, keep three things in mind:1. Are there any noticeable problems with the vehicle? For instance, dealing with issues or odd sounds coming from under the bonnet. If odd things start taking place, get the help of a mechanic as quickly as possible. 2.

For instance, it might be every couple of months or when your vehicle’s clocked a particular number of km. 3. How do you use your car? Finally, if your automobile is used a lot or needs to handle extreme conditions, it will require more regular servicing compared to a car and truck that’s barely utilized or fresh from the display room. Make certain the air con runs appropriately Check steering and suspension Check all lights and bulbs work, or replace if they do not Evaluation the automobile’s cooling system Make certain windscreen wipers and washers work Check to trigger plugs to ensure there’s no sign of an oil leakage Test the battery Review the air and fuel filters and examine the exhaust Examine the tyres (air and tread depth) There are certain turning points in the life of your vehicle which, when reached, suggests it’s a good idea to book a service.
How Long Can I Drive Past Oil Change?
In regards to what occurs during a scheduled Toyota service, you’ll constantly get standard maintenance on tyres, an oil modification, plus brakes, wipers, and fluid levels examined. Beyond that, it really depends on the design and age of the vehicle, along with the driving conditions it’s gone through.
According to a recent survey by one car recovery and repair company, the most typical car problem in Australia is a flat battery. Heat is the primary culprit. As heat is unavoidable throughout Australia, it’s an excellent concept to regularly check and charge your battery. Based on recent jobs posted on the Airtasker platform, some of the most typical Toyota problems consist of electrical faults, transmission issues, and generator issues.
Repairing little front and rear windscreen chips might cost as little as $50. For more serious damage (think, completely smashed) it could cost as much as $500 to replace your windshield. Other typical repair work particular to Toyota automobile owners include brake pad replacement ($ 65-$ 136), getting your oil and filter altered ($ 40-$ 90), bumper replacement or repair work ($ 50-$ 200), and tyre repair work or maintenance ($ 30-$ 59).

How Long Can You Go Without Servicing Your Car?
A few of these jobs may be better matched to other Airtaskers, like a tire repair work specialist. Or if you have actually got a number of different things on your list, you might just work with a general mechanic to take care of all of it in one go. The rate of Toyota car servicing depends, mostly, on 2 things: the design and what needs maintenance.
Typical Toyota vehicle models Car service price guide Camry $20-$ 120 Hilux $30-$ 600 MR2 $900 Yaris $50-$ 350 Corolla $25-$ 120 Prado $50-$ 1,000 Kluger $40-$ 600 Echo $30-$ 5,000 Hi-Ace Van $90-$ 1,500 Spacia Van $550-$ 585 Rav4 $50-$ 200 Prius $50-$ 60 As you can see from our cost guide above, the most significant variation in expense is based on the make and model of your car, along with the complexity of the job.
And that will depend on: How old your automobile is Whether it’s diesel or petrol Additional parts required (and if the mechanic requirements to find these) Any bonus (like a repair work or arranged replacement) Your location/suburb Whether you reserve a mobile mechanic or take your vehicle into a workshop How urgently you need the task done Whether work is being completed on a weekday or weekend Doing standard cars and truck upkeep on your own is an excellent method to keep your Toyota service expenses down.
Do Cars Run Better After Oil Change?
In fact, continuing top of these things regularly will keep your cars and truck in fantastic working order, for longer. Naturally, if you don’t like getting under the hood of your vehicle for a routine check, you can constantly enlist the assistance of a regional Airtasker to come out in between completes.

Rolling Coal Mill
“Tony shut up”
“Listen Ryan, I am just saying. You could save a few minutes if you did”
“What point of shutting up do you not get? My yard, my rules”
Rolling Coal Lumber mill was a little piece of heaven, or a slice of hell depending on who you asked. While there was no mistaking the importance of the small little lumber mill to the surrounding businesses and homes, it did have the reputation of being run by a hard ass of a boss, a Kenworth named Ryan. The Truck had been running the yard for nearly fifteen of his nearly fourty years on the planet and his reputation was well backed up. You either did it his way, or you were fired. No questions asked.
That was not to say Ryan was a bad truck, far from it. To the workers that had worked there and had properly followed his rules, and did what he asked, He could be a very nice boss. To the trucks that had been smartasses in his yard, he could be straight up the devil himself when it came to be. To some he looked the part too, as the years in the mill had not been kind to Ryan’s body. His once shiny Black and silver paint had dulled, sometimes chipped off in place and rust was evident all over his chrome and stacks. He also had numerous dents and scratches across his body from accidents and just the action of moving heavy loads around the valley.
As a result of Ryan’s more violent tendencies when it came with slacking off at his yard, Truck turnovers where very high. A truck usually never lasted more than three months before calling it quits, and the ones who stayed on Ryan’s good side lasted barely longer, usually deciding to move to other yards with more work when given the chance. The longest lasting one so far was the Truck Ryan was currently talking to, a Peterbilt named Tony who currently was sitting on nearly a year at the yard so far.
Tony was a younger model Bright blue Peterbilt, having only been on his own for 3 years now. He had come into the yard looking for work, and with Ryan being short tired at the time with his last working leaving, was hired on the spot. When Tony worked, he could be an excellent worker, that reason being why he was still employed with Ryan. Unfortunately, Tony was something off a hot head who thought sometimes he knew better than the veteran.
Currently he was in the process of annoying Ryan, again.
“Come on man, we have tons of straps just lying around, through it over the load and tye it down. By the time you get back, the kid will be back from the shop with a new one” whined Tony, talking about a strap that had broken on one of the trailers that held down the logs onto it.
“What fucking part of hell no do you not understand. Those aren’t spares ya dingus, those are corroded pieces of metal that barely count towards anything but scrap. I will not and shall not put the lives of others at risk on the roads because your dumbass wanted to save a few minutes” Ryan growled as Tony huffed, mumbling softly as he slowly rubbed a tire along the ground. “Tony” started Ryan, His violet eyes digging into the brown eyes of the truck in front of him, “You have to understand this. This is not just about money. If this load shifts going around a corner, and one of those scrap ties you wanna call a strap gives way, not only is it gonna spill onto the highway, costing ME money to go get and put back onto the trailer, you also run the risk of those spilt logs slamming into other cars on the highway. I will NOT have one of MY loads be responsible for anyone’s death, you got it? Time can be made up, lives can’t. The minute you can understand that and stop trying to cut corners, the moment you will be a better truck for it. Got it?”
“Yes sir, I get it” mumbled Tony softly, whiltering under the gaze of the older Truck, who gave a growl before turning his attention to the only road in and out of the yard.
“We are gonna wait for that Delivery boy to come out here. Only one who was willing to brave the road over here apparently. “Ryan grumbled, Tony snickering besides him.
“Maybe cause the road is a deathtrap? I swear I think I am gonna fall into those ditches along the side, and the bridge is one small quake away from falling into the water” Tony quipped, earning a grumble from the older truck.
“The road is fine, seriously, Cars can stop getting their filters in a bunch and actually do some work, than maybe they wouldn’t be useless slouches. I travel that road nearly every day and I have never had a problem on it” muttered Ryan, a cackle of laughter escaping from Tony at him.
“That’s because you’re old” he cackled, uttering a growl from the Kenworth.
“I swear to Chrysler Tony, one of these days I’m gonna push you off a cliff” he growled as Tony continued to snicker.
“Sure you will old man. Sure you will. So did you hear about what happened to the boys at the station? Nasty shit with that outta state cop and that demon thing” quipped Tony, Ryan simply groaning as he looked at the truck.
“Everyone’s heard it boy, It’s all over the damn paper. Can’t stop to get fuel without cars commenting on it” he groaned, Tony chuckling as his antenna patted the older vehicle.
“There There old man, I know socializing must hurt ya” he cackled, earning a tire smack to a fender as Ryan growled.
“Don’t patronize me boy. I swear, this valley should mind its own business sometimes. What happened happened, and I don’t need to hear about it a month fucking later. Its like when they fucking thought Vic had sex with that outta state cop, would not shut the fuck up about it and it grew annoying really quick. Anyone with have a brand new it was false, Vic ain’t that type of Truck, let alone not that type of cop. But noo, everyone mouthed it around like it was the truth” he growled, earning an eye role from Tony.
“Well of course it was false, didn’t mean it was any less funny seeing the gossip queens at the station mouth off. It was even funnier when the Cop got revenge on that other cop who was spreading it around as well. I saw one of the videos, was some really kinky shit” chuckled Tony, earning a humph from Ryan as he diverted his attention back to the road.
“Whatever youngling, just keep your eyes peeled for the delivery boy, Little guys a speed demon when he comes down this road.” Ryan stated, earning a chuckle from Tony.
“Sure old man, whatever ya say. What truck we waiting for?” asked Tony, Ryan giving a small chuckle as Tony tilted in puzzlement.
“Oh not a truck” he started to say as music started to come from the direction of the road, the sounds of an engine mixed with the electro sing music that was steadily growing louder and louder with Each second. Both trucks looked at the road now, Ryan with a smirk on his bumper while Tony had the look of puzzlement on his. The music grew blistering loud now as Ryan turned to the younger truck, “ It’s a van” he cackled as the Van speed around the corner of the road, the music blaring as it bounced along the divots and dives of the close road before thundering it the yard. The sound of dirt being kicked up as it applied its brakes, The Astro eeping as he locked up and slide into the yard further, knocking over cans and barrels as it skidded to a stop, mere feet from the front of Ryan, who smirked. The van shook its hood, looking up and eeping louder as it noticed how close it was to the Semi, blushing softly as he quickly backed up, throwing a salute up with his antenna up at Ryan.
“I have the goods sir” he said, grinning from mirror to mirror as his antenna pointed up to a large box attached to his roof rack, sitting snuggly in place. Ryan chuckled as Tony looked at the Van, blinking rapidly and close and opening his mouth as he struggled to find words to say.
“Good job Cade, always can count on you out here in the boonies” Ryan said with a smirk as His antenna reached down, undoing the straps from the package.
“Anytime Captain!. I love the roads out here, so much fun to bounce along” giggled Cade as he tiled his body, allowing the package to roll over his roof bars and onto the ground with a Thud. Ryan chuckled softly.
“ Well I appreciate it. Why don’t you go to the café and get a drink or two, Tell the waitress to put it on my tab” he smirked as the Van beamed.
“YES SIR!” He giggled, saluting the Semi once more before turning around and zooming back up the road, His music crackling back to life as the little van speed around the bend, throwing up a cloud of dust and dirt in his wake. Ryan softly chuckled, watching the youngster speed away from them at a fast rate of speed.
“Kids gonna hurt himself one of these days with how fast he moves along the roads here” he quipped as he tilted towards his companion, who was still starring at the bend, his mouth opening and closing rapidly still. Ryan sighed, rolling his eyes as his slammed a tire into Tony’s side, snapping the youngster outta his daze. “Stop imitating a fish and get to work securing the strap, we have loads to deliver” he stated, Tony blinking at him.
“ Why was that van lifted, and how does a Van move so fucking quick” he asked, Ryan sighing as his antenna rubbed along his closed eyes.
“Boy, that Kid has more balls than vehicles twice his age. Stop asking such stupid questions alright. I am not gonna question how or why, I am just thankful that someone like him is willing to help us workers in the boonies out here. He goes around delivering packages to people out here who need them and his is damn good at it. So why don’t you imitate him and get back to fucking work before I make you” growled Ryan as Tony sputtered.
“But-But sir. I delivered the last three!” he whined, yelping as a tire smacked into his fender as Ryan gave a low growl, his engine rumbling angrily.
“ Its gonna be another three if you don’t get to work, The  faster you can safely secure the strap over the load, the quicker you can go to break. NOW FUCKING MOVE IT!” Yelled the Kenworth. The Peterbilt giving a yelp as he quickly moved to grab the package, driving quickly to the awaiting trailer.
“Fucking kid” muttered Ryan as he yawned, turning around and back to his office to check for any more loads that where gonna be needed delivered soon. The sun was getting low and he hoped there wouldn’t be any last minute delivers needed.
He really hated those.

Petrol RC Cars - A Frequent Misunderstanding
So diesel motors may typically give you more miles per quart than their equivalent petrol designs - just go through the variations between related cars inside our Green Vehicle Guide. Diesel is higher priced to purchase than petrol, and the forecasts are that diesel rates may keep on to go up more steeply than petrol in the near future.
Diesel motors have always been regarded as slow and loud, however technology has seen some amazing cheaper petrol vic lately; for example Toyota has created their very own diesel engine that is made to be quiet, sophisticated, clean and with instant answer - fighting against all of the old stereotypes. Over recent years, LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is a viable energy solution in the UK.
LPG creates fewer emissions than petrol and diesel but energy consumption is worse. It's been possible to convert many existing cars to perform on LPG by after-market conversions, and some makers such as for example Vauxhall experienced new cars inside their range which can be dual-fuel, which are made to work primarily on LPG with petrol back-up. There is an acceptable network of filling stations.
LPG, and natural gasoline in weightier cars, has been an attractive idea before primarily because of its cheaper cost, since it has enjoyed less energy duty. Nevertheless there is number promise that the Chancellor will keep that later on, and though there are some emissions improvements around petrol, LPG remains produced from a fossil fuel and therefore however releases greenhouse gases in to the atmosphere.
Some vehicles, frequently heavier vans or trucks that commonly run on diesel, but additionally cars including the Volvo (V70 Bi-Fuel), can run on CNG (Compressed Organic Gas), which again effects in lower CO2 emissions than normal petrol vehicles, but the energy is not as effective as diesel. Obtaining CNG for refuelling can be quite a challenge.
Petrol-electric cross vehicles operate on a mix of a main-stream petrol motor and an electric engine driven by a power storage unit like a battery pack. In simple phrases they work on the theory that the electrical motor offers the ability at reduced speeds such as for instance in metropolitan operating, and they move to petrol for operating at higher speeds.
The batteries are recharged while operating and hybrids use regenerative braking, meaning power is set back in the battery when braking, which improves power efficiency. Cross technologies increase gas performance and therefore give significant fuel savings compared with a standard petrol vehicle - as well as carbon emissions savings.
While types might cost more than traditional vehicles, working prices could be two-thirds that of equivalent petrol-fuelled vehicles. For their lower CO2 emissions, hybrids also take advantage of reduced vehicle excise duty and are treated favourably in Budgets. Furthermore they are exempted from the London Obstruction Charge.
But at this time there are always a limited amount of cross vehicle choices; there are now just four hybrids for sale in the UK; the Toyota Prius, Ford Civic hybrid, Lexus RX400h and Lexus GS450h. Since they are still a comparatively new engineering, there aren't many available second-hand and so they are rather expensive.
Toyota's first Prius (launched in China in 1997) did not sell in great figures, however a fresh design has been introduced and this is now demonstrating more successful. Although it looks like a normal car, it is made around energy efficiency, and has several brilliant scientific features that aid fuel consumption, including air-con and wheels powered by electricity as opposed to by sapping power from the petrol engine.
While the official fuel economy numbers for cars like the Toyota Prius at 65.7mpg sound good, they simply really achieve optimum economy benefits in built-up parts wherever they mostly run on electric as opposed to petrol even though Prius can just only push for approximately a distance on electric batteries before the need to revert to petrol; in real-world motoring it appears difficult to attain the state figures.
On a motorway run, a great diesel is probably be more economical. Nonetheless hybrids continue to be one of the greatest alternatives that the customer has nowadays to attain better gasoline economy, especially when much driving is done in areas, combined with economic advantages such as for instance decrease tax and escaping London's Congestion Charge.

Traditional 1928 Ford Model A Hot Rod is Driven Everywhere!
Most couples celebrate milestones like birthdays and wedding anniversaries with some sort of splurge: a trip, a fancy night on the town, maybe a new piece of keepsake jewelry. Vic and Debbie Hager have their own way to mark those special occasions: They build hot rods.
When the high-school sweethearts were dating, Vic drove them around in a ’57 Chevy pickup. It went away, as a lot of high school cars do. But as the years went by, Vic started looking for another like it.
Hot rods and airports have a relationship that goes back almost as far as gow jobs and dry lakes. Thanks to one of Vic Hager’s many friends, we photographed his Model A roadster at historic Minter Army Air Field in Shafter, California.
Debbi beat him to the punch, buying him a similar truck for his birthday in 2001. They drove it to their 30th high school reunion, and it remains Vic’s daily driver today.
For their 35th wedding anniversary, Vic and Debbi decided to build another truck, this time a hot rod ’40 Ford pickup that had been taking shape in Vic’s mind for a while. Drawings on napkins at the dinner table morphed into a tattoo of the chopped, slammed, and fenderless Ford on Vic’s right forearm—before the truck was even built.
Not only did Vic want a car with early parts, but he also wanted to build it using the same kinds of processes available to a young rodder in the late 1940s or early 1950s. So the Model A’s single-stage paint job was sprayed by Vic and Bob Gleim in Bob’s driveway.
“But there’s only one way I’d do it,” Vic says, “and that was if Debbi helped me. And I don’t mean just bringing me iced tea in the garage while I work. I mean really helped me. Side-by-side, every step of the way.”
That’s exactly how it happened. The two of them essentially built the car from scratch, with Vic teaching Debbi how to weld “so we could fabricate what we needed,” he says. The result is something far more meaningful to the couple than another bauble on a bracelet. Not to mention a whole lot more fun.
Close examination of the tail panel reveals some of Jason “3 Sheets” Janes’s black-on-black pinstriping, including Vic’s mother’s name, Betty, at the lower right corner. The script mimics her signature, so it looks like she signed the car herself.
So when Vic’s 60th birthday rolled around, Debbi kept the couple’s milestone tradition going by buying Vic a Model A roadster.
“He was ready to retire,” she recalls, “and had built a shop in back of our house. I asked him, ‘Why don’t you finish the shop and do a car?’”
Doing a car turned into a five-year project for Vic and Debbi, with help from friends, family, and fellow members of the Bakersfield-area 99s car club.
Vic says one of the hardest parts of the roadster’s build was getting the decklid right, as the skin oil-canned when it was pulled away from its inner structure to punch the louvers. Vic Heliarc-welded the skin back to the frame, then heated the metal with a shrinking wheel and cooled it with a rag “about a million times” to get the metal right again.
As he had done with the ’40 pickup, Vic formed a very clear vision of what the roadster should be. “I wanted to build the car as a lakes-style hot rod, like a kid would have done after the war. The kind of car you’d drive to the lakes, take everything off of it, race it, then put everything back on and drive home. I wanted to use as many original Ford parts as possible, and use the same methods and processes available at the time.”
That vision meant taking a whole different approach than what he and Debbi had done with the Ford truck. Instead of fabricating what he needed, Vic would have to hunt down those period-correct parts he saw in his mind’s eye. As it turned out, much of the five years it took to build the car was spent searching for parts.
With help from buddy Bob Van Meter, Vic built a flathead for performance and reliability. The 286ci French block is fitted with Mercury heads and spins a Scat reciprocating assembly with Ross Racing pistons. Smith Auto of Dinuba, California, did Vic’s machining work, while Reynolds Machine balanced the flywheel and clutch assembly. Spark comes from a rebuilt Joe Hunt magneto out of a 1980s sprint car. Vic fabricated the stainless-steel exhaust system, with 1-5/8-inch header pipes flowing back to 2 1/8-inch tailpipes.
Vic admits he made some concessions to the all-vintage-parts plan, but they were made in the name of durability. “Debbi and I wanted to drive the car everywhere, and we live in 100-degrees-plus in Bakersfield.” A cool-running flathead was high on his list of priorities, as was a sparkier 12-volt ignition system, albeit one fired by a rebuilt Joe Hunt magneto. (See sidebar for Vic’s cooling tricks.)
Debbi’s present was a great place to start. The ’28 Model A was “pretty straight and had no rust,” says Vic, but also had no front fenders, running boards, or hood. “It looked like they were going to hot-rod it, but it was still pretty stock.” There were some issues with the rear decklid, and the fender behind the driver’s seat had a dent where a ladder had fallen on it. “That’s why the guy sold it. After the ladder fell on it, he realized he’d never do anything with it.”
The EAC Mercury heads were milled 0.20 inch and pocketed to make room for 1.6-inch stainless-steel valves. A Howard cam offers 0.405/0.395 inches of lift at 0.050 and a 111-degree lobe separation angle.
The car was a roller, sitting on its stock frame and still fitted with its Model A axles, mechanical brakes, and spoke wheels. Vic cleaned up and painted the frame, but didn’t box the rails or fill in any of the original holes “to keep it as original as possible.” He did add a dropped front crossmember to accommodate a big radiator, a ’32 K-member to hold the flathead, and a new center X-member. The front axle, springs, and wishbones are from a ’36 Ford, while the rearend, rear springs, and ’bones are originals.
The handsome gray wheels, from a ’40 Ford, came from Vic’s buddy Steve Long, who was also the source of “those beautiful ’36 headlights,” says Vic.  The lights had been in Steve’s parts stash, and Vic had had his eyes on them for a while. “I always wanted lights like that on a car,” Vic would say to Steve, “but he’d just hem and haw.” One day Steve dropped by Vic’s shop to check out the hot rod’s progress, and he was impressed. “Come get them,” Steve told Vic after the visit. “I want them to be on your car.”
The motor has been stone reliable, except early on Vic felt it “seemed a little lean on the bottom end. I messed with it, but it never seemed perfect.” One day on the way to breakfast, “it just quit. I thought I had fouled a plug and couldn’t get it going.” Vic suspected trouble with the mag, so he drove it up to the Joe Hunt shop near Sacramento, where the issue was traced to a hairline crack by the No. 8 cylinder wire. “So I was really running on seven cylinders the whole time.” With a new cap “everything’s been perfect since.”
The generosity of friends and family is a running theme in this car’s build history. For instance, when it came time to paint the car, Vic wanted to do it the old-fashioned way: “outside, with single-stage paint.” But he had never painted a car before. So he asked a friend, Bob Gleim, for help.
“Bob had been around long enough, had been around hot rods in the Glendale area when he was a kid, so he knew what they did and didn’t do,” says Vic. “I asked him to teach me. Not do all the work, but teach me the process and paint with me. That started a two-month process, working every day of the week. He’d spray some of it to show me, then I’d spray. First the sealer, then the primer, then the black. He was a real good teacher. He knew what he was doing. I didn’t, but I was willing to learn.”
The polished Offy Super Dual intake (which Vic port matched with the block) mounts Stromberg 97s with OTB smooth-dome air cleaners.
Gutsy move, especially given his choice of color. “Yeah, I picked the hardest color on an outdoor paint job on an old car. But it turned out pretty all right.”
Another friend who pitched in was Bob Van Meter, who “taught me how to build a performance flathead,” says Vic. Its foundation is a French block, “a 59AB/8BA combo,” as Vic describes it, displacing 286 ci. Within the block is a Scat crank and balanced H-beam connecting rods mounting Ross Racing pistons. Vic relieved the block at the bores and pocketed the EAC Mercury cylinder heads (which were also milled 0.020) to clear the 1.6-inch stainless valves. Vic port-matched the Offy Super Dual intake manifold and fabricated the stainless-steel exhaust system.
Backing the flattie is a ’38 Ford passenger car transmission that Vic and Bob Gleim filled with truck internals with “better synchros,” says Vic. A torque tube sends power back to the car’s original rearend, filled with 3.54 gears.
Front axle and springs are from a ’36 Ford, while the Model A’s original Houdaille shocks damp the ride. A ’40 Ford provided the hydraulic brakes.
The Model A’s cockpit blends some original Henry parts with handiwork done by Vic, Vic’s brother Paul, and an upholsterer whose name is so long and convoluted that Vic says he goes by just the initial J. Vic fabbed the pedals and the nickel-plated dash bar (where a tonneau attaches), and modified the shift knob into a remarkably accurate self-portrait. Paul is responsible for the woodwork on the car’s floor, toe board, and around the cockpit’s trailing edge.
J’s job was the car’s upholstery, turning what had been a Dodge Caravan rear seat into a tuck-and-rolled, leather-clad beauty. He also made a matching cushion to bolster Debbi when she’s behind the wheel.
When Vic asked J to make a tonneau for the car, J had no idea what he was talking about. He’d never heard the term. Vic described what he wanted, and a light bulb went on in J’s head, as he had done similar covers for boat owners.
The original Model A rearend gets power via a torque tube. Given the undercarriage’s cleanliness, you’d never know that this was a driver until hearing the stories from Vic and Debbi about the miles it has traveled.
As a super-subtle finishing touch, Debbi’s brother, Jason “3 Sheets” Janes, pinstriped parts of the body and the headlight housings—in black. The name “Betty” appears in that black-on-black treatment on the lower right corner of the tail panel. The Model A is named for Vic’s mother, and Jason applied the script in a copy of her handwriting, as if she’d signed the car herself.
“She and my dad, Cecil, would have loved to ride in the car,” Debbi tells us. While it was being built, “they both loved talking about it and sitting in it.” Betty and Cecil passed away before the car was finished, but Betty, at least in name, goes with Vic and Debbi whenever they take the car out.
Vic’s prized ’36 headlights wear more of his brother-in-law’s pinstriping. Getting the lights positioned took a lot of trial-and-error, with Debbi and the couple’s daughter, Rae, holding them and moving them around while Vic checked their height and position relative to the car. Once Vic was satisfied with their location, he made their stanchions.
And take it out they do. When the Model A had barely 50 miles on it, Vic and Debbi drove it to a car show in Tehachapi, some 40 miles away, “in 110-degree heat,” says Vic. “That was a real test of that flathead motor.” They have since driven it to the Ventura Nationals, the “Burgers-N-Burnouts” HOT ROD 70th anniversary show in Pomona, and to their hometown track, Famoso, to the California Hot Rod Reunion and the March Meet. As we write this, they plan to go to the SCTA’s season opener at El Mirage, taking the same backroads that the pioneer lakes racers did.
We first spotted the car at CHRR and featured it in our “Scene at …” show coverage in the Mar. 2019 issue. Vic also graciously agreed to carry our own Dave Wallace, an honoree at the Reunion, during the event’s pre-Cackle parade.
Nearly all of the sheetmetal on Vic’s roadster is the Model A’s original steel. Two exceptions are the Brookville grille shell and the Rootlieb hood, the latter used to help mate the Deuce shell to the gennie Model A cowl.
Those are the kinds of things Vic and Debbi really enjoy about the Model A, the things that go beyond the car’s nuts and bolts. “It’s not just the car,” Debbi says. “It’s the people we meet and the adventures we go on. The car makes that happen.”
Leather tuck-and-roll, by an upholster known only as J, covers what used to be the rear seat out of a Dodge minivan. The dashboard and instrument panel are original to the car; Vic filled the cluster with a mix of original and Mooneyes gauges. The Bell-style steering wheel is also from Mooneyes.
Vic fashioned the car’s pedals, while the woodwork on the floor, toe board, and around the cab was finished by his brother, Paul.
Vic modified an off-the-shelf shift knob to create a pretty accurate self-portrait.
Like the brakes behind them, the 16-inch wheels are from a ’40 Ford. They are finished off with Mercury hubcaps and wrapped by Coker reproduction Firestones, 6.00×16 in front and 7.50×16 in back.
The Hager’s roadster is deceiving. At first glance it looks like simplicity itself: a nicely proportioned highboy wearing its single-stage paint like a plain black dress. But this is a car that rewards closer attention. That’s when you spot things like the handmade blister in the hood to clear the mag, the nickel-plated (not chrome) dash bar, the hand-fabricated spreader, and just enough brightwork to accent the plain black wrapper.
It’s not easy to build a hot rod using primarily pre- and post-war parts. To finish such a car and also have it be a reliable driver in the summer heat of California’s Central Valley is harder still. But Vic and Debbi pulled it off, with the help of family and friends.
Too Cool for Old School
How did Vic Hager and Bob Van Meter build a flathead that keeps its cool in the Central Valley heat? It helps that the engine is based on a newish French block rather than a vintage one. “Those old blocks tended to have silica casting sand left in the water jackets,” Vic explains. “Most people back then just ran water in the cooling systems, and water is corrosive over time. The water pumps were primitive, there were problems with seals, all kinds of things.”
The French block, on the other hand, “doesn’t have a silica casting sand problem, and it has really big water jackets, like a later motor. I run a hybrid mix of coolant with a little soluble oil in the radiator to keep corrosion down.” That radiator is a four-core ’32 Walker radiator, “the best you can get,” Vic says. Coolant flows from ’52 truck water pumps with an extra impeller. “It slows the speed of the water but lets a bigger volume of water through. I also have a huge, six-blade, high-pitch fan that will suck a T-shirt right onto the radiator.”
Did his plan work? “My car runs exceptionally cool,” he says. “I did all this because I was worried about heating issues in our area. But it has been totally the opposite. When we go up the hill to L.A., we see a lot of new cars pulled over, overheating. But we’re going by at 75, 80 miles per hour, and running 160, 170 degrees at the most. It has never boiled over.”
The Anniversary Pickup
For their 35th wedding anniversary, Vic and Debbi built this ’40 Ford pickup together. Vic had envisioned the truck well before building it, and had that vision tattooed on his forearm before turning any wrenches.

Celebrity Drive: Spin Doctors’ Lead Singer Chris Barron
Quick Stats: Chris Barron, lead singer, Spin Doctors Daily Driver: 2018 Subaru Impreza (Chris’ rating: 10 on a scale of 1 to 10) Other cars: See below Favorite road trip: Spin Doctors’ first national tour Car he learned to drive in: Ford Econoline van First car bought: 1993 Subaru Legacy
Spin Doctors’ lead singer Chris Barron used to own police cars, but when his wife and daughter suggested something more current and passenger-friendly, he chose to go back to a familiar brand—a 2018 Subaru Impreza.
“I’ve always loved Subarus. I loved that independent four-wheel drive. I leased one of those, a 2015, [and when the] lease ran out I just went right back and got another one. It’s small enough to be able to park it in the city if you need to,” says Barron, who lives in New York City. “I used to have a ’42 Ford wood-paneled wagon, but it wasn’t my everyday driver.”
Barron gives the Impreza a perfect 10. He calls it the “Nighthawk” and gets extra coverage on his leases. “It’s my little pal that I drive around in. I’m a musician, so I’m always driving around and I need a little extra space. For a car of its size, it’s enormous. I moved my daughter home from college and she acquired so much stuff, and it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’ll fit this stuff in here.’ We totally did,” he says with a laugh. “We put the seats down, and it was nuts. I totally moved her home from college. It’s got personality. It’s an inexpensive, fun car that you’re never going to get stuck anywhere. It’s a mountain goat. I never worry about it.”
When he was in northern Maine in February, even when the roads were icy, he never worried with the Impreza. “It’s a trusty car,” he says, adding that he’s been happy with his local dealership.
Before the Impreza, he had a 2004 Crown Victoria he bought after he ran his 1997 Crown Victoria “into the ground,” as he says. “They’re both Police Interceptors. The first one was my favorite. It had the old body style, the back end of it looked like a gigantic bar of soap,” Barron says. “I could always see it in a parking lot.”
The car still had features from when it was a police car. “It had the trunk release. Cops had put in this big trunk release button right in the middle of the dashboard. When my daughter was small, I used to call it the history eraser button because I didn’t want her to press it. The trunk would just open up,” he says. “It had a roadblock in it. The trunk would come up and it had a lighting rig, it was like two big brake lights that would just flash left-right, left-right.”
Barron loved how his Crown Vic made other cars around him react. “That car was amazing,” he says. “You’d pull up aggressively behind somebody in the left lane, and you could see them see you in the rearview mirror, because the whole car would do this sudden shimmy. And you could see their hands tighten on the wheel and the whole car would do a little wiggle and immediately the blinker would come on and they’d get out of your way.”
Barron’s dad, automotive journalist Ken Gross, was the person who suggested it. “My dad was like, ‘You should get a Crown Victoria.’ We’re Ford people. He’s not a Chevy guy, so no Impala. I immediately loved the idea,” he says. “It was really no frills; there wasn’t even a mirror in the visor. It was fast as hell, it had the good old cop shocks, cop struts, the big engine. It was just a freaking awesome car.”
Barron said it was a perfect daily driver for New York City, although he drove it all over the country. “People are going to scratch the car, it’s going to get dinged and bumped, and I didn’t care,” he says. “Driving in New York City is like a big game of chicken, but the person with the worst car wins. I’m driving this $9,000 huge Crown Victoria, and you’re going to come at me with your Mercedes? I don’t think so, I’m going first. People see a car like that coming and they just get out of the way in New York City.”
First car bought
Barron bought his current Impreza because he liked his first car a lot. It was a 1993 Subaru Legacy wagon, which he bought with money he made from the Spin Doctors. He got inspired to buy that car from his best friend in college.
“My pal from Bennington College always had a soft spot for these Subarus, and we had lots of adventures, those crazy college adventures,” he says. “He was this punk rock guy, and he had a really old maroon Subaru. His was super beat up, the paint was all worn down, and he wrote or painted on the side ‘The Piece of Work.’ So I always had a soft spot for the Subaru wagon.”
He drove his Subaru around Washington state. “The one little moment in my life that I didn’t live in New York City, I lived in Washington,” he says. “And I spent a year there, I was like, ‘What am I doing?’ And I moved back to New York City because I’m just a New York City guy. I’m a Northeastern guy.”
What clinched his brand loyalty to Subaru was the time he was on a snowy road in the mountains east of Seattle. “I took that car up into the mountains right when I got it and I drove onto this road and the road turned into a dirt road and then I got way up into the mountains and it got snowy and there was nowhere to turn around so I kept going and going,” he recalls.
The road just ended at a certain point and he got a bit worried when he had to turn around. “I had to do a K turn with a huge cliff behind me on this snow. I was like, ‘Damn, I’m going to die here.’ … There was that one moment where I had the brake on, put it in drive, and I was like, ‘Am I going to slide backwards over this cliff, or am I going to go forward?’ And I went forward and I was like, ‘F–k this, man, Subarus are the best cars in the world,’” he says, laughing.
One day, after seeing a BMW 325i convertible, he gave the Subaru to his brother. “I started making some money and thought, ‘I’m going to get a sports car.’ I got a BMW and I just never vibed with that car. It’s funny, to this day I think people who drive BMWs drive really badly,” he says, with a laugh. “I’m always like, ‘What is this guy doing?’ Oh, it’s a BMW. Of course they’re cutting me off, of course they’re tailgating me. I don’t know what it is about BMW drivers.”
After always worrying about the BMW getting dinged and scratched in New York City, it finally got stolen out of his garage and kept in a lot by the FBI for six months.
“All they could say was, ‘It’s in an evidence lot.’ When I got it back I just didn’t want it anymore. It just didn’t feel right,” he says, adding that’s when his dad suggested a cop car.
Car he learned to drive in
Barron didn’t get his driver’s license until he was in the Spin Doctors. “One of my really famous songs is ‘Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong.’ People think it’s about an ex-girlfriend or an ex-wife, but it’s actually my dad’s ex-wife. I grew up in a household where my dad’s ex-wife kind of hated me. I got grounded and I wasn’t allowed to get my driver’s license, so I was like ‘the hell with this,’ and I didn’t get my driver’s license when I was a kid,” Barron says.
After rebelling by not learning to drive, Barron was in the band when he finally decided he wanted to start driving. “[When] The Spin Doctors went on the road, we did 50,000 miles in vans. We had two vans—a ketchup-red Ford Econoline 250 and a rented 15-passenger Econoline—and we went all around the country in those two cars for two years and when I felt like it, I would just drive,” Barron says. “So I learned to drive in those two vans driving across the panhandle of Utah at 100 miles an hour because there’s no cops out there and the road just never turns.”
Barron also drove that passenger van around in New York City a lot. “I hated that van because I’d been stuck in it for a year and I kind of wanted to crash it. So I learned how to drive in that passenger van driving like a maniac in New York City because you sort of have to drive like a maniac in New York City,” he says.
But being on tour has its advantages when it comes to having time to practice driving and parking. “One night in Mt. Kisco, we got there early, had nothing to do all day, and I just practiced parallel parking with that gigantic van for hours. Just unparking and parking that van because there was nothing to do,” he says, laughing. “So I’m pretty good at parallel parking.”
Barron finally got his license at 22 or 23 and aced the driving test after all his practice. “A lot of my early driving was in New York City. In New York City you’ve got to learn how to drive 50 miles an hour 10 inches away from all the other cars,” he says.
Favorite road trip
The first time the Spin Doctors toured the United States, it was in a bus.
“That first tour on that bus was amazing. We were on a 1967 Eagle bus—that’s the old school buses that all the old country guys would tour on. That bus, Bruce Springsteen was on it early in his career. It was called Champagne,” he says, laughing. “It was a janky, funky old bus and it’s still my favorite bus I’ve ever been on. It had this great paint job that was yellow and orange—it looked like one of those orange Creamsicles. On the side it had Smokey and the Bandit cursive lettering ‘Champagne’ on the side of the bus. That was a great trip.”
It was the band’s first national tour. “There’s definitely a sensation of, ‘Wow, we made it.’ But of course we were playing for 20 people every night because we were playing in places we never played before,” Barron says.

One of the things that made the road trip great was their driver. “When you’re on a tour bus, the driver is your tour guide and spiritual adviser. They decide where you’re going to eat,” Barron says with a laugh. “He’d been on the road his whole life and he knew every stretch of road in the United States. It was amazing having a guy like that. I’d sit on the little staircase that went down to the doorway, next to him.”
The driver would talk about the geography of the country. “I’d just never seen the country from that standpoint. I learned about the Continental Divide in geography, but the way he explained it was like there’s a high point in the country and all the water that falls on the east heads east and all the water that falls on the west falls west,” he says. “Having him explain the whole thing, I got a sense of the continent, as a contiguous piece of land that was connected by these roads that I was on. It made me feel like a blood cell flowing through the veins of the country along with a lot of other cells, like all the other cars and all the other trucks.”
They also had a CB radio so they could hear trucks talking to each other as well as converse with them. “I was young and I’d never done that before. It was just an adventure every day,” he says.
They started in Toronto and drove south to Nashville, where Barron had never visited. “To wake up in Nashville, I’m like, ‘Is there somewhere to eat?’ They’re like, ‘The Elliston [Place] Soda Shop.’ I now consider a visit to Nashville wasted if I don’t go to the Elliston Soda Shop,” he says.
They drove through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Chicago, the East Coast, and back to the South, and around the country again. “In that period of my life, we were out from [the time I was] 21 until [I was] 27. I don’t think I was home for more than a week,” Barron says.
Spin Doctors 30th anniversary and solo album
The original members of the Spin are together, celebrating their 30th anniversary and playing tour dates this year. Barron also has a solo album he’s proud of called Angels and One-Armed Jugglers, which he’s doing solo dates for.
“It’s critically the best-received album I’ve ever done. I definitely think it’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” he says. “I lost my voice right before I made it, and when my voice came back, I just pulled out all the stops and dug really deep and I just made the album of a lifetime.”

How long can you go without health insurance before things become preexisting ?

How Much Will My Insurance Go Up?
I am a new driver. 16 years old and have had my license for a little over 2 months. My insurance now is around 75$. Last week, I backed into my friends car denting her car door. I am wondering if I should not deal with the insurance and just pay her the money for the repair or should I have my insurance cover it and have my insurance go up. How much do you think my insurance will go up being my age with this. It obviously wasn't a big accident but would it be cheaper for me to repay my friend or get the insurance to deal with it? Should I call my auto insurance?
This afternoon, I was at a gas station and I backed my 2003 Pontiac mini van into a concrete barrier very hard. The left rear bumper is falling off, the hatch is dented fairly bad in the corner so it is difficult to open (that dent is about 4 inches in diameter but very deep) and the side with an automatic door has two shallow dents about a foot across. One of my taillights chipped on the side but didn't crack or shatter. No broken glass or anything. The plastic bumper is cracked in a few places, and has red paint all over over it from the barrier. the doors still work (excepting that the hatch catches on the taillight area), no electronic or mechanical issues, just body damage. The question is, should I call insurance? I am almost 17 and I've had my license for about 6 months. Roughly how much would the body work cost, since my insurance with AARP is sure to go up dramatically? Or would I want to play it safe and place a claim? My parents know all about it, and it was a total accident (I missed the brake pedal and hit the accelerator). Just looking for the way that will cost me less in the long run. Thank you for your help.""

Is this true? I'm 21 and the cheapest I have been able to find was at 1.400 per year, or 1.500 per year paying monthly - on a Peugeot 106 Zest 2, 1.1 with quotemehappy.com Thank you!!""

I realize this was the dumbest decision me and my buddy have made in our lives. Trust me I dont want to be near a vehicle for a while. I have lost my license for only 90 days, the cops were very respectable about, and did not criminally charge me, although they were good at scaring the **** out of me. It will also cost me 500$ to get my license back after the 90 days, and my car has been impounded for 30 :(. I live in British Columbia, Canada and the car I was in is my parents and I am registered under them. Again, I feel ******* terrible about it and glad I didnt injure anyone, especially someone not in my vehicle.""

My partner and I have just sold our car. It was a Vauxhall Astra TDi 1.9 Diesel 56plate. We are looking for a little run around car thats cheaper to run. I found a Daewoo Matiz SE 796cc X reg petrol. Apparently its group 2 insurance but its just as expensive as our old car. Would this be right if none of our details have changed???

How expensive is it to live in California?
I live in a small town in Ohio. It's like lower middle class. I really want to go somewhere else with more people and more exciting with more places to shop and stuff. I hate Ohio and don't want to live here. I have a dream to be a fashion designer and start my own business and I want to go to California for a Fashion Design school. It was between New York and California but California seems more exciting and less crowded than NY. My parents don't think it'll ever happen. They always say it's too expensive and don't think my cousin will make it out there, who is going out there pretty much for like drug reasons. My brother went out there when he was younger with his friends, they drove there and he lived on the beach than came back. So, exactly how expensive is it in California? Food, clothing, gas, living, price differences? Is it really crowded like in Los Angeles and San Franciso or bigger cities where colleges are?""

Can a car insurance company lower the estimate?
Ok here is my dilemma: I got in a car accident about a week ago, the other driver is at fault. I went for the repair estimate to the agent #1, he was ready to write a check for $1500, but I was wondering how much they would pay if they totaled the car, in a couple of days I got a phone call and the agent#2 said that the vehicle is gonna be a total loss and said they would pay $2300 and take the car. I decided to just take the $1500. Agents #1 and #2 directed me to an agent #3, I explained the whole situation to him and he said he would issue $1800 if I want to keep the car BUT I would have to get a salvage title for the vehicle first due to the state law. The state law requires a person to get a salvage title if the repair cost is 75% or more of the vehicle total value. I do not want to get a salvage title for the vehicle and I told him that the original estimate given by the agent #1 was $1500, not $1800 which is less than 75%, to which he responded I believe we still had some items open when you got that estimate . he will check it and call me back. 1. Can I just lower the estimate to original $1500 so I would not have to get a salvage title for the car? Any law that allows me to lower it? 2. Will the insurance company receive any benefit if they pay me more money but I will have to salvage the car? Why do they wanna do it?""

Best Averaged sized car for a teenager?
So I'm going for my license soon and we're starting to look at cars to get me around. I want something that's pretty easy on gas, reliable, easy on car insurance cost, doesn't cost an arm and a leg but ALSO isn't a tiny car like the Chevy Aveo because most of the people in my family are pretty tall for instance my mom is 5'9 I'm 5'7 /5'8 and my other sisters are also about the same height. I've been thinking about the Prius because I hear it's got some leg room and is easy on gas, but people say that batteries are more harmful than regular ones and all this jazz. Then I thought about the Honda Insight but I heard that the headroom in the back is not comfortable. I was thinking the Hyundai Sonata, but the only model I really like is the 2011 and I don't think the insurance company takes kindly to teenagers driving new cars. I would prefer not too big or long a car like the Toyota Avalon, but it's manageable. Any suggestions?""
