How To Play Pretty Woman Guitar Tutorial | Intro & Verse | Roy Orbison Van Halen from Rock Like The Pros on Vimeo.
In this 4K guitar tutorial you will learn how to play Pretty Woman as played by Roy Orbison & Van Halen. Get your FREE 20 Most Important Strum Patterns rocklikethepros.com.
Pretty Woman or Oh, Pretty Woman is one of the most recognizable guitar riffs of all time.
For this lesson we are going to go over the Intro lick and the Verse chords. The entire song is quite long and I wanted to keep this guitar lesson not too long.
Did you know that both the Intro and the Verse have a measure of 2/4 in it? It does and I'll show you exactly where those measures are and how to play and count them.
The Intro is all single notes on strings 6, 5, and 4. This is the part that everyone on the planet and even in space know. It's not overly complex but make sure you get it down and memorized. Since everyone in the universe knows it, you don't want to mess it up.
The Verse only uses 4 chords: A, F#min, D, & E. I have put the chord diagrams in the video for you so see.
We are going to use the Granddaddy Strum Pattern for the entire lesson with a mute on beat 2. The pattern will be D MU UDU (D = down, M = mute, U = up).
The chord progression is | 4/4 A | F#min | A | F#min | D |2/4 D | 4/4 E | E | E | E |, then back to the second part of the intro lick.
A few things you can do for the Intro lick is instead of just playing the Open 6th string E, you can use an E Power Chord. Also, on the 4 measures of the E chord at the end of the verse you can break out of the granddaddy strum pattern and do something that builds the energy. Lastly, you can end on an "A" chord.

Blues Guitar Lesson | Learn to Solo E Blues Shuffle from Rock Like The Pros on Vimeo.
In this 4k Blues Guitar Tutorial you'll learn how to play rhythm and solo over a Blues Shuffle in the key of E. Free 20 Most Important Strum Patterns For Guitar at rocklikethepros.com
The Blues in the key of E will only have 3 chords, the E7, A7 and B7.
To solo over these 3 chords you can use the E Minor Pentatonic Scale.
For this lesson we will use the open position E Minor Pentatonic Scale.
In order to play the rhythm and solo we need to come up with a strum pattern that gives us space to throw in some guitar licks.
A simple strum pattern will be D U D U with a mute on the second D stroke (D = Down, U = Up).
This strum pattern will give use beats 3 and 4 to solo over, but I will many times also take the next measure to continue the solo, thus giving us 6 beats to play some cool Blues licks.
