Megaman community I may need your help and it has to do with Rock’s eye color
You see, he’s usually have blue eyes but in Megamix/Gigamix he has green eyes
Reason I’m asking why is because I have a sort of sketch redesign of him (which is still is bc I’m working on other projects and school)

He loves his dad.
Sometimes I think about how Light Laboratories not only has merch, but that Rock consistently wears it
Like, Roll is always in her own nice dresses and then half the time Rock is in an “L. Labs” t-shirt and shorts

There is no Official Capcom Game Canon™ hair for Bass. No unused design sketches or character art that has been released. Nothing even from canon-adjacent licensed games.
But I wonder if it might exist? Because we’ve seen his hair across various comics, and while ‘Manga / Comic & Cartoons Canon’ is not ‘Official Game Canon™’ ...weirdly enough it’s been consistent, especially compared to, y’know, Blues. (Blues, who 100% had a game canon hairstyle from his debut in MM3.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Classic Rock’s hairstyle is drawn really uniformly. Sometimes it’s black, sometimes it’s brown, sometimes it’s desaturated navy blue, but it’s always a dark color and even with radically different art styles his hair still has the same basic, well, shape.
Tumblr media
The same goes for Bass! Ariga’s sketch isn’t even canon for Gigamix, and we only see some hair poking out of his broken helmet in Archie comics. But like Rock, the style is consistent, and both times it’s colored in, his hair is dark. (The sketch is just not colored in. It could be light, it could be dark. There’s also a sketch of Blues on the same page... his hair isn’t colored in either.)
The Rockman & Forte manga ran from April 1998 to January 1999. From what I can gather, the “Burning Shot” short is from 1998.
Rockman Gigamix was published in 2009. The sketch Hitoshi Ariga drew of helmetless Forte was at FanExpo Canada, August 2010.
Archie's Worlds Collide crossover ran from April to August 2013.
It’s entirely possible that Kouji Izuki came up with something for the game’s manga adaption, and when asked about it on the spot Ariga drew from that, and then Archie comics kept what was previously done by the manga artists. Especially given how Archie loved to pack in references to other Mega Man ‘verses.
Conversely, any one of them could’ve gone with whatever unique design they wanted, and they didn’t. I think it’s possible that the artists and writers producing licensed franchise spin-offs might have had access to unreleased “series bible” material that we the public will never get to see because Capcom has totally forgotten this character exists in the first place. So the real question is: after Novas Aventuras, did Capcom have the wherewithal to go “hey maybe we should lay down some guidelines on how these characters are depicted”?
Tumblr media
(Quick comparison of how helmet failure is shown for both characters in Archie comics. Rock’s hair is disheveled from the fight, yet still the right style and color.)

it's very late at night so i'm bad at talking but hello. quick man. what about him? what's your favorite part about him what's his deal to you sitting down hands folded together etc.
I really like him.
also I find it funny that he's really expressive in archie comics while he's so serious in megamix/gigamix lol
feel like he would probably talk too fast to the point where his mouth is not in sync with his voice box when he's excited
also, it feels like his fashion would probably consist of wearing cargo pants/shorts with button-up shirts and putting on any cool ties he finds in wilys closet
also, I feel like he would probably listen to nightcore songs, like he has some sort of playlist with basically the same music but with different speeds/pitch and rocks himself when he listens to music

Ask Proto!Roll Q&A and Rules
Rules and Q&A will be updated whenever necessary
1 - Keep it SFW
I don’t need to say much here, these guys are technically built to be kids. just don’t ask anything NSFW. Any NSFW asks will be blocked.
2 - No Spamming
If the characters didn’t answer it was probably for good reason.
Either I (Melody) haven't gotten to it yet/forgot, it broke a rule, or I flat-out didn't receive it.
3 - Try to keep the questions in universe
There are some questions that the characters will be unable to answer because they probably don’t know.
If you have a question about the AU as a whole, or about something outside the characters perspective, I’ll still answer, it just won’t be in character.
Are magic anons allowed?
Yes, but please use “for ___ asks” if you do, makes things so much easier on my end. especially considering the in-universe reason I have for magic anons even being possible.
Will Blues ever become a fighting robot?
Plot-wise, no. I don’t plan on giving him weapons. He can actually hold his own pretty well without them.
Can I draw fan art for this AU?
YES PLEASE THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!
Just remember to credit me and link back to the blog if you do so more people can find it
Why is Beat Red?
If you've seen this question you'll have already seen my explanation, however, I'll still put it here for future reference.
It is my headcanon that Dr. Cossack made Beat the color blue to match Rock as he was a thank-you after the events of Mega Man 4.
However, Because Beat was made for Roll in this AU, Cossack made him red to match her.
Make of that what you will.
What sources do you take inspiration from?
I look to a variety of sources for inspiration in terms of story/lore for the Proto!Roll AU
Including the Archie comics, megamix, gigamix, and even the mega man fan film, among others.
Those are just a few examples.
How does a robot discover they're not 3-laws-complient?
That is a question you'll have to look at this post to see the answer to.
What characters are available for questions?
Currently, the characters available for questions include:
Rock (Mega Man)
Blues
Roll (Proto!Roll)
Dr Light
Fauxbot (name revealed here) Temporarily Unavaliable for questions
And Original 6 robot masters (Temporarily avaliable)
More characters will probably become available over time.

Who are your top 8 Robot Masters? (Of the Mega Man variety)
OOOOOH I LOVE THIS QUESTION! FUCK! It's hard to choose just eight and yet eight seems like so many!
1. Skullman. The Megamix/Gigamix comics are what got me into Megaman and Skullman's story in particular is what really hooked me and made me fall in love.
2. Toadman! He's fukcin froggy.
Tumblr media
3. Snakeman. Writing my interpretation of him just unlocks something in me and it brings me immense joy. Plus he's snek.
4. Shadowman. Another really cool character, triple threat who gets unique stories in Super Adventure Rockman, Megamix comics, and the Archie comics.
5. Shademan. He's the favorite Robot Master of my friend who got me into Megaman in the first place and showed me all these wonderful comics, so he's got a huge soft spot in my heart. Plus, shipping him with Skullman (and sometimes Shadowman!) is my shiiiiiit.
6. Heatman! I love this dude. He's such a rectangular unit. He's short. He's HOT.
youtube
7. Tundraman. What a cool dude! I keep thinking he'd be fun to cosplay.
8. Hornetman. I've always found his development journey to be an interesting one, the way he was originally planned to be "Honeywoman". I've always wanted to play with that and conceptualize it into my stories, usually by the way of Dr. Wily figuring out how to help him transition.
But of course, there's so many Robot Masters that I like without much deep meaning too. It's hard not to like most of them? Like, they're just so charmingly simple in design. My favorite "set" is probably the Cossack bots, most likely because of the Ariga comic once again. They're the only Robot Master set that I really view as a family in the sense that they're all brothers. (I simply don't view Wily bots as familial at all with each other and the only Light bots I understand as siblings are Rock, Roll, and Blues.) For me, a fun aspect about Megaman is actually how flexible you can get with interpreting the characters, because honestly the canon of the games gives us SUCH little to work with. Most of these guys get a like, a dislike, and their function, which means you can fill in the gaps with a lot of stuff.
Toadman, for example, is a character I've seen wildly different interpretations of and I've loved each one. They all make sense, even if they are vastly different. Somewhere, Toadman is described as "tone-deaf". One interpretation I've seen of this is that Toadman is a dancer at heart who doesn't care who's watching or about the rhythm of any drum. This can be backed up by the fact in game that his attack is literally just him dancing. This understanding of the character takes him as a free spirit that will dance no matter the occasion, tone-deaf as in lacking a certain situational awareness. Meanwhile, another interpretation of him that I've seen is that he is hard-of-hearing. This plays into the fact that he has no ears nor indication in his design that he can pick up audial cues. He's a toad or frog, after all. Particularly high pitched noises, he cannot pick up on... Ergo, tone-deaf. Either way, both interpretations do seem to agree that he is not a fighter and is more pacifistic by nature, likely based off of the fact that he's considered one of the easiest boss fights in all of Megaman.
Are these exactly what Capcom meant with that description? Maybe? Maybe not? But I don't really care, I love these huge extrapolations. While I obviously don't want every fandom or media to work this way, I do think it's a very fun quirk about Classic Megaman in particular.

yeah i dont think it was until MM11 where the games themselves actually confermed they were "rivals" since college, and while SAR definitely has Language based hints into their relationship and even Wily's strange little head (when the second villain betrays Wily and is threatening to kill the Second and Third Numbers Wily yells something along the lines of "No! You cant! I wont let you! I love them!" And yes he does say love!!), its status as dubiously canon (and also a very difficult game to not only get a hold of but also hard to play) makes its evidence for character relationships of all types more of... more of an optional idea you can draw from for adaptation rather than strictly true
The Mega/GigaMix manga and the Archie comics both got to the idea before the games probably because the tragedy and emotional drama that can be drawn from it is much stronger and well... lets be honest here MM1 and MM2 don't exactly have very complicated or compelling stories without the Wily being a former lost friend whos gone nuts angle. In my opinion the stories of the games don't really pick up and get interesting till MM4 with Cossack but a lot of this could be explained as a byproduct of being completely locked in to only Mega Man's PoV for basically every single event that occurs, and sweet Rock ... oh he is so not a aware of many things going on. Like, depending on your country and adaptation, Rock doesn't know Proto is his Big Bro. Or maybe he does! In the English versions he probably does because MM7 Proto says the words, and for us here in NA the Ruby Spears cartoon would not shut the fuck up about it so there will be a lot of blead back from that adaptation, but in Japan they lean into the Speed Racer and Racer X angle a bit more and Light often shuts down conversations about Blues and laments he doesn't know how to tell Rock about this, but there is always the off chance Rock had figured it out on his own and isn't saying anything since we only ever see into their lives when Wily is doing something and they you know, have much more pressing matters at hand
where was i going with that... oh right yeah so uh because of whose PoV we occupy and the type of games that the series is as well as the language we're in, there is SOOOOO MUCH information we do not and probably will never know from the games themselves, so the dubiously canon games and other Adaptations are where we will be getting our best content from
My interest in the Megaman series as a whole isn't particularly strong given that it's been a few good years, but I can never pass up the opportunity to discuss 65+ year olds in love.
I do not recall if Light and Wily being former colleagues is something that was established outside of American localization of the games prior to Megaman 11's release, though I would be surprised if such was the case.
That said, ever heard of a little spin-off by name of "Super Adventure Rockman", an interactive movie with middling gameplay elements released in 1998 for the Playstation and Sega Saturn? Courtesy of Windii Gitlord, its English subbed cutscenes are readily available on Youtube. I bring it up because, within the first chapter, Light refers to Wily with the "-kun" honorific when directly addressing him.
(https://youtu.be/ymGGBpmDPkI - 7:00 & 7:16)
I am by no means familiar with the nuances of the Japanese language in particular, but I know for certain that "-kun" is informally used amongst close, old male friends.
This isn't anything all that grand, but I thought you might appreciate hearing about it, from one old man enthusiast to the next.
-☀️
WAIT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT, THAT'S SO💥💥💥
I was vaguely aware of super adventure rockman, but I didn't know light called him wily-kun wtf 😭😭 that's on par with them being on first name/nickname basis in the english comics to me
though them being former friends/colleagues was confirmed in the gigamix manga if I recall correctly! (although after looking into it, it seems the specific volume was released around 2010, so super adventure rockman was definitely quicker on the draw in that regard)
thank you for telling me! I watched the cutscenes you linked and. Ogh

I will be thinking about these and the -kun thing for a hot minute. I hate them /pos

Re-uploads + Doujinshi update
I've received comments that my Mega Man mangas are missing pages. So I decided to redo them! I finished Vol. 1, Ch.1 and 2 and re-uploaded them on archive.org and decided to finally put them on Dropbox. Ch.3 and the bonus content will be uploaded later next week. You can read the older version on Mangadex still.
Second, I recently received my second to last Ehoba doujinshi - 'When You Wish Upon A Star' (R-18) Re-uploaded the vanilla version as I mis-numbered a page. Oops! this past Wednesday and decided to finally upload it along with Astro Boy 2003 Vol.2, Ch.1. (Re-uploading this one too, Vol.1 is on archive.org. , older copies on Mangadex as well)
I'm a bit hesitant but I decided to upload Ehoba Doujnshi on archive.org as well. Hopefully then won't be taken down. Once Mangadex allows uploads again I'll put them there along with Blue Knight and Jetter Mars. The last doujinshi should be here by mid july if I had to take a guess.
My archive.org account I'm tired, so I'm not posting my other links. I'm sure you all have them already.
Phew, I've been busy sense my last update! I bought Owlboy on Steam two days ago and I loving it. Shame the fandom is dead tho.
Tagging active Astro Boy fans (Ask if you want to be untagged!)
