You think you're gonna take us down? Well Mechanical Man you just try it! You're gonna ride that rail out of town cause it's a
ROBOT RIOT!!
Welcome one and all, organical and mechanical alike to the Robot Riot! Here we're going to pit robots and their meatbag pals against one another to see who is the truly superior team!
What exactly does that mean? Up to you! Are they playing Monopoly? Are they fighting to the death? Who knows! Either way it's a Robot Riot! Maybe they're having a joke competition, then it's a Robot Laugh Riot. Vote using whatever criteria you want; I will not judge you. Publicly. Probably.
So before we get to that little submission form, a couple rules.
Each team must consist of 1 robot + 1 organic buddy pal partner colleague etc. AI count, so duos like Master Chef + Cortana or Epsilon + Carolina qualify, and pets count, so duos like Data and Spot or Jimmy and Goddard count.
The only qualifiers are that the relationship must have received some kind of attention from the narrative (ex Boyd and Huey but not Boyd and Dewey), and the relationship must be positive (ex Data and Geordi, Data and Riker) or neutral (ex PotatOS and Chell, Norm and Doofenshmirtz). If you're unsure or the canon is unclear, it'll go to the judges.
I am still on the fence about trios; tentative ruling is if the relationship is strong on all three sides feel free to submit it, but specify which two you'd prefer to submit as a duo just in case I decide not to do trios.
Don't spam submissions! Numbers aren't even going to be the only factor in choosing who gets in anyway so it's not even guaranteed to help, but if I suspect you're spamming one duo I may disqualify them. One submission per duo per person.
One duo per submission! If you have more than one duo, submit them separately, please.
No ocs (sorry), no characters from Harry Potter or Critical Role, no real people.
Submissions will remain open till Sunday, August 13, 2o23, which will give you plenty of time and me a chance to get through my current tournament.
And here's the submission form:
Obligatory tagging some other polls for visibility under the cut:

Round L6, Poll #12 (Losers bracket 1K FINAL)
Remember, this is the losers bracket. We are matching up the winners of round L5. The winners will move on to the second losers brackets in round L7, and the losers will be revealed and eliminated.
Character 87: Exiled from her village after being falsely accused of murdering the head of her village, she found her way to the main setting of the story and joined a dance troupe. She attracted the attention of a pair of red-haired twins who loved her and was set for a good life until she was kidnapped and forced to have the main antagonist child, after which she was thrown away into an asylum. She escaped from there with the twins, and began a life long quest to protect her daughter, knowing that her father wanted to use her to establish an iron grip over his country. She and her daughter are virtually identical, both being very petite with long blonde hair. She later uses this to her advantage to take her daughter's place so she can escape her father's grasp once and for all. She causes a riot and goes out in a blaze of glory, not only thwarting all of the antagonist's plans, but also taking his life. She can dual-wield knives and is incredibly smart. Also since the setting of the story is during World War Two, and the main antagonist allies himself with the Nazis, she does in fact, kill a Nazi. Good for her!
Character 196: She's an AI who masquerades as a human superhero who build giant dragon robots to keep people safe. The big source of pathos for her is that she genuinely wants to do good things, but her creator left a lot of restraints in her that force her to do it and sometimes prevent her from doing the right thing. Plus a self-righteous jerk is breathing down her neck with a killswitch she physically can't know about. It's sad because she is the most heroic character in the setting.

the second golden bolt tournament premiere review/analysis 🔩
Welcome ladies, gentlemen, and gentlethems to the first of many Battlebots episode reviews and analysis. I was going to do a liveblog but I feel asleep not even half way through and I finished the episode earlier today. If you haven't seen the new episode I highly suggest you do, there's a lot of things that went down and its just a good premiere and episode, but if you haven't you might wanna scroll. (also this is going to be a long one who prepare your nuts people YES I MEANT WHAT I SAID.)
Anyhow LETS GET IT ON, *BRO*
First of, I wanna start with the changes with this show and the differences between this season and the last one. The most notable one is the removal of the matchup with the gatekeeper from the last season. I thought they were going to reveal it in the end or make it so that the final competitor standing does not know who they're fighting until near the end, but no! They don't even mention it beforehand at all in the episode and the last bot standing instantly goes to the finals. Idk why they removed it, I THOUGHT THEY WERENT BUT I GUESS NOT?? Based on the little clips they showed at the start they showed Will Bales, and I thought this was because Hypershock was going to be a gatekeeper for this season but IDK THEY REMOVED IT?? I do kinda miss that aspect of the show because its what made it more interesting for sure but it did really caught me off-guard with it. Maybe Hypershock will be in one of the brackets? Or maybe they just won't compete at all. Idk, its just something I thought was worth mentioning because I couldn't really find it being discussed anywhere. Also I love Kenny's Key and their.... interesting connotations. Aside from that there's no big changes, so let's get to the fights themselves! SHREDDIT BRO! vs Skorpios - Wow. Whoever predicted Shreddit Bro was going to come out like Minotaur on this one should be given an gold medal WHAT AN OPENING FIGHT. Idk what Evan Arias did to the robot before this but they're looking like a beast out there. The Bro™ was so dominant and all over Skorpios the full fight, if you showed this fight to someone who's never seen the show they'll think its some top tier contender for the title. NO ITS JUST SHREDDIT BRO AND THEY JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE- also I just realized Zach look kinda as his bot was being counted out UEUEUEUEUE I WANNA GIVE HIM A HUG :( YOU TRIED YOUR BEST PRODUCERS JUST REALLY FUCKED THEM OVER BY GIVING THEM A DRUM </3333333 Overall great opener, really good start for Shreddit Bro.
Rotator vs Terrortops - Idk if I have much to say about this fight as much as the last one, but Terrortops didn't do too bad here, they survived a while against Rotator which is not easy. But yeah, this was Rotator's fight to win and its pretty satisfying seeing them be so dominant again.
Switchback vs Kraken - WOAH YOU GUYS IT WENT TO THE JUDGES HOW SHOCKING! Yeahh Kraken got pretty beaten here, I realized these two are pretty similar in design but Switchback just kept delivering the hits. I don't have anything else to say except good performance from Switchback and this is Matt Spurk's TENTH loss in a row since Rusty jabbed Kraken's face out. Like that is just brutal. SOMEONE GIVE THIS MAN A HUG AND A GOOD OPPONENT PLS </333
Valkyrie vs Ominous - I'm starting to see a pattern here that all the winners had something to prove and has mostly really improved since last season. I thought Ominous would've held on a bit better because of that big plow but yk. yeah. This fight was honestly the best they've performed in a while until the next fights, like I think something simultaneously clicked for all the winning teams in the pits and they decided to POP TF OFF- and honestly?? good for them. good for them.
(okay that took a while to write but its okay. just. 3. more. fights.)
SHREDDIT BRO! vs Switchback - Okay if Minotaur and Shreddit Bro doesn't happen in season 8 I'm rioting. BUT ALSO Switchback, yk in the first 5 seconds WASNT DOING BAD and then he lost the chain. At that point The Bro™ the starting chewing away at him like he was Minotaur. SERIOUSLY HOW? BUT ALSO IM REALLY IMPRESSED. Like I love how this episode was just full of twists and turns and the fandom were collectively shocked at how out of nowhere their wins and dominance are. LIKE THAT LAST HIT WAS INSANE and usually Switchback's pretty durable and bulky. I think if they can figure out a way to protect the wheels, maybe some armor, and get their weapon to not hit the floor, they can be a force to be recon with. (also ik what I described is basically Minotaur but listen let Evan cook okay.) This was the fight I started becoming a Broliever one would say. I believe in the bro that brolieves in me. ooh yeah gottem. (im not mentally stable someone help)
Rotator vs Valkyrie - We all knew producers were going to hype up this rematch and it did not disappoint. Both robots held up really well against each other but Rotator's plow was a really good choice. I do think that Rotator would've had a chance if they'd boxrush them, but otherwise Valkyrie was winning this. Credits to Lucy for staying aggressive and if there were more time I think the plow and side armor would've been completely ripped out. I do prefer the first fight but this fight was still really good.
Okay. That was a lot of fights. But lets take a break and get on with the AWARDS!! First off, the Excellence in Sportsmanship went to Rory Mangles of Monsoon. I didn't know who he was at first but when I was looking through Reddit and seeing the stories, yeah, this guy deserves it. What an absolute chad. This did get me thinking, with this award and the Founder's Award, it got me thinking that these awards can now be awarded to an individual person and not just a full team which is really cool. Now onto the Most Destructive which NOT ONLY DIDNT GO TO SHITTIDE BUT WENT TO MY BOY HUUUUUUGE!! WOOOOOOOO YEAHHH BABY!! THATS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR, THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!! ahem Okay seriously I thought it was either going to Shittide or Copperhead 100% and I understand why ppl would be surprised at this BUT I AM NOT COMPLAINING WE TAKE THIS W. EAT SHIT ETHAN. Onto the Grant Imahara: Best Design Award goes to RIPperoni and honestly I didn't see it going anyother way, maybe except Horizon but theyre design wasn't performing well, so RIPperoni was really the only pick. And finally, the Founder's Award which goes to Martin Mason! HONESTLY REALLY DESERVED he is the spirit of the sport and overall he just seems like such a great guy. Good for him. Good for him. Now, with all that aside, its time for the finals.
SHREDDIT BRO! vs Valkyrie - Coming into this fight I wanted The Bro™ to win because of their story, but Valkyrie really did good by breaking their drum, but Evan did amazing trying to adapt and get Valkyrie to break their spinner. Just shows that even when Evan is being this cool guy character he's really smart and tactical. I'm so excited for what's to come from this bot and congrats to Evan. Good for him. Good for him.
This episode was a really good start to the season and next weeks episode is a really stacked lineup. I personally think Black Dragon, and MadCatter or Whiplash are my picks for the finals but I'm personally rooting for my boy REESE EWERT FROM FUSION LETS GOOO REESE FUCK THEM UP!! As for SHREDDIT BRO!, I think they lose against Sawblaze, a pretty good chance against Tantrum, and 50/50 against End Game. THINK ABOUT IT we live in a timeline where SHREDDIT BRO has a good chance at beating the former champions. LET THAT SINK IN THE DOOR. I do kinda think the pacing was kinda off this episode but overall this is a really good start to the season, a solid 8/10 episode for me.
ok now im going to sit down time to rest. good night tristate area.

CS:GO players have better mechanics, but Overwatch players excel in game sense, says T1 VALORANT
2020 saw the debut of VALORANT, which quickly established itself as a top FPS title. Riot Games' inaugural first-person shooter quickly attracted players from both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch since it was seen as somewhat of a blend between the two games. Now, three years into the game’s life cycle, VALORANT‘s professional player base still overwhelmingly consists of esports players with prior history competing in either CS:GO or Overwatch. But even though VALORANT has carried over certain elements and concepts from both of these titles, the two games it takes inspiration from are markedly different. While one focuses on tactics and mechanical skill, the other rewards players who thrive in a fast-paced environment with many different utility options. The differences in the instincts of players from CS:GO and Overwatch are stark, and as the pro players on Korea’s T1 can attest to, each game offers a unique outlook as former esports stars make the jump to Riot’s FPS title. “I think the players who come from CS have better fundamentals when playing the game,” Ha “Sayaplayer” Jung-woo said via translation at a post-match press conference after T1’s VCT Pacific lower-bracket final loss. Sayaplayer, known more often by the shortened form of his tag, just “Saya,” has competed in professional esports since 2016, the same year Overwatch was released. He played for Korean team Meta Athena before joining the Overwatch League in 2018, where he spent just over two years with the Florida Mayhem. Even though Saya was revered as one of the best Widowmaker players in the world during his time in the Overwatch League, he still expressed an overall sentiment that mechanical skill from CS:GO seems to transfer better into VALORANT. Mechanical or fundamental skills refer to a player’s ability to move their character around and hit targets accurately with their weapons. “For Overwatch players, I think they are better at grasping the tempo and various skills in the game,” Saya said. The design of various agents’ utility in VALORANT is as unique as some of the mind-blowing abilities in Overwatch, but the abilities in Riot’s FPS are more standardized, still allowing for an emphasis on gun usage, weapon economy, and—of course—individual aim. But with colors from smokes, flashes, and robot friends cluttering your monitor as you look for gun fights in VALORANT, it only seems natural that experienced Overwatch players would thrive in this chaos. Saya’s journey into VALORANT has been somewhat chaotic as well. He began playing in North America for T1’s original roster in 2020, when he changed his gamer tag temporarily. Then he joined The Guard, only to transfer back to T1’s newly Korean roster for the 2023 VCT season. Through his VALORANT career so far, he has mostly been surrounded by CS:GO players. Yet T1’s rebuilt team for 2023 has more former Overwatch players on the starting roster than players from any other game. Esports veteran Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom has played for two teams in his Overwatch League career, the Seoul Dynasty and Boston Uprising. Like Saya, Munchkin was mostly a hitscan player, meaning he played heroes that required excellent aim and other mechanics to be successful. “I agree about the fundamental skills for CS:GO players,” Munchkin said at the press conference. “I think when Overwatch players become VALORANT players, they are better at understanding how to counter the other players’ utility.” Counter-play strategies have always been a core part of both Overwatch and Overwatch 2. Though changing your agent mid-match isn’t possible in VALORANT, using utility to negate enemy abilities certainly is. This part of the game, Munchkin said, seems to click better for former Overwatch players. In general, the VCT Pacific League has more former Overwatch players than any other league, while the EMEA League is largely made up of players with roots in CS:GO. This has resulted in more Pacific players being known for their utility usage, while EMEA players are known for their mechanics. For example, VCT Pacific’s 2023 regular season MVP Kim “MaKo” Myeong-gwan has a positive KDA across every agent he has played this year: Viper, Omen, and Brimstone—all controller agents that require utility usage to play effectively. In contrast, Fnatic’s Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev had the highest successful clutch percentage in Masters Tokyo while only playing duelists, indicating that even by himself with little utility to work with, his mechanics alone allow him to survive. While both Sayaplayer and Munchkin retired from professional Overwatch in 2020 to switch to VALORANT, their teammate Lee “Carpe” Jae-hyeok made the transition to the game less than a year ago. “Based on what game they have played before, I think it changes how players understand VALORANT,” Carpe said. “But since we are all VALORANT players, I think it is most important for us to focus on how we understand VALORANT, not our former games. I don’t think those games make a big difference. Instead, it differs based on where players come from, or what region they play in.” While Saya and Munchkin seem to have noticed a difference between former players of both games, Carpe insisted that when it comes down to it, a player’s understanding of VALORANT is all that actually matters. As the VCT leagues have all seen more and more young players without previous esports experience at a high level, like much of Korea’s top team DRX, it seems true this past experience may not actually make much of a difference in reality. Either way, VALORANT’s success has sparked interest from not only people who enjoy the FPS genre, but also those who want to try out a game like this for the first time. Regardless of previous experience, there can be a place for anyone on the VCT stage, though how you play could still reflect some of your past. Read the full article

You know what? Fuck it. I’m sick of sitting passively by, listening to people ask “how do you know if you’ve never tried?” and tell me that no-one cares while you sit there with a shit-eating grin and say “this is a great debate we should do this more often”. A debate? My sexuality is a debate?! Fuck you. Telling me that I bring up great points when I’m giving you facts and you ask stupid fucking questions that I hear all the time is not a debate. It’s a chore.
And how DARE you? How dare you say to me that I need to be fixed, that I can be cured if only I could “find the right somebody”. “How do you know if you’ve never tried?” you ask me as though I haven’t tried. You assume I haven’t?
I destroyed great friendships because I tried to convince myself I had a crush on them. I tore myself apart in so many ways because I tried to tell myself that there was someone out there just for me. My life has been a living hell because I TRIED. Every goddamn fucking day, I’ve tried. And then you ask why I’m angry??
Fuck you. Of course I’m angry!! I’ve been sold this idea of love and romance and sex being the be all and end all of the universe every goddamn day of my life. Every single fucking thing I’ve watched, read, listened to - about him or about her. About how True Love saves the day. How they only live happily ever after when they’re married and riding off into the sunset staring longingly into each other’s eyes. And then I’m forced to endure sex scenes and romances that are so out of place that it jars me out of the narrative so utterly and completely while everyone else applauds and nods and agrees “Yes, they are so in love”. Then they point at a background character who hasn’t even got a goDDAMN FUCKING NAME and tell me Look! There’s your representation! Be happy!!!” all the while writing fanfiction about that character passionately fucking another character because #OTP #loveislove
FUCK. YOU. Of course I’m going to be absolutely fucking livid! You give me representation and then take it away all in the same breath! I watch as characters who are asexual are cured of their medical condition and suddenly they are not asexual anymore! I watch as characters that have never expressed any interest in romance - who have been around 60, 70, over 100 fucking years!!! - are paired off in heterosexual relationships (as though there aren’t enough of them around). Characters who are made canonically asexual and then a couple of years later, a new writer doesn’t agree with that and rewrites the entire canon so the audience can relate to them more (as though they weren’t a fan favourite already). Characters who are made the butt of jokes, characters who are placed in the same bracket as incest, characters who we are very clearly meant to hate.
And if the canon doesn’t fuck them over, the fandom sure fucking does.
Pages and pages and pages of fanart and fanfiction all dedicated to shipping my representation with other characters, while I’m shoved aside and told “it doesn’t matter. It’s not a big deal, there’s no need to yell”.
No need to yell? And yet you’ll start entire so-called ‘fandom wars’ over Shiro/Keith and Keith/Lance? You’ll yell and get angry and start a riot when gay characters are made straight and I’m not allowed to do the same for asexual characters? How DARE you.
How very fucking dare you?
I am made to endure and put up with all this shit and then - on top of all of that - then you have the audacity to tell us we are not welcome in your safe spaces, that we don’t exist, that we’re seeking attention (because bringing attention to a sexuality is such a bad thing, right?). I have to sit and listen to you as you describe us as aliens - as emotionless, unfeeling robots. You tell us we are as far removed from human as you can get. I have been told that I’m not right, I’m broken, I’ll never be understood and nor should I be. I spent years telling myself those very same things before I even came across the word asexual, piling on depression and anxiety and loneliness. I don’t need someone who doesn’t even take the time to try to understand to tell me that I must have a medical condition or that I was sexually abused as a child or that I just need to “give it a chance”. I don’t need people telling me that “it sucks” that I’m aroace, that I’m “not normal”, or asking me what I’ll do when I’m old and have no-one to look after me. I don’t need it. I don’t.
I’m already told all this in a hundred thousand different ways every day when I walk outside and see a billboard featuring another ‘sex sells’ advert. Every day, when I watch TV and see yet another out of place romance. Every day, when I walk into a shop and a love song is playing over the speakers.
Fuck you.
“How do you know if you’ve never tried?” How do YOU know?
I’ve had people ask me “isn’t it lonely?” They ask me how I’ll ever feel fulfilled if I never experience love and when I point at my friends, they laugh and say “no, I mean romantically” as if the way I love isn’t valid. Why is romance so much more fulfilling than platonic? “It just is,” they’ll reply as though that explains everything. It doesn’t.
They tell me how love is so amazing and great and then in the next sentence moan about their significant other or cry about how heartbroken, how depressed they are because their boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with them. “I’ll never love anyone ever again, I guess that makes me asexual” they say as they chat up their next partner and I grit my teeth and smile and nod because I’ll never understand so how can I judge?
So fuck you. I’m not going to just sit here and let you tell me that my representation doesn’t matter. Not when it took me 17 years to finally find asexuality. Not when it took others far longer. And definitely not when some go their whole life feeling broken or force themselves to do things they don’t want to just to try to fit in. We exist whether you understand us or not and we need our representation too.
#asexual#asexuality#jughead jones#sexuality#jughead#angry post#representation matters#I'm so sick and tired of this bullshit#feel free to add more#forgive me if it doesn't read well#I wrote it in a fit of anger

Round W1, Poll #46
Remember, this is the winners bracket. The winner will move on to round 2 of the winners bracket, while the loser will drop to round 3 of the losers bracket.

Can we send a group of robots? There's like a robot boy band in No Straight Roads but I don't know if that would be okay.
1 robot + 1 meatbag, potentially +1 third wheel if I agree to do trios (we're currently leaning in that direction, since I've been submitted several good ones)
I'm sorry, I know this seems unfair, but there are twofold reasons for this: 1, the more characters there are the more work there is for me- even with trios, I intend to be very picky with which ones I allow, and 2, it doesn't feel fair to me. If you have five characters vs two, that's five fanbases against two, which tips the scales. It's why I'm on the fence about trios even, and why I'm not doing tiesweeps in this bracket.
There is also that this is specifically about the relationships between robots and non-robots. As when I did Artificial Kids, I'm doing this because if there's one thing I love in fiction, it's a robot (or any other artificially created character) who has a best friend who is also Other in some way, and they find belonging in each other. While I am certainly not against bonds between robots, or robots having multiple meatbags or meatbags being friends with multiple robots, the point is that this is not specifically about robots, but about the relationships between robots and living people (or nonliving- still got my fingers crossed for someone to submit a robot + a ghost). Just because it's called the robot riot, don't discount the equally important meatbags on the team.
