In the absence of normal social gatherings, breweries like Portland’s Hopworks Urban Brewery are taking steps to support your need to stay at home or practice safe social distancing.
Announced a couple weeks ago, Hopworks has released a variety case called “Homebound Hero 24 Pack”. Within this case are four six-packs of the brands core beers. This included Golden Hammer Organic Lager, Tree Frog Organic Pale Ale, Powell IPA, and Robot Panda Hazy IPA. Selling for $40, each case sold will help Hopworks donate $5 towards the Loopworks Foundation which is producing facemasks for Central City Concern.
“Here at Hopworks, we’re passionate about using beer as a force for good and this Earth Day we’re excited to focus on the health of people in addition to the planet,” said Christian Ettinger. “What better way to use reclaimed materials than to sew masks for local community members that need them most? We love contributing to this great partnership between purpose driven businesses.”
With a focus on supporting housing health care, and employment services for those experiencing homelessness, in Portland, Loopworks’ non-profit work is needed now more than ever.
Those wishing to order a case of Homebound Hero 24 Pack, can do so by visiting www.hopworksbeer.com which supports curbside pickup and no-touch delivery, until this Friday.
Besides supporting Loopworks, Hopworks’ core beers are developed as part of the “Salmon-Safe” certification. Besides supporting Salmon-Safe waters, the brewery is a member of B Corporation and their recent releases, Golden Hammer and Tree Frog, were certified USDA organic.
More on the beers from the mouths of the brewers
Golden Hammer Organic Lager features organic Northwest and German ingredients in a new take on Germany’s most popular beer: the Munich-style Helles. Notes of honey malt aroma and flavor greet herbaceous and floral hops at the castle door. Tree Frog Organic Pale Ale is fueled by organic Fuggle, Citra, and Mosaic hops that jump from branch to branch with juicy, floral notes that deliver the perfect amount of dank hop aroma. Powell IPA is Hopworks’ flagship IPA that celebrates its Powell Blvd. brewery, brimming with melon, tropical fruit, and a perfectly balanced bitterness. Finally, Robot Panda Hazy IPA is fruity and juicy with a fluffy mouthfeel and notes of spruce, tangerine, and papaya derived from Denali, Lemondrop, and Cascade hops.

In collaboration with artists Martin Ontiveros and Paige Buda, Hopworks Urban Brewery announces their 2020 releases.
Recognizing that many of you have elected abstention over consumption, during the month of January, the ownership and brewers of Hopworks Urban Brewery - one of the few certified organic breweries in the region - is happy to announce what’s waiting for you in February and into 2020.
Starting with a new can design, from Portland artist Martin Ontiveros (aka,  Martinheadrocks, illustrator and wizard), Hopworks Urban Brewery undergoes a cleanse with the help of an artist who has described his work as pop-occultism and “Creature Chic”. Furthering this ‘cleansing’ redesign, artist (and PSU grad) Paige Buda contributes using her unique approach of generating a narrative while inspiring a discussion.
Letting these two unique artists’ work speak for themselves, Hopworks Urban Brewery was happy to share their upcoming can design for calendar year 2020.

As one can see, the designs are not only colorful and iconic but might inspire one to collect rather than recycle the can.
And the beers? Well, rather than bore you with a comparison and contrast between 2019’s seasonal, limited edition, and full-time availability beers; the brewery has provided us the following confirmed beers, available all year and the following beers which have a limited window before they are retired.
Available all year
Powell IPA––Hopworks’ flagship IPA celebrates their mothership brewery on Powell Blvd in Portland OR. The beer is brimming with melon, tropical fruit, and a touch of dank. It’s low on bitterness and big on flavor. This beer is brewed to be your everyday IPA. Available now.
Golden Hammer Lager––Available around April 2020.
Robot Panda Hazy IPA––Robot Panda is a fruity, juicy Hazy IPA that balances a soft and fluffy malt body with big hop additions of Denali, Lemondrop, and Cascade. Tasting notes: spruce, Meyer lemon, tangerine, papaya, and bright lime zest.  Available now.
Tree Frog Pale Ale––Hopworks’ new pale ale is bursting with juicy and floral aromas. An easy drinking pale ale made with Fuggle, Centennial, Amarillo, Simcoe. Available around February 2020.
Available for a limited time, throughout the year
Juicy Bear IPA––Juicy and full bodied, yet absolutely crushable. Hopworks’ seasonal IPA springs to life with aromas of peach, tangerine, starfruit and papaya. Available from February 2020 to June 2020.
Totally Chill Hazy IPA––This Hazy IPA is loaded with pineapple and mango hop flavor from Azacca, Mosaic, and El Dorado hops. It’s brewed with a generous amount of oats and wheat for a super cloudy look and fluffy mouthfeel. Available from June 2020 to September 2020.
Abominable Winter Ale––Made with Northwest hops and malt, Abominable has a complex floral, spicy, and citrus hoppiness backed up by just the right amount of malt sweetness. Available from September 2020 to December 2020.
Besides the above, the brewery is committed to releasing more barrel-aged beers as well as the turn of Pig of War and whiskey barrel-aged Abominable Winter Ale.

Press Release
PORTLAND, Ore.—Dec. 29, 2020—Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB), the first B Corp brewery in the Pacific Northwest, has revealed its 2021 brand calendar of sustainable beer featuring a new year-round organic porter, a new line of Imperial IPAs inspired from its award-winning Ace of Spades, and the return of several fan favorites. 2021 will also mark the first time Hopworks introduces 19.2-ounce cans, including Robot Panda Hazy IPA and Powell Cryo IPA. “We are so excited to release what I think is the best lineup of beers in our 13-year history,” said Christian Ettinger, Founder and Brewmaster at Hopworks. “As a brewery full of hopheads, our new formulations are so tasty that I can’t wait for all of our fans to try every single beer in 2021. From fruited sours to Imperial IPAs and organic lager to organic porter, we’ve got all the flavor profiles covered!” Year-Round Beer After a massive brand refresh in 2020, Hopworks is introducing a new year-round organic honey porter, featuring artwork sure to create a buzz. The porter is brewed with organic honey from GloryBee in Eugene, Ore., and displays its Save The Bee program label, promoting funding for scientific research to enhance colony health and increase awareness of the role honey bees play in a healthy food supply. New for 2021 as well, Hopworks will roll out an updated recipe for its Powell Cryo IPA, utilizing all cryo hops from Yakima Chief Hops and increasing the beer’s bitterness to 75 IBU, emphasizing the dank, tropical notes core to its genesis. Additionally, Hopworks has doubled down on Golden Hammer’s Munich-style Helles origins, packing in even more old-world hops to enhance its signature herbaceousness that perfectly balances a honey malt aroma. Seasonal Beer Classics like Hopworks’ summer seasonal Totally Chill Hazy IPA and winter seasonal Abominable Winter Ale will return in 2021, along with its spring seasonal Juicy Bear IPA, which will see its second run in February. Come fresh-hop season, Fresh Hop Abominable will also return with even more fresh Centennial hop flavor. Ace Series Building off the success of its award-winning Ace of Spades, Hopworks is launching a new line of imperial IPAs in 2021 called the Ace Series. The Ace Series will feature the return of Ace of Spades IIPA, Fresh Hop Ace of Spades IIPA, Joker Hazy IIPA, and Ace of Diamonds Black IIPA; new to the series will be Ace of Clubs IIPA in January and Ace of Hearts IIPA in May. Hoppy Series Hopworks’ hoppy beer lane returns in 2021, kicking off in February with a brand new Dank IPA named Giggle Nuggets, followed by cult classics Pig War Hazy IPA and Evelyn Sunshine IPA. A twist on a big hit in 2020, Upstream Salmon-Safe IPA will be released as a fresh-hop beer before the year closes out with a re-release of Sunset Fuel Hazy IPA, named after the building where Hopworks’ Powell Mothership opened, and Critical Juncture, a fresh IPA release. Fruited Sour Series After a sour year of sour beers, Hopworks has created a new lineup of sours to complement its returning pumpkin ale, Great Gourds of Fire.
