how are you liking Veilguard so far?

i'm liking it!! the environments are gorgeous, the combat is fun, i'm liking all of the companions we have been given, and it's just good to be playing another dragon age game after so long. it's definitely not a perfect game by any means but i'm taking my wins where i can. i'm having fun playing it even if i don't exactly love at a lot of the writing choices, and maybe i'll write out proper critiques when ive finished the game?? but for now im chilling.

A headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that I disagree with: That she despises Akechi and would be happy to kill him if given the chance. She says in the game that she won’t forgive him (and that’s fine, she is not obligated to forgive him) but that doesn’t necessarily mean she wants to chop his head off. (Though I will joke about her being passive aggressive towards him.)

hello!! i probably wont be reopening them anytime soon, my best estimate for IF i did decide to reopen them would probably be sometime closer to the end of this year but l’ll be sure to post about it whenever i do either way

that’s a good question. i mentioned i don’t like ships that feel ‘generic’, and by that it means one that feels like a typical romance, nothing new or interesting enough for me is added to make me care.

i find shows that do “main boy x main girl get together” overdone. it can be done well, i like kim possible and ron stoppable’s romance for example. but if you wanna see it done badly, look at star and marco from star vs. they were established as both moving on from their feelings for each other and dated other people, only for both ships to just be dropped and that’s just one of the ship’s MANY problems.

besides that, i don’t have that much shipping pet peeves.

takes place during this–the night, according to the btvs comics, that giles and jenny fell in love.

“Hey,” said Jenny. Her voice was sleepy and low, her fingers curling quietly to grip the fabric of Giles’s shirt. “Hey–” She snuggled closer, mumbling something vaguely nonsensical as her breathing began to even out.

“Oh, Jenny, don’t,” said Giles gently. “It’s sunset in half an hour, you’ll upset your circadian rhythm–”

“My circadian rhythm can go die in a fire,” said Jenny into Giles’s shirt. “I’m gonna spend the rest of my life staying up late to help you research anyway, so what the hell does it matter if I end up keeping early hours? Do not fucking bar me from my thirty minute nap.”

Giles felt his breath freeze in his chest. “Don’t talk like that.”

“Hm?” Jenny raised her head, and her eyes softened. “Oh–no, Rupert, I don’t mean I’m going to die in Sunnydale. I do not intend to do that.”

Now Giles was beginning to feel breathless for an extremely different reason. “Then did you mean–”

“I am very, very tired,” said Jenny, hiding her face in his shirt in a way that suggested less exhaustion and more mortification, “and I think I’m still a little buzzed from that champagne–”

“Of course,” said Giles, a strange, new warmth blossoming in his chest. He knew Jenny quite well by now.

“–and honestly, I don’t even know what I’m saying when I’m buzzed and tired and my circadian rhythm is out of tune–”

He knew her well enough to know when she was covering up an accidental truth.

“–so just–” Jenny raised her head, blushing. “Just–” She exhaled, then smiled, and in that moment, she looked more frightened than Giles had ever seen her. “I really wish I could tell you I didn’t mean that,” she said.

“I know,” said Giles.

“I really wish I could tell you I don’t–think about us. Farther down the line.”

Giles rolled over onto his side, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Jenny’s ear. "What are your thoughts on children?” he said. “Dogs?”

Jenny stared at him for a stunned moment, then burst into a fit of violent giggles.

“Jenny, this is serious–”

“I was being authentic with you, Rupert!”

“And I’m being authentic with you!” Giles kissed her; she melted into the kiss with a pleased sigh. He pulled back, determined to continue. “I should like seven children–”

“Very Sound of Music,” said Jenny, grinning.

“Yes, except you don’t die, you live forever. Also we’ll have five dogs.”

"I’m sorry, are you expecting us to support seven children and five dogs on a teacher’s salary and–what is the Watchers’ Council paying you?”

“I have family money,” said Giles. “I’ll just kill my father and use the inheritance to finance our lifestyle.”

Jenny burst out laughing again, moving forward and into his arms. She was still giggling as she looked up into his eyes, smile soft and bright, and that was the moment that Giles knew.

“I do too, Jenny,” he said. His heart was pounding; he knew she could feel it. Watchers weren’t encouraged to selfishly think of any future for themselves, and up until now, Giles hadn’t. “Think. About you. More than duty permits.”

I love you.

“Me too, Rupert,” said Jenny very softly, and settled her head against his chest.

i agree with su’s approach to resolving conflict, that communication and compassion are some of the most powerful forces there are. i’ve seen people criticize it as being too unrealistic, or too sympathetic towards oppression...but i don’t really see it that way.

steven directly calls out what the diamonds are doing as wrong. he refuses to apologize for not agreeing with their beliefs. when given the chance to retreat, he refuses, because it’s THAT important to him that things be made right and not continue on the way that they have. he absolutely blames them for the bad things that have happened, and expects them to work to make it right with their actions. 

obviously things are MUCH more complicated irl, but su has always been an allegory for interpersonal relationships, how they shape us, and how we can navigate them. it was necessary that steven’s adversaries in this case were his “family” and not just some faceless oppressive force that’s completely disconnected from him.

i do agree the resolution of that conflict was WAYYYYY too fast in the s5 finale, tho. really hoping s6 straightens a few things out, because as-is i’m kinda disappointed with how easily and conveniently the diamonds were swayed.
