#due once di piombo (Il mio nome è Pecos)#2 once di piombo#my name is pecos#spaghetti western#italian cinema#1966#maurizio lucidi#adriano bolzoni#robert woods#pier paolo capponi#lucia modugno#peter carsten#luigi casellato#cristina iosani#massimo righi#renato mambor#maurizio bonuglia#giuliano raffaelli#george eastman#corinne fontaine#umberto raho#coriolano gori#in some ways a generic treatment of already familiar tropes; the mysterious stranger with a past‚ the frightened town‚ the band of outlaws#but Lucidi does some interesting things too. he brushes everything with a slight edge of dreamy otherness; it's in the scenes at a desolate#cemetery‚ or the sight of a hanged man with gold coins over his eyes (how are they staying there? it doesn't matter‚ it looks cool)#there's also some deeper subtextual work going on: there's a levelling with racism‚ admittedly not super deep‚ but it's there every time#Woods' lead has his heritage thrown in his face or spat on (and there's a superb moment in which he guns down two of his tormentors‚ one#falling against a gramophone which jumps to life playing mariachi music). there's also an interesting inversion of xtian imagery‚ with the#villain surrounding himself with 12 loyal gunmen‚ or the treacherous preacher who offers sermons 'not found in the bible' and plays cards#not exactly a groundbreaking or hugely innovative moment in spaghetti western history‚ but an intriguing film executed with style
