Corporeal Creeps
#BOOKREVIEW - Corporeal Creeps - #FleshedOut #blog
The human body has the ability to awe with all it can accomplish and withstand, but it can also be horrifically frightening or disgusting in equal measure if thinking about or analyzing it too closely, as happens within the thirteen short horror stories collected in Fleshed Out: A Body Horror Collection by Rob Ulitski. Across these stories, human bodies are explored, dissected, and reassembled…

𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬! Two years ago today, a random indie horror-lit platform called Godless opened for business. In those two years, we’ve: launched an app, created several original monthly series, created multiple shows on YouTube, won a Webby honoree, and, most importantly, released the most subversive horror books in the world. DAILY. Yes. We can brag today. No one has ever created anything remotely like this. So, be proud of yourself. Be proud of all of our accomplishments. This would never have worked without everyone’s help, participation, and involvement. I would personally like to thank all the authors, publishers, readers, fans, bloggers, podcasters, groups, and anyone who has even checked out what we have done. There are A LOT of new things coming… Including today’s FOUR HUGE new releases: Trigger Warning: Curses edited by Christine Morgan (Madness Heart Press) Berserk Viking Maternity Ward Bloodbath by Simon McHardy & Sean Hawker Fountain of Youth RV Park by RJ Benetti The Bloat by Rob Ulitski I believe that this lineup is the perfect mix of past, present, and future creators. And… ALL prices are slashed. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE support Godless today and help us break all the traffic and sales records. AGAIN! Don’t be the turd who puts 50 free books in their cart and fronts like they’re helping. This is an important day for all of us, and we need SUPPORT! Closing thought. We aren’t there yet but… WOW… look at everything we’ve accomplished so far. Sending all my love to you, fam. Keep your eyes open throughout the day for giveaways!  𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗨𝗖𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗦! https://godless.com/collections/the-big-deuce-is-here 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦! https://godless.com/collections/the-big-deuce ________________ #godless #godlessapp #godlesshorror #godlesshorrrors #horror #horrorbooks #horrorbookstagram #indiehorror #indiebooks #indiehorrorbooks #indiebookstagram #supportindie #godless2023 #ebook #extremehorror #splatterpunk #christinemorgan #simonmchardy #madnessheartpress #seanhawker #rjbenetti #robulitski #godless2years #godlessannive (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpz_1raLmEW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Review: ear candy’s newest emphatically upbeat indie-pop single ‘Lonely’ yet again boasts masterful lyricism in an anthemically addictive sound
Tumblr media
Back on the scene after recent singles ‘better alone’ and ‘take my dreams away’, the emphatically upbeat indie-pop artist ear candy has yet another offering of sugary beats intertwined with poignance to grip listeners in new single ‘Lonely.’ Yet again pairing his individual sound with masterful lyricism, it’s always a surprise ear candy isn’t a worldwide name yet. Producer and singer-songwriter Jamie Jordan, the man behind ear candy, has an abundance of potential to make this solo project a hit - and ‘Lonely’ yet again proves he cannot write a bad song.
Offering up more of ear candy’s immediately recognisable sound, ‘Lonely’ slots perfectly into his discography with yet another anthemic tune urging you get off your feet right from the get-go. As it begins with a perky bassline and ear candy’s airy and agile vocals, ‘Lonely’ begins a little personal and heartfelt before quickly bursting into an explosion of colour as a fluttering guitar riff punches the listener right into the dose of serotonin they needed. Bright clattering drums also interweave into the mix of vibrant tones and rhythmic beats that commence right as the first verse begins, adding a groove to tap along to that doesn’t falter in its dominance. With the riff coming to a swift pause for an atmospherically vast chorus, the guitar turns to a steady strum levelling alongside thudding drum beats that push ear candy’s vocals straight to the front and centre focus. Smoothly mesmerising the listener, it’s a dream to be caught up within ear candy’s powerful range and vocals that whilst gorgeously clean occasionally bear the human touch of strain and gravelly undertones for a real emotional captivation. As the bridge slows to a delicate drum beat, echoey spaced out guitar strums and softened vocals, this moment of delicacy and sincerity leaves ‘Lonely’ hitting even harder as this outburst of energy and spirit feels entangled within a real experience of pain turned into something beautiful to listen to.
Lyrically personal and poignant like all of ear candy’s bizarrely bubbly yet intimate songs, ‘Lonely’ takes back the power if you’ve ever found yourself tired of late night calls, being pushed away just to be dragged back, and the emotional manipulation that comes with all of it. Constantly hot and cold, one minute saying they’re done and the next they’re back in, lines like ‘you lost your feelings, but you say you’re lonely, why don’t you just hold me?’ capture the essence of the confusion of a back and forth a dysfunctional relationship like this carries. As the protagonist who may well be ear candy himself speaks, it appears they’re all in and constantly battling the mental tear of staying or leaving to preserve their sanity from constantly being played games with, ‘I can’t medicate myself from you, my head is gone.’ As a complete anthem of tiredness, frustration and a little well-deserved pettiness sprinkled in, ‘Lonely’ is easy to listen to and a pleasure to sing along to, especially if you’ve ever found yourself being torn apart by a partner who just can’t make up their mind. Starting and ending with the same lingering line, ‘there’s no longer a you and me, like it was all a dream’, ‘Lonely’ for the most part seems too lost to even feel the weight of heartbreak, yet this one line alone seems to finally close the chapter for good and cathartically burst the bubble of ‘will they, won’t they?’
Check out ‘Lonely’ for yourself here if you’re after an addictively vibrant indie-pop hit with a message you’ll either cathartically relate to or enjoy screaming along to regardless!

Pastel Wasteland – An Interview with Rob Ulitski
Back in December I reviewed Rob Ulitski’s VR – a potent and fascinating short concerning emerging technologies, social media and a vicious spirit with a distressing interest in cosmetics. A prolific film-maker based in Portsmouth; Ulitski has a number of projects on the go, but was able to spare some time to talk urban legends,  […]

October 2022 TBR
September was a fast month, but it seemed to slow down with the kids being in school again. It was hot here, but the weather cooled down as September ended. It went from being in the ’90s to being in the ’60s within a week (or so it seems). I am enjoying it (not a fan of hot weather here). This month’s list is rather short. I finished up September’s TBR early and got to work on October’s. Now,…

WWW Wednesday: September 28th, 2022
WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. The Three Ws are: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next? Personal: Miss R had a better week at school. Her teacher only called me once, and that was to let me know that she was begging to go home (which I said no to because she wasn’t sick). She wasn’t…
