I have a video I uploaded, i'll have to find it. But basically, yeah. Four wide going 160-200mph inches apart for dozens of laps? Like???

It's one thing to be on your own or near a couple people, not touching (not saying it's not an intense sport! Or that it's unskilled!). It's another to be bumping against each other and being in close quarters for 100% of the race, even on pit road.

Something people forget is how many drivers from other motorsports that try nascar and fail miserably.

Those that don't are decent on roadcourses exclusively (though Van Gisbergen is improving on ovals!)

Also the safety features are such that one car can shove a tire into the open window of a car and grind along the wall and everyone is fine.

Or someone can flip a dozen times and be fine (and race the next week!)

Or slide on their roof and hit a wall and get out under their own power and be fine.

Or get obliterated by other cars and be fine.

Nascar cars are so fucking safe.

There's still huge danger in them, of course, but wrecks are not just a common thing, but a hope for many races.

Nascar in the US has not had a fatality since I believe 2007, and they haven't had one anywhere in the world since 2009.

That isn't to say it's perfect, but if something goes wrong, that vehicle goes back to nascar R&D for a teardown to figure out what went wrong.

And often by the next week there's a mandatory change to every vehicle.

There's actually an official nascar discord, and last I knew you could listen to live driver audio through there. There's a lot of cursing for most drivers so prepare your delicate ears xD

But yeah, sometimes jumping in is what works best. My family is a nascar family, so I kind of had almost innate knowledge about it, so when I properly started watching it in 2018 or 2019, I wasn't as confused as I could have been xD

Just know their safety features are robust, and cars touching is normal. [Gay joke here]

it’s funny bc i vaguely remember going to a race with my family but in like the early 2000’s (tbh, i was probably chewing on my shirt) and it being fun despite the loud ass shit and all. plus the way my fixations are set up? oh this is gonna be light work to get into

it’s hilarious that these ‘stock’ cars have the same safety precautions as other moto series (or possibly better) bc so may people downplay it to just ‘oval racing’ or ‘the worlds longest left race�� (that one is funny) cause there’s soooo much precision needed to keep that sucker on the ground, esp bc it’s not like they’re made w the best downforce advantage.

Love got in a wreck (roadcourse babey!), and since the trucks and Cup are Illinois, but Xfinity was in Oregon, they didn't have their usual pit crews (one crew chief was actually his team's jackman yesterday!!), so the usual techniques were not... easy? Automatic? Idk. But the damage was extensive and they really wanted to get back in the race.

They didn't, unfortunately, but I believe that's because of mechanical problems. Certainly not for lack of effort.

Absolutely incredible work tbh, and i'm so impressed with Love's team. And concerned for that team member. They must be very bruised.

Parker Retzlaff continues to impress me. He calmly got himself down pit road, then got the hell out of the car when he needed to.

I first noticed him when he took an extra lap at a roadcourse for a noncompetitive pit stop (last year or the year before, maybe Portland?).

And he's continued to impress me.

I know this is his 5th DNF of the season, but. He's one to watch.
