blocking celebrities isn't activism. harassing celebrities bc they haven't said the particular thing you want them to say isn't activism. harassing celebrities bc they did say the particular thing you wanted, but did so after an arbitrary deadline you invented in your head, isn't activism.

sitting on social media complaining about how you don't think celebrity x or celebrity y has said enough of the right things about enough of the right causes is not fucking activism.

and posts like this that are really hyping up this 'block party' or whatever make me really roll my eyes bc they encourage people to think that blocking celebrities is a massive thing that can directly benefit people who are suffering. so they've done enough. so they no longer need to try. so their time is best spent posting on the internet like 'look at me, i blocked 20 celebrities today. did you block any? no, you reblogged a picture of an actor. i'm way more Good and Virtuous than you are'. so they think that cutting themselves off from art they enjoy and 'boycotting' the work of celebrities who haven't done enough performative activism is anything more than pointless self-flagellation.

people suffering and dying in gaza could not give less of a shit if you follow lizzo on instagram. call your reps. go to a damn protest. donate to a relief fund. log off and focus less on how you're going to show off that you give a shit and focus more on how you're going to actually help

they’re calling it block party 2024. just blocking and ignoring countless celebrities who havent said shit about palestine. influencers, actors, anyone who went to the met gala, whatever, they’re getting blocked. and people keep talking about how cathartic it is, how good it feels, how they never realized they could DO that. there was some kind of subconscious law against blocking famous people, but it’s broken, and people are LOVING it. and it’s WORKING. a social media/digital advertising coordinator was talking about how ad companies are PANICKING, because they can’t accurately target anymore. so many big influencers, including fucking LIZZO started talking about palestine the MOMENT their follower counts started going down. and the best part? no one is forgiving them. lizzo posted a tiktok asking people to donate to palestinian families, and all the comments just said you’re a multimillionaire. put your money where your mouth is. blocked.

i feel like i’m witnessing the downfall of celebrity culture, right here right now. people are waking up.

self-flagellating by giving up all forms of entertainment and joy and comfort

believing everything you read as the gospel truth bc it's posted by someone with the word 'palestinian' in their bio

using the word 'zionist' to describe everyone you dislike

using the word 'zionist' as a substitute for the word 'jewish'

boycotting random corporations that are not on the bds list

berating people for not participating in the 'global strike', or for pointing out that it was poorly organised and had no legal basis
