in theory, she should not be walking around the halls of the company without a sense of urgency. she should have been holed up in a practice room, doing god knows what else to make sure that she will be performing well for the end of the month evaluations. after doing that perpetually over the last few days, it can be argued that she’s exhausted. she is in desperate need of a break. even if the said break she is looking for would just be for a few pathetic couple of hours.

yet of course there is nowhere else to go in this building. she would have gone outside but the weather was too alarmingly warm. frighteningly so, as they were just in the cusp of the summer season. instead, she locates what she hopes would be an empty room and pushes it forward as she whispers prayers of luck to the heavens above.

“luna?” she asks, as soon as she sees that there was a person on the other side of the door. disappointment did not come, instead an overwhelming course of excitement traversed through her body. jisoo does not even care that she’s not alone; it just matters that luna’s here. she passes through the doorway with a smile on her lips. perhaps it was the happiest she has ever looked when it comes to greeting people. stopping a few meters away from the girl, she bows. “hello, it’s nice to meet you ashe-sunbaenim.” she greets her formally but laughs softly anyway. “look at you,” she gushes, looking at her friend proudly. “i saw your viral video when it came out. you looked exceptional.”

she’s handed the phone just as she makes herself comfortable in the backseat of the van. having mentioned it in passing to their manager before she and sunmi had their schedule at sbs power fm, she was happy to find her request accepted. and upon their return to the van, juhee relayed what she had in mind for her second v-live video. she knew some of the company’s pr team had mentioned it to her that she should have made it more of a habit of having v-lives, but suddenly being tossed into comeback practice had kind of derailed that plan.

so, she decides for a new video to play some of her favorite summer hits for fans -- albeit boring, juhee couldn’t really find any other way to spend with fans outside of reviewing her latest dramas she’d been binging on the side of their promotions and juhee wasn’t sure she was ready to cause fandom wars over dramas.

she can be seen fixing the phone in front of her in the car, her voice vying in and out as she laughs at something being said off-camera by their manager before she’s handed the snack that the studio had gifted them upon their departure from the studio. now that they’ve comeback juhee was getting more and more used to their radio appearances.

“hello everyone ~ did you just hear me and sun -- i mean darae unni on the radio? we were on sbs power fm! if you didn’t hear, maybe you can re-listen on their website!” her hand waves huge as she sets down her snacks in her lap and claps her hands to get rid of the crumbs that had stuck to her palms. “long time no see ~”

“i hope everyone has been well!”

“a-ah, i forgot to introduce myself. eh? everyone knows who i am?” she says, her eyes widening as she reads the comments. “eh, no way ~” she laughs, her nose crinkling before shaking her head. “i’ll introduce myself anyways for the new ones just joining us!” juhee remarks as she watches the viewer count rise.

“hello guys ~” her hand does and﹡roma’s signature greeting hand motion, fingers spread apart as she waves her hands, “twinkling and sparkling! hello ~ i’m and﹡roma’s new sky, as far as the eye can see, sora -- nice to meet everyone !”

“okay, now we’ve got that out of the way -- i’m here today to ..” she imitates a drum noise while fiddling her fingers along her lap. “dugu-dugu-dugu ~” 

“show off a few of my favorite songs from this summer. now that autumn is coming, i think it’s nice to look back at some of the songs that kept me company this summer!” 

“first! of course, i can’t not promote our newest song, high heels. if you haven’t listened to it yet -- here you go! did you see our music video? wasn’t it so cute? it was my first time practicing with heels -- i tried dancing with them before but i’m still kind of not used to it.”

she reads the comments before proceeding, “ah? any wishes for this comeback?” she hums as she thinks, “mm -- would wishing for a first win be too ambitious? i think everyone wants a first win but we’ve been working really hard for this comeback so i hope we can get a special reward such as a first win for all our efforts!”

her hand shows off her phone, the last of and﹡roma’s album drowned in the background so that juhee could play the songs from her phone. “now you’ve probably heard this song before -- luxe sunbaenim’s ‘ up & down ’ .” 

she grins proudly, “i’m not sure if many of you know this, but a few weeks ago and﹡roma did a cover of sunbae’s song and i had ashe sunbae’s lines and i was so nervous. it’s a concept we’ve never done before but i think we did it justice, though i’m nowhere near as good as ashe sunbae. i haven’t met her yet but i really hope to! she seems really cool!”

she had played a short snippet of up & down -- knowing for sure that everyone and their mothers had already heard of the song enough ( it was playing nonstop in almost every store possible since it’s release, it seemed ) -- before changing the song to a song by their brother group ( laughable considering juhee had yet to meet any of their members ), per_se.

“and next is per_se sunbaenim’s new song, ‘ o sole mio ’ , since it released it’s been stuck in my head for ages. even while we were preparing for ‘ high heels ’ i was playing it -- maybe i’ll do a cover of the choreography. it is really nice. i really like the move they do with their arms.” she reenacts the move while the song plays with a laugh. her eyes focus on the comments, letting the song play in the background. “i’m glad you guys enjoy the song too. it was a nice sound for the summer, right?”

“there’s also this american artist i’ve been listening to a lot these days, his name is giveon -- one of the new songs off his new album is my favorite. it’s called ‘ this ain’t love ’. please listen to him, his voice is really nice!”

“also samuel seo sunbae’s song ‘ soon ’ is so nice, when i go to yoga on my off days i always have this playing in the background.” she quickly changes the song after giveon’s finishes to sameul’s -- cutting out the song that had almost started in between. “it has this nice almost dance-like vibe but it’s also still nice for easy listening.”

as soon finishes, juhee pauses the next song so she can introduce it properly. “this one isn’t a new song but i just found it and i love it. i’ve never been in love before but this song kind of ... makes me wish i have.” her voice softens slightly as her gaze drops to her phone, it’s for a moment before she re-focuses her stare to the screen in front of her. she laughs at the comments that suddenly come flying. it has her sheepish at the sudden words of love coming from the fans. it’s all so new -- being told she’s loved, especially from people she hardly knew. “it’s called ‘ love ’ and from the lyrics i can understand it’s about a friend falling in love with their friend and wanting to stop pretending that their relationship is ‘ just friends ’ -- does anyone relate to it? ah, a lot of you? aw ~ i wish i could give you all hugs.”

“last but not least -- i also found this producer, called dept, and i really like his songs. they’re more rnb than pop but i think their sound makes for nice winding down music. i think it’s the best way to end the v-live, too. so let’s listen to this song well before we say goodbye ~”

her fingers press play, “it’s called ‘ summer again ’.”

juhee let’s the last song play in the background as she reads the comments, one of them catches her eye and she has a laugh -- “ah, you caught me. they’re not really upbeat or ‘summery’ -- my music taste is kind of moody, i think? at least that’s what my friends tell me.”

it’s the smallest part of juhee that she was willing to share with her fans -- even if most of the rest that she shares is unlike the real her. the smiles she shows, and the upbeat attitude she dons for shows is much unlike her actual persona but she keeps them on -- hoping that just an ounce of this smile could become real for her.

for juhee, she wished she was just the slightest bit more upbeat.

unfortunately, her music tastes failed to portray this wish.

“ah, we’re almost home so i guess this is the end for us guys ~” she waves, shooting finger hearts to the camera as she reaches out to stop the recording. “until next time!”

the second iqs episode is just gahyeon and chanyeol, which she has to admit is sort of terrifying. after all, gahyeon has to admit that she used minhee as a crutch the previous week – it was much easier to do that being the newest host, after all. but after minhee had informed gahyeon that she would not be present for this episode, she was determined to learn everything she could as quickly as possible. gahyeon would be a liar if she said she hadn’t gone back to watch previous episodes, as well as other variety shows online, to try and get some general tips and tricks to be a better host. after all, while chanyeol would still be there, gahyeon and minhee were the two who played the games with the guests and their jobs weren’t quite the same. despite this, chanyeol still seemed to step more into minhee’s role – after all, it couldn’t be a 2 vs 1 situation – and it was surprisingly easy to work without minhee. of course, gahyeon would prefer for the elder to be there – but still.

gahyeon thinks that this episode is a little easier because it’s with none other than the luxe girls. granted, gahyeon wouldn’t say she’s the closest with either girl considering cheri debuted before gahyeon had even been signed and ashe had been a sphere trainee before replacing xayah as luxe’s new main rapper when xayah had left. however, gahyeon ( understandably ) had a soft spot for any main rapper out there, so maybe she looked up to ashe just a little bit. but gahyeon had seen and met both in passing considering they were now all under the same company, so it was almost easier to interact with them. the girls were sweet, and gahyeon enjoyed playing games with them – which she was already figuring was going to be a common occurrence with all their guests.

once the camera stops rolling, gahyeon easily thanks the luxe girls for joining them and breathes out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. overall, she felt like she was doing well, and that she was interacting well with the guests. there was nowhere she could go but up from here, after all – from no skill to at least some skill, which she was sure that she would be able to do alongside minhee and chanyeol.

fingers tap on the surface of the table almost impatiently, drumming a messy rhythm as his other hand has his cheek cupped in it, gaze glued to the huge window by his side. he’s watching the people hurrying past in the light drizzle to keep himself from checking his phone yet again. did so about five times in the past three minutes -- taking a peek of the time, waiting for a text message to come in to inform him about why she’s taking so long.

it’s interesting that euijin even agreed to meet up when he wrote her two hours ago in an embarrassingly weak moment of nostalgia and remembering everything about her.

she’s told him that she’ll be at the coffee shop in fifteen minutes and that was almost an hour ago despite it being close to the location of her dorm, has seungwoo expecting that she’ll just cancel on him. that she’ll just stand him up like she’s done so many times before. ( it’s stupid that he tries over and over again, isn’t it? but he keeps telling himself that he’s just trying to maintain an important friendship. or whatever they are. ) he sighs and frowns, giving in and reaching for his cellphone when someone slides into the booth, in the seat across him. despite her disguise, seungwoo recognizes her immediately. 

“oh,” he says and he doesn’t want to show his surprise so there’s the hint of a smirk on his lips as they curl up a little, “how kind of you to actually show up, didn’t think you would. did you have to climb out of the window to get out of there?” tilting his head lightly to the side, seungwoo takes a look at her. “you want something to drink?”

before the start of and*roma’s schedules really picked up, sunmi figured it would be in her best interest to pay her family a visit. she had just finished recording for iqs yesterday. tomorrow would be another recording although this time it’s for return to superman. it’s a cute show. maybe she should convince her dad to try out for it. he looks good on television. although he’s not a celebrity. that would be his only hindrance at getting it.

although it’s a cute thought in her mind.

euijin’s birthday is coming up soon. because of her schedules she can’t really make it. she’ll be too tired to. she wanted to make it up to her younger sister but she knows she won’t have free time until over a month later. the timing is horrible. her dad doesn’t like having family get togethers if family is missing. that includes birthdays. though the fortunate part of this is that sunmi is going to have some free time for the twin’s fourth birthday. sometimes it sounds her to think that her dad is forty with young kids. he’s going to be retired by the time they’re sunmi’s age.

she’s greeted at the door by the kid’s yells. jenny and james both run up to her for hugs. she covers them both in kisses. her mom had a day off and her dad was at work. she greets her step mother with a hug and a kiss. the twins waddled after them both, determined to get all of their older sister’s attention. she places jenny in her lap. james is content sitting on the table next to where sunmi and jenny sat.

“your father found something interesting yesterday,” her step mom says. she has a twinkle in her eye. sunmi remembers it from her childhood. whenever she wanted to give seungie something special despite not having much money she had the same look. sunmi and seungdong would have the best days whenever seungdong’s mom had that look in her eye. they were precious memories.

“what did he find?” sunmi asks. she tried to feign disinterest by focusing on braiding jenny’s long hair. it was silky and dark. healthy. much like sunmi’s was when she was little. in fact, jenny somehow looks like euijin too despite the fact that euijin and jenny had no blood relation. maybe sunmi was just projecting because she missed out on growing up with euijin.

her step mother smiled, handing over a small stack of photos. when she was finished with jenny’s hair she grabbed them. these were just photos of her and euijin. some of them were ones that charles took. sunmi had asked him to find some because sunmi was still crafting euijin’s present. sunmi furrowed her brows. “that’s what i asked him to do. you’re saying it as if he found something cool.” her mother laughed as if she knew a secret. sunmi didn’t get it.

she got into her car, texting her manager to let him know she was on her way back to the dorms earlier than intended. he told her to be safe. before pulling off, she went through the photos her father had found. some of them he had got them printed. she could tell because they’re newer compared to the other photos. there are some photos as old as a few years ago, when sunmi had first brought euijin home. it was of them smiling and laughing. family dinners, parties and holidays since then.

and then she saw it.

this photo wasn’t as big as the others and it’s definitely older. a lot older. sunmi recognised herself from when she was a baby in the photo. her mom was in this photo too -- her actual mother. her father sat next to her on the hospital bed. sunmi couldn’t be older than two in this photo. she’s tip toeing to look at her mother. her mother was holding a baby. sunmi has no recollection of this photo or this time. she didn’t even need to look at the back of the photo for the inscription. she knew what this was.

tears sprung to her eyes immediately. she couldn’t believe it. how has she never seen this? of all the things her mother kept. she swore they already saw it all. or at least, sunmi assumed so. she kept the photo close to her heart for a moment. it was so nice to see.

after taking a moment she texted her manager that she was taking a quick stop at the photo centre to do something. she had plans for a new background photo for her phone.

200719 |  when he’d asked luna to coordinate some studio time in seocho together, jinwook knew it might be a long session. he comes prepared after schedules, freshly showered, with a giant insulated tumbler of iced tea. “i thought it would be more fun to write together,” he’s saying a few minutes into the evening, sipping from a straw, “since i want to mess around with some ideas that are less...” he gestures vaguely. “typical? i know i haven’t gotten to write a lot for convex yet, but they’re giving me a solo on the comeback album. one of my songs, but it feels sort of...”

“well, i don’t know.” jinwook pauses and sets down his drink. on second thought, he gives it a long push away from the expensive desktop monitors. “wait, can you tell me if i’m being stupid or not?” an easy set-up for most of his conversations with luna. this is something he hasn’t been able to broach with any of his members, though, despite their overwhelming support of his work, and jinwook has been overthinking it all month to the point that he really does need to be told straightforwardly. although once he’s asked, he doesn’t even know where to start. “i don’t want to seem ungrateful,” is his main concern. “i know it’s a big deal, with so many members, and i’m still happy with the song, i think it works as a solo, it’s just...”

this isn’t his most eloquent moment. “between this and pinwheel and campfire,” he says finally, “i don’t want to start putting myself in a box, you know?” it’s almost an unusual sentiment to express, from someone who has tried so hard, since the beginning, to hone his emotive strengths as a vocalist. now that it’s said out loud, he wonders if it sounds hypocritical. jinwook taps to wake his phone on the table and sighs. “sorry, you can at least listen to it first.” in his music files, the bare-bones simple demo is pinned to the top for easy access. he opens the player and pushes his phone over to luna. “this one is like two years old,” he clarifies, “but the structure hasn’t changed much.”

crazy enough, juhee is adjusting well to idol life. more so because outside of performing, her practice schedule has yet to throw her through a loop.

while most of her unnies dislike their upcoming comeback title track, juhee is more than thrilled at the sound. she also is excited to be wearing heels for their performances since most of her usual pick of choreos never really call for heels as the performance attire.

she, more or less, is enjoying her time being a newly-debuted artist and getting to know the rest of her members, slowly, and trying to not be so closed-in with them.

when she learned that she was going to take on most of @rkashe​ sunbae’s lines for their rendition of ‘up & down’, juhee was pleasantly surprised. while it did bring an onslaught of anxiety and fright, another part of her was really touched that nova sought to give her such a responsibility ( especially when compared to her actual lines on and﹡roma’s album, she doesn’t really do much vocally ).

appearing at the summer festival hosted by kbs was fun, and she enjoyed watching the special performances done by her seniors. while performing a song so different than and﹡roma’s current concept made her feel awkward during practice, juhee found herself really feeling in-tune to the rap style as they performed ‘up & down’.

while she’s finally off her idol ‘ probationary period ’, juhee seldom goes out unless it’s to grab snacks with @rkmiya​​ at the local mart by their dorm.

finally mustered up the courage to confess her feelings, concerns, fears ( all of the above ) to @rkharu​  and felt relieved to get them off her chest. she hadn’t spent time with him since april nor has she really talked to him about what happened in march except for a phone call back in june.

she’s still feeling weird about meeting her half-sister, @rkchay​, who doesn’t even know that juhee is her half-sister. for the most part, juhee has pushed it to the back of her mind, thinking that she probably won’t see the other girl again but another part of her is curious as to how she’s lived all these years under their father while juhee never had that luck. 

still is embarrassed that @rkmeiqi caught her practicing ‘up & down’ and thought she sprained something.

LIFE & PSYCHE   ◞

while the past few months have definitely left more than enough uncertainty in her heart, juhee thinks that come july -- she’s ready to tear these doubts from her subconscious and dive into a new mindset.

not to say that she won’t still have her reservations when it comes to love, but she’s willing to put her trust in jaehyun more than she fears her doubts. 

it also helped that seeing the amount of lines for their cover of luxe’s newest song gave her an ample ego boost in an otherwise self-realization of her role in her group. 

in her free time, she spent much of july learning viral tik tok dances and showing them off to any member that came into a 5 foot vicinity of her.

since the beginning of the month when they received their schedules for april, seungah had felt like she had seen everyone except euijin. which was weird considering she was her roommate. it was something that made her feel even more weird when time passed and she was becoming more and more aware that she hadn’t seen the other much. 

though, as the month began to close and their recording dates for the songs began to near, she felt like it’d be nice to find a way to check up on the other. ( no matter how maternal that sounded -- at this point seungah had just given up and accepted the fact that she was becoming more and more motherly the more she worried about the other girls under her care ) she’s lucky, on one of the days that she wasn’t doing preparations for the producers, she was able to make time to seek euijin out; finding the younger girl in one of her favorite places in the dorm. ( though it wasn’t too hard -- the dorm wasn’t that big for any of them to hide from one another )

“hey there, miss songwriter ~” she calls out to the other. “how’s the writing going along?” she knows this is an important opportunity for euijin, and she’s in no doubt that the other has something special on her mind for the song. the song-title itself was quite frankly, weirdly sexual but maybe that was just her.

hopefully it wouldn’t be that bad.
