The Spirits and Such Patisserie: Part 3
PART 1 IS HERE
PART 2 IS HERE
The original comic is here: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/62284042
Newspaper captions: Seasoning City News Paranormal Activity? Self Proclaimed Psychic Rei ---- cuts off
Ekubo: You sure about closing that store?
Reigen: I feel like this place suits me better.
Ekubo: You say that, but you can’t deny that the patisserie made a lot of money.
Ekubo: If possible, don’t you want to continue that business?
Reigen: Give it a rest
-Door Opens-
Reigen: Welcome! eh?
Reigen: Well that’s unusual… why are you here? If you’re looking for Mob, he’s still at his club right now.
Ritsu: I know
Reigen: ...? Then did you leave something here?
Reigen: Wait... what do you have there? Is....Is that chocolate?
Reigen: You just want to rub it in don’t you? You here to show me what actual acceptance looks like yeah?! Caption: What is with him?
Reigen: Ekubo.....Someday I’ll be just like that spirit from the other day.
Ekubo: ...You
Ekubo: You didn’t get anything at all? Not even a small gesture of a gift? (A non-romantic small gift to show that people care.)
Reigen: No! Stop hurting me!!
Ritsu: Mr. Reigen
Reigen: What? Kid, if you’re here to gloat, why don’t you just go? There’s no need for this insult to injury.
Ritsu: This isnt something I received.
Reigen: Eh?
Ritsu: I just feel that if you died without ever receiving anything.... any gift to show that the people around you care about you, that would be really sad.
Ritsu: ....Thank you.
(The “You” that he uses here is very respectful and not something he’s ever used before to refer to Reigen. It’s an acknowledgement of “Hey, you’re older and wiser and not terrible.”) Ekubo: Be that as it may, Reigen
Ekubo: Congrats. Now you’re not going to become an evil spirit.
Reigen: What are you talking about eh?
Reigen: And what’s this?
Ekubo: Probably Chocolate
Reigen: Eh? Really? Is this a joke? Is it really chocolate? Why would he give it to me?
Ekubo: It’s because of that thing yesterday
Reigen: I wish he’d said something
(See note about Giri Chocolate in Part 2)
-The Next Day-
Reigen: Oi! Ritsu!
Ritsu: I got your text. Did you need something from me?
Reigen gives him a gift
Ritsu: What’s this?
Reigen: It’s a return gift for the chocolate you gave me yesterday
Ritsu: Well, you didn’t have to
Reigen: Ah it’s fine. This is just how gift exchanges work.
Ritsu: Can I open it?
Reigen: Of course
Reigen: At first I wasn’t sure what to give you. I thought about it really hard and even asked Mob for advice.
Ritsu: You asked my brother?
Ritsu thinks: You know.... maybe he’s not so......
Reigen: But! Then I decided that this would be something you’d really appreciate.
-Ritsu feels a little nervous-
Tofu?
Ritsu: ..................
Reigen: Well, I heard you like tofu so....It comes packaged in shredded wood fiber.
I got it this morning, It’s freshly made. Ritsu: YOU ARE SO DISSAPPOINTING!!
Reigen: What why? You dont like tofu?
Ritsu: I DO like tofu but that’s not the point!
Ritsu wanted to shout No! You’ve got it backwards at the top of his lungs.
>>This is somewhat of a cultural inside joke. In Japan, when someone gets out of prison it's typical for them to receive gifts of tofu. Tofu is a very bland, and a palate-cleansing food. So it represents getting rid of bad impressions and starting off on the clean slate. Not eating the tofu is bad luck because it means you'll return to your old ways. But he's not saying "hey let's put our differences aside and start over", because it's actually a directional gift. So because he's giving it TO Ritsu, what he's really saying is "Hey you were an asshat before, but I forgive you. Let's start afresh from now on, cleanse your palate and your soul. I'm willing to overlook how much you hated and disrespected me in the past, to forgive and forget." Which honestly is just like the glorious douchebag that he is. So of course Ritsu is angry, and Reigen plays it off like "hey what you don't like tofu?"<<
Artist’s Comment: I wanted to draw something with a Valentines day feel. Here’s a comic in which the Spirits and such office runs a pastry shop in response to a request to exorcise spirits.
After I finished, I realized that it became a story of an adult who is not accustomed to being cared about and a child who is not accustomed to being protected. I like Reigen, the patron saint of middle school students.

He was in his second year of university when he met Reigen (ReiMob, same age AU)
One Semester
Read on Ao3
Mob wouldn't really describe himself as insecure. Or at least not anymore.
He remembers his middle school years and how he'd always stutter and choke on his thoughts and words, especially anything regarding his childhood sweetheart Tsubomi. But there were many events in his short esper life that had helped him grow and before he knew it, he'd graduated high school and finally started university, and all of those insecurities had stayed in his past. Of course, that didn't mean he wasn't insecure sometimes even as an adult. Sometimes, when his new friends would invite him out, he'd stand in front of his bedroom mirror and ponder what to wear, unsure if he should put more effort into his looks. At other times, when, as Ekubo so kindly assured him he was being hit on he'd feel a flush on his face, confused as to why this could be true, and he'd once more trip over his words, but it was nothing compared to how he felt now
He was in his second year of university when he met Reigen
Normally, their classes wouldn't overlap since Reigen was a senior and in the business department, and Mob was still taking beginner classes as an undecided major, but they'd somehow picked the same elective course, and, Reigen with his affability, had pretty much charmed everyone. Especially Mob
So much that during their first month of classes together, Mob was sure he'd never been more embarrassed. His being an esper wasn't exactly a secret and he'd never particularly enjoyed showing off, especially after Tsubomi had lost interest in his powers, so he had kind of panicked when he'd lost a bit of control and made all the desks in the room float. Not even Ekubo's voice had been able to penetrate the haze he'd apparently been in. It was Reigen's exclamation that had brought him back to Earth, and with him, the desks as well, all of them falling with roaring thuds. Luckily nobody had been hurt, but Mob had been so sick, he'd missed the rest of his classes and even decided to skip the next day
He remembers Ritsu at his door trying to coax him out
Ekubo was the one who managed to get Mob back to class, that business kid, the one you like, he wants to see you
He really didn't want to, but he was also curious. His heart was racing, not just from the nervousness of seeing the guy he was currently crushing on (he remembers Ekubo's shocked face when Mob blushed during their introduction on their first day. He'd gone over to him and nearly screamed, Are you serious?! This one?!), but from the uncertainty of their conversation. What did Reigen want to tell him? Why did he want to see him? Was he mad? Upset? He was in business, Mob wasn't sure what career path, but perhaps he...Mob felt something get stuck in his throat...wanted to s-sue him? Damages? He vaguely remembers something similar happening when he was younger
Trying to figure out the reason was tougher than a test question with the "all or none of the above" option. Ekubo just picked his nose, claiming he didn't know either. He'd just heard the kid asking about Mob, but no he didn't seem upset
Mob had somehow sat through his classes, all of them, even as he felt a penetrating gaze at his back. After his classes, he'd walked to the quad and sat at a bench by the library entrance, waiting
"Mob!" he heard his name called out and when he looked up, there he was
Mob hadn't known Reigen for long, but the few times he'd seen him, Reigen was always wearing a suit. He'd never understood adults who wore them. They seemed constricting and stuffy, but the way Reigen looked in his suits somehow fit. The suits also made him look a bit older, more precise, and when he spoke, it seemed to give him more authority. People always listened to him, enraptured, not just by his voice but his body language, the flow of his hands, his confident stare
By then, perhaps because it was near the end of the day, the sun was nearly setting, Reigen had changed. He wasn't wearing a suit. Instead, he wore a white t-shirt and some grey sweatpants, a pair of sneakers on his feet. His hair was also slightly messy and Mob wasn't sure which Reigen he liked best, this one that looked softer and his rightful age, or the suited and more mature one
He barely registered Ekubo's, ugh, I'm heading home
"Hey," Reigen greeted him and Mob only nodded, then reminded himself that this was his chance to properly speak with him!
"H-Hi," he stuttered and felt his cheeks flush. Reigen only grinned
"I'm glad you came back to class. I thought maybe you'd drop the course. You seemed kind of...well, not okay that day when you left." There was an unspoken question in the air and Mob felt his body heat up remembering what happened. He swallowed the lump in his throat
"I'm o-okay," he assured, "I don't normally..." he made vague movements with his hands, "I was just d-distracted. It won't..." he took a deep breath to calm himself, "It won't happen again."
Reigen seemed to deflate a bit, "Wait, seriously? But that was so cool!"
Mob felt his heart skip a beat but he stayed firm, "I could have hurt someone."
Reigen frowned slightly, not upset, more so thoughtfully. He angled his hips for a moment, his hand on his chin, and then straightened out with a smile, "Hey, I know! Why don't you practice your powers with me!"
Mob could feel this was a bad idea, but the way Reigen's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm and knowing that they'd be interacting more if he said yes...
"O-okay," was his mumbled reply
----
After that, the two of them saw each other more frequently "to train" Mob's esper powers. He actually had stopped using his powers in middle school, preferring to hone his body and mind (or at least attempt to), which is probably why he struggled with some of the tasks Reigen gave him. Or perhaps it was because it was Reigen talking to him, smiling at him, touching his arm, throwing his arm around his shoulder, taking him out to eat, that had Mob at his limits. But if anything good came out of this, and Mob could list a few things, it was that Mob got used to Reigen. He still felt himself get nervous around the confident man, but at least he could speak without stuttering
The activities that Reigen came up with were usually childish and easy (like the time Reigen had Mob levitate some desks while he played loud music and sang along. He remembers Ekubo screaming about his ears and ok, Mob had to admit that Reigen couldn't hold a tune but he'd found it cute so while his ears did hurt for a bit, it was worth it. Or the time Reigen tried to tickle him while he concentrated on making water bubbles, except he wasn't ticklish. Mob would have counted this as a victory but then Ekubo went ahead and loudly exclaimed, careful, he's going to put his hands into your pants and Reigen's hands were a bit close to the edge of his pants and his concentration completely unbalanced and the water bubbles splashed them both. Ekubo couldn't stop laughing at how red Mob had gotten), so instead of training, Mob would often feel like they were just...hanging out
Ekubo would just roll his eyes, Shigeo, sometimes I wonder how you're twenty, you're so naive
He didn't really understand what Ekubo was trying to tell him but he knew these feelings for Reigen weren't "naive" or at least not always. He remembered the time Reigen, so perceptive, had noticed that Mob often "spaced out". Reigen had been slurping on some noodles, the broth getting all over his face and some, Mob noticed, sprinkling onto the table they sat at. "Not sure what's going on, but it's like, you're going to think I'm crazy, but it seems like you're listening to someone talk to you."
And Mob had confessed that that was exactly what he'd been doing. Reigen nearly choked from the excitement on his face, "Ghosts are real?! Can I talk to him?"
Ekubo hadn't liked the idea. For some reason, he'd never particularly liked Reigen and Mob had yet to figure out why, If he can't see me, he can't see me. Probably doesn't have even a spark of power. Mob had relayed the message and Reigen had just shrugged. He'd seemed nonchalant about the topic, but Mob, after spending so many evenings with him, had noticed the slight droop of his frame
After eating, the two decided to walk back to the dorms, but right before parting, Mob had taken Reigen's hand. Reigen had just looked at him curiously and Mob hoped and prayed his hands wouldn't suddenly start sweating too much, "I have an idea."
Mob pushed some of his own power into Reigen. He wasn't sure if it would work, but it was because of his own power that Ritsu's had manifested. Perhaps Ekubo was right and Reigen didn't have any abilities, but perhaps he did. Or perhaps he could temporarily share his own, just a tiny bit
Reigen's eyes grew wide as he felt Mob's esper powers flow into him and he couldn't help the grin and exclamation that escaped his lips, "He's a green blob! Can I touch him?"
Without waiting for a response or releasing Mob's hand, Reigen reached out towards Ekubo, who was Not Amused, "Hey! Hands off kid!" he floated behind Mob, "Shigeo, keep him away or I'll possess him!"
"Shigeo?" Reigen tilted his head, "He calls you by your first name?"
Mob felt his hand warm at the sound of his name coming from Reigen. He knew Reigen wasn't technically calling him but just hearing his name coming from his crush...he felt the butterflies again. Butterflies that quickly turned into a burning sensation as he imagined Reigen calling him Shigeo in a different context. He pulled his hand away and wiped them on his pants, having felt them start to sweat and become clammy. His face was red, he could feel it, but could also feel Ekubo's stare, Reigen's stare...it was too much and he excused himself. It was late, he had to go to bed, they had class the next morning
----
Sharing his power with Reigen was experimental. He hadn't ever done that before and he wasn't sure what the consequences would be. In the end, Reigen develops the ability to see Ekubo without Mob's help. There aren't any other spirits in the area so they can't really test out if perhaps Reigen can see or sense others. They decide that can be an experiment for another day. Instead, Reigen tries to befriend Ekubo, which doesn't exactly turn out well, but the two of them are civil. Mob is glad since Ekubo is his friend and Reigen, well, he likes Reigen
They become busier with school work as the semester starts coming to an end. All the teachers have surely conspired and Mob has too many final projects to go out with Reigen like they used to. This also means Reigen is busier since he's also taking his business core classes.
On the night of their last class, Reigen sends him a text, meet me at the quad
Mob checks the time, it's almost midnight, but he doesn't hesitate to put on a hoodie, slip on the closest pair of jeans, and head out. The moon is bright as he walks the block to the quad and a few people walk past him, taking a night stroll or heading home after a night of last-minute submissions. He doesn't pay much attention to them and when he finally reaches the quad, he sees a figure sitting on the ground, looking up at the sky. Reigen is wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants. There's a curious design on the shirt that reminds Mob of Ekubo and he wonders if maybe Reigen bought it because of that. He smiles
"Reigen," he calls out, announcing his presence. Reigen leans back, tilting his head and smiles, patting the space beside him. Mob sits down, listens to the night creatures and the sound of the few cars passing by the school, the engines quiet and almost soothing. A few voices reach them but they are far enough away where the words don't register. It's a peaceful night
There is a sense of dread building in Mob's stomach. They only really started to hang out when they started taking this class, when Mob showed his powers, and while he now had Reigen's contact information, a part of him wondered if this was the end. Maybe Reigen wouldn't want to hang out with him anymore.
Mob wasn't usually this pessimistic but Ekubo had been kind enough to remind him that Reigen, if anything, was only interested in his powers, And you already showed him all you can do. He's probably gotten bored. For a moment, Mob wishes he had used his powers when he was younger, done what Ritsu and Ekubo had told him, but it's a thought that comes and goes. The use of his powers was something he has always been firm about and while these last few weeks have been fun and nothing has happened, Ritsu is the prime example that something can always go bad
After a while, Reigen finally speaks and Mob thinks that maybe there's sadness in his voice, "Today was the last day of classes, submissions too. Gah! I can't believe they didn't give us until the weekend, grades aren't even due until a few weeks from now."
"They do have to grade everything," he commented, not especially caring about the topic. If he had more time, there really wouldn't have been much of a difference
Reigen lets himself fall onto the ground, "I doubt they actually grade everything. There's too much!"
He's not expecting an answer and Mob doesn't really know what to say so they end up in silence again but only for a moment. Reigen turns to him, "Lay down next to me."
Mob feels himself grow warm under his sweater but does as Reigen says. They both lie on the grass and he knows and feels how close their hands are to touching. Ekubo had decided not to join them and he's glad for that. He's sure he would comment on how Mob is blushing, how loud his heart is beating, how his fingers twitch in anticipation, hoping there will be an excuse, anything, for them to close the distance (but of course, he can't really think of anything, the last time they held hands was because Reigen started running and didn't want to leave Mob behind, before that it was to check and see if Mob had started bleeding after falling, before that to forcefully hand him his payment for the ramen they had after classes, and before that-)
Reigen holds his hand. His hand is clammy and warm and soft, Is he nervous too? His heart is in his throat and ears and maybe even on his palm and he wonders if Reigen can feel it beating so quickly
"Hey Mob," he says softly, he's turned to look at Mob
Mob does the same, "Yes?" And he just stares at Mob for a moment and seems to nod to himself
"I, I don't usually eavesdrop you know," he started, "but I saw you with Ekubo the other day. I heard him saying...I heard him say I only hang out with you because of your powers." Mob feels Reigen squeeze his hand tighter, "So I decided not to see you this past week. I mean, I was also busy with school work and you were too but I was thinking too and I wanted to tell you something."
Mob can't look away and he nods, letting Reigen know he's listening, that he can continue.
Reigen takes a deep breath, "I like you!"
It's so sudden and loud that Mob freezes in place, his pulse skyrocketing, the confession echoing in his mind and he's confused as to how they went from talking about Ekubo and his powers, to suddenly being confessed to. Reigen looks down at their hands and just smiles, moves his fingers away and Mob doesn't want that. He feels like he can breathe again and he nervously grabs Reigen's retreating hand.
It's his turn now, "I-I like you!...too."
It's quiet for a moment and then Reigen laughs, his body relaxes, and he threads their fingers together, "I'm so glad! I'm so happy, can you feel it?" He's moved their hands onto his chest and Mob can feel how fast his heart is beating. Exactly like his
"Mine too," he confesses.
Reigen grins at him, leaves their hands on his chest but rearranges them so that it's more comfortable, "This is the best day," he all but whispers. Mob only catches it because he can't look away
"You know, the first time I saw you, I thought you were so cool," Reigen confesses, "Well, you're still cool but you're also really cute."
Mob feels like he's burning up again, "The time with the desks?"
Reigen turns to him, a bit of a blush on his face, and Mob is fascinated. Reigen doesn't really blush, not even when he gets nervous (not that he gets nervous often, he's very confident and knowledgeable), "Well, about that...actually, this is going to sound kind of weird but...that wasn't the first time I saw you..."
And now Mob is confused because he's pretty sure he would remember someone like Reigen
"You went to Salt Middle School, right?" he doesn't wait for Mob to answer but Mob nods, "Well, I have a friend who went there, and I went to see him. There was some event going on, I just remember a marathon, but he was faking being sick and kind of left me alone. I know, what kind of friend does that, right? Well, I was just walking around and I somehow ended up watching everyone run and then I saw you. Your knee was bleeding but you had this really determined look in your eyes, I think I heard someone say you eventually passed out but I really thought you were cool. That same friend mentioned you got into this university and I thought maybe we could be friends. Well, that was before I actually saw you."
He's grins at Mob, "After I saw you I knew I wanted to date you."
"D-Date?" Mob croaks out but then he pauses, that's the logical next step, right? If they both like each other then...
"Are we boyfriends now?" he asks quietly.
Reigen sits up and turns to Mob, "That's what I forgot! Yes! Do you want to be my boyfriend Shigeo Kageyama?"
Mob smiles. He sits up too, "Yes."
----
OMAKE (One year later)
Reigen finishes up the tidying and turns to Mob who is setting up the "counter" where he will mainly be taking payments. They don't have a lot in terms of starting capital so everything they've bought or scrounged up are the bare essentials. Reigen starts, "You know, you don't have to stop going to school. You could help part-time. I don't want your scary brother to think I stole you away or something."
Mob can't help but let out a small laugh at the almost accurate accusation, "It's okay, I talked to him about it, and my family too. I didn't really know what I wanted to continue studying so this works out." He'd finally finished up his electives, leaving him no wiggle room for classes. His counselor had scheduled a meeting with him and pretty much said that if he didn't have a career path in mind, it was best to just take a break. School was expensive and Mob's grades had never been great. He'd taken a break and in that time Reigen had finished his own degree
Ekubo comes in through the window, "Shigeo, you sure you want to be part of this shady business? Spirits and Such Consultations? Sounds like a con-gig to me."
Reigen claps loudly, "Not conning people! We're really going to help some people out. Mob can exorcise spirits and if there aren't any spirits involved, we just find a solution to what's bothering them. Here are some fliers." He hands a stack to Mob and then looks at Ekubo, "Well, I guess you can't pass these around. That's fine."
Ekubo sighs, "I wouldn't even if I had a body. Shigeo, we're going to get shut down."
"Not all businesses are successful the first time! We just have to be flexible, right Mob?"
Mob nods, and pulls Reigen into a back hug. He's sure everything will work out. Reigen is passionate and hardworking, and Mob is willing to match that dedication with his own love.
There's a knock on the door and they all scramble, even Ekubo.
"Our first customer!" "I can't believe someone actually came in here!" "I'll get some tea started!"
Reigen calls out that the door is unlocked and three kids come inside. They're all wearing the same uniform, a baseball one Reigen notes, and they look so different in personality it's almost jarring, but a customer is a customer. He gestures towards the "sitting area" and as they all settle down, he begins...
"Welcome to Spirits and Such Consultation, what can we do for you guys?"
One of them looks like he's already fallen asleep and the smallest looks over to the brown-haired kid and nudges his leg.
"Well, you see..."

character: reigen arataka - mob psycho 100
song recommendation: wepa by gloria estefan
note: russia imagine next?? idk. i tried to make this imagine as un-memey as possible. it was HARD. as the song is in Spanish, the reader is implied to be Latinx.
mob admittedly knew that his master wasn’t the most sociable person the planet. no matter how much he told mob he had friends outside of him and Serizawa, he knew that was a lie.
Salt Middle School was going to have a cultural week to show off any exchange students or faculty they had on campus. the week was going to include various foods, games, and shows preformed by the exchange student. Mob knew that this would be the perfect time to have Reigen come by and enjoy the scene with Serizawa.
after not much persuasion, both of them were on board with the idea to come to a few of events. Reigen liked to think that he liked various foods and he never turned down the idea to get free food or samples.
when the two of them arrived to Salt Middle School, they noticed all the students in different stands. a lot of them were shoving down food, playing games, or doing both.
“master! Serizawa!” they heard Mob say. the two of them waved at him as they noticed food in his hands, “the body improvement club has a stand here so I have to work but all the stands our open for everyone to try out,” he explained.
they both started out at the beginning of the stands tasting French, Italian, and other ethnic food. all Reigen was missing was a nice beer in his hand however he knew that wouldn’t happen at a middle school event.
Reigen couldn’t lie to himself, with all the supernatural work he had and taking care of Shou, he hardly had anytime to actually go out and do something fun that didn’t have work intertwined with it.
once they came to a stop at another booth, he was ready to start scarfing down food before he came to look at the teacher passing it out.
Reigen came to a complete stop as soon as she passed him the small piece of bread. “hola!” she said giving him a smile, “me llamo Senora ( your name ), what you’re tasting is a Mexican bread called a concha!” Reigen slowly took another piece of it but didn’t say anything back. “we also have quesadilla Salvadorena if you’d like a taste!”
this time Reigen gave her a flustered smile before taking it, “thank you,” he muttered before taking Serizawa’s hand and running to the body improvement stand. he knew that if anyone knew who the beautiful girl he had just encountered, it would be Mob.
“MOB!” he yelled as he got to the table. everyone from the body improvement club gave Reigen a bewildered look, “come here!” he yelled. Mob felt himself getting jerked to the back of the stand.
“who is the woman in that stand with Spanish music!” he asked exasperated. Mob turned his head to see who he was talking about, “oh, that’s Senora ( your name)! she teaches Spanish for all the third years. I have her for my first class of the day,” he explained.
Reigen’s eyes sparkled from the idea of knowing that Mob knew you kind of personally, “is she married?” Serizawa and Mob gave Reigen another bewildered look, “I don’t know,” Mob responded kind of annoyed, “she doesn’t have a ring so I guess not.”
he looked to the stand again to see you still passing out a bunch of bread and candy to parents, other teachers, and students. from the looks of it, he could’ve imagined that you were probably one of the favorites in the entire middle school.
“I’m going to talk to her again!” Reigen exclaimed making Serizawa and Mob’s mouth drop in surprise. they knew their boss was confident but not THIS confident. “are you sure about that, master?” Mob asked.
Reigen shrugged, “what’s the worst that could happen?” he replied. Reigen heard Ritsu instantly start laughing, “her denying you for starts.” Reigen rolled his eyes before wiping his already nervous hands on his suit pants.
he nervously made his way to your stand again. he watched as you were dancing with a few students who had the nerve to come up with you to dance. Reigen watched as you spun a few students in circles before grabbing one of the girls hand, spinning her, and finishing off the dancing by putting her in a salsa-esque pose.
the parents and faculty who watched clapped as the students asked to continue to dance. “Master!” Reigen heard Mob say as you immediately turned your head to see Mob coming towards you.
“ah, Kageyama!” you said waving him over. Reigen stood behind Mob as the two of them walked up to the stand, “I thought you were working with your club?” you asked as you gave the familiar man another smile, “oh Kageyama, do you know him?”
Mob nodded his head rapidly, “he’s my mentor,” he told you as you shook his hand, “that’s awesome for you to bring him here! have you enjoyed the stands so far?” you asked him.
Reigen gulped down the nervous lump in his throat, “uh yeah, yours was the best though,” you let out a flustered laugh, “thank you! there’s more treats if you’d like some more!” you offered.
Mob slowly walked away from his master and his teacher as the awkward formalities were finally out of the way. “here, let me put some in a baggie! you wouldn’t mind waiting just a tiny bit, would you?” you asked him. Reigen shook his head no.
you started off with small talk with Reigen as you tried not to get the conversation awkward. you were able to tell that Reigen was more awkward than you realized but once you took out the bread from the fresh pan, his nervousness washed away as you put some on a small paper plate.
“try it! the bread is really good when it’s fresh!” you inquired before taking a piece out for yourself. both of you moaned from the deliciousness before laughing, “did you make this yourself?” he asked.
you nodded, “worked all night for tonight and tomorrows batch and I have to do it all again from scratch for wednesday and thursdays batch,” you explained.
Reigen fiddled with his fingers as he figured that this was his chance to hang out with you. the nervousness built up in the pit of his stomach as he wiped his sweaty hands on his pants again.
“I can help if you want...only if you want me too!” Reigen exclaimed as he immediately wanted to retract on his offer, “of course! tomorrow I’m only here for two hours before I get the chance to head home! you can meet me here and we can ride back to my house!”
Reigen was surprised that you took his offer but nevertheless gave you a smile, “great, I’ll meet you here tomorrow!” he replied before taking his baggie of bread and leaving.
you immediately turned around and let out a nervous breath. Reigen on the other hand walked back to Serizawa and Ritsu before giving him a smirk. “I have a date with her tomorrow!” he exclaimed making all of their mouths drop in surprise.
-
Reigen felt like the day took forever by the time he was due to go to Salt Middle School. he put on another suit but with a different colored tie and actually tried to smell decent unlike yesterday where he smelled like cigarettes and beer.
once he said hello to Mob and everyone at the body improvement club, he slowly made his way to your stand again. you were putting a few things away as your assistants made their way to your classroom to put back other things.
“ah, Reigen!” you exclaimed with a smile, “I’ll be done in just a few minutes, you can sit on a chair until we can head out!” he nodded as he watched you put stuff into boxes and sending them away with the assistants.
you grabbed your keys from your purse and gave Reigen a look, “ready?” you asked. Reigen nodded as he got up from the chair.
the two of you walked to your car and during the walk to your car, Reigen took the leap of faith to hold your hand. his face was completely red as your face went completely warm from nervousness.
it had been years since the last time the two of you were in the dating scene but you had to be honest with yourself, you thought Mob’s mentor was really cute. a bit dorky on the edges but regardless, his eyes were the thing that made you drawn in for him.
for Reigen, he had never gone on a real date with someone before and although he was nervous, something told him that he could see himself with you for the long haul.

Mob Psycho Characters Playing Minecraft (Headcanons)
Shigeo
He starts with creative mode, just to get the gist of it, before finally heading into survival but on peaceful. Then he’ll do survival easy mode and just stay on that tier forever, until he feels more confident to up his game a little higher.
Only played because Telepathy club was playing and he heard the word “Mob” and was like; “Did you call me?” and the club goes “nah fam, it Minecraft.” “what’s Minecraft.” Boom he plays.
Most likely to have a farm with a lot of cows
Has a dirt house/villager’s house on the first night and stops at just that.
Not much of a great builder
Takes forever to get diamonds
Dies often, but not too much. Just often enough for him to lose a few good iron pickaxes.
Always goes to bed once it’s night.
Most likely to have a pet cat
He just plays for fun, when he’s bored and stuff. So he doesn’t go as far as to defeating the ender dragon. He’ll travel to the nether though, just for potion making
But he does play a heck more when Teru’s around, or when the Telepathy club invites him.
He awaits for a frog update
Reigen
Jumps into survival hardcore right off the bat after watching one play through
Most likely to have a villager colony and farm
Makes a wooden house with windows and stuff on the first night with a furnace and a crafting table and a bed. The essentials. But he won’t stay in one house often and will move a lot
He can build, but he’s pretty amateur at it, he’s a fast learner though so he could easily replicate houses he see online
He’s the type of guy that never stops mining until he finds diamonds, which means he makes sure he’s at 13-11y in coordinates, has a shit ton of extra pickaxes, and stacks upon stacks of torches. Once he finds them goodies, he heads on home and repeats the cycle
He’ll defeat the ender dragon if he’s bored enough or when someone challenges/pays him to.
Same goes with The Wither
Will skip Minecraft sleep very often and will only go to bed when the phantom starts attacking
Most likely to have many many pet dogs, each one of them have name tags.
When he dies, he gets mad for a few hours, then jumps right back in. He doesn’t die all that often though, so he won’t rage quit.
He gets the minecraft books later on and you can see him reading it under his table time to time
Ritsu
He starts off with easy or normal without much knowledge on the game, probably only played because Shigeo introduced him to or Shou bugged him about it.
He’ll have a farm, but just for resources. Won't have much animals, mostly crops. He’ll live next to a village if there is one.
His first house will also be a dirt house, he’ll improve it overtime and add more levels and decorations. It can get very pretty in the end and he’ll be content to just stay and keep adding more to his house.
Not the best builder, but good enough for people to compliment it. He feels especially proud when Shigeo likes them, so he’s keen on building better and more.
He plans before he mines, calculates how many torches he needs and plans out what he’s exactly looking for, even calculates how many hunger bars each food item will fill before taking it with him.
If he gets really into the game, he’ll defeat the ender dragon, wither and head on into the nether. Not in that order though.
Will sleep if he doesn’t need to do anything
Most likely to have pets, perhaps a cat, or a dog, or a parrot. Only one though.
When he dies, he accepts it and moves on. Though, that would rarely happen.
Recently got into a forced Minecraft marriage with Shou. Is it forced if he enjoyed it though?
Teru
This bitch really just gonna jump right into survival just to flex on Shigeo.
Duh, of course he’ll have a farm. Will probably talk to the animals.
His first house is either borrowed from a villager or built with wood, but it’ll definitely not be a simple ass wooden house. It will be a nice fucking mansion, just watch him, he will. He’ll fight all the mobs he needs to just to built this mansion right off the bat, doesn’t even care if the first night he sleeps roofless.
Really good at building, because he wants to compete with Ritsu for fun and boast about it to Shigeo. Shigeo would just clap and be like “Wow so cool.”
“Thanks, made it myself, I can make one for you.” Shigeo declines, he’s an independent man, which makes Teru a mixture of disappointment and oh-my-god-you’re-adorable???
He doesn't plan when he mines, he just estimates and half ass some stuff before he struts into the cave. Sometimes he gets lost, but that’s perfectly fine.
Will defeat every mob boss and mob ever to show Shigeo he’s very powerful.
Doesn’t sleep, fights the phantom instead. Will sleep if Shigeo asks him to.
Most likely to have a pet cat, but he doesn’t mind dogs.
When he dies, he’s an angry baby and makes up some excuse as to why he’s dead. “I was distracted, didn’t see the lava. Whoops I guess ha ha no big deal.” But it is a big deal, he lost his diamonds, he wants to give it to his boyfriend but he cannot. Because he died.
Has yet to marry Shigeo in Minecraft.
Shou
Plays because he is a gamer. Survival hardcore ftw. He only plays multiplayer with Ritsu these days, never single player because he has been playing Minecraft his whole childhood and it gets boring on his own.
What’s a fucking farm? I take my food from my Minecraft husband.
Sleeps in a cave, but if Ritsu’s done with the house, he joins his bed with him and sleeps under a roof.
But he’s really really good at building, probably the best next to Serizawa. If you gave him the resources and time, he can recreate Seasoning City.
A concerning miner, jumps in with just torches and a pickaxe and somehow still survives (mostly because Ritsu always goes looking for him)
Could probably easily defeat the bosses because he has already done it so many times
Will only sleep when Ritsu is, which is almost all the time.
He owns every kind of animal.
He dies too many times because he really doesn’t mind, it makes Ritsu mad and that’s what keeps him going.
Shou was suffocated in sand.
“S H O U.” Ritsu yells at the boy next to him.
Was the one that proposed to Ritsu, invited everyone to the wedding; including Serizawa and Reigen.
Serizawa
Played while he was still hiding in his home, so he knows everything about the game when he finally played it with Reigen or the kids.
He loves farming, even the animals, it’s oddly calming to take care of something that won’t die unless he hits em.
He always collects resources first before he actually starts building a home, so he always sleeps in a cave or a villager’s house.
After years of experience, he became really good at building, he use to spend time recreating maps from other games. But he says Shou is better than him, the boy disagrees.
Yeah he mines, but he’s wary of dying when he heads into the cave, so he always brings too many torches.
Makes sure he is very very prepared before defeating bosses
Always sleeps in time, because Reigen said so. Well, because Reigen advised it, what a hypocrite am I right?
Doesn’t have pets, and even if he does, he always make them stay put at one place.
Doesn’t die all that often, almost not at all.
He pretends to not be good at the game when Reigen’s around, he mostly lets the other do what they wanna do because he loves watching his husband play.
“Serizawa! Look, I made the zombie villager back into a villager!” Reigen pointed, Serizawa smiles and nods. He already knew how to do that, but Reigen’s discovery makes it feel he discovered something new himself.
Tome
Bro this woman is so experienced to a point everyone consults her for tips.
She’s building up to find aliens in minecraft, even though they don’t exist, but she’s convinced they’re an easter egg or something.
No, she doesn’t farm. She takes em from the villagers, but she has a few beehives here and there.
She’s only mining to find diamonds as a peace offering to minecraft aliens.
One time she thought the Wither was an alien.
One time, she thought the phantom was an alien.
One time she thought the ghast was an alien.
Has died multiple times because she is careless, but she is never upset about it. Always jumps right back into the game immediately.
Parrots are her pets, because they f l y and d a n c e.
One time she thought the creepers were aliens.
She has this summoning circle made of redstone and torches in case there really are aliens.
She believes in herobrine and sometimes tries to summon him.
She thinks the aliens made the temples in minecraft.
Other Characters
Minegishi has so many bees and flowers and crops it’s almost covering the whole map.
Takenaka plays because it’s very quiet and calming
Shimazaki cannot play. He is blind.
Shou’s old resistance team use to play with him, now they sometimes play together as a trio when Shou is playing with Ritsu.
Mukai and Tsuchi play because Mukai wanted to, she has a lot of armor stands in her house.
Tsubomi does not play, she played once and didn’t enjoy it all that much, but she’s perfectly happy watching her friends play.
Emi roleplays in minecraft.
Mezato doesn’t play, but she likes watching minecraft videos on youtube, mostly the theories.
Everyone in the awakening lab plays, Kurosaki is fantastic at mining because she always knows which way are the mobs and which way are the diamonds. Asahi is an arsonist.
Minori once got invited by Shigeo to play, then she proceeded to buy minecraft and everything in it to impress him. Shigeo only congratulated her once. Contemplating buying the whole of Mojang, but she’s a good girl now so she won’t.
Hoshida plays to impress Tome. Too bad, son, she’s not into you.

Don't mind me, just thinking about this conversation I had with @limebitchesagain and just wanted to word it a bit better and fully write out our thoughts and theory for this because it haunts me every night. But fair warning this got a bit very long
TW: blood, head injuries, trauma, implied death, murder mention
A lot about the traumatic event from everyone involved is very hazy, the details are all scattered and a lot of it is up for interpretation the most concrete thing we know is that the fear Mob had experienced resulted in the first ever emergence of ???% but we don't know about the other kids, we know Ritsu survived obviously and more than likely so did Shimazaki but how considering the immense powers ???% holds? Well that’s what I’m gonna analyze! that would impact them with each other.
Considering Shimazaki got his eyes burned out what the hell happened to the punk closest to Mob? I can only imagine how traumatic it was all for all of them to witness this, and how that probably impacted Shimazaki as a kid and how he ended up growing up. Those other kids were his friends, and you can say they were delinquents and probably didn't care about each other but the way I see Shima he probably was a lot like Onigawara:
Yeah they are punks and trouble makers but they seemed to at least get along to an extent, they knew each other well enough where they kind of joked around and teased each other even though in the end they drifted apart but they were still friends.
And the last think Shimazaki saw was his friends getting hurt and possibly the first one dying by the hands this powerful being . We don't fully know what happened to them, we see Ritsu in the bandaged up after the events
But what about the other kids? There is no indication besides the implications of Shamazaki being one of the kids involved.
However let's move on from that and go onto what happened with Ritsu. There are a lot of implications that Shimazaki was the one who kicked Ritsu out of the way that day when everything went down.
You can argue and say ‘why would Shimazaki try to protect a kid he was bullying?’ but consider the line that Pre-Mob Teru said
“Of course, I have no intention of killing him”
Then look at the scene with all the delinquents in Seasoning City when Koyama was beating up Mob so bad he couldn't breath
They are horrified, some crying some closing their eyes because its too much to see and some just panicking. Yeah they are delinquents but they are kids. Kids who mostly have a normal life, Onigarawa has a nice mom he doesn't want to disappoint, all the other kids also seemed to have decent families and a good home life. They dont want to murder. They just wanted to have fun. Fun.
Where have we heard that?
That’s right. We have to remember, during the time of these events Shimazaki was a kid. A delinquent yes but a kid at his core, he probably didn't want to murder or to seriously hurt these kids, they were just punks bullying for some money yeah its a bad way of having fun but he didn't want to spill blood, especially on some elementary kids.
Again you could argue that Ritsu lied about being kicked away but let's look at the position of the bodies again shall we?
In the first picture we don't see Ritsu’s body anywhere, not even a small shoe or a glimpse, then we see Ritsu in the next frame, to the left of the rest of them (from Mob’s perspective), and coincidentally Shimazaki was also the furthest most left. If he had hypothetically kicked Ritsu out of the way, he definitely would have ended up there.
So when Mob started going berserk mode he didn't really want for this child to get hurt, not seriously. So he did what he thought was best and fastest, he kicked Ritsu out of the way and maybe it’s true that had hurt him however, keeping what ended up happening to Shimazaki in mind. It’s not that bad.
But this no doubt stuck with Shimazaki, we see that he’s only interested in having fun, we can also assume he’s probably obsessed with it considering how he makes everything into a game, he toys with his victims and likes to show off how much better and stronger he is than them. This is probably how he copes with the event.
To make an example; remember Ritsu when he got his powers? He told Mob he wasn't scared of him anymore because he could defend himself now, he had the power too. We know espers awaken either just naturally like Mob or with extreme stress/ traumatic events but what if the stress and emotions of these events determined what kind of power one gets?
It would make sense with Shimazaki’s powers. He felt weak and helpless in that moment, he wanted to leave he wanted to get away; teleportation. Afterwards he probably wished he knew this was going to happen, wished he knew that he’d get hurt and so would his friends; prediction of movements. No doubt he wished he could have stopped it all from hurting; near impenetrable.
All his abilities would line up in this situation and he probably felt just like Ritsu. He could never be hurt again, he can fight back, he is stronger, he won't allow anyone to hurt him ever again. Eventually leading him down the path to Claw.
But how would this information play in a redemption arc for Shimazaki? Now we know Shimazaki is most definitely not in good standing with Mob in the slightest, which is a drastic change. When Mob had first approached Shima he was pretty calm just telling Reigen to step away from him and casually talking to him while Shimazaki was sitting there having a mental crisis the whole time, but Mob became enraged when Shimazaki so carelessly said he was just doing this for ‘fun’. It sets him off instantly.
I doubt The Kageyama’s were able to walk away from that without some anger from the other parents involved, no doubt Ritsu and Mob blocked most of these events out cause obviously it was super traumatic and their parents probably did their best to shelter them from it in the first place, but it might be possible that subconsciously Mob remembers Shimazaki, his excuse of “just having fun”.
But this is where things get complicated. Mob, Ritsu, and Shimazaki all create a circle of trauma that can't really be solved. Shimazaki was the one who first made Mob lose control of his powers awakening ???% inside of him causing him to hurt not only the people around him but Ritsu as well however, Shimazaki did also save Ritsu’s life that day. But then in current time Shimazaki did also beat the crap out of and almost killed Ritsu yet the only reason why he went down that path was because of Mob.
The circle doesn't end, you can point fingers all you want but no matter what there will always be another thing to blame. Shimazaki shouldn't have been bullying kids, Ritsu shouldn't have tried to pick a fight with them, Mob shouldn't have burnt out Shimazaki’s eyes, etc.
Mob is forgiving yes but how well do you think he would take it? Knowing the man who beat up his brother and destroyed a city for ‘fun’ was also the man who saved his little brother that day but also awoken a terrible power in him that causes him daily repression and sadness? He is already pissed at Shimazaki in the first place but he also loves his brother dearly and if it hadn't been for him his brother no doubt would have died.
How this would get solved or how it would play out for a Shimazaki redemption arc? I have no idea, there are billions of possibilities. Would make for one kick ass fanfic though!

Anything at All
Hello! This is a Mob Psycho 100 fic that takes place shortly after Mob’s powers first go nuts and he accidentally hurts Ritsu.
Directly inspired by the incredible frootysparkycakes’ awesome papercutting:
https://frootysparkycakes.tumblr.com/post/190955762619/ive-been-having-a-lot-of-fun-with-papercutting
Mob and Ritsu were walking through the trees toward the meadow. Ritsu’s bandage had come off the day before, and today was the first time their parents were letting Ritsu out of the house without supervision. He and Mob had decided to go fly their kite in the meadow just past the river. It wasn’t too far from the house, they wouldn’t be running, and if Ritsu got dizzy there were plenty of places they could stop to rest. Mob had insisted on carrying the kite just in case.
Ritsu wasn’t dizzy anymore, though. It had only been a light concussion. His older brother had clearly felt awful about it, even though Ritsu only remembered bits and pieces. He’d teased Mob at first, asking him to bring him this or that, or read to him, or let him watch whatever he wanted on TV. But Mob didn’t think twice about agreeing every time. Ritsu stopped pretty quickly. He was afrai – he just didn’t want Mob to feel bad. So he was extra excited to go kite flying and prove he was okay.
“Are you tired, Ritsu?” Mob asked. “We can go rest if you like.”
“You’re breathing harder than I am,” Ritsu pointed out. He reached out but held back at the last second, so he only brushed his brother’s shoulder. Static cling shocked his fingertips and he jumped.
“Ah – sorry,” Mob panted.
“Rest a minute,” Ritsu said. This time he reached out and took the kite, smiling. “Go on, lean against a – oh, or sit, sitting is fine.”
Mob had practically collapsed. Ritsu had only just managed to catch his shoulder and help him down. There wasn’t any hint of static this time. Had it really been static before? Had that been the…the shadow in his brother, and this time it hadn’t stung because Ritsu was helping him?
“Ritsu?” Mob asked.
Ritsu realized he was holding the frame of the kite a little too tightly. “Are you feeling better, Nii-san?”
“Yes. But now you look a little pale.”
“I’m okay.”
“Does your head still hurt?”
“No, it stopped hurting after the first couple of days.”
“It’s okay to rest, Nii-san. You told me to rest, yourself. Here.”
Mob patted the ground next to him. Ritsu turned awkwardly but sat next to Mob, setting the kite across his lap. Mob leaned his shoulder against Ritsu’s. Ritsu couldn’t feel the static cling through their T-shirt sleeves, but he could almost feel a humming. He glanced up at Mob. Was that a slight breeze lifting his brother’s hair, or was that –
“Are you sure you’re okay, Ritsu?” Mob asked quietly.
“I’m okay.”
“But you’re so pale.”
“Well, I have been inside a lot recently,” Ritsu pointed out. “Mom wouldn’t let me play until my head was better. How about you? Have you caught your breath?”
Mob grimaced. “Sorry I’m so weak.”
“It’s really fine,” Ritsu insisted. “You’ve been staying with me the whole time, so it makes sense that walking around would be harder for you, too. At least playing with the kite means we won’t have to run around. And the field is so close, too.”
“Mm.”
“C’mon, we’re almost there, and I can carry the kite the rest of the way. Okay?” He stood up and held out a hand. Mob smiled and took it. Ritsu could definitely feel the humming now, but before he could think about it he made himself hold Mob’s hand more tightly and headed briskly through the trees.
The forest opened after a few yards. It was one of their favorite places to play, filled with long, soft grasses that brushed their knees. Hardly anyone else came here, which made it feel private and special. Ritsu took a deep breath. The scent of fresh grass, small wildflowers, and clean, windswept air filled his lungs. He’d really missed coming here.
“You hold the string and I’ll run the kite, okay?” Ritsu said.
“Yeah!”
Ritsu handed him the spool and took off with the kite, holding it as high as he could overhead. He could see the wind ruffling the treetops and changed direction to match, leaping to help the kite catch the breeze.
It came down a second after it left his hand, though. Ritsu caught it, ran back to his brother, and tried again. And again. And again. It felt great to run – amazing, even, after so many weeks of holding still. But there was a stitch in his side and the trees had stopped moving after his sixth try.
“I don’t think there’s enough wind,” Ritsu panted. “There was such a nice breeze before, though!”
“Why don’t we switch?” Mob said, holding out the spool to Ritsu.
“I mean…we can,” Ritsu said slowly, taking it. “But don’t push yourself too hard, okay, Nii-san? It’s just a kite. If you run and trip and get hurt like last time, your powers could – oh!”
He jerked as the kite tugged itself out of his grip. It swirled and whooshed around Ritsu like a dolphin. He laughed. Then the kite shot skyward, twirling its string of yellow bows like a banner.
“You didn’t have to do that,” Ritsu said, staring up at the kite in awe. He could sort of see the glittery aura of Mob’s power surrounding the bright red fabric.
Mob smiled. “But you wanted to play with it, right, Ritsu? If I can get it high enough, there’s always wind.”
The kite was already growing smaller, and the string was unspooling in Ritsu’s hands. How high was it going to go? It looked like it was the size of an airplane now!
“I think it’ll stay now,” Mob said, lowering his hand.
“Amazing,” Ritsu breathed. “That’s amazing, Nii-san! Look at how small it is!”
“It’s not as amazing as running to launch it.”
“Anyone can do that!”
“I can’t,” Mob said, glancing at Ritsu. “I wish I was more like you.”
“Nii-san, what are you talking about? You’re incredible!” He moved closer to his brother. Something in Mob’s face made a spot hurt under Ritsu’s heart. “Really, Nii-san, you’re incredible. You lifted the kite like it was nothing! And you fought off those bullies last month!”
“I’m sorry,” Mob whispered.
Ritsu shook his head. “I told you not to apologize. It was an accident, right? I wish I had powers like you, though! I could do anything, and I wouldn’t be afraid at all!”
“I am afraid, though,” Mob said, even more quietly. The air around him shimmered almost imperceptibly.
Ritsu quickly reached out and took Mob’s hand. The shimmer vanished. “Then you can talk to me,” Ritsu said firmly. “Just like when you needed to rest a few minutes ago. If you tell me what’s wrong, I’ll always try to help you, and then you’ll feel better.”
Mob smiled a little. “I do feel better. Thank you, Nii-san. I’m really glad we came out to play today.”
“Me, too.” Ritsu gave his hand a squeeze.
“Ah, it’s falling,” Mob said, looking up. Ritsu followed his gaze and saw the kite beginning to float down, the line going slack. Mob raised a finger and a glittery halo appeared around the kite. It lifted up again. The air around it shimmered. For a moment Ritsu saw the outline of something else around the kite, something that looked like his brother but wasn’t, something that would cut his head and sting his fingers.
He held Mob’s hand a little more tightly. He loved his brother. And he had such amazing powers. Powers like that could do anything.
Anything at all.

DadReigen week day 3: Sports | Lessons
AHHHHH I DONT KNOW WHAT I’M DOING BUT AT LEAST I AM DOING SOMETHING
well heres the second (third, sorry mods of the event it wasn’t my intetion to disrupt the order ) fic for dadreigenweek with some Shou feelings(or at least tried)
I hope you like it
Sports
“It’s here” Reigen said at last stopping in the green open field.
“Here?” Shou glanced around and pointed with his thumbsat the monkey bars a few meters away from them “It’s a park Reigen. What kind of second rate spirit would haunt a park?” he deadpanned.
“What do you even know about spirits?!! Stop talking and let’s get to work. I’m the specialist here and I know what I’m talking about!”
“Sure you do old man. Sure you do” said Shou knowing fully well there wasn’t any spirit here. When Reigen turned his back to keep walking Shou stuck his tongue at him but still followed him.
Truth be told Shou had nothing better to do with Ritsu and the others being at school. He had already exhausted all his options and was dying of boredom, so when Reigen had asked his help this morning with a job he was very quick to accept. Too quick actually. I
f he had known it would require this much walking he would have thought it better.
But well this is what he deserved for sneaking into the office at unholy 8 in the morning and scaring the shit outta of Reigen.
Shou chuckled at the memory of the first time when Reigen took hold of his umbrella and lounged to attack what he thought was a intruder, screaming the entire time
It made Shou realize he should tell Reigen to put better locks at the office because if thats was how he planned to defend against an attack then he had very poor chances. It had been very easy for him to block the umbrella.
Reigen just groaned when Shou said this to him the next day.
“If some people just entered through the door like any decent person, I wouldn’t have the need to defend myself “
“Where’s the fun in that?” had said Shou grinning.
Reigen suddenly stopped and waved his hand “What are you laughing at? We are wasting time. Spirits wont be exorcised by just chattering!”
Shou decided to play along
“So, what exactly are we doing here? What was so important that you had to explicitly ask me for help instead of your oh-so-helpful-goodie-two shoes Serizawa?” Shou had to stop himself from cringing, that had come out more bitter than he had intended.
If Reigen noticed he didn’t acted on it.
“Even Serizawa has his personal matters to attend. Besides it’s not like he isn’t doing his work, someone had to stay back and look after the office” he then shrugged the backpack he had brought along and started rummaging looking for something “As for what we are doing….We are going to do and old ritual of sorts known from warding off evil spirits and attracting good energies-AJA HERE IT IS”
Shou had to do a double take at what Reigen was proudly holding in his hand.
An old worn out baseball ball.
Shou knew the man was a fraud but he was starting to think he had gone nuts.
“Reigen you do realize that’s a baseball ball right? Like do you realize you are holding a toy?”
“Of course I know what it is!” he said tossing the ball at Shou who caught it reflexively “It’s the most important part of the ritual”
“Ritual?” Shou inspected the ball. As he thought it was just a simple ball. “ What kind of ritual involves a baseball ball?”
“Im telling you. It’s a very old ritual!” Reigen exclaimed offended “We pass each other the ball thus creating with our own energies a ward circle that extends and protects the whole area”
“What? Where did you get that-” Shou bursted laughing when a relizations struck him “Ritsu was right and you get all your practices from shady webpages... How old are you exactly to believe that kind of bullshit?”
“Hey! you brat, I’ll let you know this is 100% real bussines, but what would a kid like you know disrepecting adults-”
“Shut up”
Shou frowned, it had been fun at first but now it was straight up annoying.
“I’m not Mob and if you think I am as naive as him to believe everything you say is right just because you are and adult and you said so then you are wrong.”
Shou turned his back fully intent of going away but froze when Reigen spoke.
“No! wait Shou, I’m sorry! It wasn’t my intention to make you feel less just for being a kid”
“I’m not a kid” Shou huffed
“I’m sorry anyway”
Shou sighed and turned around, scrutinizing Reigen’s gaze. It seemed sincere...unlike what he had seen in most adults throughout all his life.
“What are we doing here then?”he said crossing his arms “No more lies”
Reigen sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
“For the last 2 weeks you have spent the morning at the office-I’m not saying you can’t, you are always welcomed but you just sit there waiting for Ritsu to come, or Mob or whoever gets there... It’s not good for you”
He then looked down at Shou “Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Shou nodded, he had thought of those things already but….it was stupid but he had been so focused with taking down his dad he hadn’t thought what he would do next.
“So I thought...When I was young I used to play with-err I enjoyed playing fetch”
Reigen tried to leave it there but Shou wasn’t dumb, nor liked to be treated like he was fragile “I said no more lies, if you have something to say just do it”
“I was there, when you father tried to take over the world and I saw...I bet you have never played it”
He was right.
Shou handed him back the ball “Fine, let’s play.
Reigen smiled and for the second time that day Shou felts he shouldn’t have said yes so quickly. He had of course seen people playing fetch, it wasn’t that complicated but for some reason he still stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to do.
Reigen moved some meters away and asked him if he was ready before throwing the ball which Shou caught again with no problem at all.
He returned the ball
Shou was confussed “How is this supposed to be fun?”
“Just wait and see!”
Reigen then took a few steps back before tossing the ball again. This time with too much force.
The flew past Shou to high for him to reach it so with a flick of his hands he commanded his powers to bring the ball to him.
“HEY NO POWERS THAT’S CHEATING” Reigen immediately screamed
“You were the one who threw it with too much force! How was I supposed to catch it? Running?”
“THAT´S THE POINT”
Shou was gonna make him eat his words.
With as much force as he could muster (and not powers) Shou threw the ball at him, it went above Reigen’s head but he actually ran and jumped catching the ball.
Shou pursed his lips, his competitive side taking over, when Reigen made a silly dance of victory.
The game was on.
They played until they were left panting and sweating on the ground, both their hair sticking to their foreheads and it was until then that Shou saw what else was inside the bag.
Juices pouches and sliced fruit.
Shou didn’t want to know why Reigen thought he could pass this as some spirit exorcism.

while on the topic of my slime rancher au, i remember discussing w someone in my discord server abt it n we’ve expanded it p far. the few things i remember from the discussion.
tome, teru, shou, ritsu, and mob all have youtube channels dedicated to the game. the four didn’t find out about mob’s channel until he uploaded a hide and seek video to it, and the gang went absolutely ape
mob likes to draw his own thumbnails sometimes instead of taking screenshots. ritsu recognized the art as his brother’s but assumed mob was just making some extra money by drawing for some youtubers
in mob’s videos, there was no voice over or recording of his voice. it was just text tutorials on how to do, find, or get to certain places in slime rancher. the first time he did a voice reveal was the time he uploaded the slime rancher hide and seek video
when the boys play hide and seek, mob and tome are usually the best hiders out of the 5 ranchers. teru is always found first. mob likes to hide in high up places that you’d probably need a jetpack to get to. tome likes to hide in high up places too, but she doesn’t hide there as often as mob does unless all her lower ground spots had been given away or already used.
teru usually gets caught first because he hides in the same place and in plain sight almost every round
at some point, it frustrated mob to the point where he went “TERU, YOU’VE HID THERE FOR THE PAST 6 ROUNDS”. ritsu finds teru immediately after that
other times when the gang are playing hide and seek, mob will let teru hide with him. once everyone else got caught, mob shoots a chicken towards one of them and they have no idea where it came from since their render distance is on low. tome is quick to assume it’s aliens and immediately gets distracted while ritsu and shou are looking around in a panic. they didn’t find the two that round
teru brings mob lots of gifts and even brings mob honey slimes and plorts along with their favorite fruit (mob still thinks its all in a friend sort of way)
"hey kageyama-kun! i brought you some heart beets in a totally platonic best friend sort of way :)” *proceeds to give him 50 heart beets*
“thanks hanazawa-kun. personally, i like cuberries, but i appreciate the gift :)”
mob logged in the next day to find 3 new gardens had been built and all were growing cuberries. mob still has no idea it was teru who’d left the gift.
it’s rare to see mob and teru apart from each other. they like to explore areas and collect things with each other
sometimes during ritsu or shou’s videos, in the foreground, you can hear mob and teru (flirting) talking to one another. at some point, shou and ritsu get really quiet so they can listen in on the conversation and expectedly catch a flushed teru.
tome likes to plant tar slimes in ritsu’s ranch when he’s away
“TOME, WHAT THE FUCK”
*trying not to giggle* “what”
“WHY ARE THERE TAR SLIMES IN MY RANCH-- AAAA--”
shou and ritsu are the ones with the most deaths currently in the game, mainly because they keep falling off cliffs and edges.
once shou was trying to get a screencap of the sunrise down by the docks and fell off. ritsu laughed at him and then fell off right after. shou got an absolute kick out of it, but ritsu was pissed because he had a hunter slime with him in his inventory. ritsu didn’t cheer up until shou brought him a golden plort and another hunter slime
since mob’s favorite map is the wilds, teru took mob there and attempted to confess his feelings for him.
they were supposed to be alone but ritsu and shou had been in the call for quite some time trying to stay quiet for as long as possible. while trying not to laugh up a storm at teru becoming a flustered mess in front of a very flustered mob, shou sneezes and scares the absolute shit out of teru
ritsu let his laughs rip and teru spent the next 30 minutes yelling and chasing them around
mob accepted the confession in the end and the two started a new farm with each other for when they wanted to play alone
tome joined somewhere in the middle of all the yelling and chasing and had no absolute idea what the hell was happening, but laughed at the three boys anyway
sometimes takenaka likes to join them, but he doesnt really do anything but hoard rock and hunter slimes
serizawa plays sometimes too, but rarely. seri doesn’t know much about the game (or even understand it), but he’s supportive and willing to play it with the kids anyway
teru and ritsu are constantly competing with each other, and sometimes ritsu tries to out gift teru by trying to leave as many quantum plorts as he can beside the plort machine. most of them usually end up despawning though
mob is often quiet while playing, but sometimes when he falls off cliffs or loses something, you’ll hear him go “motherfucker or “fuck” into the mic
at some point, reigen was standing outside his door when he heard mob say fuck and nearly choked to death on his water.
sometimes the group will play with each other until late in the night
“did kageyama-kun fall asleep?”
“mm. let me check” there’s a 10 second pause before ritsu comes back “yeah”
teru found it cute. the two were very quiet and careful after that, trying not to disturb mob
shou ruins that at some point though and joins the call screaming “WHAT’S UP GAMERS”. it scared mob so bad he almost hit his head on the corner of his monitor
shou likes to scare ritsu by shooting radiation slimes at him
ritsu absolutely hates it because it gets him every time

I know it's a day later, but in light of recent anime events, how about Reigen Arataka for the character thing? :D
“In light of recent events” yeah ok sure you can put it that way I guess hahahahaaaaaa…………………….. *gross sobbing* (Seriously though thank you Rosy I don’t mind it’s a “day late” XD)
What I like about them
I will hit on “deeper” stuff in the next section, but, honestly? I really just like that he’s there for Mob. He’s not always great at it, but he tries, and you can really believe that this guy cares about this kid and wants him to grow into a good person. I have ALWAYS loved his type of dynamic, and Reigen and Mob fit my (non-romantic) fictional relationship preferences to a T.
That and he’s hilarious, and the animators have way too much fun with him, and I’m not even talking about them “thirsting” over him or whatever, I just mean going overboard with the hand motions, expressions, body language, etc. XD
What I dislike about them
Oddly enough, I actually really didn’t like Reigen at first. The earliest episodes in the anime did a good job at showing him as the world at large would see him: just a fraud using a kid for his own gain. But over time we got to see more of the other sides of him, and by the end of season 1, I had completely changed my mind. Is he still a fraud that can underappreciate those around him due to having an ego built up in order to help him deal with his actual insecurities…
But I don’t dislike this about him anymore. In fact, I actually enjoy it because every character needs flaws, and, even better, these are flaws he is now actually trying to work on. So, all that to say that I’m not sure there’s anything I really dislike about him, because even the parts I disliked initially - and still don’t approve of - are things that make him a better, more rounded character. And I think that’s great.
Favourite moment
Oh gosh, this is hard because my favorite moment of the series does involve him, but in a way it’s more about Mob’s response to it so that seems like maybe I should pick something more specific to Reigen but… ah, screw it, it’s the end of episode 7 in season 2. XD
If two entire episodes counted as a “moment” I would choose s02e06 and e07, but that’s not really how this works, so of course I’m going to go with the part where Reigen asks Mob if he “knows”, and when Mob says that he’s a good person, he literally looks like he’s holding back happy/relieved tears. And it gets me. Every time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched that one scene, lol. It’s so good, man.
Runners up include:
- Telling Mob near the end of season 1 and he doesn’t have to fight, he’s the one who will suffer in the end, and it’s ok to run.
- Following that up by being freaking awesome and SLAYING those Claw dudes both psychically and verbally.
- That scene in season 2 where Mob is panicking because he doesn’t want to exorcise the ghost family and Reigen realizes this and steps in and just fakes the whole thing in order to take the pressure off of Mob without turning the clients against him.
- Reigen noticing that Mob is “fidgeting” at work, but when he realizes what he’s actually doing, he literally drops everything and is all “let’s go running right now” and puts, like, everything into helping Mob get better, like, I know this scene was just given to us in the most recent episode but I feel so blessed??
Least favourite moment
This may sound like a weird one to pick (especially with the whole “grow up already” scene in play), but my least favorite is probably when he pretends to hold a seance. I mean, it’s funny, sure, but… you know how I talked about the fact that I like his flaws now? This one very specific instance is a case where I really can’t defend him. He knows he’s not a psychic. He knows he can’t actually speak to the dead. And Mob either can’t or won’t do it as he’s sitting right there while this is going on. So… this is literally one of those times where Reigen straight up scams somebody. Not cool, man.
(As for the scene where he’s a huge jerk to Mob? I actually really like that scene because while it’s awful it really does fit his character perfectly, and he seriously needed to hear the back talk from Mob to kickstart his growth. So that’s a “love to hate it” thing, lol.)
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more
I want to see this grown man have actual friends, dang it!! Mob (and now maybe Ritsu and Hanazawa) is great, but get this guy someone his own age to talk to! I want to see what he’s like with an actual peer that he likes, not just an apprentice or a blind follower! (Dimple only kind of counts at this point, much as I love him. XD)
An interesting AU for this character
I don’t even know if this counts, but I want a Mob Psycho musical. I want a Reigen dance number, dang it. Dimple can have a villain song about wanting to lead a world wide cult. I need to see the Body Improvement Club training as a dance sequence where they sing about positive body image and loving yourself and working hard. Mob can’t dance for crap but has a surprisingly amazing singing voice, but he pretty much only sings when he’s alone. Yeah. I’ll go with that. XD
A crossover
One of these is more serious than the other. You decide.
1.) My Hero Academia - Reigen somehow manages to become a quirkless hero (despite next to no one knowing this fact) and a teacher at UA. Mob is of course in class 1-A, lol.
2.) Naruto - Reigen is the true founder of Talk no Jutsu.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)
None
Other ships?
Nope
BROTP
Reigen and Mob
NOTP
Reigen and Mob
An assortment of headcanons!
Do my thoughts on why he has an ego because he’s insecure count as a headcanon, or is that just an accepted truth?
Of course after the latest episode I am now headcanoning that Reigen starts running every day after realizing how out of shape he was and also a desire to try something that Mob is actively invested in (body improvement).
Ah, see? This was fun. Mob Psycho can be fun. When it’s not, ya know, preying on some of my worst fears, anyway. Ah yes. Good times. XD

The Psychic and The Crystal Gems Chapter 4
Sorry for the wait everyone! Here it is! The new chapter! I finally finished hehe. One quick note, something is in this chapter, I tell what it is on my AO3 account because I can’t here without spoiling what it is. So if you’re curious check it out!
Mob slowly opened his eyes and found himself staring at the beach house ceiling. Thoughts of the day before floated through his head. His thoughts were interrupted as he heard shuffling from his side. Glancing over, he noticed Steven looking down at him in concern. Blinking in his direction, Mob finally opened his mouth to speak.
"Yes Steven-san?" Mob asked the curly haired boy. His question earned him a worried look.
"Are you okay Mob? I know Amethyst and Pearl didn't see it, but I saw Garnet lead you back in here yesterday, and you seemed really sad. Would you like to talk about it?" Steven asked Mob who just stared back at him. The events following his talk with the entity yesterday played through his head again. Garnet had comforted him as he silently cried over his isolation from his family and friends. After he finished, Garnet had gently took his hand and lead him back to the temple.
While they walked, both had remained silent. Mob had thought about everyone that he was separated from thanks to being brought to this universe by the entity. Garnet...well he was not sure what she was thinking about, but he was happy that she did not question him about the portal that he was thrown out of.
Now that he thought about it though, how did Garnet know that he would be thrown out of the portal at that exact moment? As well as where he would be? Maybe it was a power she had as a gem person? He still was not sure about everything the three women could do.
Feeling a finger poke his cheek caused Mob to snap back to his senses and realize that he had never responded to Steven who looked even more worried about him than before. Deciding to ponder Garnet's powers at a later day, Mob looked back at Steven.
"I am sorry Steven-san. I would not like to talk about it right now. I'll tell you later though," Mob nodded back at Steven who pouted in response, but ultimately respected Mob's wishes and decided to drop his concerns for now.
Mob let out a small yawn as he sat up on the couch. The extent of yesterday's events finally hitting him. Feeling movement on the couch, he looked over and saw that Steven had sat down next to him. "So what are you doing today, Mob?" Steven asked the young psychic. Mob brought his hand up to his chin and began thinking about it.
Usually, he would just go to school, do exercises with the Body Improvement Club, and then head home unless Reigen needed him or he just wanted to spend time at the office. Now though...he wasn't sure. He had a routine back home that he could follow every day (excluding unexpected events, e.g., meeting Dimple, fighting Koyama, saving Ritsu from Claw, etc). In this world though, he did not have a set routine to go by...and it kind of concerned him now that he actually thought about it.
"..." Mob stared down at the floor while Steven continued to look at him. After another minute of silence from Mob, Steven finally decided to speak up.
"Mob...are you okay? You're starting to scare me," Steven questioned Mob while slightly shaking his shoulder to try and bring him back to his senses.
Feeling his shoulder being shook, Mob finally looked back up and saw Steven looked at him with a worried face again. Bringing his hand up, he gently pushed Steven's hand off and stood up onto his feet. "I'm not sure...I'm going to go and find out though," he quietly stated before bowing and walking out of the beach house while leaving a worried Steven behind. As Steven moved to go after him, he felt a hand land on his shoulder. Looking back, he spotted a stoic-looking Garnet standing there.
"Let him be for now Steven. While I am still not sure how he arrived in Beach City, he is clearly going through a lot right now. He needs a little time to himself to think about his place in the world. I have a feeling that Shigeo is not used to so much change. I am sure that he will feel better when he returns," Garnet explained to Steven who looked back in the direction Mob walked off in. Gently giving his shoulder a squeeze, Garnet headed back to her room while Steven decided to go back upstairs and play some video games. Garnet made sense after all. While Mob did seem different from other people, he was still human. He needed to try and figure out his problems, and if he needed help. He had friends here.
Mob
"Fight on. Fight on. Fight on," Mob chanted as he lightly jogged through Beach City and towards the woods on the outer edge of town. The entire time that he ran, his mind continued to return to his thoughts from earlier. He was in a new place for who knows how long, and the only part of his old routine that he could still do was his club exercises. He could not do them all day. He needed a new set schedule, right?
"Fight on. Fight on," Mob continued as he jogged pass a girl who looked to be around Steven's age. Looking back up so that he would not trip, he saw the forest. One reason he was heading there was so he could have a quiet, lonely place to think about his situation. The other...
The entire forest seemed to glow for a moment in Mob's perspective before vanishing. "Fight on," Mob let out one final chant before he jogged the rest of the way silently. It seemed the entity was not lying after all. He did not sense anything from the forest when he first arrived in this world...but now...
"Oh hello Mob," he heard as he was jogging. Looking away from the forest at the sound of his name, he glanced over and saw the girl from yesterday jogging next to him while holding a pizza box.
Looking at her for a moment, Mob finally recalled her as he snapped his fingers. "Oh, Pizza-san, hello," Mob greeted her in return which earned him a smile from her.
"So are you out for a jog today? It's nice to see that someone else in town likes to keep in shape and get some exercise," Kiki responded with a small smile. Mob just nodded his head.
"Yes, I am in the Body Improvement Club back home. Since I cannot do the daily exercises with them while I am here, I make sure to perform our normal exercises every day. I do not want to disappoint Goda-taicho," Mob explained as he continued the jog.
Kiki was rather shocked at how dedicated Mob seemed to be to his club. Most kids and teens who were in a sports or athletic club would take some much needed time off from their club's activities if they were away on vacation. Mob though was completely dedicated to his club's exercise routine. That was really impressive.
Looking at the boy, she saw him begin to pant harder as they continued jogging. Clearly, he was not athletically gifted. He must have joined his club to try and improve his body. This gave her an idea actually.
"Hey Mob, do you mind if I join you when you perform your club activities? I like to work out myself, but my sister is not a huge fan of it. None of my friends from school are either so I always have to work out alone. It'd be nice to have a work out partner," Kiki questioned Mob who was so shocked by her question that he stumbled when his foot hit a pebble. Thankfully, Kiki was able to catch him with her free hand and keep him from smashing face first into the pavement.
After regaining his bearings, Mob looked up at Kiki. Nodding timidly, Mob gave a little smile as he responded, "Thank you Pizza-san. It would be nice to have someone to work out with. It would be like working out with my club members...although they are a little more extreme during our exercises."
Kiki chuckled as she tried to think of the kind of guys Mob usually works out with back in his home town. Maybe they were the sports-y type? Or the body builder type?...nah, she couldn't see Mob working out in a club of bodybuilders. Although, it'd be rather funny to see.
"How about we meet up at 5 tomorrow morning? This way we can go for a morning run and perform some of your club's exercises before I have to head off for my shift at work or to school," Kiki suggested to Mob who quickly nodded back. She was surprised at how willing he was to get up early, but then again...he was out around that time yesterday so maybe it's a normal thing for him? "Okay, it's set then! I'll see you tomorrow at 5 Mob! Now if you excuse me, I have to hurry and get this pizza to the customer before it turns cold. My father would kill me if he got a customer complaint. It was nice seeing you again, Mob! I'll see you tomorrow morning!"
Mob gave her a small wave as she increased her speed and ran off. As he watched her run off, Mob felt a small sense of relief fill his heart. It was like he was regaining a small part of his old routine. While it wouldn't completely feel the same as it did while working out with his club members back home, it made him feel a little happier. It was almost like he was creating a new Body Improvement Club.
Letting another small smile form, he looked back up and continued jogging towards the forest. While he now had something to look forward to tomorrow, he still needed to get rid of the evil spirits in the forest before they become a threat to the residents of Beach City.
Forest
Mob panted hard while his vision began to shake back and forth. Maybe he should not have jogged all the way out here. Leaning on a tree, Mob continued to pant as he tried to get his breathing, and heart beat, under control. It took around ten minutes to reach the forest after splitting up from Kiki. He almost fell on his face again when he was nearing the forest, but he was just able to catch himself by gripping a nearby pole. He really did not want to give Steven another reason to worry about him if he came back with a bloody nose.
Looking over, his eyes began to focus on a bright pink color that was moving back and forth rapidly. Blinking, he pushed himself back up and slowly walked towards it. A heinous feeling aura began to fill the atmosphere surrounding Mob.
"What's this...a kid with a rather strong aura...aw...an esper? That's interesting...this world does not seem to have the type of energy esper's emanate. Are you from my world?" a bodiless voice questioned Mob as the wind began to pick up. Mob watched as leaves swirled around him and his hair began moving back and forth.
The bright pink color began to spread and reform into a large, bulky humanoid. It had four glowing green eyes, two on its head over a flat mouth, and one on each arm's upper bicep. It's skin(?) was the same bright pink in the front while the back was blood red in color thanks to what looked like blood running down its back. It smirked down at Mob while leaning over him in an intimidating fashion.
"Well kid, while I admit that you have some esper abilities, I suggest that you leave now, and I might let you live another day. After all, I'm only here to haunt the residents of this world. So once again, beat it," the evil spirit threatened him with a large smirk on its face. Mob just blinked at it which caused it to flinch.
The spirit seemed to be unnerved at the fact that a kid was not scared or intimidated by him at all. Growling, it narrowed its eyes and brought its right arm up. As it moved to smash Mob into the ground, it gasped as it realized that Mob was no longer in front of it...and that most of its body was gone. "W-w-what?!?!" it yelled in shock before turning around and gasping.
Mob was now standing behind it with his arm out stretched. Before the evil spirit could say another word, Mob had his right hand out and tapped its head in a similar fashion to how he defeated Dimple (excluding the 100% power).
"Sorry."
And with that, the evil spirit was extinguished. Looking up, he saw the fading particles float upwards into a portal that had opened above them. As soon as the particles vanished, the portal closed and left the forest in its previous dark, shady form.
Looking around, Mob's aura surrounded his body for a moment before vanishing. "It's peaceful now..." Mob sighed as he turned to leave the forest only to pause as he looked over and saw what looked like a moss covered gem.
Bending down, he inspected it for a moment before slowly lifting it into his hand and wiping away some of the moss. It was an oval, almost circle-shaped dark gem with a large crack in it and a few specks of green sprinkled in the crack. "...what kind of gem is this?" Mob questioned as he looked at it one more time before deciding to place it in his pocket. Maybe the Crystal Gems will know what it is.

Beach Trip
For @agitatedgecko who gave this great prompt
Summary: The Esper Squad goes to the beach!
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/15079412
Fic:
Sat in class, Mob's phone buzzed in his pocket. He hoped it wasn't Reigen calling for an emergency assist. Usually he didn't try to contact Mob when he was in school, but if he was then it was an emergency. With sweaty hands, he discreetly flipped the phone open so that the teacher wouldn't see.
Hanazawa:
Kageyama! [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]!!!!!
Mob blinked at the screen, sighing before typing back.
Kageyama:
I can't see emojis, Hanazawa.
Hanazawa:
Oh! Sorry, I didn't know that. That's right, flip phone, yes? Like Master Reigen's?
Kageyama:
That's right.
Hanazawa:
I'll have to talk to him about bringing you both up to date. The 21st centuries greatest psychic and his student really should have 21st century technology, don't you think?
Mob smiled at that, but it was wiped away quickly when his teacher coughed pointedly to get his attention. He swallowed nervously, making sure the phone was safely out of sight and giving it a few moments before checking his next message.
Hanazawa:
Anyway, the reason I was texting you was to see if you wanted to go to the beach with me tomorrow? I was thinking of inviting that red head your brother likes as well, he looks like he'd play a good game of volleyball [ ] [ ]!!
Hanazawa:
Those are ball emojis.
Sorry.
Hanazawa:
Oh, and you can invite Little Brother too *・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'(*゚▽゚*)'・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
Kageyama:
It sounds like fun, I'll ask him.
Kageyama:
I have to go, I think my teacher is getting mad at me.
Hanazawa:
Don't get in trouble, Kageyama-kun! ;)
Mob did end up getting a scolding, but it ended up alright. He still kept his phone and now he had plans to go with his friends to the beach. He'd found Ritsu at lunch and asked him if he wanted to go, and they both agreed it sounded like a good time. Though, Mob wasn't sure why Ritsu seemed especially eager when he said who all was attending. Maybe his little brother just liked groups going to the beach? He didn't know.
After school, Ritsu and Mob bustled around the house to gather everything they needed, with Ritsu making sure they had essentials like water and sun screen and Mob in charge of towels and umbrellas.
"Do you think we'll need this?" Ritsu held up some pool noodles that the family had bought some years ago.
Mob shrugged. "Couldn't hurt, could it?"
By the time Teru and Shou arrived at their door, the brothers had packed everything together and gathered it by the door. Teru eyed the pile appraisingly. "Are we planning on moving to the beach?"
"You'll thank us later when you want what we brought." Ritsu said, pushing past with an armful of stuff and even more floating along behind him wrapped up in his aura.
"I don't think we'll be needing a barbecue pit, Little Brother!"
Ritsu only waved him off. As it turned out, they did use the barbecue pit, and most of the things that the Kageyama brothers had thought to bring. Both Shou and Teru had brought their own supplies, but as happens often, had forgotten some things. As Teru and Shou made use of the sunscreen, Ritsu watched on with smug satisfaction.
"Go ahead and say it, if you're so keen on making faces." Teru stuck his tongue out at Ritsu, making the boy grin wider.
He giggled, "Told you so." He only laughed harder when Teru sent a towel telekinetically flying into his face from the pile of supplies.
Mob smiled as his friend and brother bickered playfully. It was nice to have everyone out on such a nice day, and after a light meal, he got to practice his sand castle building skills. He started with a large pile of sand with a leaf sticking out the top for a main castle, simple and easy, but then expanded that structure with more and more intricate buildings as it flowered out.
"Hey Mob, think my castle could beat your castle?" Shou called from a few feet away.
Mob looked up and his eyes widened at the sight. Shou had really gone all out, each piece of his castle intricately made with a moat and little sand alligators "swimming" around a well guarded gate. It seemed that Shou had learned some sort of sand telekineses to get everything just right. What worried Mob, though, were the canons perched on the castle walls.
"You wouldn't dare." Mob held out a hand over his creation, as if just his noodly appendage would protect it.
Shou grinned wider, putting his finger to one of the canons and making a sound with his mouth like a lit fuse. "Your kingdom has been in power for too long, sir Kageyama! I am here to overthrow you and take your kingdom as my own!"
As if to punctuate the statement, the canon gave a little bang! and out popped a little sea shell that took out the flag at the top of Mob's center castle.
Sand erupted, showering Mob with the small grains as he closed his eyes to protect them. He opened them and looked between his castle, now with a chunk missing, and the cackling Shou. His mouth slowly quirked into a mischievous grin. "You realize this means war, don't you?"
And soon, there was sand flying and laughter ringing through the air as the two boys played in the sand. Ritsu smiled as he watched his best friend and brother duel it out harmlessly.
"It's nice they're getting along." Teru said, sitting next to Ritsu under the shade of an umbrella. "To be honest, I didn't think those two would. At least, not at first."
Ritsu was about to protest, say something about how that was ridiculous, but thinking back to Shou's first encounter with his brother and all that happened... They'd come a long way since then. "Yeah, it's nice."
Teru gave Ritsu a side look, sweat dripping down his brow. "Same with us as well, if I may say so."
Ritsu thought about that as well, nodding slowly. "Yeah. Us too."
Teru relaxed, just a fraction but Ritsu noticed. From what he knew, Teru didn't have many friends. He was always alone when he wasn't with them, and he always seemed giddy to spend time together even if all they were doing was chores.
Ritsu looked to his pile of supplies and pulled out a beach ball, "Want to play?"
Teru smiled, and it looked positively devious. "Absolutely."
They played a few rounds, the score a lot closer than either thought it would. The game started straight laced, but after a few rounds of that, the gloves came off and powers were introduced. At some point, Shou and Mob also joined in the game, since they had no more sand castle to defend. Mob went to Ritsu's side and Shou to Teru's, and both sides fought valiantly until all were exhausted and lying in the sand as the sun began to set.
"We should do this more often." Shou said, winded and delighted.
"Yeah... we didn't even really get in the water that much," Ritsu agreed.
"I could do without the sand in my... everywhere." Mob held his shirt away from his skin, a cascade of sand falling from the fabric from his and Shou's epic battle. "But yes, I agree."
"Perhaps next weekend? I have tests next week, but the weekend should be free. Master Reigen's office is usually closed on Sundays, maybe we could invite him along next time?"
"At least then we wouldn't have to carry everything, he could drive us." Ritsu grumbled, eyeing the pile of things he still had to take back home.
"Regrets in packing choices, Little Brother?" Teru teased, and there was laughter at his joke. Genuine laughter, not the cruel sort he was used to from the goons at Black Vinegar. It warmed his heart.
"I have a pool, actually." Shou pipes in, "If y'all want."
"Next time, then." Ritsu nodded, resolute. Plans set, they enjoyed the rest of the sunset by the beach.

notes (translation and otherwise) on chapters 100.12 and 100.13
basically i typed these up the day of translation for the respective chapters but never published them because i was feeling weird about them but i figured i’d put them out there anyway
translation notes marked with a * at the front so you can read only those if you want. overall this is pretty long and kind of nonsensical
--
for 100.12
*the "brother you can earnestly compete with" is the same phrase that i translated last chapter as "serious conflict," as in "there's never been a serious conflict between us," and i can't decide whether i translated it too strongly and then too weakly or vice versa but basically the meaning of the phrase (honki de butsukariau) is like, “seriously clash.” yeah, clash is the best word, isn’t it. it’s got all the right connotations, like bouncing off each other and general conflict but not necessarily a destructive fight and also not necessarily a friendly competition. yeah i should’ve said clash both times, huh. do you ever have regrets
*i was right about the sound effect at the end of 100.11 being a flash, sort of..? it was a precursor to this first panel's sound effect, which is "PIGIIIIN" which is an unusual sound effect, or at least, one i haven't really seen before. i mean it's entirely possible to just invent a one-off sound effect for any particular situation, you know? but in this case the sound effect appears to describe the phenomenon of ritsu being utterly immobilized by ???% in an instant
i was wrong about the percentage meter being mob's :0
raise your hand if you lost your shit after doing a double- or triple-take between the omake title and the omake itself and finally realizing what it was
i still need to sort out exactly how ritsu's interpretation of ???% and my ???% hypothesis work out, but i've been too busy playing psychonauts... plus i'm sure we will continue to better understand the nature of ???% as this chapter progresses. [[edit: psychonauts was good, and i’m probably going to reserve judgment on ???% until we get the full story, since there’s no point in speculating when your speculations will be addressed a week later]]
--
for 100.13:
*well, i had a lot of decisions to make in this chapter... which i guess actually just means i was slightly confused/ambivalent a lot. it comes with the territory of not actually being that good at japanese. i've said this before, right? it's on my about page. so don't let it come as a surprise to anyone that i'm not that good at japanese. i mean i'm not terrible, i have a solid handle on it. it's just that my approach to translation is more like decrypting a cipher as accurately as possible and then phrasing it in a way that captures both the meaning and the feeling. i try really hard, but i know i couldn’t be a professional translator without further education. that’s why i never claimed/aimed to be the best or only translator of this series. but i do still believe my work is accurate.
*anyway, starting on the first page. ritsu says "wakatta... wakatta yo..." and wakatta just means "understood" and the "yo" adds emphasis, but we don't quite have any emphasis-adding particle in english, so i changed the latter to "i get it" to make it sound more insistent. even though i really try not to translate the same phrase two different ways, especially not in direct sequence like that. but at first i translated it as "i get it... / i get it, okay..." and that sounded way too whiny, so i thought the better way to phrase it would be to do what i did. i think ritsu feels bad about causing distress to ???% and is saying, like, "i know it feels bad, but i had to do it." (<< interpretation, not a translation)
*when ritsu says "right...?" i was thinking about translating that as "don't you think...?" (what he actually says is just "nee...?" which is just a call for confirmation basically) and while i do think "don't you think...?" would've been the cuter translation, i went with "right...?" because it has the same number of syllables as the raw line and maintaining brevity is important to me sometimes.
*thanks again to femoralynn for hand-drawing the "STOP!!!" on the third page~ i think it makes a big difference. in the raws it was also hand-drawn and it said "TOMAREEE" which means... "STOP," but in english there's no good way to add more letters to "stop" to indicate you're stretching out the pronunciation, so i added three exclamation points in order to convey the intensity and desperation of the line. even though i usually try my best to stick with the punctuation offered in canon without adding or removing any.
*translating newscasters is an ordeal because they use hella kanji but i think i got the majority of it down... the only bit i'm not very confident on is the speech bubble to the right of tsubomi's face, but like, i don't think it will have a huge bearing on the story, and i'm pretty sure it's close enough. i've said before that i'm not going for archive quality, and i'm not going to go back and fix little mistakes unless they're really annoying or really important to understanding the story (like the mistakes i fixed last week).
*i hope it's clear in the "the government has claimed that no official agencies are involved in this matter" line that they're saying that no official agencies are responsible for causing this disaster, and what they're NOT saying is that there's no government agency investigating it. because like. surely there is. like, joseph works for the government, and he dropped touichirou on it, so the government is doing Something.
*yes, ???% uses "boku" pronouns. an established fact, but just a reminder to the curious who forgot or didn’t know in the first place.
*oh, i might've mentioned this in previous translation notes, but whenever i put "power" in quotes like that, it's because it's in quotes in the raws. whenever it's Not in quotes (like in ritsu's "innermost power" line), i don't put it in quotes. i'm not yet sure about the significance of this, because although mob seems to use "power" in quotes consistently, he's not the only one who does it, and yet, not everyone does it. hmm.
i guess i’ve unconsciously switched to using “he” pronouns for ???% sometimes in my meta. this is probably exactly what ???% wants...!
*now about the confusion that led me to post the chapter an hour late. on page 8 of the chapter (labeled page 149 in the bottom right corner), you'll notice that the four speech bubbles in the last two panels have no tails to indicate the speaker. tailless speech bubbles are my mortal enemy, as both a translator and a comics reader in general, and if you're someone who makes comics or ever will, i strongly urge you to add tails to your speech bubbles no matter what (and if the speaker is offscreen, do the thing where you make an inverse tail in the speech bub by taking out a wedge). so basically, i rely heavily on context and got confused about who is speaking in the last two lines of this page. of course, i was also confused by the grammar to a degree, otherwise i wouldn't have had to rely on context in this case. anyway, at first, i thought it was ???% saying, "if you do that, you'll disappear. i live freely." the first line makes sense in a way, telling mob that he'd disappear if ???% disappeared, but the second line seems like a non sequitur, and i couldn't really make sense of it. then i thought, oh, it's mob talking from offscreen, and he's saying, "if only you would disappear. then i could live freely." that's a very reasonable sentiment for mob to express, and it would make sense as mob elaborating on the line that came directly before those two lines... but then, on the next page, it seemed strange for mob to be saying his fifth line in a row. it seemed like it should be more of a back and forth than just mob talking at ???%. and note that i had poor femoralynn typeset all these confused iterations as i thought of them at like 11:25 this morning. sorry again for that. but anyway i finally realized that ???% really IS the one talking in those last two lines (no thanks to the tailless speech bubbles, again), and he's responding to mob's request to go away by suggesting that mob should be the one to go away, since he's the fake one. and finally that makes perfect sense with the lines surrounding it. i don't know why it took me so long to understand that... but the speech bubbles definitely had something to do with it. remember, kids, if you put dialogue in your comics but don't indicate who is speaking, the reader doesn't know either! unless they're the only one on the page, like when mob was yelling into the void inside his own head.
it doesn’t help that in japanese, they often leave the subject (and sometimes the object) out of the sentence entirely and leave it to me to interpret who is doing a verb to what/whom. because in english, you can’t just leave the subject out of a sentence. (e.g. “korosu” is just the verb “to kill” but if you say “korosu” to someone, you’re essentially saying “i’ll kill you.” notice how i had to add the subject [i] and the object [you] even though the literal translation would be nothing but the verb “kill.” so if i see a speech bubble that says “korosu” and it doesn’t have a tail to indicate who is saying it, i Literally Cannot Know who is threatening to kill whom or what, except by using context to make an educated guess. you see why this is a problem? and naturally they do this with tons of verbs completely unrelated to killing, i just thought of “korosu” first because bakugou katsuki says it all the time)
(ONE-sensei is usually very good about tailing his speech bubbles. i wonder if the lack of tails was intentional here, meant to further reflect the fact that mob is arguing with himself and that they’re kind of both technically the same speaker. still confusing though)
(oh and for the curious, the raws for the last 3 lines on that page, page 149, were as follows: 「僕の中からいなくなってくれ。」 「だったらキミが消えてくれ。」 「僕は自由に生きる。」 yeah the "kure" in that second line really threw me off bc i'm a fool and also i translated that same "kure" as "please" for mob but i didn't put "please" in ???%'s line because i couldn't figure out how to put it in there concisely and also it's clear that ???% is being a dick even if he kinda said please. and also because i don't know shit)
(and fuck, if i'm being honest, that "please" probably teleported up to ritsu's "so please... come home..." line, because he didn't actually say please in that line. should i correct it? i feel like a fraud. i just thought the "please" helped convey the sentiment of the line, but in retrospect i could've translated it more accurately without losing the feeling of it.......... what ritsu really says in that line is "dakara... kaettekite ne..." which, if you've watched the one punch man anime, you can only hear as the lyrics to the extremely sappy ending credits song, so maybe that impression of extreme sappiness sapped through into my translation and made me make it sappier than it really was...............)
about how ???% is like "ritsu is my little brother. he was saying that i'm his older brother." i might be wrong in my interpretation (not translation, which is more or less literal, but the interpretation i'm about to give), but i took this to mean something along the lines of "just now, ritsu kept addressing me as his brother. i think that means i am his brother. today i learned that i am ritsu's brother." as opposed to meaning something more like "i'm the one he called 'nii-san,' so i'm his brother and you're not." (plus ???% did not literally say, “he called me nii-san.” i translated that line accurately.) although either way, it seems to indicate that ???% only just recently started noticing (or being able to notice) whom ritsu is addressing as "nii-san;" otherwise, ???% would have known that the other million times ritsu has called someone "nii-san" in his life, it has been directed at mob, not ???%. so even if ???% is suggesting that he is ritsu's only True nii-san, his claim is only based on the last few minutes of ritsu addressing him directly, which would back up my claim that ???% only learned/decided just now that ritsu is his little brother... if any of this makes any sense.
i love how serizawa is like "let's get out of here i'm sure kageyama-kun is fine" and reigen's like "...he's in the tornado isn't he" and seri's like "..........maybe"
and serizawa's new umbrella, which he must have picked out and bought himself specifically to use as his preferred vessel of psychic power, is transparent. is that... a bubble umbrella...?

Message : Happy Holidays! This was actually pretty fun to write, even though it isn’t that great. I hope you like it! Merry Christmas!
Reigen was definitely not an esper.
He couldn’t be.
Because, if he was…
Well, if he was, he would’ve noticed that they’d been separated, wouldn’t he?
__________________________________________________________
It was Shou’s idea, at first. Mob’s day had already deviated from the relaxing usual routine when Ritsu had insisted on coming with him to work. “To keep an eye on him,” he had said, but Mob knew something must’ve caused Ritsu’s intense distrust of Reigen to flare up once more. Maybe it was the fact that this was a big case. In fact, it was so big that they’d called in backup in the form of Teru and Shou.
There had been reports of a poltergeist terrorizing the areas in and around the Hoisin theme park - it was so severe that the park had actually shut down. The owner, frantic about the amount of money he was losing by closing the park down smack in the middle of summer, had come to the first person willing to help - Reigen, the fifty-second psychic on the list.
They had been paired off and had split up - Mob and Ritsu together, and Reigen supervising the other two, not really sure if he could trust them to stay focused.
They’d been investigating for all of fifteen minutes when Shou got bored and dragged Teru into an alley. Reigen kept walking, still talking about his innate abilities and how they were so strong that he needed weaker espers to help him with simple stuff like this.
“What’s up?” asked Teru, seemingly unfazed by being dragged into an alley by the son of a crazy megalomaniac.
“I haven’t been to a theme park in ages,” said Shou, his eyes bright with barely contained excitement, “And I bet Ritsu and Ritsu’s brother haven’t either.”
“Well, what ’s stopping us?” grinned Teru.
“I think I last saw them that way.”
__________________________________________________________
“But the park is closed,” said Ritsu.
Teru rolled his eyes. “Oh, Llittle Brother-kun, you naïve soul. What do you think we have powers for?”
“What about Shishou and the spirit?” protested Mob.
“Ditch work today,” shrugged Shou. “I’m sure Reigen will understand.”
“Yeah, niisan, if reigen-san is as great as he claims to be, he wont need our help.” Ritsu’s eyes gleamed.
“Well…” Mob couldn’t argue with that. And he did want to go to a theme park.
Shou’s enormous grin widened another centimetre.
“What’re we waiting for then?”
__________________________________________________________
“Which one do you guys want to ride first?” asked Shou. “I’ve been on the Brain-Melter, but I don’t really remember it, and I don’t think I’ve been on the Limb-Twister yet.”
“Those sound a bit dangerous…” said Mob, but Ritsu and Teru had both spoken over him.
“Limb-twister,” they said in unison, then looked at each other in surprise, like they hadn’t ever thought they could have similar tastes.
“Limb-Twister it is,” shrugged Shou, ducking under the rope that kept the line to the roller coaster closed.
“Lucky us, there’s no line,” drawled Teru.
“The park is closed, Teru-kun. How could there be a line?” asked Mob.
Ritsu snickered.
“Come on slowpokes, we don’t have all day!” yelled Shou, from where he was already seated in the cart. “We need to get back before Reigen notices we’re gone or Ritsu’s big brother could get in big trouble!”
Once they were settled in the cart (Ritsu and Mob in front, Teru and Shou behind), there was the debate about who should push the cart up and down the tracks.
“It was my idea, so I should get to do it!” argued Shou.
“Well I don’t trust you to not get us all killed, so…”
“Hmmm.” Shou chewed on his lower lip, trying to come up with a quick solution. “Well, how about your brother and I push, Ritsu? You trust him, don’t you?”
Ritsu turned to look at his brother.
“I don’t mind,” said Mob.
“Alright then! Remember, Ritsu’s brother, the tracks are for babies and we’ve got to make this go as fast as it can to get the full experience!”
“No-”
“Don’t-”
“LET’S GO!” yelled Shou, cutting Teru and Ritsu’s protests short as the cart blasted forward, propelled by pure esper energy and a desire to have fun.
“THIS IS FUN!” called Mob at the top of his voice, trying to be heard over the rushing in his ears. Ritsu’s answering smile looked suspiciously like a grimace.
Must’ve been the wind.
“FASTER!” yelled Shou, and Mob complied.
As they approached the peak, Teru seemed to break.
“STOP! YOU GUYS ARE GONNA GET US KILLED YOU HAVE TO-”
There was a break. They were perfectly balanced on the peak of the coaster, seemingly impossibly high. Time stopped just long enough for Teru to finish his sentence.
“-slow down.”
And then they fell forward, hurtling faster and faster towards certain doom. Mob and Shou screamed in exhilaration.
(Ritsu and Teru were also screaming in exhilaration, definitely not terror why do you ask?)
__________________________________________________________
“Well! That was fun! What’s next?” said Shou, hopping out of the cart as it screeched to a stop, courtesy of Teru and Ritsu, who looked haggard. Mob also clambered out, after it had stopped, and offered a hand to Ritsu, who took it gladly.
Teru repeatedly ran his hands through his less-impeccable-than-usual hair.
“Whatever Kageyama-kun wants.”
“I think I would like to go on the Mind-Melter. It has loops,” said Mob.
Teru’s smile instantly became more pained, but he gave a forced hum of assent anyway.
“As long as we don’t go too fast,” said Ritsu. “I still don’t trust you, Shou.”
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” said Shou dismissively as he bounced towards the Mind-Melter.
“Last one there is a smelly fart!”
“Real mature,” said Teru, and Ritsu rolled his eyes, but both of them sped up anyway.
__________________________________________________________
The instant they got into the car, Ritsu and Teru regretted it. Shou had gotten there first, and they had slowed down so that Mob wouldn’t be last.
“Move your asses!” Shou had said, before flicking his hand and shoving both of them into the back seat of the car.
“That wasn’t very nice, Suzuki-kun,” scolded Mob, but he didn’t stop Shou from speeding the car along the tracks before the two in the back could be seated properly.
“You’re going too fast! We need to stop!” said Teru. “Little brother-kun agrees with me, doesn’t he?”
“Well, yeah, but I have a name. You should use it.”
“See!”
“Look, if we slow down we’re not gonna have enough momentum to finish the loop,” said Shou, “ So y'all are just gonna have to suuck iit uupp!”
They stopped at the center of the loop. Hanging upside down, there was just enough time for Shou to give the backseat a dirty look before they fell out of the cart. They caught themselves, each esper supported by their own aura, and, suprisingly, Shou’s.
Ritsu shot him a quizzical look.
“Accidents at theme parks just get in the way,” said Shou, but he looked very relieved that everyone seemed unhurt. His relief quickly turned to irritation.
“Alright, which of you morons did this?” he snapped.
“They aren’t morons,” rebuked Mob, but he seemed to agree with the assessment.
“It wasn’t us, you dumb-” Ritsu cast a look at his older brother and cut himself off.
“You may be annoying and slightly insane, but your understanding of physics is pretty sound, Suzuki-kun,” said Teru, legs crossed and inspecting his nails like none of this even phased him.
“It could be the spirit we came to investigate,” said Mob in a small voice, just in case he was wrong.
The others’ eyes widened simultaneously, as though they would never have thought of that.
“You truly are a genius, Kageyama-kun,” said Teru in awe.
Ritsu shot him a dirty look.
“Yeah, good job Ritsu’s brother,” Shou smirked.
“I guess we should find this spirit then?” asked Teru, starting to get up from his reclining position, still midair.
“No need!” chirped an unfamiliar voice, putting all four espers on guard.
A child-spirit hovered before them, grinning ear to ear.
“That was so great! If more people had fun like that I might not have had to shut down the park!”
With twin sighs, Teru and Ritsu raised their arms to exorcise the spirit, only to be stopped by Mob.
“If we find out what he wants, we don’t have to hurt him,” he said, causing the other two to drop their hands.
‘So what exactly do you want, kid?“ asked Shou.
The spirit’s smile widened.
"To have fun!”
__________________________________________________________
“I knew this was a bad idea,” murmured Ritsu to Teru. They were hanging behind the other two, who had run ahead to start on the bouncy castle with the spirit.
“Kageyama-kun is very smart,” said Teru, “and wise. Why does he insist on trusting spirits he’s just met?”
Ritsu sighed.
“Niisan is neither smart nor wise. But he is very kind. Almost too kind,” he said, shooting a look at Teru.
“He sometimes befriends characters he would be better off without.”
Teru nodded, as though Ritsu had confided an important secret in him.
“Then I’ll help you make sure none of them hurt him.”
He started to catch up with the others, leaving Ritsu to stare after him incredulously.
Just how unaware was this guy?
__________________________________________________________
“Where were you kids? I’ve been searching all day! You can’t just run off without telling me! What if the poltergeist had gotten you?”
Mob looked at Shou. Ritsu looked at Teru. Shou looked at Ritsu. Teru looked at Mob.
“Do you wanna stop looking at each other and actually say something?”
Mob decided to take pity on his Shishou, who was sweating very hard.
“It did.”
“Huh?”
“The poltergeist. It did get us.”
“HUH??!!”
They watched as sweat dripped down Reigen’s face, even faster than before.
“Are any of you hurt?”
Ritsu raised a mocking eyebrow, but Mob just shook his head.
“We’re fine Shishou. We played some games with him and then he left.”
“Just like that?”
“Well…”
Mob’s mind flashed back to when the spirit, wanting Mob and Shou to stay and play with him, had tried to kill them so they could haunt the park together. Ritsu and Teru had jumped into action with the first movement the spirit made towards Mob, but Shou had beat them to it, exorcising the thing with a fiery snap of his fingers.
“Yes.” said Teru, finishing Mob’s sentence for him. “Just like that.”
“Well then,” said Reigen, looking at their sweaty, flushed faces, “God job kids. Let’s go home.”
“Can we get takoyaki first?”
“Of course, Mob. Of course we can.”

Chapter 4: For No One
Shou was so excited, he couldn't stand still, so he bounced on his feet as Ritsu opened the door. Spending the night with friends was a new experience and he was as eager as he'd been at the amusement park, if not more.
“Suzuki-kun” Shigeo had catch up with them and called, almost too soft to be heard.
Shou had considered asking him to just use his first name, like Ritsu did, but he knew the older would just attach the “-kun” to it. Which wasn't bad but only Serizawa called him that, so wouldn't that be weird?
“Hm?” He turned to him, distracted by his own thoughts.
“No powers in this house, Suzuki-kun” Shigeo said and it sounded like a threat, but as he briefly raised his head, Shou thought he could see a hint of fear on his eyes. It was so intense, however, that he could only nod, taking half a step back.
But he quickly recovered when Ritsu motioned them to follow him, and he all but jumped inside, scanning the place, ready to take on every little detail. It was more colorful than his own, impeccable house; it smelled nice too, like how he imagined a home would smell. He smiled and took a quick tour around the living room: he inspected a framed child's drawing, booped the nose of a porcelain cat and made faces at himself in front of an antique wall mirror. Momentarily satisfied, he returned to Ritsu's side and enthusiastically shook hands with the tall, smiling man who had come to greet them.
“Nice to meet you, Kageyama-san, and thanks for having us!” He beamed, trying to stand taller. Seri would be so proud of his polite manners! “The name's Suzuki Shou, at your service!” He finished his act with a deep bow and a grin, which grew bigger as Ritsu hushed “stop being a fool”, and his dad laughed.
There was silence after that, and Shou could feel it growing uncomfortable, though he wasn't sure why, until Ritsu's dad spoke again.
“Come over here!” He called, and only then Shou realized Shigeo had been standing by the door the whole time. “Long time no see, eh, Shige? Look at how tall you've got! Your mother is reading at our room, but she won't mind you saying hi”
Shou registered all the exchange with interest, and followed Shigeo with his eyes as he shrugged, mumbled something unintelligible and walked away.
Ritsu cleared his throat then, looking somewhat tense.
“Let's- Let's go to my room, Shou”
Some minutes later, Shigeo joined them. They had been fighting over which game they should play first when they heard a soft chuckle, and stopped to see the older esper looking at them with a fond expression.
“Ah, Nii-san!” Ritsu stood up smiling, as Shou looked down, feeling embarrassed but, not exactly? It was just, Shigeo's laugh had been so adorable…! “Which game do you prefer?”
Shigeo entered the room slowly and sat on Ritsu's bed.
“I'm not good at video games, but I want to see you play”
“You still can pick one!” Ritsu insisted, pushing the game he wanted to play towards his brother. Shigeo shook his head and smiled almost imperceptibly.
“You should let Shou-kun choose, he's the guest after all” He said, and Ritsu turned to glare at Shou, who laughed and stuck his tongue at him.
“Alright. Catch” Ritsu said then, throwing the cases to Shou; who got hit on the face with one before he could stop the other mid-air, a faint glow around it.
That gave him an idea.
“Hey! Check out this neat trick I- !” He cut himself brusquely as he saw Shigeo went pale, eyes wide open, and lowered his hand, with the game case along it. “Let's just play the one you wanted, Ritsu” He conceded with a grin.
Ritsu glanced quickly between Shou and Shigeo, and then sat down on the floor in silence, preparing to start the game.
“Katsuya” Touichirou's voice called as in a dream, warm and close, and inviting. Serizawa could swear he opened his eyes the second he heard him, but by then there were no one else in his room. He still got up, yawning, and rubbed his eyes.
For a moment he just stood there, pondering what to do next.
Go see Touichirou, was his first impulse. But no, no when he just woke up, no. First… brush his teeth? But he should put on his pants first. Was it cold outside his room? Maybe even change the sweatshirt he slept on. It was so warm, though. That could wait. Perhaps it'd be better to make the bed now, before leaving the room. Or leave that for after breakfast. Yes. He should start preparing breakfast. And wake Shou up… No, right, Shou wasn't home. At what time did Shou go to sleep last night? He should remember to ask him that when he's back, to see he's keeping a good sleep schedule. But maybe staying up late once in a while wasn't bad. He was a teen after all, that's what teens do. Or so he supposes.
Serizawa sat down on his bed. What was he thinking about? Oh, yeah. What was he going to do next?
“Katsuya, breakfast is ready” The dream-like voice called again, and that was all Serizawa needed to stand up, put on a pair pants, and walk out.
The sight was so domestic, when he stepped into the kitchen, that he felt his heart beat faster, even with the strong smell of coffee filling the room.
Touichirou was sitting on the corner of the table, warming his hands with a steaming cup, and a hint of smile in his face, which softened his features. He pointed to the other cup and patted the seat next to him, waiting until Serizawa sat down to speak.
“I think we should celebrate, right?”
Serizawa took a sip of his coffee, managing to keep his grimacing to a minimum. It was black. He looked around the table but there was no sugar in sight. Nervously, he took another sip.
“Was your business trip successful?” He smiled despite the bitterness on his mouth. Touichirou grinned and held out a hand, rubbing Serizawa's knuckles, and took a long sip from his own mug.
“Well, yes. But that's not what I mean. You're making progress!”
“Huh?” As Serizawa pulled a confused expression, the calm in the room seemed to break. Touchirou was still grinning, but his lips looked tense at the edge.
“You left yesterday, without your umbrella, am I right? That's good news!”
Serizawa froze. The weight of Touchirou's hand over his seemed to increase suddenly, but no move had been made.
“I don't…” His mind was racing, and it made his head spin. It all came to him so sudden that it brought tears to his eyes.
That was right. Last day…
Shou had pulled him along, without letting him prepare. He didn't notice at all, with Shou's small warm hand guiding him…
“Are you saying something, sweetheart? I can't hear you”
It hadn't been him, it was Shou! But no, he couldn't say it, he shouldn't bring the boy into this…
“I-I didn't…” Why didn't he notice? Shou-kun left… then Reigen distracted him… Serizawa shook his head and attempted to pull his hand to his chest, but the grip on it didn't allow him. “I didn't mean to leave it…”
“But you did” Toiuchirou's voice was cold, now, and even when took his hand away and stood up, Serizawa could feel his power weighting against him.
“Touichirou…” Serizawa pleaded, but the other wasn't listening. Instead he reached out his arm and as if magnetized, the umbrella came instantly flying from across the room.
Touichirou inspected the umbrella in his hand with a look of despise, and when he looked up, Serizawa could see the faint outline of his psychic powers around it.
“You didn't mean to leave it home, but you did. Could it be you didn't notice it? The gift I gave you…” Touichirou's voice was low and cold; and suddenly he seemed to grow taller, and unreachable. Serizawa sank on his chair “It can only mean you don't need it anymore. That's alright.”
It wasn't alright.
It wasn't alright! He still needed it, but he couldn't say anything, he could only watch in shock how the object trembled with the amount of power being imbued into it.
“Shall I destroy it, then?”
“No!” He shrieked, louder than he meant to, and immediately recoiled, clasping his hands over his mouth.
Everything kind of stilled then, his breathing and the spinning of his head, and Touichirou's powers. And then Touichirou just let the umbrella drop unceremoniously, and his expression returned to neutral.
“Pick this up” He said, gesturing to the table as he headed out of the room. Serizawa hurried to comply. “And get ready, we're heading out”
“But Shou-kun isn't home yet” Serizawa let out before he could catch himself. Touichirou stopped walking but didn't turn to look at him to reply.
“He's not a little kid, and it's only a couple hours. Get everything you need”
Serizawa nodded, but only leaned to pick his umbrella when he heard the click of Touichirou's room door as it closed. Letting out a shaky sigh, he held it close to his body.
He stood there, then, and waited, until Touichirou returned and threw him an examiner glance.
“I said, get everything you need” Clutching the umbrella harder, Serizawa looked at him, puzzled. “A jacket. Or do you want to catch a cold?” Touichirou barely contained an exasperated sigh, and Serizawa scrambled to his room to find a jacket.
The ride was uncomfortable. Serizawa's ears were buzzing since they left the house; and even when Touichirou was normally referring details of his trip as he drove, Serizawa couldn't stop thinking about how upset he had been earlier, and all because of his carelessness.
All in all, it didn't take long to reach their destination, an average house in an average neighborhood.
“I don't want any distraction, alright, Katsuya?” Toiuchirou said, ringing the doorbell; and as Serizawa pulled out his phone to silence it, a guy with thick glasses and an easy smile opened the door. Touichirou quickly assessed him, and hummed in satisfaction.
“Hatori, right?” The guy nodded “I'm Suzuki Touichirou, we talked on the phone” With professional elegancy, Touichirou extended his hand.
“Nice to meet you. Please, come inside” Hatori shook his hand and moved to make space. His eyes shifted to Serizawa first, and then his umbrella, curious. Serizawa hunched, nervous under his gaze, trying to make himself less noticeable.
“This is my partner, Serizawa” Touichirou introduced simply, and Serizawa stood taller “The other is here, too?”
“Yes” Hatori's smile grew bigger, and then turned to walk in front of them “Over here” He guided them into a neat, dimly lighted living room, and pointed to someone already sitting there. “They're Minegishi”
Minegishi, whose expression looked bored, lifted a hand for a quick wave, and then played with a strand of their hair.
Hatori pulled two more chairs, and Touichirou looked over the other three before sitting down and start talking.
What was he talking about, Serizawa wasn't sure, and he wasn't making an effort to pay attention. He was too distracted with his handsome face, how his lips stretched with his careful modulation, the concise way his hands moved… He didn't want to outright stare, that would make the other uncomfortable, but he couldn't help sneaking glances at him. He had missed him so much…
He did catch a bit about “noteworthy powers”, and “looking forward to work with them”, and it clicked.
These people were espers, too, and powerful ones at that. Touichirou knew already, of course, but it took until then for Serizawa to recognize, since the aura they emanated was far different from the ones he was so used - Touichirou's, and Shou's; and lately Shigeo's. It probably meant they had different powers? He could remember Touichirou mentioning there were espers with all kind of specializations. He wondered what these two could do… He looked up and Minegishi's eyes were fixed on him, inquisitive and unreadable. Startled, he lowered his head, and a warm hand settled on his knee.
“If you're distracted, you can wait outside” Were Touichirou's hushed words when he looked at him, and almost automatically, Serizawa stood up and left the room.
Once outside, he sighed and took out his phone, to distract himself. He nearly panicked when he saw he had a lost call, and a string of new messages. Had something happened with Shou?
In frenzy, he opened the messages and read over them quickly, and when he saw it was nothing bad, he reread them, more focused this time.
>Hey hey! This is Reigen Arataka!
>I forgot to thank you yesterday for walking the boys to Ritsu's
>So, thank you!
>We should hang out again
>If you're cool with it!
>Also!!
>I've been thinking for a while that I should hire someone to help in the office
>Mainly for paperwork and stuff like that, it's nothing too heavy but it gets too much for just one person…
>And Mob said you don't have a job so I thought maybe you'd be interested??
>Because you seem pretty chill and responsible
>…That didn't sound weird, did it? I hope it didn't sound weird
>Well anyway, if you think you're interested, just lemme know!
Frowning, and thinking, Serizawa put the phone back on his pocket.
“What would you say… If I got a job?” Serizawa brought up later that day, when they were settling to sleep.
Touichirou, already on the bed and watching him change, slightly raised his eyebrows at the question.
“One would say I make enough money for the house” He said, and he sounded amused.
Serizawa took out his pants and folded them.
“Y-yeah, you do, but…”
“You want to get a job”
Serizawa shrugged and nodded at the same time. There was silence as he went under the covers, into the other's arm, and then Touichirou spoke again.
“If that's what you want…” He made a pause. Serizawa listened intently. “Just keep in mind that it's not easy to find a job, you know. And you didn't even finish middle school” Serizawa felt a jab at his chest, but said nothing, and Touichirou was already done with the topic. “Turn off the lights, would you, Katsuya? I'm too tired”
Serizawa made a small noise of agree and was about to stand up, but he found out he was feeling extremely tired as well. After a moment of consideration, he lifted a trembling hand and psychically switched the lights off.

There’s a definite chance I might not be writing this BUT
I had a detroit become human idea for a Mob Psycho fic, it’s pretty loose considering I had the idea while sitting in the back of a car and standing under the shower head.
There’s probably a chance I would be writing it but it’s kinda leaning to a “Nah, probably not”.
With that being said, I kinda don’t want to trash the idea as a whole without it meeting the light of day, so I’m gonna spill my ideas here so I can look back and think; “Wow. That’s shit.”
To add, this whole thing will sound more like babbling than an actual summary, so excuse me lmao.
Tsubomi doesn’t have any friends. But coming from a wealthy family, her parents decides to buy her a friend. Cue Shigeo/Mob.
I had a funny model name for all the child androids ‘ESP(insert number, for Shigeo it’s 100)’ despite this being a no powers AU. Then I realized it probably wouldn’t fit because I am low key planning for all the espers to be androids and realized ‘Wow, ha ha, that’s a lot of androids’ so now SOME of the espers are androids.
Okay so fast forward and Tsubomi’s parents are thinking, “We should replace Shigeo, he’s kinda old fashioned now.”
“Mom we only had him for 4 years.”
“Exactly.”
But Tsubomi’s really attached to Mob because he’s her best friend, and doesn’t tell him he might be replaced until he finds out himself. He goes bat shit crazy and tries to kill himself and Tsubomi. Cue Serizawa, a cop android.
Serizawa calms my boy down and Shigeo’s like, “You’re right, I shouldn’t be doing this. I’m so--” bang. Tsubomi low key gets traumatized, Shigeo is bleeding blue on the floor.
We shift to the next scene where Shigeo wakes up on like a bed except it’s actually a table. Cue Reigen, he works at Cyberlife as a child therapist/repair worker. Actually, my man was suppose to be just a repair worker but he got promoted to child therapist for calming down a raging Teru.
“Kid, you remember anything?”
“I- Sorta? Where am I, am I gonna be killed?”
Reigen’s like sweating because he isn’t sure himself, Shigeo’s the first kid who tried to commit murder. But as they talked, Reigen’s kinda surprised to realize that Shigeo’s actually a really really sweet kid.
Shigeo asks how Tsubomi is doing and if she hates him. Reigen tells him she’s fine and she misses him. Which is the truth, but he doesn’t mention that Tsubomi did end up getting a replacement in fear of ticking Shigeo off. Cue Ritsu, the replacement android best friend.
There’s a sort of cell holding all the ‘defect’ child androids, like a little playroom but also an actual cell, and inside there’s: Gou, Rei, Takeshi, Daichi, Kaito and Teru.
Cue Teru, who is the only one who has a similar case to Shigeo; he punched a kid in the nose and sent him to the hospital, which made his mom very very pissed and sent him for repairs. Because of this, he’s enraged further and the staff can’t send him back unless his attitude changes to the “ideal son”.
Teru thinks being an android is a gift, he can’t die and he’s pretty much flawlessly shaped. When he meets Shigeo, he asks why he looks so plain, and it’s revealed it’s because Tsubomi didn’t want anything flashy.
And mostly because Shigeo’s an older model.
Each kid (except for Teru) had an actual defect to their system. Gou has somehow obtained a built in lighter function, which isn’t suppose to be there. Rei has the reconstruct and construct feature for unknown reasons. Takeshi is basically a walking magnet, except he doesn’t really know when it’s turned on or off (when it’s turned on, it’s strong enough to accidentally pull all the others towards him and it gets pretty annoying). Daichi and Kaito’s memory cloud keeps syncing with one another, which disrupts them from being able to remember the right things correctly (i.e Daichi gets Kaito’s memories and believes they are his own and vice versa).
The only reason they’re still stuck here is because they come from middle class families (except for Teru), so they’re way behind on the waiting list to get repaired.
Shigeo, on the other hand, came from a rich family, so he’d be out in no time. This makes Teru very mad, he states it isn’t fair that Shigeo gets to be let out sooner than them even though he just got here.
He tries to attack, but unfortunately for him, they’ve installed a software that prevents Teru from being able to kick and punch. Like a parental lock sorta? The same has been done to Shigeo.
Shigeo only makes Teru even more mad when he says he wishes he was human. If he wasn’t human, none of this would’ve happened, “Teru, if you were human, you wouldn’t be right here y’know? Your mom wouldn’t need to send a real human boy for repairs.”
And Teru is pissed because he knows Shigeo’s right.
But being the cunning bitch he is, he smiles and pretends to accept Shigeo’s opinion, and he asks for a hug. Shigeo happily agrees and let’s Teru wrap an arm around him.
Then Teru squeezes.
“Teru, I can’t, you’re crushing- I can’t--”
“Oh, I know. If I break you enough, you’ll have to stay here with us even longer.”
Shigeo tries to retaliate, but due to the software, he’s unable to kick himself free. The rest tries to intervene, but Teru threatens them to stay back or he’ll squeeze harder.
“Can a human do this? Shigeo? Can they?”
Shigeo manages to break through the system and finally breaks free, he’s back in his aggressive mode and actually starts attacking.
He takes it too far when he rips Teru heart out.
Everyone is screaming at this point and Reigen’s rushing towards the cell like mad. Serizawa is there too, because he wanted to visit Shigeo to see how he’s doing.
“Why are you running?”
“Something bad is happening, I need to be there- Woah there buddy!” Serizawa picks Reigen up and surprises him. Then the android fucking bolts.
When Reigen finally reaches the cell and enters, he finds Shigeo on the ground, bleeding out once again, and Teru staring motionlessly at Shigeo.
“He...gave me his heart.”
Shigeo is sent to be repaired again and this time, he’s kept in a separate cell, because no one knows how he managed to break through their system. It’s almost impossible for a child -and not to mention an OLD- model to be able to do that.
While Reigen’s thinking in his office, cue Mitsuura, who says it’d be a shame for all those child models to lose their cool abilities. He jokes about just creating a child model meant to possess those abilities, like a tiny cop or something.
Cue Suzuki, no no, the other Suzuki. Mommy Suzuki. Except she’s a single lady who surrounds herself with Touichirou, the first ever android model made. That’s right, she’s head of Cyberlife.
She comes in, because she can’t sit still, and says, “Not a bad idea, man.”
Mitsuura has a fit and thanks the woman.
“So, about that old model that broke my parental control lock?” She turns to Reigen and he huffs, shrugging.
“I really don’t know, ma’am.”
She hums, definitely interested. Unlike the OG DBH, in this AU, they’re more lenient in the deviancy of androids because Suzuki believes they can have rights too. Except they don’t need to get paid, unless they want to? Honestly my idea for that aspect is low key fuzzy.
So anyways, Suzuki remembers Mitsuura’s idea and basically starts sketching out the draft. Cue Shou, who doesn’t exist yet but he’s in the making.
“Can you take the extra components of those child androids and keep them somewhere for later use? I’ll be needing them.”
“Ma’am, those androids are at the back of the waiting list, we can’t just--”
“Just do it.”
Cue Roshuuto, who seriously believes they should just kill Shigeo. “He’s too dangerous” blah blah blah SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Anyways, Reigen doesn’t want to do that because a) android or not, that’s a kid and b) You can’t make that decision and neither can I. Only Suzuki can.
Roshuuto sorta frowns, because everyone knows Suzuki plays favorites; and that favorite is Reigen. He’s the reason why Touichi now has a bit of sentience, before that android was pretty ruthless.
So if Reigen personally doesn’t want to get rid of Shigeo, then Suzuki would say the same too.
Meanwhile, Teru has been showing signs of positive improvement in attitude, there’s a speculation it might’ve been because Teru now has Shigeo’s heart, but that’s just dumb. That kid believes he just killed another android and he’s not sure how he feels about it, so he decides the least thing he could do was to be a better android.
Since Shigeo doesn’t share the same cell as them and nobody told them Shigeo survived, everyone in the playroom thinks Shigeo is dead.
Teru gets sent back after that, and the rest of the kids got their needed repairs.
Meanwhile, Shigeo and Reigen has daily consultation sessions, where they try to find the source of Shigeo’s issues. It takes about a month and Reigen hands Shigeo his cellphone number, saying if Shigeo ever needed him, Reigen would be there.
Shigeo gets sent back to the Takane’s family, because if he doesn’t, Tsubomi will throw a fit. She doesn’t do it often, but when she does, it’s ugly. It’s not like she’s spoiled, but when she strongly and firmly wants something, she’s determined enough to get it.
Originally, Ritsu was meant to be a direct replacement of Shigeo. He even had the bowl cut and everything, but Tsubomi’s intelligent and manages to figure out Ritsu’s a fake. She doesn’t get mad at him though, he doesn’t deserve it, instead she just befriends him too. Ritsu becomes a whole new person he wants to be, even mussed up his hair to look different.
So Shigeo meets Ritsu for the first time, and he’s sorta confused and upset, but Tsubomi got attached to Ritsu as well and refuses to leave him. Ritsu says he’s glad to finally meet Shigeo, because he has heard so much about him, and Shigeo decides he could like Ritsu.
I kinda stop making ideas from here, but I had a rough idea what happens next. Teru and Shigeo do meet again at some point, and Ritsu does meet Shou at some point too.
There will be background Serirei, and Shigeo does eventually grow a crush on Tsubomi and confession and oh no it went wrong. I think that’s when Shou makes his first appearance?
Because they think a child can calm another child down. It doesn’t work.
Nobody realizes Reigen’s probably the only thing that can help until the very very last minute.
So anyways, that’s the end of it. I don’t know what to do with this idea because now that I’ve spilled them all on the table, I kinda feel like writing it now. Though I already have two other projects planned, one being Nap’s birthday gift fic and another being a secret project that features Ritshou and amnesia, so it might be delayed to maybe June :(
