The Legacy of Genius Built Industries: Exclusive Interview with Othello Von Ryan

Year after year, Genius Built Industries captures the world's attention as they roll out neigh-fantastical devices and systems dedicated to making all our lives a little bit better.

This time, instead of an industry-shaking tech development, the thing that has eyes turning towards GBI is a personal change: the first public appearance of real-life giant and part-time superhero Othello Von Ryan's children.

I've been invited back into Von Ryan's lab for and exclusive interview with their small family.

Von Ryan's personal lab is just as i remember it - perfectly organized and violently purple - but now it's a little more crowded.

For now, Von Ryan has put away the projects to give their attention to their equally purple children.

S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. - just as tall as Von Ryan themself - leans away from his insistent parent, armed with a spray bottle and a cloth and attempting to wipe down the screen that makes up the bottom half of his face. On Von Ryan's other side, P.S.D.D. kicks zir legs and laughs at zir brother.

This doesn't last long, as zir eye is next. When they're done, both teens are shiny and irritated.

And yes, Othello Von Ryan's children do - to the best of my knowledge - seem to be hyper-intelligent robots.

Johnson:

I know you hate beating around the bush, so I'm just going to say it: your kids are androids.

Othello Von Ryan:

Friendly laugh. It would seem so.

J:

You must admit, it's a little surprising, especially considering your previous comments on artificial intelligence. That, and your history of forging your own path against the usual hype-based trends of the tech industry.

(S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. and P.S.D.D. both seem to cringe at the comparison. Von Ryan quite literally turns their nose up.)

OVR:

Scoff! My children are nothing like what my competitors would call "artificial intelligence"! Their version is nothing more than an overhyped word scrambler with illusions of grandeur! A parrot residing within a thin-walled apartment complex could do a better job.

Additionally, I created Shelly and D.D. when I was in my teens. The "tech industry" is stuck chasing my tail, as always.

J:

Really? That long ago? A.I. as we know it today was only just gaining popularity! Why not re-create a version for the consumer market?

S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N.:

We were accidents.

OVR:

(Very clearly embarrassed)

No, that doesn't sound like me.

S:

I was a glorified roomba, Pops.

OVR:

You could do much more than a mere roomba!

I was a bed!

Weird rottmnt and dc crossover idea 1

Ok so i haven’t seen meany of these and i think that's a shame so in this one the justice league doesn’t know the real ages of the turtles and they are only really slightly connected to them, they have there contact info just in case but that’s about it. Through the grapevine they here that one of them has children. Recently young justice or teen titans was founded and they are looking for more recruits. A drone a bed and a (reformed) animatronic bear walk into mt justice/the other one enter shenanigans

This is what I meant with the racecar thing. Forgot to put the reasons I chose each turtle. Even if some were just flimsy or barely had any there were reasons.

To make it fun and more challenging I wanted one turtle from each dimension, but never repeated the turtle. There had to be at least one type of connection.

87 Leo being Raph:

A. Trench coat. I had to pick an 87 turtle for that alone.

B. The way Raph reacts to Mrs. Cuddles reminds me of 87 Leo and his fear of snakes.

C. Would see him being the leader as the natural option even though Leo as the leader would also make sense to him.

D. The catchphrases. While not as often as in the crossovers (Turtles Forever why did you do my 87 boys dirty like that?) he does have the "Turtles fight with honor" and "Turtle power".

E. It did amuse me how much he seemed to like being "violent" in the 2012 crossover episode. It also fits well with Rise Raph who likes to smash things.

Bayverse Donnie being Mikey:

A. Trying to get Raph to let him do things/giving him a heart attack. Bayverse Donnie asking to be let be the badass for once and jumping out a plane, Rise Mikey's wanting to go on his first solo mission.

B. Big turtle being a small turtle is hilarious to me.

C. Dr. Feelings. He's a smart turtle still, even if it's not being used for tech or science. I fully believe he's an actual Doctor and is still essential to his family's functioning. Him wearing glasses.

12 Raph being Donnie:

A. Training animals.

B. Emotionally adopting things. 12 Raph with Spike/Slash and Chompy, and Rise Donnie with Shelldon and the PSDD from the sentient bed mini-episode.

C. Violence is the answer.

Extras I realized later:

D. Purple turtle son with fire! (Let's not ignore Shelldon sounding like 12 Mikey either)

E. Rise Donnie talking to Rise Splinter and mentioning if he was a tiger. Very specific animal for that voice.

F. Rise Donnie believes in Big Foot, who is not only real in the 12 universe, but Raph has met. Also that pizza with a face is a thing in the 12 series.

G. Looking at 12 Mona, I say "cute but mean" type.

H. Some of this implies that Rise Donnie either remembers some of who he used to be, who he really is, or follows his instincts a lot more than we thought and they're telling him things like "this is right" or " this is supposed to be this way".

03 Mikey being Leo:

A. Since Rise Donnie is a Raph and Leo likes messing with him, he's required by law to be a Mikey

B Battle Nexus Champion.

C. The number of crimes 03 Mikey has committed and Rise Leo having a wanted poster.

Extras I realized later:

D. Lose their arm in an apocalypse scenario.

E. Ends up going over the side of a building and is saved by a Raph.

I am far more optimized for security and risk assessment than SHELLDON, and unlike you two I am unimpressed by most humans, so I can accurately evaluate their threat levels!

i designed psdd (from the short "Sentient Bed") today (and a turtle-oid shelldon while i was on a roll), and was inspired to do something with them immediately. Zir "shoes" are filled with jelly and sparkles, like those shoes.

god no, mot evem whem i made the first egg comic.

most people hate child ocs (and i wasn't particularly interested either), so I never planned on making lena a character. This was just an ask that ballooned out of control. seriously. Every single part of jesus egg except for "baby fever" happened directly because of you guys. Yall kept asking questions and loving her and making me want to love and know more about her too! So uh. Thank you!

I feel so unbelievably bad for Donnie and his robo kids now like I’m going to legit cry

i have several unorganized thoughts about splinter as a grandparent to donnie's unconventional children, mostly boiling down to: he means well.

I was nicer about it in the "Splinter finds out about The Eggs" comic, but I lean more towards the belief that he was a B-plus parent at best (even if he's doing better now) so Donnie's reaction wasn't totally unfounded.

Something else I think would be fun would be to have the Rise turtles keep the scars and stuff like that they got while in the Rise dimension. I wanted to include Rise Donnie getting some scars from shredder swiping at his back. So 12 Raph has grooves from the Shredder's claws and odd bumps and ridges from the technodrome tendrils crawling under his shell.

87 Leo down an eye and now has a hole in his shell.

03 Mikey is kind is messed up from the prison dimension. Shell still cracked and healing with the help of a prosthetic 12 Raph made. His left knee has a brace to help with the pain. The others just missed Rise Leo getting the wire taken out of his jaw by a few weeks.

Bayverse Donnie has scars and nerve damage in his arms from opening the portal. He now mostly relies on an arm pack 12 Raph made for him for his more delicate projects while Draxum helps heal his arms.

Speaking of Draxum, I also want the Rise turtles to take some of the other Rise characters with them when they return to their original dimensions.

87 Leo taking Buddy, his Franken foot sparring partner.

Bayverse Donnie taking Draxum because he spent too much time on that man's redemption arc to just give him up. Not to mention Draxum still needs to help heal his arms.

03 Mikey taking Casey Jr because… well the kid just refuses to lose him again no matter what form, especially with him going to another dimension, and won't let go. How are you so strong!?

12 Raph taking Shelldon, of course, his other son the PSDD, and Rise Splinter.

I'm going to be completely honest, with how much 12 Splinter died or was believed to be dead and came back I honestly can't remember if he was dead or alive at the end of the series. Schrödinger's Splinter. If he's dead, 12 Leo didn't have to grow up too soon. if he's not, they have a backup for what will probably be a next time.

Seeing as Rise Mikey is the only one there he'd probably be the one to save it, pulling the statue out of the way of the attack at the last second. This means Mikey would likely be the one taking it home. Putting the cute statue on a shelf in his room or something.

Meanwhile, Donnie would be acting weird about the statue, and Mikey couldn't understand why. It can't be because Mikey stole it. After all, Donnie steals stuff all the time. He just kind of keeps wandering into Mikey's room and staring at it. It's kind of unnerving, and not in Donnie's usually mad scientist way.

Eventually, Mikey asks Donnie if he wants it because "he's redecorating and it doesn't go with the new style." Donnie happily agrees and the next day Donnie is back to normal. Well, normal for Donnie. If he wanted the statue so bad he could have just asked.

Mikey was just letting himself relax when he opened the freezer… and saw the statue. Mikey is almost afraid to but asks why the statue is in the freezer. Donnie looks at him like he's asked something that should be obvious. She's an ice cream cat, of course, she belongs in the freezer.

'She?' You know what? Sure. If it means Mikey doesn't have to deal with whatever that was again, the statue can stay in the freezer. Just make sure she doesn't block the food. Mikey squints suspiciously. Or eats any of it.

Being inside a giant metal box might protect it from being destroyed.

You know what else is fun? 12 Raph losing more family members to a Shredder. One that has 12 Splinter's voice no less. This boy is going to be so messed up, physically, mentally, and emotionally when he gets home.
