I honestly like this ship but not a whole lot. Just a little. To me they would seem like close buddies.

Gonna have to agree with anon, Magochilly is big, notably because it has some solid basis in the mangas, which are not often mined for inspo in AO3 fics. Metalor also doesn't strike me as a rarepair, it was the second Magolor ship I ever heard about.

I'd venture to say that fanfiction is one of the LEAST accurate measurements of shipping in the Kirby fandom in specific, not least because I feel like the most sustained Kirby shipping activity has historically happened in the Japanese fandom I feel? It's definitely picked up in the West since 2017ish but before that my fandom experience is sparser because I was young

I didn't get to the initial poll of those submissions but I'd love to weigh in on any future ones

magochilly is popular on twt and morphogala is a common ship for morpho. (drawn often from popular artists) neither of these are rarepairs in my opinion. basing ship popularity on fanfic is okay but it isnt always accurate? u can always see on tumblr tags or twt to see how many people draw the ship or talk abt it.

Well, yes! That's why there was a question poll as to whether or not anyone considers them rare. I do not, personally, but I am not going to immediately discount any submissions if they fit the guidelines!

i don't use twitter, unfortunately, so I cannot check there, but I do use Pixiv, and I have checked some tags, and I witness discussion across a wide audience of different Kirby Discord servers. Hence asking for wider opinion!

For reference, both were considered non-rare pairings in the first set of polls!
