When it comes to uploading, should I worry so much about how long it’s taking me to write one story?

Everyone’s process is different. If you mean in terms of uploading as in how often you’re posting to your blog, it depends. You do tend to acquire more readers when you’re consistent, but sometimes its difficult to be consistent. 

It took me 9 months to complete The Boy King, and although it doesn’t have as many notes as some of my other works, its by-far my most popular story with the most constant, enthusiastic feedback, and I think that’s because I really cared about that story and took my time making it as best as I could.

At the end of the day, you do this for free because you love it, right? Nothing will make you resent something you love more than when you feel like you have to do it. So if its taking you longer than usual, don’t sweat it :)

Before posting a fic, do you ever read your own fic to yourself and think that it may end up being a bad one? And then you go through the thought of giving up? I felt that way yesterday with one of mine and I'm coming to ask for a fraction of advice. If you could grant me a piece of mind. Would that be enough? 🙏🏻

It certainly happens. There are requests I get and when I write them I feel like its not as strong as it could have been, but I also don’t want to spend forever working on something and making people wait, so its a difficult balance. The “giving up” aspect doesn’t happen to me much anymore and I’ll tell you why.

Some writing advice in general that I’ve learned is that you have to learn to be okay with writing something shitty, because it happens to every writer. We all write “shitty first drafts”, this was a phrase that got used OFTEN in my writing classes in college,(if you google it, you’ll come across tons of resources from other writers) it was just a fact of life, we all had to get comfortable with the idea that nothing you write will be perfect and that it takes concentrated effort to make a story great. No one, not even professionals, just slap down some amazing work on the first try.

So when you write something and read through it, tell yourself this is your shitty first draft. This is just you getting out the story that needs to get out, and then you can go back through and add texture to make it better. It also helps immensely to put your writing away for a little while and come back to it later. You’ll be surprised how you feel about it after you’ve let it simmer.

As a writer, what are some of the things that made you push through the "give up" phase. I felt that way yesterday with one of the fanfics I'm currently writing, so I'm coming to you for a bit of advice. Please 🙏🏻😗

Hi! There were so many times I almost gave up, but one of the main reasons I pushed through was because I wanted to do justice to my characters? This might sound so dumb, but whenever I start a fic and assign this made up life for the character, I kinda want them to experience whatever plan I had in my mind sehfjhjff i probably sound dumb rn gosH

Just take a break love, it helps alot. This is also a normal way of overcoming unlike the reason above lmao. I’ve been on break for 84 years now gghhgff
