the wilds would've been better if gretchen were like. smarter or somehow less ethical. the only way the show would still happen if she were smarter is if she were also less ethical. but also how do you get less ethical than dropping a bunch of kids on deserted islands and making them think their planes crashed to study them like bugs.
#txt#i just... i mean i get that she is convinced she's right and thinks she's doing a good thing and iirc she rly#seemed to want recognition etc!#and it's realistic characterization to a point!#but also i wish she were just kinda evil honestly like her experiment premise had some other hypothesis that would#make the consequences more worth it to her or make her more realistically understand the world wouldn't#be ready for this and still may not be ready for it afterward but that doesn't matter to her because it's about what the study means to Her#or something idk ! but then it's hard to get that many people on board. maybe in that scenario she would've been lying about it then#idk i know it had to be like this for her to be convinced the kids would just be so grateful about this they wouldn't rat her out#and then it all spiraled beyond her control and i guess it was unethical to just LEAVE.#she just like. lost the intrigue once she started realizing she fucked up and i wish she had leaned more into not caring about#having a more realistic grasp on the consequences but not caring about them bc of what she's getting out of this#post brought to you by how often i have to see people talk abt the wilds being better than yj with a surreal amount of confidence#like they're both on a suspension of disbelief system but they could've done better with it in the wilds imo#and also the wilds was not very good.#i guess the issue with gretchen losing it toward the end is... for her to have believed this would go well in the first place#that she invested this much money into it and this much risk#i feel like she would've been more convincing to have been the kinda person to do this in the first place#if she also were not so breakable about it going wrong#then again she's a rich egotistical white woman so yeah. it's fine idk. she was just soooo hot before she was like 'oops nvm!'#rip to that assistant girl of hers i hope they at least got to fuck before she died

Cabin at the lake (2)
Summary: You have a much-needed vacation. There’s only one problem…
Pairing: Soldier Boy x Assistant!Reader

A/N: Another drabble.
Cabin at the lake (1)
Cabin at the lake masterlist
While you are still fuming, Soldier Boy cocks his head and yawns loudly. If you didn’t mishear, he farted in your company too. Well, at least you’re outside; the fresh air will help you.
“Didn’t you forget something, sweetness?” Soldier Boy blinks his eyes open to look at you with these piercing green eyes.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” you huff and cross your arms over your chest. If he hijacks your vacation, he can eat shit. You won’t follow his orders within the next fourteen days. “I guess you forgot that I’m still on vacation.”
“You don’t get to just go on vacation while people out there need me,” Soldier Boy huffs. “You shouldn’t be so selfish, Y/N. What’d people think about you, hearing you go on a vacation while everyone out there suffers.”
You square your jaw. This man is the epitome of selfishness.
“You are the hero, not me,” you say instead of everything burning your tongue. “I’m a mere employee, getting your coffee and sending your one-nighters home. You cannot expect me to be around three hundred sixty-five days a year.”
“Three-hundred sixty-six days this year,” he grins at you. “Now, get me my omelet. I’m hungry. And you better not forget the good stuff. I need something to smoke and a drink.”
“I do not smoke,” you snap at your boss. “I hope you don’t expect me to have drugs at my cabin either.”
“I know you are a bad girl hiding the good stuff from me,” Soldier Boy suddenly jumps up to stalk toward you. “I’ll go for a swim. When I get out, I want that omelet, sweetness. If I do not smell eggs soon, you will not sit properly for a week.”
“You’ve got to be shitt—” Your words die in your throat watching Soldier Boy get out of his suit. He smirks when you open your mouth, but no words come out. He’s shamelessly walking around naked. “What are you doing? You’ll scare the fishes.”
“Well then, I’ll catch a few and you can cook them for me,” he turns around to show you his naked ass. “I still want the eggs, though.”
“You’ve got two dangling between your legs. How about you eat them.” You chuckle at your stupid joke. “I won’t cook for you. You better leave my ground.” You turn around and stalk toward the cabin.
If he won’t leave, you’ll simply lock him out.
“I heard that!” He calls after you. “Yeah, that’s a good girl. Going inside to cook for her man.”
You stop in your tracks to turn around and give him the finger. “Fuck. YOU!”
Storming inside your cabin you slam the door shut, locking it. If you would’ve thought this through, you’d remember that he’d simply burst the door open. Right now, you are too angry and pissed to even think straight.
“He can’t just come here and ruin my vacation!”
You hear a loud bang, wood splits and the door falls to the ground with a loud thud. Now seconds later, Soldier Boy casually walks inside your cabin, still naked. He carries the door he ripped out of its angles tugged under his arm.
“Fuck, the water is perfect,” he drops the door to the ground, making you flinch. “Did you believe for one second this will keep me out?” He furrows his brows while searching your face.
“I had hoped you’ve got some decency left and won’t go any further,” you throw your hands up. “I can’t believe you came here to order me around during my well-deserved vacation.”
“Well-deserved?” He snickers. “You’d only ever deserve vacation if you sucked my dick good. Getting me coffee and shit doesn’t make you a good employee.”
“You are so…infuriating!” You throw your teacup at him. He laughs when it hits him right in the chest, only to fall to the ground. “I wish I could just throw you out of my life…wait…” You suddenly realize there is a way to get rid of him. “I quit.”
You suddenly can breathe again. You’re giddy and jump up and down. Even though you’ve got no job any longer, you feel much better.
“Now get off my lawn.”
“Hah, that’s even better,” Soldier Boy stalks toward you with a big grin on his face. “Now HR won’t go after my balls when I ruin your sweet cunt…”

Another shitty day in Hell, you think to yourself, coming home from the shit job you held at the news station. You’d think Katie Killjoy could get her own fucking coffee and fetch her own scripts from the producers but no- she needed you to do it so she could spew shit down your throat when her day wasn’t perfect. Which, you know, it was Hell- every day was shit.
You collapse back onto your bed, limbs tense and head pounding. Katie just never shut the fuck up and her shrill voice sounded like a dentist drill in your head. You’d kill a man to be able to relax- it wouldn’t be the worst thing you had done in Hell. But it had been a long time since you had done anything like that; not since Alastor had disappeared.
Alastor. Even now, thinking his name brings a pulsing heat to your core.
In hindsight, of course, trading your soul to the Radio Demon for your boyfriend’s to be free had been stupid. So, so stupid, and you realized it as soon as the bastard had broken up with you to fuck off to another area of Pentagram City. Leaving you and your soul in the clutches of one of the most dangerous Overlords that Hell had ever seen. Your job was simple at least- you spent time with Alastor in Cannibal Town almost as an assistant for a while, managing his schedule (when he could be bothered to follow it), checking in on other souls he owned (when he cared enough to check on them), and just generally being at his beck and call.
You were perhaps the tiniest bit infatuated with him at the time. You did whatever he asked of you- his tasks and errands, his housework, the organization of his radio studio when he got too into ripping someone apart. It wasn’t long until he was asking you to assist him with the deed, pushing a blade of angelic steel into your hands and guiding you towards a rapidly beating heart.
The way he had said “good girl” that day lived inside your head, would twist wickedly around your thoughts when you were trying to focus on anything.
It did now as well, and despite the fact that you hadn’t seen the demon in seven years- having just up and vanished one day- it still held the same power. Your heart raced, cheeks flushed, and you could feel yourself growing damp between your legs at the thought. You didn’t allow yourself to indulge in the memories often, but today felt like an especially shitty one. You think you could be forgiven thinking inappropriately about your old boss long enough to get a quick orgasm in before passing out for the day.
With a quick glance to the window, just to make sure the curtains were drawn, you slide your fingers under the band of your panties and run your fingers through the slickness that you find, gently circling a finger over your clit and huffing out an exhale at the sensation. Thinking of Alastor never failed to make you a mess, pleasure curling in your brain and your gut. It was a wonder you had managed to work for him so long without trying to make a move but he had always seemed so uninterested in anyone else when they tried. You wouldn’t imagine that you were special enough to change his stance on that, but your imagination wasn’t hurting anyone.
You shift on the bed, raising your hips up far enough to slide your bottoms off and shove them to the side. You freeze when you hear something that sounds like a creaking door, but brush it off as something from a lower floor, bringing your other hand under the covers.
One rubbing lightly at your clit you let your other hand reach further, slipping first one finger and then a second into the wet warmth of your pussy. You whimper and close your eyes, wishing that your fingers were longer, wishing someone else was at the other end of them and causing the stretch.
“Good girl.”Alastor’s voice slithers like a tendril through your mind, and you can’t help the groan that tumbles from your lips in the darkness of the night. “Alastor,” you breathe out, indulging yourself, the sound barely audible. It’s going to be over too quickly but you’re too wound up to care, the thought of the Radio Demon alone threatening to send you hurtling over that edge.
“Yes, darling?”
You yelp at the shock of his voice, not just in your head but echoing in the room. Eyes flying open, impending orgasm fading, you see his eyes glowing in the darkness of a corner, his grin coming into view as he steps into the faint light of your bedside lamp. “A-Alastor. What are you doing here?”
He had been gone for seven years. What were the chances he would show up here? Now?
“Can an Overlord not simply pop into the home of a soul in their possession when they choose?” He steps closer, head cocked to one side as he looks at you, and you realize that your hands are still fucking touching yourself and you rip them out from under the blanket. “I must say, this is quite the welcome home.”
“I- I didn’t-” He crouches at the end of the bed and your brain stops working for a moment. “I obviously wasn’t expecting you-”
“Hmm, that doesn’t sound quite like the truth! You said my name, did you not?” When you falter his grin widens, reaching a hand out and snatching the blanket away, exposing your bare skin to the room. “My my, what do we have here?”
“Oh god- Alastor, I’m so sorry,” you say, and try to scramble up the bed away from him before he wraps a hand around your ankle and yanks you back down. Your heart is pounding, threatening to beat straight out of your chest with the look that he’s giving you.
He gives a hum of acknowledgment. “There’s nothing to be sorry for, darling,” he murmurs, trailing his fingers up your leg to settle on your thigh. “Except, perhaps, starting without me. Do tell, did you miss me terribly while I was gone?”
You open your mouth to speak and all that can escape is a choked out moan when he slicks his fingers through the wetness he finds between your thighs. “That’s not quite an answer but I suppose it can be forgiven.” Miraculously blunt, he presses a digit into you, followed quickly by another as he shifts so he’s crouched above you, face a mere breath away from yours.
“A- Alastor, fuck,” you manage to gasp out. “Where have you been?” It should be the farthest thing from your mind when he’s got those dexterous fingers inside you, stretching and preparing you for something more if the bulge in his trousers is anything to go by.
Alastor shrugs, “oh you know, just here and there. Doing a bit of this and that.” Eyes lidded he takes in your form beneath him. “Nothing quite so interesting as what I’ve stumbled onto here.” His free hand fumbles with his belt buckle, the clinking of metal drawing your eyes to his exposed erection in his fist. “Won’t you show me how you’ve missed me?”
In answer you lift a leg to wrap around his waist, delighting in his dark chuckle and throwing your head back with a groan when he growls “good girl” against your throat.
He lines himself up with your heat and pushes in slowly, giving you time to adjust; once he’s reached the hilt he braces his hands on your headboard and pulls back, slamming back forward with a vigor you’ve only ever seen from him in his studio. You cling to his back, fingers gripping the fabric of his shirt in a desperate bid to get closer.
Alastor leans down far enough to lick into your mouth, sharp teeth nipping at the sensitive skin of your lips. You bite back in retaliation, perhaps a bit too hard in your eagerness and confusion at the situation- his lip splits and you taste the metallic tang. He pulls back for a moment, manic grin on his face in spite of the bead of blood welling on his mouth. He releases the headboard and shifts, one hand twisting up into your hair and dragging your head up to meet his. The other slides between your bodies, thumb grinding into your clit and the rest of his claws gripping your hips where he could reach them.
You had already been so close to orgasm by the time he turned up- the pressure on your clit and the feeling of him inside you, his hands gripping at your body and head while he kissed you and railed himself inside you. You tear your mouth away from his to gasp his name, winding a hand up into his locks as well and striking against something hard.
Your body is shaking with the attempt to hold back, trailing your fingers to the base of his antlers and giving a soft squeeze.
He groans into your mouth, a broken sound. “Do you mean to make me spend myself already, darling?” He drops your head back onto the pillows, licks down the column of your throat while pulling your other leg up around his hip to press closer to you, deeper. “We’ve hardly begun! I thought you missed me- you’d wish it over so quickly?”
“God, Alastor,” you whimper, and his thumb increases its speed, pressing you into the mattress and digging his fingers into your skin. The release is so close, your legs tensed around the demon’s middle, fingers shaking where they grasp at him. “Fuck-”
“I’d prefer to take my time with you, but I suppose there’s nothing to be done for it if you’ve yearned for me so.” He redoubles his efforts, pounding into your tight heat while you moan and quake around him. A particularly hard thrust has him glancing off that sweet spot inside of you, and combined with his efforts on your clit you’re breaking, everything inside of you clenching and releasing in a rhythm that has him snarling into the skin of your neck.
“I can feel how much you missed me,” he hisses in your ear. “So responsive and greedy in how your body pulls me in- wishes for me to release myself within the grip of your body, to fill you with me.” Another hard thrust and you whine into his hair, grip still tight on his antlers. “Is that what you wish? To be filled? Marked as mine not just in soul but body?”
Your voice trembles out of you, “god, Alastor, yes.”
“There will be no part of you that I have not touched,” he growls, and post orgasm you gasp at the sensation of tightening around him involuntarily. “All of you will be mine- mine-”
Alastor reaches orgasm with a broken cry, clutching your body to his as tightly as he can while spilling inside of you, tensing walls seeming to be trying to pull him deeper despite being buried to the hilt already. He bites you in the moment, a push of teeth into the skin of your shoulder just under your shirt, sucking and running his tongue over the mark as he pulls back.
He leans back far enough for you to see his face again, crimson eyes lidded and smile dangerous. There’s blood on his lips, from where you had bit his and from sinking his fangs into you as he went over the precipice of pleasure. Finally he releases his grip on you.
You collapse back into the pillows, sated and exhausted, while Alastor stands from the bed and situates himself, dragging his thumb across the bite you had left on his lip and smearing the blood across the pad of the digit. He sucks it into his mouth with a crooked smirk. “Well, this was quite the enjoyable detour, darling!”
“Detour?” You sit up against the pillows again. “You’re not staying?”
“I’m afraid not- but don’t worry your pretty little head about it! Neither are you!” He snaps his fingers and your bottoms are back on your body, Alastor holding a hand out to you and hoisting you up from the mattress. He takes a moment to pat your head, smoothing down the stray hairs that had escaped your ponytail from your combined efforts before he bangs his cane on the ground.
“I am?” You look around your apartment. “But- I have a job? And my apartment, who will water my plants?”
“We’ll bring your plants with us! Do you truly care about such trivial matters when you’ll be with me?” A claw tipped finger under the chin, he makes you look up at him. “That’s what you’ve wanted all this time, yes? So help me with this little project I’m working on.”
The floor opens below you, Alastor throwing an arm around your shoulders as you shift into the shadows and reemerge in some kind of lobby.
“What the f-”
“Salutations, everyone! This is one of my associates- I’m happy to offer her services! Please feel free to use her as you see fit, Charlie- she’s quite eager to please.”
“Oh my gosh, HI!” The Princess of Hell steps forward- you recognize her from her interview at the news station a week ago, Katie hadn’t stopped bitching for hours after that shitshow. She violently shakes your hand and arm before the shorter woman, her little one-eyed girlfriend, forcibly pulls her away from you. “I have SOOOOO many ideas for what you can help out with- do you have any experience with cooking? How about cleaning? Maybe Niffty could use some help-” Charlie reaches back and grabs your arm, dragging you away from Alastor who gives you a little wave before slinking back into the shadows.
You spot Husk behind the counter of a bar, Angel Dust of all people draped across it with his head dropped into his arms. The cat lifts an eyebrow at you, another one of Alastor’s souls apparently roped into helping with this ‘project,’ and raises his glass in acknowledgment. A healthy amount of fear and anticipation fills you- you would be working with Alastor again, which would be a nice change of pace from the news station. But when Katie found out her little assistant was going to working with the young woman who made a mockery of her live on television she was going to be pissed.

what happened the first time Wes tried to crack open the Danny is Phantom conspiracy did he like, confront Danny first or was it all behind his back like, maybe hoping ground zero would be lost among the gossip and that Danny wouldn't find out who spilled the beans once everyone knew
I mean it obviously wouldn't work because nobody believed him and the gossip didn't take off very far beyond a few people talking about Wes being kinda weird
I should absolutely write a fic about this.
I am absolutely going to write a fic about this.
I AM RIGHT NOW GOING TO WRITE A FIC ABOUT THIS.
----
"Hey Fenton! Fenton!!" Dash came bounding over and threw a meaty arm around his shoulder.
"Jesus Dash! What?!" Danny buckled under the weight (pretended to anyway) as Dash gave him a surprisingly lighthearted punch on the arm.
"You haven't heard?! Wes has this total batshit insane theory, it's hilarious!"
Dash was in a genuine giggle-fit, Danny didn't think he'd ever seen him this merry, he was also starting to suspect he was going to leave this conversation being the butt of the joke somehow. Wait-
"Wes? Who the heck is Wes?" Danny asked, it wasn't like he knew everyone in school, like Dash seemed to.
"He's on the basketball team, you know, tall guy, red hair, threw a sick move at least month's game! You know, WES!"
"I didn't watch that game."
"Oh," said Dash, flatly, "Oh yeah, almost forgot you're a total nerd. Anyway, like I was saying!"
Dash grabbed Danny by the shoulders and nearly lifted him off the floor.
"Wes thinks," he could barely speak through his giggling, he even snorted a few times, "Wes thinks your secretly PHANTOM."
Dash dropped Danny back down as he doubled over laughing.
"Could you imagine?! You! You're not even DEAD!" Dash honest to god slapped his knee in mirth.
Danny went through an incredibly swift array of emotions in the span of about five seconds.
The first was fear, clear and bracing, then came confusion, how did he know? Had he seen something? Then there was hope, Dash didn't believe it, and if DASH didn't believe it, maybe nobody else believed it either. Then relief, he could roll with this, he could TOTALLY roll with this! Dash was right! It was absurd, it was ridiculous, it was hilarious, him being Phantom? What utter nonsense!
Sam and Tucker had been standing by his side at a Dash-safe distance, looking absolutely horrified. Sam looked ready to jump in and lay down a swift defence, but Danny gave a quick little low wave for her to stand down. He got this.
"Oh my god SERIOUSLY?" Danny busted out a slightly hysterical laugh, okay so he wasn't completely over the initial terrified anxiety.
"How could I- I mean what- WHY does he think I'M Phantom?! I mean how does that even work I don't-"
Dash clapped him on the shoulder, this was probably the most contact he'd ever had with him without being physically assaulted.
"I know right?! Like apparently he thinks you look alike? And he's all like 'But I've seen his eyes glow green' and 'they're never in the same roo-hoo-hoom." Dash wheezed and started hacking and coughing.
Danny carefully constructed a look of offence.
"Hey I mean, it's not THAT funny. Why couldn't I be Phantom! I know how to use a Fenton Thermos! Look I even HAVE one right-" he torn open his backpack and pulled one out, making sure to fumble it in a terrific display of fuck-uppery and drop it noisily on the cafeteria floor, he dropped to his knees trying to grab it but knocked it under a table.
A few girls standing nearby who'd been listening in started tittering, one of the guys sitting at the table snorted milk through his nose and Dash was just about on the floor in hysterics.
Even Sam and Tucker covered their mouths in an attempt to look like they were holding in laughter. Tucker muttered to Sam, just loud enough for people around to hear.
"I mean, he's our friend and we love him, but god that was painful to watch. He knows he's terrible at ghost hunting! He's got like, nothing but thumbs."
Danny climbed under the table, grabbed at the thermos and lifted it up as he crawled back out.
"See! See! I have a thermos! I could TOTALLY be Phantom!"
Sam walked over and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "It's okay bud, I think you'd be a great Phantom." her voice was thick with her usual sarcasm, soaked in pity though it were.
Danny's ears burned in embarrassment, he might have been humiliating himself on purpose, but it was still humiliating, watching everyone laugh at him for being so weak and incompetent. He was grateful to his friends for pushing through their discomfort and keeping up the act, it was still painful, but it came with a wash of pure unadulterated relief.
Nobody believed this Wes guy, nobody thought it could be even remotely possible. People would talk about it for a little while, have a laugh, maybe there would be a few memes and in-jokes, but eventually it would drop off. People would forget all about it and it would be just another notch on the gossip mill belt.
Even if someone DID believe it, they could never admit it for fear of vicious ridicule, for once in his life peer pressure was his friend.
And then Wes walked in.
Once Danny saw him he realised that he did recognise Wes, he'd seen him hanging around Kwan a few times, and chatting with Star, he was also in Danny's english class. That was about as familiar as he got with the guy, they'd never spoken a word to each other.
Wes had a terrifying expression of seething fury ripping across his face. He was glaring at Dash.
"It's NOT. FUNNY."
Dash was completely unable to stand, it was honestly overkill, Danny almost thought he was hamming it up on purpose, but maybe not, his face was turning an alarming shade of red after all.
"Wes don-" Dash gasped. "Don't do this to me man, I can't brea-" Dash was gasping for air, trying desperately to hold down the giggles.
Danny could almost see steam rising as Wes seethed. Then suddenly that furious stare was shooting daggers straight at him. Danny shrank into himself, looking as small and helpless as he possibly could.
"Uh hey Wes, um, I've heard the news." he joked tacking on a nervous laugh for emphasis. "Uh, soooo," he tossed the thermos from hand to hand, nearly dropping it again. "Is this like, just a joke or do you really-?"
Dash continued to wheeze, Kwan was holding him up by the arm, muttering about getting some water to cool off.
Wes strode over until he and Danny were face to face, he was taller by a good couple inches, even more so with Danny making a conscious effort to appear small.
Wes jabbed a sharp finger into his collarbone.
"Don't think I'm fooled by this pathetic act you've got going on, I am ONTO you, Phantom." he spat.
Danny glanced sidelong at the table beside him, silently begging for assistance, they only watched in silence, strained faces trying not to laugh. A glance the other way to his friends, they simply shrugged.
"Um, okaaay," Danny started backing away slowly. "Uh look Wes I am honestly really flattered but, do we really look that alike?" Danny ran a hand through his hair and then pointed up at Wes. "I mean we BOTH kinda have Phantom's haircut."
Sam deadpanned from the sidelines, "Maybe they're BOTH Phantom."
"We should start marketing that haircut." Tucker muttered to himself, tapping something on his tablet. "We could make a fortune, are you any good at hairdressing?"
Sam shot him a look of disgust and did not dignify the question with a response.
"Don't play dumb you two," said Wes, flipping his focus, "You're definitely in on this!"
The entire cafeteria was awash with giggles by this point. Just about everyone had heard about Wes' theory, but were mostly convinced it was some kinda joke. Now? Now they knew Wes was straight up fucking delusional.
He glanced around as people laughed, at him. At HIM.
"It's not funny!" he yelled over the crowed, the tittering increased in volume. Someone across the room yelled-
"Hey if I get the haircut, can I be Phantom too?"
One of the goths stood up on her seat.
"I've GOT the haircut! Mom says it's MY TURN to be the Phantom!"
There was a fresh round of mirthful laughter, some kids wheezing as hard as Dash had been. Another few kids piped up above the cacophony, throwing jokes of their own.
"I've got a soup thermos so I'm Phantom now, sorry sweaty I don't make the rules."
"If I wear a Phantom shirt does that make me Phantom ALL the time or am I only Phantom when I'm wearing it?"
"I have an ass, Phantom has an ass. Conclusion: I am Phantom's ass."
"Tag yourself I'm the thermos."
"DO THE BUTTS MATCH?"
Wes had been trying to scream over the din, infuriated, desperate to find SOMEONE who would listen.
Danny gave him a pat on the back.
"Hey, if it makes you feel any better, The Guys in White once hunted some guy down because he had white hair, if a government agency can fuck that up then-"
Wes slugged him.
It wasn't a particularly solid punch like Dash's hits, it was quick and precise, Was wasn't a brawny guy, but he was lean and fast and had good aim.
Danny whuffed out a heavy breath as Wes' fist collided with his sternum and he collapsed to the floor.
Everyone in the cafeteria lost their shit, a few people screamed and one table of football jocks all stood up chanting, "FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT."
Tucker ran over to him as Sam stepped up and without hesitation slammed a fist straight into Wes' nose.
The footballers lost their minds, one of the goths stood up on their table screaming "REPRESEEENT!!"
Wes backed up immediately, crying out from the sharp pain blossoming across his face, he'd never been hit before and couldn't pull his thoughts together quick enough to throw a punch back at her, so he was taken by surprise once again as Sam placed a solid roundhouse kick to his stomach.
He had certainly not been expecting that kind of brute strength from her, she had incapacitated him swiftly and effectively, barely having broken a sweat.
One of his teammates hollered over the crowd and came barrelling down on the goth, she dodged without batting an eye and darted nimbly out of the way, giving the guy a quick kick in the pants to throw him off balance as she rocketed for the cafeteria door.
As Wes took a deep breath through his mouth, his nose dripping blood, he realised that Danny and Tucker were gone. The fight had lasted only seconds but Sam had run distraction well enough for the boys to take off without anyone noticing, a glance around showed Tucker supporting Danny about to exit through the cafeteria doors.
The doors opened to an out of breath Mr Lancer on the other side.
"'The Light Fantastic!' WHAT is going on here?!"
Oh they were all so fucked.

Birthday Spankings
Spencer Reid x Female Reader
Summary: A normally shy reader decides to tease Spencer on his birthday thinking she could get away with it. Based on this request
A/N: who am I? Releasing two dom Spencer smut fics in a row 😱 lmao 😂 this is all for MGG’s birthday! Happy birthday to The Gubes 🥳 Actually pretty cool day cause both MGG and Oscar Isaac both actually have the same birthday 🥳 I decided to use this request that I’ve been meaning to write and add it with a bit of a birthday twist!! Thanks for reading and requests are open!!!
Warnings: 18+, Dom!Spencer, Shy reader that acts unexpectedly bratty, Reader wears glasses, Impact play, Degredation, Penetrative sex, Use of the nicknames Doll & Sir
Main Masterlist Word Count: 2.6k
“Hey, birthday boy.” There was no need for me to speak quietly as it was still quite early in the morning, but my default voice was still at a soft volume.
Spencer looked up from the crossword puzzle he had been solving like a race with a soft smile directed at me. He definitely did help me come out of my comfort zone a lot, but whenever he looked at me with softness as if he was adoring me I couldn't help but feel a bit of shyness bubbling up.
I was painfully shy around almost everyone in my life, except Spencer. When I had joined as an assistant technical analyst for Garcia I was in stark contrast to her bright and bubbly demeanor. For a long time I didn’t connect with anyone on the team, just did my job as was described to me and only spoke when I needed to.
The event that had gotten me to come out of my shell a little happened to be when I was reading a book that Spencer had loved. He launched into a full rant about the book that I had barely even started immediately when he saw the cover. When he had realized he’d spoiled the book he had apologized profusely. In a rare moment of bravery I told him he could take me to a bookstore and buy me another book as repayment, albeit with my head hanging low speaking so softly that Spencer had to ask me to repeat myself 3 times. Though, it was really just an excuse to get him to talk again, I loved listening to him talk. Ever since then we had been joined at the hip, even beginning to date two years ago. I often helped him become more grounded in the world he often said and it was quite obvious to everyone around me that Spencer helped my confidence bloom.
I will admit he could be a little possessive as of late though not in a bad way, especially after coming back from prison. But, I was still extremely surprised when he came up behind me subtly in the room while I was making the first cup of coffee for the both of us in the morning and I felt a tap on my ass. He must have finished his crossword puzzle.
I yelped quietly in surprise, it didn’t hurt, it had just been unexpected. I turned to face him with a bemused look on my face quirking my eyebrows up shyly in question. My shy befuddled look was in stark contrast to his smirking face making me peek up and smile a little. At least no one had been around, Spencer was brave just not that brave.
I wasn’t sure what made me a little bit more bold today, maybe I thought I’d get some leeway for brattiness because it was his birthday. Honestly, I don’t know why I thought I could get away with it, it was his birthday after all, not mine. I still decided to push up my glasses a little before speaking smoothly with a little more confidence than normal,
“Isn’t it the tradition that the birthday boy is the one that’s supposed to get the spankings?” Spencer’s face was one of shock at first, not used to a snap back from me. Once he recovered from my unexpected remark a dark look that I almost never saw directed at me came over his face letting me know without any words that I was in for it tonight. I wasn’t going to get my normal soft but dominant boyfriend tonight.
Spencer then confirmed my thoughts when he leaned in closer behind me slightly pushing me into the counter and then whispering into my ear, “ I hope you know what you just got yourself into, Doll.”
His presence then left me to go back to his desk, making sure to grab his sweetened coffee I had been making for him along with mine. Making sure he did make sure to spank my ass one last time, this time much harder than the first. Yeah, I was definitely in for it tonight.
I looked around to make sure that no one had been looking towards the break room, luckily no one had been. My cheeks were hot with residual embarrassment and my heart still pumping loudly with adrenaline from getting the courage to say a sassy sentence to Spencer. I tried to mask my embarrassment by bringing up my own coffee to hide my face which also fogged up my glasses a little. I will admit that the rush I felt when I had finally gained the courage to sass back to Spencer made any punishment I was going to get tonight worth it. I even was slightly looking forward to the birthday spankings I was definitely going to be getting.
——
When work came to a close I was soaked through my panties already in anticipation. Spencer had been casting me looks throughout the rest of the day, it had made me so desperate I had wished I had gotten the courage to make a snarky comment later in the day so I wouldn’t have had to wait for some relief. Though, to be honest I was partially anticipating not being able to have any relief at all tonight by the way Spencer had been looking at me. Even when everyone had been singing happy birthday he had been looking at me as if he was deciding how he was going to take me apart later.
When I got the text at the end of the day that he wanted me to come to his apartment I felt myself get increasingly flustered. I knew I should’ve just stayed in my lane as a good girl who did everything for her dom. My flustered state was so noticeable that the rest of my co-workers had even noticed, which was telling considering my normally shy demeanor translated to flustered.
As soon as I shakily opened the door with the spare key Spencer had given to me on our last anniversary I was greeted with the tall imposing figure of him standing at the end of the entryway.
His slow walk over to me caused me to drop my purse over being intimidated, it was a good thing though because I was positive I had never been so soaked before.
Once he reached me he tilted up my chin with one finger and spoke with a calmness as cool as steel, “You’re going to do as I say tonight, I’m going to punish you. If you speak out of turn once I won’t let you cum for a week.”
Your confidence in your bratty behavior from early had all but completely deflated at those words. He had edged me before too and I had done it many times before, never for so long though. I definitely knew I wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“Yes, Sir.” I spoke firmly to emphasize that I wasn’t playing around anymore, I was ready to listen like I normally did.
“Just a few simple words and you’re so easy to tame?” You nodded with a whimper and averted your eyes away, embarrassed with how quickly he could bring you back to your usual behavior. He reached forward to push up your glasses that had slipped down your nose a little which also refocused your gaze back on him before he spoke again, “I knew you’d be so easy, you’re always so desperate to please me and- yourself. I knew as soon as I threatened to take it all away you’d come crawling back doll. ”
He enveloped me into a harsh all consuming kiss that there was no escape from, not that I wanted to though. He easily dominanted the kiss while also running his large hands through my hair and tugging harshly to pull me closer. Suddenly he broke the kiss, leaving us both panting and he touched me jaw again. This time he gripped it hard before giving me another command that I was ready and willing to follow,
“I want you to ride me tonight, it is my birthday after all. I want you above me while I look at you fucking yourself on my cock, just desperate to cum while you service me.” I whined at his words, hoping that I’d get to cum. But, I had never really been bratty, the only spankings I had gotten before this was because I asked for it. I whimpered in wonder about whether or not Spencer was going to give me the chance to cum or not. Spencer seemed to understand my nonsensical plea then speaking with a condescending tone, “Oh no, you’re not going to get to cum tonight until I see if you regret your bratty behavior, little doll.”
He hauled me up onto his lap after basically ripping down my panties and skirt to straddle him when he sat down onto the couch, which happened to be the closest surface suitable for what Spencer wanted to do to me right then and right now.
He ran his fingers through my folds collecting my juices, teasingly rubbing my clit for a second of relief before popping his fingers into his mouth to get a taste. “Mmm, you taste wonderful. Want to taste?”
“Y-yes, Sir.” He already knew my answer though considering he had already pulled my hair to tilt my jaw back causing me to stutter while running his hands through my folds again. Once he got his finger sufficiently wet again he shoved his fingers into my mouth with no warning, gagging a little in response. He pumped his fingers in and out of my mouth until he was completely satisfied how I had sucked the juices off of his fingers, until drool had been escaping the corners of your mouth.
Again he rubbed my clit in a teasing manner before speaking, “You’re already so wet you're practically dripping, I could just slide right in.”
It wasn’t too long until he had and he was right he did slide right in, my walls gripping him like a glove.
I was only allowed a moment to adjust before he prompted me to start moving by saying, “I’d like my birthday present now.”
I began to bounce on top of him as I had done many times before. At one point I had tried to take my glasses off to make myself perhaps more comfortable but was met with a light growl telling me that he wanted them to stay on. After a while I had created a rhythm for long enough that I was wondering when my punishment was going to come, I already had a pretty good idea what it was going to be.
A harsh sound cracked through the room suddenly confirming my suspicion, he had spanked me hard. My hips stuttered from shock, then stopping completely reeling from the harsh slap.
“Call them out, Doll.” He sharply spoke after landing the second blow onto my other cheek.
“2-2!”
“I’ll let that one slide but call them out clearly next time.”
My hips were burning as I tried to focus on rotating them properly while he started to lay in on my ass. It also was difficult to focus on making sure I was calling out the spanks with some semblance of clarity.
“12!” “13!” “14!”
Number 14 had been the harshest one yet making me cry out so loud in the back of my mind I was concerned that maybe his neighbors would call the cops. Though the burning pleasure echoing through me wasn’t letting me voice my concern to Spencer, all I cared about was trying to hold off my orgasm that I was already dangerously close too despite being so far off from the finishing number.
When tears started to prickle in my eyes Spencer looked up at me with slight worry, breaking the scene a little. I hadn’t gotten near my breaking point yet so I nodded for him to continue, I only had about 10 more to go.
“24! 25! 26!”
When my hips started to slow down slightly because of the stinging pain from his spanks he gripped my hips hard which I was sure would leave another kind of mark that I’d wear for a while.
He released his hard grip with one hand to continue the count to the magic number, how many years old he was today. I willed myself to continue counting because I knew I’d just get myself signed up for more, maybe even starting back from zero— I didn’t know if I could handle that and successfully hold off my orgasm.
“36!”
“37!”
“38!” The last stinging slap cracked down like a whip to my ass that was no doubt probably would make it hard to sit for the next week, hopefully not more.
I was hoping to get relief from Spencer by letting me have permission to cum but, when he asked the next question I realized he wouldn’t let me off so easy, “Do you think you’ve earned it?”
“No, sir I haven’t but I’d really like to cum please?!” I knew I hadn’t begged enough in his eyes, I knew I hadn’t earned it yet, but I was just so desperate to finish. His cock was running up perfectly against my g spot hurtling me precariously close to the edge.
“Say your sorry.”
“I- I’m sorry, S-sir!” I stuttered out in desperation which was usually not something Spencer would have tolerated, I think he sensed that I wasn’t going to last any longer with the edging and being no longer physically able to control it.
“Ok, Doll you can cum, since you decided to follow my directions so well.” As soon as ‘ok’ had left his lips I stopped holding my orgasm back out of pure exhaustion. It was so devastatingly good, ripping through every nerve in my body, that I barely noticed Spencer finishing as well. I only felt the last few ropes being pumped into me after the majority of my orgasm had passed.
Our panting breaths mingled as I leant over to kiss him while I rocked my hips to drag out the last dregs of our orgasms. The kiss ended up being more messy than I intended but I was just desperate to feel his lips on mine again.
Spencer gripped my lightly jaw once he had caught his breath some and turned my head to the side to press a kiss below my ear before speaking softly, “Such a good girl.”
“Thank you, sir.” I whispered back with another characteristic whine from me that was a little pathetic on my part, I had been ruined by him for sure.
We basked in the presence of each other for a little while, just enjoying being tangled all together. Though after a while the stickiness between my thighs got a little too uncomfortable and Spencer started the main part of aftercare for me. He seemed a little caught up in his thoughts while he started to clean me up so I prompted him with a little boop on the nose to silently ask what’s wrong.
“Did I go too far?” The worry he felt was evident by the tensing in his shoulders where he often seemed to hold his worry.
You quickly interjected as he began to stutter out the beginnings of an apology despite not letting you answer yet, “If you had, I would’ve used my safe word.”
He breathed out a sigh of relief as he resumed my aftercare, making sure I was well taken care of and pampered to perfection. We were sitting in a bubble bath when I finally realized something, I hadn’t said Happy Birthday to him yet.
“Happy Birthday, Spencer.”
I said while I was straddling him and I could already feeling him getting ready for another round, though this one would surely be gentler than the last as to not irritate my ass anymore. Despite my still stinging backside I was glad I stole Spencer’s birthday spankings.

Notes: So So So Sorry for the extremely long wait. I just could not get this chapter out of me for all that is good in this world. I hope some smut makes up for the wait.
Enjoy
Number Nine Glovergus Lane has an exceptionally large door; Remus observes as he looks up at the towering manor.
It's an especially sunny day, warm with a slight breeze. Perfect for taking his girlfriend somewhere for a stroll around a pond or... in a garden or something.
Instead of spending a romantic day with (y/n), he found himself being practically pushed out of the front door of her home. It hadn't been a malicious action on her part; she had ripped the letter from Mister Gedius out of his hands as they sat in her family's garden, eating breakfast. A brief glance over the letter had her dragging him out of his chair and up the staircase as she excitedly talked about the opportunity Mister Gedius had written about.
He allowed her to pick out the outfit she deemed "smart enough" for an interview and practically buzzed with energy as he changed, chattering away non-stop.
Of course, he had to agree with what she wanted. She was too excited for him to just ignore the reply. Besides, Mister Gedius was offering a particularly generous deal. It was good pay, flexible time (obviously a plus for someone who had a-- furry little problem), and he would be doing something he knew he would be good at. Maybe it wasn't a flashy Ministry position or the coveted Defense Against the Dark Arts post, but it was something. And he desperately needed something.
The last thing he needed was (y/n)'s parent's to believe he was dragging down their daughter in any way. He could be a provider.
Not that (y/n) expected him to take on such a traditional role, but something in him had to prove to others he was capable. No one had yet made him believe he wasn't, but society's view of his kind was far from accepting. It would always be a fear that lingered somewhere in his mind.
"Yes?" Remus snaps back to attention, looking up at the greying man.
"Hello, I am Remus Lupin. I sent you an inquiry about the Library assistant job last week."
"Ah yes," the man nods, "come in, come in." The man leads Remus into a large library, "sit, sit. Would you like anything? A cup of tea, perhaps?"
"Uh-- sure, thank you. That would be great."
The man settles down in a chair across from Remus before speaking, "Did I introduce myself?" Remus sets his cup down before responding that he did not with a shake of his head.
"Ah-- I always seem to forget. Effie always reprimanded me for forgetting to introduce myself," he chuckles fondly, "I am Iwan Gedius. I'm sure you deduced that considering, I am seated across from you."
Remus smiles politely, "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Mr. Gedius."
"Please, call me Iwan. If you're to take up this post, you must drop the formalities. They are quite unnecessary in my home."
"Of course s-- Iwan."
The older man smiles, looking amused, "So tell me, Remus Lupin, are you a recent graduate from Hogwarts?"
"I am, this past May."
"Congratulations. Do you have any experience with libraries?"
"Not any professional experience, but with my studies, I spent numerous hours locating books in the Hogwarts Library. And of course, multitudes of hours replacing said books."
Iwan nods, "And you're up for my library? I have to warn you, I am notorious for not reshelving my books. At least not very well."
Remus nods, "Whatever needs reshelving, I am more than willing to reshelve. And, I have plenty of patience to document or reorganize the whole library if needed. I am willing and happy to put the whole library back together, honestly."
Iwan chuckles, "You've more than convinced me, Remus. You can start next Monday, maybe around ten A.M.? I don't expect you to work more than five or six hours a day. Weekends off, of course, and personal time off is always available if you request a few days ahead of schedule. How does that sound?"
Remus grins, feeling elated, "That sounds great! I appreciate that you're taking a chance on me."
***
"So?" (y/n) is sitting at the dining room table when he gets back.
He shrugs off his blazer, setting it down on the back of a kitchen chair, "I got the job."
A smile rises on her lips, "Did you really?" Remus nods as she springs out of the chair she had been sitting on, launching herself into his arms.
"I knew you would get it! I just knew it!" Remus makes a noise of surprise as she presses her lips against his. His hands find (y/n)'s waist as he steadies them, their bodies molding together as the kiss quickly grows passionate.
"My parents-- they're gone for the next few hours," she whispers against his ear, her sinful hands untucking his dress shirt.
Remus doesn't think twice about what she said, pulling her immediately towards the staircase. Weeks had gone by between the time he was allowed to feel her underneath his body. The temptation to bury himself in her warmth, to hear her soft sounds as they move together towards mutual pleasure... It's too strong to resist.
(y/n) gets his shirt unbuttoned and thrown from his shoulders before he can get her bedroom door shut properly. He returns the favor with vigor, removing her clothing with unmatched speed. A bit embarrassing when he thinks back to it later that night, but at the moment, getting her naked and on the bed is all he could care about.
She looks fantastic, he thinks, once she's displayed in front of him. Despite actually only being a bit bigger than what they're used to at Hogwarts, the bed looks massive. The possibilities are endless, he thinks, trying to decide how he wants her situated.
Tapping her hip softly, he mutters, "'wanna try something new."
Sitting up on her forearms, (y/n) gives him a funny look, "like what?"
"You'll see," Remus kneels on the bed, moving her leg so he can lay next to her. "Lean against me. Just like that, good girl." He's moved her, so she's got her back pressed to his chest and her leg over his hip. Remus's left hand, which rests on her abdomen, moves up to massage her breast as his other hand begins to slip down her thigh towards her sex.
He swears she's holding her breath, her face turned towards him as he teases the skin of her inner thigh, not yet reaching where she wants him.
"What do you want?" he presses a kiss to her neck, his hands ceasing their teasing as he waits for an answer.
"You know what I want, Rem." Not the answer he wants, not what he wants at all.
He tries again with a light pinch against her breast for emphasis, "Tell me what you want."
The yelp is exactly the reaction he had wanted. Remus hides a satisfied grin upon her neck.
"Please touch me." Her voice is quiet.
He caresses her thigh, "here?"
(y/n) shakes her head, "no, no, please, Remmy. Don't make me beg you."
"I thought you were a good girl. Good girls use their words." He can't help himself, biting lightly where he had previously kissed.
She makes a whimpering sound, her fingers intertwining with his brown hair, pulling lightly as he tongues at her neck.
"I am-- I want your fingers in me, please. Please, Remmy, I want you to fuck me with your fingers."
He grins, "there we go. That wasn't too hard, was it?" He moves his hand down to cup her sex, "got to make sure you're nice and wet for my cock. Isn't that right, darling?"
"Yes, yes, please--" She's cut short as he thrusts two fingers inside of her. The noise she makes is like poetry.
"Is that too much?"
"More, I want more." She's already squirming against his hand, trying to fuck herself against it.
Any concern Remus may have had melts instantly, "as you wish." Pulling his fingers out, absolutely coated in her juices, he inserts a third before beginning a quick pace.
"My hands are a bit busy; how about you play with those pretty tits for me, darling." Remus's voice is low, barely over a whisper. Her hands are immediately at her chest.
"Like this?" Her voice holds a teasing edge as she watches his eyes follow the way she pinches her nipples.
"Exactly like that." With his free hand, Remus moves her beautiful face towards his, kissing her soundly. (y/n)'s hands are suddenly buried in his hair, forgetting her previous request as her hips maneuvering to press up against his lower abdomen.
"Fuck me, please?"
And who is he to deny her when she's behaving so good, using her words like he asked? With a tilt of his hips, he's sheathed within her.
With each shallow thrust, (y/n) rocks against his hips, causing her clit to rub against his body, the leg thrown over his hip wrapping itself tighter around him. Remus lets his hand drift from her lower back towards her ass, grabbing a handful to increase the push and pull of their lovemaking.
The angle is new for them, on their sides gripping one another to stay exactly like that because he's hitting just the right spot, the spot that makes her involuntarily let out small gasps.
She's chanting quietly, breathlessly that she wants more. She wants everything he can give her and more. Whimpering about how big he feels and how much she loves his cock.
"Please, Remus--"
"What do you want?" He asks before kissing her again.
"I wanna cum, please, Remmy--" Remus grins, pulling out quickly.
Before she can complain, he moves her to her hands and knees. Large hands massage her ass, feeling rather giddy as he runs his cock against her cunt.
(y/n)'s whole body seems to tremble, her face turning to look at him, "Oh, Gods-- hurry!"
The night is full of new surprises, he thinks to himself before he goes right back to fucking her senseless.
"Holy fuck," (y/n) gasps out. Remus can't help but grin, leaning over to press a kiss to the back of her neck. He feels huge draped over her body, caging her in against the bed as he relentlessly pounds into her.
This may be his new favorite position. He's got access to nearly all of her, and he can't say he doesn't enjoy having this more dominant power over her.
His hand snakes down to her sex, fingers moving clumsily till they find her clit. At the contact, (y/n) pushes back hard against his hips, her head jerking up just a tiny bit.
"Yes, there." Remus obliges, fingers moving in practiced circles around her clit, his mouth attaching itself to the side of her neck, pushing her towards her release. Feeling he's only going to last another minute or two more, Remus's movements speed up, hoping to get her there before him.
It seems to do the trick, her pussy trembling around his cock in seconds and a low moan of his name coming from her lips. The top of (y/n)'s body seems to slump against the bed as he chases his own release.
He pulls out of her, releasing across the small of her back with a deep groan. He steadies himself by planting his hands on her hips.
He's about to make a comment about enjoying the view when he hears the (y/l/n)'s front door open and close and the sound of (y/n)'s mother calling for her.
"Shit!" Remus springs up from the bed, grabbing his wand to get rid of the mess on (y/n)'s back and to cast a precautionary contraception charm.
"C'mon now," Remus whispers, pulling his pants back on. (y/n) laughs, rolling over to look at him, but she doesn't seem to be in a rush to get her clothes back on.
"Relax, Remus." She's about to pull on one of his shirts, but he grabs it from her hand.
"Don't make it too obvious."
(y/n) rolls her eyes, "I hardly think wearing your t-shirt is going to tip my mother off to what we were doing."
"I dunno! Mothers are weirdly perceptive."
His girlfriend giggles but pulls on her own shirt for his sake. "Ya know, you're cute."
Remus frowns, "I just don't want your parents to think anything there's any... funny business going on."
"I'm sure they know there is funny business going on. All parents were teenagers once too, you know."
Remus frowns, "Still! They don't need to catch us in your bed."

Mina, Kaminari, and Bakugou did not waste any time.
No sooner had Bakugou spoken than he had you on your feet, shepherding you to the door. His movements had completely changed--no longer was he loud, aggressive, the most volatile thing in the room. Now, he slipped behind you like a shadow, his body pressed firmly and protectively over you, lithe armor at your back.
Mina and Kaminari moved with you, looking solemn.
“We’re going for the surveillance room,” Bakugou growled, “Need to see what the fuck is happening.”
The hall was barren as you emerged into it, silent and still until another explosion rocked the foundations of the building.
“And fast, we need to get Y/N out,” Mina added.
You didn’t protest. You didn’t know what the hell was going on, but you knew distant explosions couldn’t mean anything good.
The surveillance room made it all too clear exactly what was happening. Tens of people were pouring into the top levels of the building, smashing through windows on the business floors, blowing the sides of the building clean open near marketing. A few men dressed in dark coats appeared to have the gall to waltz straight through the front entrance. Everywhere, Miruko’s civilian employees were fleeing in all directions, uncertain of where to run in the chaos.
Your pulse spiked wildly and you watched as Bakugou’s gaze narrowed to scarlet pinpricks as he seemed to spot something familiar to him.
Kaminari made a choked noise. “Is that--?”
“Sugimoto,” Bakugou growled, tapping the image of a tall man surrounded by some kind of glowing purple forcefield quirk. A crackle of sparks lit off from Bakugou’s palm, hot and sharp, and you jumped in surprise.
“What’s Sugimoto?” you asked, looking up into his face.
His lip curled disdainfully. “He’s head of a crime syndicate. Miruko agency raided them a couple months ago in coordination with the police, took down almost the entire syndicate in one straight shot. Miruko killed both of his brothers during the firefight--I’d bet anything he’s here for revenge.”
You suppressed a shiver. Either the man was incredibly confident in his own ability to take on the number seven hero and her entire agency, or he was fucking insane and desperate for revenge. Either way, you did not want to be caught in the crossfire.
“Raccoon, Pikachu, get up to the business level,” Bakugou commanded, a calloused hand closing around your arm. “I’m gonna get the nerd out first, and then I’ll be back to roast Sugimoto in his fucking skin.”
Kaminari nodded and Mina gave you a smile and a reassuring pet over your hair. “Don’t be too late or we’ll get to have all the fun,” she said to Bakugou, winking.
And then she and Kaminari were gone, disappearing in the direction of the stairwell. Your heart rate stuttered nervously, watching them go. Mina’s confidence was reassuring--she was fucking terrifying when she was in her element, and Kaminari was powerful too. But there had been so many people flowing into the building, like the rising tide of a sudden tsunami. You hoped they would be okay.
“You in there, nerd?” Bakugou’s voice cut through your flurry of doubt.
You looked up at him, steeling your features. He was still streaked with dirt and scratches from the training room. You hoped having trained so much already wasn’t going to disadvantage any of them in their fight. “Yeah, sorry. I’m fine.”
He considered you, blonde brows turned down. “You’re gonna be fine, nerd. I’ll kill anyone who fucking looks at you.”
A small strangled noise like a laugh escaped your throat. He was so bad at being reassuring, it was almost reassuring in and of itself. He still was going to be entering the fray several hours into using his quirk already, however. You wondered if his self certainty was going to be enough.
“You don’t think I will?” he demanded angrily, looking absolutely incensed. He looked like he might storm out of your office again, like you had just said the word help to him.
“It’s not me I’m worried about,” you said. “When you go back in, just--be careful, okay?”
His eyes picked over you curiously. Then a small, mortifying smirk appeared at the corner of his mouth. “I fucking knew you had a crush on me, you little freak.”
Your face heated as you gabbled out a protest. “This is so not the time. And I didn’t say that.”
Bakugou rolled a strong shoulder, looking far more relaxed that he had any right to. “Yeah, whatever. You’ll be singing a different tune when this is over.” He watched you for a long moment, his expression looking strangely contemplative.
And then he leaned down and kissed you on the mouth.
Your brain went empty. This could have been just another day at the office for all the thought you were giving the fight upstairs. This could have been any day anywhere, because suddenly you couldn’t remember where you were or what the fuck was going on at all. Bakugou’s mouth was hot and insistent, and he curled a strong arm around your waist to draw you closer, biting down gently on your lip.
You grabbed a fistful of his shirt for dear life, knees going strangely weak, as he swore into your mouth and pressed you into him harder.
“Fuck, I’m not finished with you,” he said when he released you, pressing one last hard kiss to your mouth. “You’re gonna stay right the fuck where I put you, got it?”
You nodded dumbly, trying to will your fingers into unclenching from his shirt. “Y--yeah.”
He smirked, looking far too pleased with himself. You felt your eyebrow twitch reflexively, despite everything that had just happened. “Alright, stay close, nerd. I’m gonna get you the fuck out of here.”
You nodded again. He pulled you behind him, letting you fist your hands in his shirt again, and then lead the way down the hall, keeping close to the wall, the line of his body tense and alert. Some of your earlier uneasiness settled back over you, oppressively heavy, weighing down your every step. The training had been truly terrifying but this was much, much worse, the dread and anticipation coiling in your gut until you thought you might be sick.
You made it to the stairwell and flipped up several floors without incident, though you could hear with some clarity the scuffles ongoing on the floors above you. You encountered no one, not even fellow heroes or civilians, until you hit the ground floor.
Bakugou reached behind him, pressing you even closer to his back with a firm hand. “Alright, nerd. Stay close while I move. If I stop, stay still and trust me, alright?”
Your blood pounded in your veins and you took a calming breath. You could hear the sounds of a fight just beyond the door, but there was no other way out of the stairwell. You’d just have to go through the main floor. “Okay. I’m ready.”
“Good girl,” he said. And then he kicked open the door.
Your brain short circuited and you had just enough mind to register that he was moving, scrambling to keep up with him as he stalked forward through the doorway. You held on to the back of his shirt, pulse spiking wildly, and not just because of your apprehension.
There was a deafening boom like thunder and the hall in front of you went up in a flash, the walls splintering into pieces. Over one of Bakugou’s broad shoulders, you could see the explosion blowing two men straight through the window at the end of the hall, glass shattering around them.
From down the hall came Miruko’s harsh tone, her breath a little labored. “Katsuki, fucking watch it! That’s my window.”
“Yeah yeah,” Bakugou growled, not sounding the least bit chastened. He pulled you to the side as something cold went sailing past your left shoulder, firing off another blast from his palm to shoot the person right through the hole in the window he’d just made.
The two of you crossed through the halls slowly but surely, Bakugou sending anyone who came across your path straight through the wall. To your surprise, he ducked into rooms as he went, demanding that the agency employees hiding under their desks “stop acting like little piss babies and get a move on.” Soon there was a small squadron of people following after his back, and Bakugou had you out of the building and blinking in the sunshine before any of the villains caught the group escaping.
“Stay with these extras,” Bakugou commanded imperiously, shoving you after the group of employees towards the end of the street where the growing swell of sirens could be heard. “I’ll see you soon, nerd.”
He paused, fingers brushing over your mouth for a moment. And then he was gone, shooting himself straight back into the fray. The sirens at the end of the street got louder, and soon several squad cars were pulling around the corner. You joined the flow of people streaming out of Miruko’s agency towards the police, though you couldn’t rip your eyes from the agency building.
The windows had been blown out tens of floors up, and you could hear the crackle of quirks in use, see the flash and bang of Kaminari’s lightning, the blue glow of an unknown quirk on the fifth floor, a tangle of vines wrestling several men out of a window on the fourteenth floor. Mina appeared at a window briefly, covered in acid hardened to an armor, easily deflecting what might have been a devastating blow and kicking a yakuza straight through the glass.
You bit down on a whooping cheer. Now wasn’t the moment.
You tried to keep sight of what was going on as the police shepherded you behind a makeshift blockade, cordoning off the area and sweeping the nearby buildings to help evacuate. The crowd of people around you chattered and shifted restlessly. The longer the fight dragged out, the more anxious you became, your senses heightened to the point of strain, looking for any sign of Bakugou and the others.
Then, to your horror, detonations went off on several of the floors, blowing out the remaining windows, and the building itself shuddered and groaned. A chorus of screams went up from inside the agency as pieces of the building began to detach themselves, crumbling to the ground. Your heart leapt into your mouth, blood icing over in your veins.
A few terrified looking civilians appeared at the windows on the top floors, clinging to the window frames as the foundation lurched. You went still, hardly breathing. Oh my god, were they going to jump? They were several stories up, odds were low they would survive if they did. But--the building shuddered again--fuck, they weren’t going to make it if they went back inside.
Oh my god you were going to watch people die right in front of you.
No sooner had you had the thought than someone was rocketing straight up at them from the ground. Your heart rate spiked, recognizing that mess of blonde hair--Bakugou. Without ceremony he grabbed two people and leapt back off the side of the building, using his explosions to slow their descent. They’d barely met the ground before he was up again, catching another two around the middle and hurtling straight for the ground once more.
Your fingers twisted in the hem of your shirt, watching him anxiously. There were just a few more, just three more people and he would have everyone. You willed your breathing to slow, eyes glued to the scene before you.
Then there was a purple glow, and Sugimoto appeared behind the civilians.
You stopped breathing.
Sugimoto kicked one of the civilians in the back of the knee, sending him out of window, careening head over heels towards the ground. Bakugou had barely just enough time to react, tackling the man in mid air and hitting the side of the building hard with his shoulder before he was able to correct their trajectory.
The building gave another rattle as he did, a crack splitting straight up the middle, spiderwebbing into a thousand smaller fissures.
A blur of pink appeared at the base of the building, Mina materializing just as Bakugou hit the ground with the civilian. A crowd of heroes dragging injured civilians followed her, several of them immediately grabbing onto the people Bakugou had gotten to the ground and towing them out of arm’s reach.
You looked back up to the top floor where Sugimoto had the last two employees in his grip, the edges of that forcefield rippling and roiling over him. His mouth moved like he was saying something but you were too far to hear it, though you could guess the implication. He had a forcefield quirk in a building he’d engineered to collapse. The heroes could choose to go after him but the building was seconds away from imploding, and there wouldn’t be enough time to grab both him and the civilians. Even if Bakugou went up, he only had enough capacity for two people--he’d have to pick between the civilians if he also wanted to grab Sugimoto. And besides that, he wasn’t indestructible. Bakugou didn’t have a quirk that could shield him the same way Sugimoto did as the building went down.
The idea hit you at the same time it appeared to hit Mina and Bakugou. The people around you began to murmur in alarm as Bakugou sank back on the concrete, laying down flat on his back like he was going to take a nap in the sun. In the midst of a crisis the visual was certainly out of place, and a soft “what the fuck is he doing?” from behind you reaffirmed it.
Quick as a flash, Mina had coated herself in hardened acid, and then she was stretching out over Bakugou’s lean form, her vicious smile visible even from where you stood. Bakugou raised his hands to her stomach and called something to the heroes nearby. They all went stumbling back, tearing away from him as fast as they could.
All was still for a second. And then a blast of heat and fire ripped through the street, a roar like thunder rendering you deaf for a moment. You closed your eyes against the wave of hot wind and dust Bakugou’s explosion kicked up, and when you managed to crack one open, Mina was hurtling through the window like a rocket, hitting the edge of Sugimoto’s shield and driving him straight back into the building.
The civilians dropped from his grip.
Bakugou braced his hands against the ground and let off another massive explosion, propelling him straight upwards. He met the civilians in seconds, managing to grab them and flip around in mid air, aiming another series of blasts at the ground to control their fall.
A shocked cheer went up behind you when they hit the street, and you couldn’t contain your own gleeful noise that escaped you, though you couldn’t tear your eyes from the spot where Mina had disappeared.
Bakugou barely had time to get the civilians clear before the top floor began to crumble as the building shook, plaster dislodging itself from the ceiling and slapping down in loud thuds you could hear even from where you stood. You watched anxiously, waiting for Mina’s reappearance, as the building gave one final shudder and then caved in.
The second it did, a head of wild pink curls appeared and Mina flung herself off the top floor, just as the floor gave out underneath her. Bakugou was already moving, breaking into an all out sprint. He flung his arms out behind him, explosions ripping up the ground underneath him, and he collided with Mina mere feet from the ground, wrapping an arm around her and blasting them both back up just as chunks of the building slammed down where they had been.
The entire building came crumbling down in a shower of grey dust, shaking the street and sending a wave of car alarms sounding. Bakugou and Mina came down in a semi-controlled spiral, managing to hit the street just beyond the police barricade, Bakugou rolling in the same move he’d done with you earlier to disperse some of their momentum.
A wild cheer went up and you shouted too, elation rising in you like a flood, crawling through your limbs like a slow shiver.
Miruko hopped the barrier beside you, rushing over to where Bakugou and Mina lay. They were both panting, covered head to do in grey dust, looking worse for wear but alive.
“Sugimoto?” Miruko demanded.
Bakugou pushed himself up on an elbow, the red of his eyes bright against the dust covering him, like a spot of blood on a tissue. Mina popped up next to him, nosy bloody, but grinning.
“Unconscious,” she announced. “Shoved him out the back of the building before it collapsed. I melted the floor under him and he lost focus for a second. That’s all I needed to hit him and encase him in acid. He should be a little injured from the fall but alive.”
Miruko grinned savagely, leaning down to ruffle both of their hair. “You did good work, brats.”
“Get the fuck offa me, hag,” Bakugou complained. You noticed he made no move to dislodge her hand, though, and you stifled a laugh at how obvious he was. Mina had said he had a thing for girls who fucked with him...
Then Kaminari was bursting past Miruko, throwing himself onto the two of them in a whirlwind of tears and flailing limbs.
“That was the coolest shit I have ever seen!” he declared at a deafening volume. “You launched Mina through a building! It was fucking awesome!”
“I’ll launch you through a building if you don’t get the fuck off me,” Bakugou growled, shoving Kaminari’s weight straight onto Mina. He rolled to his feet before Kaminari could come back for more, cocking his head to look into the crowd like he was looking for something. An EMT to patch him up? An officer to make a report, maybe?
Then his eyes locked onto you, and you realized.
Oh, he was looking for you.
He was on you in seconds. You didn’t have time to even squeak out his name before he was swallowing it up, pulling you close to him. He tasted like ash and dust, frankly kind of gross, but you were so disturbingly relieved that he was okay that you didn’t even care, pressing even harder against him as he kissed you.
And okay. So maybe you did have a thing for him, you thought. Maybe. Just a little.
He was still annoying as hell, but he’d just saved a ton of people. Just now, you hadn’t even seen him engage in combat except to rescue people, he’d saved dozens of people including you and Mina, and he’d pulled off the most awesome assist that you had ever seen, letting Mina take down the big bad instead of haring in after the dude himself.
He could, maybe for now, totally get it.
Bakugou smirked down at you when you finally separated, red eyes and white teeth bright against all the grime on him. He leaned in, placing a hand on your cheek.
And in the haughtiest, most migraine-inducing tone ever, he said: “Now who’s the fucking best?”
You made no effort to conceal your eye roll. Well, you supposed, there was only so much about a person that could change in a month.
Instead of complaining, you let him kiss you again.

Wrong Number ♜ Sam × Mina
TIMING: Sometime around the events of BEACH, please LOCATION: The Beach, White Crest PARTIES: @samjacksonwc & @drowningisinevitable SUMMARY: Mina responds to a text, but unfortunately, it’s from Sam. CONTENT: Parental death, parental issues, some rando tourist gets oofed
Sam considered sending the GUY WHO DOES THINGS another message, but he didn’t want to sound overbearing. His usual guy, who also does what he hoped were the very same things, a childhood friend and a hunter, was currently busy elsewhere. Probably screaming at his students again. Because of this, Sam had no choice but to look up the strange folks in his late father’s phonebook, which he knew did things for the bastard. Bad things. Good things. Things that everyone else should never know. This thing, the reason why he had to take the chance, was definitely not for public consumption.
“She was privately consumed,” Sam grimaced, disgusted at the remains that he had uncovered in a secluded area near the beach. Judging from her top, which had the words NEW YORK UNIVERSITY in giant letters across it, she was not from around here. “Most of her anyway.” Half of the body was gone, ripped off from the bottom half while the rest of it seemed to suggest she was trying to drag herself away from the water. That, to Sam, seemed like the Universe telling him to call someone who knew better. Not the cops or animal control, at least not yet, but someone whose name was kept secret by his dad even in his own private list.
Sam looked at his phone again, reviewed his sent message just to see if he had missed any important information to lure the GUY WHO DOES THINGS to his scene of the most gruesome crime, but scowled when he realized he hadn’t. The Tourism Board Member had sent him the address and what seemed to be Jack Jackson’s password: Will Pay 4 Help. “If this guy doesn’t show up in the next thirty minutes, I’m burying you,” he whispered to the corpse. “You can blame him, ma’am. I’m just a random guy. I wouldn’t know how to go about investigating your fantastic remains. Just fantastic… I should be meeting beautiful girls in bikinis by now.”
The phone hadn’t been messaged in months. Mina didn’t know why she kept it, why she charged it. She’d gone over to her house while Bex was at class, planning on packing some things away before they started moving in. But instead she found her dad’s mobile, messages blinking as she picked it up. There was a message from a strange number asking for assistance with something. Urgently. She stuffed the device in her pocket and paced for a bit, thinking.
Mina wasn’t good at the kind of assistance most people required of her father. The hunting kind of assistance. He’d mentioned to her, when he was first moving her in, that eventually he’d join her in White Crest. He had a few contacts in town, people who needed the work that weren’t a part of the life. She just hadn’t expected them to still be trying to get in touch with him almost a year and a half after he stopped answering his phone. Sighing, she checked the address and decided that she’d go and tell whoever Jack Jackson was that she was, in fact, not her father, and she could, in fact, not help him. Nor did she really have any desire to, not really. The people that contacted her dad, Mina was beginning to figure out, didn’t want to help anyone but themselves, and that made her feel something sinking and cold in her stomach.
Driving over to the scene, Mina got out of her car slowly and began walking to where she noticed a figure crouched over… something. “Ah, hey, hi. Listen, I think– Is this Jack Jackson? I think you tried to contact by dad, but he’s– Bloody hell that’s a fucking dead body.” To which Mina promptly turned around and placed her hands on her knees. It wasn’t that she hadn’t seen dead bodies before; on the contrary, she’d seen more than most people would in their lives before she was a teenager. But usually she was prepared for it. Mina wasn’t prepared for that.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa!” Sam tried to hide the entire corpse with his own body, mostly the length of his arms, but failed because a human body is generally thicker than both his arms combined. “This is an active crime scene, ma’am,” he lied, which was what he was very good at. Not that he lies needlessly. Or on whims. No, he actually needs to lie to most people to protect them from themselves, their own curiosities and terrible judgments. When he finally laid eyes on the intruder, however, Sam could do nothing else but just stare at her for a good minute or two. “Are you single?”
“I mean, uhh, are you alone?” Sam started looking behind her, trying to see if there was someone else with her. It was already weird enough when a guy who has been crouching next to a dead body tries to keep you away from said body, already weird without that the shooing part, but Sam couldn’t have realized that it would be much worse when that same guy asks about your relationship status. That was probably why he’s been single for a really long while. That and his job always comes first, which was why he immediately transitioned from being a creep to a creepier creep.
“No boyfriend around?” Sam didn’t even realize he had already put his hands on her shoulders, towering over her like a sketchy bad guy while also sounding like one. “Wait, how did you know that name? I mean, if you’re from town, of course you’d know that bastard’s name, but why did you say it?”
“So someone sent a message to a citizen about an active crime scene?” Mina asked almost immediately before she narrowed her eyes. She didn’t even notice him staring as she leaned around him to look at the body. It was only most of a body, really, the bottom half of it gone, ripped apart. Her mind was already going through the list of things that it might be, but, really, the options were pretty limitless.
“I’m alone,” Mina said absentmindedly, as she continued to look the body over. She was immediately pulled back into her body, into paying attention as hands went to her shoulders and she immediately grabbed his hands and twisted, removing them from her and holding them tight enough that she could break bones if he made one wrong move. “No boyfriend, but I have a girlfriend, not that it should matter at all.” She clearly didn’t need a boyfriend to protect herself. Mina’s eyes scanned around the alley as if preparing for someone else to jump out at her. She wondered if she should run.
When she was certain there was no one else around, Mina looked at the man with narrowed eyes. “My father’s mobile was messaged multiple times to meet at this location. Something urgent. I merely came to respond and inform the sender that he’s no longer available to handle… whatever this is.”
In retrospect, maybe it was a bad idea for Sam to have put his hands on a young woman. Or a woman of any age. Or a person of any gender. Or a creature of any species. But was he going to say that out loud? Publicly admit to it? Apologize for his lack of decorum and respect for personal space? Hell no. Sam had the pride of a king, an emperor, a maharaja. He was a government official, mostly, after all. There was no way in hell he would ever lower himself to— “Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow! Wait, wait, wait,” he pleaded like a little kid brought down to one knee by someone with more power and control in this situation. Everything just got out of hand. “Your dad owned that number?”
Dark brown eyes, somewhat apologetic and confused, fell on the face of the attractive young woman. Sam didn’t even hear that she was in a relationship. Or maybe he chose to ignore it. Either way, he was most focused on her in this present time, as if the past and the future would hold no bearing on their fates. It took him a while to realize how pathetic he must have been to her, easily taken down like that, but then he realized that there must have been a reason why her father was on his father’s contact list. Another hunter? Maybe it runs in the family. It sure seemed like it. “He was on my father’s secret phonebook thing. Jack Jackson. Does that ring any bells?”
“Jeez, you’re strong,” he grimaced in pain, though focusing on how impressive she was made it all worth it for Sam. “What is that? Yoga? How much do you lift? I can easily push 600 to 700 pounds on a prime workout day in a session.” He lied. Obviously. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Sam was not. Will never be.
“That is what I said, isn’t it?” Mina asked, her words short and clipped with her frustration. But she tried not to let that get the better of her, instead clenching her teeth before she let him go. Whoever this guy was, he most likely wasn’t a hunter; if he was, he was an incredibly whiny one. She stepped away, pinching her nose. “I don’t think the name Jack Jackson rings a bell, no, but there were a couple of contacts that I know my dad had here in town.” After they’d gotten of the plane and driven into town, her dad had mentioned that he’d inform her about his contacts when he moved back, but she was supposed to be forging her own path, and he had business to attend to elsewhere.
“I’m not that strong, I simply know the proper ways to twist your arm to where you can’t use it,” Mina said matter-of-factly. She looked around the scene before her eyes went back to him, her eyebrow raised. “You’re lying.” Then she went back to what was in front of her, bending down to inspect what was left of the young woman. She felt a pang of sorrow. This girl had been someone’s family, and now she was gone, ripped apart. Mina tried to figure out what could have done something like this, but the options were limitless. “Were there any witnesses to this attack?” she asked. “Any idea what the cause was?”
“So where’s your dad? Out of town?” If anyone knew how to stop being an annoying prick, that wouldn’t be Sam. With a grimace, he worked out the kinks in his arm as soon as the very attractive young woman let it go, as if he was throwing something invisible to his side, twisting and rotating his shoulders as much as he could without hurting himself, all in all a random assortment of half-remembered arm exercises he once read online and never actually got to turning into a habit. “I’m Sam, by the way. Sam Jackson, of the White Crest Tourism Board.”
“Uh-huh,” he raised an eyebrow, watching her as she did her own survey of their immediate surroundings using only those gorgeous little eyes of hers. Dreamy little… Wait, she’s already with someone. Damn it, Sam. That’s just fucked up. Sam tried his best to shake all that love at first sight vibes off, chasing them away from his head, when she accused him outright of something so terrible, so horrible, he had to let out a loud gasp. “Lying? How dare you?!” His town was exaggerated, complete with terrible acting. “Well, I never… Literally. I’ve never been accused of lying.” That was a lie, a very obvious one at that.
“Honestly,” he began, unironically, as they began to focus on the mysterious remains before them. Or was that ironically? Sam wouldn’t be able to tell either. “I don’t know. Came across this body not too long ago. Haven’t heard from my contact in law enforcement about anything of the sort being reported, so if there was, they haven’t gone to the cops yet. Or with animal control. You’re not a cop, are you?” Too young to be a cop, he thought to himself incorrectly. And too prett— Goddamn it, Sam! She’s not single! He feigned a cough and continued. “Well, judging from the fact that half of the body’s gone, ripped off from the bottom half while the rest of her seemed to have tried to drag herself away from the water and failed… I think it could be…an alligator.”
“He’s dead. Has been for over a year,” Mina said, and it didn’t sting as much as it used to, though her voice was dulled around the edges. She wasn’t even paying attention to the man anymore, though she managed to introduce herself. “I’m Wilhelmina Fitzroy.” She paused, considering. “Just Mina is fine.” She raised an eyebrow at his tone. Mina was a terrible liar by nature, by being what she was, but this guy was bad at it in spite of being given the ability to do so just fine. “Okay,” she said, her tone clearly disbelieving.
“It should likely be reported as an animal attack.” That was the common excuse, right? Mina felt a little sick, and she had to remember to distance herself from this, but it was hard. This could have been someone she knew. It could have been someone that she cared about. “No, I’m not a cop. I tutor people in mathematics,” she said. She looked up at him, an eyebrow raised. “An alligator wouldn’t survive the cold here, even if temperatures have been rather temperate. You might want to think of something else. Why are you involved in this? Why were you looking for my dad?”
“Huh,” Sam absent-mindedly, like always, opened his mouth again, his hands finding their way to his hips after displacing the sides of his hoodie from his black undershirt. “I guess he’s got that in common with my old man, though yours was probably a better dad if you came all the way to do just that.” If there was one thing that was at least consistent with the mundane, it was the fact that he would never miss an opportunity to shit on his deadbeat dad. “Wilhelmina… Yeah, Mina might be easier on the tongue.” Like you’re easier on the eyes, he thought to himself, grinning from ear to ear, before another part of him slapped the previous part on its nonexistent head. Jesus fucking Christ, Sam. She’s already with someone.
“Yeah, likely,” Sam muttered again and folded his hands. “A math tutor who knows a lot about alligators? Sounds exactly like someone my dad would go to for help on these things—things that can’t be and shouldn’t be explained.” He extended a hand for her to shake, a wide but smarmy grin on his face. “Let’s just say, like my dad, unfortunately, I need help from someone more capable, and the hunter I usually go to for help isn’t around these days, so tag, you’re it.” On paper, it all sounded like a pretty cool prospect. In execution, however, Sam wasn’t that great when it came to selling people his side outside of his own field. This was way out of his field. “The White Crest Tourism Board will, of course, shoulder any expenses for this delicate investigation. That is, if it is an investigation. What do you say?”
Mina felt uncomfortable at Sam’s words. She knew what most people in her life thought about her dad, about the kind of person that he was. She wanted to believe he could have been better. She wanted to. But sometimes… it was harder than she wanted, when she thought about the way it was raised, how “tough love” didn’t really quite cover it. She’d been raised to hate herself. She still hadn’t really rectified that. “He was… I only really came to tell you that the person you were trying to reach can’t help you.” She sighed. But she was going to, wasn’t she? “The decreased syllables are helpful to some people.” They’d been helpful to her when she was little. Nothing taught a child to read like having a name that seemed to include most of the alphabet.
“I don’t know much about alligators at all, and neither did my dad. He also wasn’t a math tutor. I’m probably the first in the family.” Though, Mina knew nothing about her family. She didn’t know her father’s side, didn’t know the people that had made him into the hunter that he was, and she didn’t know her mum’s side, either. Not except for Teagan, and Teagan wasn’t a maths person. “I was raised as a hunter,” she said, looking at him. “I haven’t agreed to help with this. If someone else were to stumble across us right now, in daylight, you'd incriminate not only yourself but now another person, me.” She looked at the body. Straightforward and direct, Mina didn’t have time to tiptoe around any sort of secrecy laws. “What do you think did this, really? Is this something that’s happened before? Is this something that you think will happen again?”
But if they worked on this together and combined her cool hunter training with his random bullshit words, chances are they could solve this mystery in a day or two. The faster they, rather Sam could figure out if there was something else in the water, something dangerous, something like that swarm of jellyfish from Hanging Rock and the pretty attractive woman that almost murdered him where he stood. He probably deserved that, though.
“Nah, I usually just show someone my ID and they’d run off,” Sam patted himself down, trying to find that ID but to no avail. Then he remembered he left it in his car. Fuck. “You could just knock them out, too. I’ve seen you guys do it. Well, one of you. One time, this random kid saw something he shouldn’t have seen, so our…consultant tried to kick him unconscious,” he paused only to take a quick breath. “But I was like, nah, dude, don’t worry about it. He’s just a kid. Who’d believe a snot-faced little turd? So I just bribed him with ice cream and some money. Kid never snitched on us.” Also never saw that kid again, though… He narrowed his eyes at a creeping thought but shrugged it off. Not his problem.
Speaking of things that could be his problem… “Could be something in the water? OF the water? Not sure if you hunters have a directory of spooky water monsters,” Sam feigned a cough, looking around them to make sure no one was snooping. Fortunately for them, mostly for him, the beach was on their side. “But whatever this is, it doesn’t look natural, if you catch my drift.” He had no drift. “What do you think we should do? Could call the M.E. or animal control, but I just wanted to make sure this wasn’t something that could jeopardize the beach thing, you know? And hurt people. Yeah, hurting people’s the number one danger here, also my priority as a Tourism Board Member.” It was not.
“Is there something special about an ID for the White Crest Tourism Board,” Mina murmured, searching around the scene for potential clues. She looked up, frowning. “I’m not just going to knock out an innocent, defenseless person without proper cause. Do you know what kinds of damage head injuries can do?” That would be foolish. “You… bribed a child with ice cream and money? What happened after? What did the child even see?”
She listened carefully to Sam as he spoke, trying to figure out what she was dealing with. He said words like ‘spooky’ and seemed unsure of almost everything, and he tried to be discreet without actually being discreet. Mina sighed. “There’s an abundant list of water dwelling creatures that could have caused something like this, if that’s the route you would like to take.” Herself included, if she was cruel, bad, a monster. Mina tried so hard not to be a monster. She raised an eyebrow. “As it is, this looks like it could have been done by an animal. The lines are jagged enough, and whatever did this wasn’t man made. If it gets out, it’s going to become news, but unlikely for long. Murders never stay news around here.”
Mina stood, wiping her hands on her jeans. She had no idea, really, what this man would do, but it wasn’t really her job to worry about that. Still. “You should do what’s right and inform the proper authorities to try and identify this person. Give the family peace. Give whoever is looking for them peace.” She swallowed tightly. This was and this wasn’t her life. She stood on a precipice, and she still didn’t know which way to fall. “It might be good to worry less about an event and worry more about the fact that this could occur to more people if something isn’t done. I would inform animal control. Or… any other hunters that you know, really.”
“Well, I mean, it’s a pretty nice ID,” Sam shrugged, not entirely sure what to say to impress the hunter. It was a stable job. It also had decent authority when it came to stuff, at least enough to shoo normal people away when he needed to. But hunters weren’t normal people. They probably didn’t even care about stability and authority. He imagined it would be hard to, considering their world operated outside of the norm, of the shit everyone else’s used to, known all their lives. “That’s fair. I mean, I’m not a doctor, but I do have an idea. Just thought that was an everyday option for you guys.”
“It was one of those unfortunate joggers who accidentally touched the roots of that giant tree. You know about that, right? Helped get rid of it myself.” He beamed with pride. Fact of the matter was, the kid reminded Sam of himself back then. Curious little snot-faced weirdo, more concerned with possibilities than reality itself. Might be because his own was very disappointing, not to mention painful, so the supernatural, the fantastical, was his escape. Both the ice cream and the money, what he called bribes, were actually just his way to ease the kid’s life and apologize for the disgusting mess he had to see. Sam didn’t especially like children, but he didn’t think they deserve to be traumatized by this town, by their own.
“So you’re not going to take care of it?” Sam heaved a sigh of disappointment. If it were any other person, it wouldn’t have made sense, asking someone else, someone you just met, to clean up after such a weird tragedy, especially a supernatural one, or so it seemed, even if they were a hunter. But Sam had unfortunately nurtured a habit of relying on Thomas whenever something like this popped up. Now that he wasn’t answering his calls, things would have to change. Sam never liked change. “Or at least recommend another one of you guys?”
“I didn’t even know there was a tourism board,” Mina said, blinking a little. She certainly didn’t understand what a tourism board would have to do with any sort of authority around town. As far as she was aware, tourism wasn’t even that big of a deal. People moved in, they typically died, and they were replaced. Or they were old families that had been living in town for generations. That was the way of White Crest, from what Mina could tell, but maybe she was wrong with that. She shook her head, frowning. “I don’t hurt innocent people,” she said.
“I’m aware of the tree, yes,” Mina said wryly, thinking about all of the trouble that it had caused. She didn’t mean to look a little disbelieving as Sam said that he helped. Stranger things had ended up being true. Perhaps he had helped get rid of the tree, though he couldn’t help get rid of a body on his own. “No, I’m not going to take care of it,” she said. “My suggestion is to inform local law enforcement. It looks enough like an animal attack that, unless you’ve put your hands all over the body, it could probably pass off as an animal attack.” Now, though, the problem was figuring out what the “animal” was. Would Mina help with that? She kept asking herself over and over again if she’d stay involved. “I’m not a hunter.” And the words were sour. Did she still believe that was a lie? “I don’t run with many other hunters. I can’t really help you on that front.” She sighed, though. “If you find out that something like this happened again, you may message this number.” She pulled out a piece of scrap paper and scribbled her number down. Mina frowned at him. “But only if it seems like this sort of situation is becoming out of control.”
For a moment, as Sam stood next to Mina admiring the view like a complete idiot and she blinked her truth at him, he felt his heart break into a million teeny tiny pieces while the sound of glass shattering can be heard in the background of his teeny tiny brain. Did that mean deep down he considered his heart to be made of fragile glass? Sam did not linger on that thought, choosing instead to salvage what remained of his pride with an obviously fake chuckle, something that Bully Maguire would really enjoy. “I mean, we have posters and an office, but sure, yeah,” Sam’s voice got even quieter as he spoke those words that made for very little defense.
“Okay,” Sam heaved a very audible sigh, clearly disappointed, as he looked around them to find something to cover the body with or at least put up a sign for anyone else not to touch it or even just get near it, which would probably not work, considering how many people tried to touch the damned tree when everyone said not to. “All right, I know people from animal control, so that’ll be easy enough.” He instinctively turned to her with a raised eyebrow when she explained she was not like her father. On one hand, Sam could find some sort of similarity in that. They were not their fathers. Except that on the other hand, it was very, very disappointing. He appreciated how she brightened up his day, though, even on the most basic of contexts, but he really needed another hunter to help him with this situation. God damn you, Thomas, wherever you are.
“Raised as a hunter but not a hunter, huh? I get it. Good on you for choosing to pave your own path. Not many of us get to do that.” There was a tiny bit of sadness in his voice with that last statement but he chased it off with a feigned cough as he took the piece of paper she had handed him. “Is this your number?” Sam immediately grinned, as if on perpetually idiotic cue, when their eyes met, that frown and serious emphasis be damned. She’s so pretty… Fortunately for him, another voice chimed in, the better version of himself, an imagined alternate that never saw the light of day unless it was absolutely necessary. …and so not interested, Sam. Get over it. Another feigned cough, trying to be more serious and more professional and less like a very lonely little man, which he was, this time. “Thank you, Miss Fitzroy,” he looked away from her, feeling a little guilty at being so stupid. “This town appreciates all the help it can get.”

Danny Zuko would never
Hey y’all! I am so sorry I haven’t posted in so long. Life drug me down into a routine of chaos to be quite honest. I can’t remember if this was inspired by a request or not so I apologize if I have forgotten to tag you.
Jax x Reader
Friends to Lovers, Sandy level makeover
Warnings: cursing, mentions of addiction
Y/N was having a blast! Her and Gemma decided to drive into San Jose to shop for new clothes. Y/N worked with a non-profit medical assistance center in the pediatrics wing. She was off for the next four days and tomorrow was the Charming Fall Festival. Gemma had been really struggling lately, with her and Clay’s breakup and worrying about Jax now that he was President.
Y/N was so happy Gemma asked her to join in on the shopping trip. The club mom had a habit of pushing the young nurse out of her comfort zone. Y/N was almost always in scrubs, jeans and oversized clothes. Not that it was a bad wardrobe, it worked for her purposes. But Y/N wanted to be daring and dress up a bit. Honestly she just wanted to catch Jax’s eye. Maybe even have a Sandra Dee at the Summer Carnival moment.
Gemma said that Jax and Y/N were a pair of idiots, perfect for each other. Neither one realized they were interested in each other. No matter how much the people around them pointed it out the two remained oblivious. So when Y/N told Gemma that she was ready to do something bold, Gemma was over the moon with excitement.
Y/N had never been the one to go over the top. Especially with her looks, but at this point she didn’t know what else to do to get Jax’s attention. She had money to burn and was ready to up her wardrobe. Gemma said if she wanted to get the title of Old Lady that they were gonna go all out.
Y/N was suddenly very grateful that Jax insisted on sending Tig and Happy with them because she was not going to want to drive after the day Gemma planned out. Tig as Gemma’s go-to bodyguard and Happy as Y/N’s, all piled up into a Teller-Morrow rental.
Gemma said that meant Jax already thought of her as his Old Lady, “Sending an enforcer, only happens for the President’s girl.”
“Then why doesn’t he ask me out or claim me as his, huh? If he really thought that way then he’d do something!” Y/N protested
“He cares for you and sent Happy! Make him step up and prove himself.” Gemma lectured.
Tig chimed in, “Sorry hun, Gem is right. Sgt. at Arms never gets sent with a random chick for a girls day, no matter how good a friend she is.”
Happy let out a resounding hum in affirmation. Y/N gawked at the first shop they pulled up to at Gemma’s demand. It was a very nice vintage clothing and accessory store.
“I’ll buy you the first ten pieces of jewelry you find that fit a president’s Old Lady.” Gemma paused to laugh at Y/N’s shocked expression, “Move it or lose it sweet cheeks, offer ends in thirty minutes!”
Y/N squealed and grabbed Happy’s arm tugging him along. While he was a man of few words, Y/N had a knack for deciphering his gruff responses and gestures. She knew he’d be great at helping her pick out some goodies. She’d hold a pair of earrings up to her face or model a chunky bracelet and depending on Happy’s response she’d add it to her basket or throw it away.
By the time she met Gemma and Tig at the register she had collected a skull ring, a chain belt, crow studded earrings, a crescent moon necklace, a crow skull ring, an obsidian oval faced ring, a snake necklace, a pair of silver hoops, diamond stud earrings, and black dangle earrings. Gemma pried over the basket in judgement before giving a sharp nod and motioning Y/N to hand the items to the cashier.
Y/N was happy to see that Gemma had found a few items to purchase for herself as well. While they were checking out Y/N saw several studded belts, a new mirror for her vanity, some vintage ashtrays and a gorgeous green glass vase. Gemma demanded that the boys load the car with her new purchases and locked arms with Y/N before strutting out of the shop.
Next was a gigantic department store. Gemma dragged her through the store and repeatedly threw clothes at Happy and Tig to carry to a dressing room. By the time Gemma was done each woman had fifty or so items to try on and there were even a few things for the men to try on as well.
They would all try on a complete outfit, step outside of the room, do a little spin or strut(stand and pout in Happy’s case), receive critiques or hype and then repeat. The boys ran out quickly and ended up lounging on a couch and offering opinions when asked. Gemma told Y/N that the goal was sophisticated grunge. She still wasn’t sure she understood, but she did feel very hot in everything they decided to buy.
Next was shoes.Y/N decided to only buy four pairs and let everyone have a say. Happy found Y/N the best pair of riding boots for women, Tig picked out some dagger-like heels, Gemma picked a pair of knee high heeled boots and Y/N picked white sneakers that matched the ones she bought Jax a few years ago.
Last stop was a nail salon. Gemma sent Y/N straight to the back room to get waxed. When Y/N gave her a look and squawked at her, Gemma just twirled her finger and said to “do what needs to be done”. When Y/N stumbled back out of the room, Gemma had a mimosa waiting for her.
Y/N couldn’t commit to long nails or a dark color due to her job but it was still nice to be pampered after such a long and challenging day. While getting their nails done, the girls talked through what Y/N should wear the next night for the carnival. The three pros of MC life gave Y/N a few pointers on how to own being an old lady. This still made Y/N scoff and worry that everyone was wrong.
-----------------------
The carnival was finally here and Jax was excited for some much needed time off with his family and friends. Gemma wanted to watch Abel for the night. This meant he could really relax and let loose tonight. No worries about staying out too late for his little man or limiting his alcohol or weed. It was gonna be great.
At least, til he saw Y/N walking up, “What the hell are you wearing?”
Y/N looked different, that’s for sure. She knew she didn’t look bad though. She had on a tight black wrap-around long-sleeve crop top, ripped jeans with fishnets underneath and the white sneakers she picked out. She even threw on some of the goodies that Gemma bought her. She cinched her waist in with the chain belt, the crow studs and skull ring added to the alure. Her hair was curled and she did her makeup, highlighting her sparkling eyes with black eyeliner and her plump lips with a deep red lipstick.
“What do you mean?” Y/N asked, holding back remorse for dressing up.
“You look like a, shit, who are you dressed up for?” Jax questioned.
“Why does it have to be for someone? Can’t I look hot without it being for someone,” Y/N put a hand on her hip, beginning to get pissed.
“You look like you’re trying to lock a member down! Got your eyes set on one of the guys huh? You’ve been hanging around Happy a lot lately, trying to be his old lady?” He prodded.
“Dammit Jax! I had my eyes set on you but I guess I can’t be your old lady unless I am pining desperately for you to rescue me! Maybe I need a stalker or some form of addiction for you to realize I like you” Y/N screamed, stomping off.
Y/N knew that was uncalled for but her anger got the better of her but not even Danny Zuko would pull this kind of douche move. It definitely wasn’t going the way she thought it would. While she didn’t necessarily believe the others when they said Jax was interested, it hurt that he was so offended by her looks. Her eyes began to sting as she pondered why she even considered making a move.
Jax lost his breath when Y/N yelled at him. He quickly got it back when a ringed had slammed into the back of his head. When he whipped his head around he saw a pissed off Gemma staring him down.
“Remember how you sent Happy and Tig with us yesterday? She spent the entire buying stuff because she wanted to look like an old lady. She did that for you. We all encouraged her because everyone here sees how y’all feel about each other except the two of you. If you don’t wanna be with her, cut it off now and stay at the table. But if you want her to be your old lady like we know you do, you better chase after her.”, his mom said, matter-of-factly.
Jax stared at her with his mouth open. He was still in shock. He always saw Y/N as his but didn’t think she would want to be with him. When she left for college, he thought he lost his chance. She came back and he was with Wendy. She dated some uppity guys here and there, he assumed that was her type and she was ready to settle down. So when Tara decided to stay in Charming and he saw Y/N out on another date, he chose to go back to Tara.
To think that he and Y/N could have been together for years now was making his head run circles around his heart. The fact that she did all of this to be with him permanently seemed ridiculous to him. She could have just told him, but looking back she must have been trying for years. The dedication to him and the club wasn’t out of friendship but love.
“Fuck”, Jax let slip from his lips as he hopped off of the table he was sitting on.
He marched off on a mission, searching for Y/N. He stomped through the happy crowd and scanned the flashing neon lights with his eyes. He was pissed at himself. He knew his mom was right too, if he didn’t show his feelings now he and Y/N didn’t have a chance in hell. He just hoped he could find her.
Y/N stopped at the ferris wheel. Her eyes were still stinging but she refused to cry, especially in front of all these people. She would either get up in the air and cry or calm down. She was losing it on the inside. Every single person she talked to said Jax felt the same way, but Jackson’s reaction was the opposite of what was expected.
Y/N was at the front of the line when Jax finally tracked her down. Jax picked up his pace and managed to get to the ticketer as she got in on her own. Jax shoved a handful of cash into the operators hands when he protested and hopped in with her and shut the door behind him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing Jackson?” Y/N huffed
Jax flinched at the use of his full name, “I fucked up. Can we talk?”
“It doesn’t matter, you trapped me with you. You got one loop to convince me to stay on the ride with you”, she demanded.
Y/N was pissed. First, Jax insulted her and asked her if she was trying to nail one of his guys and now he wouldn’t even let her cry it out on her own. She was waiting for him to pull the “let her down easy” lines she knew the man had memorized. Except with Y/N it was going to be…
“We have been friends for as long as I remember. I didn’t realize that you felt that way about me.”
Y/N cut Jax off, “Look, we don’t have to do this. I’m trying to keep my shit together but I’d rather not do this right now.”
Confusion graced Jax’s face, “No, I, I’m trying to explain. It’s not what you think.”
“I’m pretty sure it is, Jax. You made your point earlier, if I want to be an old lady I should look to Happy and or another member.”, Y/N ranted, this last thing she wanted was to dig into why Jax didn’t want to be with her.
“Dammit Y/N! I am trying to tell you that I love you, too!” Jax shouted, losing it for a moment.
He pulled Y/N in for a kiss, one had cupped her face and the other pulled Y/N onto his lap. Y/N was shocked at Jax’s announcement and even more so at his lips on hers.
By the time Jax and Y/N had finished a loop, she was happy to stay on the ferris wheel with him. By the time the ride had ended they had become a couple and managed to mark their claims on each other. By the time the duo made it back to the crew’s table, the group began to hoop and holler. Y/N felt her cheeks heat up and ducked her head into Jax’s arm while he received high fives and slaps on the back in congratulations.
“Let me know when to expect another grandbaby!”, Gemma said with glee as she walked past the happy couple with a sleepy Abel in her arms.
To say the least, Momma Gemma is the best

pairing: CEO! Namjoon x black Assistant! Y/N
genre: fluff, angst, boss/employee relationship, f2l
warnings: mention of racism/discrimination in workplace, very indirect mention of domestic abuse
Summary: Losing your job was one of the worst things that could possibly happen to you. Bills started piling up, and soon enough you were in complete debt. By a miracle, you were offered the position of assistant to the CEO of Persona who turns out to be a real sweetheart.
WC: 5.6k--i think this is the most i’ve written. i could’ve written some more but ya girl was losing that thing called inspiration.
A/N: This fic is the definition of what a Hallmark movie is. First it takes you on a straight-forward path then BAM! But you gotta love them for that. Remember was originally supposed to be called Deceiving the Moon, but I changed the plot entirely into this one and I can’t but love this version more so now it is Remember. And I hope you’ll remember to enjoy it!
beta-reader(s)-- @birbdae thank you for the praise and the tiny criticisms bby. they made me smile!
The pink paper slip seemed to burn your hand as you held it. The tears in your eyes did nothing to persuade your boss of three years to keep you on the project that you held dear to your heart. The new girl he had hired to replace you couldn’t meet your eyes as she handed you the box filled with your personal belongings from your office space.
“Oh, ____. Before you leave, can you email the final preparations for the toy drive? We would like to get started as soon as possible.”
The bastard smiled up at you as he practically ripped your heart to pieces. The toy drive had been your idea from the start to beginning. You were the program manager as well the assistant to the CEO who had wanted nothing to do with the project until he learned of the tax cut he was able to receive.
Then he replaced and fired you. Now he was asking for your hard work that you manifested.
You had dealt with a lot of shit regarding this company. Racist comments while being the only black woman on the team, being told you hair being in braids was not professional, and being paid the least out of everyone including the new assistant. Yet you had stayed. Your dreams of finally managing to pull off a huge event in your name had made you persevere and smile in the face of the evil work environment.
The dream slowly crumbled as you stared at the assistant, the boss, and the pink slip. There was no way you would give him anything you had created.
“No. Start the entire project yourself. I’m sure your new assistant knows how to program manage. I’ll be taking my toy drive elsewhere. I will not be letting the kids down because of your incompetence and willingness to fire me two months before the charity was supposed to begin. Fuck you.”
The CEO’s smile dropped quickly hearing those words. Perhaps this was a bad idea. But before he could retract his statement of firing the one person he knew he could count on, you left the office, head held high, middle finger in the air.
Three weeks later, the many jobs you had applied for had not replied to you, and your last paycheck from the previous job was slowly dwindling. If nothing came up soon, you wouldn’t be able to afford the rent for the next month.
Your friends Seokjin and Jungkook offered to help; however, your pride was getting in the way and you would only use them as a last resort if you couldn’t find a job in time.
For the time being, you tried to relax and avoid thoughts of the impending bills that threatened to pile up.
Putting on a bonnet and pouring a glass of wine, you prepared to pamper yourself with a little Netflix binge. Seokjin had brought the wine as soon as he had heard about what happened. He worked at Persona and couldn’t believe the unjust condition that had been forced on you. Persona was the best company to work at according to your older friend. He had once tried to convince you to apply there. Yet you hadn’t listened. There might not have been a chance to grow there seeing as many interns went there after graduating like Seokjin, and you prefer not to work with friends. As much as you loved Seokjin, you knew how childish he could be despite the mature attitude he tended to exude. You were the same way. Putting you two together in the same building was a catastrophe waiting to happen.
The day he brought the wine, he told you the CEO--Kim Namjoon- was looking for a new assistant and would more than listen to your project proposal.
Not to mention, he would pay you more than what you received at your old company.
The idea tickled in the back of your mind as you sipped your wine. As much as you would have liked to work somewhere differently, the bills were waving at you in the distance and the employers you had contacted seemed to be uninterested. At least Seokjin could put in a good word for you.
Picking up your phone, you dialed the number you knew well.
“___! “ “Jinnie!” You could hear Jungkook in the background, yelling something that was unclear to you.
“To what do I owe the pleasure? Do you need food? I just made those dumplings that you like so much. I could run them up to you.”
“Please. I haven’t eaten anything all day. But that’s not why I called. I want to know how to apply for the position of the assistant.”
Seokjin audibly gasped and made a sound keen to a squeal.
“You apply by showing up tomorrow in your best business apparel at eight am sharp tomorrow at my doorstep so I can take you for open interview sessions. And bring your portfolio--no resume needed.”
“No resume?”
“Nope.”
“Oh...Alright. Eight am sharp. Best business clothes. Portfolio. Got it. Thank you Jinnie.” “No problem, __. Anything for Jungkook and I’s best friend who tends to steal our hoodies,” he said, a smile practically being heard through his voice.
“Those aren’t your hoodies anymore first of all. Second of all, I don’t steal. I borrow without the possibility of giving it back. Third of all, bring me my food. I’m starving.”
“I’m already at your door. Open up. And Jungkook came here too. He brought that silly game of his.” Hanging up, you stand up to adjust your bonnet and the pajamas you had lounged in. You walked over to the door and opened it to see your friends’ arms full of snacks and games to play for the night.
“We’ll be done with our mini get together for you to get enough sleep and prepare for your interview. Right now, we’re going to help you mope around,” Jungkook told you as both he and his older roommate stepped into your apartment.
“Somehow I doubt it, but I’ll give you the time of day since you brought dumplings.”
All three of you laughed.
The next morning, the alarm blared at six o’ clock. Sitting up and stretching your limbs, you pushed yourself off the bed and into the bathroom. You needed to look your best for the interview and show you were the best candidate. And that started with a nice, hot shower. The lavender soap washed the stress off of your body and the water carried it into the drain.
Jungkook had helped pick out your outfit while Seokjin had helped prepare your portfolio.Your hair was braided, and it was too heavy for you to set it into a bun of some sort, so you let it stay down and applied a little coconut oil.
Everything was ready and set. You were ready.
At exactly eight o’ clock, you stood outside of Jungkook’s and Seokjin’s shared apartment. You could hear shuffling coming from right behind the door, alerting you that Jin was going to open the door. As he swung the door open, you leaned over to see a slightly disheveled Jungkook throwing on his backpack.
“Late for class again?”
He grunted and moved past you.
Jin laughed and locked the door before pushing you towards the exit of the apartment.
“You ready for the open interviews?”
“I think so. Scratch that. I know so.” Your momma always told you confidence was the answer to everything.
“You’ll wow Namjoon. You’re more than qualified and Namjoon could use your ideas. That’s why I said bring your portfolio.” “Thanks.”
The drive to Persona was quick and easy. And loud as Jin played his favorite tunes and sang along to them. It uplifted your spirits and calmed some of the butterflies that blossomed in your stomach. You knew a lot about Namjoon from what Jin told you whenever he came home from work and bothered you.
He was sweet and caring. His employees came first to him and took their opinions seriously. Any criticisms anyone had was dealt with right away as a group or one on one.
On one occasion, an employee’s car was destroyed because of her ex and she couldn’t find a way to work other than Ubers. It began to get too expensive, and she told Namjoon her dilemma. After a brief meeting, he was convinced to begin a carpool service for his employees at no cost to them.
Your old boss was neither of those and only cared for the profits that came. If someone didn’t have a ride to work, it wasn’t his problem.
Namjoon’s handsome according to Jin. Tall, tan, and handsome had been the exact words Seokjin had said. Namjoon’s smile brightened everyone’s day when he smiled and nodded good morning to everyone. He always wore tailored suits--clothes fitting him to a T.
You didn’t necessarily need these details for the interview, but knowing exactly what type of boss Namjoon would be would set your mind to achieve your goal of getting the job through any means.
Seokjin walked you to the door of his boss’s office and knocked twice. A deep voice told you to come in.
The butterflies in your belly picked up full speed. As you tried to calm yourself down, Jin opened the door.
“Namjoon! ____ is here!” Jin announced.
The man in particular was seated at a mahogany desk in a leather chair that seemed much too small for him. As big as he was though, he exuded a calming aura, and not one of arrogance.
He stood up, a huge smile spreading on his face. His dimples were pronounced and it made your heart skip a beat or two. Jin had not mentioned dimples. They were your weakness.
“Thank you Seokjin. You can go get started on your work,” he dismissed the older man and turned to you. “ Hello, Ms ___. A pleasure to speak to you today.” “Um, it’s my pleasure to speak with you as well.”
He circled around back to his chair, and motioned for you to take the chair across from. As you made your way over, you took in the decor of the office. It was bigger than your previous boss’s. There were many statues that you knew were from the KAWS collection. You had a few yourself, but not as many as this man had. The statues were placed in display cases that were scattered around the room. The room was not stark white, and had small bouts of brown and orange around the room. It was unusually calming--helping those butterflies in your belly.
Sitting down, you smiled at the man in front of you, not knowing how to start the interview.
“So I presume Seokjin told you about the position and what I’m expecting, correct?”
“Yes, and I believe that I can do more than what you’re expecting of me.”
Namjoon nodded, “That’s good. An assistant who wants to do more is exactly what I’m looking for. My last assistant was an intern, and though she was great, I wanted a little more. I see you brought a portfolio. Tell me a little about what is in it.”
This was the moment you had prepared for. Even though you had anticipated it to be later in the interview, you knew exactly what to say.
“This portfolio actually contains some of the projects and the work I developed at my previous job. One of them includes a toy drive. I was fortunately able to keep the project for myself, and I planned on getting funding from a local bank in order to kickstart it again. The toy drive would consist of donations and toys I buy myself and giving it to domestic abuse shelters for the mothers and children-”
“When was this supposed to take place?” Namjoon interrupted, curiosity clear in his voice.
“Oh, it was supposed to take place next month. December. It’s a time crunch but I believe I could do it. The other projects were for my boss who couldn’t be bothered to do anything for himself--Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that.”
“Completely fine.” He drummed his long fingers on the table, encasing them in silence for a while.
You hadn’t meant to ramble on about the toy drive, but the passion you felt for the charity event was incredible. Your mother had owned a domestic abuse home, and the amount of women and children who had to spend Christmas hiding away was consistently on your mind. You wanted to do something for them.
“___?”
“Yes?” You steeled yourself for another question.
“On the basis that you continue this toy drive, and it is successful--I have a feeling it will be--the job is yours.”
You practically jumped out of your seat, grabbing Namjoon’s hand and shaking it in excitement.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! You will not be disappointed. I will be the best assistant to you and this toy drive means too much to me for it to fail.”
Namjoon grinned, his dimples showing out again. “You can talk to Jung Hoseok in the HR department. He’ll get you ready to be an employee of Persona. I want you to work tomorrow morning.”
Nodding, you moved to stand up and leave before remembering to bow in respect.
“Thank you so much.”
“No, thank you. Not only will I have some of this paperwork done, but I’ll be getting very good advertisement for the company. It’s a win-win.”
“Right. How much paperwork do you have exactly?”
“It’s been about two months since my intern left, so…” He trailed off, running a hand through his hair.
“I’ll be here bright and early then,” you said giggling. “See you tomorrow.”
Closing the door behind you, you glanced around for your best friend. You found him near the coffee machine in the far corner. As you sidled next to him, you poked him, making him jump.
“___! That didn’t take too long. How did it go?”
“We should probably wake up early enough to eat breakfast before we both have to be at work.”
The news took a minute to register in his brain. He took your hands and brought you in for a hug.
“I told you you’d get it! And no, we’re not waking up that early. We can breakfast here--there’s an all-day buffet set up in the kitchen. Speaking of, you might not even know where that is, so I’ll have to give you a tour of the place. But there’s a few hours til I have a lunch break.”
“It’s fine. I have to go to HR anyway and fill out some paperwork.”
“Min Yoongi was just about to go there. Weren’t you?” Seokjin turned towards the stranger in question. Min Yoongi had been completely hidden from you because of Jin’s broad shoulders.
“Uh, yeah. I can take her.”
Yoongi held two cups of coffee in his hands and a manila folder tucked into his armpit. He was only missing a bluetooth speaker in his ear and you can say he looked like all of the clients your previous company dealt with. He was handsome with pale skin and droopy brown eyes.
You gave him a small smile, and let him lead the way to HR. It was a few floors down so you had to take the elevator. It was a slow ride down.
“What’s your name by the way?”
“I’m ____. Just got hired.”
“Min Yoongi. You already know that though. I’m a financial analyst.”
“Sounds cool. How long have you been working here?”
“I was hired last year. I’m assuming you know Seokjin?”
“Yeah, I’m his best friend.”
The conversation came to an awkward pause. Thankfully, the elevator arrived on your floor and Yoongi led you to the office of Jung Hoseok before heading off in the other direction.
Jung Hoseok was seated behind a desk; his eyes were focused on the computer screen in front of him. He glanced away from his computer to focus on you and smiled.. Everyone here at Persona seemed to have easygoing smiles and it helped settle any uneasiness you had about accepting the job and getting to know your new co-workers. You had rarely interacted with any of your former coworkers outside of meetings. You hoped to change that.
“I’m assuming you’re ___? I have the paperwork on that table over there. Salary information, bank information, the usual. Please fill it out and I will have you as an employee in no time. Take as much time as you need--I won’t be going anywhere soon.”
The paperwork was easy to fill out, taking only a few minutes of your time. You would be paid more than what you were being paid at your former job. You had thirteen vacation days and thirteen sick days, totaling twenty-six days in all for you to take care of yourself. You couldn’t remember the last time you had actually been able to stay home from work for even having a rough day. There was an employee handbook at the end of the stack that you would take home and read.
“I’m done.”
Hoseok startled, having forgotten you were in the room from how silent you were. You handed him the papers and promptly sat back down, avoiding all conversation with him. He reminded you of everything you didn’t want in coworkers.
It took him at least twenty minutes to get you into the system. He turned to you with the prettiest smile on his face.
“Congratulations! You’re now an employee of Persona. I’ll have an ID ready for you tomorrow when you come in. I’ll meet you in Namjoon’s office.”
Working with Namjoon was poles apart from working with your old boss. He didn’t give you an ungodly amount of work to do just because he could. He let you catch up on the work that had yet to be completed by his intern and gave you enough time to plan the toy drive.
You’d get so into your work, you’d lose track of time and he would have to guide you out of the office to eat lunch. He treated you to many lunches on several occasions always saying it was in his best interest to keep his assistant fed. You felt it was for more than that.
Namjoon was very attractive and was definitely your type. Boss-employee relationships only worked out in fanfictions and movies unfortunately. And there was the small detail of the employee handbook strictly advocating for non-relations in the office.
You’d discern a hint of flirtiness whenever he complimented your outfit for the day. Of course, you thanked him. But you refused to flirt back. There was no point in indulging in the flirting game. He was your boss and that’s all he would be for as long as you had this job.
Biting into a sandwich that you brought for lunch, you go over the email once more. It was an email for the employees of the company to donate any toy they could. The deadline was the 24th considering everyone had Christmas off. A week and then the children could have a special Christmas filled with toys and cheer. You only needed Namjoon to approve it and send it off. You had asked Park Jimin, who was part of the marketing team, to create little animations for you. They were the cutest things ever and made the email a lot more friendlier. A snowman waved, there was snowfall, and even Santa bringing a toy to a child. Jimin had completely outdone himself for you.
Namjoon would be back from lunch in a couple of minutes, so you decided to sit in his office and wait for him. It was only next door to your office so you didn’t mind and you could straighten up his filing while you were in there.
Soon you were lost in the work of rearranging his file system. It was weird to see that man was usually always well-kept, but his organization skills were a little lackluster. No wonder he hired you on the spot. A picture was at the bottom of the file cabinet--Namjoon didn’t want everything to be on the computer for emergencies. Picking it up, you see a dimpled child with his arms around what you assumed was his mother. His face was covered in chocolate but you knew that it was a young Namjoon. They were sitting at a table filled with different foods and you could make out a Christmas tree in the background. A familiar tree.
You had spent many hours and years in front of that tree. It belonged to your mother’s shelter. Your favorite ornament to hang on it was a Strawberry Shortcake ornament that your father had given you before the three of you moved to South Korea. That's how you recognized the tree. The ornament hung low from the Christmas tree exactly where you always put it. Namjoon had been there. You couldn’t remember ever meeting him considering you always spent your Christmases in the shelter with the families.
You would have recalled seeing dimples as deep as his.
A tiny gasp alerted you that you were being nosey.
“Namjoon! I’m sorry. I was just re-organizing the cabinet. I didn’t mean to pry..but I found out something you might want to hear.”
“And what would that be?” His tone wasn’t angry but it still had a little attitude.
“You used to stay at my mom’s shelter. Small world,” you started to giggle before realizing what exactly his and his mother’s staying truly meant. “Maybe you don’t want to hear that.”
To your astonishment, Namjoon smiled at you. A small one but your heart still fluttered. He wasn’t entirely mad at you.
“Yeah. When Seokjin mentioned you for the position, I instantly recognized your name. I wanted to hire you right then. You had been so nice to me and my mother that it stuck with me for all these years. Obviously you don’t remember me as much as I remember you though.”
“It’s probably because I’ve been so focused on the toy drive. I really want to surprise them this year. It’s the most I can do to show them that they’re not completely alone in the world. That people are thinking of them and want to help them.” “And I think this gesture would make everyone happy. I know I would have loved something like this.”
“And I would have gladly given it to you. But I was only ten years old at the time. But for right now, I need you to approve this mass email that advertises the donations of toys.”
Namjoon let out a guttural laugh and sat in his chair to review the email.
It was the 24th--the final day of the donation drive. Your co-workers had been dropping off toys since the email went out. The storage room on your floor was filled to the brim and you were beyond ecstatic. There were doll-houses, kitchenettes, monster trucks, board games, painting sets, bicycles (with the training wheels), and even things for the older kids staying at the shelter. Namjoon had thought some of the toys could even go to another shelter in the city. You decided to pick a homeless shelter knowing there were a few kids there as well.
Namjoon had helped you rent a truck for the day that would aid in loading and transporting the toys across the city to the shelters. Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, Hoseok, Yoongi, and the new intern, Taehyung, had offered to help as well. You were grateful for the help and thanked each of them for giving up a portion of their Christmas to help you deliver the toys.
Loading the truck took hours as there were many toys. You treated everyone to a few drinks and dinner for all the help they were giving you.
“Here’s to seeing the smiling faces on the children tomorrow when we deliver the toys!”
Throwing back the shot glass of soju, you whooped and whistled along with the men around you. The plan wasn’t to drink too much as you had to be up bright and early in order to deliver the toys to both shelters in time before the children woke up.
The shelter leaders had already promised to try and keep them from going near the tree before nine that morning.
After eating, you all made your way to your cars--of course you had back with Seokjin and Jungkook. You reminded everyone to meet at the office. You and Namjoon would be driving the truck, while everyone else trailed after you in their cars.
The morning could not come soon enough for you.
Waking up wasn’t hard for you at all. The exhilaration coursing through your body was enough to get you to hop off the bed and into the showers without so much as a grown. The bonnet you had placed on your head the night before had kept your hair in tip top shape as usual. You could always trust a bonnet.
Finger combing out the curls that had flattened a little through the night, your afro soon came to its puffy and natural state of bouncy curls.
You rushed to put on the ugly sweater outfit you had bought for this occasion before rushing out of the door, colliding into Jungkook and Jin. They, like you, were excited for the day ahead of you.
The three of you packed yourself into Jin’s car and blasted Mariah Carey’s Christmas album for the short ride to Persona.
The rest of your group was already waiting for you. Jimin had made hot chocolate for the lot of you, and after a brief moment of making sure the toys were all packed into the truck, Namjoon and you climbed into the front seats, and took off.
Namjoon was singing off-key to ‘What Do the Lonely Do on Christmas’--a classic love of yours--creating a symphony of giggles from you. The Christmas cheer was big in all of you, especially the tall giant that is Namjoon. He was showing a much goofier side of him that you would have loved to see more of in the office. The man was carefree most of the time, but he always held this air of seriousness. You couldn’t help but wonder if his childhood had created some of that.
The shelter was slowly moving into your vision as you got closer and closer. You heartbeat picked up, realizing just how much you missed being here with your mom and dad. They were some of the best memories you could ever have. However, your mom began to think that the shelter wasn’t the best place for you to grow up in and made you stay with your father at home or in his office. You had always come back, but it was always too crowded and the children never wanted to play with you since you were in high school. You thought it was because they couldn’t relate to you since you hadn’t been in their position.
Namjoon pulled into the drive of your mother’s shelter, parking the car to where the trunk faced the door for easy access.
Your mother was waiting for you at the front door and gave you a tight hug.
“Hey baby girl! I’ve been waiting for you. The kids are going to love waking up to these.”
“I know Mama,’ you turned to introduce the boys. A bashful Namjoon was already behind you.
“I’m not sure if you remember but this is Kim Namjoon. He used to stay here.”
It took your mother a minute to recognize him. He had grown up so much from the scrawny little one he used to be. Always hiding under his mother unless he was playing with you.
“Well, I’ll be damned. Kim Namjoon. Son of Kim Eunha. Boy, look at you! Come here and give me a hug,” your mother said, her southern drawl prominent in her voice. She pulled Namjoon into a hug, making the huge man blush a deep red.
Holding back a giggle, you stuttered, “Mama! Mama! Let him go. We gotta get the toys out the truck or the kids are going to see nine Santas putting toys under the tree. And it’ll just ruin everything.”
“You’re right. But I won’t be helping,” she laughed. “Y’all have fun with that. Imma go make some cookies.”
You shook your head, laughing. Namjoon was laughing as well, indicating he remember just how boisterous your mother could be.
“It’s a black mother thing,” you told him.
Unloading the toys didn’t take as long as loading them did to all of your surprise. The toys that were to be taken to the other shelter stayed in. Namjoon and you were staying here while the rest of the boys took those.
The living room of the shelter was filled with toys for the little girls and boys, and you couldn’t be happier. For years, it had only been a few toys under there. Most of them had been from your family but you couldn’t afford too many.
Your ornament on the tree was in the same place it always was. It was slowly losing a few of its colours, but Strawberry Shortcake could still be made out.
“The famous Strawberry Shortcake. You know, I asked you if I could put it on the year I stayed here. You let me.”
The memory popped up as soon as he said it.
You were both tired from running around in the snow for hours until Jack Frost started nipping at your noses. You only had enough energy to fix up the tree. Namjoo had asked to put it on, and you almost threw a fit before recalling why he was here. You obliged, and saw how happy it made him.
“I did. You looked so happy. I think I wanted to kiss you.”
“We did. Right under that mistletoe.”
Blushing, you turned towards where Namjoon pointed and saw the old mistletoe your father put out to trick your mother into kissing him. He put it in the same place knowing she would stop right under it: the entrance to the kitchen.
“Oh wow. Why am I just now remembering that. We had no idea what we were doing and you even bit me!”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Yeah, you totally bit me,” the shriek of laughter you let out was enough to wake the entire shelter, but the memory was too amusing. How had you forgotten it?
Before he could think of apologizing for the mishap and offer to re-do it, the laughter and shrieks of children waking up and bounding down the stairs interrupted the both of you.
“Santa came! Santa came! Wow! Look a bike!”
Various gasps and squeals exploded through the living room. The mothers all had cups of hot chocolate, holding back tears of appreciation. Some of the older kids noticed the tablets that had been laid out on the “big kid” table and were soon immersed in figuring out who would get what.
Your heart squeezed seeing all the happiness unfold around you. This was what you wanted. Just a day for the children and mothers to have a little hope.
You picked up a gift that you had bought personally the day after seeing that Namjoon had stayed at the shelter. You had lied and said that you hadn’t remembered everything. But you remembered this one.
“Namjoon!” You held out the present for you. It was wrapped in spiderman paper wrapping but it was all you had left.
He tore it open with vigor and let out a tiny gasp seeing what it was.
“You remembered?”
“Yep. It was my pinky promise before I left. I always keep my promises.”
It was a leather notebook with a fountain pen. It was something that he could easily buy himself but you recollected the exact conversation you had years ago before leaving the shelter.
“Oh, you’re leaving ___?”
“Yeah,” you kicked at a frozen rock, “Mama thinks it’s not safe for me to be here right now. So I’ll be spending time with my Dad in his office from now on. I’ll still come here though. This place means a lot to me. “
“Cool. I won’t be after next week though. My mom finally found a place for the two of us.”
“Aw, I’ll miss you. You owe me another kiss.”
“”And I’ll miss you. I promise you another kiss if you promise me a leather book with a fountain pen.”
The surprised look on your face made him laugh.
“Uhm, why a leather book with a fountain pen?”
“I want to be a business owner one day. A leather book and fountain pen are fancy and I’ve seen your dad use one.” “It keeps him organized according to Mama. But I doubt it. Dad would lose his head if it wasn’t attached to his body.”
You both laughed and pinky promised.
As much as you didn’t like boss-relationships, you had known Namjoon since your childhood technically. And you would like to get to know him more. Obviously your relationship was going to bloom had you two not been separated.
Not to mention, he had let you finish the toy drive. Had it not been for him remembering who you were and loving your idea, you wouldn’t have been able to do it. Working for him was a Christmas miracle if you said so yourself.
It was meant to be.
“I think you owe me something now.”
Namjoon placed both of his hands on your hips, bringing you in closer to him. His smile showed you the dimples you had come to love to see.
“I promise this time with no biting.”
Namjoon’s index and thumb lifted your chin up and his soft lips pressed against yours.
Around you, the kids were tumbling around with their new toys and the teenagers were still fussing over the electronics.
But the kiss is all that mattered.
Merry Christmas to you.

My Only Sunshine - Chapter 1
Liv is as human as they come – faults and all. After a dark experience in her past, she is determined to live life on her own terms, and never let anyone claim her as theirs again. This becomes an issue, when she meets a 1000-yearold vampire, who is dead-set on claiming her as his own.
TW: Blood
It was a warm night, and I was wearing my favorite summer dress, seated on a velvet couch, in an old house.
“Well, miss Sunday. Thank you very much for coming all the way out here to speak to me. I’ll go over your resumé one more time, but I think I’ve heard all I need”. The dark-haired, pale man gave me a friendly smile. I knew better than to reach out my hand for him to shake, and simply got up to stand, and nodded at him. “Thank you, Mr. Compton”, I smiled. “Just let me know if there’s anything else you need… So, interview over?”. “Interview’s over”, he said. “Good! Calling you Mr. Compton was getting weird!”, I laughed. “Well, you did insist”. “It was a job-interview. It was only proper”, I shrugged.
Bill Compton walked me to his front door, and I was about to say goodbye, when he halted, just before going for the doorknob. “There is one thing, I wanted to ask you; and seeing as you’ve been so forthcoming with me, on everything else…”. The vampire narrowed his eyes at me. “What?”, I said. “Why did you decide to apply for the position as my day-person?”, he asked. I smiled embarrassedly. “Honestly… I need the money”, I said. “I’ve been hoping to pay down my student loan, but taking up extra shifts down at Merlotte’s just isn’t cutting it”.
“That’s not what I meant”, he said. “You just don’t strike me as the type of person to take a job for a vampire”. He raised an intrigued brow at me. “Not enough fang marks on me?”, I chuckled. The vampire chuckled, and it seemed that if he’d been able to blush, he would have. “You’re offering a good salary for what seems like an easy job; and one that I can do while still staying on with Sam. The fact that you’re a vampire doesn’t really matter to me”. “Why not?”, he asked. “Why should it?”, I retorted. “Some might say it’s dangerous to work for one of us”, the vampire said. “You’re no more likely to hurt me than any other vampire around – or human for that matter”, I said. “Besides; Sookie speaks highly of you, and I trust her”. “Well, she speaks highly of you as well”, he said.
He seemed to think for a moment, before coming to a conclusion. “If you want this job, it’s yours”, he said. My jaw dropped. “Really?”, I asked. The vampire confirmed it with a nod. “Thank you, Bill. You won’t regret it…! One thing, though… Day-person? Can’t we call it… secretary? Or assistant?”. He chuckled warmly as he opened the door for me to leave. “Please come by tomorrow. I’ll have a list for you with some things I need handled”, Bill said, as I went down the steps of the porch. “8 pm?”, I asked. “That sounds perfect”, Bill said. “See you then”. He handed me back the “resumé”, which I’d written on the back of a paper placemat from Merlotte’s. As I took it, I got a slight papercut on my finger. “Shit”, I muttered. Bill smiled slightly. “Would you like me to fetch you a band-aid?”. “Nah…”, I said, and looked at the trickle of blood. “You hungry?”, I teased. “I think Sookie might have a problem with me feeding from a friend”. “Alright”, I shrugged.
I began fishing my car keys out of my bag, and cursed to myself, as they fell from my hand, and landed in the gravel on the ground. I was about to crouch to pick them up; when I felt a gush of wind, and suddenly stood nose to chest with a very tall man. I had to tilt my head back to look him in the eyes. They were bright blue, and had a sharpness to them. “Hello”, he said, a cheery mischievous tone to his voice. “Hi”, I said, and went to pick up my keys again. The man – vampire, I realized – held them out to me, before I even so much as bent over. “Fuck, you’re fast”, I gasped. He put the keys in my outstretched hand, and grabbed my wrist, to look at my bleeding finger. “When I want to be”, he smiled. “Bill, who is this? Introduce us”.
Bill stepped of his porch, and walked warily towards us. “Eric Northman… This is Liv Sunday”. I found it hard to break eye contact with the tall vampire, mostly because he was one of the most handsome people I’d ever met. “Liv”, Eric said. He dragged out the sound of my name, pronouncing it Leev. “Yours…? She smells… pure”. I managed to look away, and turned my gaze to Bills face instead. His jaw was clenched. “My assistant”, Bill repeated, put a hand on my arm, and went to stand half way in front of me. The tall vampire let go of my wrist. “Off limits”. “I’m a big girl, Bill", I said. “I can speak for myself". “Yes, she’s a big girl, Bill", Eric smiled. “Let her speak for herself". I frowned at the tall vampire, and shook my head. “That means you too, Vlad", I said. A grin ghosted his face.
Eric leaned his head forwards, and burrowed his eyes even deeper into mine. “Liv… You’re interesting”, he said. “Please. Tell me more about you”. “Eric!”, Bill growled. “Why have you come?”. “To discuss matters surrounding the conference. It is election year, after all”, the other vampire replied, never taking his eyes off mine. “Now stop interrupting my conversation with… Liv”. The vampire-testosterone was heavy in the air, and I swallowed hard. “Maybe some other time”, I said. “Oh come now…”, Eric smiled, his eyes digging even deeper. I frowned at him. “I said no!”, I sneered. The tall vampire seemed taken aback, and Bills eyes widened. “Ok… I’m just gonna go”, I said.
Bill followed me all the way over to my car, and held the door for me as I climbed in. I opened the window to let some air into the cabin. “Drive safely now”, Bill said. “See you at 8 tomorrow. I’ll give your regards to Sookie”. Eric smiled at me. “It was nice meeting you, Liv”, he said. “Until next time”. His intense gaze made heat pool in my lower stomach, and I had to consciously tell myself to put the key in the ignition.
I drove home to my one-bedroom rental feeling happy that I’d nailed my job interview; and stirred from meeting Eric. I supposed he always had that influence on people; Bill probably just turned his mojo down, because he had Sookie, and didn’t need to impress people in the same way. Bill was the second vampire I’d met that I’d actually spoken to, since they came out of the coffin. Eric was the third, so I didn’t have much to compare him too; but I read magazines as much as the next person.
When I got inside, I took a cold shower; trying to shake the meeting out of my system. Before I climbed into bed, I checked my messages, and saw that Sookie had sent me a text, congratulating me on my new side-gig with Bill. I sent her one back, thanking her for hooking me up with the interview.
Sookie had been a good friend every since I got to town. I’d been down on my luck since leaving San Diego; but Bon Temps had been good to me so far. I had a waitressing job at Merlotte’s, on top of the one I’d just gotten with Bill – taking care of the things he needed done during the daylight – and some good friends in Sookie and Bill; and even my other boss; Sam. I’d even go so far as calling Sookies brother, Jason, a friend – even if he did try getting me into bed with him, whenever he could. I think the fact that I was so fervent in my dismissal of him, made him have some weird kind of respect for me. I was happy – settled, even. The last thing I needed was some blonde hottie trying to get in my pants; it didn’t matter if his name was Jason Stackhouse – or Eric Northman for that matter.
---
I slept in the next day, as my meeting with Bill had been quite late – or should I say, early, as I’d not been home until 3 am. My shift at the bar was a slow one, which was good for Terry, who was having one of his bad days in the kitchen. All 6 hours dragged along in a manner so boring, it was a relief when 7 pm. came along, and Arlene came to take over from me.
Arriving back at the Compton house, I was met in the door by Sookie. “Hey, Liv! Come on in!”, she grinned. “Bill’s in the living room”. “Is it your night off, Sook’?”, I asked. “Uh huh”, she said. “Bill’s taking me to dinner”. We walked into the living room, where Bill was waiting, with a somber look on his face. “Liv… I would like to apologize for Erics behavior last night”, he said. “He didn’t do anything wrong”, I said. “It’s not the first time someone’s flirted with me”. “Eric Northman flirted with you?”, Sookie chuckled. “And you didn’t end up with your legs around his waist?”. I mock scoffed. “I am a lady”, I said. “I tend to throw them around a man’s neck first”. Sookie punched my shoulder. “Slut!”, she grinned.
Bill looked very seriously at the both of us. “This is no laughing matter, ladies. Eric glamoured you!”, he said. I shook my head in confusion. “He didn’t…”, I said. “I saw him… He was using his glamour on you”, Bill repeated fervently. “I really don’t think he did. At least I didn’t feel anything happening”, I tried again. “Jeez… I worked for you for five minutes; and you’re already acting like my daddy”, I said.
The vampire looked confused, but Sookie broke the tension, by reminding him they had reservations. “You’re right, of course; sweetheart”, Bill said, and took a piece of paper from the coffee-table. “I made this list for you. On the top here is making an appointment with an electrician. I’ve been having some flickering lights in the kitchen. Of course, I don’t use it much, but I do want it working… Then there’s this case of TruBlood O-neg. The all-night supermarket won’t be getting another shipment for at least a week, and I can’t…”. “Honey? We’re late!”, Sookie sighed. “Where are you going?”, I asked. “A place in Shreveport. Ky-auntie”, Sookie smiled. “Chianti”, Bill said. “And you’re right. Let’s go”.
We all left the house, and walked to our respective cars, when I remembered something. “Hold up!”, I called out. I ripped some of the paper from the list, and quickly wrote down my phone number with an eyeliner from my purse. I ran over to Bill with it. “Here. You never got my number. Just in case anything else comes up”, I said. “Thank you”, Bill smiled. “Any big plans for you tonight?”, he asked. “I have a date with my neighbor’s cat. At least I think he belongs to my neighbor. He might be a stray… We eat tuna together on Thursdays”, I sighed. “I thought you were allergic to cats”, Sookie said from inside the BMW. “Our love is complex… and I take pills”, I said. “Go on now. Have fun”.
I waved them off, as they drove away; and got into my own car. It stalled a few times, before finally starting up, and I could drive home – just in time for my date with Mr. Whiskers. He was only mildly annoyed when I came out the back door 3 minutes late, with his bowl. “Sorry I’m late, honey”, I said. “I had a vampire to tend to”. The cat wailed at me, and attacked the tuna like it hadn’t eaten in weeks.
I lit a cigarette, and sat down on the steps, leaning against the screen door, reading a magazine. Some of my neighbors were having a party, and I enjoyed the music coming out of the window. It was a warm night, but not many mosquitos around. I was happy to be left alone from the little bloodsuckers, when my phone vibrated, and I found myself summoned by a large one. - Need you in Shreveport asap. Bill
I frowned at the phone. - I’m your day person. Nights are off limits.
- Fangtasia. Be there in an hour.
- Remind me to ask for a raise BOSS!, I replied; stomped out my smoke, and went back into the house to look up the address of whatever the hell Fangtasia was. Google let me know it was a vampire bar. Dinner must have been over quickly, and Bill had probably taken Sookie for a drink. I looked down at the attire I was currently wearing, and decided that if Bill insisted on being a jerk-boss, I’d be a jerk employee; and show up in cut off shorts, and ABBA t-shirt – that was fifty sizes to big, and hung off my shoulder – hopefully embarrassing him in front of his friends.
I cursed at Bill all the way to Shreveport. “Stupid vampire, ruining my date with Mr. Whiskers”, I muttered to myself, as I parked my rusty car next to a flashy convertible on the parking lot of the bar. There was a line down to the door, going all the way around the corner of the building. A blonde woman with a bored expression on her face stood at the entrance, turning away anyone she didn’t see fit for entry. I sent Bill a text, letting him know I was outside, and had no intention of waiting in line. He’d have to meet me in the lot.
I leaned against my car, kicking at a stray paper cup on the ground, when a cold finger poked my shoulder. I looked up into the face of the blonde woman. She was striking up close. “Liv Sunday?”, she said, sounding as bored as she looked. “Yeah?”, I said. She gave me an insincere smile. “Follow me…”.
She led me to the entrance of the bar, and a burly doorman lifted the red rope for us so we could walk inside. A song with heavy bass was leading some scantily clad dancers on podiums, and the air was heavy with cheap perfume and sexual frustration. The blonde led me to a table, and waved over a black clad waitress. “Order whatever you want on the house. Ginger will sort you out”, she said. The waitress smiled brightly at me. I shook my head. “No, I’m here to meet Bill”, I said confusedly. The woman rolled her eyes, and walked away. I would have given her the finger, if I wasn’t worried, she’d bite it off. “What can I get you?”, the waitress, Ginger, asked. “The most expensive thing you have that isn’t blood”, I sighed. “Long Island Ice Tea, coming right up!”, she grinned, and walked away; tugging at her tiny top as she did.
I took my phone out of my pocket, and saw I had a new text from a number I didn’t know. - Hello Liv. This is Bill Compton. I would like to extend my gratitude to you for accepting the position as my assistant. I’m writing this as Sookie is powdering her nose; as to not interrupt our evening together. Could I please ask you to add to the list, that I need to get in touch with a florist who knows where to get some sunflowers? Sookie likes them. Thank you very much.
I was deeply confused at this point, and not a little worried. If Bill hadn’t been the one to summon me to Fangtasia, then I was currently in a strange bar, surrounded by vampires, without a companion; just sitting around like a delicious crab leg on a buffet table. Sure, there were humans around, but they all seemed more focused on getting the attention of vampires, than helping me out, if needed be. I texted Sookie. - What’s Bills number? I think someone texted me, pretending to be him.
She responded quickly. - Who? Are you ok? Where are you?
I wrote back. - No idea. I’m in some place called Fangtasia.
I was still holding my phone, when Ginger returned with my drink, and set it down. She seemed about to say something to me; when suddenly she bowed reverently. “Master…”, she said, sounding like she was having a strange sort of orgasm.
I looked up, and saw that Eric Northman was standing by the table, with the blonde female vampire next to him. He gave me a slight smile, and sat down across from me; relaxing against the backrest of the chair. “Jag är inte din budbärare, bare för at du vil knulla en liten människa!”. The blonde seemed annoyed, but I didn’t understand her words. “Slapna av, Pam. Det här är annorlunda”, Eric said. “Fika på hende, då. I don’t give a shit. Just don’t ask me again”, she snarled. ”Pamela!”, Eric said firmly. “Leave us”.
“What’s up her ass?”, I muttered. “Pam doesn’t take it up the ass; she gives it”, Eric said matter-of-factly. I narrowed my eyes at him. “You texted me…”, I said. “I did”, Eric said. “Go away, Ginger”. The waitress backed away, her eyes still on the floor. “Master. Yes, master”. I raised my brows. “Wow…”. I met Erics eyes hesitantly. “Why am I here?”. “Because I wanted to see you…”, he said. He dipped a finger into my drink, and licked it. “Don’t drink this. Someone put drugs in it”.
I swallowed hard – a sudden flashback striking me, taking me to a place I didn’t want to go. “Liv?”, Eric said. “What?”, I snapped. The vampire seemed taken aback. “You’re very brave”, he said. “I don’t know what you mean”, I muttered. “Speaking to me like that… and the text you sent me back, when you thought I was Bill. You obviously don’t know a lot about vampires”. I shrugged, trying my best to seem at ease with the conversation.
“How did you get my number?”, I asked; pushing the drink away gingerly. “I’m not listed”. “I flew over Bills house, as you wrote it down”, Eric said. “I have very good eyesight. You used a .01 Ultra Black eyeliner”. “That’s kind of creepy”, I said. “You’re a flying, creepy guy”. Eric laughed heartily, the sound coming from deep within his chest. “You’re funny”, he said. “It’s like you have no sense of self-preservation”. “Well, I figure you didn’t go through all the trouble of flying over Bills house to get my number; just so you could kill me”, I said. “At least… I hope you didn’t”. Eric looked towards the bar, at the tender behind it. “Chow, get her a fresh one. Make sure it’s drug free”, he said, so quietly, I almost didn’t hear it. I realized the bartender must be a vampire as well; that was the only way he’d be able to hear him. “You don’t have to… I’m fine, really”. “It’s no trouble", Eric assured me. “This is my bar after all. It’s in my interest to keep the patrons happy". “I’m not a patron…”, I said.
Eric ignored my words. “Your t-shirt… I like it”, he said. “I’m related to the blonde, you know…”. “You’re Swedish?”, I asked. A fresh drink appeared in front of me, and I looked at it hesitantly. “It’s safe”, Eric said. “Yes, I’m originally from Sweden…”. “So, you were speaking… Swedish, before?”. Eric nodded. “You name, Liv; it’s actually the Swedish word for life”. “Huh…”, I muttered. “I always thought it was kind of geriatric”. Erics eyes lit up with a mischievous glint. “Quite the opposite… It suits you. You seem full of life”. I cleared my throat uncomfortably, and took a sip from the straw. The drink was delicious. “And… when are you from? If you don’t mind me asking”. “Are you asking how old I am?”, Eric smiled. I blushed, and took a second sip. “I am a little over 1000 years old”.
I choked on my drink, and suddenly, Eric was next to me; gently patting my back with one hand, and holding mine with the other. “Are you alright?”, he said worriedly. “Yeah, I’m fine”, I croaked. I looked up into his eyes, and saw true concern. “Really”, I smiled. Eric sat back down on the chair opposite me; still holding on to my hand. His own was cool, but not cold. I guessed he’d recently fed.
I bit my lip. “Are you really 1000 years old?”, I asked in a whisper. “Yes”, Eric confirmed. “I was a Viking”. My eyes widened. “Like with the… pillaging, plundering and… raping?”, I said. Eric smiled smugly. “I didn’t need to rape to bed a woman; or a man for that matter”. “Huh…”, I said; and took a deep sip from my drink. “Well, you do have that tall, blonde and handsome thing going for you”. He ran his thumb over my knuckles. “You find me handsome?”, he said. “Every person in this room finds you handsome”, I retorted; rolling my eyes. I looked towards a nearby table, where a young woman with obviously dyed black hair was starring at us. When her eyes darted towards me, she looked like she wanted to scratch my eyes out.
“Tell me about you…”, Eric said. “Why?”, I asked. “Because it’s only fair”, the viking-vampire said. “In the last ten minutes, I’ve told you my age, occupation, sexual orientation; and I’ve saved you from getting drugged". I was painfully aware that Eric probably had a million different ways of getting what he wanted from me, but for some strange reason, I didn’t think he’d use any of them. Not yet anyway. None the less, I still didn’t see his reason for wanting to know. “I meant, why are you asking?”, I said.
Eric played absentmindedly with my fingers – or maybe not so absentmindedly; as he seemed to know exactly where and how to stroke my fingers in a way, that sent signals straight to my core. "You’re interesting“, he said. “And Bill interrupted me before I could finish my glamour on you, to get you to tell me". I chuckled softly. “You didn’t glamour me", I said. “Of course I did", Eric retorted. “Sorry, but I think you have little too much faith in your own abilities“.
He let go of my hand, and sat back straight in his chair. For a long time, he didn’t speak, just starred at me, before his pupils suddenly dilated, and a tranquil and yet almost flirtatious expression spread over his face. “Liv…”, he said softly. “Tell me; what’s your favorite sexual position?”. My jaw dropped. “That’s absolutely none of your business!”, I growled. Eric looked completely confused, and even paler than his usual pasty shade. He furrowed his brows, and moved his head forwards; almost crouching in his chair, as to reach my eye-level. “You want to tell me, Liv", he said, his voice alluring. Abso-fucking-lutely I wanted to tell him; but not under our current circumstances. As it was, Eric was being completely inappropriate, and I had no intention of continuing our conversation. I stood up. “Thanks for the drink. Now, if you don’t mind, please go to hell".
I walked towards the door, and made it halfway through the crowd, when suddenly, Eric was standing in front of me. He looked almost enraged, and towered over me menacingly; starring into my eyes so hard, I could almost feel it physically. “Liv. You want to tell me about yourself", he boomed. “I want to go home!”, I hissed, trying to pass the imposing vampire. He moved slightly, making me have to brush against his chest with my shoulder. Eric’s hand was suddenly on my upper arm. I froze in place, as he lifted my hair slightly, breathing in my scent. “What are you?”, he asked in a low voice, his cool breath sending annoyingly pleasurable shivers down my spine. I looked up into his eyes again; and jumped a bit, when his fangs popped out. The deepest, darkest part of me wanted to put my finger to one of them, and see how sharp they were.
“Eric!”, Bills voice boomed over the music. Sookie came out from behind him, walked straight up to the 6’4 inches vampire, and hit him over the shoulder with her purse. “Looks like that’s two dates you’ve ruined tonight”, I said. Eric smiled. “But ours was going so well”, he said; his fangs retracting again. “This wasn’t a date…”, I said. “This was you tricking me into meeting you”, I hissed. “You had another date tonight?”, he asked, darkness ghosting his face. I gave him a sarcastic smile, and pulled my arm out of his grasp, stomping out of the club, past Pam. She looked amused at the situation, and stepped back to let me get to the parking lot.
With shaking hands, I opened my car door. Bill and Sookie weren’t far behind me. “I am very sorry, Liv”, Bill said. “Had I known there was a chance Eric would…”. “Forget it, Bill”, I said. “I’ll take care of the things on your list tomorrow. Right now, I just want to go home… I’m sorry I ruined your date”. “It’s not your fault”, Sookie said earnestly. “Do you want us to follow you home in Bills car?”. “No, I’ll be fine… Just, go salvage whatever you can of your night”, I said. I gave Sookie a half hug, and nodded at Bill.
Eric was staring at my car, as I drove away. I saw him exchanging a few words with Pam, before he went back inside Fangtasia.
---
I had the next day off from Merlotte’s, and after I – once again – slept in, I had plenty of time to take care of my errands for Bill. When I got back home from having dropped of a case of O-neg on his porch, I texted him the info of an electrician and a florist who could help him out with his other requirements.
My mail had arrived while I was gone, and as I got ready for a night of serving beer, I looked through the bills and catalogues; finding among them an envelope without sender. Inside was a picture of a young woman in a seductive pose, wearing very little. I recognized myself immediately. It had been taken my last night at my old job at Sugar and Spice – a night I didn’t remember much from, due to a drink I should never have accepted. I almost fell into a kitchen chair, and shuddered. I put my hand to my chest, remembering the wound I’d earned that night.
He’d found me. I wasn’t surprised. Though my number and address weren’t listed, if Thomas wanted something, he’d get it; he had a way of talking himself in to things. Either that, or he’d use brute force. The thing that made me confused, was the fact that Thomas wasn’t even supposed to remember me. I was supposed to be just another dancer he’d taken pictures of, at the club.
I was startled when my phone suddenly rang. I picked it up, when I saw it was Sam. “Hey…”, I croaked. “Hey, Luce’… I’m really sorry to ask you this, but Coby has the mumps, and Arlene needs to…”. “You need me tonight?”, I asked, almost hopefully. I didn’t want to be alone. “You’d be doing me a big favor…”, Sam said. “I’ll be there”. “Thanks, cher’. I’ll give you tomorrow off instead”, he replied in a relieved voice. “No problem what so ever”, I said. “I’ll be there in a few”. I hung up, and hurried getting ready for work.
Merlotte’s was full of people; which was pretty typical for a Friday night. The tips would be pretty good, and I wouldn’t have to be alone with my thoughts. Sookie handed me a clean apron, and I tied it around my waist, avoiding her gaze. “You seem out of sorts”, she muttered, as I tied up my hair in a bun. “Seem? Or are you listening in…?”, I said. She looked suddenly sad. “I’m sorry, Sookie… It’s been a hard day”. She smiled a little. “I can’t read you as well as I can some other people, you know”, she said. “Whatever comes through, is usually just colors and emotions. But they’re pretty intense, so I try to avoid them”. “Why?”, I asked. “I don’t know”, she shrugged. “It’s just like that with some folks… Makes it easier to be your friend, though”. I squeezed her hand, and walked out to take some orders.
Hoyt and Jason were nursing beers in a corner, and I walked over to check on them. “Everything good here?”. “Much better, now you’re here”, Jason winked. “You know, I saw your car out back. It ain’t looking good. I’d be happy to give you a ride, when you clock out”. “I’m sure you would, but I’m not in the mood for crabs tonight”. Hoyt laughed heartily, and Jason smiled and shook his head. “Any food for you gentlemen?”, I asked. “LaFayette has some gumbo cooking tonight”. “Sounds good. Hoyt?”, Jason said. “Two bowls, then”, Hoyt smiled. “Coming right up”, I said, and took their order to the serving hatch; winking at LaFayette in the kitchen.
For the next few hours, I pushed away all thoughts of possessive men, and focused on earning my wages. Bill stopped by to give Sookie a kiss, and thanked me for my help so far; leaving me another list. “Just some time next week, will be fine”, he said. “You’re welcome to text me, Bill”, I said. “I dislike using the keys to type”, the vampire grumbled. “I prefer the old-fashioned way of writing”. “Did you use a quill?”, I asked, giving him a sly smile. “Just a no. 2 pencil”, he retorted. “And once again; I’m sorry…”. I groaned. “Please, stop… Nothing happened. I’m perfectly fine”.
Sookie gave me a slight look, which Bill caught immediately. “You’re not. What is wrong?”. “Sookie!”, I sighed. “Sorry! You’re pretty much radiating fear, honey”, she said. Bill looked at me earnestly. “I will do my best to keep you safe from Eric”, he said. “I don’t want you to worry about him”. “I’m not scared of Eric… No more than the next person, anyway”, I assured him; and walked towards the bar, to grab a tray of beers. Sookie followed me there. “What, then?”, she asked. I clenched my jaw. “Could you give this to Jane Bodehouse? I’m gonna go take my break”, I said.
I almost ran out the back door, and lit a cigarette. Sam was putting a bag of trash in the container, when I got there. “Everything alright?”, he asked. “Why is everyone asking me that?”, I almost snarled. Sam seemed taken aback. “Sorry… I’m just… It’s been a day”. “We all have those”, Sam said. “You want to talk about it?”. “Not really”, I said.
Sam scratched his head. “How’s it going, working for Bill Compton?”, he asked. “Fine, so far. It’s an easy gig”, I said. “Don’t worry, it won’t get in the way of my work here”. “I know. I just worry about you, is all”, he said. “You’ve had a strange look on your face all night”. I sighed deeply, not wanting to give away too much. “I got word from an old… acquaintance”, I said. “I’d hoped to avoid it”. “Ex?”, Sam muttered. “Not really…”. I swallowed hard. “Sam… If I… If some day I don’t come in to work… It’s not because I’m playing hookie”. “That sounds ominous…”, Sam said. “Just… I like this job. Bon Temps”, I said. “I’m happy here. So, if suddenly, I’m not around… I didn’t just skip town, ok?”. Sam walked up to me, and put a hand on my shoulder. “Liv, talk to me. What’s going on?”. Sookie stuck her head out. “Sam, we need to call Jane’s son again. She’s passed out on the pool table…”. Sam rolled his eyes, and went back inside, leaving me to smoke in peace.
My phone vibrated in my pocket. I had a text; from Eric, of all people. - When can I see you again?
I rolled my eyes. - How do I know you’re not watching me now?
The reply came within seconds. - You don’t. But I’m not. Do you want me to? I decided against replying, and went back inside – chiding myself for indeed wanting that.
When I got back home, I collapsed on my bed fully clothed – but not before having checked to see if all windows and doors were safely closed and locked. Even without A/C, I’d rather sweat than risk someone coming into the house while I slept.
My phone vibrated, and when I saw who was calling, I picked it up. “What?”, I said. “Why haven’t you replied to my messages?”, Eric said. Loud music was thundering in the background. I looked at the screen of my phone, and saw that I had multiple unread texts. “Because I was working. And because I didn’t want to”, I said. That last part was a lie. “What are you wearing?”, he asked. “A leather garter belt, and a top hat”, I sneered. “Really?”. I could hear his smile. “No. Goodnight, Eric”. “Read your messages”, he managed to say, before I hung up.
I more or less had to pry my eyes open to read the messages the vampire had sent me. - I’m not used to have my messages ignored. Well, get used to it, I thought. - I could come by your job. Just say the word. - I want to see you soon. When? At least he was asking, and not telling me. That was a step up from what I was used to. - Please. That one must have hurt. I sent him a message back. - I’ll let you know. And if you insist on texting more than a teenage girl, I’ll reply like one. Ttyl lol rofl xoxo
As soon as I’d dropped my phone on the bed, I smacked my forehead. I’d written xo. That thought kept me awake for hours, and I didn’t fall asleep until the sun was almost up again.
---
As soon as I woke a little after noon, I rushed out to handle Bills errands. He’d given me until the week after, but as I saw the picture sent to me laying on my kitchen table, I didn’t want to spend a moment longer in the house. I even called Sam to ask if he was absolutely sure he didn’t need me at the bar; but he all but told me that if he saw me anywhere near Merlotte’s, he’d throw me over his shoulder, and carry me home, so I could enjoy my day off.
A little after sunset, there was a knock on my door, and I was slightly startled to see Eric on my small porch. I swallowed hard. “What are you doing here?”, I asked. “I was in the neighborhood; and thought I’d save you the trouble of texting me, when you’d be able to see me”, he said. “Besides, I don’t want you driving that rust bucket all the way to Shreveport again. It’s a death-trap”. He looked towards my car, in the driveway. “You can see me now”, I said. “Wonderful”, he said, and once again dug his eyes into mine. “Invite me in”. “No…”, I said. He once again looked confused. “Why can’t I glamor you?”, he asked. “I don’t know… Maybe you’re impotent”. Eric barred his fangs; making me jump slightly. He looked dangerous. “Not nearly”, he said. “You shouldn’t test me”.
Not wanting him to think he’d scared me too much, I took a hesitant step out of the door, putting less than a foot between us. Eric smelled like nothing I’d ever encountered before. It was crisp, and yet warm; like expensive aftershave and salt water, with an undertone of something I couldn’t define – something musky.
“I don’t understand why you keep wanting to talk to me”, I said. “I get it, I’m human. Blood and sex, and all that… But you have a club full of willing participants to whatever it is you wanna do”. Eric nodded. “I know. It’s infuriating that I feel the need to be here”, he said. “But I think I found a fix for it”. “Oh?”, I croaked, doing my best to ignore the fact that a man, that looked more or less like a GQ model, was currently reaching out his hand to stroke my cheek. As his fingertips touched my skin, my breath hitched. “Yes. See, when I have sex with a human, I usually bore with them pretty quickly”, Eric said. “I thought we should just get it over with, so I can move on”. I took a step back, and my back hit the screen door. “I don’t want to have sex with you!”, I lied. “Of course you do. I’m a very good lover”, Eric smiled. “Now, invite me in, and I’ll undress you”. “Shove it up your ass!”, I said. Eric raised a brow at me. “Well, it’s been a while, but I’m up for it if you are”.
I scrambled to open the screen door, and get back inside the house. My body was screaming at me to give in to the sensation in my lower belly, but I told myself that I had to persist. “You should… go now”, I said. Eric stepped closer to me, and I felt his firm chest against my back. “Why?”, he asked, sounding genuinely confused again. “You’re… imposing”, I croaked, and turned to meet his eyes. They were piercing mine, sending tingles down my spine. “Stop trying to glamour me” “I’m not. It doesn’t seem to work on you”, he said; a hint of regret in his voice. “Though I wonder… would you let me test a theory?”. “What theory?”. Eric smiled. “Just humor me. Pam?”.
I nearly jumped out of my skin, when the blonde female vampire suddenly stood next to Eric; and hurried over the threshold, so neither of them could reach me. “What the hell?”, I said. “Yeah, Eric. What the hell? I’ve been waiting behind that tree forever. In my new Jimmy Choo’s”, Pam said. “Be nice, Pam”, Eric said. Pam drew her lips back in an insincere smile. “Hello, Liv. I am very glad to see you”, she said. “Happy?”. She looked out the corner of her eyes at Eric.
Eric gave her a look, and something unspoken passed between them. Pam seemed to shrink in front of me. “Liv, I would like you to let Pam try to glamour you”, he said. “What? No!”, I exclaimed. “I want to know if it’s…”. “Just you?”, I said. For the first time, Eric wouldn’t meet my eyes. I took a deep breath. “Fine. But I’m not coming outside”. Eric nodded. “Pam, try to glamour her. But don’t ask her to come outside where we can reach her”. He was trying to make me feel safe – it was almost endearing.
Pam took a step forward, and looked deep into my eyes. Her voice was soothing. “Liv… You want to invite Eric inside. You want to have sex with him”. I shook my head. “No… Not happening”, I said. She narrowed her eyes in confusion. “You… want to invite me inside… Have sex with me”. “No thank you”, I snarled. Pam stepped back, and began laughing. “What the actual fuck?”, she guffawed. “What are you?”. Eric stepped in between us, his back to me. “Thank you, Pamela. You can leave now”, he said. “Eric! She’s…”, Pam began. “Now!”, Eric growled. She disappeared as fast as she’d come.
Eric stood there for a moment, not turning to face me. I was about to close the door, when he spoke again. “I’m making you mine… And getting you a better car”. “The hell, you are", I sputtered. He spun around with wide eyes. “You’re saying… no?”, he asked bemusedly. “I’m not anyone’s; let alone yours”. Eric chuckled at me. “I just claimed you”. “Well you can shove that claim up your ass, as well”, I proclaimed. “You wanted me to tell you about myself”, I said. He didn’t respond, simply stood still and never diverted his eyes from mine. “I left San Diego to get away from a guy who couldn’t take no for an answer… I’m not about to throw myself into the arms of another one who does the same”, I said. “This… guy”, Eric said. “Did he hurt you?”. There was an angry edge to his voice. I looked down, and crossed my arms in front of me. “He did… It’s over. But only because I ran away”, I said. “He… It doesn’t matter. I just don’t want that again”.
For a long moment, he just looked at me; making me swallow to wet my dry mouth. “Alright”, he finally said calmly. “Are we finished?”, I asked, almost in a whisper. “We’re finished”, he said. “For now”. Eric lowered his head, looking earnestly at me. “As long as you say no to me, I won’t do anything”, he said. “I will not force myself on you, Liv”. “Why?”, I asked, genuinely surprised. “Do you want me to? I don’t mind playing games…”, Eric smiled. I shook my head. “Never mind. I thought we were having a moment here, but it’s gone”. I went to close the door in his face. “Liv!”, Eric said; his voice imposing. I halted, and looked at him again. “I don’t know why… But I will not”.
He turned around, and walked down the steps from my small porch. I took a deep breath, before running after him. He heard me coming, and turned around. “Thank you… For at least kind of taking no for an answer”, I said. I tugged at his jacket, to get him to lower his head, and I got on my toes; placing a kiss on his cheek. Once again, I was surprised to find his skin not icy, but simply cool; and I let my lips linger for a moment.
I was about to turn back, when Eric put both his hands on my shoulders, and looked me square in the face. I could tell he wasn’t trying to glamour me. “Be mine”, he said. My breath hitched, and everything in me screamed say yes!. “N-no, Eric… No, I can’t do that”. Eric looked as if I’d slapped him. My phone vibrated, and I took it from my pocket, looking at the screen. “It’s Bill… I have to take this".
Erics face dropped, and he let go of me. “Goodnight, sunshine”, he said, and walked away into the darkness. “Eric!”, I called after him. “I regret picking up your keys for you”, Eric replied, his back still to me. “I would have loved to see you bend over”.

Absentmindedly, you picked up your phone on the end table beside you. It was positively buzzing with notifications, and you were a bit thrown off by the sheer amount of them. You furrowed your eyebrows as you skimmed through the notifications from the bottom to the top— you had a bunch of missed calls from your parents, more Snapchat notifications on your regular snap than ever, and a plethora of texts.
You wondered if something had happened, chewing slightly on your bottom lip. Was everything okay at home? Did you post something meant for your cam site on your Instagram? A hundred various circumstances fled through your mind, but none of the situations you had made up could’ve prepared you for when you opened a text from Aaliyah with a picture attached. It read:
- Attachment: 1 image
- BITCH, THIS IS LITERALLY YOU!!!
You sat up immediately, your stomach twisting nauseatingly as you looked at the image on your phone screen. You blinked a few times, rubbing furiously at your eyes like this was all a bad dream and you’d wake up in a few seconds. Because this couldn’t be happening. There was no way that you were looking at a picture of you and Steve that neither of you had taken, walking out of a restaurant you couldn’t be bothered to remember the name of right now. A sense of urgency flooding your veins, you nudged Steve harshly. He shifted in his sleep and put his arms around your waist, unaware of what was going on.
“Steve!” you hissed, your face burning.
He woke up relatively quickly, hearing the seriousness in your tone, sitting up against the pillow and facing you, his brows knitted together, muscles flexing as he supported himself on his arms.
“What’s wrong, babe?” he asked, leaning forward to see what you were showing him on your phone.
You watched his expression change from one of confusion to one of concern as he began to grasp what had happened. But, instead of talking it out with you as you expected, he cursed under his breath and ripped the bed sheets off of him, getting up out of bed. You leaned forward, your naked bottom half getting exposed to the air while he pulled on some clothes and made his way out the door.
“Where’re you going?” you called out after him, and he didn’t even bother to take a look back at you as he marched out of the apartment, muttering,
“I’ll be back in a few hours.”
You tried to catch up to him, but it was too late. He was gone, and now you were alone in this apartment which felt eerily empty without him now, your phone pinging with a new notification every few seconds.

As expected, the headquarters were abuzz when Steve entered them. He had arrived in a haste, driving stoically on the busy New York streets, his mind racing just like the cars that zoomed past him. The first person to face him once he got inside was Bucky, who just gave Steve a sympathetic look and held the door open for him— Bucky already knew everything, he had figured it out a few weeks ago on his own. You and Steve had already dealt with that hiccup, and you had hoped (perhaps naively) that the situation with Bucky was just a fluke, and that nothing more like that would happen again. But you had been sorely mistaken.
Steve gave Bucky a nod, and they both made their way to the meeting room, where Steve already knew everyone would be waiting for him. Quite immaturely, he rolled his eyes at the fact that everyone was there. This matter was something personal, it had nothing to do with the rest of the Avengers, though technically it did, because Steve’s actions affected the rest of the team and he knew that. But to his own credit, he had just woken up and he was already being bombarded with messages from PR and the rest of the team about this mishap. He had to compose himself before walking in, taking a deep breath and relaxing his clenched jaw.
“Are you insane?” was the first thing Steve heard when he walked in, no doubt coming from Tony.
Steve sighed, tucking his hands into his pockets, glaring at Tony,
“Save the berating for later.”
“Were you not thinking? Is this what you were doing during your time off?” Tony continued, his hands up in the air in a questioning motion.
“Listen, Tony. I’m not here to hear what I did wrong. I’m here to solve this issue right now, whatever that means.”
“You’re gonna wanna see this,” Sam said reluctantly, sliding a magazine across the table for Steve to see.
It was one of those ridiculous celebrity gossip magazines, and multiple pictures of Steve and you were highlighted on the front page. Steve prepared for the worst as he read the headlines: “Captain America with Mystery Girl?” and “Who is Captain America’s New Boo?” He opened the magazine to more unsavory headlines, and to his extreme dismay, pictures of you from your personal Instagram highlighted.
He raised his eyebrows as he read: “More on Captain America’s New Girl.” They had found your name, your age, and worst of all, your profession. Steve was seeing red as he forced himself to keep reading the salacious article which made you out to be a deviant with ulterior motives, abusing inaccurate phrases like, “an unemployed college girl turned porn star” and, “the face of Captain America’s midlife crisis!”
Steve’s face burned white hot as he scanned the article, barely even registering the content and instead finding himself growing more and more angered by the inflammatory statements that were being made.
“That’s enough,” Nat finally spoke up, watching the expressions on Steve’s face grow more and more catastrophic.
She snatched the magazine away from Steve and shoved it across the table, folding her arms and glaring down the table at Tony.
“You okay?” Bucky asked, reaching a hand out to Steve’s shoulder. He could feel Tony’s angry glare focused on him, while everyone else gazed at him pitifully.
Steve sighed, jerking his shoulder away from Bucky’s touch. He couldn’t even pinpoint his emotions, all he was feeling right now was rage. He was angry at himself, feeling like he somehow let this happen, even though deep down he could hear your voice telling him that he was doing everything right and that it wasn’t his fault. He was angry that now, your privacy and safety were on the line, and people who didn’t know a thing about you were making absurd assumptions about you.
He felt like yelling, punching something, doing anything to let out this anger so he could at least have some sort of vessel for this fury he was feeling. But he stood painstakingly still, trying to hear your voice over all the noise, your voice telling him everything was okay even though right now all signs were saying that everything was not okay.
“You have to deny everything,” Tony sighed after moments of awkward silence. “She’s your assistant and you were undercover acting as boyfriend and girlfriend, something convincing but not as exposing as that. And you’re getting your legal team to sue all these publications for false claims and defamation.”
Steve furrowed his brows, staring at Tony,
“They aren’t false claims.”
Tony shrugged flippantly,
“If you want everyone to think Captain America is sleeping with a porn star, then so be it. But it’s going to cost you if you think for a second I’m gonna let that slide on our team-”
Steve cut him off, losing the calming hum of your voice in his mind in a new wave of anger,
“She’s not a porn star, she’s a college graduate and the owner of an online brand and a sex worker, and that’s more than a lot of people her age can say, so don’t get brave because of these god damn articles, Stark.”
“Listen, Cap,” Tony spat sarcastically. “I don’t give a shit who she is. The point is that in this case, your opinion on her doesn’t matter because everyone else is going to say whatever the fuck they want to say. And that’s bad for you, it’s bad for us, and it’s bad for her, if you care as much as you claim to.”
“Don’t act like I didn’t think about this,” Steve lurched forward, slamming his hands on the table. “She’s more than just some girl to me. Don’t act like every waking second I didn’t worry that something like this would happen. Like, like I didn’t take every precaution I could, look over my shoulder every five seconds. I’m not as stupid as you want me to be, Stark.”
Of course Steve cared about his team and how this would affect the Avengers, but the last straw was the media coming for you, putting your privacy and your safety at stake. Your job and the details of your job were extremely sensitive, and you were just beginning to make a name for yourself in the real world. Steve honestly felt like this was worse for you than it was for him. He knew he had to take care of this first, for logistical reasons, but when he was done, he’d get right to you as soon as possible.
Tony sighed, softening just a bit.
“Listen. You know what you have to do. After the Accords, this… this isn’t the kind of attention that we need. Regardless of that, we can’t have this. You’re making a statement today, and you know what you have to say. PR’s already contacting the publishers of these bullshit articles. As for your little girlfriend, if we’re not careful, she could be in huge danger. You know the kind of people we deal with, and how fast they would swing at a chance to grab her when they think she’s unprotected. That’s exactly why you need to deny everything, and we’ll do all the damage control possible. Not that there’s even much we can fix at this point.”
Steve glared all around the table, only to see faces of the rest of the members of the team looking up at him expectantly. He needed to explain himself. How’d he even get into this mess, what was he thinking, the usual. And Steve knew that that was his responsibility— as Captain America. As the leader. As a part of the team. Right now, he was just himself. Steve Rogers. And all that Steve Rogers was worried about was you. Regardless of what you said, the fact that you could be in danger scared the shit out of him, and also put him into this almost primitive, dominant mode. He needed to protect you. He didn’t care about reactions and rumors, he needed to make sure you were safe.
“Talk later,” was all Steve said, turning out of the room and ignoring Tony calling his name. When he got into the car he slammed the door shut and began the drive home.
His mind was swarming with thoughts, about what this meant for his team, for his job, all the things he’d left unaddressed in the meeting room. He knew this wasn’t his fault, he knew that’s what you would say, but Steve wasn’t going to let himself off this easily. He was livid about the fact that the magazines and web articles had found you out so quickly and had posted pictures of you, giving away personal information about you and jeopardizing you as if you deserved it at all. So he drove home in a silent, fuming rage.
By the time Steve came home, you, too were beside yourself with anger. You’d seen the posts your friends and family were sending you, and your social media was getting flooded with spam and comments from people who didn’t know the first thing about you. Some were downright cruel, others were oddly interested in this situation that was meant to be private all along. You hadn’t even called your parents yet or explained yourself to anyone, all you did was text them and tell them you’d get back to them later when you figured this all out. The only person you wanted to talk to at this point was Steve, and he wasn’t even there, nor was he answering his phone and you knew he had it on him.
The fact that he had seen the news and just left immediately, not giving you any sort of comfort or advice, not even beginning to work through this together, had you fuming. You knew that just like you, Steve had people to explain himself to and others to reach out to. But as far as you were concerned, you should’ve been the first person he talked to about this— he should’ve worked with you to at least talk about how to fix this before he just marched out the way he did.
You thought you had both worked past his eternal faithfulness to his job and the pressure to be dominant that he felt all the time, felt you had reached the core of the superhuman. But him leaving as promptly as he did only proved you wrong. You didn’t want to go through this alone, you wanted to go through this with him, as it was about the both of you in the first place.
He came in and you looked up from your phone, where you were scrolling worriedly through the trending Twitter hashtag about you and Steve. Everyone was giving their unwarranted opinions, and you honestly worried how this would impact you— tons of information about you had been revealed without your consent, and it did not at all make you look good to the typical eye.
“Where did you go?” you asked him quietly, glaring up at him.
He seemed to sense your anger and sighed, shrugging his shoulders in a resigned manner,
“Headquarters. Had to sort some things out.”
“Do you know how long I’ve been sitting here scrolling through pictures of me that are from my fucking cam site? Strangers exchanging information about me on the internet, seeing all this shit about us? And you just— just left? You didn’t even try to talk to me, Steve, honestly, what the fuck?” you snapped, your upper lip curling up angrily.
Steve glided over to you, sitting beside you on the side of the bed and trying to get close to you. He truly felt sorrowful for leaving you alone, he wished you had known how much he wanted to talk to you while he was being berated by Tony. He only wished you had known how little he cared about the logistics because you were on his mind the whole time.
But he knew you were right, he had left without even trying to sort things out with you, left you to handle things on your own without even giving you an inch of support or telling you where he was going and what he planned for when he got back.
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” Steve apologized, his tone genuine, trying to catch your eye. He finally did, and even though you still glared angrily at him, he grinned at the fact that you were at least looking at him. “I should’ve been here for you, and dealt with all the other logistics later. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you, honestly, angel. I didn’t… I didn’t know-”
He didn’t know that your image was being plastered around everywhere, that you were being unpacked by attention-seeking publications. Your safety and your privacy came before the reputation of his team, before all the logistics. That was all he had wanted to protect this entire time. You. Looking into Steve’s eyes, you could see that they were almost glassy, and you shifted from anger to concern quickly.
“Baby,” you cradled your arms around his head, frowning. “No, no, I’m… I’m being stupid, of course you have to handle shit with your job first, I should know that. I just wish we could’ve processed this emotionally first. Instead of separating from each other first thing.”
“No,” Steve said firmly, pulling away from your touch and placing strong, grounding hands on your shoulders. “No, you are completely valid, and you’re right to be angry with me, doll. I should’ve taken a moment. That’s- that’s what we’ve been working on this entire time and you’ve been trying to teach me to step outside of my anxieties and all my duties. And I should’ve been here for you. I didn’t even take the time to comfort you. I’m sorry.”
“Thank you,” you smiled softly, and he pulled you in for a hug, nuzzling his face in your neck.
This was the warmest you’d ever felt with him, just sitting there with him calmly in the midst of all the chaos, finding peace and stillness in each other’s arms. Anywhere else but in each other’s arms felt dangerous and uncertain, and now that you were here together, you were starting to look up. Everything was still shitty, but maybe together, things would feel less shitty.
“Listen, you’ll be okay. I’m sorry for all of this, I know what you’re going to say, but I know that I’m partially responsible. I just wanted to keep you safe, and, fuck.”
You chuckled quietly to yourself, your faces only inches apart when you brought your hands up to cup and graze Steve’s cheeks lovingly,
“You still blame yourself for everything. You can’t control what these fucking publications do. You know that. And selfishly, the risk of getting caught is worth taking, if it means I get to be with you.”
Steve melted into your touch, but still there was that stiff part of him that wanted to blame himself for this mess,
“We’re gonna have to agree to disagree on this one, doll,” he laughed wistfully. “But, you didn’t teach me for naught. Instead of pitying ourselves, we’re gonna work on this, right?”
You nodded with a smile,
“Yes, yes, exactly.”
Steve sighed before continuing, frowning as he remembered the hostile air in the office.
“They told me to deny everything and get my legal team involved, but I…” Steve paused, feeling his anger and defiance resurge.
If they were going to expose you two, then so be it, it was true. If he didn’t tell the truth, if he denied all the “allegations,” he was just letting them win. He was letting them silence him, letting him think he was doing something wrong because he had found you, his happiness. And sure, your relationship was easy to publicize and critique because it was controversial for many obvious reasons— the age difference, the sensitive nature of your jobs.
But Steve didn’t care what they had to say. All he cared was that this didn’t push you apart. And if it meant telling the truth, he’d do that. The bombardment of rumors and questions would pass eventually. Nothing could soil the Avengers for long. If he handled this the way the public expected him to handle it— with some spineless apology or some weak minded statement, it wouldn’t be fair to you. Not when you and Steve were together.
He continued,
“I’m not going to. I’m not denying a thing. I’ll release a statement on my own… I’ll… I’ll tell the truth. I’ll get them to leave you alone and take down whatever they’ve posted about you. I don’t care what they have to say about us. Just… they can’t mess with you.”
Steve’s fists balled up inadvertently in frustration and anger, but he was also feeling a surge of pride, courage. He didn’t have to deal with this the way everyone wanted him to. This was a personal matter, and even though it affected his job and his team, Steve had been through too much in the past few weeks to let the public play him the way they wanted to. There would be drama, and talk, but it would all subside as it always did. He’d always be Captain, and as long as he had a good heart and good intentions, and did his job right, he didn’t give a shit about what strangers had to say about who he was in love with.
You blinked, shocked and puzzled by Steve’s words. This was like a full 180, you weren’t used to Steve rebelling like this. You figured maybe he was just worked up, and you didn’t want to be the reason he got in trouble. You knew he had his responsibilities, regardless of how you felt. You didn’t expect him to put you above everything, you knew he had to deal with matters like this in a specific way. You tried to calm him down,
“Steve, you’re sweet. But you should go through with what your team wants. I mean, it’s what’s best, isn’t it?”
Steve cocked his head at you,
“And keep doing this in secret? I mean, we can’t keep this up for long, doll, you know that. If I deny it now and the truth somehow comes out, that’d be even worse. I know my team is saying the opposite, but I think this is what’s best. The rumors, the gossip… it’ll come to a stop. What we have is stronger than that.”
You grinned, your eyes glossy,
“I know, but I don’t wanna be the reason you get in trouble.”
Steve inched closer to you and cupped your face firmly with his hands, looking into your eyes,
“You’re not. And you won’t be. Don’t blame yourself for a second. I’m taking care of this, alright? You’ve done so much for me and you don’t even know it. It would be a disservice to the both of us if I didn’t stand up for us. Don’t worry about me, don’t worry about my job. I was wrong to ever make you feel like that was your responsibility more than it was my own. We’ll be alright.”
Steve was true to his word. As the day progressed and word spread even more, soon enough there was a statement to match the rumors. It wasn’t what the publicists or his fellow Avengers wanted to hear, but it was what he thought was right. And there was no reversing it. Later that day you sat on your laptop, scrolling through the recently updated articles on your situation.
Superhero Captain America, known to those in his personal life as Steve Rogers, admits that he has been in a private relationship for the past few months. Rogers and his team ask that their privacy be maintained and respected despite the shocking, unexpected news. At the time, Rogers and his fellow Avengers will not be taking any further inquiries about the matter, and they are taking this violation of privacy and security very seriously.
You breathed out a sigh of relief as you read the statement, mulling it over a few times in your head. All Steve wanted was to keep you safe and get as much information that had been revealed about you taken down. You weren’t quite sure what you were going to do from here on out— your sensitive profession had been exposed and this was something that would quite likely impact you for the rest of your life.
How could you be expected to be taken seriously to get a career when you had been trashed and defamed on the internet for your job? It seemed that still, no one quite understood sex work and that it was just as legitimate a profession as anything else, and you knew from the start that sex workers were looked down upon. You had done everything right— you used an alias, you didn’t give away personal information. And now, your face was plastered on gossip websites, with links to the very cam site you used.
Needless to say, you were stressed. But, you weren’t panicking. You were processing everything and it was all so overwhelming. In the grand scheme of things, you weren’t being nitpicky about the specifics. You had faith that you would figure this all out, that everything would be back to normal soon. Whatever that meant for your future, you weren’t sure. But you refused to lose hope. Not yet. You’d pick yourself back up from the ground and dust yourself off, just like you’d done so many times before. The difference was that Steve would be there for you every step of the way.
Steve was out again handling important business. He’d talked to you before leaving and you understood that he’d have to be gone for a few hours trying to juggle this insane situation. In the meantime, you decided that since you had time, you’d call back everyone who had been bombarding you with messages and calls. Firstly, you’d call your parents. You dialed your dad’s number and he picked up almost immediately.
You could hear him calling your mother’s name so she could talk to you too, and you heard her scramble up to the phone to talk.
“YN, what the hell is going on?” your mother asked, but she sounded more concerned than upset.
“We’ve been calling all day, we’ve been worried sick. Everyone’s been asking about you and we had no clue what was going on,” your father continued.
You were surprised at their tone. Perhaps ever since your awkward dinner with them where you’d revealed what was likely your biggest secret, there had been a shift. You were surprised when they were so quick to accept you despite being so distant from you your whole life, being the root of your emotional issues. You sighed, rubbing your forehead,
“Look, I know it’s a lot.”
“Are you okay, sweetie? Be honest,” your mother pleaded, and you made a face,
“I’m fine, it’s been a stressful day, but-”
“No, I mean in general. We… we know we haven’t been talking much, but this… this whole thing, it’s-- we’re worried about you. You just go off to New York without saying a thing to anyone? You’re in some secret relationship with a man twice your age?”
You understood their concern, but at the same time, you knew you weren’t being irrational by doing these things. Instead, you were doing what made you happy. This wasn’t a spontaneous, crazy decision. You and Steve were both extremely logical people, and you weren’t unstable just because you did this without anyone knowing. You had your reasons.
“Look, I… this is something I did on my own. I’m an adult and I’m doing what's best for me. And, obviously, there was a reason I didn’t tell anyone. I mean, he’s- he’s not just some random guy. And what we have is… you might not understand it, but that doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with me.”
“I just wish you felt like you could talk to us.”
“Yeah. Me too. Listen, I just wanted to call you to let you know that I’m fine. I don’t really know what’s next, but I’ll try to keep you updated, alright? Don’t worry about me, everything will be okay.”
“What about all those posts about you? The things people are saying, it’s- and your safety! This is serious.”
“Dad, I know. We are working it out, believe me. I’m just as worried as you are. I’m probably more worried. But you know what, I knew the risk in coming here, and I knew what I was doing. And I’m still glad I did it. Steve means so much to me, and I’m not gonna let this change that. But all that matters is that I’m okay. I just wanted to call you and tell you that.”
“Well, we’re glad to hear that you’re okay. There’s just so much about you that we’re just now finding out, we have every reason to be worried.”
“Yes, you do, and you’re right. If things were different… well. Anyways. I love you both, I’ll call you later,” you said, hanging up without waiting for them to reply.
At least that was off your plate.

The next morning, you woke up with Steve by your side, holding you in his arms. Needless to say, yesterday had been incredibly eventful, and by the time Steve got back home, there was nothing left to do except sleep the day off. It seemed as if your troubles were far in the past, considering how quickly everything had been handled. You had to hand it to Steve, he was the one who had to talk to so many people yesterday- legal teams, PR, his team members, just to clear the air. And of course, people were still talking about everything. But the initial shock and widespread reaction from yesterday was already beginning to calm down. It was still a bit dark in the bedroom, and Steve was still asleep, his arms wrapped around you.
You stretched to reach your phone on the side table and started scrolling. There were still articles up and pictures of you up, but Steve was working to wipe those out to protect your privacy. You chewed on your bottom lip worriedly. Even after this was all over, you’d have to figure out what the hell you were going to do. Would you have to stop camming? Would you have to throw away all hopes of any other career as well? This was all on your mind.
Suddenly, Steve’s hand was wrapped around your phone, pulling it out of your grasp. He sighed sleepily, his voice still groggy and deep,
“What’d I tell you about that?”
“I know…” you pouted, turning to face him. His eyes were closed, but you knew he was listening. “Shouldn’t keep looking for updates.”
“Mm,” Steve hummed. “You’ll be alright, YN. I’ll make sure of that.”
“Promise?” you asked.
“I promise.”
That was all the reassurance you needed for now.
Eventually, you both woke up and got ready for the day. You weren’t doing much of anything, since you’d have to stay low for a few days. But it meant you got to be in each other’s company all day, so you weren’t exactly complaining. You were laying in between Steve’s legs on the couch, your head resting on his chest.
Today was supposed to be your last day, but due to recent events, there had been a change in plans. You would probably stay here until this all settled, then go back to Cali and deal with business back home. Luckily for you, your friends were supportive all the way. They were astonished and shocked of course, but incredibly happy for you. They’d be there for you just as much as Steve would.
“You okay, doll?” Steve asked, and you glanced up at him.
“Good as I can be. Are you okay?” you asked.
“Better than yesterday,” Steve chuckled, his blue eyes glimmering. “My team is still working on taking down any private information about you, by the end of this week, we should be all good-”
“Steve,” you flopped over, straddling his legs now. Instinctively, he reached up to caress your arm and your thigh.
“Hmm?” he hummed, looking up at you.
“What happens after this? I mean, as far as I’m concerned, any hopes of getting a serious job are kind of fucked now.”
“That’s not true,” Steve furrowed his brows, frowning. He didn’t want you to feel like this incident would mess up your whole future.
“Steve, I majored in environmental policy. That’s like, government job type shit. I have to be someone who’s reputable. And I don’t know many people who are looking to hire a porn star sugar baby. I mean, that’s what everyone’s been calling me.”
“But you’re not that. And once we clear up all this, I promise you, no one will think that about you. you’ Besides, Stark Industries is always looking for people like that, you could work for-”
You put your finger to his lips, shaking your head with a small smile,
“Ah ah ah. You know I like to do things myself.”
You didn’t want to just beat around the bush and take the easy way out of all this. You liked knowing that you were accomplishing what you were accomplishing all on your own. If you worked for Steve or his team, it would just feel like giving up.
“I know, and I love that about you. But why make things so hard on yourself?”
You shrugged,
“I don’t see it like that. I see it like… like making my own way. You know? I’d probably be set for life if I worked for Tony Stark. But… I don’t know, it’s just a thing I have. I like to get it myself.”
Steve sighed slowly, shaking his head with a sly smile. His girl, such a go-getter. That aspect of you was honestly a turn-on for him. You didn’t want anyone to be able to say they did something major for you, and even though there were flaws within that ideology, he had to give you credit where credit was due. You were a hard worker. You liked to do things on your own and know that you were where you were because of your own discipline and hard work. Not because your boyfriend had recommended you.
“You are something else,” Steve shook his head.
“Mm hmm,” you grinned knowingly, stretching your hands along his chest.
“Listen, I can’t predict the future. But I will be there for you. And I know how much you like to hustle and do things on your own, but it’s good to accept help sometimes, doll. And I want to help you through this. Don’t think the worst of everything. You’ve always managed, even in the worst of times. This is no different. No job you apply for is going to try to judge you, I can guarantee you that. I’ll make sure of that, no matter how much you try to stop me.”
You scoffed, smirking,
“You’re such a guy.”
“I do it for you.”
Accepting help. Maybe Steve was right. Just because you accepted someone’s help didn’t mean you hadn’t done something on your own. And when it came to something like this, you needed all the help you could get, even if you didn’t want to admit that. It didn’t make you any less of an independent woman.

You woke up to thousands more follower requests the next day as you ate breakfast sitting at the kitchen counter. Steve was at the stove, finishing up his own plate, and you were chewing your eggs pensively as you scrolled through your Instagram. Ever since the day everything went down, you’d been getting a lot of attention. Most of it was honestly unwanted. Magazines you actually read were DMing you, asking to interview you, wanting the inside scoop on “the life of Captain America’s girlfriend.” You didn’t pay them any mind, because that was attention you didn’t want. You cringed to think of yourself being interviewed by a reporter about personal matters for fifteen minutes of fame.
But the attention wasn’t all bad, and now that you thought about it, maybe your future wouldn’t be so scary. Whether you liked it or not, you were almost like a celebrity now, and celebrities always had their scandals and their speculations, and they still got booked. Maybe this was meant to be, to steer your life in a different direction.
It didn’t seem ideal, and you didn’t even want fame. You certainly didn’t want to be known as “Steve Rogers’ girlfriend.” If you knew one thing, it was that you were going to make a name out of yourself before people tried to make one for you. Now that you were thinking about it, you could honestly seize this opportunity.
Even the sales for your clothing brand had hiked up since that day. People actually took an interest in what you had to offer, and you’d rather they take an interest in that than your personal life. You had no real interest in becoming some mystical figure or some it girl who was on Steve’s arm. You were just a regular, hardworking girl from California, and you wouldn’t lose sight of that. But if this was going to happen, you were going to take advantage of it.
“Steve,” you said his name, and he turned to face you, putting his plate together.
“Yeah?”
“Look at my Instagram,” you pointed your phone screen towards him and he squinted. “All these follower requests. And I keep getting orders, this is insane.”
Steve grinned, beaming. He was glad that something good was coming out of all this for you. He knew you didn’t want or like attention, but this went to show that all eyes on you wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. He knew you knew how to flip it and turn it into something beneficial for you. You weren’t the kind of girl to bask in attention just because. You would make something out of this.
“I’m proud, YN, honestly. You know that’s all you, right?”
You chuckled, shaking your head,
“Kinda crazy to wrap my head around. I don’t wanna be this sensationalized person or this public figure, but, fuck. This isn’t at all how I imagined my life going. I could make something out of this. It’s such a turn around, but maybe it was supposed to happen.”
“I’m sorry about all this unwanted attention. But if I know you, you’ll make it work.”
It was interesting, this unwanted celebrity. You had to accept that people would start to know you. You could capitalize off this and highlight your brand, make people pay attention to that instead of your private life. You could even put your studies to work and create an environmental company. You wouldn’t just work for Stark Industries, you’d create an industry of your own. Of course, this was all in theory, and you had to gather yourself before you did those things. But the fact that this was possible just because of some unwanted attention reminded you that you could always flip a bad situation into something ten times better.

“Fuck, Steve, I can’t,” you were panting heavily, sweat dripping down your forehead as you grasped onto his biceps.
Safe to say, since you were laying low and there wasn’t much to do, this was a very reliable option, every time. Now that the stress of the past few days was winding down, you were finally able to focus on what you had both been neglecting, which was each other’s bodies. Every time Steve was inside you, it was as good as the first time, if not better. You’d been going at it for hours now, partially because Steve didn’t have anything else to do and his endurance was ridiculous. You almost wanted to slap his pretty face for being able to go so long like this, drawing out your pain and your pleasure so effortlessly, only to kiss his cheek afterwards.
“Yes you can, doll, I know you can,” Steve said, not nearly as breathless as you were— it was safe to say sex with Steve was a workout. “Come for me just one more time.”
“Mm,” you whined, lifting yourself up with the help of Steve’s hands clasped beneath your shaking thighs, feeling him shift inside you. You cursed, biting down on your lip and glancing down at where you two met with your brows wrung together.
You were a mess. Both you and Steve had already came multiple times, but Steve wasn’t in a rush. He was honestly handcrafted by the devil. And since you were together, Steve had grown so much more confident. You switched in bed, sometimes you took the lead and sometimes Steve did, and sometimes it wasn’t about who was in the lead. But right now, Steve had you about to beg for mercy.
“Fuck, that looks so good, just watching me stretch you out like that,” Steve groaned, his eyes lowering to watch you slowly drop up and down on his cock, which was coated in your slick arousal. “You like this? Riding me for hours, coming over and over again on my cock?”
You shuddered with an almost humiliating moan, nodding your head because you weren’t able to speak. But Steve wasn’t letting you off that easy. He gripped your jaw with his hand, prying your mouth open.
“Use your words,” he said, nodding slowly and mouthing ‘yes.’
“Yes,” you stuttered out, feeling as Steve pulsed inside of you. You sounded ridiculous, pathetic, and you knew you looked absolutely filthy in the best way possible. You began to ramble. “Yes, yes, I love when you take me like this and— fuck— force me to come for you.”
“Mmm,” Steve hummed like he was taking your words into consideration, mulling it over in his mind. “Yeah. You love this. You look so pretty like this.”
Pretty wasn’t the word you’d use to describe it. It was messy. You were practically drooling, and your body felt as exposed as it had ever been. Steve’s own cum from the previous times he came was pouring out of you each time you slid down onto him, and you were incredibly wet still. The sound your bodies made meeting was almost criminal. You were hot and sticky and sweaty and still somehow ridiculously gorgeous to Steve, and you looked even better when he was torturing you with pleasure.
You gasped raggedly when Steve had the audacity to bring his fingers down to your clit, those thick, unforgettable fingers that he used to stretch you out every time before you took his cock, rubbing harsh circles against your sensitive clit. Your whole body seemed to shudder, and Steve chuckled lowly, not even trying to hide the smirk that appeared on his face. Oh, you would so be getting him back for this.
“That feel good, doll?”
“Fuck,” you whined, your hand flinging to his wrist to keep his fingers there doing the same motion.
Your body seemed to tighten and coil up, your eyes squeezing shut before you let go, and before you knew it, you were cumming on his cock. Or more like squirting, the way it seemed never ending and made your whole body convulse. Steve groaned as you soaked his torso and his legs, stilling yourself on his length and riding your orgasm out. He must have come inside you a few times while you were squirting. Wet tears, the good, hot kind, were forming down your cheeks as you come for what feels like the hundredth time in the span of a few slow, tantalizing hours.
“There you go, darling, I knew you could do it,” Steve finally pulled out of you, still hard against his stomach. He reached up and wiped the tears off your face. “Now do that again on my face.”
Fuck. You’d get him back another day.
| | |
“Oh fuck, right there,” you sighed in ecstasy.
Steve’s hands were kneading into your back with expertise. He seemed to know just what he was doing, relieving all the tension from your spine and shoulders, and god knows you needed it. It had been about a week since the news came out, and everything seemed much less urgent now.
Reports about you two were dwindling, especially because you had stayed lowkey and didn’t flaunt your relationship about town. But it was almost freeing that you had the liberty to do so now, even if your relationship had been unfairly exposed. At least now, you could go out together without wondering if you’d get caught.
Steve chuckled and finished up, rolling off of you and facing you on the bed, his eyes glittering as he smiled at you.
“You know,” you started, reaching your hand out to stroke his cheek. “I’m kinda glad this all happened. Is that selfish?”
“No,” Steve grinned, shaking his head and reveling in the touch of your hand on his cheek. He grasped your wrist, gazing into your eyes.
These past few months had been such a whirlwind for the both of you. The both of you were doing things that surprised you, that made you endlessly happy. Steve had never felt more grateful for anything or anyone in his life. You helped him grow, and he did the same for you. He couldn’t see his future without you, and he didn’t even want to imagine it. He knew you were irreplaceable, he knew this was meant to be. Your odd circumstances and the unconventional way you met seemed to emphasize that truth. There was a reason why he had been so blue without you, and there was a reason why he had come back. Deep down, he knew all along that it was worth it, that you were worth it. Nothing else had ever been so clear to him, especially in that moment, gazing into your deep, warm eyes.
His heart blossomed with that irrevocable feeling, and before he could stop himself, the words were bubbling out of his mouth,
“I love you.”
You didn’t have to think, didn’t have to second guess yourself before you replied. You knew it all along, it was just a matter of time before one of you actually said it. And now, after you’d been through so much together, after you’d taught each other so much, and healed from so much as a collective, there was no reluctance. You weren’t scared to admit that it was true.
“I love you,” you said, with a soft grin and a dreamy look in your eyes.
You didn’t know how long you stayed there together, looking at each other and kissing and holding each other, but it was enough time to make you forget the world.

XS (IX - Jesus)
“Give me just a little bit MORE”
Being the son of the largest gang in the country, Kim Taehyung might as well be a prince. He is more powerful than any one man should be and is not afraid to get rid of anything - or anyone that gets in his way.
So when a man is unable to pay back the gigantic loan he owes Taehyung, the heir is all too happy to take his life. Moments away from pulling the trigger, a girl more beautiful than he’s ever seen bursts in and offers her life for her father’s. Taehyung knows right away that he wants her.
And Taehyung gets everything he wants.
Chapter Eight
Chapter Nine
YN would have never thought that gangs would be so formal. She supposes they must be, to make sure no one steps out of line. Still, it's never been something she's thought about until this moment.
Rows and rows of tatted and terrifying men stand in identical black suits, all expressionless in the grand hall the ceremony is taking place in. YN can't even see the back of the crowd. There's no way this can just be the higher-ups in the gang. This has to be everyone.
In the very front of the room, YN stands to the left of her husband. Taehyung is sporting a bright red suit, something so eye-catching that you'd be able to pick him out of the crowd from a mile away. On YN's left, Jungkook and a few other people YN hasn't met yet stand in their own black suits, a single red rose in their breast pockets. It makes YN nervous. Her eyes scan over all the assembled gang members, wondering if any of them are going to try and pull something that could get her killed. Taehyung notices YN's slight squirming and moves to hold her hand, squeezing it. YN gets the message and stops moving, hoping that she hasn't pissed him off too much.
A few feet away from Taehyung, Taehyung's father and his wife stand mirroring YN and Taehyung, the older man beaming with pride.
"I always knew you'd be the perfect heir, Taehyung," his father says quiet enough for just the four of them to hear, "You've always been tough, so much stronger than your brother."
"Brother? Taehyung has a brother?"
Out of the side of YN's eye, she notices the stiffening of one of the men she hasn't had the displeasure of meeting yet. She guesses that he's probably Taehyung's brother. YN looks at him as discreetly as possible. This nameless man does not look a thing like Taehyung. Their body builds, heights, and face shapes are vastly different. But now that YN is looking, she can tell that this man is definitely Taehyung's brother if for no other reason than he looks a lot like Taehyung's father.
He looks over and locks eyes with YN and she gasps slightly in surprise, looking away from him. She doesn't want to make any enemies and she thinks the best possible way to do this is to not have anything to do with anyone. It'll be incredibly lonely, but at least she won't be worrying about getting attached when she eventually finds a way out of this.
Someone must have sent out a signal because the entire room's atmosphere changes. If YN thought it was stiff before, it's stifling now. An elderly man opens the door at the far end of the other room, walking incredibly slowly. It gives YN flashbacks from yesterday's wedding and she's glad that it's not her going down the aisle anymore.
It takes several tense minutes for the suited old man to make it to the front. His face is wrinkled like a pug's, rolls of skin covering his eyes his cheeks drooping. He walks with the assistance of a golden cane he grasps tightly with his liver-spotted hand. The old man struggles to make it up to the stairs and no one moves to help him, even though YN would if she wasn't afraid of the possible consequences.
It makes it after forever and stands between Taehyung and his Father, reaching out to both of them and placing their hands in his own, folding them one on top of each other gently. He stands as still as death, whispering something in what YN believes is Italian but could honestly be Greek for all she knows. He prays for several minutes with his eyes closed and YN is captivated.
She hasn't been here for very long but already she can tell how oddly religious this gang is. There are paintings of Catholic saints all over the walls in this room and a giant marble Jesus statue is behind them.
The irony is not lost on her. YN has never met a man as unholy as Taehyung.
When he's done, the priest slides a ring Taehyung's father is wearing and slides it onto Taehyung's finger. The old man raises Taehyung and his Father's hands above his head before releasing them. Taehyung and his father turn wordlessly and walk to the Jesus statue, dipping their hands into a basin of water in front of it. The old man wobbles towards them and flicks water on Taehyung before reaching into his white robes and pulling out a bottle of ash. He smears it on Taehyung's forehead and then replaces it into his clothing, inching his way down the stairs and slowly exiting the room.
YN allows herself to relax. It's finally over.
"Get ready to hit the deck," Taehyung says, leaning over and pretending to kiss her forehead.
"Wha-" YN starts.
She never gets the chance to finish her sentence. Taehyung drops to the ground and rips YN's ankle towards him, causing her to fall flat on her back. The breath gets knocked out of her when she hits the ground hard. YN doesn't have time to process what's going on as the other men next to her fall just as quickly, all of them as close to the ground as possible.
Looking into the crowd, YN sees why. People wearing red scarves around their heads have barged into the room carrying guns of all shape and size. Men scream as bullets begin to fly overhead, landing in several of the attendees.
"Taehyung?!" YN shrieks, looking back at her husband in terror.
There's a massacre going on.
He doesn't look the least bit bothered, beginning to army crawl deeper onto the stage they're on.
"Crawl unless you wanna die, Spitfire," he says, grinning at her.
A psychopath. Taehyung is a psychopath.
Still, she crawls after him, all of her body aching with every movement. A bullet flies into a marble pillar next to her head and she screams, freezing and putting her arms over her head. It's too much. She doesn't know what to do, frozen in fear.
A hand touches her waist and she whips her head around to look at who it is. It's that driver.
"Come on," he says, "I know you're scared, but we gotta go."
YN looks at him through wet eyes and nods once, determined to get out of this alive. She tries to tune out the gunshots and the yelling as best she can, focusing on crawling after Jungkook's gigantic black shoes. It takes all of her mental strength to move her arms and drag herself across the floor. The driver flanks her directly, shielding her from behind.
Once she's behind the gigantic Jesus statue, YN can see an opened hole in the ground. Jungkook hops down confidently and shaking badly, YN chucks off her heels and slides into the hole, worried that the drop will be too high.
"I got ya, Princess," Jungkook says, grabbing YN's waist and helping her into the darkness. The driver drops down immediately after and closes the latch, closing it and locking it with the mechanism in it.
The small tunnel they're inside of is lit will slights every yard or so. The group waltzes down the path like they haven't just escaped a shooting. YN can barely stand.
"Do you need me to carry you?" Jungkook says patronizingly.
"Fuck off," she hisses.
Ignoring the way she trembles, YN yanks her stupid long dress up as high as she can, walking barefoot. She must look a mess.
"Awe, looks like she can do something for herself," Jungkook sneers, "Taehyung, you really should have picked someone a little smarter."
YN really wants to give him a piece of her mind but right now it's everything she can do not to pass out. She barely got any sleep, her body hurts from everything Taehyung did to her and she hasn't eaten since she was first kidnapped.
"You're such an asshole," is the best she can do.
"She's so pretty though," Taehyung says, causing YN's skin to crawl, "I don't mind her being a little slow."
She hates him. The group falls silent. For several minutes, no one says anything at all.
"Is anyone going to tell me what's going on?!" YN asks, frustrated and terrified.
"Don't ask questions, darling. That's not very becoming for a woman," Taehyung says, turning his head around and smiling at her, "Curiosity killed the cat, you know."
Taehyung waves his hand in the air.
"But don't worry, YN. You'll find out soon enough."
YN doesn't dare press him further. Dread lays heavy in her stomach.
After traveling for quite some time more, Taehyung stops at what looks like just another piece of the hallway, rapping his knuckles against it three times. A secret door swings inwards and Taehyung steps into it, everyone following them.
When YN is inside the room, she sees a few more men with red ties around their heads. They stand with a hostage on his knees, the man's face concealed with a burlap bag.
"Good job, men," Taehyung says.
They bow their heads to him in appreciation.
"Let me see him."
One of the guards pulls the burlap sack off and YN's eyes widen.

don’t forget to sing
pairing: bucky barnes x reader

summary: You meet someone new in the most unlikely of ways during the quarantine in New York City. An alley is six feet apart, right?
chapter warnings: swearing, mention of sickness
masterlist
a/n: Let me know what you think!
This was just fucking perfect.
Of course. Of course you’d move to New York City three weeks before a fucking pandemic. Cities were a cesspool for illness, and the Big Apple was no exception.
Your dreams of going out and exploring the city and finding little spots that you could call your own now that you were a real New Yorker and not just a tourist anymore were gone. You’d been so busy unpacking and getting set up at your new job that you’d only gotten to go out for groceries.
And now all of New York City was shut down. Broadway was closed, for heaven’s sake. You couldn’t remember a time when that had ever happened in your lifetime.
It was mildly terrifying. And by mildly, you meant extremely.
Thankfully, your job was primarily online anyway. You were a playwright and you were basically an intern and assistant for Tony Kushner, possibly one of the greatest playwrights of all time.
But you were lonely. At least before you were ordered to stay home, you could go out and get a little human interaction at the grocery store, even if the cashier was just telling you your total. But now, everyone at the grocery store eyed each other warily. Like you’d infect them with the virus at any second.
Which, it was possible. It was why you only went late at night in order to avoid most of the crowds. And also why you’d sewn a mask out of an old t-shirt in order to protect yourself. And also why you’d stocked up on groceries so you wouldn’t have to go for about two weeks.
“I don’t know,” you said as you held the phone to your ear, wandering back and forth in your tiny little apartment. Your best friend was on the other side, a thousand miles away. “It’s getting really bad here.”
And, of course, she could try to understand, but Hope was all the way across the country. She’d gotten a job in her hometown in California after graduation. “I think we’re starting to head that way, too. Are you going to be okay?”
“I think so,” you said, trying to be cheerful as you sat at your desk, pulling your knees up to your chest. “I’m used to being alone, remember? I’m a writer. All I need is coffee and my laptop and I’m ready to hibernate.”
Hope let out a sigh, and you could hear the creak of her bed as she laid down. “I don’t know. I just think that maybe you should come out here.”
“I can’t. I don’t have that kind of money. And I just got here. I don’t want to run away at the first sign of trouble,” you said as you opened up your laptop. “Besides, I’m probably safer here locked away in my apartment by myself than I would be in your big house with you, your parents, and Scott. Your parents work in a lab with hundreds of other people. They have no idea if any of them have it. It’d probably be safer for you to come stay here with me.”
“Me in that shoe box?” She scoffed. “As if.”
Your laptop whirred to life as you ran your finger back and forth over the mouse pad. “We talked about this. You’re a California girl. I’m New York.” A smirk settled over your face as you cradled the phone between your ear and your shoulder, typing in your password. “Two households, both alike in dignity—”
“Jesus, theatre kids are the worst,” she muttered.
You barked out a laugh as you pulled up your latest word document. “I’m a grown woman, you know.” You reached over your desk and opened up the curtains, figuring you could use a little change of scenery, even if it was just the apartment building across the alley. The red brick was illuminated by the setting sun, the sky painted in shades of orange and gold.
There’s a tense pause between the two of you. There’s a lot of unspoken words.
The both of you know that this is serious. People are dying and there’s nothing the two of you can really do except hope and stay inside as much as possible and wash your hands. And this is the first time the two of you have lived apart since your sophomore year of university. It’s a big change and of course, all this happens right when you’re on your own.
“Are you going to be okay?” Hope asked, her voice cracking.
Taking in a shaky breath, you rest her head in your hand. “Yeah. Yeah, I’ll be okay. You just worry about staying healthy yourself, okay? And take care of your parents.”
Her parents were both a little older, and they were at risk with everything going around. They’d become your second family in the years since you’d first met Hope, and had even let you live with them for a while after graduation while you saved up for your move to New York City. Hell, they’d paid for you to come spend school breaks with them. They were your family.
And now you were all alone with no way to get to them. Even if you did want to fly, all incoming and outgoing flights were being canceled. They hadn’t officially announced that they’d be closing the airports, but it was coming.
A light in the apartment across the alley from yours flicked on, and your eyes were immediately drawn to it.
“Oh…,” you breathed out, accidentally cutting off what Hope was saying.
“What?”
“There’s a… There’s a man.”
“A man?! We are in a pandemic! There’s no dating in a pandemic!”
You went quiet as your elbow rested on your desk, your chin in your hand. “He’s… gorgeous.”
And gorgeous, he was. He looked like he’d just gotten out of the shower, with the towel swung low on his hips. Dark hair was smattered across his broad chest like some hero on the cover of a trashy romance novel. He ran his fingers through his long, damp hair as he opened up the drawers of his dresser, picking out boxers and sweats.
“God… He looks like he just walked off a photoshoot with, like… Vogue,” you said quietly. Drool was starting to drip from the corner of your mouth, you were so entranced.
“Wait… Really?” Hope said, her voice rising. “I need details! Now!”
Brows furrowed, you couldn’t take your eyes off of him. “You have a boyfriend.”
“Who I haven’t gotten to see in over a week. Scott is the love of my life, but I need to live vicariously through you,” she said. “The most romance we have right now is when his internet actually works and we get to FaceTime.”
You were in a trance, just watching him move around his room. “You know how cute I thought Jimmy Woo was? He was in my Econ class and then we went on, like… two dates?”
“Yeah.”
I would feed Jimmy Woo to a pack of hyenas if this man asked me to.”
But of course, nothing good could last. Your elbow slipped off the edge of the desk and your face slammed down onto the wood. “Oh, my god,” you groaned as you fell to the ground, clutching your mouth. “Holy fuck…”
Hope was shouting at you through the phone, demanding to know whether or not you were okay. She was more frantic than you’d ever heard her.
Pulling your hand away from your face, you winced as you saw the dark red blood. “Shit. Shit, shit, shit…” You didn’t think you’d knocked out a tooth, thank god. You were sure that you’d be able to feel that. “Yeah… I think I’m okay.” You started to pull yourself up, glaring at the blood that was on the edge of the desk.
But when you found the Most Handsome Man in the World staring at you from his window, looking just as worried as Hope sounded in his towel, you quickly ducked back down, willing him to go away. You don’t think you’d ever been so embarrassed.
“Hope, I’m going to throw myself from the Brooklyn Bridge,” you hissed into the phone as you sat on the floor, leaning against your desk. “He saw me bust my face open! Or he heard it!”
There’s a pause, and then a snort. “You have to admit, it’s kinda funny. And the type of thing that would only happen to you.”
“Gee, I’m so happy you’re having fun with this,” you said.
You stayed down there for an extraordinarily long time, hoping to whatever god was out there that he’d stop looking. When you finally emerged from your hiding place, you found that he was watching a movie with his bedroom light off, his eyes completely focused on the television.
And there was a whiteboard leaning against the window, messy scrawl in blue marker.
Hope you didn’t hurt yourself too bad!! And I’m glad you enjoyed the show ;)
More than a little appalled at how blatant he was, you grabbed a piece of notebook paper and a Sharpie, writing out your reply before sticking it to the window with a piece of tape.
Nothing but a busted lip and broken pride :(
You shut your curtains, carefully cleaning your wound before getting to work on your latest writing assignment. Though occasionally, you could remember the strange interaction and a smile would creep across your face.
Which would then cause you to wince in pain as the cut on your lip came open again.
Right before you went to bed, you peeked out of your curtains to see if he’d replied again.
Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone what I saw :) Goodnight!
You quickly wrote out a reply, taping it up before heading to bed.
Pinky promise? Goodnight!
When you woke up, there was already another note left for you, and the man seemed to be gone.
Good morning! I hope your lips feel better!
You had no idea when he’d be back or why the hell he’d left. It was a pandemic after all.
Granted, a lot of people still had to work in this whole mess. It was ridiculous.
Feeling a little bold, you wrote out a message.
You wanna kiss it better?
But you quickly crumbled up the piece of paper and threw it away. Despite the fact that you’d seen him almost completely naked the night before, you didn’t know him. He’d only said three sentences to you so far, and they were written out.
It was the quarantine equivalent of sliding into someone’s direct messages on Twitter or Instagram.
Should you even reply? He was… He was the kind of guy you saw on Love Island. Too perfect and too ripped and sweet and mysterious and friendly, all at the same time.
You’d been getting into a lot of shows you wouldn’t have watched before while quarantined. You’d watched the entire first season of the American version of the show, and you’d probably start the United Kingdom version sometime that day. It wasn’t like you had anything better to do.
“Have you written back to him?” Hope asked as you set up your laptop on your desk, pulling up Spotify.
“What?” You asked, your phone cradled between your ear and your shoulder. “No. It was a one time thing. It’s done.” Before she could reply, you said your goodbyes and hung up. You really needed to clean and that wasn’t going to happen if you chattered away on the phone with Hope like you usually did.
Music blasted from your laptop’s speaker after you hit play, and you threw open the window, letting the late winter air in. It had started to get really stuffy in your apartment and you needed something to do other than work and binge watching or you’d go insane.
You didn’t even notice that your neighbor that lived across the alley had come home, and was watching you with a delighted smile on his face.
You were half-dancing, half-cleaning, belting out the lyrics without a care as you got more and more into it. “Didn’t even know it! No punches left to roll with! You got to keep me focused! You want it? Say so!” You sang, twirling around with your trash can in hand as you picked up all the various little items. “Let me check my chest, my breath right quick! He ain’t ever seen it in a dress like this! He ain’t ever even been impressed like this!”
Unseen by you, the mysterious stranger took a few steps forward, grateful that he’d left his window open.
“Prolly why I got him quiet on the set like zip! Like it, love it, need it bad! Take it, own it, steal it fast! Boy, stop playin!’ Grab my ass! Why you acting like you—” You turned around, breaking off with a squeak as you saw him standing there watching you, your trashcan and an empty mug in hand. You were completely frozen as he stared at you with a slight smile, leaving you a deer in headlights.
Suddenly, you were hyper aware of just how awful you looked. Your hair hadn’t been washed, or your face. You were wearing a men’s two XL hoodie that you’d stolen from some guy you’d fucked for a few months in college and a pair of sweatpants that you’d had since you were on the middle school track team that were still too long in the feet. You’d done shot put and discus.
Why the fuck were you thinking about shot put and discus? You hadn’t thought about it over twelve years. It wasn’t like you were ever any good at it.
The Most Handsome Man in the World was staring at you, holding a takeout box at a mug of tea. But at least he was fully dressed, even if that didn’t awake away from how attractive he was. “Hey,” he said with an easy smile.
“Hi.” Your voice cracked as you spoke, and you’d never wanted to slam your head against the wall more. How could you be this much of a fucking loser?
“I like your music choice. Who is that?” He asked curiously as he set his food on the bed, kicking off his shoes before sitting down.
Yeah, he was definitely just as attractive fully clothed as he was naked, which was truly a feat in itself. Surely there was some kind of award for that, right?
You realized you’d been staring at him in silence and coughed, replying, “Doja Cat.”
“How’s your lip?”
“Good.”
“Good.”
The two of you stared at each other, him happily munching on the chicken nuggets he’d picked up. You hadn’t moved an inch.
“I’m James,” he said after swallowing. “But my friends call me Bucky.”
You gave him your name as you slowly moved a few steps closer, sitting down in your desk chair and pulling your knees up to your chest. “What kind of a name is Bucky?”
He chuckled, dipping his next nugget into the sweet and sour sauce. “My middle name is Buchanan. My best friend, Steve, started calling me Bucky when we were in kindergarten, and I don’t know… it just stuck.”
“I mean…” You shrugged, wrapping your arms around her legs. “‘S alright. I like James though.”
“You can call me James.”
“Oh. Okay.”
It felt intimate, somehow. Calling him by his first name.
The quarantine was forcing people to revert back to Victorian ways of social conduct. If you were lucky, you’d get your own Mr. Darcy.
But with the sweats you had on, it was more than likely that you’d end up an old spinster.
How did he find it so easy to talk to a complete stranger? Granted, you were a lot less intimidating than he was.
“How’s your lip?” He asked, his head tilting to the side as he peered over at you. “You don’t need stitches, right?”
There was an unspoken worry there. Needing stitches meant you’d probably go without, since all the hospitals were so backed up with those that had fallen ill. And going to the hospital just meant you’d risk your own health by coming in close contact with those going to get treated for Covid-19.
“If you do, I have a first aid kit I keep here in my apartment with the stuff to do stitches,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “But I wouldn’t exactly be able to come over there to help you. You’d have to do the stitches yourself.”
Your brows furrowed as you looked at him. “Why do you have the stuff to do stitches in your first aid kit? I did see this one episode of one of those crime shows where they used safety pins to hold a gash open, but I can’t remember what show it was.”
Mirth sparkled in his eyes as he watched you. “I’m a nurse.”
“Oh,” you said, relaxing. But then you remembered, and your heart sank. “Oh. I… James.”
James looked rather sheepish as he looked down at his feet. “It’s nothing really. But I can’t use the elevator since it would risk someone being in an enclosed space with me. So… you know. I don’t really need leg day, right?” He let out a weak laugh, clearly trying to blow it off. “I’m not allowed to use the gym anymore. Not that I would. I don’t want to risk infecting anyone, even if I don’t have it yet.”
The way he said ‘yet’ hurt your heart. He knew the position he was in, how dangerous it was.
There was nothing you could really say to him. What the hell could you say? Thank you for your service? Technically, you could, but you remembered how your dad had felt about it. He’d been a field doctor over in Afghanistan until he’d died on his fifth tour.
“I was just doing what needed to be done, sweetheart,” he’d said to you when you’d asked. “Trying to save as many people as possible. I don’t need thanks for that.”
But fuck. James was going out everyday to fight an opponent that he couldn’t see.
“My lip is fine,” you said eventually, breaking the silence with a weak smile.
“Good,” he said, clearing his throat. “I’ll let you get back to your solo concert. I’ve gotta shower.”
Things went on as normally. Or, at least, as normal as things could be in a time like that. Only now, you had someone to talk to that wasn’t Hope every night.
He wouldn’t tell you about what it was like at the hospital though. He’d get this far away look in his eyes and his face would pale. “Nothing you need to worry your pretty little head about, darlin,’” he’d croon, a sad smile on his lips. “You let me worry, and you just keep yourself safe and inside, okay?”
Sometimes you’d miss him. He’d be at the hospital for days on end, sleeping in on-call rooms and eating from vending machines. That’s when you’d leave little notes all over your window for him to read when he got back.
But then one day he came home and you could just tell that he was more worn down that usual.
“James?” You called out softly as you pushed the window open. You hadn’t seen him in two days. “Are you okay?” You leaned half out the window, your elbows resting on the ledge.
He took in a shaky breath, his eyes squeezing shut as he willed himself not to cry.
“James?” You’re about to repeat your question when he looks up, staring blankly at the wall.
“Steve has it,” he said quietly, his voice cracking.
Your heart stopped inside your chest. “Oh. Oh, James…,” you breathed out.
A few tears slipped down his cheeks, his hands clenched at his sides. “I went into a room in the ER and there he was.”
You’d heard so many stories about his best friend since childhood that you felt like you knew Steve already. Bucky had met him when they were just five years old, on the first day of kindergarten, and it’d been history from there. But Steve had been sickly and small up until they were about seventeen, when he’d undergone some revolutionary clinical trial. Fixing his heart and lungs had kick started his entire system and it was like everything magically went away.
“Not even that stupid treatment prevented him from getting sick,” Bucky said quietly. “He looked… He looked like he was on his deathbed.”
You paused, before crawling out of the window and out onto the fire escape. “James, take my hand.”
You knew it was stupid. It was really, really stupid. He was around those with the virus daily, but he needed you. You’d risk it to give him a little bit of comfort.
“What?” He said, looking at you like you’d grown a second head. “No. No. I can’t. What if I give it to you?”
“Then we’ll figure it out,” you said, insistently holding your hand out to him. “Take my hand.”
Sniffling, he reached his hand out of his window and took yours, your fingers intertwining. He took in a shaky breath, a fresh wave of tears coming on as he squeezed his eyes shut. “I don’t know what to do,” he admitted after a long moment just holding your hand. “I’m so fucking scared. I don’t want to go in there day after day. I know people need me but I…” He looked up at you with sea glass eyes. “I don’t want to die.”
“You’re not going to,” you said firmly, with as much conviction as you could muster up. “You hear me? You’re not going to die, and neither is Steve. We’re going to make it through this.”
“Sometimes I just… hold their hand,” he said, so quiet you could barely hear. “They’re dying alone. Their family and friends aren’t allowed in to see them. So I just… stay with them. So they have someone there.” Bucky lets his head fall into his chest, his shoulders slumping. “And then I have to call the family to let them know. And I just hope that maybe… knowing I was there with them helps a little. But it’s not the same.”
You tighten your grip on his hand, not daring to look down because you’re several stories up and if you lean a little too far, it would result in a trip to the hospital you can’t afford. You haven’t been outside in days.
You don’t realize that you’re crying right along with him until you taste the salty brine of your tears on your lips.
“We’re going to be okay, James,” you said, though you weren’t sure if you were trying to convince him or yourself. “This won’t last forever. And I’m going to be here with you, okay? No matter what happens. I’m here. I’ve got you.”
He squeezed your hand once more before letting go, nodding for you to go back inside. “Go wash your hands. Now.”
A smile creeps across your face as you surrender to his wishes, crawling back through your window. “Yes, sir.”
He’s touch and go the next few days. Sometimes he seems upbeat, positive even, about the whole situation. Others… Well. He had plenty of reason to be down.
“You know, you’re a pretty good singer,” he commented one night. He was sitting against the window, leaning his head against the frame. You had climbed out onto the fire escape again with a blanket wrapped around your shoulders. “That night that I heard you singing to that song… The Doja Cat one? You’re good.” His head tilted to the side in the way that a puppy might. “Why don’t you sing more often?”
“I used to,” you said after a deep sigh. “I used to sing a lot. I was going to be a musical theatre actress. But I got told so often that I was better at writing than performing so… I don’t know. I guess I just decided it’d be better to pursue something I was better at.”
His lower lip was caught between his teeth as he looked at you.
You’d never had someone look at you the way he did. Like he wanted to see all of you, like he craved it, needed it, even. It was exhilarating.
“That doesn’t mean you stop singing.” He moved to rest his chin in his palm. “Even if you don’t become a performer professionally, you don’t stop singing. Especially in times like these.”
“What? Like those fake videos of people in Italy?” You asked with a snort. A breeze wound through the alley and you tightened the blanket around you. “The one that Katy Perry retweeted?”
“You know that’s not what I mean,” he said with an eye roll. “My ma used to sing around the house. Hearing you… It made me feel like I was home again. Just for a little while.” He smiled slyly. “And you have pretty sick dance moves.”
Groaning, you climbed back into your window, shooting a glare at him. “You promised not to talk about my dancing!”
“It was cute!”
“Was not!”
“Was to!”
You took in a deep breath as you stared at him with narrowed eyes. “No,” you said, pointing a finger at him. “No, it’s not.” Before he could reply, you started to shut the window, calling out, “Goodnight, James!” The window shut with a definitive click and you winked as he flipped you the middle finger.
Steve came home three weeks later, completely clean of the virus. The quarantine finally ended on May 22nd, 2020, the amount of cases down to maybe a hundred that were contained within the hospital.
In that time, you’d gone outside a total of six times to get groceries. You’d gained ten pounds, even with the basic exercises you were doing in your apartment to keep you active. You’d also saved up two thousand dollars, since you weren’t going out and you’d put a parental lock on your laptop and phone so you couldn’t go online shopping until further notice, but you were lucky in that way. You had an extremely well-paying job that you could do online, and your boss wasn’t an asshole.
Millions of New Yorkers flooded the streets, crying and hugging and touching everyone.
You hadn’t been touched in so long. The last time had been when you’d held Bucky’s hand on your balcony, and that had been the only time he’d allowed it since he didn’t want to get you sick.
He’d been lucky that he didn’t get it himself. Most of those that had fallen ill were healthcare workers. Overworked, tired healthcare workers.
You stepped out of the front doors of your apartment building, feeling an overwhelming sense of elation. You’d already talked to Hope that morning on FaceTime. Her and her parents were celebrating by going to their favorite restaurant that was allowing dine-in again.
Tears pricked your eyes as you watched the people around you. It reminded you a little bit of those pictures of V-Day in New York City at the end of World War II.
But where was Bucky?
He’d been at work yesterday, and since you hadn’t seen him, it probably meant that he’d passed out in an on-call room instead of coming home.
But you needed to see him. You didn’t care if he was all gross and greasy. You just needed him.
You loved him.
Your eyes locked in on a familiar head of long, brown hair sticking a little bit above the crowd. He was awful tall. When he turned his head, it only confirmed it. “JAMES!” You shouted, trying to break through the roar of the crowd. “JAMES!”
His brows furrowed, his head turning a little towards the sound of his voice. When his eyes landed on you they went wide as saucers, his lips forming your name even though you couldn’t hear him over the people.
The two of you pushed through the hordes of people, trying to reach one another. When you finally broke through, you threw yourself into his arms, your arms wrapping around his neck as he twirled you around. The both of you were crying happy tears, wide smiles on your faces.
“We made it,” you whispered, your voice cracking. “We’re okay.” You pulled back enough to cup his face, so many words you wanted to say getting caught in your throat.
But before you could say them, he pulled you into a kiss, one hand on the back of your head and the other on your hip. Grinning against your lips, he dipped you just a little, holding you tight. To passerby, it was a remnant of the iconic V-Day kiss. But you couldn’t think about that. All you could think about was Bucky.
“Hi,” he said softly as he pulled away, breathing heavily.
Your nose nudged against his as your eyes fluttered open. “Hi.”
He stole another kiss, your heart skipping a beat inside your chest. “You better not stop singing now that this is over,” he said quietly as he held you to him, refusing to let go. “Can’t go a day without hearing your pretty voice.”
“You’re a sap.”
“Your sap.”
“My sap?!”
He had a cheeky smile as he looked at you, cupping your cheeks. “Does this mean I can take you on a date now?”
You were lucky. You knew people who got the virus, but none of them had died. Others didn’t have the same luck unfortunately, and it was a tragedy. But you don’t stop singing during dark times. You just sing a little louder.

min yoongi x reader, jeon jungkook x reader ;
angst, light fluff ; wc : ~2.6k
warnings: some swearing
in all his years of existing, min yoongi doesn’t think he has ever loved someone as much as he loves you. after all, he knows, deep in his soul, that you’re the one for him.
however, jeon jeongguk also thinks that you are the one for him, so yoongi might have more than a few problems with that.
Just like that, Yoongi thinks, you’re slipping through his fingers once again. He wants to throw up. Or pass out. Or straight up die. One of the three would be preferable.
He hadn’t meant to overhear… he had just wanted to come see you. Maybe surprise you with burgers from your favorite diner two blocks away. You had mentioned that you weren’t feeling well at all, and that you were in dire need of a pick me up. Yoongi doesn’t know why he immediately hauled ass to that diner you loved so much just to get you a burger and some fries, especially when you had a boyfriend who could do it for you.
Said boyfriend went by the name of Jeon Jeongguk, an irritating photographer who happened to have a knack for literally everything in the world. It’s almost a bit unfair, how good he was at everything, but at least he treated you well, so at least there was that.
On second thought, it wasn’t just a bit unfair, it was really fucking unfair. Jeongguk had loved you for what? Two, three years? And here he was, living the life of Yoongi’s dreams. Waking up with you, making breakfast with you, just being with you in general. Yoongi almost wants to cry at the thought.
Going back to the matter at hand, Yoongi recalls with startling clarity the moment he had heard Jeongguk’s voice. He was just about to round the corner to yours and Jeongguk’s shared apartment when he heard it.
“...listen, she can’t know, alright? Whatever happens, (Y/N) cannot find out.” Jeongguk’s voice was hushed, and warning flags were raising at the back of Yoongi’s mind. Was he cheating on you? Pissed, he stopped in his tracks, listening intently.
“...what?” Jeongguk continues. “Yeah, yeah. I’ve got the ring ready. Am I…? Of course I am. I love her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. She’s the one, hyung. She’s the one.”
Oh, Yoongi thinks. Oh.
The burger and fries are left on the stairwell.
-
The first time Min Yoongi meets you is on his birthday. Winter was on its last breaths, and he was grateful. No one told him that twenty-five was the age when all your joints started to ache like a grandpa, and he hated it severely. The cold wasn’t helping him much with joint pain either.
It was snowing too, so Yoongi had to make sure to actually wear a coat. It looked like his days of wearing a t-shirt and ripped jeans out in the snow were long gone.
There was nothing special about the day he met you. Perhaps, it was so that you could stand out even more. Not that you needed help standing out; you were already breathtaking on your own. With cosmic assistance? You were absolutely lethal.
He had a camera that day, if only to humor his friend, Jimin, who was devastated that he was spending his birthday alone. You have to at least take pictures, okay? He had insisted through a very static-y phone call the night before. Prove to me that you went out for your birthday. Treat yo self! Jimin squealed. Yoongi had to pull his headphones off at that.
You were sitting on a bench, talking on the phone. You were laughing, and for one cliche moment, Yoongi’s heart stopped. Maybe it was the sunlight hitting you just right, or maybe it was your (frankly contagious) laughter, but he was pretty sure you were almost too pretty to exist.
His hands moved before he could think too much of it, and before he knew it he had taken a picture of you.
There was no sign that you had noticed, and Yoongi almost felt ashamed at the action. He decided to approach you, show you the picture and then ask if he could keep it. However, you stood up the moment he took a step forward. You left, never to be seen again.
Well, not really.
You were a friend of a friend who then introduced the two of you to each other. He was overjoyed of course, but as much as Yoongi wanted to convince himself that it had nothing to do with how pretty you were and everything to do with showing you the picture, it was definitely because he was so smitten with you that he actually forgot his name when you introduced yourself.
(And that day, Yoongi decided that it was love at first sight. Or second. Whatever. He was in love, anyways.)
-
It’s at your birthday party when he decides. He’s going to tell you. He’s going to confess.
Maybe not now, not tonight, but someday.
You look stunning, he decides. You were wearing this red off-shoulder dress which fell to your knees, and some heels which Yoongi knew must be hell on earth for you. You never did like heels.
Your apartment was filled with your friends, some from college and some from work, he deducts, as he meets eyes with a couple of strangers. He smiles awkwardly and turns back to his drink, searching for a familiar face when—
“Yoongi!” You call out happily. The stiff excuse for a smile he had plastered on his face melted into something more genuine as he faced you. “Hello, flower.”
Your already rosy cheeks flush more from the endearment and Yoongi chuckles. He used to tease you about your love for plants and wanted to give you a nickname related to it. Unfortunately, calling you ‘cactus’ just didn’t have that air of lovesickness that he was aiming for, so ‘flower’ would have to do.
You pull him into a hug and he grumbles for a moment, pretending to hate it. You know that he loves hugs, though, and you just laugh and hold him tighter. He can only hope you can’t tell how hard his heart was pounding.
When you pull away, he misses your warmth almost immediately. “How are you?” You grin. “Enjoying the party so far?”
He lets out a small laugh. “You know, I should be the one asking you that, birthday girl. Although, I am surprised you went for a party this year instead of the usual dinner.”
“Actually…” you pause, smiling sheepishly. “I didn’t want a party either. Jeongguk just thought it would be nice since it could double as a little celebration for my promotion as well.”
Ah. The promotion. Yoongi remembers when you had just graduated college, desperately trying to get into the industry you wanted. You used to cry over every rejection email, but now… You were doing great, and he couldn’t be more proud of you. Regardless, he grins at your admission.
“Knew it.” He teases, and you mock grumble at him before smiling again, looking away. Meanwhile, Yoongi couldn’t take his eyes off of you. He could only pray that no one could tell he was giving you heart eyes.
“Babe!” Jeongguk’s voice cuts through the comfortable silence between you two. Yoongi can’t tell if it’s just his personal bias against the guy, but he was really fucking irritating. Add that to the fact that you used to call Yoongi ‘babe’ before Jeongguk started calling you that, and Yoongi was starting to get more than a little pissed. Another thing to add to the list of things Jeongguk had stolen from him.
But were you ever his to begin with? A voice in Yoongi’s mind whispers.
Shut up, he hisses back.
“Cake time!” Jeongguk calls out again, and you shoot Yoongi an apologetic grin as you leave his side and approach your golden retriever of a boyfriend.
People begin to gather around you as Jeongguk holds the cake for you with the candles lit up. You’re grinning, and while Yoongi doesn’t sing along, he is staring at you with the most lovesick look in his eyes that he’s sure if anyone were to see him, they would know.
His mind begins to drift as he imagines a world where he’s the one holding your cake. Maybe you would smear some icing on his cheek after blowing the candles out. Would you two be the absolutely cheesy couple everyone pretended to hate but were actually jealous of? Maybe. And you know what, Yoongi would actually love that. He would—
He hears Jeongguk say your name, and when he focuses, Jeongguk is down on one knee and his heart falls.
“...you are the best thing to ever happen to me. You don’t just make me a better person, you make me want to be a better person for me. For you. I wake up in the morning and I want to cry because I feel so goddamn lucky that you chose me. Out of all the people in this universe, you chose me. You saw me, and you took care of me, and you loved me. You gave me the world, (Y/N), but I want to give you the universe.” Jeongguk pauses, and even from a distance, Yoongi can see that the younger man has tears in his eyes.
So does Yoongi. His ears are ringing, and all he can do is watch as Jeongguk asks the million dollar question:
“(Y/N), will you marry me?”
SIlence, and then:
“Yes!”
His heart shatters into a million pieces.
-
Min Yoongi was a coward, that much he knew.
After five years of loving you silently (and multiple times of flirting with each other), he was done. Time to move on. It’s been half a decade, and he was never sure if you felt the same way. Maybe you did, but he didn’t want to risk losing you.
So he did the thing most people would do after deciding to move on: get absolutely shitfaced at the nearest bar.
Truth be told, even now, three and a half years later, he did not remember what happened that night. He assumes he had a one night stand, if the woman he woke up to was any evidence.
What he did not expect was you barging into his apartment, demanding to see him because you needed to tell him—
What you wanted to tell him, Yoongi would never know, because when you asked if the girl in the bathroom was his girlfriend, he had the stupid idea to lie and tell you that yes, she is my girlfriend. Just made it official last night.
He was too damn proud of himself being able to “move on” from you to see you deflate. In a span of seconds, you went from excited to the verge of tears. When you heard the bathroom door open, you hurriedly excused yourself and booked it out of his apartment.
What Yoongi didn’t know was that you were going to confess.
But as you power walk out of his apartment complex, you come to the conclusion, that maybe, just maybe, he’s just not into you. And you were merely boo boo the fool.
After that, texts between you and Yoongi were sparse. You stopped hanging out. You stopped sending each other memes at three in the morning. You just stopped… seeing each other.
By the time Yoongi pulled his head out of his ass and sucked it up, it had been a year, and you had a sparkly new boyfriend named Jeon Jeongguk.
-
Yoongi decided that this was, quite possibly, the worst year of his life. Nothing like watching the love of your life get engaged to someone else, and then be forced to watch her marry someone else months afterwards to really rub the salt in.
But then again, you aren’t Mrs. Jeon. Yet, anyways, Yoongi thinks bitterly. In less than twenty four hours, he will truly have lost you, and this time, there’s no getting you back.
And so, like the genius that he was, he decides to call you. In the middle of the night. To the local park. Why? Honestly, Yoongi had no idea. He just wanted, needed to see you one last time.
When you arrive, the park is silent. You look adorable, Yoongi thinks fondly, but even that innocent thought was enough to make tears well up in his eyes. God, he was so in love with you it hurt.
“(Y/N),” he begins once you’re close enough to hear. “I need to tell you something—”
“Yoongi,” you whisper. You look pained, he notes.”Don’t—”
“Don’t what?” He cuts you off, scoffing. The tears begin to fall. “Don’t say it? You don’t want me to tell you about how I’ve been in love with you my whole life? You don’t want me to tell you how much I wish it was me you’re marrying tomorrow?” He wipes at his tears angrily. “What do you want me to do?”
He breathes in raggedly, looking up to the sky in desperation. When he looks back at you, your heart breaks for him.
“Flower, I can’t.” He begs. “I can’t let you go. I can’t lose you. Not again. Please—” A sob tears through his throat. “I love you.”
He feels your hands cup his face, wiping at the wetness on his skin. He’s almost grateful that he can’t see you through his tears, because he knows you’re crying too. He hated seeing you cry.
“Yoongi,” you say softly. “I love you too, but we can’t. We’ve been dancing around this for almost a decade, babe. Our time has passed, Yoongi.” Your hands have moved, one on his waist and another on the back of his neck. When he sees your tears, he finally breaks. He collapses into your arms, sobbing, grasping at you desperately.
When you speak next, your voice is muffled as you comb through his hair with one hand and pull him closer with the other. “I will always love you, Yoongi. Always.” You say fiercely, surely, and Yoongi almost wants to believe you. “But I love Jeongguk too. He…” You pause, trying to find the right words. “He’s the one for me.” You admit, and Yoongi hates it so much because you were the one for him.
The two of you slowly sink onto the ground, with your arms still around him as he cries. For losing you, for being too late, and for what could have been. His sobs echo in the empty park and you cry with him.
When his sobs die down and his breathing gets calmer, he pulls away from your embrace. When your arms fall to the sides, he moves closer to you, pressing his forehead to yours, eyes closed. “I love you,” he whispers, and he’s so close you can feel his breath on your face. “I will always love you.”
When your eyes flutter open, his eyes meet yours.
Around you, the snow begins to fall.
“I…” You breathe out. “I should go. Jeongguk’s waiting for me at home.”
He nods slowly. “Okay,” he whispers. “Okay. Get home safely.”
You nod and stand up, offering a hand. He shakes his head and stands up on his own.
No words are said.
You nod, and turn to leave. When your figure disappears into the night, Yoongi lets his tears fall once more.
“Goodbye, flower,” he whispers into the night. The wind blows.
I love you.

You're sitting on the floor, against the farther corner from the door of the interrogation room. Now you're more safe than four hours ago, when you left your house after several kicks and punches all around your body. Your stepfather got drunk again, like every night, and when he fell asleep you ran away from Stockton.
“We found her wandering through a secondary road. I think she's been walking for more than three hours”.
“What happened?” Your father asks with the jaw so tense about to crunch.
“We don't know, she doesn't speak. We gave him a jacket and a dry shirt”.
“Go with her, brother. We will wait here”. Jax narrows one of his shoulders, before following Hale into the police station.
You still feel cold because of the rain and your wet hair, curling your knees against your chest to surround them with both arms looking for some warmth. Your whole body is a mess of pain. Your sides hurt every time you breathe. Your knees, your knuckles, your elbows are scratched and reddened from trying to crawl over the floor, trying to run away from your stepfather and every hit. You're lucky that Hale and Stef found you, on their way back from the neighbor city. They recognized you immediately because of the tattoo in your arm. “Daughter of Anarchy”. Three simple words that would make your enemies fear you, just by reading them.
Happy can see you through the big opaque glass, shaking and crying, scared like a defenseless little animal. His heart breaks into thousand pieces, when he finally opens the door and you raise your eyes towards him. Your father focuses his attention on your face; on the several wounds covered by dry blood, on the black mark growing around your left eye, on the sad gesture. His chest begins to hurt too. The man takes some steps, pulling back the hand on the doorknob to close it, while you try to get up. Having to support a hand on the wall, you surround your own abdomen with the other, drawing a light grimace of affliction.
You're about to fall when he takes two fast strides towards you, holding your anatomy between his arms. Now you know that you are safe, that you don't have anything to worry about. That you are at home.
“Dad is here, babygirl”. He mutters into your ear with a soft tone of voice, caressing your messed hair. “Dad is gonna protect you, okay?”
Clinging your arms on his back, you nod drowning the loud cry against his chest. Your father kisses your head, before raising you up to carry you like when you were a child. His little warrior. Hiding your face in the crook of his neck and closing your eyes, you let your brain rest at least. You don't care about the people who are staring at you, or about the ‘thank you, brother’ Happy says to the sheriff. You don't even care about the kiss your uncle Jax leaves on your cheek, caressing it with the back of his forefinger.
“Welcome home, baby”.
Your eyelids are closed strongly because of the stir and the burn on your face, while Chibs tries to fix you up with some cotton, iodine and peroxide, being assisted by Juice when he's about to put some stitches over your skin. Your father is holding your hands with his left, caressing your back with the other to comfort you. Feeling more calmed than an hour ago, you put your eyes on the blues in front of you. Jax is examining every single move his vice makes, figuring out every hit that bastard gave you.
“I'm gonna kill him, brother”. Happy sentences without giving a millimeter of margin to avoid it. “I'm gonna hang him from the ceiling by his ankles. I'm gonna use him like a boxing bag. I'm gonna rip off every inch of his skin to make him eat it. I'm gonna open his chest with a knife wetted in salt and vinegar, till he bleeds out. And then, I'm gonna set him on fire in front of that fucking bitch, who let that fucking disgrace hurt my babygirl”.
Nobody is scared. Nobody is surprised. And nobody is going to stop him. You know what they do, why they do it, how they do it and where they do it. Your father doesn't have any secrets for you or your grandmother. You know everything about his life and his past. Your mother left him for a try of gangster, and brought you with her without giving you the possibility to choose. Of course, because she knew you were going to choose your father.
A wild tear rides down your cheek, making Jax squats next to you placing both ringed hands on your knees. He raises one of them to clean your crying, drawing a soft and kind smile.
“Don't cry, you're at home now, okay? We're gonna take care of you, darling”.
You nod in silence, while the blonde man leans over you to hug you with the permission of your father by a look.
“I love you, you know it?”
“Yes”.
“And do you know that you are the most brave girl I have ever met?” Jax says then, caressing the back of your head. You nod again with a fleeting smile on the corner of your lips. “What if you go to… have some rest in Happy's dorm? We can work on your bike tomorrow. Opie has brought it there”.
Your father helps you to get up, under the gazes of every Son close to you.
“Juice, stay with her while we're out”. Tig says palming the puerto rican's back.
“Dad”. You call his attention before the other places an arm above your shoulders. Happy looks at you with no expression on his face, zipping his jacket. “Make them suffer for set us apart”.
“I will, my love”.
