I saw this advertised in Makai Nightmare in August but I don’t live in Japan and I’m not Japanese; I don’t know if anyone outside of Japan can purchase any of these perfumes? I don’t know if Scently will ship their perfumes overseas or how expensive shipping overseas would be. If these weren’t from a different country from my own I would have considered buying one.

I keep watching them over and over because I’m otome trash and may be totally obsessing over Toa at the moment, so I went ahead and translated them too so everyone else can watch!

Rio: It says the loser from the last game goes first…so it’s all you, Toa! Toa: A sentence of this caliber should prove no obstacle. Toa: …Mmm, it's so sweet… Rio: Ah, so it's sweet! ...Wait. Toa, what are you eating? Toa: The special limited edition parfait from the cafeteria. I went and got it while you were busy doing the cat impression. Rio: Oh wow, it looks super super yummy…! Rio: Hey! Say...could I maybe just- Toa: No. Toa: I was the winner of the game, it's my prize. There's none for you. Rio: Gah, but surely you could share just a little? Just one little taste? Please? Toa was totally being a jerk at the end lmao But also why does his voice sound so good to me when he’s eating the parfait?? 😅 Serious props to his VA for pulling off that tongue twister, though. Sorry for y’all’s busted ears from hearing Rio impersonate Robin, by the way lololol

Oh! They are! It’s less obvious in English, but each is named after some sort of adjective corresponding with their sin! (I researched this a while back after someone told me-)

Here’s a list of all of them (Japanese/English):

• Monas sounding similar to Mammon/ Avari meaning Greed

• Quifer sounding similar to Lucifer/ Qelsum coming from the Latin word celcus meaning Pride

• Belve sounds like Belphie for Belphegor/ Akedia stems from acedia (like mentioned by op :D) meaning apathy for sloth

• Modea, sounding like the middle of Asmodeus [as-Mode-us]/ Luxure is French for lust

• Revia sounding like the first part of Leviathan (though in the JP menus it is spelled with an R and definitely NOT meant as Levia)/ Invidia, Latin for envy

• Sata is Satan with no N/ Ira; anger or wrath

• Lezele sounding like a modification the middle of Beelzebub [be-(L)elze(le)-bub]/ Voleri comes from volere, which is Spanish for want

• Elsa (Idk, don’t ask me)/ Tristitas, meaning despair; for a long time this was considered an 8th deadly sin

• Abel(l, spelled with 2 Ls in the jp English Harem Route Prince’s Path chapter titles) name of Cain’s brother/ Vanum meaning empty or vain

I made this list a long time ago, so I don’t have my sources for the English names… I’m pretty sure half of them are on the fandom wiki but idk. I think I just googled the names—

I thought Vanum was interesting though because using the name Abel is… somewhat symbolic given what happened to them.

Could not find why they picked Elsa though…

ok so i was working out princes -> mortal sin

but there's eight 'princely' options... and apparently there's no modern 8th deadly sin. but Dia isn't really a prince, is he? and he's from Akedia ...

which of course none of the fellows are 1:1 on their 'deadly sin' but i thought it was funny that people considered acedia something that would lead monks to leave their lives of devotion to god and thus counted as a cardinal sin. and that little brat is always skipping class and sneaking out from under Jay's and Lou's noses to go look at mushrooms in the forest, and even tries to manipulate Lou to get out of remedial coursework if i'm remembering some of the story right

idk. just thought it was fun :) Acedia as a precursor to sloth (Lynt, well, I guess the whole country is obsessed with sleep but w/e) but originally as the sin of apathy and frustration that leads you away from your obligations. (and Dia's lineage is from a country that no longer exists, another parallel with the once-mighty 8th deadly sin that is no longer)

Why doesn't Voltage use the princes' actual last names in the English version? Is it because it'll be easier to remember if their countries were used as surnames?

Real last names: Guy Monus, Lynt Belve, Fenn Modea, Toa Quifer, Roy Revia, Rio Lezele

Note: I found out that the reason for the different last names in the Japanese audio versus the English writing is because the names in the Japanese version are named after demons/seven princes of Hell. The Japanese title is even “Hell Princes and Enchanted Nightmare.” Also, the names in the Japanese version are similar to the Obey Me! characters. I think it was smart for Voltage to completely change the last names in the English version and base them off of Latin.
