Was there a specific event or conversation which opened your OC's eyes to a particular reality? Do they ever regret learning the truth and feel nostalgic for their former innocence?

This is likely obvious given the scale of the event in question but the first thing that comes to mind are the days leading up to the Calamity and the falling of the lesser moon itself.

The Garlean army is made largely of conscripts. I begin with this as I'm not entirely sure how much of the fandom knows this fact. Said conscripts, especially those of conquered territory, are forced into compliance via threats to their family and loved ones. Which was why Eirini was such a good soldier while she was unwillingly in their service.

The thought of dissertating first entered her mind when rumors of Project Meteor began to filter through the ranks. The idea solidified when she realized that her hometown would be in the blast range should they succeed. Eirini didn't get a chance to until the Calamity itself. She was doing scout work when Dalamud fell. Her unit is presumed dead by Garlean officials and as far as she knows they're mostly right.

She was found by medics approximately a day later, dazedly wandering among the dead and dying. What focus she could muster was solely focused on aiding those that she could. And praying for those who she could not.

In the span of a year or thereabout, Eirini learned that all of her efforts to protect her parents were for naught and lost everything she held dear. She also found safety and shelter with an elezen woman named Marguerite who allowed Eirini to live with her in her home.

Eirini doesn't regret learning what she did and she has no fond memories of her time in service to be nostalgic for. She does however wonder about her past from time to time as she remembers little of it. She only remembers growing up in a fishing village. Even the name she goes by is one she gave herself after the Calamity.

they're classmates actually!! and Rosienne had called Vil a spoiled brat on the first day of classes <3 (to be fair he didn't know that Vil was a celebrity and was confused why everyone's making such a fuss about him)

as for falling in love.... well. they didn't really like eachother much at first (tho most of it was just Rosienne projecting his issues with self worth onto Vil) until Vil saw Rosienne have a huge breakdown and kinda helped him thru it. after that Rosienne was forced to admit that he had judged Vil wrong and actually apologised to him (which was a huge deal because Rosienne HATES apologising and admiting that he's wrong, he had to swallow a lot of pride to do it). seeing that Rosienne was willing to change, Vil wanted to help him feel more confident (also, he would never say it, but even when they were just class rivals, he actually really enjoyed the fact that Rosienne never treated him any different from the other students and always put him up to a challenge)

they became closer friends in their second year at NRC. Rosienne actually fell first because well. he does actually fall in love pretty easily — you show him just a bit of attention and he's GONE lmao (it's actually kind of sad tbh). but it wasn't just that; it was mostly just that while being friends, he got to see a different side of Vil, see that he's actually really caring and hard working

it took Vil a bit longer tho. the summer break between their sophomore and junior year they spent a lot of time texting and calling eachother and sharing little bits of their lives and when Vil saw Rosienne at the beginning of the next school year he had his little "OH" moment (tho i feel like he knew it before, it was just the moment he finally allowed himself to admit that he has caught feelings)

but they're both hopeless idiots so they hid their feelings for months </3 Rosienne thought that even if Vil is a good friend, there's still no way Vil could actually have any romantic feelings for him and Vil thought that since Rosienne is so obsessed with romance and always complains about the couples in romance movies not communicating, he would actually make the first move if he had any feelings for Vil. so they both just pretended there was Nothing There because they still valued their friendship a lot and didn't want to destroy it

it's all just one big painful slowburn 🩷

sooo yeah! rini is a god's avatar, so....here's a real form of his! he doesnt like this form very much, though. he prefers to look more like his creator, since being reminded you're merely a vessel for someone else is.....yeah....it takes a lot of energy to be in a more 'human' form, so the strain makes his anxiety...somewhat worse...besides other things...so. yeah. he stays in the other form, and doesn't like explaining why he doesn't use it. though, when he's alone, he lets it go since nobody else can see him...but he avoids mirrors no matter what.
