Women’s safety is more important than men's gender feelz
By Genevieve Gluck April 2, 2024
Recent landslide victories secured by a women’s football team with five trans-identified male players have sparked controversy, leading one club manager to reveal that at least 20 female players have excluded themselves from the sport in recent weeks in order to avoid competing against the men.
Frank Parisi, president of St. Patrick’s Football Club, spoke with Reduxx and revealed a range of problems that had arisen as a result of men playing in women’s football matches, as well as an incident in which a female player’s leg was broken in two places.
The Flying Bats Football Club in North West Sydney, Australia, has on its team five males who identify as transgender. The team was awarded a $1,000 prize after winning the North West Sydney League pre-season Beryl Ackroyd Cup on March 24, following a season of winning every game they played in the Women’s Premier League matches, 10-0.
As previously revealed by Reduxx, one of the five men on the women’s football team is trans activist Riley Dennis, who was previously accused of severely injuring women while participating on another women’s team. However, the problems created by the male players on The Flying Bats team aren’t limited to safety risks and fair sport for women. Female players have been self-excluding from the sport by the dozens, says Parisi, in order to avoid competing against the trans-identified men.
The information first came to light when an audio recording of Parisi speaking during a meeting on the evening of March 20 was leaked on social media.
The meeting, held at Christie Park, was organized by the Northwest Sydney Football Association in response to an informal discussion among football club presidents that had taken place three days prior. That initial gathering was convened on March 17 in order to address “concerns around how implausible it has become for any team to win against the Flying Bats as well as physical safety concerns.”
In the audio clip, Parisi can be heard describing an incident that took place “a couple of years” prior in which a female player was so severely injured by a trans-identified male player that she was no longer able to participate in the sport.
“A couple of year ago, one of the Flying Bats players broke one of our players’ legs in a game. It was a clumsy tackle from behind. Our player had her leg broken in two places and she’s no longer playing football. It was a direct result of a real bad, tall player… he didn’t get a red card. Accidents happen, but this could have been avoided,” Parisi said at the meeting.
“One of our players rushed over to try to help her, she was screaming in so much pain. At that time, she made a derogatory remark to the Bats player, which we apologized for. [She was] suspended. The Bats player, nothing happened to [him].” Parisi clarified that following this incident, the player was suspended from matches for a total of eight weeks. Parisi further revealed that 24 women had recently withdrawn their registration with his football club as a “direct result” of the possibility of competing in a match against the males on the Flying Bats team. “They’ve all said to me, ‘Frank, we do not want to play against the Bats players.’ I’m going to say it straight, there’s men playing in a women’s competition. And that’s wrong.”
Speaking with Reduxx, the president of St. Patrick’s Football Club confirmed that the player who had broken the female player’s leg was a male playing on a Flying Bats team in the 2022 season, but was unable to provide the personal identities of those involved. He emphasized that the male player could not have been Dennis, despite his history of injuring female opponents, as at the time he had not yet transferred to the Flying Bats from Inter Lions, and that the injury occurred in a different division.
Parisi also explained that of the total of 24 women who deregistered from the St. Patrick’s Football Club within the past several weeks, at least 20 stated that they had done so in response to becoming aware that they would be expected to play against The Flying Bats’ male team members.
“There’s a massive impact. I’m a very small club, we’ve only got seven teams in my club, and now I’ve lost both my women’s teams, and it was a direct result of members of The Flying Bats who were male playing in a female competition,” Parisi told Reduxx, though emphasizing that he was hopeful for an eventual resolution.
There are a total of at least nine trans-identified males playing football within the women’s leagues, “not just the five” in The Flying Bats Women’s Premier League, Parisi added, citing a comment made by another of the club presidents in attendance at the March 20 meeting.
According to regulations put forward by the North West Sydney Football Association (NWSFA), “players may register and participate on the basis of their gender identification.”
“This is not about the sexuality of the players, because I have had a lot of players on my team who are lesbians. So it’s got nothing to do with that. It’s the fact that there is a number of males… It’s more than five. And everyone is just remaining silent on this, and it’s just so wrong in so many ways.”
Last year, after winning a title, one of Parisi’s women’s teams turned down the opportunity to be promoted to the Women’s Premier League, the highest level before players can enter state-based competitions.
A Flying Bats Club Committee Member accepting a Fair Play award following the severe injury of a female player in 2022.
“Our girls played in Women’s All Age One, where there were no Flying Bats players. We then by winning that competition should have been promoted up to Women’s Premier League, and our girls rejected that. They didn’t want to play up in the women’s Premier League, because there was that Flying Bats team stacked full of male players.”
He continued: “I told the association, no, that I’ve lost a lot of players, and we can’t do that. They said, Okay, we’ll put you into All Age One, which is the next level down, a competition that we won last year.”
In 2022, the year in which a female player for St. Patrick’s FC had her leg broken by a trans-identified male associated with The Flying Bats, club president for the latter group, Jen Peden, was honored with a Fair Play award presented by the NWSFA – a fact announced to the club’s Facebook page with the comment, “We play nice.”
Last week, massive public outcry ensued after news broke of the five trans-identified players on the WPL Flying Bats team. In response, LGBTI Rights Australia, a Facebook community with over 250,000 followers, made a public statement mocking “TERF Nazis.”
“Congratulations to The Flying Bats Women’s Soccer Club who recently won the Beryl Ackroyd Cup! Transgender women have been proudly part of the Bats for 20 years, yet it took TERF Nazis up until this week to take notice,” reads the post. An image accompanying the statement is captioned, “To all the transphobes complaining, we suggest you train a bit harder.”
Flying Bats president Jen Peden told Daily Mail Australia last week: “As a club, the Flying Bats FC stand strongly for inclusion, and pride ourselves on safe, respectful and fair play, the promotion of a supportive community for LGBTQIA+ players, officials and supporters, and the significant physical, social and mental health benefits that participation in sport brings, especially to marginalized members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We are a club that values our cisgender and transgender players equally.”
She continued: “We strongly support the Australian Human Rights Commission’s guidelines for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse people in sport.”
During the March 20 meeting, which was attended by CEO of Football NSW John Tsatsimas and convened by CEO of NWSF, Matthew Geracitano, attendees were told that a decision to boycott participation by forfeiting matches against The Flying Bats would result in “disciplinary action” being issued.
“If there was a concerted effort by teams to forfeit games against a particular opposition that would be viewed as an act of discrimination,” said Chris Salmon, Chair of the Board of Directors for NWSF. While incidents of discrimination are weighed on a case-by-case basis, possible penalties include suspensions, from as little as two months to two years.
Football Australia’s Anti-Discrimination Policy defines “excluding people on the basis of their sex and / or gender identity status from participation in a competitive sporting activity” as a prohibited form of discrimination.

The Flying Bats have attributed their success to an “investment in a dedicated coaching position” rather than to the physical advantages their (5) male players have over the female football players they compete against.
By Genevieve Gluck September 23, 2024
An Australian “trans inclusive” Premier League women’s football team with multiple male players has scored another win yesterday against a women’s team. The Flying Bats Football Club will now progress into the women’s championships after defeating the Leichhardt Saints, 3-2.
The Flying Bats FC, which has at least five confirmed male participants, emerged victorious yesterday during Round 2 of the Premier League Football New South Wales (FNSW) Champion of Champions knockout competition. The Saints, an all-female team, has now lost the opportunity to compete in the finals, leaving the Bats one step closer to winning the women’s title. According to the FNSW website, the Champion of Champions tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the footballing calendar, with champions from each association pitted against each other in a “battle for supremacy.”
During the game yesterday, one of the trans-identified males on the Flying Bats team received one red card and two yellow cards – indicating serious in-game infractions for which he was ultimately pulled from the match completely.
Prior to the competition, the Leichhardt Saints women’s team had previously been undefeated all season. But the Flying Bats had a similar track record, winning all 17 games last season and scoring 76 goals while only a total of 8 points were scored against them. The Flying Bats have attributed their success to an “investment in a dedicated coaching position” rather than to the physical advantages their male players have over the female football players they compete against.
The Flying Bats is next scheduled to play against the Colo Soccer Football Club on September 29. The finals will be held closer to the end of October.
Earlier this year the team was awarded a $1,000 prize after winning the North West Sydney League pre-season Beryl Ackroyd Cup, following a season of winning every game they played in the Women’s Premier League matches, 10-0. The news generated significant outcry and resulted in The Flying Bats making international headlines.
Last month, Reduxx reported that The Flying Bats, a football club for “self-identified women and non-binary people,” had won the Grand Final 5-4 over West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Football Club. Due to the significant criticism the football club has attracted over the past year, security guards were present at the game and conducted bag checks, requiring all who attended to ditch their recording devices.
However, nearly 200 photos of yesterday’s match were published online, and Reduxx can now definitively name the five male players in the Flying Bats Women’s Football Club as Raili Haagensen, Josephine Massingham, Mattie Noble, Lian Sinclair, and Riley Dennis.
Dennis, born Justin and formerly a trans activist YouTuber, was previously identified by Reduxx as a player for the Flying Bats Women’s Premier League. Before transferring to the Flying Bats FC, Dennis was previously accused of severely injuring women while participating in matches for the New South Wales Inter Lions.
On May 21, 2023, during a game between the Inter Lions and the St. George football clubs at the Majors Bay Reserve, Dennis launched his smaller female opponent towards a metal fence using an aggressive tackle as the two chased down the ball.
Reduxx was provided footage of the match, which showed the female player laying on her side, unmoving, as the transgender player casually walked away. The month prior, Dennis was said to have injured another female player, who reportedly had to seek hospital attention as a result of her injury.

An anonymous source close to the situation explained to Reduxx that Dennis left the Inter Lions team following last year’s controversy. The source stated that Dennis then submitted at least three applications of interest for other teams, which were not accepted. The Flying Bats, however, approved his application to join the team. The football club’s official website states it is “the biggest LGBTQIA+ women’s and non-binary football club in the world,” having been founded in 1985.
The source told Reduxx that all of the known men competing for the Flying Bats FC in the Premier League are approximately 6 feet tall or slightly over, with Dennis standing at about 6’4″.

Another trans-identified male competing against women for the Flying Bats FC in the AA1 league is Lian Sinclair, a postdoctoral research associate in “critical mineral global production” at the University of Sydney.
In 2015, an academic queer theory paper authored by Sinclair titled “Magical Genders: The Gender(s) of Witches in the historical Imagination of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld” was published in the journal Mythlore. In the article, Sinclair discusses the “gendered history of witches and wizards in the consensus fantasy universe to explicitly challenge the error of gendered truth.”

On social media, Sinclair mocks women critical of gender ideology as “TERFs”, a pejorative acronym which stands for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist” and is often used in the context of threatening violence or abusive harassment. In March of last year, following a widely-publicized women’s rights demonstration in Melbourne which was unexpectedly attended by neo-Nazis, Sinclair posted to social media his thoughts on “TERF flirtations with Nazis.”
The Flying Bats FC has come under fire internally in the recent past, with other football clubs and coaches expressing concerns over the strength and size of the males competing in the club.
In March, the President of the St. Patrick’s FC, Frank Parisi, brought his concerns to the Northwest Sydney Football Association (NWSFA). In leaked audio of the meeting, Parisi could be heard informing the Association that he had lost more than 20 female players because they had refused to compete against the Flying Bats. Parisi also revealed that one of his female players had her leg broken by a trans-identified male associated with the Flying Bats, and that she had been penalized for “transphobia” following her injury.
During the meeting, which was attended by the CEO of Football NSW John Tsatsimas and convened by CEO of NWSF, Matthew Geracitano, attendees were also told that a decision to boycott participation by forfeiting matches against The Flying Bats would result in “disciplinary action” being issued.
According to regulations put forward by the NWSFA, “players may register and participate on the basis of their gender identification.” There are thought to be a total of at least nine trans-identified males playing football within the women’s leagues, though their identities have been protected and withheld by Australian media.
Last year, after releasing an article revealing Riley Dennis as the transgender football player accused of injuring female players at a women’s game, Reduxx was contacted by the eSafety Commissioner of Australia and advised to censor or delete the article.
The eSafety Commissioner then targeted social media users who had shared information from the Reduxx article on Dennis. One platform targeted, Ovarit, was encouraged to either delete the comments “misgendering” Dennis, or suspend the users responsible.
EDIT 9/23/24: A previous version of the article incorrectly failed to specify the match was a qualifier for the final championship, not the championship game itself.

Top Ten Arc V Characters (Updated)
I was doing another Yugioh tier list and noticed that my opinions on this changed drastically since I first watched Arc V. So here's an updated top ten Arc V characters. Some of these picks may be partially motivated by spite. Also, I'm definitely gonna go back and forth between sub and dub names. Arc V is about even in dub and sub for me and some of the dub names are easier for me so just bear with me.
10 Dennis Mackfield
Dennis is kind of just funny to me but he does also have a complete character arc that isn't botched or cut off in some way, which is more than I can say for some other Arc V characters. He's a naughty bad guy but an enjoyable one who was kind of just a brainwashed kid with a redemption I can accept.
9 Yuto
The only Yu boy I can comfortably say I still like. He's got a sympathetic backstory that realistically shaped his current personality and while he appears scarcely, I enjoy the times he does. I like his dynamics with Yuya, Ruri, and Shun.
8 Shingo Sawatari
He's a cringe fail boy. I like the cringe fail funny characters that exist to be laughed at. I do wish Sawatari had more of an arc or development but at the end of the day, he's entertaining and that's all a character needs to be sometimes.
7 Sora Shiunin
Rushed as shit redemption arc aside, I find Sora's energetic hyper personality of season 1 entertaining and Sora vs Shun genuinely felt like a huge betrayal. On paper, the reasons for his redemption work and are sympathetic, I just wish more time was dedicated to fleshing it out. Still, wanting more of a character is generally a good thing.
6 Shinji Weber
I like villains/antagonists who have valid reasons for being upset. If anything, they actually made Shinji too valid up until they pulled the "he wants to oppress the rich" thing out of their asses but that's a can of worms on its own. I think Shinji's motivation is understandable, even if, for the writers' intentions' sake he "went too far", and those are the kinds of antagonists I like most. Also, he's canonically good with kids like Crow is and I just really like that. It shows he's got a sweet centre beneath all the gruffness and anger he displays. I like that.
5 Riley Akaba
Talk about wasted potential jesus christ. "This character has known nothing but being a vessel for other people's desires. So let's end the series by forcing her to once again be someone's vessel!"
Horrific treatment aside though, I still enjoyed Riley as a character. I relate to her anxiety, I liked her arc while it lasted, she and Declan have such a great sibling bond, she's still a good character. But yeah... the way the narrative botched her did drag her down a few slots I'll admit.
4 Zarc
One of the only saving graces of the fusion arc as far as I'm concerned. His escalation of wanting more and more violence in his duels as the audience pressured him into harsher duels was interesting and felt narratively cohesive with the better parts of Yuya's arc. And the way he's eventually stopped, not by defeating him but by Yuya understanding him and reminding him why he was duelling in the first place, that's really touching. One of my favourite Arc V moments for sure.
3 Serena
Yeah, I like Serena more than Yuzu. Even putting aside the fact that I loved her Duel Links event and her fusion based deck, Serena stayed a good character. The narrative treated her as badly as it treated Yuzu but her personality, when she was in her right mind, remained the same: headstrong, stubborn, and fierce. Plus she was the first to defect from Duel Academia and she did it best in my opinion.
2 Shun Kurosaki
I like Shun for all the same reasons I like Yuto: his genuinely tragic backstory that damaged him and turned him into the edgelord we know and love him as. He's also just way more badass and has more character development than Yuto. The way he's able to regain some form of happiness and stability over the course of the series despite all the horrors he endured, thanks to his new bonds with characters like Crow and Yuya, was really endearing to me. I'm probably the only person on earth with this opinion but as dumb as the bracelet girls and yu boys fusing together was, I think the one good thing that came out of it was that Shun had to just accept that Yuto and Ruri were gone. I get why people found it unsatisfying, but I think the fact that he was able to move on showed a lot of strength that I have to admire him for.
1 Declan Akaba
Declan is my favourite because I relate to his family situation and I refuse to explain myself further.
....Okay fine. I'll admit, Declan isn't the most well implemented character in terms of Arc V's narrative. I think we can all agree his change in character was out of nowhere and Sawatari made for a better rival to Yuya. But dammit I don't care I like him anyways. I think his moral ambiguity is fascinating. He's fighting on the "right" side and has good intentions and goals but some of the things he does to accomplish that goal range from morally ambiguous to just straight up evil at times and I love that. It's one of the best examples of one of Arc V's core themes: "war corrupts both sides." And while his switch to being a better person is sudden, I can accept it to a degree because in my mind, he always wanted to do the right thing and genuinely cared deep down. It doesn't excuse his early actions but it does help me understand and identify with him.
Also, no, I wasn't joking or exaggerating about relating to Declan's family situation. Without giving away too much, I have an intimidating father who's not around much, a manipulative mother who's around but in all the wrong ways, and a younger sibling who I've had to watch be treated poorly by my mother for years. Declan's situation is more extreme but the similarities are... they're hard not to notice. Declan is number 1 on this list because of how much I relate to and look up to who he is by the end of the series. He'd probably still be on this list either way but he's at number 1 because of how much he personally means to me.
