Käytiin Pekan kanssa ajelemassa Virossa ja Latviassa. Reissu tuli melko nopealla aikataululla joten ei keretty suunnittelee mitää erikoista, kunhan lähettii ajelee. Ajeltii pieniä ja viel vähä pienempiä teitä pitkin. Täs koko neljän päivän reissu tiivistetty reiluun kuuteen minuuttiin.

i was more than thrilled when i got you as a giftee, since the first time we interacted was through this same event! i would've never guessed that we'd be here now, but we are.

your presence and friendship has been a calming candor when everything seemed dark, and seeing your asks and small interactions eased my heart a little.

Nandor sat up staring down at where the maid laid in the bare bones of his bed. He wasn't sure how it all spiraled into this. It was just harmless flirting. Something to help him get messages and food to his younger brothers. At least Gaspar was with the younger ones.

He sighed and laid down pulling her tightly to him. At least there was straw in these cots to warn them. He pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"Riika? Sweetheart you need to get up soon. The gaurd's won't wait too long."

He supposed there was something to be said about loyalty then.

They always told her to be careful, not to fall for his charm. When it had begun she had tried to dismiss the flirtation, she had tried to remain professional and maintain distance. How could she continue to say no? One thing led to another, and then she just couldn't help herself.

Riika let out a soft sound of discontent when felt him pull her tighter, her face buried into his chest as she wanted nothing more than to stay. It wasn't an option, he was right, the guards wouldn't wait.

"I wish we had longer," she reluctantly pulled back, looking at him in the darkness. "This isn't fair..."

World Challenge read for 🇫🇮 Finland

Review

So I went for a highly acclaimed literary novel for Finland. And, true to being a literary novel, as I found out several chapters in... it features an affair! So I laughed at this cliché come true.

But regardless, True is a very well-written (and well-translated) novel. Its exploration into the psyche of its characters is intriguing.

The setting of the book revolves around the expected death of the matriarch of the family, Elsa, who is terminally ill. The point of view shifts between family members, reflecting on relationships and regrets. It also shifts into the past to take the point of view of Eeva, the young nanny/mistress, as imagined by granddaughter Anna.

One of the talents of the book is to muddle memories - starting with something someone remembers and then slowly peeling away the truth to what it really was. This is also reflected in the way Anna conflates her own relationship and memories with Eeva's.

There's also lots of cozy scenes of Finland (I want to know what cardamom bread tastes like now).

Overall this was a beautiful character study that gently pries apart the hidden emotions of people without judgement.
