2/22/2020: Let’s Get Creative (?) 

I’m catching up on my posts! My Victorian lit professor assigned a creative project, so I made a book cover design for R.M. Ballantyne’s The Island Queen - for my first time using oil pastels, I’m pretty happy with it. I love that I’ve read a bunch of island stories and I imagine a different island for every one of them, so I had fun recreating the Rigonda island as I see it in my head. (Good to note that I am NOT an artist hehehe).

[Research] Scanning: A journey through Digital Media Arts

I looked back at the PowerPoint Ian used in this session. And looked up some concept I am not familiar with. I found there are quite a few technologies from 1900 to 1980s I have just heard of but have no clue what are they. I figured it might be easier to present the timeline after I acquire more about how those things work in general.

Magnetic storage or magnetic recording “ is the storage of data on a magnetised medium. Magnetic storage uses different patterns of magnetisation in a magnetisable material to store data and is a form of non-volatile memory. Analog vs digital: what’s the difference? 

“A floppy disk, also called a floppy, diskette, or just disk, is a type of disk storage composed of a disk of thin and flexible magnetic storage medium, sealed in a rectangular plastic enclosure lined with fabric that removes dust particles. Floppy disks are read and written by a floppy disk drive (FDD). ”

And I found some photos can be used in my work. Those are photo of devices widely used in each decade.

There are not all of them. I found they are not very coordinate to put together. So I draw them instead use the photo.
