Happy birthday Robert Carlyle, born in Maryhill, Glasgow April 14th 1961.
Bobby was brought up in Glasgow, the son of Elizabeth, a bus company employee, and Joseph Carlyle, a painter and decorator. His mother left when Carlyle was four years old and his dad looked after him from then. He left school at the age of 16 without any qualifications and worked for his father as a painter and decorator; however, he continued his education by attending night classes at Cardonald College in Glasgow.
Carlyle became involved in drama at the Glasgow Arts Centre at the age of 21 (having been inspired by reading Arthur Miller's The Crucible), and subsequently graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. In 1991, he and four friends founded a theatre company, Raindog (named after Tom Waits' album "Rain Dog," one of Carlyle's favorites) (a company dedicated to innovative work then, which is now primarily involved in television and film work), and guest starred in The Bill. The same year he starred in his first movie, Riff-Raff, directed by Ken Loach.
I first noticed Carlyle in the excellent ITV series Cracker, as murderer Albert "Albie" Kinsella, it wasn't long after this he had a series of his own with Hamish McBeth, the dope smoking village bobby in a quiet Scottish town on the west coast, the series ran for three seasons from 1995 to 1997.
Since then Robert Carlyle has been able to pick and choose his roles, his films include, The World is Not Enough, Plunkett & Macleane, Ravenous, 28 Weeks later and of course as Francis "Franco" Begbie in the two Trainspotting films.
On the small screen we have seen him in as the title role in Adolf : The Rise of Evil, Human Trafficking and The Last Enemy on this side of the Atlantic, in the US he has starred in the TV movie 24, SGU Stargate Universe and the continuing Once Upon a Time..
The third season of British political thriller-drama COBRA is due on our screens in the coming months
Recently we saw the TV series of the popular film, The Full Monty, which surprised me of how good it was. In February Carlyle commented on X/Titter about a Simpsons episode Ae Bonny Romance, which aired last December. In one scene, audiences are shown an airline called “Planespotting”, with the plane including a picture of Carlyle’s character Begbie on its tail! Robbert tweeted "My life is complete.." As well as the nod, the episode featured the voices of actors Karen Gillan, David Tennant and Paul Higgins.
Robbiewas lastsen in the movvie, The Performance about an American Jew and gifted tap dancer while on tour in Europe, Harold and the rest of his troupe are scouted by a German attaché who leads the troupe to an exclusive performance for Hitler himself. Next up is a mini-series Toxic Town about the tragic toxic waste case in the East Midlands and three mothers fighting for the justice for the rates of upper limb defects in babies born in Corby were subsequently found to be three times higher than those of children born.

US HEGEMONY and OUT RIGHT TERRORISM
The Chinese Embassy has published a list of states that were bombed by the United States of America after World War II:
Japan 6.08 and 9.08 1945

Cambodia (1969-1970)
Guatemala (1967-1969)

Somalia (2007-2008, 2011)
Yemen (2009, 2011)
Libya (2011, 2015)
Syria (2014-2015)
There are more than 20 states on the list. China urged "never forget who is the real threat to the world."
Were there outrages from the Western community regarding the United States? Were there loud accusatory cries? Were there sanctions against the United States at least once? This whole hypocritical world caudle sits quietly with its tongue in one place, when the USA nightmares countries like a real bandit. Not an exclamation, not a shadow of reproach, not a glimmer of indignation. Cowardly, shameless, hypocritical creatures! I would spit on everyone in his hypocritical mug and would poke his nose into this list.
This list should be broadcast continuously on all channels 24 hours a day. Make videos that would gouge all this Western riff-raff, remind every fact of the US crime against other countries.

top films of the year!!!
tagged by @standardlovers <3333 who actually has like Film Opinions that don't revolve around how silly/sexy the films were but anyway here's my films...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
np tags for @themuseoftheviolets @stillagoodwitch @quillkiller @fxreflyes @star4daisy <3333
i’m also gonna do some comments like teddy did bc i never know how to shut up ever so…
1. Point Break (1991), the film of all films, i think i rewatched it like three times this year, its my favourite film of all time, i never shut up about it, it literally has it all - surfing, bank robbery, skydiving, keanu reeves, patrick swayze, an excessive amount of deaths, rampant homoeroticism etc etc
2. Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), another rewatch, another banger, hugh grant is his typical bumbling englishman but this time it involved the mafia!! which i love, and manslaughter and the fbi and it’s a bit ridiculous which, of course, is a necessity
3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), i said it on my letterboxd and i’ll say it again - there is NOTHING like the love between a man and his razor blades, also helena bonham carter is SO sexy as always and there’s a lot of fun murder, my only note would be that they don’t sing the ballad of sweeney todd, which is clearly the best song from the musical, but otherwise very enjoyable
4. My Own Private Idaho (1991), what was in the water for keanu in 1991?? bc honestly this film is incredible, the campfire scene broke me into pieces, humpty dumpty style, and i’m still not back together again, also there are excellent insults in this eg. you starfish, you vile punk etc so i loved it a lot, and river phoenix is brilliant, are you kidding me??
5. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), another keanu but this one is Overtly silly rather than just being silly by association (all keanu films are silly bc he’s a lovably awful actor but this one takes the cake), literally party on dudes like be excellent to each other, what more do you want me to say??
6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), ohhh my god guys idk how i’d never watched this before but honestly just incredible, so so so SO good, my friends told me that i give riff-raff vibes which… i’ve chosen to take as a compliment bc after all… it’s astounding… time is fleeeting (picture me bursting into a choreographed musical number)
7. Dangerous Liaisons (1988), a banger, i watched cruel intentions like years ago but this is dare i say it… better??? there’s just something about a period drama that elevates everything, keanu was very sweet, i loved when he was all covered in blood and bedraggled, and just in general i love when women are evil and malicious
8. A Knight’s Tale (2001), this film was an experience… i do think it should’ve just been about the bros going on an adventure and doing a spot of jousting instead of having that romance plot which was kinda eh, but the soundtrack fucks and there were generally excellent vibes and heath ledger was fantastic
anyway that’s that i guess!!!
honourable mention for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) bc god that film goes so hard, and also But I’m a Cheerleader (1999) bc like come on now, need i say more??

PETER MULLAN IS RED JACOB MACKENZIE
Peter Mullan is a Scottish actor and filmmaker, he was born in Peterhead, a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 UK. He was interested in directing films at the age of 19 and he made several shorts. He decided to dedicate himself to acting and made his debut in the theatre in 1988 before moving to cinema and television.
His feature film work over the last several decades stretches across every genre, including roles in Riff-Raff (1991), Braveheart (1995), Trainspotting (1996), Miss Julie (1999), Young Adam (2003), Children of Men (2006), The Red Riding Trilogy (2009), War Horse (2011) The Vanishing, the Harry Potter film series (2010–11) and The Vanishing (2018).
Tumblr media
Although his part in Braveheart was a small recurring role as one of the Scottish army foot soldiers, Mullan was to go on to enjoy a breakthrough shortly after Gibson’s classic film hit cinemas.
He followed Braveheart with his part as the drug dealer Mother Superior in Trainspotting, then found himself being fêted by Martin Scorsese when he won the best actor award at Cannes for Ken Loach’s film, ‘My Name Is Joe’ (1998), filmed in Argyll and Glasgow.
Tumblr media
Trainspotting 1996 ‧ Crime/Thriller
Mullan has a vast body of work but is probably best known for his portrayal of Joe in the 1988 Ken Loach film ‘My Name is Joe’. For this work, he won the highly prized Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival.

A few years later, in 2011, the Sundance Film Festival awarded Mullan a World Dramatic Special Jury Prize for Breakout Performances for his role as Joseph in Paddy Considine’s Thriller/Drama ‧ ‘Tyrannosaur’ (2011) with Olivia Colman.
Tumblr media
Since then, Mullan has gone on to work with directors like Steven Spielberg (War Horse 2011 ‧ War/Adventure ) alongside Jeremy Irvine and with Alfonso Cuarón popped up as a totalitarian crank in Alfonso Cuarón’s Children of Men, goading the dispossessed into parading their “refugee face”. On Mullan suggestion, Cuarón swapped his character’s weapon of choice for something less obvious, but more threatening, and has become one of the most respected modern film and TV actors.
Tumblr media
War Horse 2011 ‧ War/Adventure ‧ Film of the Year 2012
He has also made his name as a director, with acclaimed movies such as Neds, Orphans and The Magdalene Sisters.
Tumblr media
His other film credits include ‘Hercules’ 2014 ‧ Action/Fantasy alongside Dwayne Johnson as General Sitalces, Commander of the Thracian army. Lord Cotys's second-in-command right-hand man portrayed by the late John Hurt.
Sunset Song, 2015 ‧ Romance/Drama Terence Davies’s adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbons’s novel, stars Agyness Deyn as Chris, a Scottish farm worker who sees family trauma merge into global catastrophe as the First World War devastates her village.
youtube
Starring Peter Mullan, as Chris’s abusive dad. was filmed at various locations across Scotland in Aberdeenshire, including Fettercairn and the Glenmuick, Glen Tanar, Invercauld and Ballogie estates. Sunset Song is certainly a masterpiece of Scottish/ British literature and was voted Scotland's favourite book.
Scots Quair is actually three books, Sunset Song, Cloud Howe and Grey Granite, that tell the story of Chris Guthrie, a young woman in the North East of Scotland, moving from the hard, rural life of her adolescence to adulthood and marriage. A Scots Quair is one of the most important works of Scottish literature.
Tommy's Honour 2016 ‧ Sport/Romance is based on the powerfully moving true story (and novel of the same name by Kevin Cook) of the challenging relationship between “Old” Tom and “Young” Tommy Morris, the dynamic father-son team who ushered in the modern game of golf.
Tumblr media
Tommy's Honour 2016
Peter Mullan stared as Tom with Jack Lowden playing his son. The film was filmed in the Edinburgh city region including Peebles and Musselburgh golf course.
youtube
He also played Yaxley in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, parts 1 and 2. In TV, he’s played characters in ‘Westworld’, ‘Top Of The Lake’ and Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ as Jacob Snell. [Netflix]
In 2020 He was great in #Ozark portraying local crime lord Jacob Snell, The crime boss of Osage Beach until he died in season two of the Netflix hit.
Tumblr media
Ozark 2017 ‧ Drama ‧ 4 seasons
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (TV Series 2022– ) - Peter Mullan played Durin III king of the dwarves and builder of the great halls of Moria.
Tumblr media
Moria is introduced in Tolkien's novel The Hobbit and is a major scene of action in The Lord of the Rings. In the fictional world of J. R. R. Tolkien, Moria, also named Khazad-dûm, is an ancient subterranean complex in Middle-earth.
On the big and small screen, from sci-fi to action and comedy, there are plenty of Scots actors who have made a huge impact on the world of acting. Just take a look at the right place where you will find them in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

[Image descriptions in order: a tumblr post by lily-orchard-stuff which says "The reason we don't get more rep like Rocky Horror is because nobody wants it. The film flopped rather famously and its status as a cult classic among a subset of gay people and straight women who are culturally trapped in the 1970's has never changed."]
[Several screenshots of the wikipedia article for The Rocky Horror Show, which say:
...Sharman. The original London production of the musical was premièred at the Royal Court Theatre (Upstairs) on 19 June 1973 (after two previews on 16 and 18 June 1973). It later moved to several other locations in London and closed on 13 September 1980. The show ran for a total of 2,960 performances and won the 1973 Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Musical. Songs in the musical include "Time Warp" (co-written by O'Brien and Richard Hartley), while the costumes were designed by Sue Blane. Its 1974 debut in the US in Los Angeles had a successful nine-month run, but its 1975 Broadway debut at the Belasco Theatre lasted only three previews and forty-five showings, despite earning one Tony nomination and three Drama Desk nominations. Various international productions have since spanned across six continents as well as West End and Broadway revivals and eight UK tours. In 1991 it was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival. Actor Tim Curry, who...]

[Beyond its cult status, The Rocky Horror Show is also widely said to have been an influence on countercultural and sexual liberation movements that followed on from the 1960s. It was one of the first popular musicals to depict fluid sexuality during a time of division between generations and a lack of sexual difference acceptance. Like the film adaptation, the musical is noted for a long- running tradition of audience participation through call-back lines and attending dressed up as characters from the show. On the 50th anniversary of the musical in 2023, BBC News states that since debuting in London in 1973 the "production has been performed in 20 different languages" and been "seen by 30 million people globally".]
