THE GIRL WITH THE RED LOCS

I started my loc journey April 2011. I had been natural for 2.5 years and I was tired of going through the motions. Wearing sew-ins and the new found stocking cap method. I spent a lot of money like most women, and it was time for me to stop. I started to embrace my natural hair and resent it at the same time. It was hard to manage. I would get my grandma to press my hair out the old school way, a hot comb on the stove and grease. My grandma was a champ at a press, but that Louisiana humidity would not let me be great. I was frustrated and asked my cousin to do my parts and I was gonna twist my own hair. I chose the bantu method to start my locs. 99 locs in my journey began.

I graduated from college and started looking for jobs in my field. No matter how qualified I was, nobody wanted to hired a girl with red locs to work in their office as a medical office administrator. I fought and it was a tough battle, but I gave into the pressure of society. I had my red locs bleached to strip the color and it was the worst decision ever you hear me! My hair was badly damaged. How could this happen to my babies! For a year straight I did protein and hot oil treatments. I shook my hair back the best I could. Finally in 2015, I chopped 7 inches of my locs off. I cried like a baby! I went back red and vowed never to color my hair for the satisfaction of no one! 

Fast forward 8 years later. I now have 20 red thick healthy locs and free formed. I've had every style I could imagined .My regiment is simple. I make sure my locs stay moisturized and I drink a lot of water. This journey helped me find ME!  I am a example of TRUE RAW BEAUTY! Not what society wants us to confirm to. I am a muse for little girls. My locs have allowed me to evolved into this beautiful woman. When we see ourselves without superficial light, its amazing.
