Chapter 1: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Tumblr media
It was quiet in the Hawthorne household, as it usually is. With Garrett Hawthorne out on duty as the town sheriff and with Lillian Hawthorne working in the town council there was only one person who spent enough time in the house to make it look like a family resides there. Rosie Hawthorne has just woken up and was preparing herself to for her last day of school.
Rosie walked towards the stereo sitting on her desk and turned it on. She raised the volume as her favorite song started playing, Girls just wanna have fun.
Rosie danced her way through getting ready and eating her breakfast that her mother had left for her. Right as she was about to go back to her room, a knock sounded throughout her house.
Rosie would not have heard it if it were not for the police siren that sounded just after. She stared at the door for a couple of seconds, pondering why the police would be here.
Another round of knocks sounded followed by loud banging on the door. This was followed by someone calling out her name.
“Rosie!” The person on the other side of the door yelled. Rosie moved close to the door. With the music blaring throughout her house, Rosie was having a bit of trouble recognizing the voice. “Open up, kiddo!”
Rosie’s eyes widened as the voice of her father registered in her brain. She rushed towards the door and quickly unlocked it. Swinging it open, Rosie came face to face with her father, dressed in his uniform.
“Hello sheriff, how can I be of assistance to you?” Rosie asked as she crossed her arms and leaned against the door post with the music still blaring loudly behind her.
“Rosie.” Garrett Hawthorne said in a pointed tone.
“Yes, daddy.” Rosie straightened up quickly.
Sheriff Hawthorne side stepped his only child and took the stairs towards Rosie’s bedroom. Rosie did not bother following her father. Instead, she walked back towards the kitchen and placed all the dishes in the sink. Seconds later, silence fell upon the house and heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs.
Soon, her father appeared in front of Rosie, just as she was about to pull her backpack on her shoulder. Sheriff Hawthorne stood in front of Rosie with his hands on his hips. He cocked an eyebrow at Rosie who let out a sigh of annoyance.
“What are you doing back? Don’t you have cases to solve?” Rosie questioned as she looked around the living room for her headphones.
“You know what I am doing here. You know you have to keep your music down. We got another noise complain.” Sheriff Hawthorne sat down on the couch and sat his hat down next to him. “From my own house.”
Spotting her headphones, Rosie stuffed them in her backpack.
“Rosie,” Garrett sighed as he patted the spot next to him on the couch.
Rosie sat down next to him, leaned back, and crossed her arms.
“I know what you are going to say, so spare me the lecture.”
“Kiddo, you know you can’t have the music at that loud volume. We have neighbors. They complain. A lot. About you.” Garrett put his arm around Rosie’s shoulder and pulled her close to him.
“I know, I know. But I needed that to be able to get through school.”
“It’s the last day of school.”
“Exactly. I’m going to need all the help I can get to get through the day without bashing someone’s head in.”
Garrett Hawthorne let out a chuckle before he stood up, picked up his hat and walked towards the door. He motioned towards the door and Rosie followed him.
“I’ll drive you to school.” Sheriff Garrett motioned towards his cop car.
“No. No, no, no. I will take my bike.” Rosie shook her head.
Who would want their parents to drop them off to school, thought Rosie.
“Fine,” Garrett chuckled. “But be careful.”
“I know, I know.” Rosie nodded her head. “I am the sheriff’s daughter. I know how to handle myself.”
Sheriff Garrett started his car as his daughter, Rosie straightened her bike that had been previously thrown on her front lawn. The father and daughter pulled up their respective vehicles side by side, glanced at each other before Sheriff Garrett nodded his head at Rosie went left. AT the same time, Rosie turned her bike to the right.
Rosie Hawthorne peddled slowly, not wanting to reach her school just yet. She did not have many friends. The girl liked to stick to her books mostly. That does not mean she did not have any acquaintances or friends, she had many. But Rosie liked her books better than people.
As she was peddling, her ears picked up the loud voice of the one person who annoyed her the most, Richie Trashmouth Tozier. The one person in the world who can get Rosie so worked up that she once wanted to smack him in the face with one of her beloved books.
Rosie slowed down so he would not see her and try to start a conversation with her, which usually became one-sided quickly. She watched as the four friends merged into the road Rosie was on. Rosie completely stopped as she watched the four friends cycle their way to their school.
When Rosie was sure they were far enough, she started cycling again except this time it was a bit faster. Just because it was the last day of school did not mean she was going to be late. Rosie hated being late, to anything.
As Rosie reached her school, she was already starting to regret waking up this morning. Many students were hanging around the outside of the school building.
Rosie dreaded to know how many would be jammed inside. Just as she was about to enter the building after locking her bike in place, a voice called out to her.
“Hey hotstuff!” Came the voice of Richie Tozier. “Looking good.” Richie pulled his glasses down his nose and looked the girl up and down as he has seen actors do in movies. Though, Richie could not even see the girls blurred figure.
“What do you want, Tozier?” Rosie sighed as she questioned the boy. She did not have the energy to waste even entertaining the talkative boy.
“Just wanted to see how you were doing?” Richie walked closer to the brown haired girl and swung his arm around her shoulder. Though that proved to be a bit of an inconvenience because the girl was two inches taller than him.
“No.” Rosie said as she shrugged off his arm and speed walked to the school entrance.
Richie stood in his place, watching the brown haired girl walk away. His lips slowly turned upwards as her stared after her. His eyes moved a little downwards and stayed there until Stan smacked his arm and pulled Richie out of his trance.
“What? I can’t fucking stare at a smoking hot girls’ ass?” Richie questioned as the four friends walked inside the school, ready for the day to end and for summer to start.

Chapter 3: Stealing is not good for my health
Tumblr media
It was noon, and Rosie Hawthorne was laying in bed, still in her pajamas. After yesterday, Rosie has jumped at any and every sound. She did not leave her room yesterday and only came out for dinner. Rosie spent her time reading and sketching.
Right now, she was reading Little Women. She was so engrossed in the novel that she did not hear the door slowly open until she heard her door creak. Her head snapped up, eyes wide. Rosie let out a sigh of relief when she saw her father standing in the doorway.
Garrett Hawthorne was dressed in his uniform. He had been at the police station when he received a call from his wife, Lillian. Lillian Hawthorne had informed him that Rosie had not come out of her room to even eat breakfast. The mother was worried and had to get to work. So, she asked Garrett to come talk to their daughter.
“Hey, kiddo.” Garrett smiled gently. “Shouldn’t you be our, playing with other kids?” He sat down on the edge of Rosie’s bed.
“Dad, I’m thirteen, not seven. I don’t need to be out, playing with other kids as you put it.” Rosie closed her book, not before placing a bookmark to not lose her place. “What are you doing back?”
“Your mother called,” Garrett started but was cut off when Rosie scoffed.
“Oh, did she now?” Rosie crossed arms over her chest.
“Rosie, she’s worried about you.” Garrett said softly, trying not to provoke the tiger.
“Is that why she sent you, instead of coming here herself?”
“Kiddo, please.” Garrett sighed before continuing. “Let’s not have this conversation right now. We can talk about this later.”
“I don’t want to talk about this.” Rosie stood up from her place on her bed and got some clothes out of her closet. “I’m going out, to ‘play with children’.”
“Not before you eat something.” Garrett stood up from his spot and took his leave. Before Rosie could protest, he continued. “I’ll warm up the food.”
🎈
Rosie was standing in front of the pharmacy, dreading going inside. She hated how creepy Mr, Keene was, preying on young girls. Her mother had asked her to buy some things from the pharmacy and even though she did not want to, she still left her front porch.
Rosie was going over the list of things she needed when she came across Beverly. Beverly Marsh was standing, trying to decide between the various products in front of her. Rosie walked closer to Beverly and pointed at a certain box.
“I’ve seen my mom use these ones.” Rosie pointed at the box and saw Beverly jump in panic. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
“No, thank you.” Beverly smiled at Rosie.
Rosie nodded at Beverly before she walked towards another aisle. There, she spotted Eddie Kaspbrak, Bill Denbrough, and Stanley Uris with Eddie grabbing at whatever he could get his hands on.
“Uh who died?” Rosie questioned. Eddie stopped in his tracks and stared at Rosie.
The two boys whispered things to Eddie who stayed quiet and still. Beverly came up behind Rosie and immediately hid a box behind her back at the sight of the three boys.
“Y-you okay?” Bill asked Beverly.
“I’m fine. What wrong with you?” Beverly questioned.
“None of your business.” Stanley jumped in before anyone could reveal anything. But Eddie started talking the second Stanley answered.
“There is a kid outside who looks like someone killed him.” Eddie said quickly while still holding the many things in his hands. He kept his gaze on Rosie. He trusted her. He had since she had defended him from Henry Bowers from bullying him that one time in 5th grade.
“W-we need some s-s-supplies, but we don’t have enough money.” Bill continued.
“Okay,” Rosie slowly said as she took in all the information the two boys gave her.
Beverly stared at the three boys intently as a plan formed in her head. She looked at Rosie and nodded her head where Mr. Keene most likely stood.
“I have a plan.” Beverly said as she walked forward.
Not five minutes later, the three boys and Rosie were running out of the pharmacy, trying not to bump into anything, but Eddie did not get the memo.
The four 13 year olds ran out of the pharmacy and towards the alleyway where she saw Richie standing with who Rosie recognized as the new kid. The second Richie saw Rosie, his hand went up in a wave and he called out to her.
“Hey hotstuff! Did you miss me already?”
“Oh yes. I totally did. Couldn’t get you out of my mind all night.” Rosie answered him as she stood next to him and watched Eddie get down to work.
“Really?” Richies eyes widened and a huge smile came upon his face.
“No.” Rosie answer him before she turned to the new kid. “Well that doesn’t look so bad ….” She started before she was cut off by Richie.
“Really? Because he looks like he’s about to die.”
“Richie. Shut up!” Rosie said to Richie before she turned back to the injured kid. “Don’t listen to him, new kid, Dr. Kaspbrak here will have you fixed up in no time.” Rosie gave him a sweet smile and bens cheeks burned bright red.
“Thank you. I’m Ben.” The new kids introduced himself to Rosie.
“Nice to meet you Ben. I’m Rosie.”
“I-I know. I mean, I’ve seen you around the school before.” Bend said before Richie put his arm around Rosie’s waist and pulled her into his side.
“Hey! Hey! You do not eye fuck her. Only I can do that.” Richie said as he pointed his finger at Ben with his free hand.
“How about no.” Rosie said as she removed his arm.
Richie moved a bit behind her, looked down, smirked, and then moved next to Rosie. The smirk did not leave his face until he started annoying Eddie.
“Suck the wound.” Richie said as he moved closer to Rosie, who did not pay him any attention and kept her focus on what was happening in front of her.
“I need to focus right now.” Eddie said as he put the bandage on Ben’s cut.
“You need to focus.”
“Yeah, can you go get me something.” Eddie
“Jesus. Um, what do you need?” Richie asked.
“Just get my bifocals.” Eddie replied. “I hit it in my second fanny pack.”
“Why do you have two fanny packs?” Stan questioned.
No one noticed as Bill left the group and moved outside the alleyway.
“I need to focus right now and it’s a long story.” Eddie answered.
“I’d like to hear that story. It sounds . . . . like it’d be an interesting one.” Rosie said as she watched Eddie take off the temporary bandage, they had put on Bens cut.
“Oh my god. Oh my god. He’s bleeding.” Stan said as panic was crawling up his skin. He moved away from the injured kid and his young doctor.
“Eddie, do something.” Rosie said as she moved away from the two, as to not get any blood on herself. She noticed Richie standing close to the two and pulled him back by his elbow.
“You don’t want to know who fucking did this?” Richie questioned Rosie, noticing she has not asked them much about what had happened.
“Oh, I have an idea.” Rosie answered before focusing back on Eddie and Ben.
“You have to suck the wound before you apply the bandage. This is 101.” Richie said as he pushed up his sliding glasses.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Eddie said as he finished putting on the bandage on Ben.
“Are you okay? That looks like it hurts.” Beverly said as she walked up to the group with Bill behind her.
“Oh, no I’m good.” Bill said as he pulled himself up. “I just fell.”
“Yeah! Right into Henry Bowers.” Richie said before Bill told him to shut up.
“Why? It’s the truth.” Richie said in retaliation.
“You sure they got the,” Beverly started as a smirk came on her face, “right stuff, to fix you up?”
Ben smiles at what Beverly had said. Rosie looked back and forth between Beverly and Ben before she smiled. They will look cute together, Rosie thought.
“You know, uh, w-w-we w-will take care of him.” Bill said. “Thanks again, Beverly.”
“Sure,” Beverly said, “maybe I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, w-we were thinking about going to the q-q-q-quarry tomorrow.” Bill started saying to Beverly. “If — if you wanna go.”
“Will Rosie be there?” Beverly questioned as she looked towards Rosie.
“Definitely!” Richie said as he threw his arm around Rosie’s shoulder.
“I don’t want this second-hand invite.” Rosie moved away from Richie. “I’d like a proper invitation, with flowers and chocolate. And make sure the invite is engraved.” Rosie says as she claps her hands together.
“I’ll get it all for you, hotstuff.” Richie says as he moves closer to Rosie. “Should I get you roses?”
Rosie have Richie a look as she tried not to smile at him. Everyone looked at the two and let out a laugh except for Eddie who glared at Richie. He did not want to lose the one friend he had made outside of the loser’s club.
Richie and his loud trashmouth will run her out of this town, Eddie thought.
Beverly turns around and walks towards the open road before Rosie called out to her.
“Hey! Red! Wait for me!” Rosie shouts and Beverly stops in her tracks. “I’ll see you guys later.” Rosie waves at the five boys and runs after Beverly.
The two girls loop their arms together and turn to the main road. The brunette and the ginger walk towards Beverly’s house, chatting about nothing important. They reach Beverly’s house and the two say goodbye, but not before promising to call each other later.
Rosie walked home with a smile on her face. She was happy she had made friends with Beverly Marsh and the five boys. Rosie was almost home until she realized she had forgot to buy the supplies her mother had asked her to.
At the thought, Rosie did a U-turn and ran all the way to the pharmacy, where she found the boys, still at their spots, performing surgery on Ben.

Chapter 2: Mommy? More Like Mummy
Tumblr media
Rosie stared at the blackboard in boredom. She was absolutely done with school and could not wait to leave. Rosie’s mind ventured towards her future, how it will be. She wanted to leave this place behind and be someone she could be proud of. And who would make her parents proud.
As Rosie was imagining her future, she felt a something hit the back of her head. She turned her head and saw Richie Tozier smiling widely at her. He threw another paper ball at Rosie which hit her right on her forehead. She scrunched her nose before picking up the paper ball and throwing it back at Richie. It hit him right on his nose.
This went on for the next half hour, the teacher kept droning on and on, not paying the kids one bit of attention. Richie and Rosie kept going back and forth, trying to hit each other with the paper balls. They missed each other many times, the paper ball hitting others and receiving annoyed looks.
The shrill sound of the bell rang around the school and filled the school hallways with kids, ready to leave behind the stressful school days and start a relaxing and carefree summer.
Rosie quickly packed her bags and jogged to her locker. She did not want to waste anymore time in this building, with these people. Behind her, she heard the loudmouth of Richie talking away with his friends about Stanley’s upcoming bar mitzvah. Their voices trailed off as they walked away.
Rosie emptied her locker and turned around to leave the building when someone harshly bumped into her.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going, slut.” Came the voice of Greta Keene.
Rosie showed the blonde girl her middle finger as Greta entered the bathroom with another girl. She heard a thump and not too long before Greta walked out. Rosie pretty quickly caught onto what must have happened in the bathroom.
Greta was about to bump her shoulder into Rosie again when Rosie moved away at the last minute and put her foot in front of Greta. Greta’s foot tangled into Rosie’s and she fell forward.
“What the fuck!” Greta yelled.
“Watch where you’re going, slut.” Rosie said as she took her leave towards the bathroom.
Entering the bathroom, she heard Greta shouting profanities at her. Rosie shut the door behind her, and Greta’s voice faded away into nothingness. Rosie stared at the red haired girl who has been the target of Greta’s bullying since she could remember.
Beverly Marsh.
Rosie scrunched her nose as the smell hit her. It smelled absolutely disgusting in the bathroom and Rosie knew it was because of Greta Keene. She saw the trash bag laying on the ground in one of the stalls.
“Hey, are you okay?” Rosie questioned. She saw Beverly washing her backpack, trying to salvage what was left of it.
“Yes,” Beverly said sharply. “What’s it to you?” Beverly kept her eyes focused on the mirror in front of her, but she kept the brown haired girl in her peripheral vision.
“Because I just saw Greta Keene leave this bathroom. She looked proud of something, so I knew someone must be suffering here.” Rosie shrugged as she stood next to Beverly and pulled out a lip gloss from her backpack.
The two girls stood side by side, not saying anything. The silence was not uncomfortable, though the smell did bother Rosie.
“I’m okay.” Beverly mumbled breaking the silence.
“Good to know.” Rosie nodded her head at Beverly. She looked at herself in the mirror one last time before she turned towards the bathroom door. “See you later, Beverly.”
Rosie did not wait to hear Beverly’s reply. She walked out of the bathroom and into the almost empty hallway. Rosie did not see Greta or her squad of lagoons.
Rosie walked out of the school using the west entrance and immediately regretted it. In front of her she could see Henry Bowers and his gang messing with Richie Tozier and his friends. Other than Richie, Rosie had only talked to Eddie Kaspbrak.
Eddie Kaspbrak was the only person other than Richie Tozier who could talk a mile a second.
Rosie walked down the stairs and watched as Richie was pulled backwards by his backpack who then bumped into Stan and the two went down to the ground. As Rosie walked closer to the group, she heard Bill sign his fate to the devil.
“You s-s-s-suck Bowers.” Bill stuttered out his words.
Bowers and his gang stopped in their tracks and turned around.
“You s-s-s-s-say something, B-b-billy?” Henry mocked Bill. “You got a free ride this summer, because of your brother. Rides over Denbrough.” Henry said as he walked closer to Bill.
Rosie pushed past Patrick Hockstetter and Belch Huggins and pinched Bowers on his back.
“Ouch! Bitch.” Bowers shouted in pain and stared at Rosie in anger.
Rosie walked backwards towards her father who was standing with Betty Ripsom’s mom and officer Bowers.
“Why don’t you pick on people your own size, huh, Bowers.” Rosie said before she turned around and walked towards her father who was staring at the group.
Rosie did not bother turning around to hear any kind of response.
Richie stared after Rosie as Bowers finished threatening his friends, but not before giving Bill a big spit filled kiss with his hand. Richie did not look away from Rosie, who stood with her father, the sheriff, talking to him about something he could not hear from the distance.
“She’s so hot.” Richie said in a breathless voice.
Rosie felt eyes burning in her back as she finished explaining to her father why she can bike herself back to their house and that she does not need to be escorted. Sheriff Garrett turned around to say something to his deputy. Rosie turned around and saw Richie staring at her with wide eyes. She waved at him and Richie’s mouth dropped open. The wave turned into Rosie’s middle finger waving at him. Rosie frowned as Richie’s smile turned wide and he waved back at her, with his middle finger.
Rosie rolled her eyes and turned back to her father. She said her goodbyes and got on her bike. She started peddling towards her house.
Rosie was halfway towards her house when she turned on Neibolt street. She did not like this street, at all, but it was a shortcut to her house. The house at the end of the street always creeped her out. As Rosie peddled forward, picking up speed, she heard a noise before she went tumbling down.
“Ahhh.” Rosie yelled as she scrapped her knees and hands. She got up on her knees and dusted off her hands and knees and checked the damage that was done.
Rosie looked around and saw she was right in front of the run down house. From where she was kneeling, Rosie could see the door was open. As Rosie kept staring at the front door, she saw a silhouette pass through inside the house.
A chill went down Rosie’s spine and her eyes widened. She got on her feet when her eyes caught a red balloon floating by. No matter how much Rosie tried, she could not look away. Her eyes followed the balloon until a pointed branch of a tree popped it.
Rosie stood still for the next couple of seconds, listening intently, for any indication that someone was here. When she heard and saw nothing, Rosie took one step towards her strewn bike, but saw something that stopped her in her tracks.
It was her mother, Lillian Hawthorne.
Lillian looked the same as she did this morning. She was wearing the same clothes, her hair was styled in the same way, and she had the same look in her eyes she did everything she went to work.
Except she was pale. So pale that Rosie thought all the blood had left her mothers body. And there was blood on her clothes. So much blood everywhere. Lillian was holding a red balloon, which said I <3 Derry.
Rosie’s mother was standing still, not moving an inch. Her dark eyes staring at her daughter with such hate Rosie thought she would burst into flames right then and there. Rosie kept staring at her mother, confused.
“Mom?” Rosie whispered. “W-what – what are y—”
“Rosie,” Lillian said but her voice was different. “My sweet, sweet Rosie. I have done so much for you. I sacrificed so much for you. But you – you did not care. You took everything and threw it away.”
“What? Mom, what are you talking about?” Rosie took a couple steps towards her mother. Her eyes wide and her stretched out towards her mother.
“You are a disappointment, Rosaline. A disappointment. I am ashamed of you.”
“What? No! I-I did everything you said. I have, I have been the perfect daughter.” Rosie said as tears welled up in her eyes. “Why would you say that, mom? Why?”
“Because I never wanted you. I wanted a son. Who would make me proud. Instead, I got a daughter who has done nothing but bring shame to me.”
“No, mom, no. I--,” Rosie choked up as she tried to reason with her mother. She was good, Rosie wanted to tell her mother. She may not be perfect, but she tried. But the words would not come out.
“But you can make me proud, Rosie. Yes, you can.” Lillian nodded her head very slowly. “You just need to follow what I say, and you will make me proud.”
“What?” Rosie whispered.
“You need to float.” Lillian smiled. It was not the smile Rosie had seen her mother give her, no. It was a smile of a cruel person. “I floated. Your father did too. And now, its your turn, Rosie. You need to float so we can be together, forever.”
Lillian’s eyes turned red before blood came out. Slowly, blood started coming from everywhere, her nose, ears, eyes, mouth. It was coming out from everything.
Rosie started sobbing hysterically as she watched her mother bleed out. She screamed as her mother burst into little droplets of blood. Rosie put her arms in front of her to protect herself. She shut her eyes tightly and whispered to herself:
“This is not real. No. No, no, no. This can’t be real.”
Rosie stayed silent, not moving one bone in her body. Until eventually, she opened her eyes and put her hands down. Her mother was not where she was standing seconds before. No one and nothing were there.
As Rosie turned towards her bike, her eyes found someone standing not far from her. The person was wearing a very dirtied white outfit with red in places. The person was holding a red balloon in front of their face.
Rosie took a shaky breath as the person giggled and removed the balloon from their face. She could not believe what she was looking at. Normally, a clown would not be able to scare Rosie, no. But this clown, this clown was the most terrifying one she had ever seen.
“Hiya, Rosie.” The clown smiled, revealing its sharp teeth. Rosie sucked in a breath as a cold chill ran through her body. “Would you like a balloon? I bet you would. Come float with us. Wouldn’t you like to float with us?” The clown revealed its razor sharp teeth and Rosie let out an ear-piercing scream.
Rosie scrambled backwards and tried to put as much distance between herself and the demonic clown as the clown charged towards. She let out another scream and placed her hands over her eyes. When nothing happened for the next couple of seconds, she opened her eyes and found that nothing and no one was there.
Rosie immediately stood up and grabbed her bike. As she was peddling back to her house, Rosie wondered what that thing was. But the only thing she wanted to do was forget about it, except her mind would not let her.
Rosie knew that moment, this will not be a normal summer.
