Visual Thinking | Research | How to make ballet ‘cool’?

Various photographers and artists have created alternative pieces to show how dynamic and cool ballet can be.

Ben Von Wong - using long shutter speeds to capture flowing movement.

This is some recycled plastic bags that have been moulded into the shape of a ballet dancer. It’s such a different idea to anything I’ve seen before as it doesn’t strictly include any human being, yet it still has the form and beauty of a dancer.

This photo is proving that you can do ballet anywhere and it is something that the every day person does. I know the brief is about getting people to go and see the ballet, but this idea shows that it is cool and modern.

Alexander Yakolvev - Photographer who has done various shoots to do with ballet. I will investigate his flour shoots eventually, but this shows once again that anyone can do it, even wearing your normal clothes.

Richard Calmes - Why does ballet have to be done in a theatre or a dance studio? Why not take it to the beach.

Justin Peck - A really beautiful video of modern day ballet, complete with modern music too, in an irregular 7/8 time signature (rather than the usual 4/4 or 3/4). The music can be cool too if they want it to be.
