Translate and transform

Another problem i ran into was the time it was taking to translate my pre-wrote messages/letters into the abbreviated code. I wasn’t a massive fan of the font i was using but couldn’t find anything at his point i really really liked and so for the time being i was sticking to the typos face ‘Katharine’ found on adobe fonts which is a vintage/ coding style typeface

I decided to try and make a font that pre translates my writing and that way i could have a custom font that translates as i typed as well as having a more personally style to my designs as it was in my hand writing, heres and example of my template when completed:

I also created a neater version of my handwritten typeface but in regular alphabet to use for any writing on the piece that wouldn’t be coded for exmaple who it was to and the ‘love me’ bit and the title.

After i was set on having it in my handwritten font and being pre-translated as i typed i started ,moving things around to see how i could better fit the pages and different layouts I could do with my final ideas, did i want the images on the same page as the writing or was that going to create very overcrowded spreads, did i want the overlapping writing on the images or not where did i want the text positioned on the page if the image was separate and what would I put with the image if anything at all.

I eventually came to a decision. (Next post is final spread outcomes)

~ PRE-MAjoR PRojECT SEMiNAR ~

During the small group Seminar with Joel and Paul last week; many people showed work which would enable them to bring ideas into our new projects and to update everyone else. This was mainly done through instagram - I had yet to create a separate L6 blog - so just showed my illustration account. 

After explaining my wishes to continue with the personification of inanimate objects (as I had done with my beans within the animation project) Joel pointed out an ink illustration of mushrooms that I had produced over summer. A great starting point due to each mushroom being different and all having varying facial expressions. 

Discussing more within this session, it became clear that I would need to make the characters more dynamic in order to enable a story/narrative to form. Mushrooms 'travel’ through the movement of spores (which would be a fab way for them to lose their static-ness) This also reminded me of something that happened over Summer with my Monstera Deliciosa, as due to the soil and the humidity that we’d had, mushrooms had popped up in the pot (almost from no-where!) It would be interesting to figure out the mushrooms’ interactions with humans and within the area they are found. Mushroom Foraging, for example, being picked in woodlands / being picked by a human and carried around. 

Another idea that was mentioned was how we associate red mushrooms with danger due to them being poisonous! Could the red poisonous ones be the ‘baddies’? Bright red and evil? What would other mushrooms be like? Different types of mushrooms would have different personalities? What about psychedelic mushrooms? How would mushrooms interact?

In the UK, up to 2 people in 100 have panic disorder. It's thought around a third will go on to develop agoraphobia.

Agoraphobia is twice as common in women as men. It usually starts between the ages of 18 and 35.

For my illustration project, I not only wanted to create something that could be contextualised in the real world AND online to raise awareness, but also explore the process of animation through Photoshop to capture the feeling of when I am having a panic episode so that others may empathise or at least be able to grasp the feeling of being incredibly trapped.

I have settled on the idea of a space theme for this current project. I created this character, based on my approaches to drawing humans. I wanted her to still look slightly human to have more of an empathy factor. I particularly like the use of three eyes so that she does appear different to the norm. I also jokingly drew characters (mushoroom and bean) from previous projects - which I think would be fun if they had a cameo within my animation. It also sparked my idea for the aliens to each have a sidekick each. These could be relative to their personalities or their home planets. Joel enjoyed the idea of the use bubbles so I would like to incorporate them and the sidekicks would be a good use for this. The bubbles would also compliment and mirror the circular qualities of the planets and space.

new idea with design started

When i first started designing my pages i decided instead of having some form of typeface to make each spread more personal i wanted to have images of the people i was talking too or writing these little notes too. So that’s what i done, first i took the chosen images into photoshop and gave them each different colour overlays i related them with and then gave them a textured grain to make the images have a style to them.

After editing the images i placed them on the pages and was thinking of having small bits of writing overlapping the images something else i wanted to say to them or quotes(this changes later on) and then underneath the images i wanted the words “letters to the Ines i love.’ Under each image to relate back to the name of this project.

Too add more personal touches i tried out creating simple line illustrations of the things that remind me of the person im talking about but this didn’t fit with he aesthetic i wanted to achieve and ended up taking these out, as i feel it looked tacky and slightly childish.

This book has been such a big inspiration throughout my childhood. It’s belongs to my Dad.

When I was younger and on walks with my parents my Dad would always point out trees, plants, animals etc. (And he still does!) Always get quizzed as to whether I know what things are.
