For All the Times Before
Tumblr media
Main Masterlist Lando Masterlist
Pairing: driver!female reader(no mention of y/n) x Lando Norris
Warnings: Fluffyish, Severe Injury, Probably incorrect use of Medical Terms
Summary: She drives with her big brother. Who would've thought Red Bull would have a woman driver; well, maybe it's because she's related to Max Verstappen. Or maybe she's just that good.
Requested: NO / yes
A/N: I did have to take a few creative liberties about the rest of the season.
Tumblr media
One can only do so much when being compared to another, especially a sibling, but you prove them wrong at every step. Every single step, you prove you deserve to be racing, that you deserve your seat in Red Bull.
You show you deserve where you got to on your own, no help needed from your father or your big brother, all on you, not a single mistake made by you.
It's proven even more when you pass your brother for points in the race to win the 2024 World Championship, but that's not planned is the total disaster the Las Vegas Grand Prix turns out to be.
It started with the mishaps that happened during free practice on Friday, then the mechanical problems from qualifying on Saturday. Now, even though she made it through and started P2, she was still in the front row behind Oscar in P1 with Lando in P3 and her brother following with both Ferraris after that.
It was going swimmingly, the problems were fixed, and the only obstacle left was finishing in points position in this Grand Prix.
For the first few laps, everything was fine; it was a great race start, which allowed her to overtake Oscar for P1 by turn 1, with Oscar falling to P3 after being overtaken by Lando before lap 1 was over.
By the end of lap 2, you still had P1, but Oscar had fallen behind Max and Carlos for P5, having to hold off Charles for the position.
From lap 3 to lap 28, the places had changed, gaps stayed the same, and there were virtually no position changes from places of point position.
On lap 28, a safety car was deployed out because the cars of Ocon, Riccardo, and Magnussen bumped each other, sending each other into the wall of the race. It wasn't so terrible that they had to stop and restart the race, as everything was able to be moved out of the way and to the pit lanes after just two laps.
Laps 29 - 33 were everyone just getting back on track with the race.
With lap 34, the gaps that had been shortened had expanded exponentially, essentially giving the first five places the ability for a free pit.
Going into lap 35, those huge gaps shorted.
36 - 42 were rather uneventful in terms of what usually happens toward the end with place fighting, everyone stayed in their places, and gaps stayed relatively similar.
In lap 43, Lando tried overtaking multiple times but was forced to back off as Max approached from behind, trying to overtake Lando when he wasn't trying to overtake you.
Onto lap 44, you saw a significant gap gained between you two, almost 12 seconds of a gap, but just as you had been watching Lando, you had been watching Bottas.
It was in lap 45 that it started to go shit Bottas was in the middle of trying to overtake Sargent when they both got the blue flag, and both tried to move over, resulting in a slight accident as you passed, no real damage to your car.
Then lap 46, that gap to Lando stayed in around 12 seconds, but you made it all the way back up to the drivers in 8th, 9th, and 10th place, Gasly, Hulkenburg, and Stroll.
Nothing seemed wrong at first.
Stroll was in 10th. He got the blue flag first, and Hulkenberg was able to pull ahead of him. When he got the blue flag, he wasn't able to pull to the side after he slowed because Stroll was in the way of the rear of his car.
When he tried to pull ahead to get over, Gasly was in the way, having also gotten a blue flag.
You tried to pass as Hulkenberg had to serve to move into the middle of the track to miss hitting the other two drivers, but his front tire got caught in your rear wheel, and you spun out, hitting the wall and not being able to get back in the race.
The rest of the grid was given a red flag just after it happened, and it was seen you were not able to move your car and you weren't responding.
Lando had driven past you, not knowing if you had responded, just hoping you were okay as he made his way to the pit.
But when he pitted and was told you hadn't responded, he was almost able to get back in his car and on the track before he was stopped by his engineer.
So, not able to do much more, he went over to Red Bull, who allowed the exception, knowing how important you are to Lando and Lando is to you.
"Please respond," Lando pleaded to himself as he was given some headphones.
"Ow," was the first that came through your side of the radio.
"Can you get out on your own?" Your race engineer asked.
"No, my leg is stuck, and everything hurts. I want Lando," You say over the radio. It isn't rare that you want your boyfriend after a race or when you get sick or hurt, being extra clingy.
"He'll meet you at med-bay. The med-car is on its way, almost to you, Angel," Your engineer said, using the nickname you'd been given by the entire grid.
Tumblr media
You had gone to the med-bay only to be there until the ambulance came.
It was when Lando was allowed in that you learned that the last few laps of the race had been canceled and the places that were last gotten in lap 44 were where people ended, and points were given though the FIA and Formula One were reviewing the causes of the accident and other things that had happened during the race, as usual.
You had been brought to the hospital, and Lando had ridden with you, both per and against your request, wanting your boyfriend and also wanting him to stay and be able to change before having to go in.
When you arrived at the hospital, you were taken for tests, and Lando was to stay in the waiting room as other drivers had arrived at the hospital.
You had been brought back to a room and both your brother and Lando had met you there.
"She's a little out of it, but a doctor will be in shortly. She should be good by then." The nurse said as she went to walk out of the room.
Both men nod, and Lando sits on the side of your bed as Max stands at the foot and looks over his sister, though he knows that he can't see the internal injuries you may have.
Around an hour later, you had woken from the drug-induced sleep and were not so woozy when the doctor came in.
"Hello, Ms. Verstappen, I am Dr. Kruz, and I looked over your tests. You have a linear fracture to your left tibia and a transverse fracture to your left fibula, with minute fractures to a couple of your ankle bones, a couple of small chips, and a fracture to your outermost metatarsal, again on the left side. You also seem to have minimal internal bleeding in your abdomen and a few rib cracks on your left side, with a few bone bruises throughout your ribcage. There are also a few cracks along your left arm that should be fine within a few weeks. I'm sorry to say that you might not be able to finish the season, but I am also not your primary doctor to know enough about how you heal." The doctor tells her.
"I just want to be able to race in that Abu Dhabi in about a month," You tell her; it's one of your favorite tracks, and you'd rather race it to win than miss it.
The doctor gives her a small sad smile before she also leaves to allow the information to sink in.
"You will still probably win the championship; you have points ahead of everyone; it's two races. There aren't enough points to be given out," Lando tries to comfort her.
"I know, but I still want to earn that title, to prove to everyone and myself that it doesn't need to be handed to me," You say to your boyfriend.
Tumblr media
It's safe to say that you pushed your recovery more than your trainer, engineer, and doctor would like, but you were back in that car under two weeks later, having appealed to your doctor about the break you would be taking in between seasons.
He reluctantly agreed, having only the major breaks in your left leg and foot to be careful about, and the internal bleeding was relatively better, and you, the primary one you went to in Monaco, came with you to Abu Dhabi.
The team also added some more support to your car and some little monitors for your heart rate and everything else medical, and your doctor stood in the paddock watching over your vitals as you raced, starting P4 behind Lando, Max, and Charles, after a mishap in qualifying.
All gave you a fair race, but you were still able to pull away in first place in the last five laps of the race as you felt pain starting in your leg; you just took a couple deep breaths to calm down, focusing down on the task at hand.
You were so focused on just getting it done you didn't realize that you had just crossed the finish line with a checkered flag signaling the end of the race and your win.
"You did it, Angel. You are a world champion," Your race engineer said over the radio.
You breathe a sigh of relief and just sit on the side of the circuit just before turn 5.
"Do you cool down lap and get to pit," Your engineer says as you pull in the circuit as you do your lap.
You finish the lap and just wait in the car as it's a little difficult to move still, and you lift the visor of your helmet and wipe the tears from your eyes.
Lando and Max come over to your car and help you out, helping you balance on the top of your car with one leg and throw your arms in the air in victory.
YOu get your helmet off and kiss Lando's helmet as he and Max help you away from the circuit and to the way in then to interviews.
Tumblr media
A/N: Yes, I did one of these on my own with a reader, not an oc; it felt right. But which do you prefer? I'm done for the night; tomorrow, the first part of my Lando series will be out.

Steven dressed up as Angel Dust. He took some creative liberties for the cosplay.
I was inspired by the fact that Steven and Angel Dust share the same voice actor in Italian!!! His name is Riccardo Suarez and he's amazing and he performs amazingly in both of his roles!

what the fuck is the point of having rules if mot to implement them?? norris clearly brake checked charles it was a dangerous fucking move.
fucking bernie ecclestone wouldnt manufacture a title fight (or at least not this obviously) HOW am i saying f1 was better run under that sexist wanker.
if the fia/fom/liberty/ben sulyamen didnt want people saying the title fight was manufactured, they shouldn’t’ve taken away the fastest lap point for next year RIGHT after riccardo took it last race. they shouldn’t be letting norris drive as dangerously as he fucking wants without punishing him for it, and they shouldn’t have taken goddamn MONTHS to ban the mini-drs wing. a bunch of fucking useless twits, they are a cabale of penny-pinching wankers who should be punted off to fucking mars. go hang your lust for money there smoug-wannabies i hate your fucking guts.
Yeah it's so obvious what they are trying to do. And the funny part is that it's not even working. Mclaren and their drivers have not been able to close that gap to Max, and lets be honest most fans care about the WDC, it's usually the hard core fans that care about the WCC.
Like they just admitted they are letting Mclaren get away with cheating. All to try to manufacture the saddest title fight in recent memory.

Hail, noble Hearts Club.
Hail, valiant defenders of their sworn domain. Hail, warrior minstrels, may your fame be eternal.
I introduce myself to you as Newt, of the Line of Yorak. A childe of Tzimisce's Ancient Clan. Metal-shaper, flesh-crafter, world-walker. Many are my years on this world, many are my friends, but always the Dragon in me hungers for more.
So that you know i am true-hearted, than this is no dark ruse , i speak to you of my friendship with the Sire of Santino. T'is She whom i had send this letter, as i knew not where you haven, and did not think it polite to ask before we had yet met.
T'was many years past, on the summer-scented Isle of Gibraltar when first i met Luciana, finest product of Giovanni blood. Under sweet moons we made our acquaintance, and over sweet letters did we continue it. But my aged head did grow weary of the world, and my aged blood grew thick, and a great sleep came upon me. Although my correspondence was ended, my fondness for that Belledame did not. And, great fortune!, neither did hers for me. We have rekindled our friendship, and now i seek to spark new one friendships in her decedents, and their beloveds.
Payment i offer, for my bold intrusion upon you valued time. Sweet morsels to whet your appetite for our coming friendship.
Greetings to bold Santino; well-favoured Childe of Luciana, cunning inheritor of the legacy of Riccardo (my solemn commiserations to you on his loss), world feted songster.
For you: a Chelys i grew myself. As Golden Apollo was gifted by Hermes, and so good feeling was kindled between them, the same i hope for us.
Greetings to sweet Chez; gentle childe of Malkav's clan, white-armed welcomer, sweet-eyed quester.
For you: three Beefalo. The gift of sustenance, to one who's pale brow creases with worry for the Kine. May the warmth of their blood echo in our friendship.
Greeting to wild Beetlejuice; fierce Scholar, fierce Lover ...
i am sorry to break the flow here, but i'm having a little trouble with your Clan. i thought you a Brujah by temperament, but then the term "Duskborn" was bandied about. Is that simply a new name for an old clan? Or is it a term for what i would call a Paharnic - and i have seen referred to in current parlance as a Ghoul ? There's been mention of a Prince you are beholden to (obviously My Greetings to them as well) are they your Domitor? Or your Sire? Please excuse the ignorance of this Old Wyrm and except my gift to you in the spirit of learning and understanding.
For you: these Bear Claws. You seem something of a bearcat, my dear, if you'll pardon my wild language! And after you recent battle, i thought you might appreciate them.
Anyway, i have taken the liberty of "following" you all on Tumblr.com. Hope to hear from you soon. :)

PHANTOM VENICE
Opening today:
Tumblr media
A Haunting in Venice--Kenneth Branagh returns as Hercule Poirot in this gothic, which he also directed. It's 1947 here, and the vain, dapper sleuth with the elaborate mustache has retired from detective work in gradually reviving postwar Venice. He's pulled back into the game by his old acquaintance, mystery novelist Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey), who asks him to debunk, if he can, a supposed clairvoyant (Michelle Yeoh) at a seance after a Halloween party in a beautiful but decaying palazzo.
The seance is intended to conjure the ghost of the daughter of the opera singer hostess (Kelly Reilly), drowned the previous year, but the palazzo has a sinister history beyond this; it's supposedly cursed and haunted. The nonbelieving Poirot naturally is buying none of it, but his skepticism is rattled by the unsettling events of the evening, which include an attempt on his own life.
This is Branagh's third lavish outing as Agatha Christie's elegant gumshoe, after Murder on the Orient Express in 2017 and Death on the Nile in 2022, all three of them scripted by Michael Green. Though Green borrows a few memorable elements from Christie's unusually nasty 1969 novel Hallowe'en Party, Haunting is essentially an original tale; in his amusing preface to the tie-in paperback re-issue of Hallowe'en Party (published under the movie's title), Green preemptively braces himself for the lambasting he's expecting from the hardcore Christie faithful for the movie's liberties.
I've been a Christie reader since high school, and can only say that much as I enjoy her work, I certainly don't regard it as sacred and inviolate. So Green and Branagh's alterations--made with the blessing of the Christie estate--bothered me not in the least. These include changing Ariadne Oliver, Christie's apple-addicted semi-autobiographical alter ego, into an American as a showcase role for Fey, who's a nervy, mischievous hoot and a fine foil for Branagh's sober Poirot. At one point she lets out a scream that could make Fay Wray proud, too.
The rest of the cast--including Reilly, Jamie Dornan,  Riccardo Scamarcio, Camille Cottin, Emma Laird, Ali Khan and Jude Hill, the kid from Branagh's Belfast--all commit to their skulking and lurking and exchanging of pregnant glances, and Yeoh really lets it rip as the medium. The sumptuous, shadowy palazzo setting, designed by John Paul Kelley and shot by Haris Zambarloukos, is properly both beautiful and claustrophobically oppressive.
I'm generally very dense at whodunits, but about three-quarters of the way through A Haunting in Venice, I correctly guessed who the culprit was. Still, there were still plenty of cunning revelations in the story I didn't see coming. I don't think the mystery is as central to this picture, anyway, as the woozy, nightmarish atmosphere. In many ways this film seems to owe less to Christie than to Don't Look Now, Nicolas Roeg's great Venetian fever dream of 1973.
Despite the sly, enjoyable old dark house trappings, Branagh and Green decline to tip the material into overt camp. Green's literate dialogue--there's even a quick throwaway cribbing from Love's Labor's Lost--allows Branagh to deepen Poirot's response to the situation into a faith-versus-reason internal conflict, without letting the movie slide the other way into pretentiousness. I found Branagh's performance moving; he presents a convincing long dark night of the soul.

hello and welcome to the final results of the tournament! we've had over 920 votes in the last round and all categories were pretty close, i think! now it's time to reveal the results and what better way to start than to honour the contestants that might have not made it to the final round, but were still influent enough to warrant some crying when they got eliminated. let's check out the first category right after the cut!
Tumblr media
the trailblazers of f1 are not only a source of inspiration with their determination and sheer will, but also a sweet refreshment to the women loving portion of the fandom. these ladies were spread out thinly through the decades, from 1958 to 2014, but they have left a mark enough to be here today. here are your nominees:
Susie Wolff [sole exception to the no test drivers rule] Maria Teresa de Filippis  Lella Lombardi  Divina Galica Desiré Wilson Giovanna Amati
unfortunately, only one of them can win! and with 70,4 % of votes, Formula One's Best Girl is...
Tumblr media
Susie Wolff! no one is immune to the latex dress power after all.
Tumblr media
our next category is devoted to the hay-as-safety-barriers old as balls portion of formula 1. these are some of the stars that braved through the circuits between the 50s and the 70s and have managed to make a name of themselves, either by their talent or, most importantly, by their good looks, which is what we're trying to assess here today. our nominees for hottest classic driver are:
Jacky Ickx Jim Clark James Hunt  François Cevert  Jody Scheckter  Dan Gurney
and... with 33,2 % of votes, Formula One's Hottest Classic Driver is...
Tumblr media
Jacky Ickx! with a bone structure like that he made everyone wish they could speak a little french.... je porte lunettes de soleil...... oui oui baguette.....
Tumblr media
this is perhaps the funniest category that someone suggested (@howdysebby, to be more precise) and the reason why i split the categories between "eras" of f1 instead of decades. in here, we're supposed to honour the brave men who refused to drive and spent a night barricaded together in a room, sharing mattresses For The Sake Of The Sport (it was for a good reason, but you have to admit the intricate rituals of it all anyway). while we can't have ALL of the strikers here - even because some of these wouldn't get even a vote - here are the fittest amongst them, as your nominees:
Elio de Angelis Niki Lauda René Arnoux Alain Prost Didier Pironi Andrea de Cesaris Riccardo Patrese
time to check the results! with 28,4 % of votes, your Formula One's Hottest Striker is...
Tumblr media
Alain Prost! as much as Alain and Elio were close, this could only go to the brain behind the operation.
Tumblr media
our next category is about The Cinnamon Apples of F1 for many of us who started watching F1 during the period between the late 90s and the early 00s. their driving on track was tight, their levels of empathy for other human beings was tighter and their abs were the tightest of them all. here are your nominees:
Michael Schumacher Damon Hill Mika Häkkinen Jacques Villeneuve Fernando Alonso Mark Webber Giancarlo Fisichella Eddie Irvine
(looking at this list idk why i forgot to add kimi in it oop)
with a grand total of 32,6 % votes, the Hottest Y2K Driver of Formula One is...
Tumblr media
Michael Schumacher!!!! Because nothing screams "hot" the same way that "7 championships" and "war crimes" does! (photo is an homage to my mom who usually said he is a "shrimp" - you have to rip the head off and eat the rest)
Tumblr media
we got to our current times. this is the mid 2010s, mostly Drive to Survive generation of drivers we currently have. with a few exceptions, they mostly have at their hands a plethora of social media profiles where they make continuous efforts to advertise themselves as Figures of The Sport, which includes, of course, the occasional cheeky thirst trap. the nominees for hottest liberty media driver are:
Daniel Ricciardo Jules Bianchi Antonio Giovinazzi Carlos Sainz Jr Nico Hulkenberg Jaime Alguesuari Pierre Gasly Esteban Ocon Lance Stroll
with 37 % of votes, Formula One's Hottest Liberty Media Driver is...
Tumblr media
Jules Bianchi! he should have definitely been able to take more advantage of the era we're in, and he will never be forgotten <3
Tumblr media
well, right now it's the time to give a little shout out to the guys that we didn't remember to add to the qualifying roster. they weren't there when it mattered, and when it didn't matter anymore, people were like "why isn't Guy here?". even though i warned a few times i was still taking nominations. oh well. here are your nominees:
Stoffel Vandoorne Max Verstappen George Russell Christian Fittipaldi
ok, to be fair i'm pretty sure someone nominated stoff and i forgot him. he's ok, he won the FE title this weekend anyway, he won't mind it. i would also like to take this moment to publicly apologise to valtteri bottas who i have been thirsty for since last year, yet somehow i forgot to add him both to the main tournament and to this category. i'm so sorry valtteri i'm still a big fan of your butt!!!!!
ok, time for the results. with 39,5 % of votes, Formula One's Hottest Forgotten Driver is...
Tumblr media
George Russell! his allergy to upper body clothing came in clutch for this one!
Tumblr media
this category is very dear to me because i never met my father. these drivers in particular have acquired a reputation amongst the fandom as Dads We'd All Like To Fuck, if that's your thing. here are your nominees:
Nigel Mansell Gilles Villeneuve Graham Hill Keke Rosberg Stirling Moss
with 42 % of votes, Formula One's Hottest Dilf just has to be...
Tumblr media
Nigel Mansell! Il Leone strikes again with the dad bod and the moustache that makes anyone say "daddy? sorry. daddy? sorr-"
Tumblr media
the same way there is a market for dilfs, there has to be a market for twinks! they made their mark in the Hot Drivers Market of formula 1 thanks to their wrinkle free looks and relative lack of testosterone. while some of them have since grown into their man looks, we still fondly remember their twink era. perhaps a second way of looking at this category would be "Best Gender", but then again some drivers would be missing. here are your nominees:
Nico Rosberg Mick Schumacher Yuki Tsunoda Zhou Guanyu Lando Norris
alright, let's go! with 34,1 % Formula One's Hottest Twink is:
Tumblr media
Mick Schumacher! I think many of us fell deep into his blue eyes....
Tumblr media
it's time to highlight the electric hotties of Formula One history. they came to f1 and they flopped, even if we don't want to admit it. however, as we all know, one of the hottest attributes in any person is their ability to persevere and these guys weren't afraid of challenging themselves in formula e. as a reward, they reinvented their careers, looking pretty hot while doing so. let's take a look at our nominees:
Jean Eric Vergne Andre Lotterer Jerome D'Ambrosio Pascal Werhlein Lucas di Grassi
with 44,2 % of votes, our Hottest Formula E Driver is...
Tumblr media
JEV! It's not a scandal to anyone that this would go to the only 2-time champion of FE.
Tumblr media
at last, to wrap the hall of fame, we have a bonus category. this was supposed to be optional on the tournament poll, so i'm VERY sorry to those who didn't want to vote for it and had to, i forgot to unmark the "obligatory" box since it was late when i made the form. this is a Senna specific category only because so many of you misunderstood the open box question and recommended it as a category instead of your "Hottest Classic Driver" nomination hahaha! so, just for banter, here are your nominees:
Twink Toleman Senna Lotus Senna McLaren Marlboro Senna W*lliams Senna
let's go! with 58,3 % of votes, the Hottest Senna is...
Tumblr media
McLaren Marlboro Senna! world championships and team rivalries are very hot indeed.
well, this marks the end of our Hall of Fame categories! thank you for participating so far, stay tuned for our podium tomorrow!

human luxury / aesthetic & headcanon
summary: dubbed ‘human luxury’ by fans and non-fans, minjung’s been involved in a string of brand deals with various luxury brands — starting off with burberry, transitioning into chanel only to fall at the house of dior. this leads some of the general public, whom may or may not be interested in idol-dom / equinox to see minjung as someone who’s correlated with luxury brand names exuding the classical feel that luxury brands hold and the prestige that comes with the ‘you can’t sit with us’ aura. (headcanon on the journey to get to the nickname) warnings: none wc: 804
minjung’s had three major luxury deals in the course of her career — each one with a different ‘family’ group. burberry lines with burberry family group, chanel with their own, and dior under the LVMH household name.
her first venture was when burberry reached out to gold star, and asked if they could use minjung as a brand ambassador. considering that burberry is a mid-tier luxury group, moderately priced for their goods and with the rising success of equinox after their hit red flavor, it seemed like a good match at the time.
minjung prior to red flavor was more in the background of equinox, but it was really this title track that blew up her popularity, and started her own mini-little fan base of solo stans. it was enough to get the attention of burberry.
burberry at the time was in their own transitory period, changing from the old general stylings to the newer and fresher street designs via riccardo tisci’s rejuvenation of the brand. however, it’s not like minjung really had a say when gold star said ‘oh yes.’ and signed on behalf of her.
this brand partnership didn’t last long as minjung really didn’t like the brand. it was a start to the ‘modeling’ avenue, but still wasn’t something she personally wanted long term especailly because the street wear direction with logo play / new pattern play of burberry didn’t correlate with her own style. (plus, she got caught one too many times in private not wearing burberry and opting for something else).
however, just by luck, it turns out that chanel reached out to gold star because they saw what income she brought burberry with her looks. obviously, chanel is a few steps above burberry in terms of luxury brand ranking, and gold star was okay with this switch to the new deal basically dropping burberry for chanel on behalf of minjung — she had no say during this time.
the reasoning chanel wanted was the timeless essence and her resting bitch face was enough to give that sort of privileged child, the upper-class pretentiousness vibe that the brand wanted. this in turn with the popularity of the post-rainbow dress stylings gave the right timing of the brand placement. minjung didn’t mind this brand deal — especially because her preferred bag at the time was dior’s saddle bag or the classic chanel boy bag.
the partnership was a whole year, in which she got to wear a lot of chanel designs. the issue she found with chanel was that because the brand has a highly specific brand identity, there was specificities on how she should style things or how she had to present herself. ironically, it was stripping creative freedom from her and she was more on watch by gold star of what she wore even when she wasn’t on equinox’s duties.
she got a lot of free clothes out of it as well as the new bags. however, she personally didn’t want to resign because of the creative liberties that were no longer present when working with chanel — however, fans really pick this brand deal to work well with her, and favored this pairing out of all her brand deals.
another side issue at the time was that minjung’s own artworks posted on her instagram wasn’t really ‘chanel’ appropriate, which led to some slap on the wrist. hence, why the brand deal didn’t end in a resign and rather just faded away.
all in all, chanel a+ but just didn’t cut it especially when there was no innovation to chanel’s design. they always play with the same tweed / patterns, only ever experimenting whenever it comes to their shoes.
but you know who did like her artworks? dior did. hence, when she got herself in hot waters with a few sns art postings, dior reached out and asked gold star to sign minjung again — her third luxury brand deal. at this point, it covered up a lot of the public hate as the public learned to like her looks now, and really thought that she just had a certain vibe / aura to her that exuded the ‘luxury’ moniker.
dior beauty signed her first, and slowly transitioned over to fashion as well. dior gives her more reigns in terms of styling / fashion, which minjung appreciates. they’ve stuck with her through all her solo endeavors, and for now — she’s happy inside the house of dior. obviously, there’s a connection to the LVMH family too, which makes her seem like she’s not only limited to one brand.
this brand deal has gone on for almost a year, and at this point — she’s having fun with it, taking it day by day.
tldr; she’s been spotted sporting one too many luxury brands, and hence why the public just associates luxury names to minjung’s own.

04/10/2020 - 11/10/2020 #Kepler-452

#1yrago DMZ: graphic novel, a worthy successor to Transmetropolitan
Tumblr media
Once in a long while, a new comic book series comes along that just kicks the hell out of you, melding words and pictures in a way that is impossible in any other medium, telling a story that you can't put down, one that changes the way you see the world.
I've just finished the first two collections from Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli's DMZ, and its really, really goddamned great.
DMZ is set in a near-future America torn apart by a new civil war. The "Free State" army is a band of redneck insurgents, sick of an America in decline, who've brought Iraq-style asymmetric warfare to the streets of America. Starting in small towns and sweeping across the country, they are fought to a standstill in Manhattan, the DMZ, where they face off against the US military.
Matty Roth is a kid journalist in Manhattan, the sole survivor of an abortive attempt to drop a Geraldo-like journalist into the DMZ to get the "real story" for Liberty, a politicized TV network with the ethics of Rupert Murdoch's FOX. Matty is the intern, but he's got the gear, and the guts, and he sets about telling the stories of a Manhattan under siege, where all the rich people have gotten out, leaving the poor behind for target practice by both armies.
DMZ has the guts and verve of Transmetropolitan, and a similar structure, too -- episodic slice-of-life views into a city in glorious, self-devouring ruin, shot through with an overarching plot about the fight of average people and brave journalists to expose official corruption.
The storylines are each vivid and rapid-fire, so that you can't stop reading (if I'd had a stack of these, I would have skipped sleeping and just read all night). Like Y: The Last Man and Fables, DMZ is a new kind of comic, something born from Frank Miller classics like Martha Washington, but way more evolved, ebola to Millers' flu-bug.
The supporting art is even better. There are more grace-notes that hint at a fleshed out world beyond the claustrophobic DMZ, little visual cues that make the whole thing seem completely real, totally immersive.
This was another find from the recommended table at Secret Headquarters, my favorite comic shop, and they just keep steering me right. If you're in LA, they're the best place to go get your brain inverted.

My favorite podcast of 2019
For a more balanced 2019 podcast recommendations I suggest you read this wonderful list put together by my colleagues. Mine has nothing to do with objectivity, popularity among a general audience or educational value.
And it goes to F1: Beyond the Grid.
You only get to know the true power of Formula One, by which I mean Liberty Media, in 2019 by looking at the names of the guests on this podcast. From the legends, Mika Hakkinen, Jensen Button, Damon Hill, to the current team directors Guenther Steiner, Cyril Abiteboul, to the current drivers Daniel Riccardo, Valtteri Bottas (another proof Mercedes has better media policy than Ferrari...), Alex Albon, and Kimi (glad he’s no longer at Ferrari :S), to Max’s dad Jos Verstappen and Bernie Ecclestone. Oh My. If Michael Schumacher could talk, he’d have a good chance being invited to the podcast.
Which media gets access like this? Who would ever talk publicly about their whole career, reveal career highs and lows, personal favorites and enemies, for an hour? The podcast is a treat for real fans.
My memories of the podcast was intertwined with my year of long distance running. The hours and hours of conversations filled me with joy and knowledge that made me feel more intimate to the sport.
I ran uphill at Prospect Park--the last mile--in a deep sadness listening Alex Albon talking about the death of Anthoine. I looked over the lake when he brought up the wonderful years Max, Charles, Pierre and he competed and grew together.
I ran right past the Grand Army Plaza into the park when Valtteri mentioned that he couldn’t always bring his dog to race with him--I had never thought about the situation for a driver with a dog! With Lewis’s huge presence, I sometimes forgot that he was competitive from a young age, that he decided to eat porridge everyday so he could grow tall enough to qualify for a karting race.
I just passed the first mile in the Central Park loop with the smell of fresh horse shit in the air when Jos attributed part of Max’s success and maturity to his short, sometimes naive yet exciting career. He was fast! “My career was meant to bring success to Max today. [paraphrasing]” I got to the 4th mile when Cryil said that he saw the sport as tech companies competing every other week on a race track. I was fascinated by it. I ran along the Brooklyn piers when the host Tom Clarkson mentioned readers’ warm feedback to the episode by Damon Hill. I nodded in silence. I was so moved by Sergio Perez’s watches (that he buys a new watch for a special event in his life) that it changed my impression of him from watching races and post-race TV interviews. It also happened, just once, that I really didn’t like the guest. It was a day when I ran on treadmill. I was disgusted by Bernie Ecclestone’s dodged answer on the importance of making money in his career. It doesn’t take away the fact that it was an insightful episode.
The generally opaque nature of the sport might also be the reason that a podcast like this could ever exist. It serves the organization and the sport. The host was friendly to the drivers and the teams. Though he tried to dig as many as he could the interesting anecdotes and individual opinions of the sport, it remained uncritical. It doesn’t get to the business side of the sport, the gender inequality, the environmental impact, the cultures of the teams at all. In a way it’s propaganda. I don’t hate it.
